Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON -- Sound the alarms, man the barracks, alert the producers! Barack Obama, agent of change, isn't a-changin'.

As the president-elect recycles Clintonistas for Cabinet appointments -- even considering Hillary for secretary of state and keeping Bush's defense secretary for at least another year -- conventional wise guys are wondering: Where's the change?

Perhaps we're looking for change in all the wrong places. In other ways, less apparent but of long-term importance, Obama may be the change he promised.

Setting aside the obvious -- complete sentences, free of words yet to be discovered -- he is uniquely positioned to change the world on multiple levels.

As Jeff Gedmin, president of Radio Free Europe, recently put it: Obama is a weapon of mass attraction. That attractiveness isn't just physical, but is a matter of style.

Before the harrumphers tune up, no one's arguing for style over substance, but style does matter. Style isn't just cosmetic, but has to do with the way one enters and takes a room's temperature.

Style is the instinct to swagger -- or not.

Speaking recently at the Ethics and Public Policy Center here about public diplomacy, Gedmin pointed out that George Bush's "bring 'em on" cowboy style worked for about half the American people and about 5 percent of the globe. By comparison, he said, Obama's style resonates with about 90 percent of the world.

Both Gedmin and fellow speaker Kenneth Pollack -- a Persian Gulf expert and author of "A Path Out of the Desert" -- agreed that the messenger, as well as the message, matters. How successfully the U.S. communicates its interests to the rest of the world turns in part on who is delivering the information and how the "sale" is pitched.

"Sale" gets quotation marks because, says Pollack, we need to stop thinking in terms of selling and advertising. Rather, the best marketing tool for "selling" liberal democratic values (much like religious conviction) is to by living those values rather than by preaching or trying to impose them.

Sometimes our values and interests intersect; sometimes they don't. To the extent Obama understands that concept -- and he seems to -- then he is change.

On the domestic front, what does he offer?

Again, setting aside specific policies, Obama's example could have society-altering effects, especially in the African-American community. By his example, he telegraphs the following messages: Being smart is good; education is good; being a good father is essential. Being an egghead is cool.

Those are no mere inklings.

Conservatives insist, correctly, that culture matters. Many liberals think so, too, by the way. Why, some liberals even stay married their entire lives to the same person and raise children to do the same.

You want Ward Cleaver? Meet Barack Obama. Michelle is June Cleaver with a law degree. Family values don't get any more traditional than the Obamas, who ooze marital bliss and whose adorable daughters make feminist cynics want to bake cookies and learn to smock.

Though we may perish of boredom, the Obamas may do more to elevate the American family than all the pro-marriage initiatives conceived by those who claim to speak for the deity. As a family unit, they're not significantly different from the Bushes, but they can be an inspiration particularly to the African-American community.

Despite strides in some areas, the African-American community is the most damaged in our culture, in part because of misguided policies that have decimated the family. Aid to Families With Dependent Children, for instance, was predicated on no-man-in-the-house, sending fathers fleeing from home and parental responsibility.

Although other demographic groups are fast catching up, blacks today lead the out-of-wedlock birth rate -- about 70 percent.

Fallout from fatherless homes can be measured in poverty and crime rates. Justice Department figures (2002) show that among males ages 25-29, 12.9 percent of blacks were in prison or jail, compared to 4.3 percent of Hispanics and 1.6 percent of whites.

Bias undoubtedly plays a part in the imbalance (the crack/cocaine sentencing disparity is but one example). But the correlation between absent fathers and crime is well established by decades of social science.

The change we've been waiting for may not be immediately quantifiable, but personal responsibility, educational ambition and smart public diplomacy -- all by example rather than exhortation -- could go a long way toward curing what ails us.

Obama
Obama as Ward Cleaver, Kathleen you have lost your mind.

Goofy
Obviously, this writer has drunk the Obama Kool-aid. Women are particularly susceptible to it, I've noticed.

Sanitizing the Olahmas
More propaganda from media call girl KP who's trying to sweeten the leftist poison we'll be called upon to forcibly take.

A glib tongued lying charlatan being cloaked in the decency and virtuous substance of a Ward Cleaver - indeed! Give me a break!

Beat it, Ms Parker. If we're to suffer the fascist frenzy, we'd rather do it without your toxic and mocking words.

School Girl Crush
What are the signs that Chris Matthews of MSNBC’s Hardball has a school girl crush on Obama? Find out at:
http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com

Touching
I loved Leave It To Beaver!

I remember quite distinctly the episode when June stated her love for her country for the first time. Or the one where Ward, after getting three co-workers fired, gets the big promotion. And who could forget the classic, "Eddie The Terrorist"; when, after setting off a series of bombs, Eddie Haskel comes over for dinner. It was a laugh riot!

I could reference Beve's friend Whitey Rutherford as well, but that'd be too obvious.

Obama
is like Ward Cleaver?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

More like J.R. Ewing, I'd say.

Several other 'journalists' have woke up to the fraud they sold America. I doubt this one ever will.

Just another
kool-aid drinker. Parker, you mistake style for substance. You supposedly are being paid for doing digging into facts, and offering insigtful interpretations not easily available to those of us with other employment. You are failing to do this. Your opinions do not even have the merit of novelty, let alone perspicacity. Go watch Oprah with the rest of those mesmerized by the pied piper.

76 trombones
Remember the con artist in the Music Man? Took money for uniforms, out slicked everybody, attractive, well spoken, could charm the wings off a bee, went after the librarian and after all of that....he had no clue about music to the extent of actually doing what he said he could do. His solution in every community that he ravaged was...THINK BAND, THINK.

That the world is ready to be snookered speaks more about THEM than it does about us. In the words of FDR, all we have to fear is....pleasing the world.

wrong casting
Obama should be Eddie Haskell
Michelle as Angela Landsberry in The Manchurian Candidate

It can be no other way.

Mrs. Parker, how who you like to pass the time with a game of solitaire?

I just got a chill.....

KP Still here ?
Why ??

You've almost have one thing right
The best tool for "selling" any point of view is by living those values. You were talking about liberal democratic values but this also applies to the core values of conservatism.

Instead of just going along with the MSM view of thinking that BHO can walk on water, the reading public may be better served if the core values of conservatism were not only lived but written about. This means that the columnists present their opinions and perspectives from a better "values point of view" commonly based on conservative foundation, unlike what seems to be in this article.
BHO has not projected anything other than typical liberal stances of deception and giddiness in his acquisition of power - which most of us will regret him having. Ms. Parker, you come across as a CINO (

pap journalism
No one knows exactly what Obama will be like, we can only know what he's already been like. Objective journalists would have been informing the American people what Obama has done rather than what they hope he's going to change.

But, too many so-called "journalists" today attempt to inject their bias into their writings. These propagandists know that a well-written agenda piece can influence the reader. Thus we are given Parker, the director of the "School of Written Expression at the Buckley School of Public Speaking and Persuasion". The very title tells me that objective reporting of the news is NOT taught there in Camden, SC.

Like most propaganda, there are no out-and-out lies in Parker's writing about the Obamas, just subtle innuendos and needless pap meant to influence the gullible. And we are given this pap the day after a major Islamic terrorist attack launched in one of the world's largest cities has killed upwards of 130 unarmed men, defenseless women, and innocent children. Like Parker, these terrorists are also attempting to influence the minds of people.

The terrorists and "journalists" like Parker may use different methods, but the message is the same: "SUBMIT".

KP - Got Change? That's Rich!
Your latest "attempt" at journalism has me laughing the sleep from my eyes!

Got change? Ward Cleaver would never have asked, but YOU want us to bailout "failing for a reason" newspapers? LOL And, Michelle "Woman Got Butt" as June Cleaver? ROTFLMAO. You must really be in need of my change... I have two pieces of posterboard and some string that I will give you. You could wear them and beg with wording something along the lines of "Will Work for Food and Will Write Anything You, on the Left, Wants to Hear"! Not only would that be "Change I Can Believe In" and poetic justice, it would be rich!

You must have exchanged the Kook-Aid for 'shrooms.

This WOMAN was never susceptible for even a nanosecond.

Ms Parker "covered" herself

Ms Parker thought she covered herself when she said she was not arguing the merits of style over substance and yet that is in fact precisely what she did and she clearly buys into it.

Take note

Take note conservatives. You may not agree with Ms Paker's view point but the psychosis that suspends logic to vote against ones interest lies partly in Ms Parker's mind.

irrationality of koolaid drinkers.
Look, no one is sacrosanct.

Not Parker, not Krauthammer(not by a long shot!!), not even Buchanan(tho he comes close to being an oracle of wisdom).

But when some excoriate Parker here for suggesting Obama's family values could possibly serve as a role model in reversing the tragic dissolution of the black family in America, I have to wonder if folks would rather see more destruction of black family rather than have to concede Parker may be right.

Did Parker's criticism of Palin so disturb the tortured brains of Palin's fanatical flock that they now are at a point where they can't even concede that a positive role model for black America would be in the interests of all Americans?

Interesting Observation
While the point about setting an example is a good one, the contradiction is also mentioned and is much more devastating than the "family" example is encouraging. It is pretty obvious that the family breakdown is a result of the liberal policies implemented since President Johnson's "great society". While we most certainly have a duty to help those who cannot help themselves, we should not support policies that destroy families.

don't give in to the craziness
Excellent article Kathleen.

I was surprised to see positive comments made by the Obama's. So many conservatives just want to dump on them and make them out to be what they are not.

You are my favorite columnist on townhall. You are bold in your opinions and you don't back down.

You are not afraid to take on your own party and neither are some of us.

It is up to us the more thoughtful members of the GOP to help ressurect the party and also for us to call out radicals in our party that do more harm than good.

Never give up Kathleen and don't let your voice be silenced by those afraid of dissent!

parker is still drinking the kool-aid !
june cleaver !!!!!!!!!!!?? not even close!ward cleaver!????kathleen really is in a twilight zone.

Obama's style resonates
Obama's style resonates with about 90 percent of the world.

im guessing Muslim extremists from India fall into that 10 percent bracket

jerebaub, Vitaglubit
Clarifying, Parker lauds Obama for projecting the image of a charming successful family. Insofar as this picture is accurate, she has a good point, though it is hardly the tone of the article, and is generally lost in the flow of praising Obama by faint damnations. But Vita, your point that the nanny govt policies which reward early pregnancy and family abandonment by fathers have torn up the culture is much more appropo. Obama is the epitome of these policies. The people most affected are not influenced by subleties like politics or thinking. His election will do his supporters more harm than good, particularly in this area.

Conned by 'Obama' a Snake Oil Salesman

Barack Obama has never held a job that did NOT involve talking- unless you consider 'Organizing Communities for Communists' a job.

Barack Obama has 'ZERO' executive experience - he has never even run a lemonade stand.

Barack Obama was elected President of Harvard Law Review but published 'NOTHING".

Barack Obama was an Illinois Senator 1996-2004 - voted 'Present' 129 times.

Barack Obama never authored and brought to vote ONE BILL of his own. You know, the stuff, senators are supposed to do. Not just show up and vote 'present'.

Barack Obama, as a US Senator logged 143 days of which he accomplished 'NOTHING'.

Barack Obama (off teleprompter) name the most significant thing you have ever done? uhh umm er uh duh

Barack Obama could not even run his own campaign - David Axelrod did.

Liberals are bragging about being 'Conned' - how funny!

if you are a good enough 'Con Man' like Barack Obama – which involves appearing not quite good enough and rather sympathetic to those they 'Con' – you will get away with it.

Barack Obama walking the path between the 'Obama Current Truth' and the delusions of those who trust him - this apparition is either a fiend or the 'Messiah'.

The advantage Barack Obama has over his 'Rubes', is that his lies about his past and lies about the future of his 'Rubes' are so outlandish - the Obama lies are transmuted until the 'Rubes' rejoice in their being conned.

This orgiastic moment could only be achieved on those decadent 'Rubes' that think they are so intelligent that they could NOT possibly be conned - what a group!

Obamunism Brings Depression

"Our sense of power is more vivid when we break a man's spirit than when we win his heart."
Eric Hoffer
------------------------------------

Obamunism Coming to America? Obama will break the spirit of the American worker.

Why work hard and produce when one is punished for it?

Do NOT work hard and produce little and one is rewarded for it.

What is wrong with Obamunism can be summed up in one word 'Initiative'.

When 'Initiative' is lost humans become depressed and quit trying, because there is no reward other than a theoretical 'Sacrifice for the Common Good'.

Like it or not the world revolves around the concept of 'What is in it for me'.

Barack Obama's 'Obamunism' brings him power.

Obamunism brings 'goodies' to his minions.

Obamunism brings depression of the soul and defeat to the producers.

Homosexuality is about Lust

The modern Liberal conscience is capable of judgment - it has judged that Homosexuality is normal and natural and those who oppose 'Homosexual Marriage' are abnormal and unnatural.

Liberals have judged that 'Deviant Behavior' should have 'Rights' and that anyone exercising their right to vote against 'Behavioral Rights' should be castigated and stripped of their right to vote.

Homosexuality is nothing more than the pursuit of 'Lust' instead of love.

Homosexual defenders and participants of sexual aberration are using 'Moral Equivalency' to justify their perverse desires and lust by saying: 'Those who oppose us aren't perfect, so they do not have the right to oppose our aberrant behavior'.

Homosexuals then say: 'It is natural to be unnatural', 'Normal to be Abnormal', those who oppose us have lost their moral compass.

Homosexuals are intolerant of anyone who disagrees with their lustful behavior and attack them personally and viciously, all in the name of 'Tolerance' and 'Diversity'.

'Looking for Love in all the wrong places.'

And I'm sure
his example will do great deal to end the genocide of back babies in this country -- 50% of all black pregnancies end in abortion, but wait abortion is a family value for the senior Obamas.

But surely they will set an example of personal responsibility -- oh wait isn't he the man that ran on the platform to send money to people who don't actually pay taxes.

Oh but since Kathleen can now speak authoritatively for 90% of the world's population, I'm sure Americans will be ailed and loved the world over -- we may very well have peace in our time. Gosh if only the Russians weren't cozying up to Venezuela on warships and aiming missiles at Europe. And those darn disenfranchised freedom fighters in India haven't read the peace in our time memo from the "one" yet, but what's a couple of hundred dead people now that we have a man who can read a teleprompter well enough to make Kathleen tingle.

You are a sick sick woman -- I'mnot sure if you believe the crap that you write or you are writing it just to stick it to al those oogdy boogdy knuckledragging Christians you seem to hate so much. Whatever the reason I have a simple request please stop fellating the one -- children could be reading.

Good Column
It's good to be reminded that under an Obama administration other nations are more likely to work with us rather than against us in fighting terrorism.

You Would Like to be a Laura Ingraham
You would like to be a journalist but do it for
MSNBC or CNN or the New York Times please leave Townhall, we do not need your trash we get enough of it from the aforementioned.

Oh and isn't it just
a bit condescending for you a lily-white woman, one of the self-annointed elite to decide that not only that black Americans need role models, but that you are the one who should pick them.

Have you ever written similar pieces about how white or Asian people need role models and who they should be.

I don't deny that black Americans have problems in many of their lower-income communities and at statistically higher rates than other races/ethnicities but it is the height of liberal hypocrisy for you to decide they need role models like young children and you are best able to identify said role models.

Though it is funny that you hail Obama who would expand the Great Society programs that have devastated black families.

Where have you been Dave?
Other nations have been working with us to fight terrorism.

What Kathleen seems to miss is it doesn't matter what the average person in France or Zimbabwe or wherever thinks about the US in an opinion poll -- what matters is what peope who are actual threats to us think, and as far as I can see Russia is licking its chops -- Putin and Medevev will chew up Obama and his foreign policy advisors and spit them out.

And terrorists are celebrating because they see a return to no reprisals for their actions and the weakness of compromise and appeasement.

The US and basically the entire West have become weak and fearful, and we will all pay for this in the long run. Americans are afraid to be exposed to second hand smoke and transfats for goodness sake do you or anyone believe that we could ever fight a war like WWII again? We are fast becoming a nation of helpless weak girly-men and shrill self-entitled Oprah watching women.

More men died in individual training missions in WWII than have died in Iraq, and Americans squeal about the death toll. Not that the loss of any soldier is not a great loss to his family and a sacrifice we should all honor, but seriously we are a nation of whiners that reach melt-down if we can't buy everything we want when we want it. I shudder to think of this country needing real sacrifice from its citizens.

Retired Geek how soon some forget;
BHO was educated, trained and worked for a communist organization founded by Saul D Alinsky. Community organization.

What community? The Communist Manifesto is their bible. Hillary Rodham also a follower of the Alinssky order. Why are thesis of BHO deep sixed and kept from public view? Why is his Wahabi education meaningless? In order to go to school he had to renounce his (American?) citizenship.

Still, to many unanswered questions about the individual on point of the most advanced nation in history.

Barack Obama the "Family Man

"Although black women constitute only 6% of the population, they comprise 36% of the abortion industry’s clientele.

The leading abortion providers have chosen to exploit blacks by locating 94% of their abortuaries in urban neighborhoods with high black populations.

This high rate of abortion has decimated the black family and destroyed black neighborhoods to the detriment of society at large.

1,452 African-American children are killed each day by the heinous act of abortion.

3 out of 5 pregnant African-American women will abort their child.
"...For those of you that don't know, Barack Obama became a "minister" of Planned Parenthood a long time ago.

He's so good at carrying out their racist, murderous, agenda against Afro-Americans and society at large, they gave him a 100% score on his voting record.

Planned Parenthood is following the strategy of their racist founder, Margaret Sanger, to the letter. Planed Parenthood is saying, “We have our poster boy!

Get him out in front as a lure for their women and men. Get them into our abortion clinics and dismember their children by the millions!”

You say absurd? No Way!

Planned Parenthood’s Valentine cards were sent out to hundreds of thousands of young people in the nation. Whose face is plainly seen waving to them with a big smile? Whose endorsement is given to this racist and calloused organization? Who is used to lure children to give credibility to its hideous plot? Barack Obama, that's who!..."

Kathleen,
There is no Santa Claus, The tooth fairy does not have your baby teeth, and Obama is just a man in an empty suit. He may talk pretty for you, but he can't pay your mortgage and he won't put gas in your car. The change he offers--"spread the wealth around"---is not the change we need.

CHANGE
What change, do you ask? Why noboma is placing our Governor in charge of Homeland Security.

She has been a joke as far as keeping our borders in check. Homeland Security? Don't make me puke, that means keeping Terrists in check, She is way out of that leage.

CHANGE? If that's a indication of nobomas plan for change, God help us.

lulu
It is your man obama who hails himself as a roll model for black men. Not kathleen.

Obama's 90%

Mike says, "im guessing Muslim extremists from India fall into that 10 percent bracket"

Ha! Along with Putin and all his cronies and don't forget china leaders. And of course he doesn't play in N. Korea.

Retired Geek -You might like to add this
Indiana's chapter of Planned Parenthood is providing Gift Certificates, which can be used for abortions, because they want to get in the Holiday Spirit!

Kathleen wrote:
"On the domestic front, what does he offer?"

Let's see, first, he offers unlimited abortions as a means of birth control. He offers redistribution of our hard earned dollars to people too lazy to work for themselves (e.g. Peggy the Moocher). He offers legitimization of domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers and the Weathermen. He offer legitimization of slum lords like Tony Rezko. He offers socialist policies that will ultimately lead to economic disaster.

And I really loved this line:

"Michelle is June Cleaver with a law degree. Family values don't get any more traditional than the Obamas, who ooze marital bliss and whose adorable daughters make feminist cynics want to bake cookies and learn to smock."

Kathleen conveniently forgets to note that this is the same Michelle Obama who has only been proud of her country once in her adult life and that these are the same daughters whom Obama doesn't want "punished with babies" if they act in an irresponisble manner. June Cleaver was a hell of alot more patriotic and pragmetic than that. There is no comparison there.

Kathleen is still as ignorant as she was on the day she abandoned Conservatism. She needs to leave Townhall and make room for a real columnist.

Clueless:
about who BHO is. After watching the interviews of people who would vote for him and had no clue who they were voting for says it all. Zogby poll follow up proved this.

Usefull Idiots with no clue whatsoever put this person in office. Substantial research by phycologist have amased case studies stating that being a liberal democrat is a phycological disorder.

The sad part about these folks they don't care to know anything about the background of this individual only there will be change. So far, all the kings men/women are the same old crowd of 545 who have made the mess we are in currently. NO CHANGE at all SNAFU.

demonstrating one's heartfelt concern.
Faux conservatives on this board who touchingly seem so concerned over the rate of abortion within the black community, seem oddly indifferent to the needs of that black child who is not aborted and born into poverty(as demonstrated by faux conservative doctrinaire opposition of government assistance programs for the poor).

Statistics on black poverty are still extremely high in the United States.

Even as it is a bit presumptuous and arrogant for faux conservative whites to demand of a black mother that she not avail herself of the legal procedure of abortion, faux conservative whites can nonetheless demonstrate their concern over the plight of black America by 1)advocating additional government assistance to deal with epidemic poverty afflicting the black community, and 2) change laws which now make it difficult for cross-racial adoptions.

It would warm my heart to no end to see all these faux conservative whites flocking to adoption centers, demanding to adopt black babies.

Now, Hell might freeze over before that happens...but we have witnessed unusual climatic changes of late.

My goodness
please never call Obama my man -- I'm turned off by metrosexual communists as most normal people are.

At least Putin and other communists actually have testosterone.

America the country that can't even produce masculine communists -- its just sad.

It is not that Parker is wrong about "Camelot II". I am happy that Barry's presidency will put an end to the victim excuses for their every ill.. His inaugeration will make that scam moot.

What bothers me is that in Parker's "It's a cupcake...,really" world, she thinks that Barry's "style" will win this country more respect than Bush's "swagger". This shows her complete lack of understanding about the world we live in today.

"Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine" are wonderful songs.They are not the ditties that the President of the United States of America should be singing.Bush didn't.Barry shouln't. Our enemies around the world have their fingers crossed that these will be two of Barry's favorites.

This country STILL need a cowboy.I hope that Barry puts down his glass of chilled Reisling and starts to enjoy scotch. I hope he starts smoking again...,perhaps a cigar. I hope he learns to ride a horse!

In Miss Parker's cupcake world she sees nothing wrong with the Reisling. That is the problem.

No more pandering to ethnic minorities!!!"

Excuse me, but the Oxford-trained Governor of my State was the youngest person named to a Secretary in a Cabinet ever. He was around 22 at the time and I was there in the Governor's Mansion when he was working as the department head. Besides, if you ever bothered to listen to the rational and fact-filled speeches and press conferences he gives, you would know that he had experience and knowledge that Obaby could only dream of having.

As for pandering to minorities, no one voted for Jindal because he happens to be of Indian ethnicity, which is more than can be said for the polls that evidence numerous Americans voted for the obaMESSiah because he is black.

How's Chrissy Dodd working out for you?

Oh please jerabaub
it was liberals who made it difficult for whites to adopt babies of other races - not conservatives. It is liberals who have said through bureacrats, judges, legislatures and social work associations that it is better for black and Indian children to be raised by the state or foster homes than be exposed to whiteness.

Americans of all political persuasions adopt children from all over the world because they want children and they are not many available for adoption in the US.

As to welfare, what in the world do you think caused the family breakdown in not only the black community but with lower-income whites and hispanics as well. Prior to the "Great Society" and abortion on demand illegitimacy was rare and blacks married in many periods at rates greater than whites. It is neither kind nor compassionate to subject children of any race to multi-generational fatherless poverty promoted and subsidized by government poverty pimps.

We don't know enough about
what kind of a father Obama really is to pass judgement. We do know Obama chose to have his children baptised in a racist church, where they were obviously subjected repeatedly to the teachings of Rev. Wright. We do know grandma Robinson is going to move into the white house so she can be the nanny. Evidence seems to indicate that Granny Robinson is a stronger role model in the girl's life than Obama who was often away from them for months at a time IIRC. So I suggest we wait on judging Obama as a good or bad role model until we can get beyond the hype and see what the man is really like.

Matthew in WV
"Subject: don't give in to the craziness
Excellent article Kathleen."

I guess that you haven't given up to Obaby's determination to bankrupt the coal (even clean coal) industry that provides a great deal of revenue for your State AND it's citizens, along with providing the power for about 50% of this nation's electricity.

"don't give in to the craziness"... just drink some more Kook-Aid and add some 'shrooms as KP apparently has.

What's the difference?
I find it curious that when Bill Cosby was making statements about the need for a black man to be an example to his family, etc., he got a lot of grief for it, but when Obama makes basically the same comments, he is a savior of all that ails. Also, I must have missed the Leave it to Beaver episodes where June criticized the country disparagingly, and spoke of the difficulties of getting her children to their numerous costly classes and obligations while trying to hold down her $300K job to a group of women in an area where the average salary was 1/10th what she was making. Mrs. Obama is not and never will be Jackie or June.
Curiously, Sarah Palin was closer to either and Ms. Noonan had nothing but contempt for her.

So far, Obama = Paris Hilton of politics
"Gedmin pointed out that George Bush's "bring 'em on" cowboy style worked for about half the American people and about 5 percent of the globe. By comparison, he said, Obama's style resonates with about 90 percent of the world."

How does anyone know what Obama's "style" is?

So far, he has done little in his career except run for higher office. He has not had to confront evil, he has not had to make tough or unpopular decisions in governance, he has never been faced with a Hobbsian choice in his public life. So far he has been adored for his ability to speak and has benefited by virtue of not being George Bush. He has surrounded himself with ridiculously vain and pompous trappings of pseudo authority: False temple settings a ring of flags and that silly "Office of the President Elect" (of which there is none) sign on his podium.

If being a perpetual candidate is the 'real' Obama,, and the carefully controlled and scripted persona presented by his campaign handlers is "style", God help us for the shallow and thoughtless bubbleheaded celebrity worship culture we've become. We'll get exactly what we deserve.

How about a return to ????
individual responsibility and parenting in the black community? Maybe the black community should clean up it's own act and stop whining about the "white community's responsibility for the black communities failure." Get a grip and take responsibility for your own lives and actions.

KP's "Change" is disingenuous!
This comment wreaks of apologetics for non-change:

Perhaps we're looking for change in all the wrong places.
In other ways, less apparent but of long-term importance,
Obama may be the change he promised.

You need to face the truth KP. "The One" is nothing more than "The Clueless One" and that's all the change we got. We're going to a President who total idiot who has NO qualifications.

Don't think so? Why do you think he has to have all these 'recycled' cabinet members? Why do you think he can't follow through on any of the campaign promises he made? He has no leadership capabilities at all. He is not and never has been executive material.

You need to get real, KP!

What's the differenct? Part 2
Ooops, I meant Ms. Parker, not Ms. Noonan.

Great Story
Notice how these people read your story everyday to comment and degrade you? They love you and they know you are a Great Story to read. Keep up the good work

Past Performance
In the financial world we are always reminded that past performance is no indicator of future performance. With the past performance and accomplishments of the new President Elect it scares me to think where we are headed. No doubt about it that he is an intelligent man but it worries me, like others, that he is surrounding himself with a group of men who have, for the most part, been responsible for the terrible situation that we are faced with today. Like a foxes in the chicken house. I am unable to see any of the promised "chage" that we are supposed to see. From here it looks like business as usual.

Greetings, Oogedy-Boogedies
As a libertarian, I used to not like Kathleen Parker too much. But since she's managed to get under the thin skin of the Oogedy-Boogedy wing of alleged "conservatism," I'm really starting to like her.

You Oogedy-Boogedies do realize, I hope, how hollow your criticism of Kathleen Parker sounds. For example, many of you criticize Obama for being a lightweight, like Paris Hilton. Or, "the Clueless One." This, from the folks who supported that great paragon of intellectual discourse, George W. Bush!

This is just too funny for words.

Kathleen Parker points out that, regardless of what you think of Obama's politics (I generally disagree), you have to admit he sets a good example in being a devoted husband who applied himself and achieved success. Ward Cleaver, as it were. This is especially true, KP points out, for the black community, where seventy percent of births are out of wedlock.

The howls of indignation this brought forth from you Oogedy-Boogedies is great entertainment.

Keep it comin', Kathleen!

Writing history before it happens...
Why is there such a (perceived) need by 'journalists' to write history prior to its occurrence? Obama has done virtually nothing, yet is already being hailed as the finest president we've ever had...in fact, here in Ohio (specifically Cleveland), we have a city council member who wants to rename an elementary school (Nathan Hale...honest!) after BHO! 'Journalists' (and this includes you, KP)...and other followers of BHO...GET A GRIP!

In truth, I hope BHO is an adequate president and doesn't continue to lead US down Irresponsibility Boulevard any further...I doubt it will come to pass, but I'm willing to keep my wait and see attitude as opposed to lauding someone who's done nothing (yet)!

Assumptions are foolish
RE: Paolo:
"This, from the folks who supported that great paragon of intellectual discourse, George W. Bush!"

Why do you foolishly assume we supported George Bush? Like 2008, the elections of 2000 and 2004 gave us a choice between bad and worse. We chose bad. Bush is not and never has been a conservative; he's a Republican. Ditto McCain. Once again a lib has shown how little he knows of the difference between the two.

Chump Change

As PT Barnum once said "there's a sucker born every minute." This election was a perfect illustration of this principal, when all the suckers decided to turn out for the vote.

Although Abraham Lincoln correctly observed, "you can't fool all the people all the time," unfortunately, sometimes you can fool most of the people.

After running a primary campain to the left of Teddy Kennedy (in the moments he was actually caught making a clear policy statement), Barry Obama proceeded to run swiftly by middle-of-the-road John McCain to the right of Barry Goldwater.

Of course, the fools who voted for the BlahMeister had no idea what the issues were.

During most of the campain, when the great unwashed were paying no attention to the campaign, they nevertheless kept hearing the drumbeat "hope and change." Never mind that it was never clear what changes we were supposed to hope for.

Then there were the college kids with their heads filled with mush, who, for the most part, can't string two logical thoughts together, got contacted by the Obama campaign, asking for their ideas, making them think that they would help the slick Democrat(ick) decide which hope and what change would occur.

Then there were the Republicans, who kept trying to explain complicated and subtle ideas about economics to a nation of people who avoided all Econ classes, sounding all the world like the brainy head of the debate team that everyone laughed at and nobody listened to.

C'mon
After the myriad failures of the Bush administration even a modicum of competence indicates a large serving of change. This canard that by hiring skilled and competent people to his administration Barack Obama is somehow turing his back on his signature campaign message is utter nonsense.

Chump Change Part Deux

So while the Obamameister was promoting empty hopeandchange, and the Republicans were talking like geeky brainiacs, the Lefties were spewing forth a series of vicious false talking points that hovered in the air unchallanged.

Their lies were all simple soundbites: "Bush-Lied-People-Died," "Dick Cheney is Darth Vader," and "Iraq is a QUAGMIRE!"

Only recently, conservative talk show hosts have learned to interrupt the long strings of sloganistic talking points of the radicals and make them stick to only one point and defend it, which they are unable to do.

But where are the short sound clips from conservatives that promote our side? Giving us long explanations will only make the eyes of the average fool glaze over and his mind shut off.

Where are the sound bites we can believe in? Where are our slogans? We don't have to resort to lies like the Left, but we do have to say something simple, that simple chumps can wrap their minds around while remaining conscious.

TH is just like the RNC
It doesn't matter how many members reject Kathleen Parker or Jackie Gingrich, TH will still run their columns. I'm glad I don't have a magazine subscription.

One more thing: it is hard to conduct
a campaign when your supposed allies are stabbing you in the back.

When idiots start thinking that the stupid things Tina Fey (the dog-faced, poor immitation of Sarah Palin) says are actually the words of Palin herself, and then numbskulls on our own side not only start believing the Leftie lies, but jumping on their side to assault our leadership, then the Republican party is in trouble.

If an inlisted man, in the middle of a battle, started taking pot shots at the officers,and helped to bring them down, they would be hauled in front of a military court and hopefully hanged. Well, maybe not in today's military, when soldiers are only tried for killing the enemy, but in the traditional military this would have been the case.

At the very least, the offending soldier would be stripped of their stripes, have their sword broken in two, and like Chuck Conners in BRANDED, been sent out the gates of the fort, with only the advice, "don't let the gates hit you on the way out."

So when I hear disloyalty from supposedly conservative Republicans, I wish our side would do the same to them, at least figuratively.

blackjuju

The trouble with Republicans is that they hear the lying talking points of the radical left and imagine they really mean it.

When the Left keeps calling for reaching across the aisle, they are LYING! But the naive chumps on the conservative side take them at their word and reach across. Meanwhile, they are laughing at us, like Lucy every time she pulls the football away and Charlie Brown lands on his back.

As Michael Steele pointed out, we keep reaching out to the Pitt Bull, when all the dog wants to do is take our arm off!

Get rid of this woman
This woman's writing absolutely sickens me, because she purports to be a conservative of some type or another. Get rid of her here at Townhall and let her post her columns on the HuffPo or Alternet.

No, Janice
We do not turn into the read the spewings of KP. We are just hoping she will leave and take her dregs with her.

As for those that continue to label us all "Oogedy-Boogedies", I haven't been to church in 15 years, but I am a Christian. I haven't been swayed by the Oogedy-Boogedy obaMessiah just because KP does such a "terrific" job at drinking Kook-Aid and "trying" to be a writer. Those, who believe all Conservatives are "bullied" from some pulprit, what, pray tell, would you consider the Barackopolis? Did I forget that I never heard him quell the knee-jerk reaction of so many who call him "The Messiah", "The One", etc. Talk about Libtard Oogedy-Boogedies.

As for Bush, since I am a fiscal conservative, I am beyond disgusted by his recent bailouts, but I am thankful that he, despite the "stupidity" that the Left has used to describe his policies, has kept the United States terror-free for more than 7 years. For that, I am very grateful.

Obama's Standards for Racial Tolerance

"There is no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost". Michelle Obama

Barack Obama helped Louis Farrakhan receive a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' (Farrakhan is an Obama neighbor and spiritual adviser).

"The white man is our mortal enemy, and we cannot accept him." Louis Farrakhan

Farrakhan is quoted as having said, "The white man is our mortal enemy, and we cannot accept him."

Farrakhan believes "Six-thousand years ago, an evil wizard called Dr. Yacub created the white "race" in a genetic experiment." Whites and blacks do not have the same creator.

Farrakhan boarded a UFO "mother wheel" piloted by 13 youths now orbiting Earth, waiting to destroy the whites and rescue the blacks.

Farrakhan stated that North America will be encapsulated with a "shield" and then the atmosphere will be burned off after the "mother wheel" rescues blacks.

Obama's are the 'Role Models' for racial tolerance?

What
Do we have to do to get rid of this cow?

Obama 'Role Model' for Children

Most, if not all parents worry about who their children associate with and are friends with.

Barack Obama has set the standard by which all Obama followers want their children to follow.

Barack Obama was mentored by Communist Frank Marshall Davis, Communist writer and poet (1905-1987).

Frank Marshall Davis was identified unequivocally as a CPUSA member in a 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities.

----------------------------------------------

Barack Obama carefully chose William 'Bill' Ayers who said, "Kill all the rich people. ... Bring the revolution home. Kill your parents."

Barack Obama launched his political career in the home of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.

----------------------------------------------

Alice Palmer met Barack Obama during meetings at the home of Bill Ayers and hand picked Obama to fill her newly vacated 'State Senate Seat'.

Alice Palmer served as an executive board member of the U.S. Peace Council, which the FBI identified as a Communist front group.

----------------------------------------------

Michael Klonsky was chosen by Barack Obama as a blogger on the 'Obama official Website'. Klonsky a former leader of 'SDS' - Students for a Democratic Society and a leader of the 'New Communist Party'.

----------------------------------------------

Tim Wheeler is a National Board member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), and has been a key figure in the party's Baltimore chapter since the early 1970s. He helped organize local canvassing and visibility events for Obama, and he chronicled his experiences on the campaign trail in a blog that appeared on the Obama campaign website.

----------------------------------------------

Jeremiah Wright was carefully chosen by Barack Obama to 'Mentor' him and be his spiritual guide.

Mentor Wright became famous for screaming 'God Damn America' from the pulpit at TUCC.

Which family values
does Barry promote by denying vouchers to others while sending his kids to private school? By telling us he's a "little too awesome"? By telling people, "I want you to like me"? By responding to criticism by complaining that "they threw the kitchen sink at me"? By telling us he wants to redistribute our paychecks? I don't remember Ward Cleaver pulling this kind of stuff.

Obama 'Slicked Miracle Seekers'

"Now when it comes to the economy, we're not going to get out of the hole that we're in overnight. ... I'm not a miracle worker."

but Obama you said:

"... a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama" - Barack Obama Lebanon, New Hampshire.
January 7, 2008.

“It is absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”
Barack Obama

but Obama they said:

"...Barack Obama isn't really one of us. Not in the normal way, anyway.

...A Lightworker -- An Attuned Being with Powerful Luminosity and High-Vibration Integrity who will actually help usher in a New Way of Being"
Mark Morford San Francisco Chronicle, Friday, June 06, 2008

Louis Farrakhan: "...And he (Barack Obama) has involved young people in a political process that they didn't care anything about. When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking."

Obama knew he couldn't work miracles, he just wanted his 'Slicked Followers' to think he could.

This man just used a catch phrase!!!
I think everyone just loved the word "CHANGE" because they figured it is better than what we have now.
The only we changed was we switched one liar for another liar but this one calls himself a mutt. I never thought that a "MUTT" would be a president of anything much less the United States but that what we have and that is a fact.
I mentioned earlier that we switched from one liar to another well this why I said this whether anyone wants to know or not I don't really care.
He is not an American he is African and that is a fact he was born in Africa. His grandmother in Africa said she was so proud of him because she was in the operating room when he was born.
Coupled with the fact that when his father died his mother married a man from Idonesia they moved there so he could go to school there but at the time they were at war so he had to become a citizen of Idonesia so he is Idonesian and that is a fact. I saw a picture of him with all the students from that school.
Then all of sudden he is an American born in Hawaii in two (2) different hospitals. I know that he walks on water but born in two different hospitals that is really something don't you think so?
But I am telling you everything will remain the same no matter what and that is a fact. Mark my words NOTHING will change no matter what. Didn't anybody hear he wants everyone to learn Spanish no matter you want to do or not. I dare him to tell me what language I should speak I dare him and that is a fact.

Ms. Parker's Token 'Savior'
Gee whiz, Ms. Parker, if you're looking for black role models did you forget Bill Cosby and Clarence Thomas? Now those two talk the talk and walk the walk.

I've read a lot of material about the Messiah and I came to one conclusion--his every action and speech is designed to help not his brothers and sisters in the Hood but his own career.

The woman you disparaged, Gov. Sarah Palin, has talked the talk and walked the walk every day of her life. And she defends the most threatened of human beings, the unwanted fetuses. But your role model supports abortion right up to and including the born-alive. Elitist snobs like yourself adopt a rich, eloquent black man, who has never done anything in his life except flourish while other people pay for his life style, and pat yourselves on your back, commending your tolerance and lack of racism, which supposedly all the common people have but artfully conceal.

Meanwhile this "savior" is a hustler laughing at all the rich white folks he's conning.

THE BLACK CLEAVER FAMILY- WHAT A STRETCH
How much more insulting can Kathleen Parker get to compare the Obamas to the Cleaver family. Oh yeah, I am sure that June Cleaver would have championed the white dominance ideology and said she was proud of her country for the first time beccause Ward Cleaver was running for president. I don't know who I respect less, Katheen Parker or Michelle Obama.

Eschew Obfuscation!
Myriad! Modicum! Canard! Ol' Eric's thesaurus is really smokin' today!

Give it up Kathleen
you openly campaigned for Obama on Town Hall. So much so that you were revered by MSNBC and complained about by conservative columnists. Now you're showing buyer's remorse. Give it up!

Respectfully Disagree
I consider myself a staunch conservative, and I respectfully disagree with Kathleen on MANY points. I especially didn't like the way she trashed Sarah Palin. But, when I read so many of the comments here on all her Townhall commentaries, I have to wonder who is really drinking too much Kool-Aid? It may be a different flavor, but it still has the same effect.
Some of the personal, negative, and derogatory comments people post about KP sound like something you'd expect over at DailyKos, or some other Loony Left site. I would hope that conservatives would show a little more thought, and discuss specific points of contention more intelligently. Otherwise, you're just living up to the left's stereotype of all conservatives being redneck idiots.
If all you want is commentators that are going to preach directly to your own choir, than you are probably a person too stupid to think for yourself anyway!

Like I said, I disagree with Ms. Parker's points quite often, but I still find her comments intellectually stimulating.

Parker-Obama Is Ward Cleaver Statesman?
Old Katie has had way too many Obama Kool-aid drinks. Obama is 50+ days away from taking office and in her addled mind he's assumed the persona of a Ward Cleaver-like brilliant statesman who commands the adoration of 90% of the world, as if world approval was the sine qua non of American success. She's also conjured the palpably Cauacasian-despising Michelle into a sweet June Cleaver-like First Lady. Just when we think Katie can't get any more bizarre, she springs another surprise. Parker is a true journalistic phenom--lacking both a political values compass and a semblance of logic. Still, I'm betting they love Katie out there on the eastern seaboard cocktail circuit where she's welcomed as a conservative who saw the light, albeit we, on the true right, were never fooled.

Why in God's name does TownHall continue to publish the tripe from this woman? We can read the same stuff at the Huffington Post.

MILTM, if you found the Parker article "intellectually stimulating", you might want to consider a more direct technique. Try driving an electrode deep into your brain a la' the neuropsychological brain stimulation techniques of the Skinnerian rat psychologists and hitting the electrical delivery bar about 25 times per minute. It should produce an intellectual experience on par with reading a Kathleen Parker column.

KP may not be the kind of conservative you like, but she isn't the kind of left-wing nut that would post on Huffington or DailyKos. A slightly different viewpoint shouldn't make anyone that upset, if they are firm in their beliefs.

KP surely didn't convince me that Sarah was an idiot. It just really worries me when I see so much vitriol spewed about these things. I would really like to see Townhall stand for a little more thoughtful commentary, and not get down into the mud of the left wing sites.

On another note, your take on Benedrictess Arnold may have seemed inspired to you, but about 2 minutes of research on your part would have revealed that Benedicta is the commonly accepted female version of the name Benedict.

But, hey! For a lady from Louisiana, who finds sport in kicking around dead dogs, I'm sure you're real smart in your part of the bayou!

Ward Cleaver was portrayed by AN ACTOR, and was not a real person. The whole Cleaver family was FICTION, so I guess, parker is correct in saying how alike they are to the obamas! FICTION, SOUND AND LIGHTS designed, created and spoon fed to gullible Americans salivating for for a strong daddy figure and family example.

I guess the obamas really ARE the black Cleavers!

Dissent is healthy and is often not pretty. You challenge the conservative commenters on TH to play nice against a monolithic left wing media--of which Ms. parker is an integral part.

Sorry, but I won't play nice. parker has shown her stripes, and I do not agree with them AT ALL. I will dissent, and I won't be nice.

That whole "turn the other cheek" attitude with which the left has bashed conservatives over the head does not apply when debating politics. Not since this last election.

No more docile, nice "let's all get along" conservatives---at least not on TH.

Change!
YES, when the Blacks realize that their own kind in the White House will make it easier for them to kill their own babies (Blacks 70% out of wedlock rate directly related to highest abortion rate) ...and thus make it easier for the race to dwindle in the next few years. YES!

Not racist comment. One of my better friends is Black. It's a realistic comment to an already filthy and shameful columnist.

"But, hey! For a lady from Louisiana, who finds sport in kicking around dead dogs, I'm sure you're real smart in your part of the bayou!"

No, I fail to get any amusement from dogs, dead or otherwise. If you reread what I wrote relative to "kicking dead dogs", I said that it is USELESS, as is KP. I have no first-hand knowledge of kicking a "dead dog", but do realize it would be an exercise in futulity, if one chose to do it.

I can't see a bayou from my porch (in fact, I don't think the Concierge can either), but kudos to you for even knowing what one is, which is far more than I can say for my former classmates at the Ivy League schools where I received 4 degrees, including a MBA and JD. In fact, about the only thing they knew about Louisiana (this was two decades ago, prior to Katrina) was that catching a Zulu coconut was the highlight of Mardi Gras.

With all seriously, I truly hope that neither you nor your dog were adversely impacted by the recent fires. "Bayou" people, like you wrongly assumed that I am, know what pain can be caused by natural disasters.

And, thanks for calling me a "lady".

ArmyWifeAggie88
I could not agree with you more. The next time a Republican, especially one that calls himself or herself a "Conservative", crosses the aisle to make patty-cake with a Democrat, they can stay there.

John McCain is an American hero, but he was a loser before the fight even started. I do not say this disparingly, but he subscribed to the Rodney King view of life, i.e. "Can't we all get along?" Liberals do not want to get along with Conservatives... they want us to change or die. After 8 years of "Bush Lied - They Died", they can take their bipartisanship and shove it.

I hope your holiday is blessful and your husband safe.

This woman is completely off the hinges
For Parker to say she's a conservative is like Jeffrey Dahlmer saying he was just a normal, misunderstood guy with an eating disorder. One need only read this latest column of hers to see just how far off the deep end she really is:

Traitor...Thy name is KP

Don't remove KP...
Unlike my friends here at TH I say let KP keep going. I say this for two reasons primarily. 1st off- she is absolutely hilarious- I mean the slant she puts to the liberal-conservative war on values and policy is some of the most hilarius stuff I ever read. 2nd- she is a lib. who denies it and that in a sense is a way for me to see inside the lib. mind and seek to understand the convoluted and distorted view of reality these people have. She has trashed Palin for being beautiful, for being too right wing. She has attacked Christians in a totally unjust and distorted manner. She has done a multitude of other tricks of the trade so to speak as well. Now, she absolutely falls head over heels for Obama because he is appointing 1990's retreads and a few Bushies in the process of setting up his admin. That, along with seeing Obama's graceful walk and talk as making 90% of the world love us (where she gets that claptrap is questionable). I mean here it is Nov. 28th 2008 24 days out from the election and AlQueda has called Obama a "house negro", terrorists have attacked in a major way in India, Russia is sending war ships to Venezuela and threatening US interests, and Iran is furthering its Nuclear aspirations and quite possibly already has a version of the "bomb". These and other assorted events have occurred- "but by golly according to KP the rest of the world loves our black Ward-and June Cleaver's". Keep it up KP- you are deluded and absolutely hilarious- this is such fun!!!

Huh?
"being an egghead is cool?" This from the One who wrote in one of his books that he used marijuana and "blow." Of course, the One is a hepcat, so suave and cool - the antithesis of Bush's cowboy persona so hated by the elites. Obama's use of recreational drugs and lack of character (as shown by his relationships/friendships with known terrorists, criminals and segregationists) has apparently made him attractive to Parker. It amazes me how we see what we want to see, regardless of the reality. What shouldn't surprise, is that this flaw of human nature occurs in both conservatives and liberals. For me, Parker mirrors Maureen Dowd. Snarky, saracastic, and shallow. How sad.

Parker is on drugs
"You want Ward Cleaver? Meet Barack Obama. Michelle is June Cleaver with a law degree. Family values don't get any more traditional than the Obamas, who ooze marital bliss and whose adorable daughters make feminist cynics want to bake cookies and learn to smock."

That has to go down as the dumbest comment of the year. When one does not think Parker can get any dumber she does.

Imagine Ward Clever starting his career off with a terrorist. Then joining a racist, anti-American church for 20 years listening to his hand picked spiritual advisor yell "God Damn America" and condemn white people. Ward then takes Wally and Beaver to a self-loathing white preacher to learn how to hate themselves. Meanwhile, June is going to the PTA condemning the US, calling it a mean country, and refuses to be proud of it unless everyone kisses Ward's feet.

Parker needs to go into a mental institution with no hope of recovery.

Imbecile
"As a family unit, they're not significantly different from the Bushes"...thus making your column effectively pointless, you nitwit.

Maybe you should try academia, Parker, since writing columns is apparently so far outside of your skillset. The Washington Post can use you as a token to attempt to offset the self-evident claim that it is a worthless leftist rag, but the fact that leftists hate you doesn't mean you're a "conservative", as they would market you.

You just waste a spot that someone with talent should be occupying - but that would undermine WaPo's marketing philosophy: all stupidity, all the time.

In the meanwhile, keep up the stupid - it's the only reason anyone knows your name.

(Townhall - you are embarrassing yourselves with this tripe.)

More good stuff from Ms.Parker
Here's another bouquet from a liberal for Ms. Parker. Delighted that she gets Obama! Of course conservatives have no use for Obama's style--these are people, you must remember, who love Coulter, Savage, a brace of Limbaughs, and the mildly hominid Doug Giles, just for openers. Conservatives used to be really classy--in the Bill Buckley era. Then they were people who knew which wine to order, spoke French, read Latin and Greek, and inveighed against the trends in American mass culture. I recall that Buckley admitted he had never heard of Johnny Cash, on the occasion of Cash's death. Now that's a conservative! Today's right-wing populists, who mistakenly regard themselves as conservatives, really think Sarah Palin was qualified for national office because she was spunky and clever. No wonder they don't get Obama.

Clivesdad--well said
I agree! Keep parker on TH for all the reasons Clivesdad listed.

Seeing parker in right wing mode is like seeing the wolf wearing grandma's pajamas...it's obvious and silly, and doesn't fool anyone--but it is good for reading entertainment.

Gestell
"Here's another bouquet from a liberal for Ms. Parker..."

Says it all....

gestell: bitee moi
Haha, typical lib: so full of yourself that you can't see just how educated, conservative Americans detest snotty elitists like yourself--selling out your country for the power mongers in DC.

My priest speaks Latin, Greek is irrelevant these days and French (in which I foolishly minored, thank you very much) is the language of the demimonde and snobs like yourself. French is not even useful for spying or diplomacy anymore.

Your precious obama and his wife do not speak French, Latin (except for legal terms), or Greek---and neither of them has ever studied those cultures or visited those parts of the world. Talk about your sheltered ignorants...

At least Sarah Palin is "spunky and clever" as opposed to calculated and conniving. Besides, it was the libs best Republican, McCain, who chose her. Had a real conservative been nominated this whole argument would be even more pointless.

Oh, and I "get" obama...never fear. Unfortunately, we all "get" obama for the next four years...

Words?
OK - complete sentences? Please - Obama's er, uh, We spend as much...we spend as much as... wait just a minute...

Words yet to be discovered? There is the unintellegible "yuh 'oh" which Obama uses in almost every sentence and which seems to translate to the meaningless "you know" - No, your inability to express something is not made clear by this phrase, Mr. Obama.

miltm- LA, KY, any other state?
Milt,
You have already made assumptions about the intellect of Louisianans and Kentuckians, care to add any other state that isn't brilliant and intelligent like your California?

We are going to talk about intellect, I have a Governor, who was trained at Oxford, and you have The Auhnold, who trained at Gold's Gym. One achieved his fame by brains and the other by brawn.

BTW, just because James Carville is "a guy in my neighborhood" does not mean that I am as dumb or look like an inbreed. And, he is not reflective of Louisiana, as a whole.

Parker
Please stop posting this poor woman's embarrassing drivel.

Why not offer her a glowing recommendation to take up literary residence at the Huffington Post.

Get Her Out of Here!!!
I am also tired of this woman, what a bozo. Milt, I am from CA, and I can tell you, there is nothing intelligent about the People's Republic of CA. I mean, look at our flag, we have the bear of Russia, the red star of China, with the words, "California republic." Arnold is a huge dissapointment.

When I log on
to this website, I expect to read intelligent, conservative commentary and to be educated on current events. I know what idiots like KP already believe, I don't want to see it here. Here comes the fairness doctrine...

Intolerance begats ignorance...
Once you close your mind towards trying to understand differing viewpoints--you create a onesided education game in which you only learn what you already know. That isn't good for anyone--except enemies of the U.S. like Al Qaida.

Unrealistic
This is a ridiculous commentary, fill with unrealistic exuberance, even Pauli Anna herself would ask you to curb your enthusiasm.

Jerry in Chicago, a favor
PLEASE teach Gestell about Obama since not only do you "get" him, but you have HAD him. Maybe, a little Obamacation would remove the bliss of ignorance.

Gestell, we do understand Obama and that is why we don't want him. His election may have been approved by 90% of the world, as KP would believe, but the number was much lower here. And, whether or not we believe that Palin was qualified for Vice-President has little bearing on whether Obama has the experience and gravitas needed to be President... even Hillary and Biden questioned his readiness.

The Grumpy Old Party
I'm so glad to see the dismissive attitudes towards Parkers piece, but then I'm a liberal.

What gives me succor is that while the Dems are focusing on expanding their coalition, the conservative movement is setting its' targets on who to expell from its' ranks.

Is it any wonder that new voter registration for the Grumpy Old Party has actually DECLINED BY 1 MILLION?

Listen
Listen people. I do not intend on reading anymore from this person. I had hoped she would have something worth reading again but it was a waste of time and clearly an insult to those of us who are from the generation to know what "Leave it to Beaver" represented. Obama and Ward ? Forget it. Boycott this writer of nonsense. Do not respond with posts. Maybe she will be discontinued or leave to a website more in line with all the tingling over our president-elect. That said, I feel better and smile as I say my last goodbye to this woman of no substance like her articles.....

Just add it to the list...
...Obama's going to unite the world, end all wars, lower the temperature of the Earth, create magical alternative energy sources, give us Health Care, a college education, create jobs and now the latest: He is going to strengthen families all around the country!

Folks need to stop comparing Obama to Jesus. As I don't know if Jesus could walk in the shoes of such a great man as Barack Obama!

caveat emptor
Town Hall--Why are you still carrying Parker's column?? The fact that she is obviously a kool-aid drinker is one thing, but to expect us to accept the drivel that style does in fact trump substance is insulting. Stop trying to sell us on Obama. Ms. Parker has swallowed the Obama "sell" but many of us are more savvy shoppers and we are not buying.

stylish say.
Kathleen, your point on style is well-made. I agree that Obama is much better equipped to negotiate with the world than George Bush. Now, style over substance--that also seems to be a descriptor of the illuminati elect. I hope that while he's putting his best foot forward with the nations, he can make substantive sense out of vague promises and stand up for our country.

It appears investors agree with Parker
When news leaked of Obama's Treasury appointee late last Friday, the market shot up 400 pts in an hour, and has seen gains with every news conference and announcement from team Obama this week.

How soon Townhall????
How soon till Townhall and other conservative outlets begin running op/ed pieces by Maureen Dowd and Ariana Huffington?

c'mon it's become more than obvious that Parker is no more conservative than Michael Moore.

Harpy
blech.

to give Kathleen her weekly 1 rating and also to read some of the comments. Don't even to bother reading any of her columns since it's filled with the ramblings of a person suffering from psychosis. The only thing she should be writing is what's on the menu for dinner. Get back in the kitchen witch.

Terry/GA - you forgot something else

You forgot that "National Security Force that is "every bit as strong and well-funded as the military". I'm sure bryce1 would join. People like bryce would love to voluteer a couple of years of their lives goosestepping and paying homage to their Dear Leader.

"Every bit as strong and well funded?" Obamamots with nuclear weapons? All of a sudden the lunatics of Iran and North Korea would look tame.

Not the kitchen, please.

Good grief, if she cooks like she writes, we all would need food tasters. She is hard enough to swallow as it is. If you meant to suggest that KP stands for kitchen patrol, then I would agree that scrubbing pots and pans would work!

Move her to KOS
This woman is no conservative.

Heaven forbid. If she cooks as bad as she writes, we would all need taste testers. She is bad enough to swallow as a writer. Now, if you mean KP, as in kitchen patrol, then scubbing pots and pans is an appropriate position for a hack of her skills.

drivel by this failed writer
The article is nothing more than a vapid mind spurt. Ms. Parker has disgraced herself as a writer. I donot wonder any longer why I rarely read anything on Townhall.

Just Go Away
When will this bimbo phoney go away? The only support she receives on TH is from trolls.

Parker nobody is buying it.....
I realize you have wanted Barak to be president a really long time but making statements without facts to back them up is like - hoping Barak will become the experienced leader we need in these troubled times. Unfortunately, style is not as important as the ability to get things done. Your article assumes, Barak has american interests in mind but that assumption is not backed by any facts. Of course the world loves him. Judging by the way Russia, Venezuela, Poland, China and Iran have become clear about their nuclear and missile program, makes a rational person realize they know a weak man when they see one. Barak is so weak Al Qaeda calls him names on video and attacks Mumbai in the same week. His weak and lacks any necessary experience to make you or his other followers believe he can 'market' any idea. For that to happen, he would have to have gained some respect and so far, the world's response shows little respect or reverence for our president elect. BTW, what will you say when we get attacked? That Barak's lack of action is the change we can believe in? You and your fellow Barak worshippers should stop marketing him to us, he won the election and based on his decision to keep Gates as Secretary of Defense - we can conclude even he realizes how clueless he is as president.God help us all.

"Ooze marital bliss"????
You've got to be kidding. My 40-something daughter and her friends all voted for Barack because they believe Michelle "runs the show." She interrupts him in interviews and "oozes" feminist angst. They look like they have one of those trendy 21st century "partnership" where each has negotiated a self-serving role and consolation prizes are discussed with clenched teeth. Bill and Hillary come to mind..."oozing marital bliss"...I think not.

CCloud
yes, woman are the problem. When did you lose control of your daughter?

World popularity a shabby prize
It never even occurs to Ms. Parker that wanting and gaining the approval of a hypocritical world that has a worse record than the United States might be a BAD thing.

Did she also crave the approval of Islamic terrorists and their supporters? They overwhelmingly backed and approve the choice of Obama! And just went about their usual murderous business in India, confident that the weenie elect won't be interfering.

Coming soon to a city near you, Ms. Parker!

Correction
Ms. Parker is actually incorrect when she states that the Obamas are not significantly different from the Bushes. The Counterfeit Cowboy and his wife-unit are on the rocks. Also, the children of the corn-rows have not yet gotten any DUIs.

yo again, PATim
I was just not sure why you referred to Obama as He and Him in the same sentence -- by doing so, you are grammatically inferring someone is divine. I can't believe that was your intent and had to chuckle when I read your comment.

So yes, I suppose I was making something of it. Please don't be offended. I like Obama too, but I just don't see the divine in him [Him] like you seem to.

You must of had a very tough time in the voting booth.

Changes?

didnt do good. shes that bad ??They were expecting more of a change this quick???

haha
Does she even know what shes talking about??

Get rid of Parker...
How is Parker still on Townhall??? Seriously, I don't want to censor her, but this site is supposed to have conservative columnists. If we're going to have her, why not Maureen Dowd or something?

Just a Democrat under the skin
"some excoriate Parker here for suggesting Obama's family values could possibly serve as a role model in reversing the tragic dissolution of the black family in America"

Well, the problem is that this particular model black family has a giant chip on both parents' shoulders as though they had just come in from being field slaves instead of benefiting from the best education and jobs available. In fact, judging by her lame high school level thesis at Princeton and his lockdown of his academic records, they may have been affirmative action beneficiaries. That didn't stop them from drinking in their chosen reverend's anti-white bigotry for twenty years of Sundays.

That sense of "whitey owes us" (completely ridiculous considering Obama's own history where the white side of the family are the only ones who paid up) is what black voters responded to, that and the usual promise of more generous handouts. Their comments to pollsters had nothing to do with how they were inspired to stop having children out of wedlock or work hard at school. Instead, they were all about how their gravy train was coming in.

Ward Cleaver would have expected people to work for their own money as he did and would have lectured the recalcitrants like fast Eddie Haskell instead of reaching into his neighbor's pocket to give the layabout money.

He would have explained that handouts are what destroyed the black family to begin with instead of handing out more of the same poison. Obama's just another pusher of Welfare addiction for votes like all Democrats except it's a personal betrayal of the race he claims to be...what's the term for a white Democrat passing for black? Shameless?

Obama not a NATURAL BORN US Citizen!
MORE INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE!!!

Here’s 2 responses back from South Carolina and Connecticut for request for records on Obama not being born on American soil:
1) South Carolina: RESPONSE FROM SECRETARY OF STATE SOUTH CAROLINA: PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO PAGE 2 IN WHICH THE CHAIR OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF SOUTH CAROLINA [CAROL FOWLER] UNEQUIVOCALLY STATES THE CANDIDATES ALL QUALIFY FOR THE OFFICE IN WHICH THEY ARE RUNNING WHEN SHE'S NEVER SEEN OBAMA'S REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

2) Connecticut: RESPONSE FROM SECRETARY OF STATE OF Connecticut, BIG PROBLEMS WITH THIS FOR HER. He was supposed to be vetted BEFORE he ran for office - 3 months later her excuse is based on a PRESS CONFERENCE [not a court of law] where Hawaii officials never actually verified he was born in Hawaii - they only stated they have his original birth certificate "on file," and refused to answer if the original certificate of live birth was a Kenyan one or a Hawaiian one.

Parker
is apparently having a hard time getting a job with Obama. Townhall, you should send Parker over to the Daily Kook or the Huffington Puke where Obama will notice her.

Parker can probably get a job cleaning Obama's toilet and since micHELLe has complained that Obama always clogs the toilet and leaves, Parker can deal first hand with Obama's crap.

We've really lowered our standards for..
what qualifies as a "conservative" these days haven't we? We is this woman getting her columns posted on TH? This is another one of those faux conservatives that enjoys telling the traditional conservatives that their ideas are out-dated and no-longer relevant. Traditional conservatives are the only ones left in this country that are trying to preserve what's left of the Constitution, so to say that traditional conservatism is out-dated is like saying the Constitution is no longer relevant.

Kathleen, please make the plunge and join the Democrat party. We don't need anymore "conservatives" like you.

Intelligence and education will never
be popular with this crowd, Kathleen.

To quote...
... that astute political pundit, Alfred E. Neuman, "Blecch!"

When does Parker's contract with Townhall expire?

Got Change
It does my heart good to see the strong upsurge of bs detectors firing full on with this most recent OBAMA love doctrine. KP came to prominence, writing about southern life its charm etc. Now we have stories about a black nanny who raised her, vituperative attacks on Palin, blind love for Obama and defense of the media. We need to force Town Hall to remove her contributions - there is nothing she has to say that separates her from the rest of the liberal media. Lets turn this ground swell against her and get TownHall to remove her - its a small victory but one none the less.

PA Tim
yo, me again.

That is my point: you seem to strongly dislike him politically yet you refer to him as “Him, He” – as in the divine. Or maybe you think all politicians are gods. I certainly don’t. Try writing a sentence referring to McCain or Palin and see what happens.

Freudian slip definition: A verbal mistake that is thought to reveal an unconscious belief, thought, or emotion.

What color shirts ...
should the Obama / Gates civilian military force wear?

I'm thinking that brown is too obvious, and will tend to make people think that we are veering into a police state under Barack.

So how about a lovley lavender polyester.

Something sensible and easily cleaned is just the ticket for the new regime.

What do you say, Kathleen? You have a stake in the new regime. What color do you suggest?

Maybe a bright yellow? or how about a stunning silk TURNCOAT?

Beastie Boy
'Intelligence and education will never be popular with this crowd, Kathleen.'

On the contrary, Beastie Boy - with an emphasis on the 'boy'.

Intelligence and education is what defines this 'crowd'. That's why most here can see clearly through KP and reject what she has to scribble. We don't like her attempt to use her position as 'conservative' columnist to sell disinformation and sugar coat the dhimmi fascism at this site.

She wants to please, serve her editorial masters who are anxious that she maintain the allusion that she's a conservative. In that way, she's of most use as a 5th columnist infiltrator. In addition, she's married to a lawyer who wants to get in on the feeding frenzy the leftist legal profession is preparing to unleash.

We, at least, on this board, prefer not to promote her or her husbands treachery.

If she wants to continue to draw and inspire INTELLIGENT, EDUCATED and LASTING criticism and opposition, then let her continue to spout her drivel. She will find no rehabilitation here.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Kathy Parker - Part 1

Kathy Parker writes: “Setting aside the obvious -- complete sentences, free of words yet to be discovered --”

Have you not noticed your new dear leader’s diction when he isn’t reading from a teleprompter? Have you tried to count the “ah, um, a, uh” as he gropes for words to fill air-time without ever actually saying anything?

~~~
Kathy Parker writes: “As Jeff Gedmin, president of Radio Free Europe, recently put it: Obama is a weapon of mass attraction. That attractiveness isn't just physical, but is a matter of style. Before the harrumphers tune up, no one's arguing for style over substance, but style does matter.”
A) Who is “Jeff Gedmin”, and when did you become one of his disciples?
B) Not sure what to say about “that attractiveness isn’t just physical”, guess I’ll have to chalk that one up to “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
C) You are arguing *exactly* for style over substance, and you know it, so you preemptively try to deny it. But denying it doesn’t change the truth, Kathy. It just means you’re content to live in denial.
~~~

Kathy Parker writes: “Style isn't just cosmetic, but has to do with the way one enters and takes a room's temperature. Style is the instinct to swagger -- or not.”

Shallowness isn’t just cosmetic either, Kathy, but has to do with the way one attributes importance and meaning to “style” and appearances.

~~~
Kathy Parker writes: “Speaking recently at the Ethics and Public Policy Center here about public diplomacy,”
Clearly, you’re very taken with this Mr. Gedmin, which seems odd, considering “Dr. Gedmin has been… a regular columnist for Die Welt, often promoting and attempting to justify the politics of the Bush administration in the Middle East,” (Wiki) an administration you seem to despise… or is it just their “style” you find so repugnant?
(continued next post)
Kathy Parker - Part 2
Kathy Parker writes: “Gedmin pointed out that George Bush's "bring 'em on" cowboy style worked for about half the American people and about 5 percent of the globe. By comparison, he said, Obama's style resonates with about 90 percent of the world.”
Does Gedmin have any evidence to substantiate this wild assertion, or is he just talking out of the orifice that faces the opposite direction of his mouth?
A) The “bring ‘em on cowboy style” is a myth perpetrated by people just like you, Kathy. You (and people in the media like you) took one exclamation and created an entire caricature out of it, and then acted like the caricature you created was the real man, and with time and repetition, your chosen perception became your reality. It probably has something to do with your “style vs. substance” issues.
B) If it actually turned out to be true that “Obama’s style resonates with about 90 percent of the world”, then the “world” is in great trouble indeed. We can follow the “world” and try to be like it, or we can choose to follow the truth.
Those are the two choices we have, and everybody chooses, one way or another.
"If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." (John 15:19, KJV)
(continued next post)
Kathy Parker - Part 3
Kathy Parker writes: “Both Gedmin and fellow speaker Kenneth Pollack -- a Persian Gulf expert and author of "A Path Out of the Desert" -- agreed that the messenger, as well as the message, matters. How successfully the U.S. communicates its interests to the rest of the world turns in part on who is delivering the information and how the "sale" is pitched.”
The problem with that approach is that the truth is always the truth no matter how unpopular it may be, and it is the avoidance of truth, the desire to “couch” the truth in spin and deceit or to ignore the truth in the name of political correctness (or “ecumenism”) that leads to most (if not all) of the problems in the world to begin with.
It doesn’t matter how “silver” your tongue is. Lies and deceit are still lies and deceit, and no good will come of it.
It is extraordinary, the extent to which so many otherwise intelligent people have fallen for the “image of Obama” and projected all of their hopes and desires onto him. The disappointment, when it surely comes, is going to be devastating.
(continued next post)
Kathy Parker - Part 4
Kathy Parker: “ ‘Sale’ gets quotation marks because, says Pollack, we need to stop thinking in terms of selling and advertising. Rather, the best marketing tool for "selling" liberal democratic values (much like religious conviction) is to by living those values rather than by preaching or trying to impose them.”
What “values” do you mean, and if they are good ones, how long will it be until we are all living by them? To propose a standard which will never be met in order to demean any effort that falls short of perfection is a classic Leftist “dodge”…
What you “need to” do is get over yourself, and stop thinking you have the ability to change the world through slogans and platitudes, or any other way, for that matter.
Many of the so-called “liberal democratic values” that are “promoted” by our country (pornography, promiscuity, gambling, drugs and alcohol, the general promotion of immorality and excess of all kinds, etc.) are exactly what most of our Islamic enemies hate about us, Kathy. Putting an “Obama happy face” on it won’t change a thing.
Now, if you want to try to clean up the cesspool that American culture has become at the hands of secular humanists, on an individual level I believe lives can be changed for the better.
But you’re not going to change the world Kathy, and neither is your new friend Barack, because it has all been done before. Each generation must re-learn the same lessons, it has always been so.
"The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun. [10] Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. [11] [There is] no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after." (Ecc 1:9)
(cont next post)
Kathy Parker - Part 5
Kathy Parker writes: “Sometimes our values and interests intersect; sometimes they don't. To the extent Obama understands that concept -- and he seems to -- then he is change.”
Another cheap-shot at President Bush, and another endorsement for style over substance.
~~~

Kathy Parker: “On the domestic front, what does he offer?”

You mean besides a total lack of executive leadership experience, magnified during a time of war and financial crisis? Well, he offers the promise of higher taxes, uncontrolled borders, gun ownership restrictions, bigger gov’t, promotion of class-warfare, restrictions on free speech, and packing the Supreme Court with scofflaws who will enshrine the “right” to murder unborn children for the next generation. Our opportunity to turn away from that path has now passed, and God will determine the punishment.

~~~
Kathy Parker: “Again, setting aside specific policies, Obama's example could have society-altering effects, especially in the African-American community. By his example, he telegraphs the following messages: Being smart is good; education is good; being a good father is essential. Being an egghead is cool.”
“Messages”, “who is delivering the information”, “how the ‘sale’ is pitched”… it just couldn’t be any more shallow, Kathy.
~~~

Kathy Parker: “Conservatives insist, correctly, that culture matters. Many liberals think so, too, by the way.”

You do mean liberals like yourself?

~~~
Kathy Parker: “Why, some liberals even stay married their entire lives to the same person and raise children to do the same.”
Yes, in any large population, there are bound to be exceptions to the rule, and conservatives are probably not far behind liberals when it comes to marriage and divorce, because most people have forgotten God, or ignored His Word, or were never taught God’s Word in the first place.
(continued next post)
Kathy Parker - Part 6
Kathy Parker writes: “You want Ward Cleaver? Meet Barack Obama.”
No.
Ward Cleaver didn’t smoke pot and snort cocaine. Ward Cleaver was not a member of an America-hating, racist church for 20+ years. Ward Cleaver didn’t hang around with America-hating communists who bombed government buildings and killed people. Ward Cleaver was not a crass opportunist who said or did whatever he thought people wanted to hear in order to advance himself. I am sure that Ward Cleaver was far from perfect, both the character and the actor who played him, but Barack Obama, he was certainly not.
~~~

Kathy Parker writes: “Michelle is June Cleaver with a law degree.”

Was June Cleaver ashamed of her country? Was June Cleaver a bitter and angry black woman with a chip on her shoulder the size of Mount Rushmore? Was June Cleaver a 20+ year member of a black “liberation theology” church, the modern equivalent of a KKK-type organization?

~~~
Kathy Parker writes: “Family values don't get any more traditional than the Obamas, who ooze marital bliss and whose adorable daughters make feminist cynics want to bake cookies and learn to smock.”
Your worship of “image” is revolting, Kathy. Because of the bubble in which you apparently live, you may not even realize you’re doing it.
And there are no “feminist cynics” who now want to “bake cookies and learn to smock” because of the “image” presented by the Obama’s, unless they were mindless lemmings to begin with.
~~~

Kathy Parker writes: “Though we may perish of boredom, the Obamas may do more to elevate the American family than all the pro-marriage initiatives conceived by those who claim to speak for the deity.”

What are you trying to “Sell” here, Kathy?

And who is “the deity”?

Can’t you even bring yourself to call Him God, or do you worship at the altar of Political Correctness?

(continued next post)

Kathy Parker - Part 7 of 7

Kathy Parker writes: “As a family unit, they're not significantly different from the Bushes, but they can be an inspiration particularly to the African-American community.”

That’s great, good material for a PBS or BET “after-school special” no doubt, but it’s hardly a good reason to elect him president of the United States…

~~~
Kathy Parker writes: “The change we've been waiting for may not be immediately quantifiable, but personal responsibility, educational ambition and smart public diplomacy -- all by example rather than exhortation -- could go a long way toward curing what ails us.”
Didn’t you hear? According to your anointed one, “We ARE the change we’ve been waiting for”, Kathy. It will be interesting to see just how that works out, won’t it?
The Kool-Aid you’ve been drinking is a most remarkable shade of purple…
"Though we may perish of boredom, the Obamas may do more to elevate the American family than all the pro-marriage initiatives conceived by those who claim to speak for the deity."
So, who is it "claim(ing) to speak for the deity"? And, how is it Ms. Parker thinks that she's been anointed to see more clearly than any of those ... silly Judeo-Christian lunatics?
Sorry, Kathleen. I used to think you were fairly even-handed... and a pretty face, to boot. Now... well, not so much. I'm done reading your tripe.
Scott
Thanks for parsing KP's propaganda/pablum piece out. It was nauseating and rather droll in spots.
“Again, setting aside specific policies, Obama's example could have society-altering effects, especially in the African-American community. By his example, he telegraphs the following messages: Being smart is good; education is good; being a good father is essential. Being an egghead is cool.”
He hasn't done a thing, besides running a campaign of lies and deceit, aided and abetted by a dog-like media, and persuading the uninformed, socialist-greedy and racist/guilty portion of the electorate to give him 4 years in the White House.
Is this the best definition of these traits and values?
She goes on to list the maladies of the Black family and their development under '...misguided policies that have decimated the family.'
But no where does she correctly identify them as LIBERAL conceived and DEMOCRAT sponsored and passed policies and initiatives.
After a term of the the Oblahma's spouting their Black grievance, victimology and reparations creed (i.e the liberal shtick), and more legislated theft and dependence slavery, I'd like to see KP's words thrown squarely back in her smug face.
TOWNHALL: Get rid of Kathleen Parker!
Absolutely ridiculous article
B Hussein Obama is an excellent example of what Black Americans should be. The ULTIMATE SUCK UP to the right people, in high places, who can give you a free leg up in getting what you want and then he kicks them to the curb.
He is The Great Manipulator beginning with the press and ending with educated, otherwise intelligent American citizens who suffer from Slave Guilt.
He is a mere well spoken puppet to the Democratic Hierarchy (Super Elites: George Soros and his circle of Rich Friends, with the aide of MoveOn.com founders and friends Wes & Joy Blade and Eli Periser, founder of 9-11peace.org) They will be pulling the strings and we all get to watch BHO dance to their tune.
BHO is definately an example of the BEST LIAR to the 21st century. An EXCELLENT teacher and example to his race. Lucky for him, every lie, and flip flop, he spouted was ignored by the media and the majority of the population remained uninformed.
Also the concensus of the Black Americans who voted for him shows that they did not vote on the issues or on their own moral values (i.e. Blacks helped push prop 8 to win in California). They voted for him soley because he is BLACK. People that vote on the basis of race, sex, or religion alone should not be allowed to vote at all. But that's another issue. (The dumbing down of America).
RE Got Change?
The point is that K.P. is irrelevant to the conservative cause. She's just a beltway elitist lib, who has finally come out in the open, under her true colors. If this is a direct result of Obama's victory against one of her companiero RINOs, then that's a good thing. Maybe more of them will be flushed out of their hidey-holes in the woodwork and be flushed down, in a more appropriate place.
The question of why is she still writing for Townhall is still waiting to be answered.
Kathleen: Go Join the Dems!
Well, Ms. Parker, you did everything you could to help your fellow lib, Obama, get elected. Now you are trying to suck up to him in every way possible. I guess you cannot live without those state dinners in D.C. Those of us on the real right, you know, the "oogedy boogedy" people would like you, and your fellow RINOs (i.e. Noonan, Powell, Buckley, ect.) to please get out of our party! We, the true conservatives of America, refuse to surrender the GOP to the likes of you and your fellow anti-Christian bigots! I'm quite sure the Democrats, Libertarians, or maybe even the Green party would love to have you. As for us, we will simply say good ridance.
Barack O'Bummer has a tough job.
Kathleen Parker writes;
"Fallout from fatherless homes can be measured in poverty and crime rates. Justice Department figures (2002) show that among males ages 25-29, 12.9 percent of blacks were in prison or jail, compared to 4.3 percent of Hispanics and 1.6 percent of whites."
And yet the Jessie Jacksons and the Al Sharptons continue to blame everyone else for their failures as leaders in the community.
What is interesting is when liberals began their "Great Society" programs 40 years ago, they said their programs would solve all these problems of poverty, poor healthcare, education, crime, etc. etc.
Now after spending trillions, we see these very same problems have only gotten worse while at the same time taxing the middle class almost out of existance.
Oh the damage liberals have done to society.
When beggars ask me for change
I tell them to call Obama.
KATHLEENS A READIN THA BUMPER STICKERS!
GOT CHANGE? Sounds menopausal to to me....Wow, Kathleens been reading Obama Bumper stickers!!!
Isn't is interesting how Kathleen trashed Sarah Palin for being a June Cleaver like mom with a leave it to Beaver family that was Conservative and now she does a complete flip flop and commends Obama and his wife Michele for being fine examples of a liberal values Leave it to Beaver family.
Whats Kathleen been taking for her hot flashes anyhow???
One things for sure...Obama has surrounded himself with the same CFR crowd and Wall Street crowd that were involved in looting the American Treasury, not to mention all the Clintonistas....and maybe Kathleen is correct about her racial fixation that Obama just might be the very change he was talking about.
Afterall, it was Obama who said: "We are the ones we have been waiting for." Obviously, there is no change because the same CFR Globalist Insiders are still running the show. So, GOT SCREWED!!?? should really be the title of Kathleen's column.
The Parker Problem
Why is this RINO still a featured writer in a conservative website like this?
I didn't read it. I just showed up to vote against her.
I will never forgive. Never.
Scott from OH
is infatuated with Kathy Parker
patbo
Hey Ms. Parker your infatuation with BO is as strange and creepy as it was with the liberals that supported him. Must mean you are a liberal too. Why Townhall keeps you on in a conservative journal is a complete mystery to me. Go write for Slate!
RINO?
Ok, so there's a lot of bandying about the term RINO, which I'm going to assume stands for "Republican In Name Only". This begs the question, who gets to decide what constitutes a "Real" Republican? And what are the requirements for entry to this august club?
nomo from Wisconsin
Well done, nomo! What's next in your bag of rhetorical wizardry, "my dad's bigger than your dad"?
Serious problems
You people need to get a life. Makes me ashamed to be a conservative. Such hatred
To Andy and sophie...
ANDY
Andy writes: "Serious problems - You people need to get a life. Makes me ashamed to be a conservative. Such hatred"
To whom are you referring when you say "you people" and “such hatred”? There are 184 posts in this Thread by more than 100 different people, representing a range of viewpoints.
If you have a dispute with someone's position, quote them, and then make your best case. It's easy.
But blanket condemnations don't serve any purpose whatsoever. The people you mean to attack don't know if you're referring to them, and the people you might agree with don't know that either.
Blanket condemnations are pointless, Andy.
sophie writes: “No kidding Andy! - These people make me ashamed we are the same species!”
As with Andy, to whom, specifically, are you referring? Have the courage to identify the target of your displeasure, and then challenge him or her based on the position they have taken and what they have actually said.
For example, if you disagree with something I’ve said, then quote me and make your best case. It’s simple.
A quick word search shows that neither you or Andy participated in this Thread previously, you both just swooped in after-the-fact and pronounced summary judgment on all the participants. To what possible purpose have you conducted yourselves in this way?
~~~

sophie writes: “Their positions must be pretty weak though, if they are so threatened and angered by a different point of view within their ranks...”

You might be right (and I might agree with you), or you might be wrong, but how will anyone ever know if all you do is paint all 100+ participants in this thread with the same broad brush and don’t even bother to present your own case?

What kind of person does that and expects to be taken seriously?

Would you take a person like that seriously, sophie?

sophie

Hi sophie, I see you were writing at the same time I was writing my previous post. This is good. Let’s take a look at what you have said, and then everyone can decide for him or herself whether your positions have merit.

sophie writes: “Poor Phil! Women scare you, don't they? That could be the only explanation for such hateful sexist garbage you posted.”

Is this anything besides a personal, ad-hominem attack, sophie? You have not quoted Phil or responded intelligently to whatever he might have said that you disagree with, you just attacked him personally. To what purpose? What have you proven? That you can be just a "nasty" as you think he is?

~~~
sophie writes: “Didn't Mommy love you enough little Phil?”
It is beginning to seem that you might be the one with “hateful” and “sexist” issues, sophie. Did it not occur to you how your own vitriol would come across?
~~~

sophie writes: “If Kathleen scares you so much, you are under no obligation to read her columns little boy.”

How would you respond if you were referred to as a “little girl”, sophie? Would that be “sexist”, or just mean-spirited? And which one are you being when you call someone else a “little boy”?

~~~
sophie writes: “In case you haven't noticed, far right religious fundamentalists are certainly the fringe within our society and you are becoming increasingly irrelvent and marginal within your own party.”
At last, some actual information. Clearly you differentiate yourself here from the Republican party, so why should anyone believe that your unsubstantiated personal attacks are anything more than a common, partisan hack-job?
Please define “far right religious fundamentalist” for all of us, sophie. It would be helpful to understand exactly who and what you mean by that expression.
Got Change?
I think it is fair to say that being pro-abortion disqualifies one as serious promoter of family values. That is typical of the self-delusion that many Americans have fallen prey to. Every aspect of one's life is relevant to the story he tries to tell. Obama doesn't make the cut with those who believe the bible.
Kathleen Parker is the Evolved Branch
We Republicans need to understand that we lost the election and will continue to lose because of the success of our public school system.
Kathleen Parker, brave columnist that she is, is part of the evolved branch of the GOP and she understands in ways you simpletons can't. I mean no disrespect because you're all still clinging to your guns and religion (which reminds me, didn't you people ever take a biology class?).
Keep writing, Ms. Parker, the trolls of Townhall need your wisdom - ten years from now they'll understand.
Barack Obama is going to be America's greatest president!
I'm true to who I am,
Howie!
sophie - reply to post #193 (Part 1)
sophie writes: “As for your posts I looked back and there is a silly one discussing the comparison between the Cleavers and the Obamas...”
That “silly” comparison was Ms. Parker’s, I was only pointing out the absurdity of the point she was attempting to make.
~~~

sophie writes: “First let me clue you in on one important fact.”

Yes, please do…

~~~
sophie writes: “Not only were the Cleavers a fictional family, they were a fictional family that lived in a fictional america.”
Of course they were a fictional family, but that is irrelevant to the discussion; it was Ms. Parker who brought them into the discussion, not I.
~~~

sophie writes: “There was no racism in their fictionl world or child abuse or poverty or any of the other many social ills that have plagued our country.”

Irrelevant. If it was relevant to the point Ms. Parker was trying to make, she would have mentioned those things.

She didn’t.

And now you’re trying to “flack” for her, putting words in her mouth and speaking on her behalf, without any authority to do so.

~~~
sophie writes: “Secondly, I believe Parker was trying to make the point that the Obama family is the ideal example of "family values" and a positive role model for all americans, but especially black americans.”
What you do or don’t believe about what Ms. Parker might (or might not) have been trying to do is once again irrelevant, unless you can substantiate your suppositions and naked assertions.
sophie - reply to post #193 (Part 2)
sophie writes: “And in fact they are.”
If it is a “fact”, then certainly you will present evidence which proves it beyond doubt.
I won’t be holding my breath waiting…
~~~

sophie writes: “Thirdly there was a bunch of nonsense in your post that suggests that you have bought into a lot of ridiculous propoganda (i.e. racist church, Michelle never being proud of america, etc...)”

Is it “propaganda” when I see the videotape(s) with my own eyes and hear her words (and the words of Wright and Flager) with my own ears?

Or are you in the black-helicopter conspiracy-theorist camp with those who think that tape was made by the same kind of people who supposedly faked the moon landing in 1969?

~~~
sophie writes: “Why don't you try to get an unbiased perspective on your own instead of swallowing all the distorted right wing talking points hook line and sinker?”
How much more “unbiased” of a perspective could I get than hearing their own words from their own lips?
It sounds like you want people to get their information from other sources, sources that ARE biased, but biased in the way you want them to be, as opposed to the way things really are, once again, according to the people who said them (i.e., the Obamas, Wright, Flager, etc.).
sophie - Fundamental/religious right (1)
sophie writes: “Believing in the bible literally.”
What part of it do you think is not “literal”? Because there is a lot of confusion on this point. Clearly there are parts of the Bible that are figurative (e.g., we are told that the parables are just that, parables, not literal), while other parts are just as clearly literal.
Generally speaking, the Bible is much like any other book meant to convey information to a reader, insofar as we ought to take what the Author says literally unless we have good cause to think a verse or passage was meant figuratively.
Or, there are people who think that none of the Bible should be taken literally, but that’s a silly and self-defeating argument that is usually made out of intellectual laziness, sort of a “toss-off” comment.
I believe the Scriptures contained in the Bible are the revelation of God, that they were faithfully recorded by men who were inspired by God, and that these writings have been preserved through time. If God is real (as I believe He is), it is certainly well within the power and capability of the Creator of the world and everything in it to make sure His Word is accurately written down and preserved.
If you believe otherwise, you are free to present your best argument, of course.
(continued next post)
sophie - Fundamental/religious right (2)
sophie writes: “Wanting to impose religion and/or moral beliefs on others (abortion, homosexuality, etc...)”
There is no compulsion in matters of religion, and there is no Scriptural Authority to “impose” religious beliefs on others, neither could such an approach ever succeed.
But that’s not what you’re really saying or talking about, that’s just the spin.
In the United States, Christians have the same rights that you do to advocate for policies they believe in, and to vote for people who represent their beliefs and values, just as you do. That is a far cry from “imposing” anything, and you know it, and so does everyone else.
Conversely, you have no right to “impose” your “religion and/or moral beliefs” (abortion, homosexuality, etc.) on Christians, either. Yet, you seem perfectly comfortable in thinking it is fine to do so, while not recognizing the rights of those with whom you disagree.
~~~

sophie writes: “Disdain/contempt for other religious viewpoints.”

Someone who truly believes in and follows God’s Word in the Bible does not have disdain or contempt for other religious viewpoints, it’s not even necessary; but he is obligated to explain the error of false beliefs, whether those are false beliefs that are embraced by Christians, or whether they are beliefs in false gods and false religions.

~~~
sophie writes: “Disrespect for the concept of separation of church and state.”
That expression has been abused so much by your side of the debate that it has become little more than comic relief. It is a red-herring used to divert a discussion to a whole host of other issues that have nothing to do with the central discussion.
(continued next post)
sophie - Fundamental/religious right (3)
sophie writes: “Contempt for science (i.e. evolution, stem cell research, etc...)”
That is another fallacy. Without religion and the beliefs of religious men, there would not have been a Renaissance, or science as we know it today. Without religious men, the knowledge of the ancient world would not have been preserved through the Dark Ages. If you have issues with the Roman Catholic Church and the way it has conducted itself over the centuries, please take it up with the RCC (and good luck to you, you’ll need it!), but leave God and His Word out of it. Let the RCC account for itself. There is nothing in Scripture that is opposed to science or learning or the desire to understand the world around us. If not for science (and related fields like archeology), we would not have nearly so much evidence verifying and validating the truth of so many Biblical accounts, and new discoveries verifying Scripture are still being made with great frequency.
Evolution (macro) is a “Theory”, and stem-cell research is an “end-around” for pro-abortionists.
~~~

sophie writes: “Excessive sanctimony and hypocrisy.”

There are many false teachers gone out into the world (cf. 1 John 4:1), and many others are wolves in sheep’s clothing (cf. Matthew 7:15) and false teachers will rise up from among the saints (cf. 2 Peter 2:1), doing and saying things in the name of Christ for which they have no Scriptural Authority, and conducting themselves in ways that are directly opposed to Christ.

But there are many people, probably many more than you suspect, who take the Word of God quite seriously. Like all human beings they are far from perfect, but that does not make them “sanctimonious” or “hypocritical” unless your standard is perfection.

There has only been One who was and is perfect. His name is Jesus, and He is the Son of God.

(concluded next post)

sophie - Fundamental/religious right (4)

sophie writes: “Please note that most christians are good people and do not fall into this category.”

Into what category? You have merely posted a litany of grievances you have against anyone with whom you disagree.

How do you define “good people” that you claim “most Christians” are?

I suspect those you consider “good” are those who are accepting of and who share your liberal viewpoints on things like “abortion, homosexuality, etc”, but those are certainly not the same people that Christ considers “good ones” according to Scripture.

And that’s a serious problem, because Jesus Christ determines who belongs to Him, and who does not:

“For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.” (2 Corinthians 10:18, KJV)

~~~
sophie writes: “But those who do are a mouthy, annoying bunch.”
If you would become a Christian, then you could lead by example, and address those who are in error according to God’s Word, making sure that you also are in accordance with His Word first:
"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? [42] Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye." (Luke 6:41-42, KJV)
sophie - reply to post #193 (Part 2)
GO SCOTT.. You nailed it brother !!!!!!
RE: Sophie
Sophie, do you ever make a point, or do you just make ad hominum attacks? Let me give you a little history lesson. In 1980, 1984, 1994, 2000, and 2004 the "oogedy boogedy" people made the difference in putting the GOP over the top. Another little historical tidbit: we just ran a wishy-washy, pro-amnesty, pro gun control, christian hating "moderate" for president. By the way, he also voted for embryonic stem cell research, and holds the same position on homosexuality as Barack Obama; and guess what? He got trounced! Now, I don't know what kind of kool-aid the Governator has you guys in the People's Republic of California drinking, but whatever it is, you need to put it down for five minutes and get informed. Otherwise, you will only continue to make yourself look stupid. We, the true conservatives, are the base of the GOP. The 2008 election made that fact abundantly clear. If the party tries to become more "centrist", they will go the way of the Whigs.
P.S. If you hate conservatives so much, why are you blogging on a conservative website?
Matt
Amen, brother. Nothing futher, your honor!
Sayonara
Dear Kathleen, Stopped by just one more time after your screed against Palin to see if victory had mellowed your spirit and brought back the conservative writer I admired for so many years. I see that I am sadly disappointed. I find it hard to understand what wonders you behold in BHO, it cannot be from his proven accomplishments for he has none to show. He is the least qualified aspirant to the Oval Office in the last hundred years. To each their own. I will miss your former wit and wisdom.
Pax tecum
How about this for change?
Kathleen Parker disappears from conservative websites.
That's a change I will endorse.
OK. I voted. See ya.
Kathleen Parker
Parker is equating Obama's speaking style to his intelligence. A lot of morons were taken in by that.
Could someone at Towncall.com please explain why this ditz is still being published on their website?
Nice...
A conservative Republican who gets why Obama won the election.
