Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

President Obama had a grand time in Europe. He wowed the press, met the queen, gave some wonderful news conferences and got virtually none of the major policy concessions he wanted. But he did do a lot of talking, for what that's worth.

And for Obama, that's worth a lot. During the campaign, then-Sen. Obama made it clear that he thought words meant a great deal. "Don't tell me words don't matter," Obama proclaimed. " 'I have a dream' -- just words? 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal' -- just words? 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself' -- just words? Just speeches?"

Give the man points for consistency. He has put rhetorical innovation on an equal footing with policy innovation. Exhibit A: "Overseas contingency operations." That's the Obama administration's term of choice to replace "the long war" or "the global war on terror." No doubt they were inspired by the famous Leo Tolstoy novel, "Overseas Contingency Operations and Cessation of Overseas Contingency Operations," later dumbed-down by the publisher to "War and Peace."

Janet Napolitano, head of Obama's Department of Homeland Security -- primarily created to deal with terrorist attacks in the wake of 9/11 -- has decided "terrorist attack" is too hard-edged. It's "man-caused disasters" now. "That is perhaps only a nuance," Napolitano explained to a German newsmagazine, "but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur."

Meanwhile, the White House has announced that prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will no longer be called "enemy combatants." No word yet on what the new term will be. No doubt the poetic euphony of "man-caused disasters" and "overseas contingency operations" sets a very high bar for Obama's Office of Euphemism Generation. But surely "Men Prone to Disaster Causation" or "Overseas Counter-Contingency Operators" are the most obvious choices. My friend Mark Steyn, however, suggests going another way: "Future Facebook Friends."

And that points to just one of the problems with the Obama administration's effort to use words to shape reality. It's morally tone-deaf. Maybe Napolitano is right about the need to bleed fear from our politics (a directive Obama didn't seem to have in mind when he suggested that failure to pass his budget would lead to catastrophe, er, man-caused disaster). But these phrases are morally meaningless. Public safety is an important government function, but, regardless of whether "war on terror" was the right term, it's surely wrong to use language better suited for a salmonella outbreak to describe a conflict with evil men who have American blood on their hands.

We've seen this before. Madeleine Albright, Bill Clinton's secretary of state, famously declared that countries such as North Korea would no longer be called "rogue nations" but instead "states of concern," which sounded an awful lot like various poses from a photo shoot with Dr. Phil. One can hope that the problems that came with the Clinton administration's lawyerly approach to terrorism won't be replayed by this administration. President Clinton was very good at vowing to hunt down our enemies after terrorist attacks, but when he left the podium, he was more interested in how his comments played in polls and focus groups than what we were doing to catch the bad guys.

So far it's hard to say definitively how Clintonite Obama's approach really is. His approach toward Iraq and Afghanistan is better than his critics on the right expected and worse than his fans on the left hoped. Indeed, despite the change in jargon, in the war formerly known as "the war on terror," Obama's policies are shockingly in sync with Bush's.

However his policies turn out, it's clear that Obama still puts a great amount of stock in the power of words -- his words. In particular he continues to have a candidate's relish for denigrating George W. Bush and a left-wing academic fondness for finding fault with America. In Europe last week, he pledged more "humility" and apologized for America's "arrogance."

Similarly, as befits a very symbolic president, his administration enjoys symbolic gestures. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton worked on the Russians before the Group of 20 summit by giving them a giant red button with the word "reset" on it (or that was the plan; they used the wrong word in Russian). In a meeting with the Russian president, Obama followed up by lamenting the "drift" in Russian-American relations. Putting aside the oddness of giving a big red button to an antagonistic country with a boatload of nuclear weapons, it's still an odd tack to take with the Russians. After all, whatever mistakes the Bush administration may have made, Russia was hardly the aggrieved party. America didn't make Russia invade Georgia, aid Iran or crush democracy. President Bush famously, and naively, saw Vladimir Putin's soul in the Russian leader's eyes. Obama's naiveté may rest in his own belief that his words amount to some kind of Jedi mind trick.

Indeed, Obama spent the week telling Europeans everything they wanted to hear, but got little for it. The French and the Germans still belittled America's "Anglo-Saxon" capitalism and refused to follow our lead.

This might lead to a painful realization for Obama. While he may think words are everything, for our enemies and even our friends, words are -- still -- just words.

Irrational
Irrational and infatile rhetoric surfaces day in and day out from the current crowd in this administration. It's a tough world out there and no one "from over the pond" outside the Brits ( and they have there monments ) seem to support us. So perhaps we should start to call it as it is and gear ourselves to facts on the ground and not emotions!

Verbiage
"Indeed, despite the change in jargon, in the war formerly known as "the war on terror," Obama's policies are shockingly in sync with Bush's."

Obama changes the verbiage but not the policies because he knows Bush was right. He has now learned what the difference is between a rock and hard place.

Great column!

Obama Must Have a Method to His Madness
My English teachers taught us to seek language that was clear, precise, bold, energizing. BO's changing of the language is calculated to do the opposite: confuse and enervate.

Why?

To win friends and influence people through verbose spinelessness? Axelrod, admitting BO's lack of gaining concessions, claims they were "planting seeds."

Well, dang. Every gardner knows you reap what you sow. What does BO expect to reap from his obsequious apologies and enervating definitions?
Miss Congeniality in a beauty pageant?

How is a neutered America, a bunch of impotent eunichs standing around blathering, or worse yet bowing to kings and bending over for dictators, a good thing?

A POTUS is elected to defend the US Constitution, protect US sovereignty, and fight for American interests. Somebody needs to get some balls and stand up to these effeminate, "progressive" internationalists the nanny-state ninnies have elected to lead/destroy us.

The Need to Act
I wonder what term Obama will come up with to describe the situation off the Somalia coast. Can’t use “illegal”, too harsh. Can’t use “terrorist”, not in his dictionary. God forbid you mention their ethnicity or possible religious affiliation. Let’s see, how about “Unauthorized Maritime Toll Enforcement”?

Obama is showing weakness not leadership. Fact is, we look like the paper tiger that Bin Laden believed us to be on 9-11. It took 2 wars to convince the world otherwise and now that sacrifice is being wiped away. Obama is gauging his response on how he would respond; let’s talk. Bad idea when the other party views anything but action as weakness. I pray that the captain of the hijacked ship lives to sail another day, but Obama needs to stand up.

Yes, BO Appears to Be Following Bush's..
...policies in the war. However, is his meek, nay, weak demeanor doing any better than Bush in getting our so-called allies to spill their blood and spend their euros in the fight on Whatever-You-Want-to-Call-It?

I guess we'll see soon enuff.

Good piece Jonah.
It is the nature of the left wing sociopath to molest the dialog, and simply an extension of their deeper tendencies, of the compulsion to tear down without what cannot be reconciled within that empty and disordered world of deviancy, self indulgence, and degeneracy. The naked contempt they project upon their own culture and country is a result of the miserable self loathing so writhing within them. The master plan actually requires molestation of the dialog in order to achieve the moral ambiguity under which their own emptiness, degeneracy and moral bankruptcy, left so from the rejection of all things related to traditional values, can avoid the light of day, can run from the shaming indictment of judgment from the light of the lessons of history.

Pat: Good Post
Here's the deal (as you well know). Romney used to rail that neither Hillary nor Obama had ever run anything--not so much a corner store. Neither has been so much as a Boy Scout patrol leader.

A student in BO's Con Law class sang BO's praises as a teacher, saying "He just let us talk; never forced anything on us." Well, hellz bellz. What kind of "teacher" is THAT?

BO has never DONE anything, has no record of accomplishment on any level. I'll bet Michelle paid the bills and took out the garbage. BO lives in the leftist/progressive world of academia: Let's just sit around and talk about it.

He's never figured out how to run a business, meet a payroll, comply with a gazillion govt regs, pay a gazillion taxes, lay awake nights sweating bullets on how to defeat the competition.

We all knew this when the dopes elected him. He has a naive social agenda which is completely unsustainable, as we all know. Social Security, was was to go broke (pay out more than it takes in) in 2017 just went upside down this month.

Obama has no clue how to lead; has never lead as much as the Easter Parade. And we've pitted him against all the old, savvy, wily leaders of a dangerous world--with whom he is playing patty cake in order to win their favor?

God help us all.

libertyworld: Bingo
"Ambiguity" is the name of the BO game. How can anybody shoot down an ambiguous target?

Ready for April 15th?
Find out when/where your local tea party is being held, tell your friends and family, make your poster, and show up and roar. The Silent Majoriy Silent No More. America needs YOU to show up and help put her back on the pedestal where she belongs.

Democrats, Republicans, independents, conservatives and Libertarians; everyone is protesting the greed and stupidity happening in Washington, D.C. Enough is enough!

Lots of Excellent Points

By both the author and the posters. As that moron Biden stated during the Democratic primary, commander-in-chief is a poor place for on-the-job training. Unfortunately, that's what we're in for with President Obama.

So what does he default to? The only skill that he's got in his "community organizer" tool box -- talking.

The most resonant line of the article, however, was not directly about Pres. Obama: "President Clinton was very good at vowing to hunt down our enemies after terrorist attacks, but when he left the podium, he was more interested in how his comments played in polls and focus groups than what we were doing to catch the bad guys."

That is dead-on accurate. Shortly after the cowardly attack on the U.S. Cole (ambushed under the guise of a civilian supply boat), Pres. Clinton delivered one of the best speeches I've ever heard on the pier of the Norfolk Naval Base. His words and delivery were perfect -- essentially telling his audience, the nation and the entire world that this was an attack on America and it would be answered directly and immediately.

And then ... nothing. That was Bill Clinton. All the right words. None of the right actions.

On-the-job training? Let's hope that Pres. Obama is a fast learner. And that he takes his lessons from Reagan-Bush and not from Clinton-Carter.

Prez of "Because I Said So!"
Obama isn't just naive, he is very dangerous. His narcissism and arrogance make me believe that he is even more of danger than anyone could have perceived.

He didn't want to take time to talk about the pirates,--- oops I mean-- monetarily-challenged, "pirate-like" purloiners. He seems to want to avoid making most hard choices.

I look for him to come up with a new word for the presidency,,,,oh, say,.. something like TYRANT?

Sadly, BO Has Already Learned...
...all he plans to learn, I fear, from the feet of Saul Alinsky et al. The "people" have not only elected him, but his election means (in his mind) that he has the power and authority to do whatever he chooses, the Constitution be damned.

He is Progressive to the core, will do all in his power to accumulate money and power for the government and pander to the international community.

As POTUS maybe in his megalomaniacal mind, this makes him ruler of the world.

The Progressive movement has been working at odds with America's Founding Principles since TR, Wilson and FDR. He's not going to learn or change. His plan is to teach and change US. Or at least dominate us through the tyranny of the ignorant masses.

Hmm.
Maybe the detainees at our base in Cuba could be relabeled delayed-onset delinquents, mischief-makers, protesters, or simply the Gitmo Guys. Because this country is well along in extending all the benefits of citizenship, including welfare and the vote, to everyone in the world, it no longer officially recognizes the existence of foreigners. So maybe the Gitmo Guys should be described as unruly extraterritorial citizens.

Of course the O'Blahblah administration could save a lot of trouble by rebranding Gitmo as an extended-stay summer camp.

The far left filter
Both the President's and SoS Clinton's trips show a clear inability to see the world through anything approaching reality.
Their social gaffs point out that both persist in assuming that the rest of the world is "just like us", right down to what role Madison avenue plays in our lives.

The iPod and DVD gifts point to the mindless materialism that upholds such trivial baubles as items of worth.
The big red button was lifted right out of a Staples ad.

I can't say I expected anything different from the President, but I am truly surprised that the SoS learned so little during her stay at the White House That she is so blithely ignorant of US-Soviet history to not realize what her gift would call to mind does not bode well for her.

OBAMA APOLOGIZE TO THE U.S.A.
President Obama should apologize to the citizens of the United States for his attack of the constitution of the United States. I believe Obama comments should looked at along with his proposal to remove the defense shield as violation of the countries safety. That would be grounds for impeachment proceedings, that would make him a domestic enemy of the United states that is why he is apologizing for the history of the United States as it concern being in two world wars to save the people of europe.

TWO SETS OF WORDS
barry has his set of 'teleprompter' words which are someone elses.
And then he has his own set of words, such as, "I won", "Can't I just eat my waffles", "I won", "I've been to 57 States so far with two more yet to go", "I won", "Typical White person", "I won", "I would no more denounce reverand wright than I would the Black Church", "I won", "I will bankrupt the coal industry", "I won", "My muslim faith", "I won", "Just like the Special Olympics", "I won", "I won, I won I won!!!!!!!!!".

JUST WORDS
IMPEACHMENT
This is a fact from the very the foundation of United States Constitution: Article II, section 1, paragraph 5.
“No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.”
"As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.'s children."
Barack Obama II is a child of Obama Sr., thus former Senator Obama was a British subject (British citizen) at birth, and not a natural born U.S. Citizen.

JUST WORDS II
The Federal Grand Jury and the District Courts of the District of Columbia are the ONLY two entities for recourse for Impeachment!
§ 212. Citizens and Natives.
VATTEL & JEFF TAYLOR (U.S. Attorney) EXPLAINS “CITIZEN” and “NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.”
The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.
As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights…I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.

The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born.

words are important
because you can't think of something unless you have a word for it. In one of the footnotes to 1984 (I think it was a footnote.) Orwell notes that the entirety of the Declaration of Independence would be, if written in Newspeak, "crimespeak". One word. People die for words.
However, it is equally true that when it comes right down to it, words cannot stop a bullet. Or do any other material thing. The trick is to know when you have gone beyond where words count and entered the arena of deeds.

A few humble suggestions
"Meanwhile, the White House has announced that prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will no longer be called 'enemy combatants.' No word yet on what the new term will be."

I have a few suggestions. Here's my top 10:

10. Harmless Victims of American Imperialism
9. Potential Obama Cabinet Officials
8. Comrades/Band of Brothers (tie)
7. Future ACORN foot soldiers
6. Self-Detonation Specialists
5. Future Brownshirts for the "Domestic Security Force"
4. Freedom Fighters
3. Strategic Partners for Peace
2. Future Guests on "Countown with Keith Olberman
1. Potential Democrat Voters

- Potential Keynote Speakers for DNC 2012
- Future Ivy League Professors
- Possible Replacements for Elisabeth Hasselbeck on "The View"

flap ears and words
seems the lefties messiah and savior believes he has the power to convince others by cuddling up to them and whispering sweet nothings.

The problem seems to be that the only words are posted to his teleprompterput their by various handlers, most particularly david axlerod.

It seems axlerod has made a career out of running campaigns for black candidates who use black victimhood and white racism as the hallmark of getting them elected.

And now axlerod seems to be putting the words into the mouth of soros's newest sock puppet.

It seems the messiah can mouth the words, bask in the glow of the love the bootlickers bestow upon him when hearing the pearls of wisom dripping from his lips.

The problem seems to be no one still knows what the messiah believes or has he just mastered reading the empty words others put in front of him

OBAMA APOLOGIZED
FOR AMERICA'S ARROGANCE?

WHEN WILL HE APOLOGIZE FOR HIS OWN?

Forget the "realizations," JG . . .
Obama's world begins and ends with himself. The accolades heaped upon him by a fawning media and star-struck electorate have him believing his own press. I think he honestly believes that he should be able to get whatever he asks for from the rest of the world simply because it is he who is asking.

Never...
...has one so empty of substance been so wantonly full of himself.
Never has one so lacking in competence been so overflowing with confidence.
Never has one so naked of clothes put on such gaudy airs.
Never has one so full of self loathing been so adored.
Never has one flying the flag of unity delivered such its antithesis.
Never has one so contemptuous of liberty been given such control of its lifeblood.
Never has one so praising of words shown his own such cowardly dishonor.

If multitudes can go to Tea Parties . .
. . . then multitudes can march on Washington and call for the impeachment of Obama.

Jonah

The phrase that you are looking for to describe enemy combatants AND jihadists is

MUSLIMS WITH HEADACHES

In these particular Muslims (notice, that I did not say all), voices of Allah and Mohammed are routinely found whispering or screaming within their heads.

The Bloke Does It Again!
From the irresistible pen of the rascal, Mark Steyn...

"Once upon a time we killed and captured pirates. Today, it’s all more complicated. The attorney general, Eric Holder, has declined to say whether the kidnappers of the American captain will be “brought to justice” by the U.S. “I’m not sure exactly what would happen next,” declares the chief law-enforcement official of the world’s superpower. But some things we can say for certain. Obviously, if the United States Navy hanged some eyepatched peglegged blackguard from the yardarm or made him walk the plank, pious senators would rise to denounce an America that no longer lived up to its highest ideals, and the network talking-heads would argue that Plankgate was recruiting more and more young men to the pirates’ cause, and judges would rule that pirates were entitled to the protections of the U.S. constitution and that their peglegs had to be replaced by high-tech prosthetic limbs at taxpayer expense.

Meanwhile, the Royal Navy, which over the centuries did more than anyone to rid the civilized world of the menace of piracy, now declines even to risk capturing their Somali successors, having been advised by Her Majesty’s Government that, under the European Human Rights Act, any pirate taken into custody would be entitled to claim refugee status in the United Kingdom and live on welfare for the rest of his life. I doubt Pirates of the Caribbean would have cleaned up at the box office if the big finale had shown Geoffrey Rush and his crew of scurvy sea dogs settling down in council flats in Manchester and going down to the pub for a couple of jiggers of rum washed down to cries of “Aaaaargh, shiver me benefits check, lad.” From “Avast, me hearties!” to a vast welfare scam is not progress."

Amateurs at Work
The sad truths are that liberals are really not grown-ups. They want to treat vicious terrorists like kids who act up in nursery school with a "time-out." They believe changing language changes reality but instead when you tell an alligator to "Cease and desist" and have a "time out," it just shrugs and gobbles you up.

China, Russia, and Iran must all be chortling with glee. They realize that just like Jimmy Carter's administration the sophomores are in power again in the USA.

Putting a former female state governor in charge of national Homeland Security is like putting a house cat in a cage with tigers. Conservatives would have chosen a vicious junkyard dog like, say, Rudy Giuliani.

Jesus is Risen - He is Alive

Hallelujah, "He is risen!"
Jesus is gone up on high!
Burst the bars of death asunder;
Angels shout, and men reply:
He is risen, He is risen,
Living now, no more to die.

Hallelujah He is risen!
Our exalted Head to be;
Sends the witness of the Spirit
That our Advocate is He:
He is risen, He is risen,
Justified in Him are we.

Hallelujah, He is risen!
Death for all has lost his sting;
Christ, Himself the Resurrection,
From the grave "His own" will bring:
He is risen, He is risen,
Living Lord and coming King.

oh Death Where Is Thy Sting,
grave, Where's Thy Victory,
in Three Days, The Stone Rolled Away.
stone Rolled Away,
an Empty Grave Proves What I Say,
he Lives Today.

Method To His Madness???

No, just madness.

Add how Mark Steyn also hits upon the farcical stance that the Obama Administration has taken with regard to Iran and North Korea.

It is just too funny!

I half expect Obama to start spurting Bible scripture like many insane individuals, who hear voices and believe themselves to be characters in the Bible.

Lawyers Talk, Pragmatists Act
Come to think of it, liberals who tend to be atheists, agnostics, and secularists act like naive Christians when they are in power. The real Christians, however, for centuries fought for survival, otherwise we all would be paying allegiance to a Muslim caliphate today.

Lawyers are probably the worst choice for CIC. They operate under the assumption that you can always talk your opponents into submission. I prefer pragmatists like Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Richard Nixon and Dwight Eisenhower. Lawyers are only effective AFTER the war is over but talk is useless against foes who are bent on destroying you and your country. I guess they didn't teach that at Harvard Law School.

And, He Rested On The Sabbath...

If the obaMESSiah has been rested by the Iranian, the North Korean, and Somali "destractions" on the first 6 days, what, pray tell, shall he do on the Sabbath?

Rest and get a dog.

No offense, Captain Phillips, but you were not a campaign promise.

The Village That Says It All

About appeasement, "A Blame (Insert Country Here) First foreign policy, the National Socialists' (Nazis) atrocities, and why Europe, especially the French, should always be willing to fight off gathering storms...

Oradour-sur-Glane in France.

I have visited the village, which has been a memorial since the end of WWII. The only survivors of that day were the villagers, who were out of town that day. The men and boys were shot and the women and young children were herded into the church where they were killed and the building set ablaze.

To this day, you can walk by the crumbling houses and see tricycles in the front lawns and pots on the stoves. But for the rust, you would think that everyone had just gone out for a walk.

If you are ever in France, visit Oradour-sur-Glane in Limoges.

If you want to see some photographs, Google it.

jerseyvet, as a lawyer and a pragmatist, not only is no offense taken, but I agree wholeheartedly.

I Give Points for Consistency
to Obama's speechwriter who /is/ good with
words.

Obama? He is not so good with words without the
writer. A lot of "uhhhh" followed by
uncomfortable moments of silence - he's thinking.

Just like Rush has said, the Dems do not pretend
to have morals. They never made the claim.

Obama is full of hot air plus blowhard Biden;
look out.

Bring Video Cameras to the Tea Party
Be prepared to document any provocation and thuggery by Obama operatives. ACORN has become the Obama-Emanuel equivalent of Hitler's Brown Shirts. This is a dangerous government.

You were were warned during 2008 election, America, and now you must deal with the consequences. It is incumbent upon every real American to take back the country.

WAKE UP, AMERICA, OR DIE IN YOUR SLEEP!!

Obama's Word Play
"Talk is common, deeds are precious." I recall hearing Ross Perot express that thought during his campaign. I think he is right. So, let's see how our current POTUS role player measures up to that test.

The talk: Energy independence. The deed: Cancelling gas, oil, and shale oil leases that had already been sold.

The talk: Complaining to the UN and making speeches about North Korean missile tests and Iranian nuclear developement. The deed: Shutting down missile defense and stopping continued F-22 aircraft production.

Some of our friends and neighbors are getting together on the 15th for TEA Parties. For those in or thinking of getting in politics and public service: Please listen, pay attention, and consider what your deeds will be. The rest of us will "Remember in November" as H.L. Richardson so aptly put it.

Napolitano: Woman-made Disaster
When terrorist strike and are successful in decimating American cities, we can say she presided over a "woman-made disaster."

Shades of Governor Blanco, who couldn't keep up with Walmart! Katrina was mostly a Nagin/Blanco disaster, as Nagin left a thousand or so busses under water, and Blanco refused federal control over the National Guard. Only Walmart performed.

Perhaps we should hire Walmart to run Homeland Security.

Joel #41
Excellent my friend.

Vulgarity
The vulgarity that is Obama is real. he apologizes for our arrogance? he needs to look at his face in a mirror and realize he is a pretender only.

With millions of Americans having given their lives for this world, buried on foreign shores, in France, Spain and throughout Europe, on Africa's shores during WWII

I think it is time to demand that he step down and leave the country is is not a citizen of at all.

My dream

Arrogance?

Ask any Berliner who is around 70 years of age if America was arrogant during the Berlin Airlift and they likely will tell you that without the airlift they would all be speaking Russian today as would the rest of Western Europe. Obombo is a traitor to the memory of the selfless heroes who kept Berlin free in 48/49.

This just in!
"Americans" to be re-named "Comrades".

The Brits have their moments? What about when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, and Reagan ignored it? How many aircraft carriers did we have within a week's sail, and how many did we send to help? How many millions of troops could we have transported there within a week? How many did we send?

The only right we have to criticize the Brits WRT our alliance is called "might".

Obama's Word Play
Obama's manipulation of politically correct words is just another example of the dumbing down of America. If he and his government change the "feeling" of the words, Americans will be soothed into believing it means something totally different than it is. Frankly, I'm tired of this wordsmithing, which ultimately means nothing.

How dumb do they think
....we are? Now that I think of, it the people who voted for this phoney may not be the sharpest knives in the drawer either.

A Vietnam Vet Weighs In
I wrote about this on our National Org. of Conservative Women (NOCW) site. Here is an eloquent response from a Vietnam Veteran:

"...I was there to watch, helplessly, as the lives of fellow soldiers drained away on the battlefield. To listen to the politicians of today diminish the sacrifices of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines of today by the diminished use of our English language is nothing less than a travesty. To refer to what we call upon of this Nation’s youth as a “Contingency” is nothing more than an insult to their effort, their sacrifice, their devotion and their dedication to the ultimate call of this Nation. We owe them better. There is no higher calling, and to trivialize it is a disgrace. Obama and his ilk disgrace those who serve. No, damn it, I didn’t go to “contingency”, I went to WAR!"

NOCW is dedicated to giving voice to our bravest. We are NOW's antithesis; NOCW honors, respects and gives gratitude to this nation's soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. We welcome your comments and stories.

Semantics Is Subordinate To Defense
April 16, 2009
Jonah: You have to say that President Bush, maligned and defamed as he was by individuals devoid of complete information, nevertheless kept America safe all through the time period subsequent to our greatest tragedy. Call it the war on jello or the war on stupidity and arrogance, nothing assures me that we are safe into perpetuity. Yes I am offended by the administration minimizing this awful scattered dilemma by mincing words, but the main concern should be, are we all still safe?
