Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- What a relief to hear Barack Obama tell a California audience the other day: "I am the president of the United States of America."

Who knew?!

Lately, it's been hard to tell whether Obama himself knows that he is the leader of the country formerly known as The Most Powerful Nation on Earth. Obama's self-identification centered around the American International Group's bonus problem, which, Obama reminded us, he did not create, but ... "the buck stops here."

That cliche is awfully busy these days.

Most presidents doubtless have to pinch themselves for a while after arriving at the White House. The campaign over, Mr. President suddenly realizes that he is, in fact, in charge. The successful courtship ultimately leads to marriage and reality pitches a tent where hope once crooned the night away.

Giving the man his length of slack, Obama has had more reality than most. As he has said more than once, he'd be delighted to have just one crisis or just one war to deal with, but he's got a couple of each. Still, one can't help wishing Obama would pinch himself a little harder and get on with it.

The White House mess, to steal a title from a Christopher Buckley book, sure is. Who's in charge over there?

"I think they're drinking water from a fire hose even more than we were," a Bush White House official said to me a few days ago. "I actually feel sorry for them."

That fire hose apparently is tapped into the Dasani Aquifer. The plugging-leaks-in-the-dike metaphor is no longer adequate to the titanic episode now engulfing the nation's capital.

Despite civic rage and political blame -- even death threats aimed at business executives -- there is a carnival air of unseriousness and grotesquery loose upon the land. Life has become one grand, comic burlesque, a vaudevillian game show where plumbers are journalists, war heroes twitter, and the president hits the late-night circuit in the midst of crisis.

Obama's appearance on Jay Leno's show Thursday night -- joking lamely that his bowling is "like Special Olympics or something" -- is symptomatic of a broader blending of the serious and the comic that makes sane people feel slightly displaced. Infotainment isn't a new topic, but the lines are becoming increasingly blurred. Tragicomedy, in which gods and men reverse roles, may be an honored dramatic genre, but is this any way to live?

Although Obama is the first sitting president to appear on "The Tonight Show," his presence is historically significant only if you believe that Jon Stewart is Edward R.Murrow and Rush Limbaugh is William F. Buckley.

I don't begrudge Stewart his artful takedown of CNBC's Jim Cramer, or his role in keeping audiences abreast of the news with humor. We need that. And a financial guru whose program has more bells and whistles than FAO Schwarz at Christmastime -- and treats audiences like kindergartners at a Dow Jones Camp -- is surely fair game. Leave it to the comedian to point out to the former hedge fund manager that the financial market "is not a ... game!"

At least we're entertained as we try not to notice that no one's in charge.

Except, of course, for Fox TV's Glenn Beck, who is now channeling televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, choking back tears on his Friday the 13th special -- "We Surround Them, You Are Not Alone." On his Web site, Beck asks: "Mob rule in Washington?" while he hawks T-shirts with pithy slogans such as "Hate U" and "Torches and Pitchforks."

Whose mob goes there?

Yes, we're all angry, especially at the AIG culprits who keep paying themselves bonuses with our money. That the payouts caught Obama by surprise does not bode well for confidence in his leadership, especially when, as Time reports, Treasury Department staff knew of the bonuses as early as Feb. 28, and Secretary Tim Geithner knew at least two days before word reached the president. Even so, a little bit of outrage goes a long way, and those who crank out emotional pleas for populist retribution should beware what they hype. Mobs eventually want a prize for their trouble, and gladiators are in short supply.

With the stage so crowded with actors, meanwhile, Obama may want to focus on the role for which he was elected, lest Beck's question become an assertion. Repeat: "I am the president of the United States of America."

Glenn Beck
Kathleen,

Glenn Beck has been the only one who has given hope to Americans in this political mess since SARAH PALEN.

WELCOME TO THE IDIOCRACY
not much left to say here

rowdy boots

Kathleen
A little late to the party aren't you? 46% of us had our eyes open before this radical leftest was elected. And by the way, when it comes to political analysis, you wouldn't make a wort on Rush's or Glen's posterior.

What Are You Talking About, KP?

"Our Founding Father"?

Have you LOST your FREAKING mind? Barack Mugabe is NOT our FOUNDING FATHER. Although at the rate he is spending money, curtailing our freedoms, and trying to micromanage every aspect of American life, he may be the Founding Father of the United Socialist States of Zimbabwe.

Do not insult our Founding Fathers by calling Obama one when he detests the "negative rights" of the Constitution that they labored to give us and which have served us so well for over 225 years.

Totally disgusting.

And another thing Kathleen
If you're feeling "let down" by your president, just remember, if you and your cino colleagues had displayed some journalistic courage, this idiot would not be president.

AIG?
Why are people more upset with the millions that AIG misspent than they are with the TRILLIONS that our elected "leaders" in DC misspend?

Good questions Denise
What exactly is the title of this column supposed to mean?

Wobbie, Take A Look At This - I
"Geithner Is A Gigantic Fool" - I

Australia's Keating: Geithner is a Gigantic Fool

A fierce piece on Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has come out of Australia. It places pretty much the entire current world meltdown on the shoulders of Geithner.

It begins with an attack on Geithner's handling a decade ago of the Asian Crisis. Geithner was then at the Treasury and stick handled the Indonesia bailout plan.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald's Peter Hartcher:

...in a speech to a closed gathering at the Lowy Institute in Sydney on Thursday, [former Australian Prime Minister]Paul Keating gave a stark...account of Geithner's record in handling the Asian crisis: "Tim Geithner was the Treasury line officer who wrote the IMF [International Monetary Fund] program for Indonesia in 1997-98, which was to apply current account solutions to a capital account crisis."

In other words, Geithner fundamentally misdiagnosed the problem. And his misdiagnosis led to a dreadfully wrong prescription.
According to this scenario, Geithner so mishandled the Indonesia problem that it spooked other Asian countries to never be caught short and thus dependent on the U.S. or the IMF.

Keating continued:

Soeharto's government delivered 21 years of 7 per cent compound growth. It takes a gigantic fool [Geithenr] to mess that up. But the IMF messed it up. The end result was the biggest fall in GDP in the 20th century. That dubious distinction went to Indonesia. And, of course, Soeharto lost power.

This Keating argues is behind China's massive accumulation of Treasury securities. This accumulation, Keating says, lead to China to finance and fuel much of the the artificial boom in the U.S. that is now collapsing.

Can you provide some evidence that Obama is getting hold of the reigns of power?

What are your thoughts on Obama's budget proposal?

Another good question:
Why do we continue to read Kathleen Parker's columns?

Wobbie, Take A Look At This - II

Hartcher writes:

China, in particular, drew hard conclusions from the IMF's mishandling of the Asian crisis. It decided that it would never allow itself to be dependent on the IMF, or the US, or the West generally, for its international solvency. Instead, it would build the biggest war chest the world had ever seen.

With Keating adding:

This has all been noted inside the State Council of China and by the Politburo. And it's one of the reasons, perhaps the principal reason, why convertibility of the renminbi remains off the agenda for China, and it's why through a series of exchange-rate interventions each day that they've built these massive reserves.

Reserves are so large at $US2 trillion as to equal $US2000 for every Chinese person, and when your consider that the average income of Chinese people is $US4000 to $US5000, it's 50 per cent of their annual income. It's a huge thing for a developing country to not spend its wealth on its own development.

The bottom line fundamental cause of the current crisis (and Keating notes this) was the money printing of Alan Greenspan during his tenure at the Fed. That said, it has always been a curious fact as to why China would amass such a huge Treasury portfolio. Without China's huge Treasury accumulation which supported the dollar and prevented it from collapse, it is likely Greenspan's money printing gig would have ended much sooner, with much less structural damage.

The general belief has been that China has propped up the dollar to support its exports, and this most certainly is a very important consideration of the Chinese government. Yet, the Keating thesis has a ring of plausibility to it, and may be a second key reason why the Chinese have been willing to accumulate such a huge Treasury securities position.

I have not earthly idea what KP is babbling about now. The woman is a total twit.

Speaking of babbling, do you have any idea as to why IQ-29 is "agreeing with Paul Krugman"? He and I were discussing him hours ago on another thread. Further, his claim about Obama starting to take the reins is laughable. The man will not rid of this TOXIC PRIEST at Treasury. He has ZERO respect in the world from his days at the IMF; yet, Mugabe will not get rid of him.

All Mugabe would have to do is to put on the mantle of Henry II and uttered to infamous words, "Are you all cowards, who will rid me of this troublesome priest?", and a line of would-be knaves would form. What was the name of that park where Vince Foster's body was found?

You Don't Say, Wobbie???

Yes, Robert Mugabe is the President of Zimbabwe. He came to power and REDISTRIBUTED the wealth and property of the "plantation owners". He was a prolifigate spender. And, he so debaunched the currency that it collapsed and caused hyperinflation.

Barack Mugabe is following in his footsteps.

BTW, the Brits call him Mugabe and Michelle is Lady Macbeth.

And, I will call him whatever I want, but I will not refer to him as POTUS.

Wobbie, Mugabe Is Not A Founding Father

Teddy Roosevelt was not a Founding Father.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was not a Founding Father.

Ronald Wilson Reagan, as much as I admired him, was not a Founding Father.

George Walker Bush could never have been a Founding Father.

Barack Hussein Obama WILL NEVER be a Founding Father.

Do you even know what the term "Founding Father" means?

Go look at the signatures on the DOI. Those are the signatures of our Founding Fathers.

Read the Federalist Papers. They were written by our Founding Fathers.

How, pray tell, is Barack Obama going to be a Founding Father?

Is is, perhaps, going to discover the next internet?

Ranger
Obama is a salesman, not a leader. Leaders inspire respect, not adulation.

Why am I doing this?
I'd promised myself I wouldn't respond to anything further from Parker, but this is too much! As others on this thread have noted, the title has nothing to do with the body of your piece. Anyone who's followed U.S. political events even from a distance, recognize how shallow, hypocritical and truly sophmoric most of your posts are regarding BHO. Your "breathless" cooing about having gotten to ride on AF-1, coupled with the spew of gush about BHOs urbane demeanor and superior intellect place you not even in the light-weight catagory, rather the hellium-weight league as far as reportage goes. Even the most fundamentally basic objective viewing of BHO's credentials for the office while still a candidate should have caused great concern regarding his abilities and capabilities for the office of POTUS. But no dear K.P., our intrepid little fluffy, you as well as 52% of the voting populace were agog by the seeming substance of the virtual shadow we now have as our President. Please, please, make an attempt at thinking down the road a bit. Try imagining variables and pitfalls that might come up. Write something with a bit of depth and intellectual investment. You might be surprised at what you really are capable of. Or, you can stay with the fluffy, then appear shocked, surprised and aggreived that your choice didn't live up to your expectations.

Terror Warning Issued For G20 Meeting

This should be crossing the wires sortly. MI5 and MI6 have confirmed that the security warning for London has been raised to "top severe", which means that a catastrophic terrorist attack is coming. The only higher warning is "severe", wic means that an attack is imminent. According to the intelligence agencies, they have received information from credible sources that AQ-radicalized terrorists are planning a terror attack during next month's G20 meeting. Further, the intended targets include luxury hotels. Due to the congested nature of London's layout and the architecture, there is belief that it would be much more difficult to control than was Mumbai.

The United Kingdom has never has such a severe terror warning.

ranger
All I've seen from obama so far is whining about what a mess others have left for him, and full time campaign stops.
A real leader leads by example and doing his job, not salesmanship. For example, if obama didn't know about the AIG bonuses, then he's not in control of his people or he's lying. Either way he's not doing his job.

I will agree that selling a program is part of his job, but first he has to have a program and quit making excuses.

London Warning - Confirmed
Confirmed by Gordon Thompson of intelligence.

This should be crossing the wires shortly. MI5 and MI6 have confirmed that the security warning for London has been raised to "top severe", which means that a catastrophic terrorist attack is coming. The only higher warning is "critical", which means that an attack is imminent.

Head of Intelligence stated that they cannot hope to prevent every attack, but will do all that is possible to protect the City of London and those attending the upcoming G20 meeting.

you must be hearing different news than I do.
His foreign policy, so far, has been a total embarrassment. He's pissed off the Brits, and Iran's having a laughing fit at his childish overtures. The Russians are playing him like a cheap fiddle.
His economic solutions so far consist of counterfeiting money and fencing it through AIG.
Considering he's a certified phony,
He's had all the chance he deserves.

Khamenei Tells Obama To Get Lost
Iran's supreme leader rebuffed President Barack Obama's latest outreach on Saturday, saying Tehran was still waiting to see concrete changes in U.S. policy.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was responding to a video message Obama released Friday in which he reached out to Iran on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian new year, and expressed hopes for an improvement in nearly 30 years of strained relations.

Khamenei holds the last word on major policy decisions, and how Iran ultimately responds to any concrete U.S. effort to engage the country will depend largely on his say.

In his most direct assessment of Obama and prospects for better ties, Khamenei said there will be no change between the two countries unless the American president puts an end to U.S. hostility toward Iran and brings ''real changes'' in foreign policy.

''They chant the slogan of change but no change is seen in practice. We haven't seen any change,'' Khamenei said in a speech before a crowd of tens of thousands in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad.

Khamenei said there has been no change even in Obama's language compared to that of his predecessor.

''He (Obama) insulted the Islamic Republic of Iran from the first day. If you are right that change has come, where is that change? What is the sign of that change? Make it clear for us what has changed.''

Majority's are wrong more often than not. I would liken the majority that elected obama to a mob.

What a nice gift for Obama to give to his "home state"!

Cavell - They Are Called Amendments
Has the Constitution been modified since it's inception? Yes. Such is called the Amendment Process. To amend the Constitution, the proposed amendment must pass through both houses of Congress and be ratified by 75% of the States.

Yes, SCOTUS found a "right to privacy" where none existed in the Constitution, but to say that it has just be modified by fiat, whim, and flights of fancy, is ludicrous.

Go to hell..
Parker. You are the typical National Review writer who tries to moderate genuine outrage at the real culprit of America's problems - government. I'll take Glenn Beck with all his zaniness, over you, any day.

A Regime of Disaster
Ms. Parker and Ranger29 still don't get it. What Obama has already done has almost guaranteed our children and grandchildren will be saddled with unprecedented debt and probably runaway inflation. Carter is the only one who is really happy because Obama is setting a new low in the list of disastrous presidents.

My prediction for the next three years: incredible disruption of our economy and renewed and violent attacks from our enemies including Iran, Russia, and possibly, China. They recognize the once economic giant is on the floor, struggling to get up, and they will pile on.

Obama may reign as president but he doesn't know how to use the reins of power. He still thinks he is a community organizer in Chicago. Like a child with a box of matches, however, he is likely to set the world on fire.

Peggy Noonan seems to be catching on to the Obama disaster in the making but Ms. Parker is still locked up in her cocktail circuit where the only serious incident to be remarked upon is a spilled drink.

Parker's Crush, Our Nightmare!
Parker, you spent whatever capital you had with your obsessive hateful mendacious attacks against Governor Sarah Palin. You said that she was not ready to lead, even though she was running for Vice President.

You fawned over your Messiah even though he isn’t ready to lead the dung collectors at your local zoo.

You inflicted him on the nation. The buck stops with you.

Now shut the hell up and slit your wrists!

Our Foundling Falterer
KP, are you outta your tree??? This imposter a founding father??? We don't even know if he's LEGALLY the president! He's done more damage to our country, in just 2 months, than any president in our history! You might seriously consider pulling your head out of O'Dumbo's butt! The oxygen deprivation is beginning to show in your writing!
Yes, Wobbly (the wump) Wanger, he's only been in office a couple of months and see how much damage he's already done! More deficit than the hated Bush2 created in EIGHT YEARS! The lowest DOW in 25 years! And he's promising the greatest tax jump in our history! (the cap & trade tax, pandering to the myth of Gore-Bull Warming) Gee Wobbly, didn't he promise us po folk that only the rich would be paying more taxes?
And as we mere peons are trying to find ways to economize, Barry Mugabe & Lady McBeth are partying on $140 beef! Using AF-1 to go to a Valentines Day dinner! Flying halfway across the country to sign the ~Steal-from us~ bill (TYVM Once&Always)in Denver! And he's SHOCKED at an amendment in the ~Steal-from-us~ bill and a publicly announced fact from last year! Like KP, you might consider pulling your head outta the messiah's butt! The effects are showing!

There's still hope for Kathleen
Usually, I'm as annoyed with Kathleen's columns as any of the other conservatives on this site. I'd give her a one also. This one I'd give a three. I thinks she's beginning to be set free from her blindness to Obama and his true character and the character of this congress.

She wrote:
"Despite civic rage and political blame -- even death threats aimed at business executives -- there is a carnival air of unseriousness and grotesquery loose upon the land. Life has become one grand, comic burlesque, a vaudevillian game show...the president hits the late-night circuit in the midst of crisis.

Obama's appearance on Jay Leno's show Thursday night...is symptomatic of a broader blending of the serious and the comic that makes sane people feel slightly displaced. ...but is this any way to live?"

It was that spirit of frivolity in the midst of crisis that was the base of my comment about Obama's Wednesday night parties reminding me about the 'Masque of the Red Death' by Edgar Allen Poe.

The fact that Kathleen is beginning to be aware of it means there's hope that she may yet be set free from the hypnosis of Obama's self-love (narcissism). It means there's hope for her and hope for us as a nation as more and more Americans see him for who he truly is and are set free.

He and congress then won't be able to divert Americans by bogus scapegoats like the AIG executives. They won't be able to blame Bush.

By God's grace, there won't be any repeat of Germany's 1938 'Crystal Night' here.

Pray people. 2 Chronicles 7:14.

my two cents
Kathleen - you ROCK

"There is a carnival air of unseriousness and grotesquery loose upon the land."

That sums it up very well, and IMO it is because of one fact - the inmates are now running the asylum.

Take a democratic house, a democratic senate and a democratic prez who has NEVER governed before and a fawning press which is SLOWLY waking up to the fact that NOONE takes it seriously and it has lost all credibility, and you get the above. You get what you paid for.

A One for Parker; You Guys Get 5s
As always, the blogs are more interesting than anything this clueless groupie writes.

Obama -- "My FIRST TERM ...
Another example of the Messiah's arrogance. His FIRST TERM? One more thing to note -- he and his crew want citizenship for illegals; the union "card check" and on and on. Why? They will all then support the Democrats. Time for him to spend some time in the White House! Much ado about private jet use by corporate executives -- how much is it costing taxpayers to finance his jaunts all over the country on Air Force One? Another thing -- we have the First Lady planting a garden on the White House Lawn -- in a designer dress. Who will maintain it? How many staff members will work the garden and provide security for the Obama children at their new swing sets? If all this were not so insane it would be laughable.

Slow Learner
Kathleen,

You can't be this slow!! What do you expect from an academic tossed into the Presidency without ever having accomplished anything. You get a talking suit.

obama president ???

He said he is president however, the facts show he is third in line to be president. Nancy and Harry are first and second.
obama is just a slippery mouth piece for the leader of the house and senate. The man who claims to be president has not read the entire bills he signed with the permission of Nancy and Harry.
Obama's actions are approved and sanctioned by Nancy and Harry. Obama is a third rate political hack.
He claims he is president but, he is "the man who claims to be president" ,but isn't.

barack hussein obama . . .
reminds me of that "blackface" comedian who performs antics (sight gags) for the crowd for their pleasure without realizing that he is being used (degraded).
The real danger is in his "handlers" (rom emanuel and others). They are "the powers behind the throne" and will use him for their own purposes. The "handlers", not being elected are not accountable to anyone and can do as they please.
barack hussein obama is a smooth, slick talker (only with a teleprompter) and appears to be "educated". However, we all know there is a difference in being educated and "educated".

BHO is truly living above his Pay Grade
The 54% or whatever percentage voted for this clown need to be fitted for straight jackets and sent to the nearest Insane asylum post haste.

I wonder how much money this twit
Parker gets paid?
If its over minimum wage, she is overpaid.

The reason Obama must keep repeating the line "I am the President" is because like all scam artists must keep saying "trust me".
He is no President, he is a actor, and a horrible one to boot.

The same people who admire such morons as hollywood produces admire this clown.
He found his true calling appearing on the Jay Leno comedy special, that appeals to the idiots of America.
That is where this clown belongs, late night comedy cause he damn sure is no President.

By the way Ms Parker, your founding father has nothing to do with anything Presidential or honorable.
Those who honor fools, are fools.
You fool

For BO to "take the reins of power"...
..he has to stay in the driver's seat for more than 20 minutes. I recall Bush getting whipped mercilessly by the press as being out of touch and clueless because he spent more time out of the White House than any other president. So far in just two months Obama makes Bush look like a White House recluse. His flight schedule is starting to look like United Airlines. He is still stuck in campaign mode and when he isn't campaigning he's "unwinding from the pressures of the job" by getting away from the office.

Well gee, Barry, guess what? Running stuff is hard, especially the largest economy and most powerful military in the world. Had you actually run anything, anything at all, besides a campaign before you decided that you were "the one we were waiting for" you might have known that. Your hopey-changey mantras are wearing thin, particularly when you appear to be hopelessly in over your head and the 'change' you're bringing to America is really no more than the stuff we use to feed parking meters.

Just repeating 'Yes We Can!" endlessly doesn't make it so. So far you apparently can't.

Reap what you sow
Is not just some obscure bible cliche. You voted him in Parker. Enjoy yourself and be glad in your decision. What?! You're worried the POTUS doesn't realize he's in charge yet?? Then you're more misguided than most Obamafonts. He's doing EXACTLY what is prescribed by his belief system. Tear this place apart from the inside!

Shows the Audacity
of a President who thinks he is now King of the land.

When Pres. Obama learns the money is mine he is stealing. I will gladly support him. Till then, I will struggle against the thief in charge.

Beck like many for entertainment do play emotions of all sorts. At least Beck has truth on his side. Not some watered down Republican or out right Democrat Republican who thinks there is any good in D.C.

Our forefathers made it clear that government is our number one enemy. When will be treat it like that. Or will media keep playing the game for their gain.

HE' NOT MY PRESIDENT

.....He is the CELEBRITY-IN-CHIEF ELECTED BY THE IGNORANT MOB AND THE ELITE "WHITE GUILT" LIBERALS who thought that "HE" was the one ...like you KP ...

Come on, Scout!
This offering from KP wasn't that bad, I'll give her 2 checks - much better than her usual zero.

Leaders lead, but phony narcissists pretend to lead. They seek only adulation and affirmation, ergo face time on The Tonight Show and YouTube diplomacy with our enemies, who are gleefully rubbing their hands together at the prospect of handing Obama his head.

I'd like to see Chocolate Jesus (or his teleprompter) debate Limbaugh, or maybe not. The constant "umm's" and "uhh's" would be tedious. Bush may have mangled a few words, but at least he could convey a cogent thought or a vision. Obama doesn't dare speak off script because like all "progressives" he cannot allow the sheeple to know what he really believes.

Gaffs show what is really inside one's head. In the case of Biden, for example-nothing. In Obama's, darkness. How would you account for the total lack of empathy for the unborn or even mistakenly born other than a craven inclination towards murder. Senior citizens and "Special Olympians" are next, mark my words.

Dhimmicrats are the neo-Nazis.

Parker
KP is such a doorknob. She writes with such condescension toward her readers. She is laughing at the reaction she gets from the readers at TH because every one of her articles has a "nanny nanny boo boo" quality to them that screams "my idol won and I’m still here writing at the Townhall conservative site.” Parker would rather cut out her tongue than blasphemy UhBamUh. She will never turn against him because she is a giggling groupie who used her pen to get the Liar-In-Thief elected while disparaging Sarah Palin at every turn.

Nope: Wrong AGAIN
Kat, Kat, Kat! You began with the right tone, but those inner demons just won't shut up, will they? Beck is not the enemy. He didn't cause the New Depression. Neither did the executives' bonuses, sordid though they are.

More people are mad at Dodd for putting them in the contract than the doofuses who're getting them. Hey, would you cash a check with 6 zeros?

If you want to know what people are pissed about, it's the Frank'nDodd Monster, the one where the monster was merely dormant on the table, not quite monstrous, waiting to be charged with a bolt of lightning. Bush warned us - about 17 times - about the monster, but Dr. Frank'nDodd kept screaming - in a histrionic hissy-fit - that Fannie was perfectly sound! And then the bolt came.

You know who most Americans are mad at? It's not just the executives: it's the neighbor who bought the luxury digs they couldn't afford, and who expect to be rescued. It's the Congress that is spending play-money that even the Chinese won't buy anymore. It's the President who can't find his own backside with both hands in the dark. Yup. Ol' stinky and snorey.

Obama makes Rush look like he belongs on Mt. Rushmore, and makes Glen Beck look like Winston Churchill.

And the Limp-wrist in Chief looks more and more like a crackhead riding in the back of a limo, a silly, wimpy teenager who somehow managed to convince the world he was a Starfighter.

"Quit spouting off like they got everything right. They did the absolute best job they could, but they still made some stupid mistakes - 3/5 comes to mind."

But was it a stupid mistake? No it wasn't. You view history through a current lens. Try viewing it through the lens of the time. What you view as a 'mistake' of the time, was often the only compromise available to achieve freedom and independence from GB, and establish this country.

If the FF took your all or nothing approach we would still be part of GB, and realize this, so would Canada, Australia, and India just for starters.

Kathleen Parker
As you go out of your way to disparage Rush and Beck you best realize they were right and you were wrong. They both were way ahead of the curve, and the consensus of this country knows it.

Take the plank out of your eye KP.

Kathleen
Given what Obama has managed to, ahem, "accomplish" in his first two months in office, I would prefer it if he would stick to the talk show circuit where he can do less damage.

The Mob
If you put the proper names to what the Obama/congress is doing, we would have to rename them "The New Mafia"

1.Monetizing the dept= counterfeiting
2.Bailouts to AIG= money laundering for num. 1.
3.Taxing AIG bonuses at 90%= loan sharking
4.Stimulus package= union paybacks and bribes
I'm sure there's more

"Quit spouting off like they got everything right. They did the absolute best job they could, but they still made some stupid mistakes - 3/5 comes to mind."

This old chestnut of the left never dies. The idea of counting slaves as 3/5 of a person was an ANTI-SLAVERY policy designed to limit the congressional representation (and hence, legislative power) of the slave-holding south.

Learn some history, clown.

Sorry. I had to stop reading . . .
When I saw that one of the liberal posters on this thread describes the consitution as a "living document." A living document would me anarchy or no law at all. If the law can be whatever anyone wants it to be, it is not law but fantasy or anarchy.

What a fool!

The Brownshirts Are Coming!
Click my name and go to my blog and read about Obama's new brownshirt force.

The time to take action against the founding of this force is now, people.

Make sure to let your elected officials know you're against this new development on Obama's part.

Does anyone remember . . .
When Hitler asked the Reichstag to give him "special powers?"

Sound familiar?

Do you know what followed?

Gordon
Have you read Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism"? Everything the obama administration has done so far is straight out of the Woodrow Wilson-Mussolini-Hitler playbook

The AIG bargain
The bonuses were money well spent. They were retention incentives for people tasked with ridding AIG of toxins. They dumped about $1 Trillion. That's a 8000:1 payoff.

Jim.... I wish you were right...

Sadly, I'm afraid most Americans have devolved into self-centered sheep all too willing to believe most of the pablum on TV. I wonder if newspapers arfen't failing as much because Americans have become to lazy to read as much as because of their content.

J-10
Yes, I did. A wonderful and cogent explanation of the fascist relationships.

I just noticed one of our "favrorite" posters now claims that the U.S. is governed by majority rule. He also comments occasionaly about the republic revealing that he doesn't understand either.

J-10
Apparently some of the posters on this thread do not bother with trying to learn anything before they hit the keyboard. When Bush did "the same thing?"

Whad'ya think?

it still don't make me wrong. Just because you can incite a mob does not make you a leader. Obama is like a dog chasing a car. He's caught it but he doesn't know what to do with it.

It's fun to gig him. He has no clue about the history of progrssive thought. He's good practice for trying to understand the rank and file libs.

That right was protected for yankee states even after the war.

Tsunami Is Coming
Ranger29 and the other bloggers supporting Obama remind me of the people who desperately tried to keep the levees in New Orleans from being overwhelmed by Hurricane Katrina

His agenda is simply not sustainable given the opposition that is going to grow and grow and grow when he gets to nationalized health care and cap-and-trade. The final tsunami will result when he and the democrat Congress actually pass higher tax rates and the whole country blows up in rebellion.

And the MSM are going to turn on him, you betcha!

J-10
Ranger'sIQ's-29 has a movie named for him. It's called "Clueless."

Frank Rich Slams Obama
A CHARMING visit with Jay Leno won’t fix it. A 90 percent tax on bankers’ bonuses won’t fix it. Firing Timothy Geithner won’t fix it. Unless and until Barack Obama addresses the full depth of Americans’ anger with his full arsenal of policy smarts and political gifts, his presidency and, worse, our economy will be paralyzed. It would be foolish to dismiss as hyperbole the stark warning delivered by Paulette Altmaier of Cupertino, Calif., in a letter to the editor published by The Times last week: “President Obama may not realize it yet, but his Katrina moment has arrived.”

Six weeks ago I wrote in this space that the country’s surge of populist rage could devour the president’s best-laid plans, including the essential Act II of the bank rescue, if he didn’t get in front of it. The occasion then was the Tom Daschle firestorm. The White House seemed utterly blindsided by the public’s revulsion at the moneyed insiders’ culture illuminated by Daschle’s post-Senate career. Yet last week’s events suggest that the administration learned nothing from that brush with disaster.

wrong headline
Kathleen, the headline should read "floundering" as that is what Obama is doing. This man never ran anything, was never in charge of anything, yet "we the people" trusted him with the most important job in the world.

He takes on a dozen issues and is doing none of them well. Try one at a time, Obama, and start with the economy and get it right.

Geithner has to go. Most of Obama's cabinet appointments are as weak as he is. Hillary Clinton is an exception.

Our constitutiion
In the beginning slavery was protected by the constitution. It was abolished by presidential edict and eliminated by war. That is not majority rule. It is survival of the fittest.

In the beginning women were not allowed to vote. By a constitutional amendment that was changed to allow women to vote, which is now the law of the land. The amendment came about by rule of law firmly established within the constitution and was ratified by the people. That is marjority rule, but only within the confines of the law, not the mob.

The current occupant of the white house is acting a great deal like other dictators who have acted on the world stage. That is not majority rule, it is called dictatorship.

Wobbie

Did I write the letter to the New York Times in which the term "Katrina Moment" was used?

No.

Did I slam Obama like ultra-liberal, Frank Rich, did?

No, just posted the lead paragraph and link to the article.

Wobbie: Terror Warning

Smarta$$, here you go:

British luxury hotels are vulnerable to Mumbai-style attacks, senior anti-terrorist officers are warning, ahead of a major relaunch of the Government's counter-terrorism strategy next week.
Security services officials are also judging the threat against the UK to be at the "severe end of severe", just days before the G20 summit in London is due to begin.

What you fail to comprehend is that I don't care about Reagan's handling of Lebanon or Bush's handling of Katrina, and I LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS. Does these mean that those events were not significant and tragic? Of course not, but they are irrelevant.

Wobbie, you are focusing on two words in Frank Rich's piece and missing the broader point: Frank Rich, the ultra-liberal, has slammed Obama.

That's the reason that I posted it, not because of two words, namely, "Katrina moment".

Kathleen Parker?
Why is this HACK, still at Town Hall? What happened to her gig at the WAPO? Somebody should ask this sellout, if she heard that AWFULL Sarah Palin, and her DISGUSTING speach to the Special Olympics Committee? Maybe she can compare it with the "JOKE", that the JOKE she voted for, told at the Special Olympics' expense. I see that this idiot, Kathleen, even wormed her way on to that IDIOT Mathews' stupid show. Yep, what does it profit an old bag, to gain the whole world, and lose her worthless soul? Tell us Kate. What's it like being you? Is it like being on the Special Olympics? Are you laughing? Idiot.

Your Fault Cupcake
Hey Cupcake, I seldom agree with you, but you're right, Infotainment isn't a new topic. It's what happens when journalists evaluate candidates based on their own biased view of the world, rather than on the candidate’s merits or flaws. The reason we're stuck with a con man as president is because you and thousands of other brain dead, sycophantic butt boys (and girls) fell in love with Obama. You fell for his charm, rather than vet his character, record and policy. You were too busy pointing out how much you despised Sarah Palin to pay much attention to the gaps in Obama's record, the disingenuous statements he was making, or the "curious" techniques he used to keep people from offering unflattering information about his acquaintances and record. If you had worried more about the truth and less about your standing at Georgetown (or Air Force One) parties, perhaps we would have had more evidence with which to evaluate the true merits of the candidates. President Obama was a phony and lightweight long before he won the election. It would have been good of you to point that out then, rather than whine about it now.

Geithner's Grab Bag Of Slogans
The New York Times got the obligatory leak from the nearly-empty halls of Treasury for today’s scoop on the plan from Tim Geithner and Barack Obama on how to fix the economy. To no one’s great surprise, it involves more regulation and intervention by the government, but the only thing clear about it is that Geithner and Obama still don’t have specifics.

The one clear message that comes from this report is that the Obama administration still has no plan. It has a few concepts, some of them contradictory, but no clear commitment to any details at all. Which again begs the question: just what has Tim Geithner been doing with his time at Treasury?

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/03/22/the-geithner-plan-sti ll-a-contradictory-bag-of-slogans/

Obama the MIA president

Tim Geithner isn't the problem nor can he alone be the solution. The problem is Obama. While he, uh, glibly, uh, states that, uh, "the buck, uh, stops here," he then smilingly tap dances away to another of his endless public appearances, leaving Geithner in the cross hairs of the congress, the media and the public. Obama is a WUSS.
He's a Chief who dances away any time the campfire gets too hot and the fractious villagers become too demanding. When a child doesn't do its homework, or shirks a specified duty, we take away a favorite toy or pastime or deny an outing. It's time we take away Air Force One, the helicopters and the limousine and tell this child he can't leave the house until he's done his chores. Maybe then we can have a President instead of an Absentdent.

The Obama Gong Show
Even before it is officially launched, experts have warned that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's expected plan falls far short of what is needed to ease the financial crisis, with one Nobel prize-winning economist calling it an "awful mess".
The plan builds on the outline Mr Geithner provided last month, which was roundly slammed for lacking vital detail.

Leading US economist Paul Krugman said the scheme would potentially socialise losses and privatise any gains in the financial system, leaving taxpayers worse off. "This plan will produce big gains for banks that didn't actually need any help; it will, however, do little to reassure the public about banks that are seriously undercapitalised," he said.

"And I fear that when the plan fails, as it almost surely will, the administration will have shot its bolt: it won't be able to come back to Congress for a plan that might actually work. What an awful mess."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/financialc risis/5029122/Tim-Geithners-new-trillion-dollar-US-plan-is- not-enough-experts-warn.html

Will somebody rid us of the turbulent TOXIC PRIEST at Treasury? The WHOLE WORLD is laughing at us and the economy is no laughing matter.

If Obama can't get it together enough to focus on jobs 1, 2, and 3, i.e., THE ECONOMY, he needs to resign ASAP.

Denise
In today's Parade Magazine, Robert Mugabe is lasted as the #1 worst dictator in the world.

The terror warning in London might be more scary than the Blitz was, considering that the Blitz was from outside, and that terrorists are overrunning England, and a member of the govt considers them above the law.

Ti: a difference in being educated and "educated", or between being "schooled" and "educated".

The 60 million Odumbo voters were empty-headed twits who had no idea what Odumbo would do, even if he told them. They haven't changed. Are the 60% poll numbers 60% of the people, or 60% of a select group of Odumbo voters? If the latter, does that mean that 40% of Odumbo voters wised up, and now oppose him?

Jerseyvet: Remember to that the govt of New Orleans took the resources that were provided to upgrade the NO levees to withstand a force 5 hurricane and spent it for something having nothing to do with hurricanes.

Robert: Congress still has "Sheets" Byrd.

Ron & Jerseyvet

Thanks. I know more than I want to know about Mugabe and his dictatorship. What no one seems to realize is that we are on the verge of a global depression. Some may say that I am hysterical about it, but when one considers what the Federal Reserve did this week, there is no denying the obvious. Ben Bernanke is one of the world's foremost experts on the Great Depression and he knows where we are heading. The fact that the Fed. PRINTED ONE TRILLION DOLLARS this week in a effort to jump start inflation is telling. More importantly, its action has NEVER BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THE HISTORY OF CIVILIZATION. Too many are focusing on a few trees while the forest is on fire. If you want to read more about this, check out my many posts on Eileen McCann/Dick Morris' column: The Fed's Futile Move.

Jerseyvet: Another thing that you should know about Katrina is that 30% of the money that was directed to recovery has MAGICALLY DISAPPEARED. According to reports down here, the Fed and charities gave 70 BILLION DOLLARS and upwards of 21 BILLION DOLLARS is missing. A couple of months ago, two of our department heads resigned and said that New Orleans is a Banana Republic. They hightailed it out of here and went home to the less corrupt cities of Chicago and Boston.

Since the conversation of the Stimulus bill began, I have been writing to warn everyone that the Katrina Tsunami is going to sweep the nation. You just can't throw billions of dollars into local and state governments without corruption and waste occuring.

Kathleen's Agenda
Clever, Kathleen.....Start an article being witty in criticizing Obama and then later on get to where your heart really is: mocking Glenn Beck because he truly does care about our country. And, in mocking him you also get to mock religious people--wow, a two-fer.

Along with so many others here, I truly wish you would take your smug self-righteousness and superior attitude and simply go away. However, your irritatingly controversial stance draws an audience, and this helps TownHall prove to advertisers that they have readers. So, you are here like a bad odor, and people can't help but peek at what is causing the stench.

As for myself, one look at your articles about once every 2 months is more than enough. I check to see if you've changed. So far I remain disappointed.

Kathleen - authority of moral outrage?
So, Kathleen. How is the hope and change thang workin' out for ya?

Denise
Krugman is a far left economist and an ardent Obama supporter. As recently as December, Krugman claimed that he was advising the Obama team on economic issues.

If Krugman is opposing Geithner’s plan, the plan is a disaster and its possible that Congress may reject it.

I don’t see how Geithner can survive when even the far left’s go-to economist attacks him. Geithner’s days are numbered.

EXACTLY!

Geithner has been panned around the world and Obama is standing by him, which only makes Obama look more foolish. Further, it is not just Krugman. Frank Rich has slammed as have other ultra-liberal journalists.

The guy MUST GO!

DDL

Evidently, you do not read Kathleen Parker very often because she has been one of Obama's biggest supporters.

As for mouthpieces, how do you like the words coming out of the mouths of Frank Rich, Paul Krugman, Maureen Dowd and Peggy Noonan, eh? Are they "mouthpieces" for Conservatives? I can tell you that the first three would prefer to commit suicide than to be labeled a Conservative or a Republican. And, Peggy Noonan, while she was a Reagan speechwriter, has been a cheerleader for Obama.

Come back now...

WAY Down South

I am not sure that Geithner will necessarily have to get Congressional support, or at least, the funding for his plan from them. As we have seen with the Federal Reserve, money can be appropriated without the consent of Congress. I would think that, if Congress rejects the plan, the Federal Reserve may finance it, which in my opinion would be a horrible mistake. Just more good money being thrown after bad.

She is seriously
off the mark regarding when they knew. They knew a long time before it became public. Also, Obama has been inciting the anger toward the business community. I am not as angry about the bonuses as I am the bailouts and all the money he has spent and wants to spend.

Add Another Liberal To The Chorus - I
From Thomas Friedman:

I ran into an Indian businessman friend last week and he said something to me that really struck a chord: “This is the first time I’ve ever visited the United States when I feel like you’re acting like an immature democracy.”

You know what he meant: We’re in a once-a-century financial crisis, and yet we’ve actually descended into politics worse than usual. There don’t seem to be any adults at the top — nobody acting larger than the moment, nobody being impelled by anything deeper than the last news cycle. Instead, Congress is slapping together punitive tax laws overnight like some Banana Republic and our president is getting in trouble cracking jokes on Jay Leno comparing his bowling skills to a Special Olympian.

If you want to guarantee that America becomes a mediocre nation, then just keep vilifying every public figure struggling to find a way out of this crisis who stumbles once — like Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner or A.I.G.’s $1-a-year fill-in C.E.O., Ed Liddy — and you’ll ensure that no capable person enlists in government. You will ensure that every bank that has taken public money will try to get rid of it as fast it can, so as not to come under scrutiny, even though that would weaken their balance sheets and make them less able to lend money. And you will ensure that we’ll never get out of this banking crisis, because the solution depends on getting private money funds to team up with the government to buy up toxic assets — and fund managers are growing terrified of any collaboration with government.

President Obama missed a huge teaching opportunity with A.I.G. Those bonuses were an outrage. The public’s anger was justified. But rather than fanning those flames and letting Congress run riot, the president should have said: “I’ll handle this.”

Add Another Liberal To The Chorus - II
He should have gone on national TV and had the fireside chat with the country that is long overdue. That’s a talk where he lays out exactly how deep the crisis we are in is, exactly how much sacrifice we’re all going to have to make to get out of it, and then calls on those A.I.G. brokers — and everyone else who, in our rush to heal our banking system, may have gotten bonuses they did not deserve — and tells them that their president is asking them to return their bonuses “for the sake of the country.”

Had Mr. Obama given A.I.G.’s American brokers a reputation to live up to, a great national mission to join, I’d bet anything we’d have gotten most of our money back voluntarily. Inspiring conduct has so much more of an impact than coercing it. And it would have elevated the president to where he belongs — above the angry gaggle in Congress.

Right now we have an absence of inspirational leadership. From business we hear about institutions too big to fail — no matter how reckless. From bankers we hear about contracts too sacred to break — no matter how inappropriate. And from our immature elected officials we hear about how it was all “the other guy’s fault.” I’ve never talked to more people in one week who told me, “You know, I listen to the news, and I get really depressed.”

Luke Chapter 21:5-36
A synopsis:
There will be those who pretend to be the messiah. ("I am the One we've been waiting for.")

The oceans will become turbulent in strange ways. (the poles are about to change their polarity, with gravitational shifts possible.)

The sun and moon and stars will do frightening things. (right now, there's a quiescent sun - no sunspots for over a year) and there's supposed to be. According to NASA, a barrage of solar flares will regurgitate sometime in the near future, probably between 2010-2012. There are two scenarios: another 1958 tytpe of event, demolishing a lot of our technology (via solar flares) or the continued absence of solar sunspots (possibly for decades) which would likely lead to another miniature ice-age. Right at the time the messiah wants to make energy more expensive.

There also seems to be an increasing number of "flybys" of potential earth-killing asteroids. Look up and do what? Run? Hide? Where?

Jurusalem will be surrounded by enemies, and there will be another Diaspora. (No kidding? Really?) And with the Compromiser in Chief, making the United States into another useless Rahab? Sooner could Israel count on Egypt, than to count on the current occupants in the WH.

Particularly note 21:28 - read it yourself, if you are a person of Faith.

If you happen to be a person whose "faith" is only based upon a Christian "tradition," like the Poser in Chief, you needn't bother.

Yes it is possible that there will an end run around the constitutional authority to appropriate funds that the Congress and only the Congress possesses.

While Bernanke may be an expert on the Great Depression, I think that he has learned his lessons all to well. Yes, it is true that tightening the monetary supply turned a recession into the Great Depression. Thus, I can understand lowering interest rates and pumping money into the system. However, there is a difference between loosening the money supply and flooding the world’s economy with an unending supply of trillions of unbacked dollars.

Bernanke knows no balance. I have lost what little confidence I once had in him and I now believe that he is either incompetent or insane. What I don’t understand is why the individual Presidents of the Federal Reserve Banks have not put a straightjacket on him.

While we face an Argentinean dénouement in regards to US Treasuries, we face a Weimar dénouement in regards to our currency.

Angry at AIG?
No--I'm angry at the government that poured something like $165B into a company worth only $18B.

And where's the outrage at the execs from Fannie and Freddie and their bonuses?

Al, You Want To Get Angry?
Charlie Rangel's relationship with A.I.G. is a complicated one; as recently as last year, he was trying to woo the company to donate $10 million to a school to be named in his honor. And while A.I.G. officials mulled the request, Mr. Rangel supported a provision in a tax bill that saved the company millions of dollars.

For decades, Mr. Rangel has been a close friend of Maurice R. Greenberg, the chief executive of A.I.G. until 2005, and until recently one of the company’s biggest shareholders. Mr. Greenberg has sponsored fund-raisers on Mr. Rangel’s behalf, and in 2007, a foundation controlled by Mr. Greenberg gave $5 million to the school, the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at the City College of New York.

City College records show that the effort by Mr. Rangel and college officials to persuade A.I.G. to donate to the school went on for two years. In a 2007 e-mail message obtained by The New York Times, City College’s director of development, Rachelle Butler, wrote that Mr. Rangel suggested in early 2006 that fund-raisers concentrate on A.I.G. for a contribution. Two years later — on April 21, 2008 — Mr. Rangel attended a meeting at A.I.G. to ask the company to support the school, without specifically discussing a donation.

A month later, as A.I.G. was still considering a financial contribution, the top executive who had attended the fund-raising meeting wrote a letter to Mr. Rangel, urging him to support a provision of a tax bill that would save A.I.G. millions of dollars a year.

Mr. Rangel dropped his opposition to the tax measure, which eventually became law.

With Mr. Rangel’s personal finances and fund-raising for City College now the subject of an ethics investigation, some Republicans questioned whether Mr. Rangel’s public protestations about the bonuses were designed to eclipse his connections to the company over the years.

I read your article and noticed a bit of "Cowardice". You compared Steward and made a reconciling comment. But no comment was made about Rush and Buckley. Were you afraid of saying that Rush is no Buckley. The inference in such a statement could be that Rush is not very smart. The republican faithful appear to be having difficulty with the truth. It's contagious,so I guess you better be careful. Another pathetic "Coward"...

"Are You Punch Drunk?"
President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, touching off “an even more destructive recession and potentially depression.”

His remarks came in a “60 Minutes” interview in which he was pressed by an incredulous Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the world’s economy.

“You're sitting here. And you're— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, ‘I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money—’ How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . .” Kroft asks at one point.

“Are you punch-drunk?” Kroft says.

“No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day,” Obama says, with a laugh.

The interview is Obama’s most detailed explanation yet of his view of the world economic crisis, and he makes clear that he’s afraid the nation hasn’t seen the worst of it – even invoking the possibility of a “depression” if a series of financial institutions collapse all at once.

Just a drop in

Whew!
When I read the beginning of this article, I was worried that Ms Parker had been kidnapped and that some interloper was writing her column instead. I mean, we all know that the real Ms. Parker would NEVER write a column that focused all of its negativity on the Left. Fortunately, we can all breathe easier now, knowing that Ms. Parker is perfectly safe. The apparently negative material on Obama was merely a smokescreen so that she could take shots at Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck (and Fox TV). I'm SO relieved.

You Betcha Cupcake
And suddenly, the "saraphobic" Ms. Parker is slapped back to reality by the "slapstick" of Obama's performance on Leno. It's like we have been trying to tell you "cupcake," elitism is not a substitute for experience.

And, I'll betcha, your columns will begin turning back to more conservative themes but too late, you punched out when you verbally "punched out" Sarah Palin.

BBC: US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will not be allowed to resign amid criticism of his short term in office, President Barack Obama has said.

Does Obama answer to Timothy Geithner - the bankers' representative? Not the other way around?

The president was laughing at Mr.Kroft because he,like you are too dumb to realize the quality of what you say. This economy will survive regardless of what anyone does. People like you, are confused by your own ignorance, which has been created by your self interest. Adam Smith did not teach much about psychology and economics. Dr. Friedman tried but may have fallen short. The "American Mind" is trapped and that it is the real "Crisis". It's funny and I too often Laugh!!

What Are You Talking About, KP?

Perhaps "Founding" was a typo and she meant “foundling” or “floundering.”

I was posting the exact transcript as reported on Politico. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time watching Barack Mugabe nor 60 Minutes.

The "American Mind" is "trapped"? Have you lost your mind? The Federal Reserve didn't PRINT ONE TRILLION DOLLARS on Wednesday to unlock the American Mind. It did it because we are in a deflationary cycle and Bernanke, one of the world's foremost experts on the fiscal and monetary policy of the Great Depression, is trying to jump start inflation so that we do not slide into another depression. Only a fool such as you would think that, "Gee, if Americans only had more confidence and spent money, everything would be alright."

Do yourself a favor and read the international financial newspapers. Your eyes will be opened as to how the world really looks at the economic lameness of Obama and Geithner.

I double-majored in finance and economics at Harvard and attended the London School of Economics. You obviously can't recognize fundamental economic problems when they hit you in the face.

What a ridiculous, little fool you are!

Keep reading and keep fighting!

Quote From The NY Daily News
Missing in action is the Barack Obama who vowed to unite the country around common values. Lately he has been the very opposite of the man he promised. Instead of hope, many have a growing fear of the arrogant government he leads.

In truth, there is no history for what he is doing. He is the most radical President of our times, far outside the mainstream of our political philosophy.
He is not a reformer who fixes things. He fancies himself "transformative," a man who reshapes and reorders. It apparently begins with smashing the existing order under the pretext of managing the crisis he inherited.

During the campaign, a fellow journalist confided that "I know Obama is a Manchurian candidate, I just can't figure out what for."

I laughed then, but no more. Obama represents a secular religion that believes, no matter the malady, Washington is the antidote. More government is the chicken soup of his tribe.

It is an illusion of many Republicans and Democrats that Washington can successfully manage the economy and our lives. Our institutions and culture are too big, too diverse and too unruly to be run like a banana republic.

Yet the economic mess has robbed the nation of its confidence, and the vacuum is being filled by politicians bearing promises and borrowed dollars. The true cost of this "help" will come later, with back-breaking debt and a lack of growth and opportunity.

We can't say we haven't been warned. "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad" is more than folklore. It predicts our fate if we follow the government mob.

Mon Dieu, Un Autre Faux Pas!!!

Le Figaro reports that Obama sent the former leader of France, Jaques Chirac, a "very nice" letter, which included this idiotic comment:

"I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world."

This is a clear snub to Sarkozy and his pro-War on Terror policies (or at least, more pro-WOT than his predecessor). It's also slightly ridiculous for Bambi to claim to be looking forward to working with an out-of-power French leader, especially when he has made no visible effort to work with France's current one.

The actual President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, who has been trying for months to get a sit-down with President Obama is not amused.

Is this snub revenge for Sarkozy calling Obama's foreign policy "utterly immature" during the campaign?

What is his problem? He keeps p!ssing off countries and their press!

And Joe Klein, a rare journalist-novelist who STILL is not worried.

I still have my hourly wage job, and as far as I know, my paltry savings is still in the bank.

All's well that ends well.

What's the surprise?
Campaigns are scripted, life is not. You media folks praised the elegance and intelligence of a guy who took a teleprompter to a rodeo.

Since you unfavorably compared Rush to Mr. Buckley, would you now agree with Limbaugh's assessment that Obama purposely ran as a "blank slate" upon whom we could all confer our hopes? Your column sounds like you feel betrayed.

Ms. Parker,
Are you finally seeing what we have been trying to tell you all along about Chairman Obama? Welcome to reality.

You are finally making sense
This is the first column I've read by Kathleen Parker that isn't totally deluded with "can't we just all get along" mania. Now she knows why we disagreed with her so completely on almost every subject she wrote about.

Tax Day Tea Party Protest Rally Is 4/15
Is Everyone Ready For April 15th?
April 15th is the National Tax Day Tea Party Protest Rally: In a town near you.

I'd like to encourage everyone here to find out where and when your local protest rally is being held on April 15th. The Silent Majority, Silent No More.

It's time to roar. America needs a tidal wave of American patriots to come out and ROAR on her behalf.

Every state has protests scheduled for major cities on April 15th and more and more cities are being added to the list of protesters organizing their local events. Even the Blue states have many cities holding protest a protest rally.

If you can possibly take the day off without being fired, please make every effort to attend with your friends and families. America NEEDS each and every one of us to rally for her!

What classes did you take in "Kennedy Hall"? Please understand that what you referenced tells me, that you are not an "Original Thinker". The London School of Finance would not have taken you without a "Thesis". What was your Topic? Deflation and Inflation are not the same today as they were in 1929. There are many differences. The "FED" is trying to maintain "Value" not counteract "Deflation". Just by printing and distributing more money insures "Inflation". The base money supply in America was 1.3 trillion dollars. Beyond that the economy becomes inflationary. Let's talk Harvard and the economy. I graduated in 95! Also, I am from South Hampton...

Email me at stdenisdevereaux@gmail.com.

Graduated in '88 from H. and '92 from LSE with a JD at G'town in between.

BTW, before you get to locked into your position of the Federal Reserve's latest move, you may wish to read Krugman, the international financial communities' position on the reasons for same, and other economists, the majority of whom agree with me. Please advise as to one successful such capital injection move under like financial circumstances, nationally and globally, where such has been successful. Also, I would be interested in hearing your views on Geithner, his involvement in Indonesia, and the rise of Asia. Likewise, let me know what you think about the Public/Private Investment Program, which even ultra-liberal, Krugman, has opined is a "total mess" and will not work.

Founding father?
Didn't Obama have trouble finding his own father? After finding him, didn't he pretty much distance himself from him? So what does Obama know about any kind of Founding Father? If he is trying to become one of our Founding Fathers, he should be informed that the positions are filled. No substitutions are allowed.

Denise
You were most kind but I can't understand why you went to Georgetown Law? You know George Mason is a better school for economics. I don't like any Public/ Private partnerships. The administration is selling this last pig like they tried to sell "Cap and Trade". If the "Financiers" don't want to play just print more money. Translation; The financiers will sit on the sideline as "Inflationary" monetary policies erode their "Wealth". This path makes me suspicious. If I were you, I would go back to the "Recession of 1887-93" and work my way up. President Woodrow Wilson and his ambivalence started the "Depression of 1929". Balance of trade, deflation, war debt, excessive tariffs, etc. All of these things were "Cloaked" under Protectionism. I like Timothy Geitner and his Asian approach. We need market development and sometimes unpopular approaches are the best ones. Timothy is a very astute player. Please do not underestimate him. What we are seeing today is politics being disguised by economics. When the ship is "Righted" the course will appear clear. I can see somethings but I can't discuss them.

Our founding father?
Faux conservative and now suck-up to the advocacy/adversary punditocracy Parker has the nerve to suggest a linkage between Barack Hussein Obama and those men, our Founding Fathers, who loved America and put their lives and reputations on the line for her?

He criticized them and wants to overturn what they created, including the Constitution.

The insanity of the pseudo-intellects such as Parker astounds and offends.

But even if we were to extrapolate that she meant that Obama was a founding father of the United States of Socialist America, she'd be wrong.

No, he's just a empty-suited tool being manipulated by his Demockacrat/Dementocrat, leftist and liberal puppeteers.

George Mason is a better school for economics."

I went to G'town for a number of reasons. As the General Counsel of a large corporation, I have never regretted going to G'town. Further, the contacts that I made at school and living in DC have been most beneficial.

"I don't like any Public/ Private partnerships. The administration is selling this last pig like they tried to sell "Cap and Trade"."

I agree. A lot of people are jumping for joy today because the market is up, but why wouldn't it be? If the government was going to magically erase toxic assets off of my balance sheet, I'd be happy too. Then, when one considers those that may invest, such as hedge funds, they have maximum exposure of $5-8 dollars for every $84 that they put up. It seems to me that this is another boondoggle where the taxpayer will be left exposed to the largest risk.

"If the "Financiers" don't want to play just print more money. Translation; The financiers will sit on the sideline as "Inflationary" monetary policies erode their "Wealth". This path makes me suspicious."

The financiers are sitting on the sidelines now. What is most concerning is that when the economy recovers, they will jump back in to the market, but with the massive governmental spending and the actions of the FR will cause inflation of anywhere from 5-8%, which is a conservative estimate.

Ms. Parker

If I were you, I would go back to the "Recession of 1887-93" and work my way up."

While there may be some similarities, the Federal Reserve was not in existence then. Personally, I find the Federal Reserve to be much more dangerous. As a fiscal-conservative (not Rep.), I am extremely concerned about government spending, however, as I believe it to be unsustainable given that the GDP in a good year is only $1,400bn. Yes, there is room for the GDP to expand, but it is unlikely that it will keep up with spending.

"President Woodrow Wilson and his ambivalence started the "Depression of 1929". Balance of trade, deflation, war debt, excessive tariffs, etc. All of these things were "Cloaked" under Protectionism."

On this point, we are in complete agreement. I believe that Wilson was one of our worst Presidents. In addition to his impact on the economy, his Presidential actions to imprison upwards of 150,000 Americans because they spoke out against him, his failed 14 point plan and the ridiculous L of N, and the Versailles Treaty, which led to WWII, mark him out for special contempt on my part.

killer - III
"I like Timothy Geitner and his Asian approach."

Have you read some to the criticisms written by politicians and economists in Asia? Many believe that his actions in Indonesia, which caused the greatest drop in GDP in the 20th century, led countries such as China to never again be vulnerable to the IMF or the US.

"We need market development and sometimes unpopular approaches are the best ones. Timothy is a very astute player. Please do not underestimate him."

Perhaps, but when he, Paulson, and Bernanke were working on TARP, there were significant discussions about creating a "bad bank", which was rejected. While Geithner's new plan is somewhat different, the idea is the same. I don't believe that he is ignorant. I don't underestimate him, but I do question the overall actions of Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and "stimulus" spending (personally, I have never bought into the Keynes multiplier and records from the 1930s demonstrate that most economists and politicians didn't either.)

Email me, if you want to chat more about economics. I don't think the vast majority of TH readers want to be bogged down with our dueling economic theories. :-)

Dare Kathleen critique the-Bama
Doesn't everyone see that all Kathleen is an attack dog for the Obamathoners? Given the opportunity to differ with the administration's "job" (I use the term loosely), all she can do is mention Joe the Plumber and Glen Beck -- or anyone else -- to mitigate the performance this guy has done so far. Or the candle holders who elected him savior.

Cirque du Soleil in specious reasoning
This column was only a centimeter short of her usual futile diatribe. But I could not pass up your antidotal mention of Joe the Plumber. First of all Kath, where were you? He was one of the only people willing to stand up and ask a serious question. For that “serious” levity, he was criticized and savaged by a wolf pack in what you could call a roman gladiator atmosphere – no holds barred. There’s your circus. That was because journalism in major media took a hiatus from sincere seriousness about the office, or their own cozy relationship with the “candidate”.

Got to use ol’ “Joe the plumber” and his flirt with journalism, don’t you?Yea it is amusing that it was because journalism failed to provide vetting on any level that a candidate deserves. Especially since he himself was one of the toughest critics of a then sitting president. Get over it Kath, but oops, he’ll never ge to ride AF-1. Then fit that into historical precedent and smoke it!

There's nothing to forgive. Parker basically showed how stupid, naive, and spiteful she is by dumping on Palin and endorsing a useless, incompetent, corrupt, inexperienced, reject for POTUS and she has also shown that she is a media whore for going on all those "news" show after ridiculing Palin. She is not a conservative. There's nothing conservative about her. She's an airhead who deserves all the criticism and vitriol that she used on Palin and conservatives pre & post election. Are you even the least bit surprised at the President's incompetence? He had done nothing before reaching the office to suggest he had the qualifications to run a corner market, much less the executive branch. I hate to say "I told you so", but it's hard not to.

Kathleen
I do resent the use of Founding Father for this rant. What she meant with it, who knows? Next time you plan to be fundamentally astute, please give people a clue what you are prattling about. The idea of “founding father” clashes with his suit.

The irony is that he never founded anything, much less new.(or adhered to a founding) By that I mean any originality, unless you want to count his campaign, which he often does, and which apparently is still in full swing. But new anything from him? Please. I’ll give you some editorial suggestion though: “Floundering Father” would have been more apropos.

Tammy you are a joke
It's been at least 40 years since paid journalists have behave themselves. The reason newspapers are failing is that the majority of people understand that Most newspaper journalist are writing fiction not reporting the news. No president in history has beem more protected by journalist than obaman has been. He has not even had to arrest journalist like most socialist do to get that protection.

The country is on the fast track to depression thanks to the incompetence of team obama. along with his increditable foriegn policy mistakes in the past couple of weeks I doubt we are more than 10 months from a major war.
