Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

The Nobel Peace Prize has renewed prestige in my book. No, not because Barack Obama won it for accomplishments to be determined later. It's got new luster because Shirin Ebadi has, at great personal risk, effectively come out for regime change in her native Iran.

Going Rogue by Sarah Palin FREE

Ebadi, who won the Peace Prize six years ago (under the old rules whereby recipients were expected to do something to earn the prize before receiving it), is Iran's premier human rights lawyer. In an interview with the editors of the Washington Post, Ebadi "suggested that the nature of Iran's regime is more crucial to U.S. security than any specific deals on nuclear energy."

Her point is precisely the same point made by so-called neoconservatives for years. The problem with Iran is its regime; its nuclear program is merely a symptom of that problem.

Do you lay awake at night worrying about Britain's nuclear weapons? France's? Israel's? Of course not, because stable democracies in general, and stable democratic allies in particular, aren't a threat.

If your neighbor is an upright and responsible citizen, who cares if he has a gun? If your neighbor is a complete whackjob and criminal, you sure as Shinola care if he has a gun. Armed neighbors aren't a problem, dangerous ones are. The same logic applies to nations.

"Imagine if the government actually promised to stop its nuclear program tomorrow," Ebadi told the Post. "Would you trust this government not to start another secret nuclear program somewhere else?"

It's a profound and fundamental point. We've gotten many such promises from the North Koreans. They are worthless. Promises from oppressive regimes cannot be trusted any more than promises from Tony Soprano could be. If a government is willing to betray its own people on a daily basis, what makes anyone think that it won't betray its geopolitical adversaries? Continued...

On the nail--actual conservatives (whether of Eden, Manning or Coolidge stripe) basically consider neocons as groats hamming as conservatives.

Sympathy For Iranian Generals
Happy Day Are Here Again...

Iranian big shots get a nice taste of their own medicine. US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan should celebate Iranian casualties.

Somewhat unusual for the area, there was no immediate claim of responsibility from any group of nut-jobs for blowing the Iranian big shots right out of their hides, but the region in Iran's southeast has been the focus of violent attacks on Tehran's boys by nut-jobs from a group of suicidal nut-jobs called the Jundallah, or Soldiers of God.

What God had to say about their antics was not immediatly known, but He seemed willing to let any number of the Jundallah or other violent groups blow themselves to smithereens - which is said to be God's way of showing He has a great sense of humor.

The Jundallah accuses Iran's Shiite-dominated government of persecution of the Sunni minority and has carried out attacks against the Revolutionary Guard and Shiite targets in the southeast part of Iran for some time now and plans to continue as long as they can convince their ethnic morons to blow themselves up on command.

The Jundallah suicide campaign is one of several other ethnic and religious small-scale insurgencies in Iran that have fueled sporadic and sometimes deadly attacks in recent years — though none have amounted to a serious threat to the ayatollahs who control Iran's government.

What Satan himself had to say about the attacks war also not known, but a Satanic spokesperson in Tehran said that the boss was very happy to see so many recruits coming his way.

"The global arrogance, with the provocation of its local mercenaries, targeted the meeting of the Revolutionary Guard and some local tribal leaders," said a Revolutionary Guard statement read out on state TV.

Iranian officials are quite sure that Washington is trying to incite members of Iran's many ethnic and religious minorities against the Shiite-led government, which is dominated by ethnic Persian ayatollahs..
