Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- The first however-many days of Barack Obama's presidency have been a study in amateurism.

Many suspected that Obama wasn't quite ready, but kept their fingers crossed. Optimistic disappointment is the new holding pattern.

What's missing from Obama's performance isn't the intelligence that voters acknowledged in electing him. It's the experience they tried to pretend didn't really matter. Experienced politicians, after all, got us into this mess.

Absent is maturity -- that grown-up quality of leadership that is palpable when the real deal enters a room. There's a reason why elders are respected. They have something the rest of us don't have -- yet -- because we haven't lived long enough. We haven't made the really tough decisions, the ones that are often unpopular.

There's also a reason why it's lonely at the top. The view is better, but the summit isn't so much a mountaintop as a deserted city.

Obama wants too much to be liked. This isn't a character flaw. In fact his winning personality and likability have served him well through the years. Growing up between two cultures -- black and white, American and Indonesian -- he had to learn how to get along. By all accounts, he became easy company.

But there's a price one pays in becoming president. Giving up being liked is the ultimate public sacrifice. This was the hardest lesson for Bill Clinton, who loved people and found the isolation of the presidency particularly brutal. Similarly, Obama wants to stay in touch with everyday Americans, as symbolized by his reluctance to surrender his BlackBerry.

There was a time last week when Obama looked younger than usual. Not youthful so much as not fully formed. He seemed out of place in his presidential role. In a word, he seemed haunted. Had he been visited by the ghosts of Christmas future?

Or had he looked across the table into the eyes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and realized that he was not among friends? Obama's lack of authority over the stimulus package has underscored the value of political experience and toughness -- and given weakened Republicans the leverage they needed to launch an aggressive attack.

In the midst of it all, Obama and Michelle went to an elementary school to read to second-graders, a now time-honored presidential release valve. Clinton read to children during his impeachment hearings. Bush, eternally and infamously, will be remembered for reading "The Pet Goat" to an elementary school class as airplanes were slamming into the World Trade Center towers.

Obama said they were "just tired of being in the White House." Oh, just wait.

Other manifestations of Obama's political greenness include his apology for picking lax taxpayers for prominent positions, his campaign-like tour to Elkhart, Ind., on Monday and his ponderous first news conference later that evening.

First the apology.

Why did Obama feel it necessary to apologize for others' mistakes? If proper vetting was the problem, then say so and correct it. The tax code is absurdly complex and most people with complicated lives hand over their numbers to accountants and hope for the best.

Admittedly, the problem became comical as one after another Obama appointee turned up with tax debts. Q: How do you get Democrats to pay taxes? A: Appoint them to Cabinet positions.

But Obama's eager confession -- "I screwed up" -- hit a hollow note. Doubtless, he was trying to demonstrate "change" by distinguishing himself from Bush, who could never quite put a finger on his mistakes. Rather than seeming Trumanesque in stopping the buck at his desk, Obama seemed more like an abused spouse who starts her day saying, "I'm sorry. It's all my fault."

He appeared weak.

In Elkhart, the president seemed locked in campaign mode, still wooing the crowd and seeking approval. At his news conference, the overriding impression was of a man not fully in control of his message or his material. Nine minutes into the first answer to the first question, I began missing Bush's customary dispatch. Bush's contempt for the media meant he never stayed long enough to bore us.

The faith of the American people may not have been misplaced in Obama. But the young senator from Illinois became a president overnight, before he had time to gain the confidence and wisdom one earns through trials and errors.

Those have just begun.

what happened to your hero!

the apology
Barry's apology didn't make him seem weak. He knew he wouldn't have to elaborate and it was the easiest way to dismiss dumb nominations and get back to the stimulus.

Leaders are supposed...
...to admit mistakes to include their shortcomings in regard to who they picked for leadership positions. That shows character. Obama doesn't appear to have much of a history of it so his recent apology is partially in his favor.

People that have been in the military or are familiar with the culture know that leaders therein are supposed to take responsibility for everyone under them and all decisions. If you're in uniform, try to duck ownership of a choice or decision. You'd be professional toast if you did, and apologizing is considered wimpy and thus not heard. Military people just own up to their foul-ups, take the lumps that will certainly follow, and work to prevent a repeat. That's how it's done in the adult world of honest and noble people that wear the uniform of the country.

I didn't vote for obama, and I still believe him to be corrupt and dangerous to the country. He was on the right track, but instead of apologizing for bad choices, he should just admit his error openly, make changes to prevent it happening again, and then move on.

Jet trips cost US taxpayers 90K per hour

Obama's use of Air Force One is costing U.S. taxpayers over $90,000 per hour. Some sacrifice on his part--he's still campaigning on our dime.

See John McCaslin's write-up on this:

http://townhall.com/columnists/JohnMcCaslin/2009/02/10/is_t his_necessary?page=full&comments=true

"What do you think about this spiffy ride?" Mr. Obama had asked reporters during the flight. "It's not bad."

Terry Moran of ABC Nightline just finished an obsequious report of his excellent adventure on Air Force One today.

An intelligent article
I didn't vote for Obama, but I'm not looking for ways to trash him. He'd better succeed, because if he fails, we'll all pay, and saying "I told you so" will be scant compensation. But, yeah, I get a sense of amateurism in his startup. Clearly the "stimulus" (I hate that word) plan isn't intelligently targetted; it's sloppy and rushed, as Congress brawls to toss in their pet spending. If this is to be anything other than the biggest, most wasteful boondoggle in history, it requires leadership from the only man who is responsible for the big picture. I don't see that leadership or judgment, either on the specific details, or in his choices of people who will guide him. Instead of working on the mess itself, Obama is running around trying to sell it. This reinforces my concern that he's too much style and too little substance.

Well, there's a lot of water to go under the bridge, so it's too early to declare Obama a failure. But these are dangerous times, so I worry a lot about an inexperienced man at the helm who needs on-the-job training.

Kathleen!
Hey, now you find fault with Obama, but you were the one back during the campaign for president that found all the things great about Obama and all the things wrong with McCaina and Palin, especially your trashing day after day of Palin. It's a little disingenuous of you now to suddenly find the news that Obama wasn't all you claimed, a man who was clearly suspect when you were praising him to the heavens back when pointing these things out was not true and it would have been the honest thing to have pointed this out back then. Once again, you turn out to be a dishonest writer, using each new bit of news to bolster your latest take on this. I repeat as I did often during your trashing of McCain-Palin - you are a dishonest writer, who hasn't the courage to take a stand and stick with it.

Underneath the Green
There is something far more troubling than the Amateur-in-Chief's adolescent performance, some things that point to something much more dangerous than a panicked and unsteady hand, even mor unsettling than his declaration - (as Krauthammer noted) - that the bill he's trying to rem down our throats stands between us and "catastrophe." (I would say it stands between us and maybe an apostrophe, at best.)

FAR more troubling is his consolidation of the NSC: William French Smith of the Reagan Administration - (a lone voice among some high-profile junta-wannabees) - kept us from sliding into a declaration of a state of emergency, using the revamped FEMA as a tool to dismantle the constitution. So someone told Barry that Condoleeza and Dick didn't get along - so we need to make sure "we all speak with one voice." But William French Smith never would have been there to alert the President to the plans of the plotters, had his voice been "consolidated."

Now President Infanticide wants to bring the Census into the White House. That way, the Census can say anything and everything he wants it to say. And if you thought 500 FBI files in the White House was un-American, just wait until this power grab is revealed for what it is.

Underneath the green-stick presidency is something very, very ugly. I've only described the tip of this particular arrow. It goes to the heart of our Democracy.

ohohohohbama the boob and ms parker
we all so want you to go after your tirades about gov. palin but obviously you still don't get it. gov.palin wasn't prepared but ohohohbama the community organizer was. you hammered away at palin who by the way would make the great harvard one look stupid right now, and here we have you pretending to step up to the plate and call ohohohohbama not prepared. your credibility is shot, maybe since you work for the huffington, you might get a seat down front and the next ohohohbama press conference.

Obama's Laboratory
I think what the American people want from President Obama is commonsense, not decisions based on ideology. The crisis that he, and the American people, face is probably the most daunting since the run-up to the Great Depression and he is a complete neophyte. I almost expect a big sign on the White House lawn: "CAUTION! AMATEURS AT WORK!"

We conservatives knew that from the outset but the American Idol groupies outnumbered us and, as a result, we got an ideological leader who's testing theories on a wounded nation that have proven worthless decades ago.

Do not ask for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for you and me.

Parker
And just where do you figure the country will be by the time Dumbo gains confidence and wisdom through trial and error?

Thanks Kathleen
I agree with your premise in this article. Unfortunately you should share some of the blame as I will always hold you partly responsible for your eviscerating of Sarah Palin. Thanks Kathleen.

bull
So Palin wasnt ready?lol

He wanted to strut
Since I live in a city infested by gangs (because Canadians out here in the east are terrified of both choice and confrontation) I am used seeing the type of people whom Granny said can *strut sitting down* and the Obamas are that kind of people. In an alternate universe he and his low-class wife are Playas strutting through the clubs with gold chains clanking and pants at half mast and big hats waving. Watching him practice the Politics of Neener Neener Neener, strut around Air Force One, and whine that *being President isnt fun anymore* I think of nothing so much as Huggy Bear, the p*mp friend of Stasky & Hutch.

He wanted to be President so he could strut.

Hope you lemmings are enjoying the show.

OBAMA & OUR INORDINATE FEAR OF TERRORISM
Jimmy Carter believed that an inordinate fear of communism is what drove America into Vietnam. Obama believes that an inordinate fear of terrorism is what made us invade Iraq, and that global warming is a greater threat to our security than global jihad. Obama is a black Jimmy Carter the man who emboldened the Soviets to invade Afghanistan (causing the rise of Al Qaida) and Khomeine to make hostages of Americans in Tehran, the first bold act of Islamic jihad against our country. We were warned by John McCain that Obama would be a second Jimmy Carter and three weeks in office is proving him right as we gather from his actions and the many ominous signs, that he‘s a soft-on-terror leader without the stomach, head and heart to fight this terrible war. Just as events proved Jimmy Carter wrong, that our fear of international communism and the threat of Soviet Russia were anything but extreme so will the nation learn under Carter-like Obama that the threat of global jihad and the nuclear terror masters of Iran are existential and leathally real.

Obama isn't responsible for America falling asleep; but to his lasting regret history will hold him accountable for his missteps, for making the blunders that shock us back into reality as happened to Carter before him and the arch-appeaser Neville Chamberlain, the man who earned the contempt of history.

K.P?
I'm fairly new to TH forum, but if you voted for Obama and dissed Palin, looks like the initials K.P. might stand for Kitchen Patrol. Seems you earned it.

Yep!
His lack of maturity is one of the many reasons I couldn't even consider voting for this man. Not only does he lack the seasoning incurred by mutiple tries and failures over years, he is blinded by his hubris. It is bad enough the damage he and his co-conspiritors in congress are doing domestically, just think of the havoc he will wreak in international affairs.

I have one quibble with Kathleen's column. Bush did not have contempt for the media, he just knew that there would be no honest reporting from them. Obama DOES have contempt for the media; they prostituted themselves to get him elected, so he now feels free to ignore them and show his contempt openly.

Give me a break!
This column is so hypocritical it's not funny. .

intelligence?
"the intelligence that voters acknowledged in electing him."

See, there's your problem Kathleen. Those of us smart enough not to vote for him, recognized there was no intelligence to acknowledge.

It is not intelligence. Call it cunning, shrewdness, manipulation, scathing contempt for his fellow man, but don't call it intelligence.

On the other hand, you are right that he appeared to wear the suit of the Presidency awkwardly. Kind of bumbling. I see it in his face when he perches on the chair in the oval office, hesitantly, and self-consciously signing his first bills. Or when he went to the basement and tried to get chummy with the media. Suddenly he realized these aren't his friends. And it was a shock to him. He really believed the pandering.

Unbelievable!
Parker can talk about the inexperience of Obama now?
You and Biden have alot in common. No matter how hard you try, you are still going to get it wrong at least 30% of the time.

What happened to ...
... the Kathleen Parker who cried "tears of joy" when Obama got elected?

A little buyer's remorse there, Kathleen?

Infamously?
"Bush, eternally and infamously, will be remembered for reading "The Pet Goat" to an elementary school class as airplanes were slamming into the World Trade Center towers."

Infamously? Wrong. W's finest hour began at that moment. He didn't choose to be reading to kids when the planes hit. I'll never forget the poise with which he received the horrible news. I wonder if FDR handled the news of Pearl Harbor so well.

ORDINARY aMERICANS?

We have you to thank for Obama being where he is. I don't know why we are still hearing from you. Be silent and stop your whining!

she's back
After a campaign of pointing out very real problems with the Palin appointment, the fatuous Parker we all remember is back.

It is the children, not the adults, who think that taking responsibility for mistakes makes one look weak.

The Stimulus Bill has gone through the normal congressional process. The supposedly politicized Democratic House Bill will likely be the bill voted on that would have the most stimulative effect. By CBO accounts the Senate bill would have been better before the moderates got ahold of it. The compromise bill will likely be somewhere in the middle. And Obama will have another big win at the start of his presidency.

If this is losing Obama should be grateful if he never wins.

I especially like this quote:
"Many suspected that Obama wasn't quite ready, but kept their fingers crossed."

Ms. Parker, to whom are you referring to when you state "many"? Are you including yourself? I've read and enjoyed your columns long before I found TownHall. More recently, I haven't so much enjoyed them as I've read them with the curiousity one has as they drive slowly by the scene of an accident.

I guess it was easy for you to fall for the glib Barack Orgasma and accept his thin resume', all the while dissing Sarah Palin for her redneck Alaskan speech and no experience. You know, being a woman and all. Still, not all who suffer from having an X and Y chromosome were so inclined, so it must be a mental deficiency on your part.

children in charge
Everyone outside of America can see that we are vulnerable under Obama. He cannot make a decision like a little boy doing the pee pee dance outside the ladies restroom until mommy comes out and holds his hand. He just doesn't have political clout. He's weak, his talks too much and he never says anything of importance. He is off point and he honestly doesn't know what he is doing, you can see the fear in his body. America is going to pay dearly for this weak president, things will change all right, but not for the better. He's just not a leader but a puppet made up by the people around him with money. He's Peter Keating in the Fountainhead.

empty suit
And you had a problem with Palin's experience!
I think I know what you are trying to recognize but don't know how to say it. Empty suit fits.

Bad taste
Hey Parker, what happened? Did Obama leave a bad taste in your mouth after working under the table?

OBAMA AND THE PETER PRINCIPLE

In just three short weeks Barack Huseein Obama has shown a very good example of the Peter Principle, which is: In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to rise to His Level of Incompetence.

It is evident Obama is working above his pay grade and we Americans will pay for it.

KathleenParker
WELL NOW! So the Kool-Aid Hangover is wearing off! You and other MORONS LIKE YOU are RESPONSIBLE for the Sail Eared Simpleton being in POWER! THANKS FOR NOTHING and ANOTHER 1 vote for your Moronic Drivel!

????????????????????????????????????????
????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yeah Bill Clinton
loved people all right. Usually fat people.

Face it, Parker
Anyone who believes in murdering innocent preborn babies will do anything to keep themselves in denial. That is why you supported this dictator. That is why all immoral people supported this big eared puppet.

Two articles in a row
somewhat critical of Obama? I guess the honeymoon is over for KP. Thanks for helping to get our country into this mess, KP.

I'm from Alaska
Sarah Palin hit the ground running when she became governor and never missed a beat.

I guess executive leadership requires more that the ability to kiss up to the liberal media.

Two articles in a row
somewhat critical of Obama? I guess the honeymoon is over for KP. Thanks for helping to get our country into this mess, KP.

truetolife
According to Parker, Bill Clinton loved people.

Yeah, as a conservative, I sure felt the love of the Clintons in the 1990's, all right!

You said of the kind of people Bill Clinton loved that they were "usually fat people". Funny, MY recollection of the Clinton years in power in both Little Rock and Washington DC was that the kind of people Clinton loved were hot-looking women! And from what I've heard about Bill Clinton since he left the White House, this kind of "love" has STILL not subsided - and is STILL being acted upon - to this day!

Your true colors
It's official Kat you're a liberal. To suggest that the faith of the American people may not be misplaced in Obama is ludicrous. The guy is a Marxist commie. The distruction that he and his comrads is the congress will cause will be irreversible. Yes the faith couldn't be more misplaced.

15 seconds in the spotlight
This bimbo's 15 seconds in the spotlight were up long ago. It's obvious she has moved to the left. Why TownHall continues to carry her column is a mystery to most of us.

Oh PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is YOUR GUY Kathleen. You cowardly trashed Sarah Palin who had more relevant experience than ANY of the other three morons on the two tickets and NOW you whine about the fact that after three weeks as president and two and a half months of preparation by Bush Obama still can't find his butt with both hands.

Buff was right
"As to the stone throwing Parker bashing remarks - you guys are idiots. The reason we conservatives are on the outside looking in is because - instead of offering constructive solutions to our problems - we escalated our problems by trying to pass John McCain off on the American people. "

I couldn't have disagreed more strongly with Ms. Parker about Obama and Palin, but ad hominem attacks on people you disagree with are the refuge of very feeble minds. Leave that to the Liberals (unless, of course, you really are Liberals).

Finally
Finally a column from Ms. Parker that actually makes some sense.

Unlike you Kathleen, probably most people reading this site are not the least bit surprised that the Obama presidency so far is amateur hour.

How someone is smart as you could have been so drunk on the Obama Kool Aid will always be a mystery to me.

A LEADER he's not
His response to any kind of challenge is very childish and short tempered, but if you are asking for a handout, he can't be nice enough. The only people he wants to like him are those who want something and will be likely to agree with him - and he already has those wrapped up.

And his idea of bi-partisan is to tell the conservatives they should vote for his bill, NOT to include any of their thoughts or ideas.

THE OFFICIAL MEDIA MEMBER
Not the Obamanation official media member worried about his incompotence. Hillary Clinton, Rush Limbaugh and political analyst were all ignored and the ignorant took office. He has to hold campaign stops to find anyone interested in his stimulus package. Actually there were only people seeking personal favors.

Obama is...
very good at running for office. He enjoys the attention and adulation. Problem is once he gets what he wants he is like a child who gets a gift way too far advanced for his/her level of knowledge.

Obama no more knows what it really means to be president than a six-month old child knows how to put together an advanced science project. Running was fun, but the 'nuts and bolts' of the everyday job, not so much. This man and his wife wanted the prestige and now they want to whine.

Too bad! Get with it O, and do what you promised (including true transparency and true bi-partisanship) or resign and let someone who knows what he/she is doing run the country.

You frighten me!

Allerlei
First, I am glad to see that Mrs. Parker acknowledges that the immature man (little boy?) from Illinois is immature.

Second, I do not believe that those who knew that the man who was held up as the savior of the country even though he was not even a sapling, much less presidential timber, and thus refused to vote for him, need say to her, “Neenah, neenah, neenah; we were right.”

I do not see that Mr. Obama was apologizing for having selected a criminal to serve as a secretary; I see him as admitting, in an unspeakably crude way, that he made a mistake in doing so.

No surprise
any intelligent person knew obama was incompetant a year ago. All his first few weeks have done is provided farther proof of his incompentance.

The CBO confirms that the the democratic pork package will increase the national debt without providing for a single new job. In fact the CBO provides pretty good evidence that the democratic pork package will lead to a major depression which will last 10 years.

I can't believe you
had the audacity to write this column KP.

It seems audacity rules the day in this country.

Richard The Ignorant
"No surprise...any intelligent person knew obama [sic] was incompetant [sic] a year ago. All his first few weeks have done is provided farther [sic] proof of his incompentance [sic]."

Nothing like a post criticizing a Harvard Law grad's lack of "competance" that contains no fewer than 4 grammatical errors. What college, er, high school, er, grade school did you graduate from? Do you have any "farther" proof that "obama" is "incompetant"?

I think I just lost my lunch...
Isn't she the "conseravtive" turned Obamanaut? What a bunch of drivel...why is this even considered an article?

................
------Nothing like a post criticizing a Harvard Law grad's lack of "competance"-----

The idiot-in-chief got into Harvard because of affirmative action, which also put him in the White House. Tell me stupid, if Obama were white would you mental midgets be swooning all over him? Of course not, you voted for him due to skin color.

Also dumbshyt, why is it that obama will not release his grades when all other presidential candidates over the past 50 years have?

Huh?
This is one of the strangest pieces I have ever seen. Kathleen seems to be trying to somehow draw attention to positive things and then call them bad. The only thing that "rings hollow" is this article.

Won't Work
You're still irrelevant. Unfortunately, Obama is not.

who is this dumbo
who wrote this article. Right wingers on this site are running out of names for Obama - so now he's immature???!

Get a grip!

Kathleen -- way to go
If people actually read Kathleen Parker's articles instead of condemning them by looking at the name of the author, they might learn something. This is a first-rate column. She took Obama to task and said, point blank, "The honeymoon's over, honey."

As for Palin, Parker didn't "bash" her last fall, she simply criticized her -- and with good reason: Palin wasn't ready for prime time. Even from a conservative standpoint, Gov. Palin was pallid, never once criticizing immigration amnesty, affirmative action or racial reparations, and always harping on safe market-tested GOP talking points. Palin has a long way to go to impress me. Parker was right about her.

KP knows whereof she speaks. More.

But others knew this Kathleen....
Whilst you were hacking away at the Right.
“In fact his winning personality and likeability have served him well….”

And its more like his whining personality – that’s rubbing many the wrong way --- are what is starting tearing him down. Along with his immature lack of experience.

Similar whining and hackery that comes from the likes of Kathleen Parker on a regular basis.

Parker
I' suspect that I speak for other Obama supporters when I say it's not likely that many yearn for the maturity and experience of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. Frankly, that's maturity and experience that can be quickly forgotten, not unlike the masters and supporters of TARP who have the guts to condemn the stimulas package.

back to Kathleen
FOr those who did not understand:
"Obama’s lack of authority over the stimulus package underscored the value of political experience and toughness – and given the weakened Republicans the leverage they needed to launch an aggressive attack."

Translation:
Kathleen Parker is hoping Obama were tougher so the Republicans, she typically criticizes, could not get a foothold to attack.

An empty suit? Is this a surprise?
Obama's message during the campaign was saying the word "change" as many times as possible and remain somewhat coherent. Obama's resume says "community activist." We're all qualified for the job.

OBAMBI MIGHT HELP GOP

.....It was tough for the Republicans in Congress to openly oppose the President of their own Party when GW sold out to Liberal causes ...

.....Now that there is a Democrat in the White House (thanks GW) perhaps the Republicans can regroup against a common enemy ...that is, if it's not too late ...OH! SARAH wherefore art thou? .....COLOSSUS

Get Over It
I'm pretty sure I speak for a lot of Democrats when I say that we all miss the high level of maturity and experience exhibited by Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld while they had the power. NOT!! The fact is the American public is overwhelmingly excited about the possibilities with a leader like Obama. For all of you conservative, Bush loving republicans - you lost now get over it. You are on the short end of the democracy stick and as a result your thoughts, complaints and suggestions mean nothing. Continued drivel from stupid people masquerading as intelligent beings.

Ah
"There's a reason why elders are respected"

Midlife crisis? Parker is a whackjob these days.

If you righties say it often enough
do you think it will be true? Obama is beloved. GOP--RIP.

How the Mighty Have . . .
Kathleen, the funniest part about this is that you actually sound as if you are surprised by Obama's lack of executive experience. That is just precious. There were many of us only too happy to point that out, but no, the believers were not to be persuaded. Now we're all going to pay for it. I am a conservative and voted Republican but I have absolutely no interest in Obama being a failure. But I very seriously doubt if this guy is up to the job. Remember how we used to say - look at his resume - what in his resume gives you even an inkling that he will have any idea what he is doing when he is sworn in as POTUS? Turns out that was a good question to be asking. And Palin - did you see her op-ed about the stimulus package in the Wall Street Journal? To the point, succinct, dead-on correct - in short - the words of a competent executive.

I could not believe that press conference - what an embarrassment. That is the one feeling I have for this President so far - complete embarrassment. What is he doing going on all these news shows doing interviews? Does he know he has a staff to handle that? What kind of message does it send to the world that the POTUS has nothing better to do than take questions from Anderson Cooper about his dog? His dog! You have to be kidding me! This is the POTUS? You would think that the POTUS would something better to be doing. Can we expect to see the POTUS on The View soon? What about the Cartoon Network? This guy is getting some horrible, absolutely horrible advice. Someone needs to sit him down and explain to him that he is now the leader of the free world and he needs to at least try to act the part.

No Apollo
What drove the US into Iraq was a not very bright president listening to people with an agenda and a theory that proved false.

He would have been better servedf if he had listened to Powell (not his fan either) and Brent Scowcroft instead of Richard Perle and Dumbsfeld, etc.

Slander or Ineptitude?
"time-honored presidential release valve. Clinton read to children during his impeachment hearings. Bush, eternally and infamously, ... as airplanes were slamming into the World Trade Center towers."

Is this a slanderous suggestion that Bush knew of and was stressing about the impending attack or merely an unbelievably inept attempt at parallelism?

If it's the first, I'm not interested in anything this woman has to say. If it's the second, well ... sloppy writing suggests sloppy thinking so ... oh hello ... I'm not interested in anything this woman has to say.

Hey I was able to get through this one.
Ok I read real fast and skimmed over some parts. I admit I missed the part where the goat came in. Nevertheless, I still feel qualified to say that this women is a boring writer and a horrible pundit. She concludes:

"But the young senator from Illinois became a president overnight, before he had time to gain the confidence and wisdom one earns through trials and errors."

We're in the middle of economic Armageddon and now we're supposed to fell good about this. This is why we did not vote for Obama months ago!

Rhetoric
"Rhetoric is either very good or stark naught"... (Selden) You Kathleen, seem to want it five ways from Sunday. I guess Palin, whom you trashed looks like the only honest Pol out there now!

Harvard Law grad's?
No he was what he still is an affirmative action free rider. He's never done anything on his own he been given a free ride his entire life. It would be interesting, if it wasn't for the fact that he will wreck the country while doing so, to see him finale have to do something on his own. Of course the media and his blind socialist follows will continue to hid his failings till its far to late.

Two words describe our new president...
Petulant Punk.

To CT in NJ
Petulant Punk has a nice ring to it. I like it! It's a nice change from Arrogant whatever. I approve!

I feel bad for Kathleen Parker
She voiced an opinion about Sarah Palin that was contrary to the TownHaller's, and now she can't write a thing that they will like...

Keep it up, Kathleen! I don't agree with this column, but I'm laughing at the total idiocy of the people who think Palin has half a brain!

Question?
I know this is a little off base from the topic but I was listening to Rush Limbaugh this afternoon and have a question for the ditto heads out there? Does Rush have a speech impediment like a lisp or something? His wordssssss seem to stretchhhh on and onnnnnaa. What's the deal there? Does it have something to do with his hearing problem? Or is it related to the fact that he has is just an overweight drama queen? or is it the effects of his many prescription drugs addiction?

Just curious? Thanks

yr posting is good and original. Keep up the good work. Those of us who had good sense on election day need encouragement these days. Those who were deaf, dumb, and blind on election day...well, I don't much care about them, do you? They deserve whatever they get!

Teflon Don 1st Post
I think you shouldn't worry so much about Rush, and more about the assholes you continue to elect to represent your state. Is it any wonder why Chicago is on one of the most poverty stricken, violent, high drop out rate in the country? 4 of your last 8 governors have been booted for corruption... lol keep up the good work over there guys...

Chicago this isn't
President Obama have figured out this is not Chicago so the bribery, extortion, benefits, pay to play games will not work in Washington. Especially the president have to many irons to keep watch of.

Parker is scared
The official voice of Obama is now worried, it is time for the nation to panic.

To: Sarah In MO
Sarah, it is not the fact that Kathleen Parker was critical of Gov. Palin that upsets me. Republicans and conservatives differ on many issues. We do not have to march in lockstep.

But to be critical of Palin's lack of experience and intellect and then swoon over Obama's genius proved that Kathleen Parker was not a conservative.

I expect to come to Townhall and read conservative opinions. During the 2008 election, Parker turned into a bizarre Obama worshipper. There are other websites for that kind of idiotic drivel.

Parker wising up?
Errr, Kathleen, he appeared weak, because he IS WEAK. Are you getting it now, or are you still enamoured?

Rats!
This article has nothing to do with GWB, Sarah Palin, or Rush Limbaugh, so let's keep on subject. This title contains the words 'pet goat.' I first thought that Parker was referring to the bleating flock that fantasizes over sex with the Dear Leader and believes that he is a messiah who will confer kitchens and jobs to fat lazy women and crack heads at rallies. Then I thought the article was about the so-called 'news media' who has been having skowers for months now brought about by the thrills running down their legs at the sight of this glorious countenance. Alas, I now understand that the pet goat is actually the snarling Michelle who simply had to get out the black house because the stress of scrutiny by the staff was too great. Rats!

Obama get off the Campaign Trail
He ends up looking like he doesn't know what he is doing because it is true, he doesn't have a clue.
But, he is getting good with the "Elmer Gantry" routine that he played in Ft. Myers yesterday..They were there to touch the hem of his garments and I think he fed the multitude with a couple cans of chicken of the Sea and a few Wonder Loaves. "Oh, master, I so need a kitchen and a bathroom....poof!! It is done, sister now go and sin no more........How much longer is this going to go on? Will the clown get off the campaign trail or is he going to stay in that mode so he will be ready for 2012? How about acting like a President, Obama, afterall, we know you won!!!!!!

Epiphany
And another Obama apologist figures it out. All that talk of the presidency not being a position for on-the-job training wasn't political B.S.

There is a chance that Obama's advisors will be able to shield him long enough for him to figure which end of the Oval Office he is supposed to sit in but I doubt it.

Obama is so far over his head, in a time of a critical need for experienced leadership, that it is quite possible he will be a complete failure before the end of his first year.

Slobama fest month
In his narcisisstic ambition to be President, his imagination and perception dreamed what the job is -- should be. Now he just has to make the job fit his perception. Shouldn't be too hard for a Chicago organizer you say? Not so fast, we're finding out fast what perception of the job he has. Many of us read the tea leaves during the campaign. (he left a trail -- but no birth certificate) Yet it escaped his notice how the president is treated now. And there's that separation of powers thingy. That's exactly where "change" is supposed to come in -- us not him.

Parker
Parker, you campaigned for BO, shut up and take it.

Parker: Obama's Lewinsky
Kathleen Parker should apply for a job as a White House intern. She seems to have most of the qualifications, but the dentures might be a problem.

The Boy President
Ms Parker hit the nail on the head with this one, I have been saying this all along, that this is not a president. What I DO want to know is who is pulling Mr Obama's strings? Is it George Soros? The Chicago political machine? I cannot get myself yet to put the term 'president' and the name 'Obama' together, but I will do what I can to treat him with respect since he is the current empty suit occupying the White House.

Tired of being in the White House
After only 3 weeks?

I was tired of his being in the White House before the first day!

Thanks
I simply must use the words of that famous, stalwart, patriotic American, Keith Olbermann, "Mr. President, shut the hell up." And thank you, Mr. Olbermann for providing the appropriate phrases to tell the SOB to GTH! (This isn't the guy that had pis* running up his leg, is it?) I appreciate this.

BS
I love how people like Parker can look deep into other's inner feelings and souls from afar and purport to know what's going on in there. Laughable and a waste of the last few minutes for me.

Brilliant
I have been saying much the same about the the big 'O' he didn't look presidential at his news conference. But what I thought was most interesting is how he argued with himself at the podium. It was like watching a spoof video of a crazed individual I was really just waiting for him to snap. His voice would change and he would play 'devils advocate' with his own position. I'm sure he meant it to come off as him having already considered those views but it made him look like a street hustler.

What this reminds me of is the first time I saw Duggy Houser MD the draw being you just can't believe a child is trying to skip puberty and the whole entry level experiance to go right to the top.

Problem BO aint on a TV show or is he?

Will Kathleen
have to find a new patsy to use against Republicans? Nah She'll probably be back on his bandwagon in say a few weeks...just to avoid any doubts about it.

Besides
After realizing the amount of people who fantasize about the new President, she'll come back out of her closet soon....always one to keep up with the trends. Tweet on.

Doesn't matter what you write
You're not wanted here.

Too Little Too Late
Your column is on point, but is too little, too late. YOU are one of the awestruck media people who helped this inexperienced, inept, incompetent man get elected. And now we're all going to have to pay for it.

Thanks for nothing!

Naïve, Inexperienced Virgin
Let’s not be too hard on him though; this is his first job.
