Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Kamikaze Republicans -- those who say they'll never vote for John McCain because he isn't conservative enough -- may get what they deserve.

The Clintons.

Many on the right, including Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, James Dobson and others, have declared they'd rather vote for Hillary Clinton -- or not vote at all -- than cast a ballot for McCain. These self-appointed spokesmen for conservatism insist that voting for Clinton is a matter of principle: Better to go down on the strength of one's convictions than to be a morally compromised placeholder, they say.

To be sure, political cannibalism makes for interesting dinner conversation, but the winner eventually starves to death.

It isn't necessary to love everything McCain has done to vote for him should he be the nominee. But it isn't possible to argue that there's no difference between McCain and Clinton (or Barack Obama), as some Republicans insist.

A form of irrational conservatism has taken hold when being true to oneself or to the party is viewed as more important than, say, turning over the country to people who want to raise taxes and impose socialized health care.

Principles shouldn't be so inflexible that strict adherence elevates a worse alternative.

Exactly which core principle facilitates the garnisheeing of wages to pay for mandatory insurance coverage, as Clinton has proposed? In a recent interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Clinton said that her government-ordered insurance program would require an enforcement mechanism that might include "you know, going after people's wages."

Where are those core principles when a Democratic president is appointing judges to the Supreme Court? Given that five of the nine justices will be 70 or older come November, it's a near certainty that one or more will be replaced in the next four to eight years. Justice John Paul Stevens will be 88 in April.

The principles that Republicans rail about are not inconsequential. Small government and free-market economics were once ideas that most Americans embraced. They went hand-in-hand with strong families and moral values that didn't need redefining every four years.

McCain's enemies see him as having abandoned those principles with the McCain-Feingold campaign-finance reform bill, which limited political speech, and the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill that would allow for gradual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain criteria.

McCain also has suggested that Americans be allowed to buy Canadian drugs that are cheaper because Canada's socialized health system imposes price controls. And he's on board with environmentalist initiatives to reduce global warming.

These are positions with which conservatives would naturally argue. And perhaps they are right that McCain is more moderate than conservative, but so is the nation. Alternatively, McCain's maverick lawmaking might be viewed as principled compromise -- or at least an earnest attempt to inject humane ethics into the mix.

Serious people don't really believe that the U.S. government is going to round up 11 million or 12 million people and ship them back to wherever they came from. It isn't going to happen.

Government parceling of free speech via McCain-Feingold, a portion of which has been found unconstitutional, can't otherwise be justified unless you figure, as McCain does, that purchased speech isn't free. When some people have greater access to "free speech" by virtue of their deeper pockets, then one could fairly argue that less prosperous people are denied free speech.

McCain's fire-breathing opponents, meanwhile, disregard his support of other positions Republicans hold dear. He has a strong pro-life voting record (except for supporting federal funding of embryonic stem cell research), has opposed wasteful spending, and has been steadfast in supporting the war. But, stepping outside the GOP box, he opposes torture, including waterboarding.

How dare a man who was tortured for five years in a Vietnamese prison depart from the party line?

Anti-McCain rage for many comes down to personality. He doesn't play nice and his independence annoys those who prefer the team player mentality.

But Republicans' obstinance in claiming to prefer Clinton to McCain is arrogance of a Clintonian order. To wit: Hillary Clinton has said that as president she would not listen to generals in Iraq and would withdraw troops no matter what.

Because? Any progress that may now be occurring in Iraq, she said, is owing to the current presidential race. The Iraqi government knows that when Clinton becomes president, the free ride is over. It's all because of her, in other words.

On exactly what principle would Republicans reward that kind of grandiosity and make Hillary Clinton -- but not John McCain -- commander in chief of America's armed forces?

Do tell.

The Audacity of Compromise
John McCain is (will be?) a disaster waiting to happen. His temperament is not stable enough to handle being the president of the U.S.A.
This taken in addition to his many poor past decisions such as what you gloss over some in "The Audacity of Compromise."is terrifying.
Yes he makes *more* sense than the other two socialists on terrorism, but what of his fiscal sences?
The Abortion issue is a dead horse if you need something to compromise on. (PS.how many aids and crack babies have you adopted?)

Peter
Peter: "PS.how many aids and crack babies have you adopted?"

Your point being???

And what OF his "fiscal stances"? There was a time when Republicans believed in fiscal responsibility. McCain doesnt like waste. I believe him. Bet he WOULD veto earmarked bills. Big Govt George could have done FAR more in that area.

Do you really believe that he is LESS conservative than either of the socialists running as democrats?

Peter, you are
correct.

Ms. Parker, a disappointing column indeed.
The audacity of compromise? Give me a break.
Conservatives have compromised so often and so much that the Republican Party is nothing more
than the Democrat-Lite Party. I do not believe, as you stated, the nation is "more moderate than conservative." The Republican Party continually diluting conservative ideology, promoting compassionate conservatism, pushing RINO legislators (accompanied by President Bush's governing practices) has unfortunately contributed in part, which may be why you think there are more moderates.

Why do you think John McCain would NOT do what the Clintons or Obama would do....what has he ever done to show that he can be trusted to carry through with his promises? Saying one thing and doing another is not enough to convince me.

Agreed Peter & Not Ashamed
McCain facilitates the liberal/leftist political principle in dealing with the right: What's mine is mine and what's yours is negotiable. They gave him the political and media fawning laurels in return for backstabbing republicans and compromising conservative principles.

Now Ms Parker, a newspaper columnist immersed in the leftist culture if not a fascist nanny sympathizer herself, scolds us for not being more politically malleable as if all is expendable except fear of Obama or the klintoons.

What she forgets is that there is something more at stake: the destruction of the GOP's principles and the base it provides in opposing the Left. Without it, we move inexorable more toward a de facto one party system that oppresses us all.

One check

Nope
My compromise consisted of voting for a conservative or not voting at all.

Guess i'm sittin this one out.

Nope for me too
I WILL NOT vote for the man who called me a bigot or a racist for taking a conservative stand on immigration and not wanting to give amnesty to millions upon millions of lawbreakers. If that means that Hillary or Obama become president, so be it.

My Belief
John McCain enraged me over the Amnesty Bill.

John McCain was my next to last choice of all Republican candidates.

If we were not at War with a patient, determined and astute enemy then I would agree with the posters above. Let the American people experience 4/8 years of miring in Socialism and then we can get back to 20 years of sound conservative government. But, the fact is, we are at War and the risk of a cataclysmic terrorist attack IS REAL!

I love our country and want what is best for it.
If that means voting for someone who I consider the least worst choice then so be it.

Childish petulance only amuses and encourages our enemies.

Ciak

Addiction.
I have to wonder how people...notice I said "people", not "conservatives"...would knowingly act in a manner to bring about a President Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Given the demographic changes occurring in our nation, it is likely she would be reelected in 2012, AND, with a democratic congress, would have her way in getting her ideas enacted into law. Her appointments to USSC and other courts would pretty well set the tone for a generation.

I've been harshly critical of persons who are not able to conjure up a thought, arrive at a position, without talk radio.

I can respect someone strongly disagreeing with McCain on issues, but to permit bombastic, pompous, radio talk show hosts to gin up their listeners to such a extent as for them to think they're acting on "principle" when helping to bring about a leftist, socialistic president, turns the whole notion of "principled conservative" on its head. It is anything but "conservative", and it is anything but "prinipled".

Limbaugh, Beck, et al, are like an addiction, a crutch, where some other person or entity is controlling your life, determining your perceptions, forming your political consciousness.

Learn once again to think for yourselves. Do not permit others, be they mainstream media, or radio talk show hosts, to do what you should do for yourselves.

Take back your lives.

Perhaps this tragic phenomenon would never have happened had our educational system not been so deficient in the first place.

Our blessed republic deserves better!

Where did this come from?
Here I am innocently reading along when all the sudden I'm blindsided by this garbage!

"Serious people don't really believe that the U.S. government is going to round up 11 million or 12 million people and ship them back to wherever they came from. It isn't going to happen."

You want people to unite with the party, then learn to talk nice!(quite exagerating the position of those who disagree with you)

Well Said
Jerabaub. Although it nauseates me to have to vote for this man, the alternative is even more sickening. He was my last choice, yes, I would have voted for Ron Paul before McCain. I tremble to think of what his "open borders" mentality will do to our wonderful country.

Parker, you could've left this out....
How dare a man who was tortured for five years in a Vietnamese prison depart from the party line?

Where Did You Come From
Doug? Evidently, you do not live in the lower end of town. The upper classes do not have to mingle much with the flotsam that flows into our country daily and have no concept of what they are doing to destroy our country. Easy in the tower to look out over the dump.

Vote McCain.....?
Despite Coulter's "vote for Clinton" comments, I'll vote for McCain.

I see no other choice, regrettably.
I fervently hope that those who are evangelicals were not a major force against Romney. That would be tragic.

To NOT vote would be biting one's nose off to spite one's face. In other words: stupid.
Clinton is too, too destructive.

GOP Membership Suspended!
FROM A LONG TIME MEMBER

As a long time member of the Republican Party who has held his nose like so many other conservatives while casting ballot after ballot for less than ideal candidates, I have decided to suspend my membership in the party beginning today until such time as the party returns to its core principles.

Based on reaction to Mitt Romney’s suspension of his presidential campaign today, it is obvious there will be many more Republicans choosing to suspend their activities on behalf of the party. This will be good for the party and put leaders on notice that the grassroots grunts who work tirelessly on their behalf have had enough.

Rebulican Membership Suspended

Last night after the CPAC fiasco, I suspended my membership in the Rebulican Party.

The REAL loser was America. No more fiscal restraint, no more sanctity of life, no more American Hegemony. We are in the same position Britian was in after WWI, so in debt with falling exports and a weakening dollar as to have Hegemony handed over to the Chinese.

America's politicians surrended last night. I see little oint in supporting either party. It is obvious to me that the cancer that has infected Washington is killing us and I want no part in supporting these parasites. I will not help to kill what I love.

Republican Principles a mere theory

The problem with both Democrats and Republicans is that the political rhetoric is no longer believeable. No doubt someone will be elected, no doubt politicians will continue to gourge on wasteful, corrupt projects, promising entitlements we, the next generation can not possibly fulfill just to get elected again.

What made me understand the extent of the problem was when four supposed conservative Senators got up on the podium at CPAC and in essense disavowed their prinicples to support McCain.

Coburn had supported McCain from the start, so did Brownback who is shortly departing. Since McCain supports stem cell research it makes one wonder how they could give up both fiscal and socially conservative values so easily.

If we are to be honest - none but Duncan Hunter appears to be a man of principle and he too is leaving.

Somethings - many things are not right in Washington. Clinton might just bring forwarrd the destruction of this country through the Supreme Court because of Republican traitors. They best take in all the corruption they can - as they are want to do anyway - for eventually their will be a revolution of the type John Marshall would have approved.

When people don't care anymore

What happens when people don't care anymore? When government is seen as a solution for everything? When people no longer care if they excerise a "choice" as choice is seen as no choice at all?

When government no longer respects the markets, risk and reward? When taxation is so high that there is no incentive for people to create, invent and run their own businesses? When governement becomes the source of all "investment"? When they no longer trust the people to figure out how to help themselves? When education is used as a tool not to invigorate the inquiring mind but to stultify it?

We are about to find out.

Spot On krystalbird
"I see no other choice..."

That many fellow conservatives seem o.k. with handing the country over to the left's greatest friend, Mr. Empty Suit, or to Billary, is beyond comprehension.

Empty Suit is looking forward to changing the greatest country on the face of the earth into the weakest nation on the face of the earth. THAT IS FACT!!! You can bet John Edwards will end up somewhere(Secretary of State?)in the White House. God help us!

Billary's weakest White House aspect was ALWAYS foreign affairs. While in office, one of them, Hillary, was busy planning a socialist state for America. The other, Bill, was busy with just plain old regular affairs.

This is what some of my fellow conservative Republicans want for America?! In other words, they want America in the hands of the most liberal and least qualified people in a time of war. Shear madness if you ask me.

I'LL VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN.

old1
you may yet have you choice of a Dr Ron Paul vote in the General election this Nov. I suspect Dr Ron Paul will be heading up the Libertarian Party Presidential ticket.
If this IS the case, I will be hard pressed to campaign for and cast my ballot for Dr Ron Paul or the Democratis ticket.
I will vote for the GOP candidate in my US House district that was claimed by a Democrat in 2006 (after having been held by the GOP my entire lifetime) should one of the anti-amnesty.strong border defense candidates running in the GOP primary upcoming emerge as the Nov candidate; if not, I'll have some more deciding to do in that race.
My US Senator running for re-election was a definite for me until yesterday's letter from him arrived informing me that he was supporting McVain and that, eventhough he was one of the more vocal US Senators who voted to stop McVain-Kennedy in it's tracks this past summer, he looked forward to working with a McVain administration on "comprehensive" immigration reform, and that tells me enough about what is coming if McVain wins the Whitehouse (the US CITIZENS will loose on the next round of giveaways to lawbreakers illegally among us); now I shall have decisions to make all the way down the ballot come Nov!

Kamikaze conservatives
The point is missed. Coulter, Limbaugh et al would love a Clinton presidency. Means a lot of money in their pocket!!! Anybody who does not think that is their primary motivation is simply ignoring the fact that these folks thrive on controversy.

Need Contract with Republicans

Conservatives unite! We had a Contract with America that brought Republicans control of Congress and forced Clinton to abandon his socialist ways and sign conservative bills. Now we the people of these United States need to have a Contract with Republicans and if our candidates do not sign it or enforce our contract once in office then we boot them out! I sent this idea to several conservative leaders and am asking all conservatives to do the same. We will not vote for McCain, but our voice can be heard with electing Representatives, state, and local leaders that will be conservative to help us thwart socialism which is on the way! Let's keep conservatism alive and well with this Contract. I could post my proposed Contract, but I prefer the idea to be pushed to our leaders. If y'all want an example let me know.

Conservatives and Conservatism are relevant!!!!!

Don;t bank on "No Choice"

T.C.

I would not bank on "No other choice" to a demoralized real Republican population. They will likely find other things more important to do on election day like earn enough money to protect themselves from an ever encroaching government or perhaps take an hour off to contemplate how hard they are working and what they can reasonble expect at "retirement" or perhaps they'll go food shopping and count the increased cost of biofuels.

Perhaps they'll rent a funny movie to inolculate themselves from that which they have ABSOLUTELY no part in for as far as I'm concern the population of my state had no say in who is President thanks to Republican leadership.

Kathleen,
Where exactly has there been any compromise? The MSM, yourself included, has offered America the same Nanny State, the same unconstitutional laws and regulations, the same advances toward global government, the same attacks against individual liberties, the same arrogance, the same hypocrisy, the same social programs, the same back-breaking taxes, the same jack-booted federal police tactics, the same IRS, the same lobbyists, and the same corrupt Washington politics.

Show me where any conservative principles are being adhered to.

Lady Liberty has indeed , crossed her arms and slipped into a coma!

I have been a Republican my entire life until now. I'll be joining a third party thanks to the GOP. I will not sat idly by and watch a "conservative" enable the destruction of my country.

Now you're slandering us??
You gang bang the only honest, qualified, decent candidate up there, you put up a lying, cheating, SOB with a bad temper who called us "racists" for wanting to protect our sovereignty and borders, you expect us to compete with illegals for bids on the jobsites while our insurance rates skyrocket, you praise a Huckafraud who pretends to be a Christian and breaks Commandments as easily as eating a bag of popcorn, then you slander US for not going along with it????

YOU ARE THE KAMAKAZIES and YOU ARE GETTING WHAT YOU ASKED FOR.

In the words of your new candidate, "F YOU." Hypocrites.

THIS AUTHOR IS INACCURATE AND MISLEADING
How so? i.e., Glenn Beck never said he would vote for Hillary. His comment was that he did not know who he would vote for. He compared the choices of Clinton, Obama, and McCain as a choice between a noose, a knife to the chest, or a gun to the head.

In the short term maybe political cannabalism does lead to starvation, but certainly not death. Death only comes by voting for the lessor of the three evils rather than voting for what you truly believe.

McCain's arrogance regarding the immigration situation is unparalleled. He completely failed to heed the will of the voters. For that he will win the battle, but lose the war--a tragic ending for an old military mind with a degree of senility. The other factor about McCain as a warrior is that I don't know if he is the guy I want to have with his hand on the "button." He's a little quirky.

And with his quick temper, he might just throw out the baby with the bath water. Yet as a warrior, he opposes waterboarding. Doesn't he get it? We are at war and need every bit of information we can possibly extract from our enemies. It could save countless civilian lives.

My political affections are conservative. I have never voted for a Democrat. It is better not to vote at all than cast a vote for the lessor of two evils. This will be the first year I won't vote in the Presidential race.

party hacks speak out
this article contains an over abundance of bull. bull that is flying hot and heavy from all corners of the GOP establishment land now.
I stopped voting "political party" when I became a breathing, thinking ADULT. I do NOT require being lead to a decision by any "political bosses and their servants". I shall not vote for McVain for all the reasons everyone states regularly and that this party hack, Parker, would discount for a 40 year old military service record, pulled out and dutifully polished in every election McVain has ever run in! We have had WAR HEROES elected to the Presidency, but in every case their uniformed service was recent to the date of their election. Give Vietnam a break! We live in a new century, and 40 years of a man's life is more than enough to make him over again on every level, so who would you have me vote for a McVain that existed 40 years ago?
McVain scares the poo out of me; it doesn't bother me to admit this; I lived through the Nixon Presidency, and I consider McVain to be channeling the ghost of "Tricky Dick" but made ever more dangerous by the inward proving grounds and hatreds of McVain.
McVain is not someone I would give my vote to for US President, period, and I am not addled enough to have forgotten what 4 yeras of Carter gained conservatives! The country may require a bit more pain and a stronger "hand slap" to learn, and I'm very content to allow that to be dished up by a Clinton or an Obama, but not a "conservative in name only" who has shown less "party" loyalty through the years than I have.

Ms. Parker ...
I read about the first 2 or 3 paragraphs and decided not to continue. You are by far my favorite columnist on TH because I think you always take a reasoned and thoughtful approach to any subject.

So, why didn't I finish your column? To be quite honest, on McCain, I don't want to be reasonable. Yes, I'm a kid throwing a temper tantrum. Just like I did in 1992 by voting
AGAINST Bush the First by voting FOR Perot. But see, I've convinced myself that by voting for a 3rd party in November, I'm being steadfast and holding true to my convictions.

I don't mean this a parody or to be silly. This is how I see things. I will NOT compromise and give tacit approval to a McCain presidency. My conscience won't allow it.

NEVER means NEVER
I will NEVER vote for traitor MCCAIN.
As far as Clinton...what's the diffference?
Let me spell it out for ya......all three frontrunners want to open the borders. Once they do that you can KISS this country goodbye. Nothing else matters once they finish us off .

The following is a quote
by Ken Duberstein a long time consultant and big hitter in the GOP in an interview a couple of days ago with Roger Simon.

"We are through with simply appealing to the base. McCain is trying to reach out to independents, weak Republicans, weak Democrats and conservative Democrats to put together a new governing coalition that is less confrontational."

So here you have it. The GOP is telling conservatives they can kiss off. They would rather have democrats than conservatives in the new GOP.

Conservatives that try to defend our Constitution and defend the culture that has created the best and most powerful country in the history of the world are too "confrontational".

This is by far the most insulting thing I have seen coming from the party I have supported my entire life.

They don't even need to imagine that they will get my vote.

Coulter for Clinton
Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are the prototypical abusive spouses. When they don't get what they want they whine and threaten and use guilt and shame or whatever emotional distortion is available to try to persuade others. These childish folks do not represent conservatives.

Round em up
Mark Steyn made a great point on Laura Ingrams show yesterday......We can't secure the southern border BUT the environmentalists CAN change the climate.....Boy if that doesn't sum it up....By the way Kathleen...if you were paying attention you would know that no one says to round up the 12 million-(more like 25 million). ATTRITION works!!! Don't insult me wit that McCain speak garbage!!!

I will take election day
to buy lightbulbs. Now that the compassionate conservative has decided to outlaw the greatest invention the world ever got, the incandescent light bulb, I plan to buy every one I can find and stockpile them so I don't have to submit to Big Brother's rules.

One small step for me, one big step for the revolution.

Not Vote?
All those above who state they will not vote should reflect.

Who will you be serving?

The Socialist Surrendocrats and Osama, that's who.

Stop pouting, pick up your ego and think about what is best for our wonderful country.

"America is not a country, it is an idea." Margaret Thatcher

Ciak

Rush never said he'd vote for Hillary
He said we should do a fund-raiser to help her stay in the race so the Republicans could win in November. It's called a sense of humor. Some people should get one. Like all of us, Rush said he would choose McCain over any Democrat simply because of national security issues, but he nor us will like it. The Republicans in Congress and other leaders have compromised so many times and laid down for democrats on principle after principle, that it is they who deserve McCain.

deja vu
You reporters also did a great job hiding how Huckabee won Iowa and the South, with the help of a *white supremacist* organization who piled into his campaign spending money and spreading religious bigotry. Now they are after another Mormon running in Colorado, Mark Udall. The Huckster said he didn't condone that, but he made some disgusting, bigoted statements himself and capitalized on it in every sense of the word, running one of the most abusive, dishonest campaigns I've ever seen. Good bye honest voters, hello again, KKK. Who needs money when you have their network on your side? You idiots.

NOT a Republican
Anyone who thinks McGang-of-14/Alito-is-too-conservative is going to actually fight a Democratically controlled Senate for conservative Supreme Court nominees has been taking too many of those cheap Canadian drugs. Let's look at his past. He didn't fight for Estrada, Owens, Pickering, Rogers, etc -- when the Republicans controlled the Senate. The smart money is that a McCompromise presidency's SCOTUS nominees will be AT BEST Ted Kennedy-approved "moderates."

As for the War on Terror -- if we aren't going to get serious about homeland security after all this time, maybe we SHOULD get the troops out of Iraq. McAmnesty thinks it's just fine to put gang members on the road to citizenship (on a promise they renounce their gang membership, uh huh), but he's against waterboarding of terrorists. Hey, why don't we just combine the two positions and let Al Qaeda members have citizenship if they "promise" to leave Al Qaeda!

I am not a Republican, kamikaze or otherwise. I often vote for Republicans -- but only if they earn my vote, which it looks like they aren't going to do this year. If McCain needs a label for me, tell him to call me a "maverick." Of course, if McMuzzle becomes president, it may become illegal to say much at all.

Ciak

Both Republican and Democrats have surrendered our Nation to Cina. You just don't see it yet. Tey have betrayed America and they no longer believe in it.

Pick an alternative party go to work
The answer is to get behind someone other than the Republican Party.

Three parties which are established and worth consideration are:

The America First Party
http://www.americafirstparty.org

The Constitution Party
http://www.constitutionparty.com

The Libertarian Party
http://www.lp.org

I'm going with America First since they have the most clear platform and the least baggage.

However, find one or start one that fits you and give it your energy.

*That* how we use the system to our advantage.

How many times
must you fall for their fear tactics?
McCain is an unrelenting enemy of the First Amendment.
Clinton is certainly no better and Obama is a blank slate, but at least neither of them CLAIMS to be a Republican or a conservative.

China - the new Hegemony

Republicans don't really believe in the constitution, conservative values or think it worth really fighting for our nation.

They have surrendered - Americans just don't realize yet that there is no choice, that Democracy is sham in this Nation and that we will soon be nothing but a tourist destination, lackys for China and India.

Our politicians over time have done this to us and will continue to lie, cheat and steal to accomplish that future.

Politicians I'm sure are saying to themselves "we are realists" when in fact they are weak people who believe in nothing and have surrendered this Nation.

Parker is a numbskull
Most of this jabber is either incorrect or irrelevent.

It's not 11 or 12 million illegals...it's 20.

Impossible to round up? When Oklahoma passed tough illegal immigrant laws they left on their own.

Of the 3 leading candidates, it won't matter who is elected because in 4 years there will be 50 million illegals dumbing down the school systems and turning health systems to chaos.

The McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Bill called for over $2 trillion additional taxes to support illegals. In 5 years make that $6 trillion.

If elected, McCain will sign that Bill when it's reintroduced.

3 peas in a pod...take your pick.

Disgusting column
There is no difference in the three leading candidates! Clinton, Obama or McCain. They are all a bunch of self agrandizing "Me First" power mad America haters. And, yes, I put McCain in that catagory too. What else can you believe when he wants to open the boarders, doesn't believe in waterboarding, and wants Gitmo closed. He actually wants those foul pieces of vaguely human trash brought here and afforded all the rights of a US citizen. Kathleen, I will not vote for McCain or the other two. (By the way my husband and I are both VN vets. We got over it a long time ago!) I will do everything I can to vote in conservatives at the local and state level. That's where change starts. I will also write in a more conservative candidate for president. Because of the MSM slant and because of cheating by the dems on primarys and caucuses Romney was given a false idea of where he stood. When you compromise your principles you lose your soul.

Fratured Movement
The conservative establishment is in shambles. We have had a two term Conservative President and a Republican dominated congress for most of those eight years and things are a mess and everyone knows it. Far right conservatives have a narritive that says our ideas did not fail, GWB failed us by not being conservative enough and Congress spent too much. But ourside of this bubble the public is not buying it. Conservatives are not buying it. The truth is there has never been one kind of conservative, or one playbook for conservatives. Social conservatives are very conservative on social issues but more moderate or populist on other matters. While pro defense, many are questioning the wisdom of the NEOCons That is why Huckabee has done as well as he has with these folks. Norquest tax conservatives could not give a hoot about social issues otherwise they would have to give up their own Hedonistic behaviors. Many would prefer to spend Sunday in with their mistresses than to be in church.

So with all these conservatives being conservative in only one way no wonder the candidate by default is a moderate by at least Ann Coulter standards. Traditional political theory says that moderates in either party will be the mostly likely candidates. This is has been so for most of our history. This must be a major disappointment for movement conservatives who belived that a permanent tranformation had taken place.

So movement conservatives have a choice, be Republicans and accept the compromises or be Conservatives join the Conservative Party and be to to Republicans what Micheal Moore and Ralph Nader are to the Democrats.

The Coulter thesis
that four years of Clinton or Obama would reenergise the Republican vote and allow a true Conservative back into the White House in 2012 has a lot to recommend it, were the civilised world not at war with Islam. The problem is we are. And neither the US nor us here in the UK can afford for Clinton or Obama to have four years in which to lose that war.

McCain may be a big government liberal who is weak on every issue other then National Security, but then Bush is no different (his sensible environmental policies aside). And in the same way Bush was better than Gore or Kerry, McCain is better than Clinton or Obama. It will be easier to install a true Conservative candidate in 2012 if McCain wins as McCain is unlikely to stand for a second term. While the border fence may never be built under McCain, neither will he get his scamnesty through.

I Do Trust McCain's Record
Let me point out some of my favorite McCain memories.

The boarder; *or "What boarder?* He so boasted he would take MA on Super Tuesday, if the Huckster hadn't split the conservative vote, he couldn't even get 50% in his own state. Main reason was the total love of illegals.

Judicial Picks; Can I remind you of his gang of 15? He helped block so many fine judges, & I am to believe he will now pick the kind of judges he so proudly help block?

Jim Jeffords; The only reason that McCain is still a Republican is that Jumping Jim jumped first.

Free Speech? Give me a break. That was bill to protect incumbents. And so far works for him.

He used his Mommy to attack Mitt's religon. Wow. Perhaps she can bake cookies for Bin Laden and entice him to surrender.

Kerry asked him to be his VP, or not, McCain's story changes, but if he is left enough to be linked with Kerry... How different will he be than Clinton?

He supports the war. THIS is the ONLY reason I could see to possibly vote for him. BUT not sure it's enough. His method of warfare was learned in Vietnam and he seems to like to fight with our hands behind our backs. I might care about water up the nose if the other side would refrain from butchering people.

I believe capitalism works, we don't need socialized medicine. Retailers are dropping prices of drugs and walk-in clinic are popping up all over. Competition works.

He voted against the Tax cuts, and if you check his real record not what he says now, you will know his reasons were based on class warfare. The rich get more.. Well DUMMY the rich pay way more.

I can't vote for Hillary.. I would self destruct. But I will be writing in Mitt Romney.

PS... foster care 2 crack babies
legal guardian 1 crack abused child 4 1/2 years until he became of age.
Right now have an entire family of 6 living with us due to the fathers problems with pills..

So Peter, what's your count?

Stop with the excuses.
Ms. Parker you make excuses for McCain apparently without realizing that all of those excuses claim he went contrary to conservative beliefs because, in a nut shell, he believed differently. That is the point exactly. His philosophical positions are all liberal ones.

McCain "tried" to reach out to conservatives yesterday in his speech at CPAC. "Many of you disagreed strongly with some positions I have taken in recent years," McCain said. "I understand that. I might not agree with it, but I respect it for the principled position it is."
(If the position is "principled" why doesn't he agree with it?)

Paul Weyrich, chairman of the Free Congress Foundation and a founder of the conservative movement who had endorsed Romney, said he had watched McCain's speech on television and doubted that he had convinced many on the right.

"It didn't go far enough," Mr. Weyrich said. "I am going to write in somebody."

McCain did not mention his campaign finance system, which is an assault on free speech, even if you, Ms. Parker insist it is an assault only on the free speech of the wealthy. (Such liberal nonsense.)

In his campaign speeches McCain has said over and over that he now understands the American peoples' position on closing the borders. He was afraid, and so never came out and said that he would put illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.

Now the lying weasel claims: "I stood my ground, aware that my position would imperil my campaign."

I will not cross-over, I will not vote for Hillary or Obama, but I will not vote for McCain.
This is not obstinance, this is a clear message that if the Republican party is moving left, I am moving on.

Oh come on
"When some people have greater access to 'free speech' by virtue of their deeper pockets, then one could fairly argue that less prosperous people are denied free speech. "

This argument does not work and is pure class warfare anyway.

Rush Limbaugh has a radio program that thousands if not millions of people listen to. I don't. Obviously I don't have the right to free speech.

Bull. Spin it any way you want, McCain-Feingold is an indefensible abridgement of constitutional rights.

I don't know what you're worried about.
The MSM is NEVER going to let McCain get elected POTUS.

All this jabbering is for naught.

Inspired
Oh, the names I've been called - kamikaze, stupid, irrational, etc. have finally illuminated the error of my ways - right!

Metaphorically, the choice set before me is, "would I prefer to shoot myself in the right foot or the left?" My choice is to refrain from pulling the trigger. I refuse to vote based upon a fear of what might happen. I will vote for the candidate who I believe deserves my support - if there is one.

McCain can gain my support by using the remaining time in the Senate prior to the election working to repeal McCain-Feingold; apologizing for McCain-Kennedy and enthusiastically supporting border enforcement; and denouncing McCain-Lieberman.

Three items only will gain my vote - correction of two past mistakes and avoidance of one future one.

Begging for team players
OK Parker, did McCain compromise his principles for the sake of the team when he wrote NCLB, McAmnesty, McCain-Feingold. Heck no!! But I'm supposed to for him? NOT! Shoe on the other foot doesn't fit so well now, does it Sen. McCain. Thou shalt reap what thou hast sown. I will vote as you also have voted; principle, party be damm'd.

I am a Kamikaze? OK
This is not only about conservative principles. I will not vote for John McCain because when the bridge is built to Mexico so that illegals can get here more easily, I want it to be a Democrat building that bridge, not a Republican! If the country is going to be destroyed from within, I want it to be a Democrat doing it, not a Republican.

There was an old song I used to sing to
...my children when they were quite small. All three of them hated it because the first lines repeated:
HAVE PATIENCE, HAVE PATIENCE ....

Great song and so applicable here because it seems as most of those espousing their diatribes today in this commentary are of the under thirty-five age group -- i.e. so unwilling to await the true McCain which will emerge over the next nine months leading up to the actual election (I say the true McCain because I think he has been planning this run for the Presidency since 2000 and it required a shift to the left by him).

If you had a reasonable modicum of perseverance in your convictions as CONSERVATIVES (whose home is currently in the Republican party) you would know there are at least two things that must be done:
1.) You must work very hard at building this cycles platform out of ONLY conservative planking;
and, 2.) You must work very hard at electing very conservative candidates in the primaries for both the house and senate and then seeing to it they are actually elected over their leftist opponents.

Go figure -- it is just too hard for those who have no patience so they give up – i.e. quit the fight and become losers in every definition of the word.

TBC :>(

BTW, I actually think this column was well written although not a call to action as it should have been. TBC

We As American Citizens Have A
responsibility to do the best we can for our country. Unfortunately, that means we have no other choice if we care about our country than to vote for McNasty. I have never known a man who disgust's me more than McShamnesty. However, Mitt Romney a man of class and honor, admonished conservative's to support McSlime if for no other reason than to support the war on terror.

I know, I feel the same as you do, McShame will sell out conservative principles on a whim whenever he thinks it will serve his selfish purposes. However, I believe that he will at least support the troops and the war that we must continue until it is won.

We as conservatives need to hold our nose as we pull the lever for McLiar accepting that he is little more than Hillobama and begin to work to re-take the GOP or move on to a new third party. For now, we have to vote for the war on terror if for nothing else.

2 choices
Well since the silver spoons deleated my first message il just repeat it.Those of the nit-wit silver spoon group who say they will not vote for McCain you have 2 choices,1 he loses and you willbe blamed for what happens then (high taxes, cowardice, govt health care, etc.) or 2 he wins and you silver spoons will be cast as irelevent (which you are).*silver spoon a person with no guts to serve and has had money from day 1.Now to the MORONS who backed that mormon Ramnesty. He went to the funeral of HIS "PROPHET" a couple of saturdays ago.NOW this is the year 2008 what INSANE person believes in a PROPHET in the year 2008????? GOOD GOD!!!!

Spare Me
That Mccain was a POW is irrelevant.
McCain has not closed and protected our borders and is no better on National Defense than Ted Kennedy.
McCain's amnesty program and promise of benefits to illegals is fiscal suicide.
If we maintain our short-sighted perspective and keep choosing the lesser of two evils, and if we keep lowering our expectations and demanding less of our nominee, we will be given less and we will be responsible for our own demise.

monkeyfish
That's the proper message.

You can't compare McCain with Mr. Empty Suit, another John "I Surrender" Edwards without the haircut. Mrs. Socialist is also uncomparable to John McCain. Name the person who has not for
one moment changed their stance on the war? Not Billary! That's for sure.

But it seems many conservatives would rather see Mr. Empty Suit or Mrs. Socialist taking on a pack of depraved killers, who have vowed and repeatedly tried, with some success, to destroy America.

From some of the posts I've read here today, that might end of becoming a reality. Hope they're happy.

Parker will never make the rifle team...
… because she couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with this one.

Does nobody else actually LISTEN to Rush? He’s been excoriating the politically suicidal tendencies of “purists” for years, reminding us that half a loaf (or a quarter, or maybe in McCain’s case, the crust) is better than none at all. What he’s been doing up until yesterday is heaving up a desperation pass, because McCain IS a weak candidate compared to Romney, coupled with the fact that he’s not as conservative. This insignificant foodfight will be forgotten in a couple weeks.

The truly offensive line in this column refers to McCain’s “earnest attempt to inject humane ethics into the mix.” Parker flunks the smell test here in implying that conservatism is something less than humane. She then proceeds to make a bad argument worse by suggesting that, wellllllll, McCain may have a point when he says “purchased speech isn't free”, as a justification for sticking a rag down our throats and duct-taping our mouths shut with You-know-who/Feingold. Fact is, railing against ol’ Johnny as the nominee is perfectly reasonable, as his flaws are glaring, and they’re right there in the store window for all to see.

I suppose I’ll be reluctantly choosing McCain in November, only because the alternative is too horrible to contemplate. But you can’t make me like it. And that’s the point of the talkers who have been so vociferously opposed to this guy as “our” candidate. We all know we could have done better, both in dogma and ability to get elected.

Thinking Long Term
Question for the appeasers: How bad would McCain have to be for you to admit that Conservatives should not support him? Do you really think that Hillary or Obama will want to preside over defeat in Iraq? Are all other issues off the table? During the past seven years McCain has time and again been a roadblock to mainstream Republican positions - judicial appointments, tax cuts, national sovereignty, effective interrogation and detention of terrorists, free speech in political campaigns, overturning Roe v Wade, telling the truth about global warming hype. He has been outspokenly contemptuous of those who oppose him, especially conservatives. George Bush has been bad enough as the face of the conservatism. Sacrificing our souls for the next four years on the McCain "lesser of evils" altar will, we fear, distort and destroy our very identity as a conservative force in America.

Is this TownHall or the DailyKos?
I'm beginning to think it's the latter as the responses to this and any other article even remotely deferential to a McCain nomination are immediately flamed. At the 'Kos, they refer to it as "TrollRating".

Why did Ms. Parker write this article? I'm guessing her concerns are more for her children and their children. What would a Clin/Bama presidency bring us? Crushing personal taxes to pay for out of control government spending. Oppressive corporate tax rates which would make the US even less competitive. Suffocating regulatory burdens on everything from corporate mergers to what soap you can buy. Not to mention Activist judges who treat the Constitution like Play-Doh and press its meaning from the plain English of the text into whatever view is necessary to validate the above policies.

President Reagan is no longer with us, and it's unlikely we'll see another man like him in our lifetimes. McCain certainly can't fill his shoes, but neither could any of the other candidates. He was totally wrong on immigration, but are we to assume the smackdown his position received from the people went unnoticed? The Gang of 14 was unpalatable, but it got several key judges through confirmation. The nuclear option? Sounds great until it gets used against us, and it most certainly would have been used against us by this Dem majority.

Townhall vs DailyKos continued
For me, John McCain didn't make the medal stand out of this bunch of candidates. But now he is the man the several states have chosen to carry our banner this November. I admire everyone here who defends their convictions with the ferocity on display. But, when you face yourself in the mirror, you need to ask yourselves a question. Are my convictions worth jeopardizing our Republic? Because if either Dem sets foot in the White House in 2009, you will see a majority that can vote itself the largess of the treasury, and the Republic will be lost. We'll have seven or eight months to drill into the Senator's head our displeasure at some of the positions he's taken. Hopefully the Dems will be squabbling all the way up to their convention. But you can bet you last lone dollar that once they pick their candidate, they'll be behind them full force within a matter of weeks.

Contemplate all those liberal things you might get during a McCain presidency. You'll definitely get them during a Clinton or Obama presidency, along with many, many more liberal things even McCain would consider absurd.

Kamikazi today
and 'suicide bombers' yesterday by that monopoly looking dude, Gordon Libby. When I was equated with a 'suicide bomber', I was really thrown. So conservatives are not only attacked from the dems but now from the GOP, the party we formed, built, paid for, stomped for. Now the entire establishment has begun the 'canabolizing' of conservatives. How smart can the GOP be when they send their foot trolls out to call us 'suicide bombers', kamakazis, idiots, immature, spoiled brats, fools, we deserve the evil that comes to us, blah, blah, blah.

Bill Orielly, at least, stated we have the right to vote our conscience. So trolls, you had the right to sell your soul, you had the right to vote for McCain, I have the right to not vote for him.

Come Into My Parlor
Come into my parlor said the spider to the compromisers.

3rd Party vote
Over the years I've learned a little principle for change. If you want something to happen, casually mentioning how much you want it or how much you disagree will get you nowhere. Change comes from those who pull hardest at the opposite end of the spectrum. I strongly agree with those who are totally fed up with the Republican party's choices. I too will have a very hard time voting for McCain because of his stance on embryonic stem cell research and his statements on gay marriage. Don't ask me to compromise on these key issues because I will not! Those of us who want change in the party then must make the loudest noise and take the most extreme measures to let our voice be heard. This is what it will take or the Republican party will forever be lost as it slides down the slippery slope of liberalism.

So then Republican Party, if you want our vote, run someone who is true to the values of our founding fathers not someone hell bent on trampling the constitution and approving the sale of body parts for research!

Kamikaze Republicans
It's a shame that with 300 million people in the U.S., McCain is the best we could come up with. Voting FOR him is like voting for the school bully for class president. Rather than not vote at all, my first choice, I'll vote for Obama (if that's a choice). The worst thing about this whole mess is that Hillary is young enough, so that if she doesn't make it this time, we have not heard the last of her. UGH!!

jqmilktoast
Right on target!

Could it be more painfully clear?

I would add this........

TO FRIENDS OF TH AND ALL CONSERVATIVES:

John McCain will not take his marching orders from the DailyKos, Moveontraitors.org and Mediamatters. In other words, he won't take his orders from AlQaeda.

Billary?? Kos, Moveontraitors and MM love her.

Obama?????? They love him even more!

Mz Parker's BS
The way I see it, there are just TWO areas that differentiate McClaim from the ultra-libs.

1. McCrusty DOES support the 2nd Amendment (so far).

2. McClammy DOES understand the difference between winning a war and surrender, AND what will happen IF we abandon the war in Iraq.

As for me, I will vote AGAINST the Dimmys.

I watched several interesting programs recently. It dealt with proficies, projections, etc of several cultures (Aztecs, Chinese, etc). ALL of them predicted the "end-of-the-world" in 2010!!!
That means just ONE YEAR of whoever becomes prez.

I'm Ann's girl
I think on this one I am going to have to fall in line with Ann Coulter. It makes me retch, but I think it is the only choice I have. Vote third party and risk the country for a few years or, for McCain and see the ruin of the conservative movement and the long term demise of my beloved country...?

REALITY CHECK
Yell & scream, get it out of your system. Its like the pregnant daughter: You tell her not to fool around before marriage, bombard her with the consequences, etc.. but after the deed is done, you make the best of it. We can't go back & change the nominee; now its all about Damage Control. Hold your nose, vote for McCain, and try harder to effect the next Rep nomination.

If we never stand for principle
when will we ever secure a real change? The two parties have scammed "we the people" into believing that there is no other choice, and with that attitude prevailing, they further the internationalist agenda that is destroying our great country.

Our resources are being squandered, our militray weakened, our sovereignty sold out, and the future mortgaged on the backs of us all, the hard working middle class that will be taxed over and over to pay for our own demise.

This is the time and this is the election to stand up to the elites! How can we contemplate once again voting the lesser of two evils, and then expect a different result that never has and never will materialize?

If you still have faith in the spirit of freedom that built this great nation, then I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG! It is the one place you will find common sense to problem solving, and an undying love for our home. Why should we trust the DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda machines that tell us that only the elites have the necessary wisdom, knowledge, and experience to govern? That is the biggest lie of all.

Check out the site, why not? The elites have already stolen our inheritance! Are we going to sit back and allow them to continue this theft? Is that what we will hand off to our children? I cannot believe we will once again roll over and surrender our birthright! What do you believe? Thanks, Joe

Non Compromisers
Put these non-compromisers back on their meds. Life is full of less than perfect choices. Grow up and make the best out of a problem. George W. Bush has been a catastrophe for the conservative movement which I have supported since the 1960s when I was a student at Cal (University of California at Berkeley). They remind me of the Campus Young Republicans who wouldn't let our group at Cal join their convention in Oakland in 1969 because they wouldn't believe that you could be a conservative there. Narrow-minded idiots. In their small cliques, you have to follow the party line or you should be excommunicated.
If they want a perfect world, they should wait until they die - then they'll finally get it. Meanwhile, those of us who live on Earth will vote happily for McCain.
Or maybe they prefer to vote for Hillary Rodham - who as a law student went from New Haven Conn to Oakland to word for Robert Truhaft (sp), a well know radical lawyer and admitted former Communist Party member who was one of the lawyers for the Black Panthers. Yes, Hillary's impeccable judgment led her to go all the way across the country to help that group of predators, killers and criminals. They will let her become President so that they can remain "pure'?

Time for Third Party
The Republican Party is no more. It is bought and paid for by many of the same people who have bought and paid for the Democratic Party.

The liberals know exactly how to pull the strings to beat conservatives, and that is to help the Republicans nominate liberals and moderates. Look at who ran against Bill Clinton. Look at who ran against Carter. And lastly, look who we nominated for 2000 and 2004. Many conservatives held their noses and voted for George W. and with that help, he closely won. But no more. We have been betrayed by the moderate republicans too long. They are stupid trying to reach across the aisle to socialist democrats who would destroy freedom rather than compromise. They are stupid to allow the liberals to help them nominate a moderate.

The liberal press helped nominate McClain. Watch how they begin their assault on this same man that they just loved over the past six months or so. I don't care how many conservatives hold their noses and vote for McClain. He will not win. The liberals helped to nominate him, and now they will destroy him. Just watch!

Yes... it is time for Conservatives to Unite and form a third party. We may take a few years, but enough is enough!

Les Wood
Plains, Montana

Can't you see
we are in this position because the GOP KNEW we would compromise?! Of course they can keep going left. YOU keep sending the signal it is 'ok' to go left. YOU keep sending the signal that if the nominee is Ted Kennedy, because of party loyalty, YOU WILL VOTE FOR HIM!

Each time we compromise, the GOP pushes the envelope a little further left. The sheeple keep following and supporting because of the (R). No more! My last compromise was Bush. Those loyal to the GOP are like bad parents. You are staunch enablers of this wayward child.
I am the good parent practicing tough love.

Ms. Parker, right back atcha!...you deserve what you get.

Conservatives refusing to vote
Means a defacto win for the liberals.

Many of you remind me of children in the sandbox who insist that if the game isn't played THEIR way they won't play. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face! It's ridiculous.

I'd rather have a conservative moderate in office who says he'll veto earmarks and appoint constructionist judges than a raving liberal who has already gutted the military to make it look like the government can provide cradle-to-gave social programs and have a balanced budget.

Which would you rather have?

I was always okay with McCain-Feingold. I think freedom of speech shouldn't rely on who has the deeper pockets. I didn't like McCain-Kennedy for the most part but then again, I was opposed to the Ketchikan bridge-to-Douglas Island (also called "nowhere") which came from a very conservative senator from my own state. In other words, no candidate will ever be perfect and do exactly what I want them to do unless I run for public office and somehow manage to get elected. Even then, I think I'd find myself being forced to compromise on some things in order to make others happen. That's the nature of politics, don't you know.

McCain has not gotten the nomination yet, but it looks like he will. He's not my perfect candidate, but he's not the lesser of two evils either. He's a moderate conservative and any candidate who is at least not liberal is a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.

Do you people really want Hillary or Obama appointing the next three SCOTUS openings, likely to occur in the next eight years? Think about liberal, deconstructionist judges and ask yourself where the conservative movement will be in 10 years if our rights have been completely taken away by SCOTUS rulings?

Come on! You can envision it! Taste bitter yet?

John McCain
Has McCain already won the nomination?

Do all these pundits know something the rest of us don't know?

As long as there remains the possibility that he won't be the nominee (he could croak between now and the convention), why not compare his record with the other two people running on the Republican side?

like talking to the mirror

Why do you expect to find someone, anyone, who agrees with you, or you agree with him, all of the time? You want a Castro and Cuba?

If you find someone you agree with completely, at least one of you is not needed. I don’t listen to Limbaugh on the radio, because it is like listening to the mirror. I listen (a few minutes, once in a while) to the Hate America Radio Network, as a “Know your enemy” chore.

Surprise, I don’t even agree with me all of the time, and I am as near perfect as anyone in this room, right now.

MCCAIN
Parker is back with that old tired excuse the Dems and McCain have been giving us all along. That it would be impossible to round up all the illegals and send them home. Over and over we have said you don't have to round them up. Just quit hiring them, quit giving them welfare, free medical and other benefits. And they will go home on their own.
Senor Fox has appearances scheduled in 5 American cities, insisting how good amnesty and open borders will be for our country. Why doesn't someone ask him if he is not ashamed that in all these years, he and the other corrupt politicians could not create decent paying jobs for his people. Why is he not ashamed that they have to flee their country and take handouts from Americans to survive? Why does he let Americans set up companies in Mexico and pay his people slaves wages. How much did these companies pay him in order to be allowed to do this. Mexico is a wealthy country and yet his people have to risk their lives to flee to America. When open borders come about both the illegals and Americans will suffer.
Parker seems to have never heard of the NAU. She has lost all credibility. And since I don't think she has the wealth or power of a Rockefeller/Bush/kennedy she is not going to be any better off then we are. The elites will sit in their lavish, guarded homes on the hill and look down on poverty just as Mexico,India, etc do. And all the Hollywoodites who are supporting amnesty only want their cheap servants and landscaper. They are too dumb to know that with open borders American will be too poor to pay to go to a movie.
Just this week retail stores, etc are complaining about records low in sales on anything but necessities. What do they think we are going to buy when the NAU happens. We are going to be buying rice and beans just as the illegals do now.
So who do we vote for. I will not vote for Senor McCain.

Who Is Worse?
A person in your family that repeatedly stabbs you in the back or a blood enemy that acts like a blood enemy?

It is the fault of all those psuedo Republicans that voted for John McCain. You guaranteed we would have a liberal as the next president. Now your complaining that we don't support your liberal instead of the Dems liberal.

Screw you all. Republicans deserve a four year dose of Clintonomics. Go ahead, keep compromising with liberals, see where it gets you!

It ain't that simple
If it were just his opposition to waterboarding, and a few other such things I might see myself voting for him. But it is also his expressed utter contempt for conservatives, his publicly vulgarly cursing out my senator for opposing parts of his amnesty plan for illegals, and a whole string of other very smelly things. And by the way, I think "moderate" is a misleading label to apply to John McCain. We don't need a man who can't control his temper sitting with his finger anywhere near a red button. No thanks.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tie John McCain's hands with an ultra- conservative platform and with a conservative congress and conservative State Houses.

Then vote for him.

Only if the above is too much work for you should you allow a socialist (Hilldebeast or B O) to be elected and that is INSANITY!

TBC `:>)

DO NOT SIT OUT THE ELECTION.
If you don't like any of the presidential candidates, you don't have to pull the lever for any of them. However, you have to vote to get a large conservative majority in both houses of Congress, a conservative state governor, and a large conservative majority in the state legislature. We need conservative control of government to stop both democ-rat candidates, and both RINO candidates. Get out there and vote Conservative.

aurorawatcher
perhaps the difference between you and conservatives proud enough and adult enough to exercise their INDEPENDENT right to make their own choices is that they don't see this election in terms of a GAME.

What a hack
presenting a smarmy article. So like a fool, you're going to join hands with a liberal senator who has stabbed the GOP in the back for 20 years?

This man, who has never been loyal to the party before is now asking all of us to unite in the name of party loyalty?

And who is arrogant, Kathleen? Hello, pot calling kettle black! You and McAmnesty berate us and talk about the waning influence of talk radio and it's audience, all the while saying you need our votes. If we have no influence and don't know what we're talking about, why do you need our vote?

Take a long walk off a short pier, you loser. There is only ONE person to blame for WHATEVER happens in the next 4 years, and it's not true conservatives. It's JOHN MCCAIN.

I didn't join hands with Demorats every chance I got, I didn't fight for Mexicans over Americans, I didn't create the gang of 14, I didn't pledge to spend trillions on global warming if elected. That's HIS record!

And now you put lipstick on the pig and praise his conservatism? What the hell are you doing writing for this audience, you hack?

McCain didn't apologize ONCE at CPAC for sticking the knife into our backs, NOT ONCE! HE NEEDS US, WE DON'T NEED HIM.

So if you all want the conservative vote, I have one suggestion: START GROVELING. Otherwise, enjoy your loss this year, you bullies.

And as far as talk radio? They reach more listeners than Matthews, Olberman, Blitzer, and YOU. It's not a surprise you would attack them. They aren't in danger of losing their jobs one bit. Hack.

Amen aurorawatcher!
McCain wouldn't have been my first choice. But then again, my first choice, Fred Thompson, didn't light up the night either.

Hillary over McCain? Heck No! Do you really want her in office for four days let alone four YEARS?

Perfect isn't running, nor has it ever. No carbon-based life form is perfect. If you're looking for a person who is going to agree with all your opinions, enter the race yourself. It's the only way it's going to happen.

Geez, figure it out already...
Conservatives are not a majority in this country. Never have been, never will be. Stop acting like you are getting screwed. This is politics and this is the process.

Do you ever hear the Democrats crying so much because a Republican is in the WH or they lost control of the both Houses for the first time in 40 years, since regained? No they keep working to espouse and promote their ideals and hope the Republicans self destruct, which looks to be the case.

How did so many Congressional Democrats win in 2006? By moving more to the middle on things like national security, fiscal constraint and even immigration control. Far from the desires of the far left wing of their party.

Face reality and get over yourselves. You still need to work your representative and your Senators and your President to promote your convictions and goals. When you at least represent a member of that politicians voting bloc you at least carry some weight. Try influencing President Clinton or Obama.

This is not a 4 year cycle being elected in November. This is a 30-40 year tenure on the Supreme Court where a conservative breakthrough is on the cusp of reality.

Start with the McCain in the WH and then work on 2010 and 2012 to take back Congress. One thing for certain is that Democratic control in the legislative and executive branches spells doom for the country.

BTW, chances are the Democrats will pick up seats in both houses this fall. With a Democrat in the White House the Republicans probably cannot even be an obstructionist minority. Sad times ahead indeed if that comes to pass.

What we can do.
You managed to miss all the reasons I will not be voting for McCain. I really wouldn't believe him when he says he has heard the American people or that he would appoint judges we would approve of. He will just take a look at the polls and do whatever the pollsters tell him will be good for his reelection. Oh, yes, if elected, he will run again.

Quite honestly Clinton, McCain, Obama it isn't really going to matter, they will all do exactly the same things. The only things we can do now are:
1)Unite behind a conservative candidate and show the GOP how many of us there actually are.
and
2)Campaign long and hard for Senators and Representatives who are truly conservative.

Let's meet who ever wins in congress with with a group of true conservatives to work with.

McCain will not yield to military
humiliation in the Middle East. He will not gut the military or treat service like the refuge of the halt and the lame, a la Kerry and his ilk.

McCain will not try to mandate garnishing wages to implement a compulsory "national" health system.

McCain will not institutionalize the entire leftist agenda from gay marriage to feminist ideas of compensatory wages.

McCain will not stand for the continued culture of earmarks and pork because he used to publish a porker of the month list himself.

If he isn't perfect for the "pure" conservatives, their non-votes or third parties will only elect Hillary.

Then they can take the thumbs they're sukcing and stick them in their ears. It will be their fault. And what will the GOP owe them then? Nothing.

Republican Chairman

I wouldn't vote for a Republican or a Democrat coming out of the locl parties until the Chairman and Officers ave been replaced.

The problem begins in YOUR neighborhood with the small but viciuosly loyal Party Chairman and their cohorts that reliably show up to vote their candidates to conventions and select candidates.

There isn't a conservative candidate coming out of any othem in my neighborhood. How is it in YOUR neighborhood?

renny
"McCain will not institutionalize the entire leftist agenda from gay marriage to feminist ideas of compensatory wages.

------
How do you know he won't? It was assumed any attack on any amendment would have come from the dems. It was Repub McCain leading that charge. That's no small matter.

Who cares about the pork? The current pork will pale in comparison to spending on illegals and global warming. So what. McCain fights a few million dollars in pork but creates a trillion dollar global warming bill and a multi trillion dollar amnesty provision.

Flying Fig Leaf Alert
Well, I told ya'll that the McWhores would be out in force soon pushing their fig leaves for those who have obediently dropped their Drawers for the McChurian Candidate. Glad to see you were prompt Cat!

Glad as well to see Cat beechn that Beck, as well as Rush and Sean (if he meant what he said in his monolog this pm) have yet to bend over.

I still predict A.(pox on both your houses) Coulter will be the last Virginal Conservative PUNDIT (pleanty of us Rank and File won't grab ankles for the Party Bosses)come november hope I'm wrong bout Beck, Rush, Sean, Lara, but we'll see won't we?

Note the substance of Cat's fig leaf:
1. Mc is stronger on the War--no sheite--too bad winning on the Eastern Front still means we're DESTROYED on the Southern and Home Fronts.

2. We O2C2s (Out of Control AKA Kamakazie Conservatives) are "irrational" "cannablistic"
"not serious" "obstinant"--gee the same thing the COMMIEQUEER DUMBOLCRAPS say about us--which is sorta OUR point, Cat!

3. The Clinton's (it's Hillybama, Cat) are worse.

Well, I'll show you different below, Cat.

The big mick
O2C2 (b) Backlash Brigade and Charter Member of Conservatives for Hillybama.

Dole V Clinton The Rematch!
The Tale of the Tape, let's see how Cat's Conservative McChurian Candidate stacks up, shall we?

Mc is old-Hillybama is young, fresh, youthful,
In an age of change:
Mc is old old school insider--hillybama is newer
more outside,
a change agent

mc is a grumpyprick--hillybama preaches hope
Mc is nixon--they got the Black JFK
Mc is Dole the lesser-they Got Clintonthe woman.

And Mac has the reach on em where??????

but that's not the REAL issue, is it, Cat, no YOU know and you pooh poohed us JUST LIKE the cqdems did, didn't you!

mick

The LOOSING ISSUE
Cat knows, as do the Establishment Party Machine Bosses that THE WINNING issue for Conservatives was IMMIGRATION!! 70% of the electorate are WITH us on that, on the OPPOSITE side of Hillybama.
And who got the nom? And who made sure we DIDN'T have the choice of a Candiate Strongly on the RIGHT side of Immigration? And who is Cat spreadin and shillin for here? And what does SHE say about Immigration: only us stupid people believe because: "It ain't gonna happen."
Why NOT, Cat, because somebodies don't WANT it to happen? Somebodies who would rather LOSE an election?
Elect me President, Cat, and I'll show you it CAN be done. I'll SHOOT em one at a time if I have to. Too long for MY life time, but I MIGHT be able to get some help!

Compromise with the ''Rockefeller...
--
...Republicans" after Goldwater's MSM-manufactured loss to that slimy sumbitch Johnson got us two utterly disastrous terms of Nixon (during which I could give a speech in my college Rhetoric class entitled "The Republican Party as a Criminal Conspiracy" and draw cheers from a Jesuit priest and two dozen YAF-ish conservative fellow students).

Nixonoid "moderate" jerkwads like McCain do more damage to the Republican Party (and the nation) than any "Socialist Party A" Democrat could ever manage.

The people of America are trained to believe that they have two and *ONLY* two political alternatives: the Democrats and the Republicans.

They don't think about independents except as a protest vote.

(The way voting Republican here in New Jersey is nothing but a protest vote. If the Evil Party were to run the corresponding secretary of NAMBLA as their presidential candidate, they'd come away with all 15 of the Garden State's electoral votes no later than 5:15 PM on November 4th.)

The most hideous effect of a McCain presidency would be the fact that during the duration of his White House infestation, there would be *NO* alternative to the "Liberal" agenda.

America would have no choice, no defense, no protection. Deprived of its status as strenuous opponents of a Democrat presidency, the Republican minority in Congress would - out of the same idiot party loyalty that the "moderates" are urging us honest conservatives to support McCain's utterly damned campaign - be tainted by their affiliation with this (nominal) GOP president, and unable to effectively fight against his stupidities and treachery.

I can think of no better way to destroy the conservative movement in America than for *REAL* Republicans to "suck it up" and support this walking abortion of a candidate.

--

Let me repeat for Renny
You can't put this on true conservatives. Again, I didn't create McCain's record, HE DID.

He hasn't garnered trust, and won't. That's not our fault, it's HIS.

The past is a good predictor of the future. Juan calls us names too. I'm against amnesty (which he will STILL enact), and McLame calls me a racist.

If he wins, the GOP goes left, he enacts much of what Dems want, (his pals! He said both Hillary AND Obama would make great presidents!) and the party is THROUGH for a long time. The Dems win, and Reps will either have to go along or start fighting. Under Juan they don't have to do jack.

This mess is YOUR fault. I stood by MY principles. YOU compromised, not me. You are giving the GOP the ok to tack leftward, not me.

Let me repeat: YOU NEED US. WE DON'T NEED YOU.

So keep insulting us, we're irrelevant, we're not true conservatives. Keep it up. Yeah, that'll draw people into your tent. You're a BULLY, just like McIdiot.

You are blaming us already because you know this loser will get crushed, and rather than look at yourselves and your lack of principles, you'll point at us and say. "Those folks who kept to their values, didn't go along to get along, didn't join hands with the Democrats, yeah it's THEIR FAULT."

So keep name-calling. We got fooled once with W's "conservatism." So the saying goes, "Fool me once..."

I won't drink the kool-aid, which tastes even lousier than the last time. With a Dem, the GOP will finally have to get off its fat *ss and do something. You got 3 candidates who ALL want MexAmeriCanada.

Rater than hurl insults our way, you should convince your candidate to apologize for his past hijinks, and get him to SIGN some PROMISES to the rest of us. It's been done before with others. He won't do it, though.

Go ahead, jump off the cliff with him. As you're falling, you can shout at the rest of us how it's our fault you're heading to the bottom.

the audacity of Kathleen Parker

Vote for McCain....a guy determined to spend trillions in Iraq for a 100 years against guarding their borders against an enemy that had no navy, no marines, no air force, and a shoeless army, who didn't attack us....and perhaps McCain will fight hundreds of future wars since we don't know what future enemy we are in the process of training and creating. Hopefully he will have enough sense to actually find bin Laden.

Vote for global warming McCain, who thinks that drilling in ANWR is not part of a strategy to ween ourselves off of foreign oil.

Or....vote for a democrat who will by the process of trying to spend trillions redistributing incomes to bring you government healthcare, will actually create an environment for a fiscally responsible Republican house and senate.

A inefficient, and gridlock senate is preferrable to McCain siding time and time again with the other side of the aisle.

As for me, I'm sitting this one out....

2 thoughts on the McBeeches out there
How do you KNOW, based on what he actually HAS done, that The McChurian Candidate is not going to continue to "reach out" to his ubercommiequeer buds on the hill ON issues like,
Gov Spending, On issues like Healthcare, On issues like Iraq--he's rolled over so many times on KEY issues like the Gang 14, Like McFiengeld, Like Anwr, Like Waterboarding, Like McKennedy, like Tax Cut, how do you KNOW he will suddenly CHANGE is pattern and do YOUR bidding???
All this stuff you say "Mac WON'T" I say--his RECORD says HE WILL!

And again I say, it does NO Good to Win the Eastern front if he caves on the Southern and the Homefront--our destruction is just as sure there.

The FACT is McBeeches, that Mc, with the POSSIBLE exception of Iraq is NO BETTER than Hillybama on EVERY MAJOR VITAL ISSUE--Judges
Taxes, Size Gov, Immigration, McFiengeld, etc etc etc etc

In FACT he is WORSE! His is the slow poison of Socialism Lite--a course you all have been pursuing since the Gipper left office. his slow poison kills MORE SURELY BECAUSE it is slower.
I will take not one more step down that road.
I will vote for Hillybama's socialism straight in the hope America chokes on it and pukes it up befor a fatal dose is absorbed. Given that McCain is more of the same slow fatal poison--carefully accustoming the victim. I'll take it straight and hope for a hurl.
mick

2nd thought
Have you GOT it yet, McBeeches? All you are saying is the decades old Party Machine line--it's the same compromising Socilism Lite that has brought us to the BRINK of Socialism--YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ANY WORSE--you have finally compromised to the point where the LESSER of the evils IS the Dumbolcrap!!!! YOU DID THAT!
All Mac Buys us is the slower poison that lulls till death is assured. At least with Hillybama we got the CHANCE of an allergic reaction.
I won't go one more step down the slow road, I will not be Mc'sBeech. I will vote for Hillybama.

Last thought on Flying Figleaves.--
The Pro Pundits, like Cat HAVE to spread and shill for mac BECAUSE if they don't they lose their access, thier face time on Fox and their a-list party invites. If they don't deliver their conseravtive sheep to the party bosses they have no value to those bosses. That's why their conservative principles are open to purchase. I wish them happy landings on their McBruised rump.

As for me, I changed my registration to Independent today. Mc and the EPM Bosses, can go on back to the Country Club and chortle to their Frat bros how they "had" the poor stupid naive Conservative Girls. Me, I'm walking away with my Principles and Dignity Virginal.

the big mick

to da Mick:
Sorry, BigMuck,
Illegal immigration was never "the winning issue," as history is pointing out. All your voting power amounted to a hellofa Mount McKinley moanin and groaning in pain of childbirth; and the straining of its massive bulk now at last has given birth to a mouse. You LOST.

How can you treat your horrible embarrassment as if it's a "winning issue," --Bozo ?

Biting your nose to spite your face....
Boy, many of you "conservatives" make me ashamed to call myself the same. Where is the logic in either sitting out the election, or voting for a liberal or a radical liberal?? So, some of you won't vote for McCain because he called us bigots for opposing his ideas on illegal immigration. Do you really think that Barack and Hillary don't also think the same thing....but they also want to pull the troops out of Iraq as soon as they get in, and they think you can "dialogue" with the terrorists! Bottom line is McCain isn't perfect, but he understands the enemy!

How to get conservatives to vote for you
Mr. McCain, you CAN win our vote! Here's the secret:

1. Come with hat in hand and show some humility.

2. Begin compromising with US, rather than with Demorats.

3. Stop calling us names like "racist."

4. Tell us what you're going to do for US, not what we are going to do for you.

5. After you said that Shrillary and Osama would make good Presidents, tell us why we should vote for you.

6. Put your favorable promises to us ON PAPER, then SIGN IT, and give us a copy.

7. Renounce McCain/Feingold, McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Lieberman and all the other wrong-headed legislation you've enacted.

8. Stop acting like such a jerk.

Let's see, did I miss any? Anyone?

Wow the humor here
is great.

So, McLame understands the enemy, huh?

Is that why he wants to close Gitmo, bring the terrorists into our court system, eliminate waterboarding, etc.?

Yeah, you should be ashamed. Ashamed that you're an idiot.

Sorry, Ms. Parker, but...
the only compromise showing up on any horizon anywhere is the compromise that mainstream media pundits like yourself are falling over again and again, the compromise they are initiating by encouraging conservatives to buck up, swallow it, hold their noses, support the party and vote for McCain. And for all that bending-over compromise, we would get what exactly? A possible Republican win in November? The possibility that McCain might if he is so inclined appoint a conservative judge?

Sorry, Ms. Parker, not enough in return. I HAVE held my nose before. I HAVE voted for the lesser of evils before. But like several have cited here, I didn't appreciate Mr. McCain calling me a racist because I want to stop the flood of illegals scurrying across the border by the hundreds. Time to say no, no more voting based on compromise.

Frankly, I want the GOP to lose in November, so long as McCain is the nominee. John McCain's Presidency would, single-handedly, drive the Republican party so far left that it may not be recoverable. Obama, Clinton or McCain -- a Presidency of any one of them will lead largely to the same travesty.

America had its chances with Tancredo, Hunter, Thompson and Romney. Again and again, America blew it. It's time NOT to support a whole-hearted meltdown via a McCain election.

Belay this garbage
Ms Parker. What you folks in Washington don`t understand is that we don`t give a rip about "the Party". I`m a very active observer and reader of government and economics, but couldn`t care less about politicians or the horse race or victory for one group or another.

I`m speaking for many now I hope. We love America and the Constitution, but find most political activity and politicians abhorrent. We believe that if things don`t change rapidly in this country, it won`t matter who is at the helm when she folds. And I`m not about to compromise my principles and become complicit in America`s demise.

Someone today observed that we will have a race between two candidates both of whom had 2/3 of their party vote against them in the primaries. The parties are pitting loser against loser and we`re all supposed to join in.

I

continued
I`m a disgusted voter and John McCain will NEVER get my vote. Period.

Liberal Republicans Whine
You liberal Republicans whine and whine because we won't vote for your boy (even though we're irrelevant...)

You accuse us of being purists, of being unwilling to accept a less than perfect candidate.

NONE of the candidates have been PERFECTLY conservative. So we were compromising from the gitgo.

But the thing is, in a compromise, you give something to get something. If I give up securing the border... what do I get? More infringement of free speech? More coddling of terrorists? More policies that will lose us the War on Terror?

McCain doesn't have anything to give me in this compromise, any more than Hillary has. I cannot believe him; not only has he lied too many times, in his CPAC speech, which everyone agreed had to be reconciliatory, he never admitted he was wrong, he never claimed to have had an epiphany, and worst of all, when speaking of the amnesty bill, he continued to emphasize getting the border secured issue out of the way and THEN focussing on the rest of the issue... when there is no other "rest of" the issue to focus upon!
Seal the border, kick the illegals out (remove them from protection of law and let them self-deport,) agree to do NOTHING toward a guest worker program, and you have my attention. After you agree with that, prove to me beyond any doubt that this is what you will do, and then I will vote for you.

THAT is the only compromise that can work. Anything less is not compromise, but capitulation!

FANATICAL CONSERVATIVES UNITE!
THE JAPS IN WW2 DID IT..WE CAN TOO..LETS ALL TAKE A NIP OF SAKE AND RAM OUR ZERO'S RIGHT INTO THE BOW OF THE MOTHERSHIP! HOW ELSE CAN WE GET OUR POINT ACROSS? WE ARE OUTNUMBERED BY ILLEGAL ALIENS WHO WILL SOON BE ABLE TO VOTE AND WELFARE STATE DEPENDENTS WHO NEED MOTHER HILLARY SO WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PUT THE GUN AGAINST OUR HEADS AND PULL THE TRIGGER!

Is Rush or his Critics more at fault
I wish that without speaking in platitudes, those who criticize Rush on his McCain "bashing", would offer some specifics. What exactly are the differences between Hillary or Barack and McCain?
McCain is for the surge, but against Gitmo, strong interogations etc. He's for lowering our taxes but voted against W's tax cuts. He's for energy independence, but voted against ANWR. The list goes on and on of his contracdictions.
The bottom line for me and I think many more like me is this. I heard his speech yesterday, found myself at best skeltical. For sure, I predict that if he doesn't in short order make specific his claims in the CPAC speech--what does he mean exactly by "securing our borders, first" etc.--there will be a 3rd party move that will for now split the GOP. As he is, there is no way I'll support him, but will give one more chance.

Explain something to me Kathleen
The strategy of the moderates GOP elites in this campaign has been to use non-Republicans to get their liberal/moderate guy, McCain, the nomination in spite of the fact that they know very well how much we dislike him for legitimate policy reasons. Now that they have sewn up the nomination for their guy, using the votes of non-Republicans, they (and you) are telling us we have no choice but to eat what Rush Limbaugh calls "another excrement sandwich" and vote for McCain because alternative is either Clinton or Obama.

If we conservatives allow this strategy of the moderates in our party to work, when will we ever get a conservative nominee? If we continue to let the moderate party elites steal the nomination from us what reason will they ever have to allow a conservative agenda within the party?

Do you and others who urge compromise for the sake of the party even understand that McCain was not chosen by Republicans? He is a creation of the liberal media. He was chosen by the liberal media, independents, and crossover Democrats. In several of the primaries he won he didn't even get a plurality of the Republican vote. And other states that he won will go blue in November no matter who the Democrat nominee is.

We conservatives sucked it up and put Bush in for another four years in 2004 because the alternative was Kerry. That's the last free ride the moderates and elites get. The nomination of McCain is more than just another slap in our faces. It is the last straw.

Calling all conservatives. Vote for someone other than McCain in 2008. I suggest you write in the name of whomever you really wanted for the nomination. I'm writing in Hunter.

Inhofe for President
When I thought Inhofe was endorsing McCain, I wrote a nasty email to him (followed immediately by an apologetic one; it was Coburn who was supporting McCain.)

I just got a reply to my email. In it, he said:

"On May 2, 2007 , I reintroduced the ENFORCE (Engaging the Nation to Fight for Our Right to Control Entry) Act , a bill which I believe would address many of the problems we face today. You can view the text of the bill and other important information about my views on immigration at my website: http://inhofe.senate.gov . In summary, t he ENFORCE Act:

Establishes the National Border Neighborhood Watch (NBNW) Program, allowing retired law enforcement officers to assist Border Patrol agents by reporting illegal border crossings.

Makes unlawful presence in the United States a felony.

Establishes an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in Tulsa .

Authorizes funding for online immigration training for state and local law enforcement officers.

Eliminates the practice of granting automatic U.S. citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants in an effort to reduce "anchor babies."

Establishes an independent verification system for Social Security numbers; mandates that an immigrant's Social Security number expires when a person's visa runs out.

Establishes electronic birth & death registries to fight fraudulent Social Security cards

Helps reduce Individual Taxpayer Identification Number abuse.

Empowers state & local law enforcement to carryout immigration laws.

Establishes penalties for flagrant employer tax violations.

Makes it illegal to operate day laborer centers for illegal aliens and to give them unemployment assistance.

Eliminates in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens.

"

One more no vote here Kathy
The damage is done. The small chance we had in November is now gone. We will go down in defeat having put up a skirt chasing power hungry viagra popping clinton droid to face who, Clinton. Wow, what a great strategy. She or Obama will crush him.

We will only get power back when the entitlement tsunami hits shore and the liberals hands are drawn like iron to a magnet to the third rail of politics. Since they cannot cut benefits, their only choice will be to tax the rich. After the population sees just how low the definition of rich can go, they will not just be escorted to the door but kicked mightily on the backside on the way out. As things deteriorate, will we have an alternative plan or just less of the same thing? Or will the republican party be blamed.

We could still bail enough water to keep the ship afloat if the dems are held responsible and truly conservative free market candidates are elected. If the media convinces the sheep that conservatism and/or capitalism is the culprit, a distinct possibility for a population educated and indocrinated very successfully so far to look to government as their savior and profit as an evil word then, the end cometh for the republic.

I have faith the public can make the right choice eventually if a choice is available. The nomination of McCain signals that the left is right. They win. We just want to have war and otherwise do the same things you guys want. We don't really think the country is on the wrong path, it just needs a little tweak here and there. The hue and cry that you hear is the anguish of the heart and soul of the republican party being sold out to socialism. The virus that has taken over the democratic party has infected and mortally weakened the republican party. If we are escorted out the door, then the party dies and deservedly so. Don't fear. It can be reborn again when the time is right and the leader is right.

CinciKid - There is less than *NO* case
--
...for John McCain.

What you don't understand is that running this Keating Five unconstituionalist for president is going to tar and taint the Republican party for years - possibly decades - to come.

Especially if (by some miracle) the American people come paroxysmally to their senses, realize what utter evil dwells at the core of the gone-over-to-Satan Democrat Party, and reject Billary and/or Obama for the slick piles of snot we know they are.

If we conservatives "calm down" (McCain expects us to do this without drugs?), bend over, and act as if we *ENJOY* the prolonged sodomization a McCain presidential campaign represents, what the hell happens to our credibility when he "does a Dole" into defeat and we cn drop the "grin-and-bear-it" facade to start articulating conservative principles again?

Sorry, but you've got to think about the Republican Party the way manufacturers think of their brand names.

Are we going to let John McCain "New Coke" the GOP into "Socialist Lite" this year?

And if he *WINS* (like that could happen!), how the hell are the real Republicans in Congress going to be able to oppose the damage McCain will try to do to the nation at large?

A McCain presidency would set us up for a more gross and godawful degradation of the U.S. Constitution than anything that even Obama (by far the more explicitly socialist of the two remaining Democrat excuses for presidential candidates) could pull out of his cloaca.

"Id love to be remembered as a Goldwater Republican. But I dont pretend in any way to live up to the legacy of the man who literally changed the face of politics in America."

-- John McCain

Rush said at the very end of his Friday
comments to vote and support for the conservative local and state candidates to the House and Senate, as the last bastion against Tweedle Dee (Clinton) and Tweedle Dum (McCain).

Cheney
Dick Cheney finally broke cleanly from Bush on the issue of the DC gun ban before the SCOTUS. If only Dick weren't in such poor health he would have made a great GOP POTUS candidate.

The left has always made him out to be the puppeteer pulling GW's strings but that has never been the case. Bush has basically ignored him throughout his reign. There is no question that Cheney was never the 'compassionate conservative' (i.e. phony conservative) Bush has been. But he's always been a low profile team player.

The administration's Justice Dept. filed a brief that enraged the IRA in that it recommended the gun case be sent back to the appellate Court for further consideration. IOW, it supported DC's gun banning case more than the clear intent of the 1st amendment which is the individual's right to own guns for self defense wherever. It wanted to preserve the DC's (and other cities') right to regulate gun ownership to some extent.

Just before K.B. Hutchinson filed the brief on behalf of a majority of both Congressional Houses, Cheney had his name added as 'President of the Senate'. Dick feels strongly that the 2nd amendment clearly guarantees the individual's right to own firearms.

If only we'd have had Cheney for the last eight (or even four) years we might be contemplating the prospect of a much more conservative Bush in Jeb this time around. Instead, between the flawed GHWB and and the fouled GWB, Jeb may never get another elective post.

well put, Cincinnati Kid..
What some of these highly-intelligent thought-provoking geniuses don't seem to realize is that
McCain wasn't who we (Kathleen & I) wanted on the ticket. Personally I'd be (much) happier with Fred or even Mitt but we're past that. The time to rant and 'take action' was BEFORE McCain reached this point. Use the next four years to develop your 3rd party.. it's too late for this round. No vote this time is a vote for HRC or BHO. Its that simple.

"...in a year in which Republicans don't have a lot to offer the voting public in terms of new ideas..."

How about the Constitution?

Since the imperial reign of FDR, it's been sufficiently suppressed to qualify it as "new" if only the Republican Party succumb to the "Rockefeller" faction (the so-called "moderates") whom CinciKid and his ilk obviously suck up to.

"Let it [the Constitution] be taught in schools, seminaries and in colleges; let it be written in primers, in spelling books and in almanacs; let it be preached from the pulpit, proclaimed in legislative halls, enforced in courts of justice. SJ Doc Hahahahaha

Ms Parker, I am insulted
I am insulted by your equating me with the barbarians of Japan.

" Kamikaze Republicans -- those who say they'll never vote for John McCain because he isn't conservative enough -- may get what they deserve."

" Berserker Republicans -- those who say they'll never vote for John McCain because he isn't a conservative -- may get what nobody deserves."

Fixed that for you.

When did I say they would be better?
I believe Hillary will be worse. I believe she'll destroy the country faster. That's why I intend to vote for her. Destroy the country quickly with her rather than slowly with McCain.

Please explain to me: just where does McCain agree with me?

He opposed tax cuts.

He proposed McCain-Feingold.

He opposes fighting the war even as seriously as Bush has (and that ain't all that seriously...)

He called Alito "too conservative" and led the Gang of 14. So he opposes truly conservative judges.

He opposes sealing the border and getting the illegals on the other side of it. (that's a package deal; we were promised a sealed border before without ejecting the illegals. Not again.)

So... you Republicans keep pretending like there's one or two issues about which we disagree with McCain and on the rest he's okay.

No, on every major issue, he's as far away as the Democrats.

We aren't trying for perfect. We're trying for conservative about *something*.

let it go people
When are you conservative "purists" going get your heads out of your arses and come to terms with the fact that we have a 2 party system here in the good ole U.S. of A? As such, no one ever actually gets his "way" but the country does function pretty well because of that fact. You morons failed to read Mz Parker's well though out and presented argument that is just over for you. GET OVER IT PEOPLE! The alternative is more Ruth Bader Ginsburgs on the Supreme Court, chaos in the Middle East and socialized medicine for all! So get the rage out of your systems, lick your wounds and get ready to hold your noses and pull the "McCain" lever on election day!

Iris -
If the world had more of you Abortion WOULD be a real issue! Good for you!

McCain's own words
"I intend to nominate judges who have proven themselves worthy of our trust that they take as their sole responsibility the enforcement of laws made by the people’s elected representatives, judges of the character and quality of Justices Roberts and Alito, judges who can be relied upon to respect the values of the people whose rights, laws and property they are sworn to defend."

Why is this complicated? Allowing Hill or Obama to choose the next justices of the US is unthinkable.

Oh. What about McCain's promise to follow Bin Laden to the "gates of hell"?? I like that one too....

Lies
McCain has also said that Alito was too conservative. Which is the truth? Will he support strict constructionist judges, or is Alito too conservative?

I hope McCain follows Bin Laden to the gates of hell and proceeds him through.

The enemy isn't Bin Laden. It's Islam.

jdw
"McCain has also said that Alito was too conservative."

Hmmm. I think it was more like he thought Alito wore his conservatism on his sleeve too much for McCains liking. But the question is. Did he vote FOR or AGAINST him?

And who is LESS likely to appoint such a judge? McCain or our friends - the two lefties on the other side of the isle? It is that simple.
Even if McCain baulked, WE get to apply SOME pressure, as happened with Bush.

As for the war? Even their very victory, given their stated aim of pulling out at first opportunity would embolden our enemies. No brainer. And you hand them victory by opposing or not supporting McCain.

we've been here before..
Votes for Perot in '92 were cast as reaction to Bush 1; this led to 8 yrs of Bubba. Punishing the GOP in this way didn't work then and won't work now. Besides, there's too much at stake!
For all his warts, McCain is still better than the alternative.

Free speech
Those who say that McCain is wrong to have put forth a bill that stops the people who would give more money to the campaigns, are wrong. It is a bill that says: There is a limit to giving corrupt money, period. Those who say differently are basically members of the ACLU. Now that is a trip. Conservatives siding with the ACLU. Where do we go from here, Clinton for president. NOT! Obama for president. NOT! McCain for President. Yea that's right, sounds and feels good, doesn't it.
