Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Huzzah! Thanks to a few pointed questions from the press corps at a White House news conference, the long Obama captivity of the media is at an end. The Hotline, an inside-the-Beltway tip sheet, proclaimed June 23 "The Day the Love Ended."

The New York Daily News' Michael Goodwin celebrates the press corps' ability to channel the mood of the country: "By peppering the President with forceful questions ... and by challenging some of his slippery answers, reporters captured the changing tone in the country. Like the end of a real honeymoon, blind infatuation is giving way to a more accurate view of reality."

"The press corps gets it," Goodwin writes. "For Obama, the hard part begins now."

Swamis and carnival contortionists who can fit their bodies into a Happy Meal box could learn something from the press about flexibility, given its ability to effortlessly pat its own back.

Silly me, I thought the main job of the press was to challenge slippery answers and ask tough questions, not to do that only when it helps "capture a tone."

But what truly confuses is how a few tough questions make up for months of forehead-scraping obeisance to The One. Suddenly these half-dozen reporters are media redeemers? "They Asked Tough Questions for Our Sins."

Indeed, shouldn't this be a moment for reflection on how bad the press has been until now? Instead of "The Honeymoon Is Over," why isn't the headline, "Handful of Reporters Make Colleagues Look Like Chumps"?

A week ago, CNN, the Washington Post and other major news outlets covered Obama's killing of a fly as if it was a major news event. (At least when the Russian press similarly gushes over Vladimir Putin, he's karate-chopping cinderblocks in half.)

The good news: More photo-ops are coming, because the White House apparently has a major fly problem. I know that because I read the New York Times' flood-the-zone coverage.

As Kool Aid-allergic columnist Robert Samuelson has noted, such sycophancy is a serious public-policy problem because the president is proposing a radical overhaul of pretty much everything, and for the most part the press hasn't cared that his explanations are iffier than gas-station sushi, his assurances more dubious than a North Korean press release. Obama's ongoing promise that he's "creating or saving" jobs is as plausible as the chess team captain's claim that his supermodel girlfriend can't fly down from Canada for the prom.

Maybe the fly infestation at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has something to do with the fact that the White House is a central hub of bovine manure distribution?

I can't remember: Was it Shirley Temple or Keyser Soze who said the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn't exist? It doesn't matter. But I do think of that line whenever I hear liberals claim the press isn't biased.

For instance, Dan Rather famously insisted media bias was a "myth," even after he paid blind Bulgarian orthodontists to officially verify those blockbuster National Guard memos written in fingerpaint. OK, that's not exactly how it went down. But as Dan might say, my version is fake but accurate.

Of course, the deniers never convinced anyone. Poll after poll reveals that four out of five dentists agree the press tilts to the left, if by "four out of five dentists" you mean the majority of Americans, and by "tilts" you mean leans leftward like a one-legged ensign on the U.S.S. Enterprise after the port nacelle has been blown to bits by Klingons.

But denial still has its advantages. It allows concubines to say they're merely highly compensated conversationalists. For the press, it allows them to act on their own prejudices and call it "news judgment." Alas, were it not for the fact that Oprah already has a magazine called "O," this same news judgment would have resulted in Newsweek changing its name to better reflect its status as the official tribute album of the Obama years (long may He reign). Subscribe now and get your free plate from the Franklin Mint.

Denial doesn't need much to sustain itself. A little convenient corroboration goes a long way. A dieter drops a few pounds and then feels justified in eating a dumpster load of Cheetos. The press has a nice moment, suddenly all is forgiven and forgotten and they go back on their merry way.

If the honeymoon ended Tuesday, the vows were renewed Wednesday when ABC News staged an infomerical on socialized medicine from the White House. ABC was tough, though. It opted not to hand out commemorative plates.

If the media makes you....
the media can break you.

Thanks to the media, we have a real loser in the White House who is destroying our country.
They should never be trusted again.

We don't need leaders
WE NEED LIBERTY!

Government has metastasized into a lethal cancer with but one cure. Cut it off, then kill it.

Sadly, the 'adversarial press' has been a joke in this country since the butcher of Springfield illegally shut down news outlets not friendly to his big government message of "union at all costs."

After that mass murdering psychopath and corrupt corporate attorney from Illinois shut down 300+ news outlets, jailed reporters & editors without a writ of habeas corpus, and destroyed the presses....Well, the rest of the media got on board with the big government program.

Since then, the "paper of record" has been little more than a house organ for the gang of criminals occupying those monuments to the grandeur of the state. These liars, thieves and murderers have claimed a monopoly on violating the separate States, and their citizens..."without so much as the common courtesy of a reach-around."

I wonder
With the ever-growing popularity of cable news outlets and cable programming, how many viewers did ABC pull away from MASH reruns and the like?

Sycophancy is Constitutional
Roll together the functions of ceremonial head of state, chief exec of the government and commander in chief in war (and we have wars all the time these days) and of course the media will grovel, star-struck, at the foot of this absolutist king.

Separate those duties as most sensible countries do, be they monarchy or republic, and it's way different.

Take Great Britain. The Queen endures criticism and praise alike silently-- she's above it. The Prime Minister, a political animal, is endlessly assaulted, both by Britain's scurrilous press (they have far more choice and competition than we do) and once a week in the bear garden of "Prime Minister's Questions" in the House of Commons, when anyone can grill him about anything.

Here, Congress gushes and sits silent when POTUS deigns to call in. More often, he's hitting homers from a press pack terrified of losing contacts if it's rude to him and his.

Our Founders intended the president to be the chairman of the board in a federal nation where most government was at state and local level-- not a "Great I Am" pretending he can do it all. The rot set in with the dictator Abraham Lincoln, who broke the old Constitution and trashed the Bill of Rights. The last modest prez was Calvin Coolidge, who spoke only when he had something worth saying.

FREEDOM
STOP ROLLING DOWNHILL LIKE A SNOWBALL HEADED FOR HELL,STAND UP FOR THE FLAG AND LETS ALL RING THE LIBERTY BELL. Thanks Merle

Doomsday scenerios.
Not a day goes by without someone predicting the end of the United States of America.I have been listening to(and probably making some)of these predictions for the past 74 years, and yet,we are still here. The oldest unchanged form of government in the world. What's a doomsayer to do?Oh yeah, lets blame in on Abe Lincoln! That'll work!

Meanwhile, who do you like for the Superbowl next year?

Waiting for the Media's Confession
Gov. Sanford betrayed his wife and his state and himself while the U.S. media pundits are betraying their ethics, their profession and their country. I'm reminded of the journalist who, during the Clinton Administration, yearned to duplicate Monica's act.

At least Republicans and conservatives have standards while liberals merrily discarded them years ago as witness their adulation for Ted Kennedy, JFK, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, and, of course, the biggest impostor of them all, Barack Hussein Obama.

Power is an aphrodisiac both for the possessor and possessed. Power and sex go together like a horse and carriage or, perhaps, love and marriage.

We conservatives are all waiting, hopefully, for the media wh*res' "Don't cry for me, Argentina" moment.

Antoine/Keep the Change
Antoine:
Your formula only seems to apply when the White House is occupied by a democrat. If there was any "star-struck grovelling" by the press at the feet of Bush or Reagan, it must have been so subtle as to have escaped my notice.

Keep the Change:
Better yet, which delusional leftist (a redundancy if ever there was one) will show up claiming the media has a conservative bias?

HOPE and CHANGE were just transposed.
When Barry was campaigning with the mantra HOPE and CHANGE...,what he REALLY meant was CHANGE and HOPE.

His goal was to change EVERYTHING about this nation and HOPE that Americans did not notice until it was too late.

Holy crap!
Jonah went through an entire column without mentioning Israel once.

On another note, his Star Trek reference regarding the port nacelle of the Enterprise doesn't make any since. Why would a starship lean? It's in space.

Nam65-66
Well said sir.

The really sad thing is that the doomsayers aren't called to task when they are wrong.

ABC
Odd, but I didn't realize people still watched that network, until the broadcast from the White House. Missed that completely, as well.

Jason
Spelling "since" doesn't make much sense either.

That's it?
A few tepid questions from two reporters? Yeah, that's a sea change in attitude. Not. I actually watched the Obamessiah's Health Huckster Show; it was The One fielding roses and cotton balls from planted stooges. USA Today noted the audience contained some supporters~ mere supporters in this case were anyone who could address The One without swooning. This did not include the press, of course.

Wow.
One typo and you're on my back. Get a grip lady. What are you, the Spelling Nazi?

The Duplicity of the Media
It is so obvious that the MSM is biased toward Obama and his agenda that for them to try to deny it, or claim that it's over is absolutely ludicrous. For 8 years, nearly every day the MSM bashed Bush and his agenda on a continuous schedule. Now that the person occupying the WH is on the same page as them, it's all love all the time. In the meantime Obama and Congress are about to fleece the public for more money than every swindler in the last 10 centuries combined, and the MSM can't be bothered to report the facts in an un-biased, unvarnished fashion. Rather they fawn over his every word, whole-heartedly endore Cap and Tax, UHC and any other hare-brained scheme the crooks in DC come up with. Is it any wonder that people have left them in droves, trying to find fair coverage that will inform of the facts instead of the spin?

Jason
Two things. First I'm a man, second that's not a typo. It is clearly being unaware of correct spelling.

Reality
A cattle drive usually has a lead cow "not steer" with a bell on to lead the herd. A sheep farmer will have a goat with a bell on to lead the sheep. This goat is a lot smarter than the sheep. The goat is commonly called a Judas Goat. We now have our judas goat in the white house. Any way he leads, the press and most of the public will follow willingly.

We need to get a few bells of our own. That will help stop the congress from blindly following the Chicago community organizer to the slaughter house.

Chess Teams Rule
“Obama's ongoing promise that he's "creating or saving" jobs is as plausible as the chess team captain's claim that his supermodel girlfriend can't fly down from Canada for the prom.”

Hey now, I swear she was going to be there but she was busy doing a shoot for the cover of the swimsuit edition of SI, so there.

Good reporting
on reporters. The White House steno pool hasn't become journalists. This is just a lovers tiff. They will not regain credibility with me until they acknowledge and apologize for their failure to report objectively on Obama during the campaign.

All the great people of our fifty states
deserve better than the legislative branch we currently have. Politicians should be changed as frequently as diapers and for the same reasons.
Wish I could remember who to credit for that gem.
I've been fortunate to live in four of the states where some of the posters are and the people are wonderful. Pity that our representatives seem to forget that simple fact.

50 States Janelle?
I agree with everything you write, but shouldn't that be fifty seven states?

The Hive
Bravo to Jonah Goldberg. The state-run media deserves constant ridicule. A well-known conservative (whose name escapes me at the moment) once described the left-wing communications complex as 'the Hive'. One bee imparts to the collective a bit of information and the mindless swarm begins. The hack purveyors of public information formerly called themselves 'reporters'. Now they have adopted the more vague and psychologically satisfying term 'journalists' to describe their vocation. I believe that they became 'journalists' when they stopped reporting and started advocating, when they stopped describing events and began trying to change events. Unfortunately,(and your average 'journalist' isn't smart enough to understand this) when they discarded the anachronistic concept of objectivity, they also discarded their individualism and became part of the Hive. They became the opposite of reporters - they became 'repeaters'.

I'm still waiting for...
a journalist who realizes he or she could have an "All The President's Men" moment. This regime is rife with potential. Why they settle for lapdog status instead of pitbull status is beyond my comprehension.

Excellent.
Clever and Spot on. Those reporters sure were tough on Obama. Too bad the tough questions came from FOX.

13-Bravo
I think those missing states are like socks. I buy them in pairs and one or more just disappear. It's my problem to replace them, not anyone else.

Janelle
Are you saying that we lost seven states? Has anyone alerted Obama and the legislature? The loss in tax revenues alone should be of great concern to the liberals. Without those revenues how can we pay for socialized medicine and the next three bailouts? Won't someone think of the children?!?

13-Bravo
We need to get our elected representatives on this immediately. They don't write the bills or read them. Perhaps they could find our missing socks, states, adjust our mandated low-flow toilets and hold a global warming conference in a city that didn't get snowed in.
And will someone please explain to me why we are spending our tax dollars to fund planting trees to combat global warming overseas and we couldn't do that here?
I did buy more socks.

Americans---Who are they??
The term is used so loosely these days and no one gives it a second thought!
When they say "Americans" are they talking about everyone that happens to be here in The United States?
Are they refering to all the Aliens "legal here on Visas" and "Illegals" that broke the law sneaked across our borders as "Americans"?

The majority of Aliens that come to the United States are coming for one purpose, to get their share of the freebies dooled out to all Aliens
"Legal or Illegal" by the U.S. Government!

These people pledge no alligence to America and can care less about our "Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independance" etc.
They contribute nothing, and reap the rewards!

Obama tells us there are 47 million Americans with out health insurance, that is an outright lie but many people believe this to be true because Obama and leberal Democrats say so!
They want to push Government health insurance down our throats so he can give free medical health care to all the "Illegal Aliens along with Obama's Amnisty program!

The 47 million includes 30 million Illegal Aliens and and millions of younger people that can afford health insurance but choose to spend their money on the luxurious things in life.

----------Who are these "AMERICANS"?????--------

you're all wrong on number of states
The One stated it clearly: he had been to 57 states; he had one or two still to go; and his staff would not let him go to Hawaii.

There must, therefore, be 60 of them. The Prophet has spoken.

And Jason, a starship appears to lean because it's in a studio, and actually, it's the camera that leans.

The Press vs. The Obama aura
Which is going to go first; the Press believing that they are important to the average non-reading American who can't handle more than a 15 second sound bite or the Obama aura? If it were not so sad, it would be laughable.

The Hive
Reading IndyJohn's mention of the Hive, I think it's important to remember where the produce of their efforts comes from.

The MSM Liars-telling the truth now?
Sheesh!! Another MSM Lie!! I don't see it- not for a minute.

Indy John there is something called the HIVE MIND. I think that might be the premise on which The Borg was built in Star Trek. In fact the press, the president and the congress really work now just as insidiously and relentlessly as The Borg. Haven't we all heard their stealth whispers of "resistance is futile" and their endless polls announcing that WE LOVE THE BORG??

Yessiree, what we have got here, my fellow Americans, is a gosh-darn Hive Mind. Now ain't that a purty sight!I And I think I might know why the White House has a fly infestation--the heat was turned way up because Captain Obumbles liked it warm in there!!

Great way to incubate fly larvae or is God sending another plague upon Pharaoh? Tickles me silly to think of Obumbles and Rahm being accosted by all those pesky flies. Have they ordered mosquito netting yet? LOLOLOLOOLOL!!

You MUST Check this OUT!
This is one of the coolest sites out there and the content is fabulous! Read the last blog and you are HOOKED. http://theblacksphere.net/site/the-blog/ A MUST READ!

You Skeptic!
What? You don't think the press has finally seen the light.I'm shocked! Just shocked! But you have to admit, they do have good hair, no brains, no spine, no character, no credibility, no integrity, but good hair.

CNN LOVES BARRY,
JACK CAFFERTY IS A FULL TIME CHEERLEADER FOR BARRY!LOL!

Honeymoon
Well I doubt the honeymoon is over. There might be a handful of questions that have a tiny bit of challenging substance, but that's only to counteract the bias. But if the public clearly analyzes Obama's restructuring of America and sees it for what a takeover it is, they might continue to stand up with conservative pundits. Then when it is certain that Obama is no longer the rock-star he thinks he is, the left-press will slowly slither to left of center (instead of now's left of left) and start writing that they were there all along. Slime slithering on the way to bankruptcy...but IF Obama'd only bail THEM out, all would be good on the left of left again.

American Thinker
Article that Rush read by American woman from Africa about The Lord Obama's colonial mind set is worth praise and commendation. Clear, concise and knowlegable, The lady is a God sent.

Fly infestation
Jonah - I love this line - "Maybe the fly infestation at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has something to do with the fact that the White House is a central hub of bovine manure distribution?" Very tactful way of telling it like it is!

Media Carnival
Tonight we tuned in to ABC Evening News only to hear Charles Gibbs say "Tonight we will be devoting most of our program to Michael Jackson." Hello? Iran is still simmering, the House is still voting on Cap & Trade, Sanford is still dithering, and the evening news will be devoted to a pop singer? So we changed the channel to NBC, then to CNN, then to FOX, then to MSNBC. Everywhere, Michael Jackson. Never mind ideology---what's wrong with the media is that they're trying to be American Idol and not conveying serious news about political, civic, and social issues.

But then I look on townhall and see why---how many times a post to TH has complained that a speech is "too preachy", that a book is "hard to get into", that the world has been taken over by boring "elites". You folks demand that life be a fun carnival, and the media are responding to you.

To Rock Strongo
The press "groveling at the feet of" GW Bush may well have escaped your notice---I would guess that a lot escapes your notice---but reams have been written on the subject, and entire TV specials have been produced on the same. The issue was, specifically, why the MSM didn't challenge Bush more briskly about what he presented as the "necessity" for going to war in Iraq.

Mr. Goldberg:
The media universe has fractured into a thousand pieces. Instead of every news outlet trying to provide unbiased and comprehensive coverage, now everyone tries to narrowcast to a specific audience. Fox News cators to conservatives and they try damn hard to please them with news that matches their views. Ditto for MSNBC and liberals. The same with newspapers, websites, and books. Everyone is trying to find a specific audience and then hang on to it.

This was inevitable due to new technology and more bandwidth. There is no conspiracy and there is no MSM.

Insteady, there are a thousand different places to get your news and entertainment.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Lilly (AKA Lilith), you are just too funny! "The press 'groveling at the feet of' GW Bush may well have escaped your notice..."

I guess in your book, the press not a howling mob with torches and pitchforks screaming for a bloody lynching would be groveling. But then you've never been grounded in reality.

i

The End May Not be In Sight for Grovelin

I wish I could remember which commentator said the questions - even the serious ones were a plant to convince everyone Obama wasn't a put-up job. That the love affair was not over.

Majors did ask an honest question and there was one other, but it is said that in the back room the love affair laughed and went right on.

I wasn't there, but most of the questions were soft-balls with one or two faked, except for Majors and the one other real question.

Obama is a schemer. he's got it all planned out - how to beat down the country.

He is no America lover.

The media?
A great term meaning the distribution system of nonsense. Facts are hard to come by but the media continues to say anything they want, but there are few if any facts in what they say. The use of words such as; could, should, may well, experts say, and sources say, are reported as facts. Nothing can be further from the ruth. So, given as truth, all you have is nonsense. The media fails us all everyday because they are out for themselves and not for us. The first ammendment is a check on government but with Obama as their man, the press is not checking on him at all. The press "checks" on those who criticize the President and challenge him on the looney policies that have always failed in the past. The media should stay on task. Check on the government always. You have no other more valued purspose.

Watch the endless line of Obama ...
press conferences start to come to an end...if the media actually starts asking Obama the hard questions.

The Fourth Estate is DEAD
DEAD dead AND BRAIN dead! They are the HAPPY DAPPY enablers of what is happening to this country!

Robert CA.- You are dead wrong about FOX. FOX is not perfect. But it is the ONLY media source since Sept. 11, 2001 that had the cajones to do fair and honest journalism. Your post shows that you just do not watch Fox that often. It also shows that you have bought the liberal hype about FOX.

Biased?
"The press "groveling at the feet of" GW Bush ...reams have been written on the subject, and entire TV specials have been produced on the same."

"reams have been written on the subject, and entire TV specials have been produced on the same."

Lilly,
"and entire TV specials have been produced on the same."

Obama and his crew are going to make the Jimmy Carter years seem like the good old days.... They are getting thier hooks into every part of the economy.

Endless Love
I quit watching ABC, NBC, CBS years ago. The last time I watched was in an airport - I think it was CNN. Obama made the statement that "he wanted to remake America" and the reporter didn't ask, "into WHAT?" That was the end for me.

I remember another instance when Cokie Roberts had been on Air Force One with Bill Clinton, and on the show This Week she kept gushing about how "Bill did this" and "Bill did that." My only thought at the time was, how sick! She's a reporter; not a teenager with an infatuation! But, I was wrong and now I see the exact same thing with reporters and Obama, only this time it includes all of the men! They don't have a clue as to what their job is and how to do it. They are only getting a paycheck - so why try to win a "Pulitzer Prize?"

I guess the reporters missed all of those critical thinking and logic courses and opted out for "Sexuality in Women and Men," and "Pan-African studies;" you get my point!
