Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- It may be time to take a closer look at karmic justice -- that mysterious quid pro quo by which good and bad acts are rewarded in kind.

One needn't believe in past lives and reincarnation to note that there's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on. Put another way: What goes around comes around.

The most obvious manifestation is the 44th president of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama.

I mention his middle name only because Chief Justice John Roberts did during this week's swearing-in ceremony, a proper time for proper names. It was wholly karmic that those who have been hissing "Hussein" as though it were a profane indictment of Obama's patriotism should have to hear it pronounced with dignity and respect in the presence of a largely approving world.

It has never been clear to less-fevered minds why the name's association with Iraq's Saddam was more compelling than with Jordan's royal family. King Hussein, now deceased, and his son King Abdullah II have been among our most valuable allies in the Middle East.

But never mind. The name now belongs to the president of the United States, biracial leader of the free world. Karma be praised.

Another karmic image, both tragic and jarring, lingers from the inauguration - that of Vice President Dick Cheney being transported from the halls of power in a wheelchair. The man whose long political career has been characterized by erect certitude -- and who advised Bush through a series of disastrous misjudgments -- was no longer capable of walking upright because of a back injury.

To the extent that our physical ailments reflect our interior lives, his final public appearance as vice president must have seemed a monument to karmic justice to the least of his fans. Likewise, Bush seemed paler than usual and wan next to a youthful, energized Obama.

Despite his cheerful attitude, it cannot have been easy for Bush to see the Mall teeming with people who had come to celebrate not only a new president, but Bush's departure. Or to hear some in the crowd chant "Na-na-na-nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye" when a television broadcaster announced, "George Bush is no longer president of the United States."

The bad vibes didn't stop there.

After first praising Bush for his service, Obama aimed many of his remarks straight at the heart of Bush's policies. Most piercing was his promise to the rest of the world that America was now ready to lead again.

Obama recalled earlier generations that "faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions."

"They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please."

There's little question for whom that was intended, but Obama was off the mark when he said that "we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders."

Say what one will about Bush, he was not indifferent to the suffering of others. In fact, he is credited with saving millions of lives by allocating billions to fight AIDS and malaria in Africa. He also has been instrumental in helping bring an end to civil war in Sudan and was among the first to declare the atrocities in Darfur as genocide.

By those acts, surely, Bush has accrued a store of good karma, if little public acclamation, to balance whatever justice is his due.

On a lighter note in the annals of karmic history, Illinois first lady Patricia Blagojevich has been fired from her $100,000 job as a fundraiser for the homeless.

And former French President Jacques Chirac was taken to the hospital after being bitten by his pet Maltese poodle. The pup was being treated for depression, apparently unsuccessfully.

Somewhere, Tony Blair is smiling.

And now for our turn.

Obama didn't use the precise words, but he implied in his inaugural address that our current crises are karmic justice for decades of self-indulgence, greed and irresponsibility. It's not that we necessarily deserve a collapsed economy, two wars and a warming planet, but we can't place all the blame elsewhere.

Urging a new era of responsibility -- long the rallying cry of conservatives -- Obama was essentially invoking ancient scripture: "For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

As presidential mantras go, we could do worse. May good karma be with him.

Bush Good and Bad
There is no karma. (Crap) happens to good people who haven't earned it.

Bush's problem, and it will be the same problem for the next GOP Prez, is that DC is a 90% Dem town. They will be intrinsically hostile to him. Policy disagreements and blunders will be opportunistic complaints more than actual grievances. It's about Left vs Right more than not.

Given that faux-intellectual (reactionary) opposition to Bush, it is a deception, were there karma, what price is to be paid?

The Parker Problem
Parker is a problem because she pretends to be a conservative and it is from that vantage point that she attempts to destroy from within. The liberal newspaper editors all across the nation that pay Parker her commission are her willing accomplices.

It is one thing for a liberal to call Bush a failure but quite another for a conservative, even a phony one, to call him one.

It’s time to give Parker her walking papers. The love affair is OVER.

It’s time for the divorce. She can have the house, the money and the car.

We are keeping Palin.

Not Conservative
Mrs. Parker is not a conservative. Period.

She must be getting a "tingling feeling up the back of her leg."

Why is she still on the townhall website?

I Know,
Kathleen sees her column here as a Karmic justice for Town Hall.

Do Unto Others
My goodness, Kathleen, I agree with Aniko that you're in danger of karmic justice coming back to bite you if you're not careful. Your comments about Cheney in the wheelchair are really low. Have you already tired of bashing Sarah Palin? I really hate the turn your columns have taken since last fall, because you've always seemed like a decent, even-handed person. You can still be critical without being mean. I'd like to see the old Kathleen back rather than a gradual transformation into Arianna Huffington.

Re: Karmic justice?
If you are a beleiver of that, I wonder when and in what form will yours will come? Gleefully mentioning Dick Chenney's wheelchair appearance will bring your karmic justice!
And regarding your Global Warming hypothesis, I live in NJ and since October I spent over 500 dollars on my heating bill (my home is under 500 sq. ft.!)and didn't feel any of it. I would have considered it a blessing.
Liberals have only college degrees and no common sense.

KP- YOU Do Unto Others....
Just STFU!

bc3:
"Where Were You?
Kathleen -

Where were you at Obama's dinner with "conservative" columnists? Under the table?"

bc3: No. KP wasn't drunk "under the table" she was in the kitchen drunk doing KP duty.

Only a dimwit could voice this drivel!
Karma? 'Boogy Man" Cheney? Apparently Ms. Parker has been attending all the "left" cocktail parties.

Will apologies be forthcoming from her when Obama, like Judas, does what he must inevitably do? Liberty has been our political savior since the founding. Obama means to destroy it. He has already, only 3 days into his presidency, warned his democrat colleague that they "may lose seats" and he may lose his re-election if they don't get the "stimulus" bill passed. The exact opposite of our previous president who couldn't give a flying you-know-what about polls and elections. Even our rino candidate in the last election showed great nobility on this point regarding the surge. Now we've got an unabashedly cynical politician in the nation's White House. God help us!

Dick Cheney
It was unnerving to see Dick Cheney in a wheelchair during the inaguration. I thought it was symbolic of the decline of the recent fortunes of the Republican Party. Dick Cheney will get out of the wheelchair and he will be fine. I don't know about the Republican Party.

Cognitive Disonance
Mrs.Parker admonshes Christians in one article to keep their faith at home and hide it from public view but then writes another repleat with Buddism.

We have found a new poster child for the cognitively disonant.

Dusty
are you saying TH is not enlightened?

Conclusion
I have now concluded that most of the "conservatives" who post here are morons, afraid to see a slightly different point of view. Wonder why you have lost the WH, Senate and House? Look no further than your own retarded opinions (with all due respect to the retarded). And I'm a conservative.

KP Throw Away Your Wrist Watch
Another brilliant article...you should go home and DO some KP. Go ahead while your at it and throw away your wrist watch...there's a clock on the stove.

When will TH dump Parker?!
Another Kathleen Parker column, another set of slams on conservatives and praise of the new Marxist president. Ho-hum...

Where Were You?
Kathleen -

Where were you at Obama's dinner with "conservative" columnists? Under the table?

Come on Kathleen
“May good karma be with him.”

Why would you say something line that? The karma is his own, isn’t it, according to you? So what does you mean? Wouldn’t you rather look at the way he treated Bush as to what he would receive? Perfect justice? This is your standard.

So how can you merely wish some good karma on someone, if it has little to do with you in the first place. But maybe you are worried about your karma, not his. So you seem to be using some political correctness for karma. On the other hand, Bush was more than gracious to him at every opportunity he had. But even in Obama’s speech he sounds only critical of Bush.

Karmic justice?
That sounds kinda hoogity boogity to me.

In sync
Don’t stop yet, Kathleen. What do you make of Kennedy's Karmic aura in the seizure? You suppose that was Ted’s comeuppance -- Chappaquiddick creating neurological turbulence maybe? Just saying, you might have briefed us on that karmic reading.

Ode to Kathleen
Well, Kathleen, now that the curtain has come fully down: we know that because only liberals can resort to personal issues about a person in a wheelchair and get away with it – long as he is a Republican. (need examples?)

For Liberals, it is so easy and acceptable to launch attacks on personal issues that they're hardly aware of doing it -- spontaneously. It sears the conscience after a while. Yet to remark about a black liberal candidate in anyway draws their preemptive “racist” criticism.

Have you figured all this out already, Kathleen? Then you should soon be graduating cuma laude, or magna cuma Proud, from the school of Liberalism. Then again, this was probably your dissertation.

Political Karma ....
or the devil made them do it? If that were true, we'd never again elect a Democrat.

OK, that would be a GOOD thing.

And the hypocrite of the month award...
"Does this woman even know the whole golden rule? What a witch!"

No further comment needed. The hysteria is obvious. Thanks for a much-needed belly laugh.

An Idiot Premise
Ms. Parker, unless you've got enough for everyone, stay off the bongwater. Your argument for "karma" here doesn't pass the sniff test.

Perhaps you should reexamine your values and your party affiliation, Norma Rae (they like me, they like me!). Tossing off mindless stuff such as this at the last minute won't win you any Democrat friends. Just ask John McCain.

The Best Article
It's a four-way tie: Krauthammer, Buchanan, Gerson and Parker.

Actually, this one has the deepest spiritual truth, the only reliable spiritual truth. The only one to say it better was John Lennon in the best song he ever wrote, "Instant Karma."

As Lennon shouts out in this awe-inspiring "rock" song: "It's gonna hit you right in the face." Like pellets from a shot gun (those words not in the song).

And, like shakespeare before him: "pretty soon you're gonna be dead." (Interpretation: 100% mortality rate.)

"Who on earth do you think you are? A superstar? Well, right you are!...Well we all shine on, like the moon...and the stars...and the sun. Yea we all shine on! Everyone...Come on!"

We are indeed "everywhere." And we are indeed "gonna get our share" (he means, what we've got coming to us!)

Finally, in this magnificent rock song, the great Lennon invites us all "to join the human race." Not bad lyrics, very incisive with not a word wasted. Not bad for a "working class hero" (by the way, the title of his second best song).

John Lennon, a folk-genius, understood about Karma, perhaps most painfully at the moment of his own terrible death. Actually, for John, it was "death."

Now, Kathleen, What did you think about Dr. Sharon E. Watkins's homily? I thought it rocked!

Karma Shmarma
Does this woman even know the whole golden rule? What a witch! And it is people like her in the Republican party that are driving conservatives 'into the Wilderness'. Let's just see how many elections these 'elite' Republicans can win without the base. Join the Democrat party, Ms. Parker, since you think so unhighly of true conservatives. Good riddance!

remove parker the idiot
she thinks so highly of herself ....her arrogance is nauseating....pitiful, pathetic and unwanted. PLEASE remove parker ....real name is kathy cleveland....from townhall...

her writing is an insult to people with intelligence

"Do Unto Others" Question...

What does 279 days mean to Barack?

Karma indeed
The reference to Cheney in a wheelchair was just plain mean, in all senses. Some columns, you break the keyboard after you write them lest it be demeaned by being put to a lesser use. In this case, breaking the keyboard BEFORE this column was written would have been the wisest course. Never complete a sentence in Spanish that begins with "su madre" and never mock anyone for being in a wheelchair.

Karly
Obama may be human and incapable of perfection as we all are, but he is also tainted. At the end of the year, I wonder how many mistakes will add up to an America that is on its knees but not in worship of the Grand Master.

Karma
The incivility towards Bush at the Inaugural festivities was not karma, but poor manners. The sight of Cheney in a wheelchair was not karma but the result of a physical ailment. Was it Roosevelt's karma to be in a wheelchair? What heinous deeds caused him to be so afflicted? Bad juju is not always confined to losers. Bad manners is usually a manifestation of poor winners however...Judy

Obama's double standard.
"Obama didn't use the precise words, but he implied in his inaugural address that our current crises are karmic justice for decades of self-indulgence, greed and irresponsibility. It's not that we necessarily deserve a collapsed economy, two wars and a warming planet, but we can't place all the blame elsewhere."

'Course the 170 million dollars spent on the emperor isn't self indulgence? What a scmuck!

Dissenting opinion...
... on a conservative website. Hm. See, I figure I listen to the dissenting opinion enough already in my newspapers and news shows. I see dissenting opinion run rampant in all the trolls' posts to conservative websites.

I can get the dissenting opinion shoved down my throat all day, every day. I come here to balance the dissent with people that speak to conservative values. So I ask you, TH, WHY Ms Parker is employed by a conservative website... not a varying views website?

Did Pres. Bush make mistakes? Yes. He's human. And guess what? I know this will be a shock to the likes of Ms Parker, but hear me out... SO IS OBAMA!

And by the way, if there really is this karma thing... then maybe the Dems are shaking in their Choos at the thought that the unfounded hatred and bile they have dished out for the past 8 years at Bush is headed right back at them! Because they deserve it.

Hey... maybe Ms Parker just can't come up with something to write about. Here's some suggestions: Barney Frank, Geitner, Holder, "Transparency," $300M for birth control and abortions, $825B SO FAR in a "stimulous" package... come on!!!

Are the only songs you know Obama keister-kissers and Palin-bashers?

Clap, clap, clap,
that was beautiful, KP, I almost shed a tear.
Lets see, Obama caps the white house staffers pay, but we won't see Obama or Biden leading by example, sacificing, and taking a pay cut, which they could, JFK did. No, that is only for you and I.
He hires a guy to run the IRS, that didn't even get penalized for not paying his taxes for 5 years. Can we expect the same?
He hires "Milli Vanilli" to play at the inauguration. I threw that one in just for giggles. He pulled one over on us.
Obama thinks it is great to abort children, they are "punishments" but lets don't discomfort those cut throat terrorists, let's just let them go. How bout in Washington, D.C.? (The Dalai Lama has said it is difficult dealing with terrorists with non violence. and he also said he loves George Bush.) why he must be a right wing nut job!!! Also Alveda King, niece of MLK says abortion is akin to slavery: that every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his/her mother. In the hands of the mother is the fate of that child-whether that child lives or dies. Yes, my dear KP, you are so right, what goes around does come around. God did say, "For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" Yes, God said it first, before Obama.

"The Axis of Evil"...

Do unto to others?

Let us not forget that Bush - alone in the world - spoke to the unimaginable torture occurring in the dungeons run by these cruel Axis governments.

Obama in contrast, will speak not to the tortured, but instead to the dungeon masters - turning a blind eye to their cruelty.

Obama will do unto himself. And choose, as Kathleen has, to ignore the suffering of those who can only wish they were affected by a popular virus.

nomo
Of course Townhall must be just as afraid of dissenting opinion as the enlightened.

KP speaks the truth
and TH has not stopped publishing her -- small wonders never cease.

Conservative Rep
Our local newspaper actually carries this woman's column as a token conservative...out here in Kansas, we would say she's dumber than an old mud fencepost...

not the whole truth
'Obama recalled earlier generations that "faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions."'

True, but not the whole truth. The Western Allies faced down Nazi Germany by forging an alliance with Communist Russia. Stalin might have been more pliable in Yalta had a third bomb taken out, say, Moscow or Stalingrad.

Please take your rightful place
At the New York Times that is... To put it as bluntly as possible YOU SUCK ma'am. From the election to the inauguration, you have moved progressively, (Yes, Pun Meant) left. Then go and DLTDHYONWO

What a vacuous little twunt you are!
You are so wrong as you spout off about GW's missteps. I hope the next islamofascist attacks finds you close by so you can give us your first hand perspective.

Kathleen Parker
And this woman is a conservative? Surely you jest.

Parker writes much...
...about a whole lot of nothing. And after a couple years of Barney Fife in the Oval Office, she'll wish we had back Bush, Cheney...and his wheelchair.

Hiding behind Karma
"To the extent that our physical ailments reflect our interior lives,..." Well, geez, I guess I must be a real SOB since I have been in a wheelchair for the last 20 years. Ms. Parker's Karma just indicted thousands of handicapped people throughout the world. Using her logic I guess we just line all of us Karma afflicted people up and shoot us.

If she is so insistent on dissing people I would suggest using facts and figures rather than something she has no clue about. Ms. Parker - instead of trying to be so cutesy, just come out and say you thought Dick Cheney was (fill in the blank) and have done with it.

So I'll just come out with it - Ms. Parker - you are an - well I find the word police won't let me say what I think - but you are one!

Ms Parker:

You really should consider getting yourself an accountability partner; someone who might otherwise prevent you from submitting columns like this one.

In the meantime, repeat the following to yourself “Must not moralize, must not moralize…” No, seriously, I mean it… Think, Pat Robertson. Although your twaddle will be far less disseminated, do you somehow imagine your sermonizing to be any less imperious?

One star but only because zero or less is not an option.

Stacey
"Isn't that market-driven Capitalism at its finest?"
----------
"The good, the bad and the ugly" are all part of the equation it seems.

MyMan Jones
The numbers are very depressing. The "stimulus" portion of the bill comes to less than $50 billion of the total $850 billion -the remainder is liberal constituency building. We are about to borrow perhaps $1 trillion for absolutely nothing. Heck, we still haven't gone through the remainder of the $250 billion 2006 Transportation Bill.

Funny how Parker is oblivious to all of this. Sounds like she has a real crush on our prez.

Parker's Transition Is Almost Complete
She joins Frum, Noonan, Brock, et als in jumping ship. However a few points:

1)It was the media which refused to mention his middle name which started this all. I don't think many in the GOP could care a wit if his middle name was Abdul or Ataturk. Now that race isn't an issue, it is time for Strawmen.

2)Nice job in belittling Cheney. Like Joe Wilson, you obsess over this man. It is more likely than Cheney's influence with Bush has been on the downside at least since 2004, probably before. Rumsfeld, Card, Rove, and Rice had more influence on his policies.

3)Your self loathing comes out when you agree that the US is a big fat, worthless nation who just consume resources at the expense of the enviorment and others. I'm not fooled in the least bit by your hat tip to Bush in dealing Sudan and Africa.

4)Good luck in joining the MSM in covering for President Obama. You will have you work cut out for you. I don't suppose you will last even at Townhall. Newspaper and magazine gigs will be hard to come by. You sucked at the bosom of the GOP for a long time, and it's been a good financial ride for you. I would not be suprised that you and Noonan will tire of Obama, but I could be wrong.

To WesternBondbeam
"Although, if this works for her, what's to keep other columnists from doing the same? Certainly not all are fame driven but if it gets their numbers up, whats to keep them from doing the same ...At some point the whole site becomes a breeding ground for middle roaders and conservatives slowly leave for greener pastures."

Isn't that market-driven Capitalism at its finest?

Converse College
Parker attended Converse College. Converse College! Wow. Not Carolina, Agnes Scott, Davidson or Duke. Maybe she's overcompensating.

Stacey-Check out one of Wirs
columns if you really want to get a taste of what he was about.

townhall.com/columnists/PeterJWirs/2008/07/03/meade_triumphantly_crushes_lee

Ms Parker
Give it up - nobody wants to read you. I was looking for Star.

Stacey
"Other columnists here at TH are just dribble. I don't read them. I probably wouldn't even read Parker (most of her posts are dribble too), but she causes so much excitement it is sort of my forbidden vice to tune in. (I don't watch much TV)."
---------
Maybe Parker is indeed trying to break out from the pack to make a name for herself. At any rate, I think you nailed it. People show up to see what dribble she puts forth and they also feel free to tell her so. I admit that was my original draw to Wirs column.

Although, if this works for her, what's to keep other columnists from doing the same? Certainly not all are fame driven but if it gets their numbers up, whats to keep them from doing the same (those with less integrity that is). Medved comes to mind for some reason.

At some point the whole site becomes a breeding ground for middle roaders (sorry Mod Mark) and conservatives slowly leave for greener pastures.
They all have a voice, we just don't necessarily have to agree with the voice and this site allows us genuine freedom to express our views (TH censorship aside that is). Sometimes the best reads are the ones we disagree with, and the fun part is expressing our disagreement in this forum.

To Stacey
I don't care much for Parker (haven't read a single column from her), but I love reading the comments by irate people who hate her guts and the obvious trolls ie., Jamal (who cuts & pastes the same lines, also notice that his name seems Muslim as well just to incite people meanwhile he's probably caucasion) who pretend to like her and provoke the other side to make a response. It's like seeing a good ole flame brawl. It's quite entertaining and some of the comments are hilarious but are mostly taken off because some people go a little too far in their hatred. I believe if people stopped reading her column or even clicking on it then TH will drop her. TH knows they've got a cash cow (pun intended) by all the hits she gets and maybe that was the purpose from the start. Like Ann Coulter says, "Nobody has ever heard of THE Kathleen Parker until she started bashing Palin."

To WesternBondbeam
"And Waterhead was consistently in the triple digits in postings as well. TH still booted him."

You may be correct, but I still can't figure out why people who detest a writer so much still visit the site. Just to let everyone know how much they dislike her? Do people really care about such things?
Other columnists here at TH are just dribble. I don't read them. I probably wouldn't even read Parker (most of her posts are dribble too), but she causes so much excitement it is sort of my forbidden vice to tune in. (I don't watch much TV).

CVN65
Howdy Ho neighbor. I was never much of a reader of KP before or now but do recall her taking on women for those reasons you state.

Assemble the troops? I would be up for that. Like you say, she really has not much conservative left in her and it does appear she is striving to simply write columns er clums (ha ha, remember that one?) that are designed to stick the fork in conservatives eyes.

I am amazed she gets a single check every time. We tried like mad to get Waterhead's clum that low but could never pull it off. We were sure the scoring system was rigged but KP shoots that theory down the tubes.

Kim
I, too, thought that Jamal's post was both perpippity and skrunkcious!

Western Bondbeam
Hello fellow Wirs-basher! I used to read KP because it is always interseting to hear a woman take other women to task for the abysmal treatment of husbands/fathers in this country. I sort of stopped agreeing with her when she started ripping Palin but, after this adulation of "The One", she is definitely NOT a conservative. I had to check that I had not logged onto HuffPO by mistake! Perhaps we can assemble the troops together again, regularly, to protest the decidedly un-conservative tone of KP's articles. I don't intend to silence her but she should post elsewhere.

jerabaub
I did read KP's whole column and it was crappy as usual.

on the other hand was a good read. I do not agree with it all, but I did like your post way more than her column.

HEY! Jamal got a new thesaurus!
Trying to use $5 words in your post was like putting "lipstick on a pig."

Howdy Mark
I really have no problem with TH keeping KayPee on board. I can see giving her a 5 star out of spite to other posters. Many did the same thing with PJ Wirs columns. No matter how hard we tried, we seldom got his down to 1 due to all those McCainiacs sticking up for Wirs.

While KP has few sticking up for her, many more need to vote to get this thing up to a 2 or 3.

if
there were even karma, it wouldn't be good for Obama

MALTESE POODLE IS MAD!
THE LITTLE DOG BITES THE FRENCH PRESIDENT FOR READING KATHLEEN PARKER ARTICLES OUT LOUD!

Why is this sad excuse
for a journalist still writing for Townhall?

What a truly vile human being
Sure physical injury is karmic payback. Every cancer victim has earned it. ESAD, you hag.

Real karmic justice is all the hatred the cow put out toward Sarah Palin, rebounded and destroying this disgusting piece of filth's career.

TownHall, have you no decency? Why do you continue to publish this trash.

kathleen has lost it!
why all the karma talk!???have you been on the phone with oprah?are you saying if someone is in a wheel chair they have been judged!what kind of books are you reading??know we know the rest of the story,MALTESE POODLE BITES FRENCH PRESIDENT,AS HE READS A ARTICLE OUT LOUD BY KATHLEEN PARKER!NOW THE LITTLE DOG IS VERY DEPRESSED!KATHLEEN PARKER THE NEW SHIRLEY MCCLAIN!

Kathleen Parker, "I'm a Republican, Too"
My understanding of the origin of the Republican Party is that it was formed to deal with the moral issue of its day - slavery, which the Whig party refused to touch.

Now there's the "I'm a Republican, Too" wing of the Republican Party, which refuses to deal with the moral issues of its day - abortion, euthanasia, and rampant sexual immorality.

The "I'm a Republican, Too" wing of the party calls the other wing the "ooogety, boogety" wing. Well, Ms. Parker, when social issues were stressed instead of buried, as with the last campaign, Republicans won! By the way, the social issues won in every state where they've been left up to the public to vote upon, save one, and including California!

"I'm a Republican, Too?" I think not. You're, as the "oogety, boogety" wing says, a R.I.N.O.

Oh poor Kathleen
I do wonder if she is dealing with past abortions?? She always has a guilt edged, sarcastic yet type of sadness to whatever she is writing about. It seems to me that there is something lurking beneath the surface. She needs prayers.

If as parker says
what goes around comes around and we are looking at krama justice. obaman better worry give his racisit attacks on good hard working common taxpayers. Wonder what krama will say about an admin that is full of the most corrupt people this nation has seen since LBJ was president?

Stacey Pt 2
And Waterhead was consistently in the triple digits in postings as well. TH still booted him.

As for KP, I am not convinced she is a moneymaker for TH but thats just me. Maybe her ad pages get clicked a lot and that might be a determining factor for keeping columnists on board as well.

Melissa
Hitting the "submit" button fifteen times doesn't make your post sensible, it only makes it appear more often.
To "a", you forgot the last two letters of your name, they are "s" and "s'.
Deano, "spot on"
To KP, Why are you still here?

Hey Madam Parker
In case you didn't take Civics 101 or Government 101 I'd like to enlighten you. OBAMA IS NOT THE LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD!!!!!!

Leaders are the mark of monarchies, democracies, and despots. The democratic REPUBLIC of the U.S. was designed to insure that we had no leaders---just representatives of the People. The President is nothing more than the nation's "top cop" sworn to "defend the Constitution" and NOT THE COUNTRY, except by way of veto of any and all bills coming before him that do not conform to the Constitution. As far as karma goes, what have you got to say about a campaign that forbid ANY mention of race as petty, vile, small-minded, and not PC, contrasted by the blatant display of racism towards the multitudes of whites who elected this man at the inauguration? I hope this karma bites him and his supporters in the a$$! By the way, are you EVER going to write something of substance here? I'm not sure you could give a well-reasoned argument to a 5 year old. Kharma indeed!

Same old story.
Another TH article fails to label Obama as the antichrist, & it's writter is execrated. Typically truculent comments (Manuel), laced with equally plebeian language (Emmet) become the rule of the day. More myopy, same tribalism. If THIS is the best conservatives have to offer, the liberals needn't worry. They'll be celebrating inaugurations for the forseeable future.

Success or Failure
One cannot wish that Obama and the United States both will succeed. They are mutually exclusive ideas. I want the U.S. to be successful which means I have to hope Obama fails miserably.

Stacey
I assume KP is still under contract with TH. I don't know that for sure but who knows. My guess is they will look long and hard to keep her come contract time. She constistenly gets a single checkmark (check her archives) and thats tough to do unless every single reader posts a single.

I am not a regular on KP column but when I do read her, it seems she actually is trying to get a low score on purpose.

My reference to Waterhead goes to PJ Wirs column (still archived on TH) but he is no longer a columnist here. Waterhead was a name posters came up with for Wirs. I admit I was a regular on his column in an effort to get him removed. The official story from TH on Wirs was contract dispute but it turns out he was a con-man. He claimed to be President of some GOP think tank and was collecting money on behalf of GOP but doubtful much ended up helping GOP. Records indicated that he served time in jail for previous offenses of fraud in the Philly area.

The regulars were organized at bashing Wirs, the casual poster, didn't know what was going on so many would stick up for him, (getting caught in the crosshairs of regular Wirs Bashers)

With KP though, few if any like what she actually has to say. How else does she keep getting a single checkmark? As bad as Wirs was, we seldom got his column down to a single check mark. With KP, people just don't agree with her on much of anything.

Slowly, but surely
Slowly, but surely, KP moves across the spectrum to my side. I don't mind conservatives having a change of heart and developing greater cognitive powers, but I'm puzzled about why she still appears on TH. Have you no quality control at all?

On Parker
She's always been a lib writer who occasionally makes sense.

There's room at TH for these types. DailyKos, HuffP, etc would never publish a conservative writer who occasionally agrees w/ their point a view.

Bully TH!

Every once in a while...
Every few weeks, I read a Parker column, hoping for a little insight. I never find it.

Consider
Kathleen, be careful how you dispense "karmic justice."

You may find yourself in the company of those such as the hateful Kansas church who believe that American troop deaths were punishment (or Karma, if you will) for America's tolerance of homosexuality.

Or you could put you in the camp of those such as Obama's mentor, Jeremiah Wright, who believed that 9/11 was payback for our foreign policy sins, "America's chickens coming home to roost."

It appears that some people are too quick to attribute a misfortune of someone they hate as payback for a deed they personally disapprove of. I wonder if this sort of judgmental schaudenfreude opens one up to a karmic recompense of one's own?

Stupid
Stupid article - enough of Parker - send her to the liberal camp asap.

one very good point
Parker deserves some credit for highlighting the difference between using Obama's middle name out of respect, and using it to appeal to xenophobia.

The comment about Cheney was a bit of a cheap shot. I bow to noone in how much damage I think Cheney has done to the country. But being in a wheelchair due to a backache is hardly related to any of the policy things he did. Nor should we think of such things as punishent.

Kathleen Puker
Maybe it's time for this Peggy Noonan CLONE, to find another gig. Maybe the Huffington Post, or the Daily Koz.

John
So maybe there IS something to this karma stuff!

Kim
I think the cause of being exposed to Parker is related to your decision to read her column.

Just speculating

Are you SERIOUS!?!
If I actually believed in karma, I would now be racking my brain to recall what mindless nonsence I may have previously uttered to deserve being subjected to the absurd commentary of Kathleen Parker.

ridiculous
I only opened this column to protest again your inclusion of Kathleen Parker. In what way is she a conservative? Why would you go on printing her columns? I won't be reading her again.

terry
sarcasm. i would never ever listen to these three (rush, ann and sean) in my life. i am tring to make a point of how stupid these poeple are reacting to KP. do you think i would ever be in the same mind frame as THE PRO FROM DENVER or the more then half of the people who write or blog here.

To WesternBondbeam, Freerider, leishman
I am surprised (especially you WesternBB)you have not figured out WHY KP is still here at TH.
Town Hall is a business.
Before the dramatic turn in 'checkmarks', KP's response numbers were very erratic, mostly in the double digits. She was one among many conservative writers here at TH. As we all know, for every poster there are probably 4 or 5 who read but do not post.
Now that she is down to one checkmark, her response numbers are usually triple digit.
Where she was once "one among many", she has found her own little niche.
Posters (plus the 4 or 5 who don't post) now read her just to see how 'bad' she is and to give her that one little check mark.
If you really don't want her on TH anymore (like what? she's taken up column width from a more conservative writer?), then stop reading her column, stop posting. Make her that non-entity she was BEFORE she became so controversial.
Frankly, I am surprised at the number of people who still pop in here to see what she says. There are other columnists on TH that I feel are a waste of space. I skip their columns. Don't even read them. Don't post. They may have 4 or 5 checkmarks but they have one less reader of their column. Which do you think is more important to them?

The Official hatemonger of
You have to be the official hate monger of the Obamamnation. He must send you notes of racism, oppression, bigotry, and hate.Your column is a reason alone to leave this country for the next three years.

2 more cents
Melissa - you forgot to take your meds

you Kathleen haters - if you weren't so pathetic you would be funny

Kathleen - you ROCK

You're wasting your time....
....Mizzzz Parker.

Trying to endear yourself to the left won't work because they do not reward loyalty. Liberals have not a single noble bone in their collective bodies. In short, the obama administration won't have room for you, no matter how low you bow.

Then again, you may be used by them in the future in some recreational sort of way.

The dems already have a mindless following among the dependent classes of people; blacks and browns, and in the latter, illegal aboriginals will grovel before obama in drunken glee as they bleed our social service network dry and destroy communities. And the serf population among the hispanics has just begun to grow.

So, in ghetto-speak; "Don't even try it, Miz Parker".

my 2 cents
It seems to me that in any discussion about why the rest of the world is so unhappy with us, the left proceeds from the premise that it is OUR fault, and we on the right absolutely reject that.

Just a thought

what goes around...
Kathleen, Dick Cheney has served out country for years with dignity and respect. Your comments regarding his back problems remind me of the vile and bitter venom thrown at Rush Limbaugh when he lost his hearing. The left exposed themselves as the hatemongers they accuse the conservatives of being. But, when Ted (the swimmer) Kennedy had his diagnosis, nothing but kind words of condolance and support came from those who have values, and truly do cherish life.

I wonder what underlying mentality you have to stoop to the very tactics and mind set of the left in this attack on such a great man as Cheney? Had Bush followed his advice, his legacy would not have been the one of failure after set back.

KP's bloviations remain mindless
I had decided not to read Ms. Parker’s banalities any more, but unwisely decided to try again—my mistake. Since Ms. Parker decided to expatiate about “karma”, I would wonder about the return on Pres. Obama’s karma regarding fundraising—e.g., reversing his pledge on public funding, or receiving donations by credit card after turning off the security/validation step in payment processing, resulting in so many untraceable funds. I would wonder about Pres. Obama’s karma after associating with Rev. Wright, Mr. Rezko, Mr. Ayers, and others. I would wonder about his karma after his designation of his grandmother as racist. Ms. Parker—would you consider removing your blinders?

melissa
A little TTHHIICCKKK don't you think?

Another Liberal Clown Heard From
Yup, we should all feel secure that another pacifist administration is in the White House!

Joe "Loose cannon" Biden cautioned America: "Someone's gonna test this guy within 6 months." If it happens, they will threaten to sue them if they ever attack America again, just as they did after the 1993 WTC bombing.

I know that I'll sleep better!

All right townhall...
you took down my last post -- the one I put up after KP's column in praise of big government -- presumably because someone flagged it as offensive. I used a word in the post that some would consider offensive, although I applied a fig leaf, so to speak, in the form of strategically placed asterisks.

So, here was my point. Kathleen Parker is not a conservative. Regardless of what she wrote in the past, she is not a conservative now, not in any respect. She supports higher taxes and big government. She is "pro-choice". She hates religious conservatives. She spent most of the election cycle alternately trashing Sarah Palin and her own readers. And her expressed feelings toward Barack Obama are those of a middle-schooler having her first crush.

The problem with townhall.com continuing her column is not that we regular TH readers have to read her column. I usually don't. The problem is the credibility her column's appearance here gives her. A lot of liberal newspapers carry KP's column on their op-ed pages. She's their token conservative; her column allows them to claim they are presenting the "other side". But they can only do that as long as conservative publications and organizations (like TH) continue to provide her with a platform.

Frankly, I only agree with about half the stuff I read in TH, anyway. I'm a libertarian, not a conservative -- and DEFINITELY not a neocon. But in KP's columns, it has been a long, long time since I have found anything with which I can agree.

freerider

KayPee
TH's least favorite conservative wannabe is still at it it seems. Not only is she going for the record for most single check marked columns, but seems to enjoy pouring salt into wounded conservatives at the same time.

Brings back memories of old Waterhead that got booted off TH last summer. Maybe KayPee can be the new Waterhead.

all the TRUE CONSERVATIVES
To all who now hate KP. you all have the right idea. lets all wish, and pray everynight that pres BO fails. lets wish that america gets wrost shape. that people keep losing their jobs and homes, that will show these none americans including KP thats what happens when people don't vote republican. we need to continue to listen to rush, ann, and sean's POSITIVE message. they will lead the way to greatness. KP negative message of unity is a discussting example of what the left is. rush is right BO and america should fail.

If what goes around comes around
The Liberals have a BIG shiteburger headed their way for their treatment of President Bush.

Here is your karma
Let's not be so hard on Ms. Parker. She is just another charter member of the Liberal Apologists club, you know, the club that includes the likes of Maureen Dowd, the entire news staffs of NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and ABC (all of whom sold out their professions and now are viewed just above used car sales people on the credibility scale), the jokers at Moveon.org and the idiot staff at Media Matters, just to highlight a few.

Now, as for the "youthful Obama" comment; He chose an old guy for his running mate, but John McCain, another old guy, chose a youthful Sarah Palin as his running mate, wasn't OK. As a veteran, in the event the President could not perform his duties for any reason, I would much rather have her at the helm than a loose cannon like Joe Biden!

Yup, you Liberal clowns have collectively lowered yourselves to the level of grade school children; "it's wrong if someone else does it, but it's OK for us to do it!"

Parker
You really need to stay away from he Kool-Aid pitcher.
Since we are talking metaphysical (Karma), it would be interesting to see if the dead from 911 could come back to life for just one day and each was provided a fully loaded handgun. How many of you Volvo drivers would be alive tomorrow.

You mentioned a "warming planet", Maybe all this snow and ice is Karmic.

Well, like I said you need to stay away from the Kool-Aid pitcher.

LOL... Silly Little Woman

Kathleen is on the wrong site!
Time to get on over to the Daily Kos...

Dave
Illinois

Regular reminder
Back on 9/19/07, KP typed, "Confession: I love Barack Obama…. I love Obama for his style, grace, intellect and his way with words. I want the healing power that an Obama presidency could deliver to this country."

I just drop in every so often to remind people, she sold out before THE Inauguration (as it must now be referred to, world without end, amen)

Deep End
This woman has gone off the deep end. Get her out of here, please

Parker
Will the editors of Townhall tear up the contract with Kathleen Parker, PLEASE!! The woman is not conservative, and is as much at home here as an abortionist in a convent.

Unsubscribe TH until Parker is removed!
It's time for TH readers to unsubscribe! Parker's space is not for liberals it's for conservatives. I read TH for conservative commentary. If I wanted a Katie Couric-type, sophomoric liberal outlook on life, I'd tune into Katie Couric. I read TH to get away from that off-the-cuff emotional reaction passed off as thought.

Christi
I guess Townhall is keeping Parker on due to the forthcoming passing of the Fairness Doctrine Act (psst...TH, it only applies to holders of broadcast licenses - I don't think you guys have to comply).

I usually only read the first paragraph of her dribble and then go straight to the comments section (not sure why I bother – I guess it’s a bit like a train wreck). The only reason this journalist's worthless dribble has more than one star is because of the 5 star votes she receives from her liberal minions that toast her words with their Kool-aid.

Don't forget to throw shoes...
"It was wholly karmic that those who have been hissing "Hussein" as though it were a profane indictment of Obama's patriotism should have to hear it pronounced with dignity and respect in the presence of a largely approving world."

Actually, Kitty, what you heard was massed, ululating cheers over the name "Hussein" from the streets of Gaza, Tehran, Damascus, etc.

just a little thought
Ms. Parker mentioned barack's saying we will lead again, while surely something that's inspiring and noble too often it is forgotten that we don't need to lead, we need to govern. "To lead" implies that we are going to do something beyond the scope of the Constitution, to go outside of our sovereign borders, and exercise powers that have not been granted. Yes to a strong military (Common Defense), but world changing? Is that really why the Constitution is in place? Almost to a man the Founding Fathers were averse to being involved in foreign affairs.

Parker
Go away. Just go away.

Do Unto Others
AFLAC DUCK CALLS FOR BARACK OBAMA'S ARREST? Read it at, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/

Stupid is ...
... as stupid does. And the Dems were pretty stupid in their treatment of President Bush o Jan. 20, 2009.

But, if libs like Parker want us to "Do Unto Them As They Did Unto Others" then we must be ready to sing "Hey, Hey, Good-bye" when we vote the current President out of office in 2012 after he has wrecked our economy and given the terrorists every chance in the world to re-arm and regroup.

Yep, karma will be a big b!tch then.

Reveling in the former
Vice President's health problems should definately bring you good karma Kathleen...

As to how President Bush looked next to Obama --well he is 15 years older and has led the country for 8 years through two wars. Let's see how Obama loos in 4 to 8 years. All presidents age quicky in office. Have you forgotten how bad Carter, a relatively young president, looked after just 4 years?

A warming planet?
I wish....
Is coolaid the only drink served where Parker lives?

Irony and hubris
Well, this was certainly an (I am certain) unintentionally ironic treatment of the idea of karma, given the writer's Hera-like shrillness in attacking a younger, attractive woman who upheld many of the social conservative ideals the author so readily dismisses.

For those of you who blithely compliment Ms. Parker on her clumsy attempts at analyzing the apparent failure of the conservative movement, I caution you. You may recall, in the not so distant past, talk of a permanent GOP majority. That was hubris.

Already, I see overconfidence from the left, and from the same Vichy Republicans who disdained Sarah Palin as a lightweight. I challenge you to read her state of the State address from last night. That is not the work of the sort of oogedy-boogedy snakehandling whacko conjured up by the likes of Kathleen Parker.

And by the way,Ms Parker...
...if George W Bush's middle name was "Doofus",do you think his political enemies would not be using it?Would the press,of which you are a member,be using it every chance they get?

I rest my case.

Preaching Karma?
Isn't that a Buddhist philosophy?

This from Kathleen Parker is no surprise.
Her praise of Obama is no surprise.
Her dissing of President Bush is no surprise.
If she wrote for the Daily Kos or the Huffington Post it would be no surprise.

What is a continuing surprise is the folks at Townhall continue to post ANY of her articles. I haven't seen her recieve more than one star since suggesting Palin should get off the ticket. That was 6 months ago.

So my question to those who run Townhall is simple, why is she still placing columns in Townhall?

Dear Ms Parker...
..."I mention his middle name only because Chief Justice John Roberts did during this week's swearing-in ceremony, a proper time for proper names. It was wholly karmic that those who have been hissing "Hussein" as though it were a profane indictment of Obama's patriotism should have to hear it pronounced with dignity and respect in the presence of a largely approving world."

The Chief Justice used his middle name BECAUSE Obama stated before his swearing-in that he wanted "Husien" to be part of his official name! His political enemies (I am one) used his middle name because ...well.. THAT'S HIS NAME!

Obama is a Harvard law school graduate. He has always known how to change his name in a court of law if he WANTED to do so.He never did!So what is the problem with both his political enemies and political friends USING his his GIVEN name?

If he is not ashamed to use it,why should I be ashamed to use it?Hel-,even the Chief Justice of the United States uses it!

Karma
Ms. Parker should heed her own words about bad Karma... I log onto Townhall to read CONSERVATIVE writers. I get enough of the other side from NBC, CNN, ABC, CBS and most of the print media! While Bush was never my idea of a great president, he did nothing to instill the irrational hatred he received from the Democratic party and the left from Day One. They digressed into accusing lunitics, making up ridiculous lies about 9/11 and painting Chaney as an evil monster. Comparing Bushes aged face to Obama's was a cheap shot. I'd like to compare Parker to Palin in daylight.

I had stopped reading Parkers dribble but this morning thought, one more chance. After today, there won't be anymore chances. She's just another irrational and adoring fan of Obama.

As Fat Albert said
N.C.

No.Class.

How long do you think it will be until Ms. Parker and other White sycophants and hangers-on realize that no matter what they say or do, they be RACISTS by virtue of the skin into which they were born -- and Rev. Lowery and Rev. Wright and a thousand false prophets and grinning Players are really celebrating the chance to turn the USA into the ghetto hip hop slum from which they apparently cannot be removed...

Which was blatantly obvious from the look of his tacky wife whose outfit was straight out of the Rev. Cleopas church scene in The Blues Brothers. Its on YouTube. Check it out.

Kathleen's Kritical Kritters.
Methinks some droolers here would knowingly sacrifice the health our Beloved Republic if it guaranteed an Obama failed presidency.

I guess it is a matter of priorities with some.

More important to some is for Obama to fail than for the United States succeed.

What a strange brew this is..that masquerades as patriotism.

Parker is correct that Bush was anything but indifferent to the plight of the world's suffering, as his huge grants of monies to deal with aids and malaria in Africa demonstrate.

And the Left is simply wrong to conclude Bush undertook the Iraq invasion on account of oil.

That mission was idealistic, not a cynical move to acquire oil.

It was meant to usher in democracy in the Muslim world.

It was a demonstration of leftist utopianism, not traditional conservatism.

And it is for that reason that I opposed the invasion...paraphrasing LBJ about "not sending American boys to do what Iraqi boys should be doing for themselves".

It was conceived out of idealism...to bring about democracy in the Muslim world...Bush's call about the universality of liberty and freedom...and in that sense was consistent with the idealism Bush embodied on his funding to combat aids and malaria in Africa.

Neither the aids initiative in Africa nor the invasion of Iraq were born out of cynicism.

They each were born out of an idealism, even a humanitarianism.

Reality check
Has anyone else noticed that most of the commentors on Kathleen Parker's columns come here to read the comments not the columns.

This article was particularly lame but if TH really thinks her columns are popular they should at least read the comments and figure out that almost 95% of the comments are asking for Kathleen Parker to go away.

Now talk about Karma. You be getting it girl.

THAT THAT IS

Kathy, here's your Might Putty- CHEW!!
O'Vomit's idea of "infrastructure" repair is to hire thousands of indolent folk from the districts that voted most heavily for him to go from Michigan and dig ditches in Illinois and have other oxygen thieves from CA go to Illinois and fill them up again. THAT was the basis of the New Deal "work programs".

We HAVE constant daily maintenance on our bridge. Ever wonder why 30-100 year old bridges in NY City still have tolls? Why they only go UP? If the metalwork is not painted year round the bridges will corrode and collapse in short order.

THAT infrastructure is well in hand thank you President Do-Over the first Halfrican-American in the Oval Office.

ms. parker needs to find another audience. her continued bashining of all things repub. and her all hail ohohohohohbama tone to everyting she writes is disgusting. head back to your huffington post site and leave your feeble attempt at being intelligent to people with brains. you are no longer wanted ms parker.your snide comment about bush's appearance next to the BIG EARRED ONE" and cheeney being in a wheel chair is just one more attempt to bastardize what we use to call reporting and the media is not missed one bit. and your hokey little story of needing your leaders to be smarter than you thus your bashing gov. palin, i believe that is GOVENOR in front of her name with a long list of previous titles all which make you look like the biggest idiot ever we need reporters and the like to be honest and forthright with there reporting not some little back handed this is i how feel comments of how stupid you are.

Ms. Parker
I personally will not and I hope other Townhall readers will not ever forgive or forget Kathleen Parker for her betrayal of George W. Bush and the McCain/Palin ticket during the recent election. For weeks, she did everything in her power in her Townhall columns to put down the Republican Party and I for one hoped back then Townhall would fire her and still hope for that eventuality. We will not forget Ms. Parker, so just remember that! You have no class and class always tells.

Bush could have given Obama's speech.

Bush could have just as easily given Obama's speech and had more validity.

Under Bush, America did lead with integrity. The fact that France, Germany, and Russia who were heavily invested in Saddam's future while violating U.N. Sancations caused them not to follow is understandable. Presidents of other nations should do what they think is best for their country and not just follow the United States. However the rest of Europe did follow the United States. So did most of the Arab States. I doubt Obama will be able to put together a coalition of the willing to take on anything greater than a rag tag group of Mulims in Darfor.

As Obama warned that those Muslim leaders who prefer to destroy will end up on the wrong side of history, so will the Liberals who advocated not standing up to Saddam will also end up on the wrong side of history. Their indifference to the suffering of the Iraqi people and the neighboring countries he attacked will no go without some "bad Karma" projected their way.

"All that is needed for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing." I am hestitant to refer to Liberals as good men but they certainly were perfectly willing to do nothing while evil succeeded.

Karmic stupidity
enough said.

So far just so so
The job creation bill is just a spending bill giving the Dem's money they did not have to even put forth any effort. A Dem's dream. He has made no effort to compromise with working across the isle. A big disappointment. The money allocated for job creation is actually puny compared to the funds of questionable need. Shocking.
