Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Townhall.com was launched on the web in 1995 and rose to its position as the leading conservative news, opinion, and community website over the next decade. Conservative principles have not always won the day on Capitol Hill but Townhall and the conservative movement continues to grow and prepare for each new battle that comes along.

The 2008 election will certainly have the most hotly contested, most expensive primaries and general election in history. The issues at stake in this election are critical to preserving the American dream. Defeating terrorism abroad, defending the borders at home, resisting government-run health care, removing the barriers to job creation, and defending our families against the corrupting forces of our culture are all issues up for grabs in November.

With so much at stake, Townhall.com needed to step up and find new ways to keep our readers informed. We needed more than just another click on the website.

After being a just a website for the past thirteen years – surprise, surprise -- Townhall.com is now also a magazine.

If you’re like me, you’ve wondered why there wasn’t a magazine out there that is smart, informative, insightful, enjoyable to read – and conservative.

Well – the wait is over.

Thanks to Townhall readers who have supported Townhall.com over the years, the revolution in conservative media is taking a big leap in 2008 with the premiere of Townhall Magazine.

One hundred pages of cutting-edge design, in-depth reporting of the political and cultural scene, commentary from America’s favorite conservatives, exclusive interviews, unprecedented coverage of conservative talk radio, examinations of the important issues shaping our world, and plenty of wit, great photography, and jabs at our liberal friends and enemies are found inside Townhall Magazine.

Townhall.com has always been about bringing the myriad of voices together into one easy to read, one-stop shop on the Web and now we’re taking it one step further.

Whether it sits on your desk, on your coffee table, or even the little boys’ room, Townhall Magazine is a revolutionary idea in magazine publishing: a magazine that’s informative, insightful, entertaining, and conservative.

In an era of overwhelming information, a fast changing news cycle, and an increasing number of "citizen journalists," no magazine compounds it all into a comprehensive, cutting-edge publication like Townhall Magazine.

Townhall Magazine is here to keep you informed and inspire debate like no other publication. If you believe politics is a full contact sport and doesn’t have to be boring, Townhall Magazine is for you.

With contributors like Michelle Malkin, Michael Barone, Mary Katharine Ham, and Amanda Carpenter, along with powerful photography and trendsetting design, The Townhall Magazine editors connect the community of America's engaged conservatives through insightful reporting, informed commentary and in-depth information about blogs, talk radio, and television news.

Our March issue follows quickly on the heels our first two issues with several ground-breaking reports.

Amanda Carpenter analyzes the wild primary ride through January and February and which issues matter most to the anxious electorate and how that has shaped the 2008 political landscape.

Frank Gaffney looks at how the military has fought the war on terror plus weapons for the battles of the future.

We asked the question – Hybrid cars: Myth or Miracle?

Townhall Magazine talks to Dennis Miller about his unconventional hero, reality TV and why he won’t run for office.

And an exclusive look at how to put your money where your vote is – by betting on politicians.

Every issue of Townhall Magazine is jam packed with the latest on the political and cultural scene.

I can’t wait to hear what you think of it.

Yeah Steve,
And then maybe readers could actually meet some of us someday. If they're good. And take their bubble baths.

PS~ If Mr. Garthwaite sends the offer in the mail, I can respond using a check book, and not the Discover. You know why they call it "Discover," don't you? Because someone always finds out! So just mail me an offer and I will subscribe.

HEY JONATHAN
What happened to the weekly top ten post you used to do. It was always very popular and kept me from missing more than a few good articles. Bring it back bro!

There already is a magazine that...
is all the things that Mr.Garthwaite alluded to. It's name is Newsmax. The Weekly Standard is also an enjoyable conservative read. Anyway, good luck to you Mr. Garthwaite in your publishing endevour.

Dear Mr. Garthwaite
I'm a first-issue subscriber and enjoy the magazine. Suggestion: How about a larger section dealing with the Outstanding Posts Of The Month? (hint-hint!) Also; how about a monthy profile of Townhall bloghosts? Townhall is, after all, an online community. Now that there's a monthly magazine, let us "commune" together!

Seriously, though; there are many fine people on the Townhall site. While we should respect each other's privacy to the extent that all individuals would wish, many of us are naturally curious about the people we message with so often. Another suggestion: A voluntary state-by-state listing for frequent bloggers of the same locality. The idea of a state gathering has cropped up on occasion among our small horde of online Texans!

And what about a large scale annual Townhall convention? The Daily Kos does! I'm sure that Townhall people would provide a visible and far-friendlier conservative alternative to Kos' freak show antics. Young people, in particular, need to see the other side. They get precious little of that from college curricula and the pop culture. And there are an amazing number of good kids out there, despite all that. They need to see a far better vision for America than what they're getting. We can provide that.

Good luck and best wishes.

LL in La
Looks like TH dropped another post. Anyway, you might want to quote Roger Miller, not Williams for the above.

Always remember and never forget, "You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd" Sure wish I was King of the Road.

I miss the old timers with humor and satire. Looks like most of us have lost the ability to enjoy life.

LL in La
Yes, and I like Roger Williams on the piano for the quiet times late at night.

How long til Christmas?
The Townhall Magazine I received in the mail was fantastic. It captured the website I have grown to know and like, without being a repeat. It was quite a surprise--a real indulgence, worthy of the garden tub, with jets on, and tea, and chocolates, and a favorite concerto, &c.

If my better half had not put the kabosh on the credit cards, I would have subscribed immediately.

"Dang me, Dang me . . . "
"They oughta take a rope and hang me.
"Hang me from the highest tree
Woman would y'all weep for me . . . " --twisted lyrics adapted from Roger Willams 1960's.

I'm forced kickin' and screamin' to agree with lilly one rare time again! Agreeing with a Dem! Ugh! But paper has been giving way to digitals because you can respond immediately and have the chance to share thoughts almost instantly (even with lilly! :-)) And you don't have to clutter up the room or your desk. Seems a bit bassackwards, Jon, but for those without a 'puter I guess it'll be good for them.

Best of luck. Now if you give lilly a free subscription there is a chance that "D" might change to an "I" or an "R" in time . . . That would be a good thing!

O'Reilly, Ladies and Originality...
Thanks everyone for all your comments. I thought I'd respond quickly to a couple of the items mentioned above.

1. My apologies to the ladies. We are thrilled that you like the magazine so much and we encourage everyone to read Townhall Magazine whereever you are most comfortable.

2. Bill O'Reilly was part of our February cover because the cover story asked the question, "Who decides what is conservative?" There are a lot of individuals, groups, elected officials, pundits, websites, etc that claim to be the deciders. We put that question to the readers in our February issue.

3. 99.9% of Townhall Magazine is original. Each month we select one or two items from the web to carry over to the magazine but out of the 85 pages in the upcoming issue, 81 are original to the magazine.

4. More so than any other magazine of its kind, Townhall Magazine is about its readers too. Over a dozen pages inside Townhall magazine are devoted to our readers. Whether in the feature forum "Townhall on..." pages or "Blog On" or "Comments", we have a specific mission to include as much reader opinion as possible. Look for more in the future.

Thanks again everyone. Please continue to share your thoughts on the magazine. It's only three issues old. Your comments help shape this new adventure.

Bill O'Reilly, give me a break!
baseballdoc is absolutely correct. O'Reilly, regardless of how "he" identifies himself, is neither a Robert Taft Republican nor a Thomas Jefferson libertarian. He's nothing more than a rude, pompus jerk who likes to bully the guests on his show. If TownHall thinks publishing O'Reilly adds credence to an alleged conservative journal (of any type - print or on line)... TH is mistaken.

By the way, I'd love for O'Reilly to attempt to bully me around. I'd knock the schmuck on his keester in a New York minute!

New Magazine
I cannot imagine why you think there is no conservative magazine in print! I have read National Review for years and feel that it covers the subject very well. You are creating competition to them, which is extremely regrettable. Just what we do NOT need -

Virginia

Mr. Garthwaite
I'm waiting for you to put me on your payroll with the Parody of the Day....:) I'm already a published writer. See my blog for today's offering on John McCain.

BILL O'REILLY???

.....I got your magazine but I haven't read it because the first thing I saw was Bill O'Reilly's picture on the cover ...

.....I don't know what makes you think that someone who pals around with Geraldo Rivera, disses Michele Malkin, and calls Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter radical Right Wingers, is a conservative ...

.....O'Reilly says he is fair and balanced ...I don't see how one can balance Socialism with Capitalism, do you? ...O'Reilly is openly hostile to the Oil Companies because they make profits that he calls price gouging ...

.....If you want Conservative commentary get Glen Beck, Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh but don't give me O'Reilly .....COLOSSUS

LILLY

.....When I was young and in my prime I had a girlfriend who was so crazy about me that she said she would be willing to die for me ...

.....we broke up after I asked her to prove it ...hahahahaha .....COLOSSUS

LILLY

.....Today, courtesy of your hero, Bill Clinton, is "National Appreciation Day for Abortion Providers" ...are you going to celebrate? .....COLOSSUS

Question about CONTENT of new magazine
Will the magazine consist of, for the most part, articles that have already appeared on the website? The stingy part of me doesn't want to pay for what I can get for free on the website. The honest part of me realizes that there is no free lunch in the economic sense. Moreover, it would be nice to have a collection of really good articles to browse through several times. I also assume that you will have a number of features that appear ONLY in the magazine. Well, I've ordered my free issue. I'm sure I'll subscribe. Good luck. (Another post says something about getting rid of Weekly Standard. I think we should support all the organizations trying to promote conservative ideas.)

Welll...
....speaking for myself, I rather enjoy the written word. It isn't very convenient to read from your laptop while taking a bubble bath, you know.

Consider me sold on this, Mr. Garthwaite.

Re Townhall---or Any---Magazine
I enjoy townhall.com and (Democrat that I am) think it is absolutely one of the best-run websites. But at the same time I have been wondering lately (nothing to do with townhall.com) whether we are moving toward the demise of magazines and newspapers. A couple of things have put this in my mind.

First, I remember that during my childhood and youth in the 1940's and 1950's, people read magazines a lot more than they do now. News photos came to us weekly in LIFE. Women relied on LADIES HOME JOURNAL, COMPANION, and GOOD HOUSEKEEPING not only for articles and recipes but for fiction. Just about everybody read READER'S DIGEST. My folks subscribed to both COLLIERS'S and THE SATURDAY EVENING POST (articles, fiction). ESQUIRE was cutting-edge for articles and its racy cartoons (not racy by today's standards). Young girls read CALLING ALL GIRLS and SEVENTEEN. Brainy types read NEW YORKER, HARPER'S, ATLANTIC MONTHLY, SATURDAY REVIEW OF LITERATURE. TIME and NEWSWEEK brought news analysis. My point in listing such a catalog is that there were a lot of magazines around and people actually subscribed to them and read them. I don't think they do as much, now. I subscribe to a couple but mostly see them in doctors' waiting rooms, and my husband and I are both readers. My guess is that TV, more than anything, has murdered magazines. Who needs LIFE to see what's happening when we have CNN, FOX, MSNBC?

Second, we take two major daily newspapers, read both on a daily basis, and I am here to tell you that they are now 50% ads. Every day I question whether I want to pay to read full-page ads from Reverend Moon, some bank, and a company that sells $4000 handbags.

So far
I like! I have already dumped Weekly Standard.

Townhall Magazine
Mr. Garthwaite, I can hardly wait to read my first TH magazine.

I notice those LL's (Liberal Lefty's) set around waiting for Townhall.com columns to be posted so they can hop over to the comment section and bash all those mean, vile, lying columnists that write TH.com articles just to please TH.com readers, which the LL's label readers as being fundamentalist, Right Wing conservative, Christian flat earther's.

Goodness no, it's not just the good people that like to read TH.com. I believe most all left-wing liberals can hardly wait for Ann Coulter's TH.com column.

I'm already lol. Now the LL's will have to pay to read all the columns that are fit to print.

Mr. Garthwaite, in all seriousness, I say this magazine is a good idea. I liked TH.com better back when there were only a half dozen or so columns posted each day. There are so many now that my old tired eyes can't read them all. For me, a magazine is easier to read than the computer screen (I pray the print is not too small), and there will be plenty of time between issues to get all the articles read.

I know Townhall Magazine will be successful.

Bring on Charlie Reese...
Charlie Reese, the retired reporter from the Orlando Sentinel, puts out a couple of articles each month. All of them excellent, that is if you happen to be a libertarian Thomas Jefferson or conservative Robert Taft type. Aaaa, isn't that what TownHall is supposed to be founded upon?

So, please, bring on Charlie Reese... both on line and also in the new magazine.

Congratulations Are In Order
Way to go, it's about time-keep up the good work.

Sexist
Why didn't you include the little girls' room?
Actually, I did subscribe, and so far have not been disappointed. I prefer the monthly vs weekly format.

Jonothan...
...the magazine you sent me was fine, but what will be the subscription price in the future?

And by the way,I wish you had put more effort in designing an easier way to get around your site.I can't speak for others, but my initial criticism of your new site still holds for me:"It's too busy".Too much stuff on it and the pages I am interrested in (the columns and the comments together),is the second click of an article. Why don't you simply have one column and those who do not wish to read comments, don't have to.

Truthfully,I enjoyed your old site better than this one, with my limited knowledge of computers.

Would rather...
See more to the website such as forums and the articles the mag is supposed to have.

Also this comment really was a slap in the face to other conservative mags which is a huge turn off...

"If you’re like me, you’ve wondered why there wasn’t a magazine out there that is smart, informative, insightful, enjoyable to read – and conservative."

Aside from all that, good luck with the new launch.

Drama Queen Anne of Townhall?
Yep, there she goes again...sucking up to the establishment...I still don't think she will get that promotion at Townhall.com though.

In fact, I don't think she will ever make the cover of the New Townhall.com magazine either.

Time to REIGN in those moments of rule in the Kingdom. LOL

Jonathan: Excellent! Can hardley wait.
