Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Chivalry is still charming, as Barack Obama proved when he recently warned Tennessee Republicans to leave his wife alone.

He was commenting on a GOP Web ad that highlights Michelle Obama's comment, made at a rally in February, that she was proud of America for the first time in her adult life. When asked about the ad Monday during an interview on "Good Morning America," Obama said Republicans were welcome to pick on him and his track record, but not his wife.

"If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable. The notion that you start attacking my wife, or my family ... is just low class. ... Lay off my wife, all right?"

Love that. You could almost hear those bowling pins toppling as Obama's testosterone surged, while Michelle was almost Nancy Reaganesque sitting by his side. Of course, Michelle Obama is manifestly capable of defending herself, but it's refreshing to see a man come to his damsel's defense.

Even so, hard-core feminists who switched allegiances from Hillary Clinton to Obama must have had to Botox their faces to keep their eyes from rolling out of their sockets upon hearing "lay off my wife."

They were already in fetal recoil from Obama's earlier "sweetie," offered to a female reporter at a campaign stop in Detroit. When ABC's Peggy Agar asked him a question about how he was going to help the American autoworkers, Obama responded:

"Hold on one second, sweetie. We'll do a press avail."

Be still my beating heart.

Alas, Obama felt it necessary to apologize a few hours later, leaving a message on Agar's voice mail. "That's a bad habit of mine," he said. "I do it sometimes with all kinds of people. I mean no disrespect and so I am duly chastened on that front."

What preciousness hath feminism wrought when a perfectly good "sweetie" piques a grown woman's ire?

Far too much has been made of tongue slippages that are silly to insignificant, including Michelle's un-proud moment. We know what the woman meant. She was proud of her husband, proud of her country for recognizing his talents, and probably proud of herself. She was swept up in the moment.

That said, Michelle Obama doesn't get a pass from scrutiny and criticism. What she says matters, not least because she is the partner of the man who would be president but also because her statements are made in the service of his campaign.

Both husband and wife have made plenty of remarks that were not mere nits, but are troubling hints at a future where government knows what's best. Such as this from a Los Angeles rally where Michelle pronounced that Obama "will require you to work."

"He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism ... that you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed."

Require? Demand? What if we like being alone in our comfort zones?

Or this from Obama in Roseburg, Ore., last Saturday:

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That's not leadership. That's not going to happen."

We can't?! It's not?

By all means, let's roll out the hybrids and hold the fries, but are other countries now the judges of American lifestyles? Perhaps while human rights investigator Doudou Diene is in the United States the next few weeks probing racism for the United Nations, he can take a measure of American gluttony. What would Senegal have us do?

Obama isn't wrong that America needs to clean up, slim down and guzzle less, but let's hope Michelle isn't right about the requiring and demanding part. Free markets and private-sector innovation are beautiful things, as is voluntary sacrifice.

Let's stay just cynical enough, meanwhile, to ask not what our country can do for us -- or to us -- but what we can do for ourselves as sane citizens of a free, entrepreneurial nation.

you're wrong, robert
Having been on the right in "00" I can tell you that Bush was not messianic, which is the way the left feels about obama. He was simply the most appropriate choice(groomable)at the time.

Kathleen writes that michelle was "swept up" in the moment when she made her "proud" comments. Kathleen! was michelle swept TWICE? She made the same comment in two different speeches. You may think she was just impassioned, but I will respectfully disagree and contend that she does not like my country. That's why she wants me to stop eating, stop driving, stop controlling my climate, and to do whatever barack and the united nations tells me to do.

I'll lay off his wife when she lays off me.

Army wife
What you said. AMEN!

Too many "moments"
B. Hussein and Michelle have had WAY too many "moments" for my comfort. Add in their associations, their terrorist friends, their bizarro pastor, and everything else, and it adds up to "how in the hell did this guy get as far as he has?"

I can only suppose those of the Democratic/liberal persuasion are severely lacking in cognitive skills. But we already knew that, didn't we?

Kathleen
Obama responded:

"Hold on one second, sweetie. We'll do a press avail."

Hey, B.H. 'Gaffe' O'B, is at least consistent. He opens mouth, inserts foot, and then changes tunes later. Go figure.

OBTW, his loud mouth, bitter half, injected herself into the debate.

Others did not bring her in. She brought herself in. Probably over 'Gaffe's' milk-toast objections.

New Disease...
Obamaphilia : n.

Tertiary phase of Obamamania.

Characterized by leg shivers, fainting spells, Spontaneous O'Gasm, failure to hear or recognize O'Gaffes.

The secondary phase of Obamamania is often evidenced by chanting mindless phrases, inabilitity to hear facts, and constantly screaming RACISM.

Who's side are you on?
What are you trying to say? Rather wishy-washy I would say. Let me help you. Michelle gets no pass. The lady has an attitude which does not belong to a First Lady. She is already feeling the power and her hunger shows. You are the only one who I have read that does not say she is fair game due to her opinated unnerings as a part of the campaign. She is a campaigner, not an uninvolved wifely homemaker.

Obama-Carter
I'll be damned if that jerk doesn't sound like that old fool Jimmeh Cotta and his malaise speech. "Turn the thermostat down, put on a sweater, we're now a third world country." That's paraphrasing, but it's about what he said, and if it hadn't been for Ronald Reagan who restored our confidence and pride in our country, who knows where we'd be today. Let's please not make the same mistake of electing another stupid Marxist-socialist to the exectutive branch.

Cross the Line
As far as I'm concerned, when Michelle and Chelsea make campaign speeches that makes them fair game for criticism. If you can't take the heat, then get out of the kithcen so they say.

But the line is crossed when the video of Michelle's speech was edited. They took out the "really". That's low. That's sleazy. That says more about the TN GOP than it does about Michelle, and crap like that will cost votes.

Perfect Balance
Obama's comments were a perfect balance between chivalry and feminism.

He is going to make a wonderful Presdient, and Mrs. Obama will be a terrific, pro-active First Lady.

Michelle
This campaign is shaping up to be something out of a facist manual. Don't criticize my policies because "your smearing me". Dont criticize my wife "thats unacceptable". Don't criticize my past relationships "thats racism".
In other words dear Americans just shut your mouths and accept me. NOT happening!!!

Facism

Two Icons?
Is it just me or does anyone else see the resemblance between Michelle Obama and James Brown. Even better Hussein Obama and Curious George. The ears and hair are a dead give away

Not voting for First Mom and Dad
I for one am not looking for a First Mom and Dad to scream at me *Put on your coat! Turn off that teevee and go outside and play! Eat your greens! No No! Stop that! Put That Down! Sit Still! Pay Attention! Get Down From There! Shame On You* for the next four years.

About the *sweetie* thing. My boss, who is a woman, occasionally calls people *sweetie* -- but ONLY people she knows (her children, me, good friends). The difference between that and the Father Knows Best type *sweetie* thrown out by Obama are, I trust, obvious. Note also that if I was Obamas secretary, he would no doubt refer to me as *his girl*. I have worked for men like him. I recognize the type. And his FKB moment is not condescending because of the word he used, but because of the way he dismissed the reporter. Do you really believe that he dismisses the queries of male reporters by saying *Hang on, sweetie/honey/princess, we will have a Press Avail.* Sexist is the wrong word for it. CONDESCENDING is the word I would have used.

Parker's article about Michele O
Parker's 100% right. This is a troubling (to say the least) team, trying to take over the White House. The absolute, obvious reasons Michele's comments are NOT off-limits are: 1)She's speaking at public, campaign appearances for Barack, and 2) Her opinions are known by Barack and if he didn't endorse them, he wouldn't have her appearing for his campaign!
So, it IS important what she says, and the fact that she and Barack seem to think govt is the arbiter of actions by individuals in the normal course of the pursuit of happiness, is extremely troubling!

Michelle should stay in the kitchen
If B. Hussein Obama doesn't like it when anyone criticizes Michelle, then he should keep her in the kitchen baking cookies.

She made herself part of his campaign so she's fair game. All's fair in love, war and politics.

Minorites can be racist.
"B.O." & his wife constantly make racist statements which are forever overlooked by the press.
I am more disgusted by the worthless press than either the screwball B.O. and "name not to be mentioned". What a crock!
Even the resident prostitutes, "Limp ball & Worthless Factor" do not have the integrity to call it like it is.

90/10 and 60/40
In the next election blacks will vote for a black about 90/10 and whites will vote for a white about 60/40. If the black loses, it will be because of white racism....at least according to a lot of people.

Your Giving Michelle and Barak a Pass.
There was more to Michele Obama's statement: "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country" than being proud of her husband and her country for recognizing him.
Taken in context with her senior thesis at Princeton whereby she chastizes America as founded on Hatred and racism, it shows a pattern of animus towards this great nation that gave her and Barak formidable opportunity.
Barak's past associations, from his early communist mentor, James Marshall Davis, to jerimiah Wright, the reverend of hate and race baiting, to William Ayers, also says much about his ideology...which is in line with Michele's Why can't the media pundits see this?

LOL Mike #14
Mike #14........LOL! No kidding on both "seperated at birth" comparisions.

Whenever I hear anyone say that B. Hussien is handsome I just shake my head in disbelief. How many times have we seen caricatures of Bush as a monkey in the newspapers all over this country for the last 7 years? But we say B. Hussien looks like curious george the monkey and we get called racists. He does look like a monkey and he is not handsome.

And yes.....Michelle is a very ugly woman.....inside and out. Good grief....can you imagine putting up with that bitter hag as first lady?

I thought Clinton was a svengali!
The spectacle of grown people, swooning and creaming their jeans whenever an Obama opens their yap and spews their pap and poop - I'm shaking my head.

I also never imagined someone would come along who would make me PREFER Hillary. Wow, that's going some, that I would hope a feminazi/marxist wins out over a black power/communist.

Operation Chaos - ride towards the sound of the dhimmicrats' destruction.

Robert/Hal
Robert/Hal claims "The far left thinks about Obama just as the far right thought about Bush in 00..he is the cure for everything."

As usual, you assume much and know little. Most of us conservatives voted AGAINST GORE AND KERRY. We didn't vote FOR Bush.

I'm from Massachusetts and I know Kerry. He's a pompous, lazy, empty suit who's entire output in the almost 25 years he's been in the Senate amounts to 7 bills - five of which were to rename federal buildings. He has one of the worst attendance records in all of Congress, amounting to little more than a no-show job at taxpayer's expense.

I realize that your standards are VERY low, Robert/Hal, but some of us expect our elected officials to show up and do the job they've been elected to do. As much as I dispise Kennedy and his ultra liberal agenda, at least the man works hard and does his job.

When Michele is stumping for her hubby, she's fair game, as is the whiner himself. His claim that all questions and criticism of he and his wife amounts to unfair politicing is ludicrous. He speaks in vague generalities and hackneyed platitudes and he expects to be elected on that alone?

Although it wouldn't surprise me, considering the state of the media and the ignorance of the electorate, Obama has no right to have hissy fits about being scrutinized in a presidential election.

Cavalier Obama
Obama's defense of his wife - after using her on the stage to support him - and his "sweety" comments (there have been several such instances - are absolutely consistent with his Muslim upbringing which taught him to regard women as inferior beings.

When I said this to my wife, she replied, "That is Southern, many of us use "sweety" or "honey," especially when talking to children.

She made my point. You use such language when talking to people you regard as immature.

Bill D.

Parker is right
Michelle is fair game. Certainly, Obama is not the first politican to use taking an offense on the campaign trail. I recall all of those ralling against the dixie chicks beacuse they made a negative comment about GWB on "Oh my God" foreign soil. I guess it is OK for a sitting president to criticise a political rival who is most likely to be the next leader of this country in front of a foreign cabinet as part of an official speech.

We had 7 years of GWB's happy talk when what was needed is leadership. Republcans in power all over government could not deliver for average people and they know it.

We do need to confront our challenges as a nation and solve the big problems, not act like they are not there. Finally, when you let Exxon Mobil drive your energy policy you know in the end it will not be good for most Americans.

The question is whether Obama can really challenged the intrenched interests? One things for sure he can't make it any worse.

The Women's Vote
How better to get the votes of women that like Hillary than to stand up for a defenseless female like Michelle? Is that what they call pandering? Why does he open his big mouth to defend the big mouth?

THE ONION HAS BEEN PEELED BACK
Obama has been exposed. No amount of spin by the talking heads can change that. Barack is not a new ray of hope -- he did not influence his former Pastor to lay off the divisive rhetoric. Barack does not really stand for change -- he voted "NO" to Bush's plan to save a soon-to-be-bankrupt Social Security system. Most pundits have an agenda. Observe and think for yourself. You will be much better off. Unplug yourself from the matrix and see the world with your real eyes. One more thing. Remember Barack taking SEVERAL verbal swipes at Bill Clinton during the early part of the campaign? Okay.....you, Barack, can take shots at your opponent's spouse, but nobody can say anything about your spouse? You are insulting this Black man's intelligence. Barack, you have been exposed.

Re: First Mom and Dad-post 15
I agree totally- He gave a speech in Beaumont, Tx and was telling the crowd- Sit down at the table with your kids- (the crowd cheered) Help them do their homework (the crowd cheered) on and on and on--I guess his voting base needs a parenting lesson. Hillary was the same way- It takes a village to raise a single child- My Mom always said it wasn't anybody's business how she raised her kids! I do have one prediction to make on Mrs. Obama, who is FAIR GAME- I am willing to bet she will run for Senator of Illinois in the distant future and no doubt will win by a landslide. All the corruption in Chicago will shoe her in just like they did her husband.

Re: Dave
"But the line is crossed when the video of Michelle's speech was edited. They took out the "really". That's low. That's sleazy. That says more about the TN GOP than it does about Michelle, and crap like that will cost votes. "

Umm...she said it twice at different events. Once with the 'really,' once without.

Hagel VP Pick Obama?

Chuck Hagel Takes On McCain, Repeatedly Praises Obama
Could Hagel be the VP pick for Obama?

HP-Chuck Hagel is quickly becoming Barack Obama’s answer to Joe Lieberman.

The Republican Senator from Nebraska was a political thorn in McCain’s side on Tuesday night, repeatedly lavishing praise on the presumptive Democratic candidate and levying major foreign policy criticisms at the GOP nominee and the Republican Party as a whole. At one point, Hagel even urged the Arizona Republican to elevate his campaign discourse to a higher, more honest level.

“We know from past campaigns that presidential candidates will say many things,” Hagel said of some of McCain’s recent rhetoric, namely his policy on talking to Iran. “But once they have the responsibility to govern the country and lead the world, that difference between what they said and what responsibilities they have to fulfill are vastly different. I’m very upset with John with some of the things he’s been saying. And I can’t get into the psychoanalysis of it. But I believe that John is smarter than some of the things he is saying. He is, he understands it more. John is a man who reads a lot, he’s been around the world. I want him to get above that and maybe when he gets into the general election, and becomes the general election candidate he will have a higher-level discourse on these things.”

I think the fair game idea being fine when someone stumps for you is just another right wing lie. When the Clinton's little girl was called ugly as a "dog" by the right wing she wasn't stumping, or when Cindy McCain was called a drug attic in 2000 by Rove, she hadn't been stumping either. Or McCains babies, who were labeled "illegitimate" by Rove hadn't given any speeches at all.

Ill leave her alone
If he and his wife leave me alone!

Michelle as first lady = disgrace
I bet BHO *would* like us to lay off his wife - as many others have already said, good luck with that.

Say what you will about George Bush, no matter how good, bad or ugly the president is everyone's punching bag - but I have never heard one bad word against Laura Bush. All I ever hear about her is good, she is everything a first lady should be. Michelle does not strike me as someone the entire country could be proud of. Can you just picture Michelle attending some major state function and going all ethnic on some foreign dignitary? The First Lady needs to be an elderly Miss America,(not speaking of the scandalous ones here) always good manners, always in control, always diplomatic... Michelle has WAY too much seething hatred and resentment boiling just under her surface.

Taft # 32 - Oh no no no no
You said "When the Clinton's little girl was called ugly as a "dog" by the right wing she wasn't stumping" - I SPECIFICALLY remember that, thinking that was grossly unfair - that was NOT the right wing, that was some diphead liberal idiot comedians on Saturday Night Live. Even though I did not like Clinton at that time, I thought that was WAY out of line.

craigctx
I appreciate you distgust and I hadn't heard of the SNL thing, but it's on record that Rush Limbuagh said it on national radio.

"In 1993, when Chelsea was still in braces, Rush Limbaugh said the following: "Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat; Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?" He then pointed to a video monitor, which switched to a picture of Chelsea."

Wiki

Robert
When asked for you papers is your response "We don't need know stinking papers!"?

craigctx
Mrs, Bush really has been a bright spot on the National scene. It seams pretty brave to me, for example, to speak like this concerning the ban on gay marriages.

""Well, I don't think it should be used as a campaign tool, obviously," Mrs. Bush said. "But I do think it's something that people in the United States want to debate. And it requires a lot of sensitivity to talk about the issue, a lot of sensitivity."

Some Thoughts
At least the guy stands up for something. Had he been a GOP candidate he would have said, "My Wife? Sure, go ahead and insult her if you want to. I just don't want you to be mad at me. Can I have your vote? No? OK, you have a nice day anyway."

Barak has every right to demand and take stuff away from us. I applaud it. We've become a nation of slaves, unable to manage our own lives and as such someone has to take over.

Any adult who walked into a house inhabited only by three year olds would naturally take charge and bring some order to the chaos. Millions of Americans are flocking to Obama with their arms stretched out to Him, begging for comfort. What's he supposed to do, turn them down?

"Please, Savior. Pay off my mortgage, cure me when I'm sick, feed me when I run out of Big Macs, give me reparations and a wide screen TV."

What's a messiah to do?

Kathleen Parker
Chivalry does not mean when a lady says something wrong or stupid, that you just smile and ignore it.

There was nothing wrong or impolite about people asking for explanations of Michelle's very public statements.

It was not an act of chivalry for Obama to demand people not question her, rather it is an attempt to avoid having to answer questions about his and his wife's beliefs and opinions and goals.

Obama's wife
We will leave her alone if she keeps her big, foul mouth shut. Otherwise she ie fair game.

Taft
You are correct about what happened on Rush's TV show, but you are not being fully honest. The picture of Chelsea was put on screen during Rush's commentary without Rush's knowledge. It was supposed to be a picture of Buddy. Staff members substitued the Chelsea picture as a cruel joke and no one was more unamused than Rush Limbaugh himself. When he found out what had happened, he disciplined the staff involved and apologized on the next show.

I am going to assume you are unaware of the rest of the story because you are getting your information from Wikipedia.

Words...just words
According to Obama words means things, so do the slips of the tongue. What will happen when he goes to meet with the terrorist leaders of the world and he or she has a slip of the tongue? Loose lips sink ships!

Kathleen 80% straight 20% backing off
I'm with ArmyWifeAggie88 . . .she knows how to cut right through all the crap while the rest of us are STILL trying to pussyfoot around the office and neighborhood. These two seem to have developed a gradual mean spirited abcess about America and White America, he's inexperienced and yet knows how to sweep up know-nothings (i.e. people who wouldn't recognize the big picture if it was smooshed all over their faces.)
McCain/Rice 2008!

Khmer Rouge time
Would so many Americans be swept up to vote for this pair? Yes, indeed, this will be a twofer deal.

So will Obama have his Liberal Khmer Rouge Take away our SUVs and force us to reduce our Carbon Foot Print?

I won't have to hold my nose too much to vote for McCain.

It is not Bam Bam Choice

Bam Bam does not determine the perameters of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable for discussion in his bid for the presidency. The voters determine what is important not teh polititian.

Since lying and politics ar synonomous and political promises are worthless we have no choice except to make our decision on past experiences. Bam Bam's wife made a statement twice, it was not mistaken and not an accident that statement is part of history and part of what the decision making process is all about.

Tough luck Bam Bam your gonna have to live with the statements made by your bitter half.

Obama's silly mama,
When Michelle tells me that I am going to have to give up my "pie" so others can have more "pie"., she can think again. As long as she is out there excoriating my life and country, then she should feel the wrath of all of us heathen individualistic American cowboys and girls.

MOBAMA
*
MOBAMA is the one who drew the line in the sand, she and BOBAMA are the ones who played the poor victim African-American card. They started the "slander whitey" hate America game. She Called America names like "a mean country" and "soulless". And now BOBAMA comes off all puffed up and chivalrous, (we should have seen this coming, it's so Clinton-esque).

News flash Barry... your wife ain't first lady material*, (*Teresa Kerry), when she spouts her hate for the country that has done pretty darn well by her and you, Barry. She can't hate America on one hand and then be Her official ambassador once all is well because we finally put a BOBAMA in the driver's seat.

*Bert

Michelle and Albatross
Like Wright, Michelle is going to become an albatross around Obama's neck and if she continues talking, I think we will find that she is the one who who more closely resembles the congregation of Trinity. Trinity, a church for the disinfranchised and a church that continues to identify perceived problems rather than seeking solutions to those perceived problems. Michelle's upbringing probably did not allow her to move easily from one socio-economic group to another as did Obama's or Wright's. It is my contention, that although her social status has changed, she continues to harbor feelings of resentment. She, and others like her, are Obama's and Wright's connection to this segment of the population. A group that Obama needed as part of his base and a group Wright needed to build his personal wealth. It's sad really because Mrs. Obama has much to be thankful for.

BETWEEN OBAMA & MCCAIN

.....Hillary looks benign ...

.....Our Primary system for selecting nominees must be severely flawed if we end up with a Marxist on one side and a turncoat Liberal RINO on the other ...

.....It looks like McCain will win the General Election because Obama will be unacceptable to a majority of voters but the GOP will be swept away in both house in a blood bath ...

.....So with McCain as President and big Democrat majorities in both Houses, Conservatives will be squeezed out of the decision making process ...how is McCain going to appoint Conservative Judges? ...

.....Conservatives had better find a Leader and rally behind Him/Her for 2012 even if it means leaving the GOP for a third Party or else prepare to "LOVE BIG BROTHER" .....COLOSSUS

Postscript: Either the Primary system should be scrapped entirely and we should go back to selecting our nominees at the Convention or we should hold one National Primary about three months before the Convention .....COLOSSUS

Spouses reveal thinking
I am appalled that Obama's wife cannot speak proper, unacennted, English as a Harvard graduate. It is clear she has a lot of hang-ups about being black, which I find very surprising.

And, what couple does not find that they share much of the same ideology after many years together. So, Michelle Obama seems to me to reflect her husband's views in a way which sheds light on his inner views, and is most relevant.

Perhaps Barack Obama wants Michelle kept out of the limelight because her views are more nearly similar to Reverend Wright's, and, should it be clear that she agrees with the Reverend, it might mean that Barack does too, and, he may just keep quiet and not say "god damn America."

Is this the kind of President we should want?

And the Jokes Continue
to roll in everytine Obama talks. He believes in ruling the people, he will forget who voted him in and make life hell for us all.

This Liberal Democratic Congress is a disgrace and Obama is one of THEM.

Make a difference, go to http://www.NumbersUSA.com and let your voice be heard before it is to late.

This is one site Obama hopes you do NOT find, he will vote today on giving 1.3 million illegals citizenship if we don't stop him.

Joy of Iowa

Kathleen now MSM
With her op ed piece in the Washington Post Kathleen has now attained the coveted distinction of being part of the MSM.

She is deluded, full of herself, a beltway elitist.

Don't listen to her Town Hallers!

Better? Bitter? whatever...
It would almost be worth it to see him trying to 'move' anybody out of their 'comfort zone' & trying to do it with the whole country would be worse than herding cats. Obama maybe a good one with words but he would talk himself dry before being able to influence to the extent he thinks he will. Might drive himself crazy trying...

Her attitude
Michelle's attitude soured the milk in my frig. If Obama gets elected we will have to send a message to his wife telling her that we are ashamed of what some of our citizens have done. We will not be ashamed of the land of the free.

Making us Better
Just as I have always said: "The Democrats think they know more about how we should live our lives than we do."

And now they want us to vote them into office so they can tell us how to live.

Not on your life!

Rush/Chelsea/Taft/Shrinque
Wow. I did not know ANY of that had happened back then, but then again, I have never heard/watched Rush myself. What little I heard him speak he sounded like an overly opinionated blowhard to me. I know, a conservative who doesn't listen to Limbaugh?

Stranger things have happened :)

Now on to "Proud Liberal"...

OK, you tell me what kinds of accents you can find in this country. Deep Southern? (Mississippi), the distinctive Louisiana accent, Texan, New Jersey, Boston, the upper Midwest? Maine? even California surfer and valley girl? Give me a break. Also, Harvard isn't in the business of teaching people how to speak "unaccented" English.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more racist your comment sounds.

Proud Liberal, Reply 51
Where to begin? The laughability of a liberal criticizing the ridiculously liberal MSM? The judging of Ms. Parker?

No, I will go in with the comment "Don't listen to her Town Hallers!" - this remark is one of the major issues I have with liberals.

Hear me well: I have the right to listen to who I want, when I want. I also reserve the right to judge for myself whether or not they are worth listening to. I read even liberal opinions - occasionally even learn something - and if I take issue with something someone says, I will post a comment on which points I take issue with and why.

Try something new rather than chanting some mantra: DEBATE. Rational, civilized, reasoned debate. Without screaming or shouting someone down (the reason I do not watch O'Reilly or Hannity/Colmes either, because I saw them NOT give their guests a chance to respond one time too many).

Mr. & Mrs. Obama, please leave me and my family alone. I and family fled our country when Communist took it over. We love our new country, the US, its people, who gave us new opportunity in life. Your many campaign speeches reminded us that of dictators and bigots many are still running Third World countries. We love our "comfort zone" and we will defend it to our last drop. You should not care if we decide to live anywhere in the country or choose not to do things you demand. You can "demand" or "require" from your own family and followers and not from us.

Savage99 Post #20
Interesting comments. Here's some statistics from the precinct I worked here in KY yesterday. 566 registered voters. 158 people voted. Of those 158 only 37 were R's, the rest were Dems and split 60/61, Clinton/Obama.

Since KY has a closed primary (you can only vote for the party's nominees of your registered political affiliation) every voter had to identify themselves as either D or R. Of the three dozen or so blacks that voted, all were D's.

Statewide, Obama received 90 percent of the black vote. While Clinton received 73 percent support of white women.

I'm always amazed when people vote their race or sex. As a white male, it's just not a concern for me. I have and will vote for women and minorities when their political views fall in line with mine.

An Acquired Taste
craigctx wrote: "What little I heard [Rush Limbaugh] speak he sounded like an overly opinionated blowhard to me."

That's his deliberate persona. Limbaugh is actually an acquired taste, it takes a week or two of listening to him to get him, but once you do, he's pretty entertaining.

Of course, if you don't want to spend the time, that's fine. I manage to listen to Rush about 3 minutes a week, if that. It's just not that important. But he is pretty funny once you get his shtick.

losing it
Parker has really been losing it of late. She has always tended towards the superficial, but seems to be getting worse. Two columns ago she made the bizarre argument that calling Obama a half-breed far from being racist is really a way of channelling the deepest part of American patriotism. Last column she bizarrely tried to make the fact that Edwards endorsed Obama as a kind of homsexual thing which oddly did not occur to her when Romney endorsed McCain.

Now she takes comments from Obama and his wife to the effect that actions have consequences and tries to portray this as if they are anti-liberty. Yes that God is a fascist by making actions have consequences. How silly. It would be one thing if she had arguments against the content of the claims. But at least in the last case she acknowledges that what he says is true, but thinks he says it in a mean way. Really?

Wrong forgiveness, Ms. Parker
Ms. Parker wants to give Michelle Obama a pass on "For the first time in my life," but can't find it in herself to get past "Obama is going to make you work."

Personally, I think Ms. Parker has this one backwards. The latter comment was made to a college audience, and she was expressing how hard young people would have to work to gain the sort of world they want. I agree that the construction was more Leninistic than we'd like, but in the context, I think she probably meant something benign.

"For the first time in my life" was scripted, not a wash of emotions. She said it verbatim in two different speeches. It could not be taken as a mere superlative about her husband, given her negative rhetoric about the unfairness of America. She meant it exactly as it sounded. She deserves the attention she's received for it, and voters have good reason to take note of it.

Barack Obama has many times demonstrated how much of a hypocrite he is, talking new, civil politics out of one side of his mouth while giving his shills instructions who to slam out of the other. "Lay off my wife" is a mere tactic, in line with the dozen or more other serious errors he's made that he claims are too "low class" for observers to talk about. This is typical leftist guerrilla war, trying to fool his opponents to stop fighting while he grabs for a handful of dirt to throw in their eyes.

So long as Michelle Obama is making campaign speeches, the content of her speeches is fair game, and Barack Obama knows it perfectly well.

Dear Obama,
If you don't want anyone questioning or commenting on your wife's statements (made while she is campaigning for you) then your solution is simple. Resign from your campaign.

That's right! Stop running for president then no one will be concerned about whether Michelle would make a First Lady that America can be proud of, NOT!

Question for libs
You have put Obama and his wife on a pedestal as a savior for the working class.Neither him or his wife understand a thing about the working man. They are elitists in the same vein as Al Gore. His statement that we should live our lives as the Europeans want us to.If he and Gore really believed that why don't they live like working people instead of a millionaires life.

When Michelle shuts up
Obama's demands about his wife can certainly be honored. All that is required is that the 'little woman' or 'sweetie' go home and shut her mouth. If we never have to see or hear from her again there will be nothing to say.

Ok. Since when does the almost Senator get to make the rules? Doesn't he have to wait until he's crowned emperor?

Dear Barack:
This is the "USA," not the "UNA." What kind of president will you be if you find it necessary to inform this nation what other nations will accept with regard to "our" cars, living temps and food portions?

As for Michelle's directive that a President Obama will demand this and require that, Ms. Obama, the president is the servant of the people, not vice versa.

Please learn these basic facts about this country and re-apply for above job in four years or so, when you understand the underlying principles of the country you wish to serve.

impeachbush- Re: Post 59
For the record- I am a proud REDNECK-A female horse breeder and NOT THE LEAST BIT RACIST. I suppose the Clintons NEVER LIED--ha ha-
Under Sniper Fire--I did not have sex with that woman.....Obama ha ha --NEVER heard his Rev-in over 20 years say the RACIST WHITEY REMARKS- say HILLARY ain't NEVER been called a NI----R. He prayed with the REV in the basement, when he announced his decision to run--WHY were they in the basement?? If he gets elected are those two gonna be in the basement with the KORAN?? Why don't you just get over it with BUSH--ALL POLITICIANS LIE.

Having "Reply #'s" is great ....
but when post's get deleted, it looks like someone erred when referring to a reply number. I know Savage99's post was #20 earlier this morning, now it's number 18.

TH, if you're going to delete posts, at least leave the reference number alone so people don't get lost when referring to earlier posts. C'mon, TH, get it together!

impeachbush
You're too funny. Here you are calling TH posters racists yet during your multiple posts you also call TH posters 'rednecks'. That's super racist, you bafoonic moron.

And why do you have a problem with Bush? Bush has enacted numerous liberal policies that brought his ratings down to nothing. Since you hate the Bush liberal regime, you will surely hate Obama.

The people you call 'rednecks' make up 80% of the American populace. It wasn't liberals like yourself that brought his ratings down, it was middle Americans that did. There aren't enough of your kind to make a blip in any ratings.

Obama's Chivalry
To begin with it's sad to see Kathleen associated with one of the worst rags in print, the POST,the second being the NYT.To their credit they allow Kathleen to write and David Brooks and Bill Kristal. However,I must strongly disagree this time with Kathleen on Obama's mock chivalry.Truely fallacious. If his wife, who clearly flunked American history as her husband clearly flunked foreign policy, can dish it out on the stump then she is absolutely fair game. This is definitely not about chivalry.

Michelle Obama
jumped in a limelight meant for her hubby. We are not only allowed to crtique her words, we are obligated to do so.

The only critical analysis has been targeted at her words, never her appearence. I don't recall anyone ever calling her an orangutang's arse, or any other such like comment. Every objection was aimed at her own words. But, of course, THAT'S off limits. You people are a piece of work. You accept no other commentary other than "change," "hope," or "Obama's the greatest." (A liberals idea of free speech.)
Jerks.

I can easily
name one. Amnesty, not pardonling border agents, expansion of government, increased welfare, failure to veto pork brought by BOTH parties, No Child Left Behind, failure to defy greenie's and drill in ANWR, granting Canadian Army to come into U.S. should a civil uprising occur, closet NAU meetings, superhighway, etc. These are ALL liberal positions, not conservative, not even centerist. These are all Obama's positions. Obama's idea of change is to fully execute Bush's GLOBAL agenda. Iraq has little to do with his plummeting ratings. Iraq only means something to the MSM and liberals.

impeachbush: really?
"Never fear, you redneck racists will never allow a black man and woman to reside in the "White" House! He will be assassinated--if not physically, definitely figuratively!"

BHO used the term “typical white person” as I recall in describing his grandmother’s rational mental connection between certain individuals and their cultural preponderance towards violent crime. How about “bitter, gun toting bible thumpers”? Please understand that BHO first played the race card by using the “Hating Whitey” wing (i.e., Rev Wright) of the Chicago Progressive Political machine to usher his inevitable entrance onto the national political scene. Any individual w/ half-a-brain knows how inner city “victim group identity” politics work. That included “kissing the ring” of the leader (Bill Ayers) of the “Mad Bomber” wing of said progressive political machine. He then had the temerity & arrogance to remain under the personal influence of a bigot for the following 20 years without a clue that it would come back to haunt him.

But don’t worry, "Hating Whitey" is not only deemed socially acceptable by the "Obama-gasmic" MSM, but also quite lucrative as a profession- just ask Rev. Wright and other hyphenated-American poverty pimps who cling to the myth of "black liberation theology." If fact, Rev Wright is in the process of writing a book. This is just conjecture but I would guess that the title is "Hating Whitey for Dummies."

BTW- I support the impeachment of GWB- but for different reasons.

freedom of speech
I find that an inordinate number of over privileged "strong, progressive women" think that "freedom of speech" equates to "freedom from criticism that results from making a stupid statement in a public forum."

Umm, impeachedbrains...
I think you're forgetting the foreign policy SANFU's of the Carter admin. Two that come immediately to mind are: 1) Not supporting the Shah of Iran, which has lead to many of our current problems in the ME, & 2) Giving away the strategic Panama Canel, which was built and paid for by American ingenuity, money, and lives.

Ooops! Your ignorance is showing! Run along now, and make sure to take your meds. That BDS cannot be good for blood pressure!

Michelle Obama
If BO doesn't like people picking on his wife, then he should tell her to sit down and shut up.

If not, then he needs to grasp the concept that nothing his wife says or does on the public stage is off limits to either praise or criticism.

Those who can't take it shouldn't dish it out.

I don't blame any woman
for being offended by "sweetie". How would Obama (or any other man)feel if a woman addressed him as sonny? Or in the case of a black man, as boy?

It's no different and it IS disrespectful.

yo, Impeachbush
Iraq was a blunder? So you prefer Al Quaida and their armed, trained, America-hating followers being over here, attacking innocent inadequately armed (thank you again liberals) people versus over there, where our own armed, trained military is? Ever think about that?

The POTUS has a miniscule amount of time to explain himself to a populace who, on average, are 8th-9th grade educated (the same level most newspapers write at). There were and are MANY reasons for Iraq - which is why, even if BHO gets elected, at a minimum, we will not withdraw nearly as quickly as he is advocating, because he KNOWS we need to be there as well as every other politician. To not be is to sign the death warrants of many many registered voters... not the smartest political thing to do in the world.

BHO and She Who Shall Not Be Named
These two scare the heck out of me. I cannot fathom how people can support him with all that is known, even now, about them.

"SWSNBN" reminds me of the horrible wife of the black president on 24 - scheming, nasty soul. She makes me wonder why there is so much bitterness. But in truth, she reveals how much she absorbed sitting in The Rev. Wright's church - BHO just hides it better.

Obama and Michelle are our first
affirmative action couple! He is a mediocre senator with little experience and she is a bitter loudmouth. We don't need those two or their crazy minister leading our country. We aren't all as brain dead as Mr. Barry Hussein Obama and his wife are. Iran is a "tiny" country????? How dumb can Barry be!

Bamby Obama
and his wife "know best" - they think! They are worse than Jimmah and Roslyn Carter.

Oh yes he'll make it better
LOved the sarcasm Kathleen. Unfortunately, they may become president and first lady. Politically correcting us daily and the media and press eating it up like candy.

WHO PAYS THE BILLS
SINCE THE VOTER AND TAX PAYER PAYS THE BILLS WE CAN CHOOSE TO EAT, DRIVE, LIVE ,AND TEMPATURE CONTROLL, WHAT WE PLEASE. WE ALSO CAN CONDEMN ANY ONE THAT RUNS OUR COUNTRY DOWN. HE NEEDS TO SEE THE REAL WORLD AND HE HAS A LONG WAY TO GO.

Michelle Obama
Seasoned political leaders know that their wife and family is and should be open to scrutiny. Novices to the game apparently haven't gotten used to it yet.

Mrs. Parker
I must take issue with your giving Mrs. Obama a pass on her "proud of America" statement. I felt the same way the first time I heard it. I didn't like the sound of it, but figured it was a gaffe, caught up in the moment type of thing. Then she repeated it, added the "mean country" remark, and complained about student loans and a lack of hope. Toss in the Rev. Wright, the former Weatherman, and pretty soon the pair are walking and talking like the proverbial ducks. Perhaps if that were the only gaffe, we give her a pass, but the pattern is clear.

As for the treeatment of political family members, let's use some common sense. The kids are basically off limits. First ladies have the right to set the tone of the dialogue they want to hear. Mrs. Bush has carefully stayed pretty much out of the political fray and should be treated as such. As for Mrs. Obama, no doubt she is campaigning politically for her husband, she is responsible for what she says and should expect people to question what she says and react when she makes political points.

Someone who hates this country,
as Michelle Obama obviously does, also hates me because I am an integral part of this great nation. For that reason alone I would not allow that woman, her Reverend or her husband to eat in my kitchen, never mind at my dining table. And I most certainly would not vote for them.

Mac #19
"Barak's past associations, from his early communist mentor, James Marshall Davis, to jerimiah Wright, the reverend of hate and race baiting, to William Ayers, also says much about his ideology...which is in line with Michele's Why can't the media pundits see this?"

Good question Mac! Here's the answer: Because they are down with all of it 100%. They're as marxist/socialist/communist as Obamanation and Madam Michelle are!

Post 57
When I lived in Atlanta and worked for a firm with a lot of international clients, we who had distinctive accents (think Bugs Bunny in my case) were sent to a class at Emory University called "Git the Souf Outcho Mouf." This class taught us to speak what was known as "Midwest TV Announcer English." I have no accent at all now, save the inevitable "y'all" which will not go away -- except if I am yelling at the kids or out the window of the car, when Bugs Bunny comes back to the forefront. "GEDOUDDAHEAH!" and that distinctive way of calling the kids: "EYYY! frank-KEE!" that can be heard six blocks away.

It is not only possible to learn to speak without an accent, but international, well educated people do it all the time.

TH is cheaper that a therapist
It's extremely charitable of TH to offer aid and comfort for the likes of impeachbush who shows up regularly to throw screaming, irrational tantrums that rival the antics of a 3 year-old. But then, conservatives are demonstrably more charitable than liberals when it comes to helping their fellow man. Some on this thread are kind enough and patient enough to quietly explain where impeachbush is delusional, but alas, he is too hysterical to see the error of his ways. Let's take up a collection and find a good therapist for impeachbush and maybe he can get the help he so desperately needs. His misery is absolutely palpable. I feel so sorry for the guy. What more can we do to help him?

A CALL TO ARMS - MEETING AT NORM'S BLOG

1. That the GOP has abandoned conservatism, and that conservatives are consequently under no moral, ethical, or other obligation to support the so-called "lesser of two evils."

2. That no true conservative would willingly and enthusiastically support John McCain.

3. That the basic tenets of conservatism are accurately reflected in the "three-legs" model (social, fiscal, and national security), and that a true conservative will embrace all three.

4. That conservatives may, however, differ on the application of each "leg," particularly with respect to questions of faith, and should respect each others' right to do so.

5. That with unprecedented turmoil in both major parties, there has never been a better time to galvanize and mobilize conservative support for a viable, third-party candidate.

6. That compromise is often necessary in politics, but that there comes a time when compromise becomes counterproductive and even suicidal.

7. That the GOP, in making an abusive and manipulative “case” for John McCain, is asking conservatives to put party over principle and to help the GOP destroy the conservative movement.

8. That, in consequence of the aforementioned, a forum should exist wherein conservatives may discuss, debate, and compare the various third-party candidates.

9. That conservatives should, as much as possible, throw their support to ONE third-party candidate, en masse, in order to facilitate a strong showing in November, and future election victories.

I used to want to throw things at the TV every time Sherry Palmer opened her conniving mouth on that show. And now you mention it, I do feel the same way about MRO. I cracked up when I read your post. Your observation is the perfect compliment to Dennis Haysbert's comment that his playing a respectable black president on the show was what opened the door for BHO to even be running in the first place. Ha!

Obama's Rules
The MSM and Obama campaign advocate that anything that can be remotely described as an Obama weakness is off-limits.
Here are some of THE RULES:
Obama can't be called a Liberal ( as Obama puts it, "the same names and labels they pin on everyone."
His stance on the war on terror can't be questioned ("attempts to play on our fears"); His extreme positions on social issues can't be exposed ("the same efforts to distract us from the issues that affect our lives" and "turn us against each other");
His Chicago background is also off-limits ("pouncing on every gaffe and association and fake controversy").
Then of course, there is comments by Jeremiah Wright (only "30 second sound bites taken out of context".)

Anyone who does not play by THE RULES are dismissed as racist because Obama is black -- which, by the way, is incorrect: To be more precise, Obama is multiracial -- proper name for those from more than one racial or ethnic group.

Okay, Senator Obama -- Here is Nana's RULE -- I only have one:
Your CHANGE? Thanks, but no thanks!

You missed the rest of the comment
it was "Lay off my wife, alright? You'll be sorry if you don't. She slaps really hard. It hurts. I don't want her to slap me any more. Please don't get her mad. You guys go home and I'm alone with her. Please, don't let her hurt me. Stay, guys. Let's talk about stuff. Don't go. Don't leave me alone, Please, guys... STA A AY... Just a little bit Lon on ger. oh won't you Sta a ayayaa. Say you will. SAY YOU WILL!! (high pitched screaming.....)

Kathleen, you said:
"Far too much has been made of tongue slippages that are silly to insignificant, including Michelle's un-proud moment. We know what the woman meant. She was proud of her husband, proud of her country for recognizing his talents, and probably proud of herself. She was swept up in the moment."

The problem is that the right knows just as you exactly what she was implying but twisted Michelle's statement into all sorts of lies and innuendos. Scrutinize what Obama or Michelle say, that's ok, just don't spin lies to justify a point being made.

Decider-In-Chief
I'm not sure about what Barack Obama
will "demand" & "require" of us, but
under his administration I'm sure his
Demander-In-Chief, Michelle will have
us all bowing to their brand of
"change". Sadly, while I will celebrate America finally electing its
first (1/2) black President, I will also be saddened that THIS (1/2) black
President will rule with such a leftist, liberal iron fist that the only TRUE "change" will be the coins
in my pockets after he's through taxing the crap out of us ALL.

What truly SCARES me is that such a
large number of Americans actually
think that he is FULLY qualified to be
POTUS. I think half of his supporters
want him to be President simply because they believe ( AS DO I ) that
our great country should have had a
woman or a minority President long ago. But let's get someone who also
fits the bill as being FULLY qualified
at the same time ( and who is preferably a conservative or at the
very LEAST a moderate ).

I think the other half of his supporters are white liberals who still have so much guilt over racial
wrongs wrought by their/our ancestors,
that they are willing to vote for ANY
black person ( or 1/2 black ) out
of misplaced emotional guilt rather
than out of reason, common sense or
logic.

But what scares me THE MOST is that he
is the appointed "Messiah" of the liberal news media and the MORE liberal entertainment media. Some, if
not most of these people are socialists, if not Marxists. And Obama
is who THEY want as POTUS. A "slick"
talker does not a great leader make.

Why we should counter Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama used the topics of partial-birth abortion and infanticide to bolster her husband’s Senate campaign. These two articles tell the story of her insensitivity and audacity in doing so:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51 121

http://www.lifenews.com/nat3935.html

Michelle Obama & Liberals
It's surprising to me that KP would shrug off Michelle Obama's comment that for the first time in her life she was proud to be an American. KP basically gave Michelle a free pass on this one. Had KP listened to Michelle's entire speech she would know that Michelle was Not just expressing pride in her husband's accomplishments nor was she just 'caught up in the moment.' And to clear up the confusion once and for all, Michelle Obama gave two speeches in Wisconsin; one in Madison and the other in Milwaukee. In her first speech she stated she was: "....proud to be an American." Clearly someone in the campaign 'got to her' because in the second speech she stated she was: "....Really proud to be an American." NO ONE doctored the videos.

Separately, conservatives need to quit lumping all of us liberals together; we don't all have our heads in the clouds without our feet on the ground. I would no more vote for Sen. Obama than I would have voted for President Bush - both men are empty suits........but even a liberal like myself knows that Bush had more experience when he ran for the office than Sen. Obama has. Give some of us credit for a Little brain power.

The Wimp & the Nagger
What kind of sexist crap is this? Let the skunk (SP) defend herself in the same public arena that she chooses to enter almost everyday. I thought she was the one who wore the pants in the Obamer household, so who is he trying to fool anyhow?

hypocrites
The nice thing about the left is that they are all for spending other people's money to help others (i.e. buy votes and keep people scared and dependent on the government) in need, but wjen do you ever see them shed their multi-million dollar homes, or even give some of their riches to charities. I certainly do not hear the Obama's willing to give up their excesses. Oh, I forgot, the Clinton's did donate $10 million of their $109 million windfall since leaving the Presidency (too bad it was to the Clinton Library...). I think Kerry was the ideal poster boy -- he donated $735 to a charity the year before running for the White House. Heh Liberals, pony up your own money first, then we can discuss mine.

Ok, one more comment
Listening to Sen. Obama do a major policy speech to a Jewish group today I heard a lot of smooth talk, a lot of platitudes, a lot of "I've traveled to Israel...", but no real meat, no strong policy statements. Why do people let him get away without having to utter a single detail? I used to think that Hillary was pampered by the press and not asked hard questions... its nice to see that they have topepd that with BO. All I can say is that it stinks...

open letter 2 Obamas
Yo, Mr & Mrs 1st Couple Wannabee,

Whenever he gets criticized & questioned, whether directly mano a mano, or via media winds, Barack Hussein Osamabama whines & bitches like a superannuated snot-nosed kid. Sooooooh, All-Great Dalai Obama, if you can't take the impingements and criticisms - real perceived or implied - of Your Wonderfulness, you should just plain forget about becoming the next POTUS.

Also, so you find it "unack-ceeeeeeeeehpt-able" that people are attacking your wife. So what the blazes are you gonna do about it? You sent her out on the campaign trail, when she says something stupid, petulant, bitchy or slanderous about America and its people, she's 100 percent fair game for criticism.

If somehow I could meet one or both of you mano a mano, I would verbally rake you over the coals, because you're all wet on every conceivable issue that matters: massive deadbeat entitlements; punitive corporate taxation; pro-gay pandering; kumbayah with Hezbollah, cut-n-run foreign policy; and so on and on.

Finally, neither one of you seem familiar with the immortal words of the legendary President Ike: if you can't stand the heat, get outta the kitchen.
