The EPA Is Choking Democracy

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

One of the most important events of our lifetimes may have just transpired. A federal agency has decided that it has the power to regulate everything, including the air you breathe.

Nominally, the Environmental Protection Agency's announcement last Friday only applies to new-car emissions. But pretty much everyone agrees that the ruling opens the door to regulating, well, everything.

According to the EPA, greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide -- the gas you exhale -- as well as methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride. It is literally impossible to imagine a significant economic or human activity that does not involve the production of one of these gases. Don't think just of the gas and electricity bills. Cow flatulence is a serious concern of the EPA's already. What next? Perhaps an EPA mandarin will pick up a copy of "The Greenpeace Guide to Environmentally Friendly Sex" and go after the root causes of global warming.

Whether or not global warming is a crisis that warrants immediate, drastic action (I don't think it does), and whether or not such wholesale measures would be an economic calamity (they would be), the EPA's decision should be disturbing to people who believe in democratic, constitutional government.

Two years ago, the Supreme Court -- the least democratic branch of our formal government -- decided in Massachusetts v. EPA that the agency could regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. With this judicial green light, the EPA has launched its power grab over all that burns, breathes, burps, flies, drives and passes gas.

Yes, the head of the EPA reports to the president, which gives some patina of democratic accountability. Except the EPA is supposed to be politically autonomous, doing what it thinks best according to what President Obama calls "sound science." So the government bureaucracy is on its way to strong-arming the economy in ways Congress never imagined when it passed the Clean Air Act in 1970. Or the president has suddenly gained sweeping new powers over American life, in ways never imagined by Congress or the founders, and despite the fact that these new powers were never put before the voters.

This is not a sudden development. Vast swaths of the state have been on autopilot for years, effectively immune to democratic influence. The Federal Reserve, particularly of late, has been acting like the fourth branch of government. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, without congressional, presidential or court approval, has been committing trillions of dollars to fix the financial crisis. That may be warranted; only time will tell. But there's still something troubling about an institution so immune to democratic control.

In 2002, Congress created the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. It covers its expenses by taxing all publicly traded corporations. It alone determines the amount to tax, without approval of the White House or, more important, Congress, which, according to the Constitution, has the sole authority to levy taxes: "All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives" (Article 1, Section 7). In 1999, the Federal Communications Commission raised the so-called Gore tax on long-distance phone calls by 73 percent without seeking congressional approval. Lord knows what the EPA could collect by extorting "climate criminals."

In fairness, the Obama administration and congressional Democrats reportedly don't want to cede authority to the EPA. Rather, they want to use the threat of an EPA takeover -- and its presumably draconian impositions on business -- to force reluctant moderate Democratic and Republican members of Congress to sign on to the president's cap-and-trade scheme (itself an enormous energy tax).

California's Barbara Boxer, who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, has said as much: "EPA, through its scientists, has given us a warning that global warming pollution is a clear, present and future danger to America's families. If Congress does not act to pass legislation, then I will call on the EPA to take all steps authorized by law to protect our families."

Translation: Either you vote our way or we'll render voting meaningless.

Other Democrats are delighted by the EPA decision because it allows them to have their preferred policy -- carbon regulation -- without actually having to vote for it.

Either way, it doesn't sound like these folks take their oaths of office very seriously.

Oh
if they get their way on this everyone's standard of living is going way down. And don't be surprised by meat rationing either by government fiat or raising the prices so only the elite can eat meat (like that 100 dollar a pound the Obama's are so fond of).

And as we all exhale wait for them to limit the number of children we can have like China.

It's getting scary out there be prepared for green reeducation camps because they are coming for all of us on multiple fronts.

It is cow farts man, don't u understand
The power of little goofy bureaucrats is scary.

Jonah, there's more on the way
On this “Earth Day” it is shocking to see just how radically Obama and company is pursuing the mandates of Agenda 21, the UN protocol signed onto by the US at the Earth Summit in Rio, 1992.

In 1993, Clinton by Exec. Order established the President's Council for Sustainable Development, and Al Gore took the ball and ran with it. He wrote the bible – Earth in the Balance - on changes the US would have to make to satisfy the US’s promise to lead the world in fulfilling the mandates of the UN’s protocols for “restoring the earth.“

A reading of Gore’s book connects with EPA regulations past and present.
He was not being original, but calling for changes that would require severe regulatory actions and limitations on personal rights, property rights, to satisfy demands of Agenda 21.

Read McCaslin’s article of a couple days ago “Urbane Orders” – which stops short – but is on the right track. Put the pieces together. That is what this administration is doing. Pieces of the puzzle have been created over the last few decades, and now, using “climate change” as a cover and a blind since 1992, the next step the US needed to bring this radical future into being was a President with such popular appeal the people would accept anything unquestioned. A President who has no love for this country, and is willing to do anything to show he has power. "I won!"

Lulu - it is getting scary out there
What is the basis of Obama’s ideology on environmental issues? That is the question that begs an answer. Consider the ideas of people he has hired to advise him.

Robert Holdren is Obama’s special advisor on scientific issues. People hire those whose ideas suit them. So if/when Holdren advises the President to use ‘geoengineering’ to remedy global warming, will Obama concur?

Geoengineering has been going on for some years. Chemtrails in the sky, they finally admit, are experiments in “geoengineering.” They have been polluting the skies, and the earth, and the people while hiding in the lie that these were just normal vapor trails left by commercial planes using normal fuel.

I realized what a hoax that was by simple observation. Several planes in formation were criss-crossing and laying those trails that do not disperse, but just get bigger and fluffier until the sky is totally overcast. As I watched, one of the planes abruptly stopped putting out any trail at all, and I waited for the plane to fall out of the sky, since obviously its “normal fuel” supply was gone. Not so, the plane just continued on - to reload with more toxic pollution, I presume.

That experiment “proved” that blocking the sun caused cooling, but in some areas, it actually held heat underneath that fake cloud layer. Holdren’s suggestion is to send up tons and tons of soot and who knows what to mimic the granddaddy of all volcanoes and as this pollution drifts around the earth, it will presumably cool it.

Wonder what will happen to food crops? Don’t they need bright sunshine to do well? And if they don’t do well, won’t there be more carbon dioxide in the air since green plants love it and the real solution to the problem is more green. That is the mantra of the environmentalists, but they don’t really want it. What they do want is to limit the number of human beings on the earth.

Hype of the Presidential Election
We can forget the hysteria of having elected a BLACK PRESIDENT for in fact we have elected the first GREEN PRESIDENT. It's not going to be fun.

What about water vapor?
The EPA is clearly shirking its responsibilities when it omits the overwhelmingly dominant “greenhouse” gas from its control: water vapor. Instead, it declares an essential TRACE gas that life on the planet cannot do without to be a pollutant – which it demonstrably is not.

Haven’t checked the EPA’s charter legislation, but one would hope that it requires that its findings be based on facts, verifiable/reliable data, and scientific methods. If so, then it would be easy to demonstrate that its findings in this case were made in violation of its charter and, therefore, should be easily overturned in the courts on that basis.

Ummm...excuse me
"if they get their way on this..." IF they get their way?

It's way too late to start wishing on that star.

This is just a drop in the bucket compared to what the federal government has been doing since the early part of the 20th century.

I notice Goldberg is confused...
"Ben Bernanke, without congressional, presidential or court approval, has been committing trillions of dollars to fix the financial crisis. That may be warranted; only time will tell."

Personally, I don't really understand what most of you have been doing for the past 100 years but you sure haven't been studying your history or your government.

Now-all of a sudden-everyone's upset?

"Give us public schools!"
"Tax us !"
"Make us behave!"
"There ought to be a law!!"
"We can't do this on our own!"
"Tell us what is good and evil!"

America is getting exactly what the people have been begging for and demanding from their representatives:

FASCISM-Mussolini style.

I defy anyone to name one area of your life-just name one-that government, at any level; politicians, on either side of the aisle; and judges, do not believe they have the right, the power and the authority to interfere and regulate.

Just name one...and then tell me what you did or tried to do to stop it...besides tell people like me, "You're crazy!"

Happy Now ?

EnvironMENTALists . . .
base their "science" on popularity polls and "feel-good solutions" that they do not apply to themselves. If you want to see the corruption that exists in the "scientific community" just "follow the funding". The EPA and other unconstitutional and criminal out-of-control "federal agencies" pay (with our tax dollars) for "scientists" to come up with these phony results in order to further their communist (oops, I mean "progressive") agendas.
It is going to take several states to say NO and then back it up by booting out ALL "federal officials". Of course, the "feds" will not like it. Furthermore, the states should put all of their "federal tribute" (tax dollars normally paid by citizens directly to the "federal government") in escrow, only to be released when the Constitution is restored. This can be done by passing a state law that requires ALL tax receipts (federal withholding) to be submitted to the STATE. Hopefully, this will cause a groundswell that will be repeated over again with other states. Yes, the revolution is coming.

Undemocratic E.P.A.

The E.P.A.’s proposed regulations represent the gravest threat to our freedom and economy. It’s bad enough that we have a combined $53 trillion unfunded liability for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and more than $10 trillion in additional debt forecast for the next ten years (according to the CBO). Now the Obama administration and socialist “global warming” czarina Carol Browner, want to stick a dagger in the heart of the economy, which will further reduce our ability to fund this massive debt. These people are truly dangerous. Sadly, many people have bought into the global warming hype based on headlines, not science. For if they had the remotest connection to the data, they would know that current temperatures are roughly comparable to the 3,000-year average and are up less than a degree C since 1850, which marked the end of the Little Ice Age. For much of this popular ignorance, we can thank Al Gore and his junk documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," which is so loaded with lies, distortions, and misrepresentations that it can only appeal to those with a child-like mentality. There is, for example, no evidence of sea level rise more than that which has been fairly consistent since the end of the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago, i.e. about 4 inches per century. The IPCC predicted 17 inches, and Al Gore whopping 20 feet. That alone should convince any rational person that Gore is nuts. But five socialist politicians from Norway awarded him the Nobel Prize anyway, which tells you how meaningless that trophy has become.

Undemocratic E.P.A., part 2
Unlike temperature which is predicted by highly dubious climate models, sea level studies are based first on direct observation. By far, the leading expert in this field for the past 35 years is the Swedish geologist and physicist Nils-Axel Mörner, a past president of the INQUA International Commission on Sea Level Change.
Mörner reports that, despite fluctuations, sea level has not risen over the past 50 years, and that if it does rise in this century, the rise will not exceed 4 inches. Asked to be an expert reviewer of the IPCC report, he discovered that not one of the 22 authors was a sea level specialist. This is because they were chosen from those willing to toe the party line and to remain safely within the orbit of the U.N. and the grant-making agencies of their respective governments. This has corrupted the entire IPCC process. Only a fraction of the 2,500 scientists touted by the IPCC are real scientists, and even fewer are climate scientists. In addition, those who were involved in the IPCC process were never polled on the conclusions. So, the supposed "consensus" is really just a reflection of the views of the U.N. bureaucrats who get to write the summary. The whole enterprise is a farce and does a grave disservice to science.

Barack Obama, who has a unique skill to talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, takes the American people for idiots. Yet, he is the real fool. He proposes a $2 trillion budget deficit, then thinks he is appealing to the fiscally conservative by directing his minions to cut $100 million from the proposed budget. Similarly, he claims to be on the side of science, but his policies and appointments reflect his far-left ideology and the scientific literacy of a ten-year-old.

It’s time to flood the E.P.A. with comments rejecting these proposed regulations. We cannot let this undemocratic abomination stand.

TYPO ALERT

Should read "Moose with wind..."

Liberal Fascism
Thank you, Jonah, for this fine article and for writing "Liberalism Fascism," a book which exposes in meticulous detail the agenda of the left since the early 20th century. The Obama administration is nothing more than the current incarnation of these fascist/socialist ideas of control which have been around since the administrations of Woodrow Wilson and Mussolini.

The past 100 days should convince voters that "liberalism" (or "progressivism") is the antithesis of liberal. Yet these buffoons of the left, and in the MSM, pretend in all seriousness that they are champions of freedom. We know, of course, that while they champion the freedom of terrorists, criminals, and illegal aliens, they are totally hostile to the freedom of the American people whom they would gladly sweep under their all encompassing laws and regulations. Their hypocrisy is astounding.

This Column Needed Elsewhere!
It's such a shame that everyone reading this column is either already aware of this stunning yet hardly surprising development, involved personally in an IMMEDIATE, FINANCIAL way, or so STUPID as to just blindly believe in the theory that anthropogenic global warming is changing the climate in a way that cap and trade will fix.
I'm gonna e-mail it to as many folks as possible in the hope that it will educate someone.
Doubtful, but necessary.

The "cons." Sup. Ct. did this
by labeling CO2, the gas we need to convert the atmosphere to oxygen, is a pollutant.

The entire "enviro* movement is polluted with bad science, Romanticism from the 19th C., and plain stupidity.

FART TAX

EUREKA, I'm investing all of what's left of my savings in 'BEENO' stock.

Marathons must be banned.
Anyone know how much CO2 a person exhales: normally or running or jogging?
Calculate how much 25,000 marathoners generate during the race.
Obviously, we need to either tax or ban marathons.

Solution to the Problem
Environmentalists should mandatorily volunteer to breathe only on odd-numbered days. Three days go by - problem solved.

No shock
The only shocking thing here is the fact that many people are just realizing that the chief executive of the nation cannot control his branch of the government. All of the agencies you are talking about are executive agencies, nominally under the control of the president. But most presidents have ceded so much power to agnecy heads that they are the real powerbrokers, not the president. Look at the way Eric Holder made Obama stand down in his pledge not to prosecute Bush era lawyers for their papers and opinions on what constituted torture; on Sunday Obama, Emmanuel, and Gibbs were saying that was not going to be pursued and after Holder decided that he made policy at Justice, Obama goes out and backs off.

The problem with this is that none of these defacto presidents of their various agencies answer to the public, and most feel too powerful to answer to a mere president.

Dieters add to the problem
Paul,
That brings up a thought. An overweight person dieting to lose weight is adding to the problem. Afterall, fat burned is converted to CO2 and breathed out. So fat kids are saving the earth.
Art from Kennesaw

We have the solution in our hands...
It's simple--but not easy.
simply--we all write, fax, and phone ALL the Justices individually and collectively OFTEN. We demand that SCOTUS actually HEAR at least a few of the dozens of "natural-born citizen" lawsuits rather than just dismiss them without comment.
When they are forced to either prove or disprove BO's eligibility for the office of President--by the absolute standards of the Constitution which is their ONLY job--will find he is an imposter; and he and his cabinet, and all the bills he has signed into law--will be null and void!
We can hold a REAL election; and elect a President that will do what the majority of the People want with a Christian base, sound fiscal practices, and common sense.
Can we do this? Absolutely! WILL we? Time will tell!
Just contact SCOTUS!

A propos Earth Day . . .

The Antarctic ice cover is actually *GROWING* as a result of the hole in the ozone layer according to an article in today's (London) *DAILY TELEGRAPH*!

EPA - dangerous
Having read the book, "The Energy Non-crisis" By Lindsey Williams, Chaplain of the Alaska Pipeline, The environmentalists from both the Federal Government and the State of Alaska did all they possibly could to hinder the building of the Alaska Pipeline. Chapter 8:Charlie Brown tells the chaplain:'Well, sir as you know we are putting this haul road across the hillside, just outside of Happy Valley and we've been given permission by the government to build the road there we've gone through the proper channels. Well you will never believe it. There's a Falcon nest on top of that hill. These ecologist creeps want to insist that the falcons along the Sag River are on the extinct list and that they can't be disturb at any cost. One of the ecologist found them and told us we would have to stop the Job.Why can't we move the Falcon's nest across the mountain?
I will shorten it here. This guy had the power to stop hundreds of men and macinery, costing thousands of dollars to the pipeline.
It cost the Aleyska Pipe Line 2 million dollars to move the road and guess who paid it? that was added to a gallon of gas that you and I had to pay at the pump.
This is only one of many shenagins pulled just on the Pipeline.
I know we need to watch what we do, but each State could care for it's own. We don't need this dictatorial government agency to tell us what we can and can't do. The EPA needs abolishing!!!

Edamon50 - No shock
The only shocking thing here is the fact that many people are just realizing that the chief executive of the nation cannot control his branch of the government."

Is it shocking that Obama does not want to control his branc...? He is not there to do anything but to be a distraction and appease his adoring masses as long as possible. His role is to provide a smokescreen to obscure the atrocities "his branch" is perpetrating.

What if...?
What if the government finds out that I went to a Tea Party and decides to deny my application for a personal carbon dioxide emission permit?

THE EPA DUNCE'S
THESE FOOLS THINK THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE RULES THAT A FARMER DOING HIS JOB. MUST KEEP THE DUST HE IS STIRING UP ON HIS SIDE OF THE FENCE WHEN THE THE WIND IS BLOWING. IF THEY DO THIS I HOPE THOSE THAT THINK THIS IS A GOOD THING. ENJOY THEMSELVES AS THEY STARVE TO DEATH. THERE ISN'T A THING WE DO THAT DOESN'T STIR UP DUST.
THIS BUNCH OF BOODS IS OUT OF CONTROL!!!

It's no wonder that Texas
is talking about secession.

Fortunately, there is an alternative.
1. Vote the Democrats out of office.
2. Vote to reign in the EPA or (better) abolish the EPA along with several other useless agencies and departments.

Jonah
Go column. The idea that co2 is a pullutant is idotic. The stuff is as natural as sun shine. This is about control of the people in this nation. How you heat your house, drive, vacation, or all the things done with energy. They will regulate us to death. As the eco wackos believe humans are a parisite on the earth, this does not bother them.
Kirk

Oh Boy! Earth Day!
This year we're having whooping crane for supper to celebrate. Last year it was baby seal cutlets!
For entertainment, we're going to have readings from all the manifestos of doom issued thirty or forty years ago that have not come true. Then, in defiance of EPA mandates, we're all going to go outside and breathe heavily.

Obama the medieval tyrant?
I used to think Obama thought of himself as a medieval king, with us his serfs that are here to do his bidding, and have no minds of our own. His disgusting and demeaning remark about the "confidence gap" is a prime example.

Now he wants us to through progress aside and go back to the windmill. I find the irony bittersweet at best.

Happy B-day Vladimir Lenin!

Oh yeah, it's Earth Day too.

And to celebrate, The Liberals will impose crushing Crap-no-Trade policies, driving another 30 million industrial/manufacturing jobs overseas to China and India - Nations who will pay only lip service to reducing the carbon footprint hoax.

And... well, we all know what they plan to honor Vlady Lenin, eh?

An "Atheist Theocracy" anyone?

It is a Cult
It is an Earth Worshipping cult, it isn't a government agency. This is skirting the 1st Amendment.

And the left mocks Christians.

Carbon dioxide
Plant more trees, not tax the air we breath. Trees convert more Co2 to oxygen than grass, or crops. Yet you can see developers bulldoze large tracts of land clear of all trees, build housing tracts with big green lawns, and no trees. Then the home owner has to build a patio with sun shade to keep the sun off. What the hell happened to the shade tree? It is too much trouble for the designers to work around then.

There is a solution
The signature line of all the e-mails I send reads "Abolish the EPA". I recommend it.

Carbon Dioxide?
So when are they going to stop the US Forest Service from annually doing "controlled burns" of 100's of 1000's of acres of brush and trees to MAYBE prevent a future forest file -- generating more CO2 in a day than any major city creates in a week, and eliminating enough plants to clean at least a day's worth of CO2 from that same city every day it continues to grow?

EPA
EXTENDED ARM OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY!

ALMA
GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL

Government wants complete control
In 1976, delegation of the U.S. government signed the U.N. document "1976 Report of Habitat I: United Nations Conference on Human Settlements" which states: "Private land ownership is a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice. ... Public control of land use is therefore indispensable. ..."

This 1976 Report is 65 pages of specifics on how governments (federal, state, and local) can end private land ownership and secure absolute control of land use.

Land use policies by Congress and government agencies since that time have been designed to weaken private property rights and strengthen government control over all land uses. The Endangered Species Act is essentially to prevent land development on private property. The Clean Water Act is another ruse to prevent use of private land anywhere near a puddle of water. "Comprehensive planning" section of the 1976 document details strategies to empower government in restricting landowners’use of their own land.

And now, global warming is the excuse to exponentially expand government's power to control not only land use, but every aspect of our lives.

Stan - -Alma God is in control
YES He is! and He tells us to "occupy until I come." That means protecting the ground He has given us. It is sad to see how the enemy of our souls has deceived so many. People don't seem to value freedom anymore, they would rather be "kept" by the government nanny.

We keep trying to educate and hope something will inspire us all in our efforts to save the United States of America.

“Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.”
