Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"We are the ones we've been waiting for," Barack Obama proclaimed many times during the campaign. He and his throngs of supporters preened in the glow of their own righteousness like cats in a puddle of sunlight. They were for "shared sacrifice" and a "new era of responsibility." They wanted to put aside the "old politics" and the "tired arguments" of the past.

Well, where are those people now?

Obama brags -- albeit dishonestly -- that he's only raising taxes on rich people. Ninety-five percent of the American people will get a tax cut, the president insists.

Well, which is it? Do the times demand shared sacrifice from us all, or from just 5 percent of Americans?

If I say to 10 co-workers, "We all need to chip in together to get this done," and then say, "So, Todd, open your wallet and give five bucks to everyone else in the room," it would sound ridiculous. But when Obama says the same thing to 300 million Americans it's called "leadership."

"The problem with socialism," Margaret Thatcher once said, "is that you eventually run out of other people's money." What Obama is proposing isn't socialism -- yet -- but it runs into the same problem. You could take all of the money made by the richest 1 percent in this country and it wouldn't come close to covering government's expenses -- even if those rich people for some reason kept working.

Our income tax system is already extremely progressive, and it provides roughly half of all government revenue (add corporate income taxes, and it covers nearly three-fifths of all government revenue). The top 5 percent of earners pay more than 60 percent of income taxes. The top 10 percent of earners pay more than 70 percent. And the top half of earners pay just shy of 100 percent of income taxes. Estate and gift taxes are even more progressive.

Now, it's true that the low wage earners who pay no income taxes do contribute in other ways. Sales taxes, payroll taxes and other hidden taxes take a mighty bite out of the working poor and lower-middle class.

And, thanks to Obama, the poor will pay even more. President Obama's proposed carbon tax will raise the price of energy. In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in early 2008, candidate Obama admitted as much: "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

Liberals will defend Obama's carbon tax by saying it's vitally necessary to combat climate change, end our dependence on foreign oil and boost our embryonic green industries like wind and solar. Fine, fine. We can have that argument, as weak as I think it may be.

But why isn't Obama honest about the fact that he's asking the working poor and middle class to pay even more? He's the guy who talks such a big game about shared sacrifice. He's the one talking about a "new era of responsibility." Heck, that's the title of his proposed budget -- you know, the one that will irresponsibly explode the deficit?

Instead, Obama sticks to his promise that everyone who isn't rich will get a "tax cut." That tax cut, by the way, amounts to $13 dollars more a week for the typical worker, according to the Associated Press. In 2010, that cut will be worth $7.70 a week. Will that cover "skyrocketing" electricity rates? Or higher gas prices? How about higher prices for things that use energy to get manufactured, i.e. everything?

I don't know the answer myself. Maybe $1.85 a day in 2009 and $1.10 in 2010 will cover that. But I doubt it, particularly when your job is outsourced to carbon-tax-free China or India. The point is that Obama's rhetoric about shared sacrifice is bogus on every level.

He tells people they are the upright ones for supporting his policies when what he's actually saying is that he's taking from the rich and giving it to them. "Shared sacrifice" really means taking other people's money, while "greed" is not wanting to give it up and "responsibility" is when the government takes it anyway.

In reality, he's giving with one hand and taking with the other. He's telling the poor he's only soaking the rich, when he's in fact soaking everyone. The amazing thing is that his supporters, rich and poor alike, buy it. No wonder they're the ones they've been waiting for.

The only reason they had to "wait"
...was because it took several generations of state schooling to render the public ignorant enough, and several generations of welfare state handouts to make them dependent and morally bankrupt enough, that they would be willing to surrender their liberty for the false promise of the ""security of the new socialist order.

If it were only their own liberty they were surrendering, I would be jiggy with it. But, it's my liberty and that of my children and grandchildren that's being surrendered, without my consent. That liberty is my birthright as a human being. It was paid for with the blood of my ancestors. It is not theirs to do with as they please.

I'm fed up with these imbecilic infantile dreamers playing fast and loose with my forefathers' bequest to me and my progeny. Now what?

Inflation is a gift. Use it.
Platitudes and Empty Promises says #38, MyOpine, CA. Not so. Inflation is official government policy. It can therefore be made our very reliable friend. Buy real estate at 20% down, giving you 5 to 1 leverage, meaning a 3% inflation rate gives you a 15% yearly gain on your down payment. And the higher the inflation, and the lower the down payment, the better. This is why 70% of us own our own homes. Use government's gift of inflation wisely and grow rich.

Jonah Goldberg nailed it
"It stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there’s someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master."

--Ayn Rand, “The Soul of a Collectivist,” For the New Intellectual, 73.

Do Your Duty: Legally Avoid Taxes
Dan of GA: harken to my advice. We are all free to legally avoid income and payroll taxes. Rental income for example avoids the 15.3% self-employment payroll tax. It also avoids taxes on income through depreciation at the rate of $36,363 per $1,000,000 in improvements.

The typical four-unit apartment building sells for as much as a good house. In California, where Prop. 13 limits property tax increases to 2%/year, that would be $750,000 and up, calling for a mere $150,000 down payment.

The self-directed Roth IRA avoids all income taxes as it grows, and the gains can be milked after age 59.5 tax-free. It is particularly good for avoiding otherwise inevitable short term capital gains, such as real estate and stock option trading.

The higher the inflation, the higher the CA property tax savings and the higher the 5 to 1 leveraged capital gains. That leverage, along with the mortgage interest deduction, are the reason Bush urged people to own their own homes, and why many own apartment buildings.

The 16th amendment converted all income to government property. The data show that tax revenue from 1950 on is a constant 19.7% of GDP, regardless of the tax rate, So government since before 1950 has tended to have policies (depreciation, mortgage interest deductibility, Roth IRA, etc.) that maximize GDP growth. That means it must allow it citizens to grow their wealth and income to maximize GDP. But for these policies, we'd be right back to 10 year 20% unemployment of the 1930s under FDR, where Obama, by reversing these policies, is now heading us.

Mike
The IRS reports those numbers every year.

Denise
Ever hear of demonic oppression? That's what I think is happening, although I imagine there will be tons of naysayers and mockers. But that's okay, I happen to believe in the power of Prayer, it's our strongest and most effective weapon. We see the human criminals, we don't see the manipulators behind them.
I'm not ready to give up on this country and
say it's the end, not when we have GOD..He's allowing us to experience this pain for His
good purposes..that's to bring U.S. back to Himself. We've been too rich, too greedy and too preoccupied with ourselves and have really strayed from moral absolutes and personal responsibility inspite of His warnings. We've become too complacent, we say God Bless America
but it's lip service..we need to say God have Mercy upon U.S. There's a black evil fog covering most of our land, not completely only I think because Praying people are holding it back. We need to take 2 Chron. 7:14 seriously if we are to survive.

The 9% Example of Ignorance

According to today's Fox News/Dynamics Opinion Poll, 9% of Americans consider anyone making UNDER $75,000 to be WEALTHY. Yes, you read that right. So, if you are getting are a panhandler or steal a buck from the poor box, then you be rich.

I am not even sure if IGNORANCE is the root cause. I am beginning to believe that there is some sort of mental defect at the base of this insanity.

Good word: Thank you

@MyOpine:

Thank you for the good word.

I was not advocating grabbing our guns and
taking to the streets, but was responding to
Tammy's "get used to it" attitude.

All things in moderation, I suppose.

I am already...
...accepting the consequences of my own actions.

I receive no hand-outs of any type from any government agency, and never have (beyond a one
year student *loan*, years ago)

I am raising a son.

I consider it my first responsibility to take care of my family's needs, the second to take
care of my community's needs, and thirdly to do
what I can for society.

I do not need you to agree with me....it is my
opinion that people who tell me to "get used
to it" when I complain that my country is being
ruined are ignoring reality and history.

So, Really? YES!

Howsomever;
We have other options to exhaust prior to resorting to bloodshed. Civil war is the worst thing that can happen to any country. It causes deep wounds that take centuries to heal.

We need to organize a National Strike that shuts down the entire Nation, just like they have done in Europe & Asia.
Concentrate on halting all transportation by using vehicles to block freeways & arterial traffic.
Warn Government Officials in advance that if they arrest a striker for any reason the strike will continue until all strikers have been released and in our opinion, compensated generously for their discomfort.
Also, that if heavy equipment was used against barricades then Thermite would be used to melt holes in the highways at strategic locations and the strike would continue until all striker's vehicles have been repaired at Government expense.
Any reprisals against strikers would cause the strike to resume until strikers are released and compensated.
National strikes rarely last longer than 1 day.

really?
take up arms for the cause? and where would you stop? when could you declare victory? jefferson like the rest of our founding fathers believed in "we the people". those three words weren't larger than the rest because they ran out of type on a printing press. the enemy is an idea, not something you can shoot.that idea,i believe, is representation. in the days of our founding fathers, representatives were necessary as a means of making our democracy work.today, the idea is absolutely archaic. we all have the means by which we can vote on those issues that most concern us, eliminating the "middleman" in the process. we quibble about petty tax cuts, who's paying for whom, etc.when we could save hundreds of billions of dollars by just accepting the consequences of our own actions rather than hand it over to a gang ofbafoons who are in it over their heads. you're brave enough to take up arms. are you brave enough to do that?

Obama the Snake-Oil Salesman
I see taxes going up for everyone, so is the only tax cut we're going to see is $13? I can hardly contain the thrills running up and down my leg. Get out of debt. Get used to eating as cheap as you can. Get Obama to pay for your house. Start writing a budget that stays within the welfare handout you are going to be living on soon.

Be Careful

@Tammy - 2:29 EST

Re: 'We have naysayers about Social Security
but it ain't going away and once UHC arrives,
it won't go away either. Might as well as get
used to it."

You should be careful here, as there is one way
that these socialistic programs will go by the wayside and that is revolution.

I know that at this point this is something of a reach, but it is not inconceivable, in fact it
becomes more believable every day under the Osama
administration.

I myself would fight for the ideals of our
founding fathers. Remember Jefferson? He said
that the tree of Liberty needs to be watered with
the blood of tyrants and patriots.

...and for the record, those saying "Suck on It"
in response to the people's reaction to Obama's
maneuvers do not know what country they are
blessed to live in.

Platitudes & Empty Promises!

None of the promises will help our economy.
Tax cut for the working poor?
This gigantic "Throw away money" project, combined with "Carbon Offsets" will cause a runaway inflation that will destroy the purchase power of every penny you have saved, the money in your wallet and the paycheck you haven't even earned yet.
Everything you buy will cost more.
Anyone notice how the prices in grocery stores are already rising?
Is giving you $13 of your own money and cutting the value of your income in half a "Plus" for you?

Is a "Death Tax" that prevents you from passing your home or farm or business and savings to your children going to help you?

Income Tax was sold to the majority when wages were $1 per day for a 10hr day.
Only the wealthy had to pay that tax.
Milk was 8 cents a quart with a 2 cent deposit on the bottle. Bread was 11 per loaf.
You can easily see how the purchase power of our money has already been degraded by inflation and how the ever escalating inflation has drawn every worker into the tax base.
The runaway inflation we are about to witness will draw even more people into the tax base and destroy earnings in the process.
Why?
Alinsky's words explain;
"They must feel so frustrated, so defeated,so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future."

And weak people will embrace the false hope of Communism.

The Waiting Game to Disaster
"In reality, he's giving with one hand and taking with the other." With government in the middle as the most inefficient bunglers around, there is not much left over to re-distribute anyway.

On the Road to Totalitarianism. It can come from the left or right but more likely from the left as they resort to deception by temporarily providing “creature comforts” to the flock until freedoms have been quietly crushed then the ugly bits come out all of a sudden such as when the unsustainable gravy train comes crashing to a halt.

More deceit and smoke and mirrors. A "charismatic" delivery does not a good president make! That is practically the only talent the pretender has to "dazzle" the Obamabots with.

Thanks
Pam and Roy and the passionate anti-communists with knowledge of history and the wisdom to apply it to modern times. I hadn't heard the quote by Winston Churchill: "Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy."
Obama removed the bust of Churchill from the White House and sent it back to England. Few in the MSM who claim to respect THE GREATEST GENERATION in U.S. history found that action important. The socialists in Great Britain hated Churchill and ousted him after the war, so Obama's symbolic gesture was perfect.

Outsourcing
All throughout the Bush years we heard about the "unfair trade agreements & Bush policies" that caused massive outsourcing of jobs. Anyone with six working brain cells knew that this was merely political pandering. Now BHO wants to enact the carbon tax that will add significantly to the cost structure of every manufacturer in the country. This will certainly produce a torrent of outsourcing that will make the last decade look like a stream of pee next to the Mississippi River.

Mike,
"If our income taxes are confidential, how can anyone know who is paying what? How can it be determined that "the top XX percent is paying XX percent of income tax collections?"

Actually, all one needs to do is have an idea of how incomes are distributed in this country (e.g., __% of people make between $___ and $___ per year), average sizes of households, and a few other choice items of publicly available information.

Then run some scenarios taking these income brackets through the tax process, and you will get a pretty good feel for who is paying what.

Yes, it helps to have time on your hands--but you can save a lot of that time by starting with the lower income brackets first and realizing that they don't pay any taxes...in fact, they get something called the Earned Inocme Credit, which comes from the people in the higher brackets.

Dan
According to the tax foundation, there are 113 million total tax filers, with 40 million on the bottom end that either don't pay income taxes or get a refund check.

In 2007, tax revenues to the gov't were $2.56 trillion.

In order to get to this figure, the average tax bill would have to be around $28,000.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but you need to provide some evidence of your 'taxes not being progressive' claim.

Georgeann,
I was being facetious when I brought up the "Liberal theory of economics."

If you REALLY believe, that "1. In the beginning, there was this big pile of money,"
etc., then there's no hope for you, and it's no wonder you can't make it as an entrepeneur."

Stop this madness
This carbon tax BS makes me enraged. There needs to be a revolt if and when it happens. A tax to combat global warming?

Hmm, if major industrial nations like China don't contribute to this farce, then how is America alone going to conquer "climate change"? If 85% of the rest of the world doesn't fall for this boondoggle, how is 15% going to make a difference? Answer: we're not. People will just go on paying while our liberty is ripped from us.

This cannot happen. These communists must be stopped.

To Conservative Wacko
If you think Lincoln was the great emancipator, may I suggest a couple of good books to read: The Real Lincoln" and "Lincoln Unmasked" by Thomas DiLorenzo; "America's Caesar" by Greg Loren Duran. and the "UnCivil War" by Mike Scruggs. These researchers tell you what your teacher didn't!
Believe me Obama is a lot more like Lincoln than you think!

down the road to...
Winston Churchill said socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Get used to it; that's where Obama is taking us unless we stand up for the principles outlined in the Constitution. I personally do not go down that road blindly, cheerfully, willingly, or without a fight.

a question?
If Obama is only going to raise taxes on the rich, does that mean that they will be responsible for the trillions of dollars he is spending? I think not! Unless a miracle happens my two little great grandaughters(age 3 and 6 months) will still be struggling when at age 80, if they can still work, will be paying on this debt.

The American Public,
Even the Semi-Educated are SO STUPID, And IGNORANT, due to the Public School System, that they have NO IDEA, what they have Elected! [With considerable election FRAUD,-- ACORN] I suspect that if Acorn votes were discounted, he would have lost. Everyone with a modicum of education, KNEW the Kenyan Candidate was a COMMIE. His Mama was a Commie, His Grandfather was a Commie, His Mentors are all Commies-[Bill Ayres, Frank Davis,et al.] We can only Hope for a Bloodless Coup, when the rest of the Dems Realize that They've been HAD. I suppose that they will bring the QUESTION of His Citizenship,or LACK Thereof and use that to Cut Him Loose.

Where did this come from?
The top 5 percent of earners pay more than 60 percent of income taxes. The top 10 percent of earners pay more than 70 percent. And the top half of earners pay just shy of 100 percent of income taxes. Estate and gift taxes are even more progressive.

If our income taxes are confidential, how can anyone know who is paying what? How can it be determined that "the top XX percent is paying XX percent of income tax collections?"

Ignorant Voters
Obama's victory is a result of the takeover of public education by liberals. American history has not been taught accurately for 30 years, and recently, it has been scrapped altogether. So our voters can't name the three branches of government or even place events in the correct century, much less being able to recognize Marxist rhetoric. Those who cared about educating to our national purpose and providing rigorous academics won a few battles, but lost the war. Not surprising that Obama and Ayers were at the forefront of that war, stacking school committees with Marxists, promoting a Marxist curriculum that was already infused with leftist propaganda.
There are two episodes in American history that have been taught to an extreme: the Joe McCarthy "witch hunt" and the Salem witch trials. They are usually taught together in a clever "integrated curriculum" approach. So U.S. voters know nothing about communism and are repelled by the use of the very word. Stage set.

Brilliant use of language
"He and his throngs of supporters preened in the glow of their own righteousness like cats in a puddle of sunlight."

The whole sentence is magnificent, but "preened" is an especially a great word here, so descriptive of self-righteousness, of all that is Obamanation.

georgann #17
1. In the beginning, there was this big pile of money.
2. Some selfish people, who got to the money pile first, took more than they were supposed to. These became known as "the rich."

No, no, no, In the beginning there was a sailing ship carrying a group of people trying to start a new life with religious freedom. There was a forest where the people built a settlement where they would live. In the beginning they tried socialism (everybody gets the same regardless of how much they worked), and lost many people because of it. Then they tried capitalism; each family grew and kept its own food. They comparatively thrived because of it. There was no money. The food they grew and the items they made were their trade goods. After centuries of being bothered by kings and royalty who took without allowing the people any choices, the people kicked out the king, and started a country where the people could prosper from their own work and ideas and build their own piles of money. Some people had better ideas and worked harder and had bigger piles than others who worked less had, because of these ideas.

Now we have an Odumbo and a group of Odumbocrats who wants to take everything from the workers and give to the nonworkers, after keeping most of it for themselves.

Dan
You are sadly mistaken. Our tax system was never "supposed" to be based on income at all. The notion of an income tax was anathema to our founders, and for good reason. Look where it has led us. We've become a nation of panty-waist whiners with their hands out looking for other peoples' money.

You are wrong as to your first contention as well. The income tax we now enjoy is highly progressive (or regressive depending on your definition), just like Marx and Engels specified.

Sharing the sacrifice
B.O. is a chancre on the face of our Constitutional republic. "His" political philosophy is 100% derived from the syphilitic, onanistic, narcissistic and dangerous bile spewed by his muse, Karl Marx. No one who paid any attention was unaware of this when he was campaigning. We will all pay the price of our countrymens' ignorance. How sad.

Tax "CUT" for the 95%
There is no tax cut for the 95%. 55% of tax return filers pay no federal income tax, that is they pay zero federal income tax, so how can you give them a tax "cut"?
The liberals and the liberal media have destroyed conventional definitions for political gain. They have redefined a reduction in any proposed rate of increase in spending as a "cut". They have redefined a handout to a segment of tax return filers as a "cut". All in the name of seeking absolute power.

Jerseyvet
What would be the point of taxing only those who voted for Obama? Most of them don't work.
What do you think you'd get from the ilk of the Marietta Hugheses or the "Oh, Gracious God"'s of this world? Or from the enthralled woman smacking her lips together to form "I love you"?

Thank you to the era of no accountability, no responsibility, no historical reference for the joys of personal success and individuality. Thank you especially to the educators of America who are largely to blame for the dumbing down of America, from which much of this twisted thinking comes.

Domestic Terrorists Return
If we could only tax stupidity and force those who voted for Obama to pay an extra tax for the next four years I believe the economy might have a better chance of recovery.

The Jihadists can sit back and rub their hands in glee because economic stupidity is bringing down the USA without their help.

This is the revenge of the Sixties hippies who brainwashed the son of one of them and by deceit and distortion captured the presidency.

Racist, Narcissist, Sadist
Mr. Obama cares not one whit who he hurts, who he steals from and who he lies to.

I used to think that the stimulus package was merely sleight of hand to pull reparations out of the hat. And I thought a lot about Francisco D'Antonia (Atlas Shrugged)whose goal was to eliminate the name of Robin Hood from our vocabulary. I'm not so sure anymore.

I'm more of a mind that this is a man so far removed from, not just the common man, but any man. He has no affect. His demeanor, once thought to be cool, now seems more indicative of a man who lacks connections to anyone -- anyone but himself, that is.

Is Barack Obama a solopsist or a narcissist, or both? Is he a sadist? Ask youself what other kind of person would pscychologically cripple an entire country?

We have one very sick individual leading us through an economic catastrophe when, the kind of person we need is one who demonstrates leadership, integrity. Mr. Obama has yet to show us one shred of moral fiber. God Help Us. God help our beloved country.

"Going Galt" is the only way. Thatcher's prediction could prove to be true sooner than expected if this were to happen. And maybe we'd be better off for it.

Lastly, can you point the way to Atlantis?

WAIT FOR WHAT?
We got our $13, so the promise has been delivered. All 95% of us. He never said how much the tax cut would be.

How 100% can get tax cuts
We the people pay all taxes, and we are the only ultimate source of all tax revenue. Regardless where government initially collects the money, all tax money ultimately comes from us, the people.
Since we the people are the one and only source of all tax revenue:
There should be only one tax to collect all tax revenue.
It should be a single, simple, fair, direct, graduated, individual, full-income tax levied on living persons for each level of government: One Tax and Done.
You cannot convince a person or a corporation to start a new business or expand an existing business, increase jobs, and hire new employees, when you tax away the operating capitol he is using to operate his PRESENT business
The best thing that government can do to help the country, the people, and even government, is to repeal all of the many hundreds, or thousands of existing taxes, fees, and charges. These taxes are the federal deficit. These taxes are the high price of everything. These tax eliminations are spending cuts. Every tax that is eliminated is a tax that we the people no longer have to pay. These taxes are the difference between the price we pay for health care and everything else, and the price we would pay if these taxes were repealed. Eliminating these taxes will remove them from the price paid for everything by everyone.
One Tax and Done will provide many benefits to all, even government:
One Tax and Done will reduce the price paid for everything by one-third.

just wait!
This next 4 years will be like catching the FLU but like the flu it shall pass, you just feel lousy while you have it!He is destroying himself while he's in office,I can only imagine the thoughts of the 14 million who believed he'd help them out with their house's as he stated, now to find out the program won't help them at all.The people who need medical in NC only to find out there state gov wants to give free bypass surgery to illegal immigrants. What a wonderful world it will be,so the song goes!

Liberal economics described
I forget who it was, but one columnist put forth the best description I've ever heard of the liberal view of economics, summarized as follows:

1. In the beginning, there was this big pile of money.
2. Some selfish people, who got to the money pile first, took more than they were supposed to. These became known as "the rich."
3. Thanks to "the rich," there wasn't enough money for everybody else.
4. The government's job is to make "the rich" put the money back into the pile.

Common misconception
"Our income tax system is already extremely progressive" No, it's not, except on paper. Income is the key word here. If your income consists of tax free munis, deferred income, capital gains and offshore investments that never get taxed even once, then you only pay "income" tax on a tiny fraction of your income. I do not call them rich people. They are the "political donor class" and both parties have coddled them for the last 30 years. When you count in all taxes, our tax system is essentially flat. The next time you hear that the top 1% pay 30% of all income taxes, remember that they report about 25% of all the income in the country. And good for them. But, our tax system is supposed to be progressive. So it's not surprising they pay that much. Also remember that they are reporting only a small fraction of their true income and they have tax avoidance methods you do not have access to, because you don't give serious money to political campaigns. The truth is that the the top 1%, and especially the top on half of 1% are not pulling their weight and haven't been for many years. Ask the IRS. Now let's get back to discussing how much money we need to spend and where it needs to be spent.

Tax cut, my foot!
Unless the Bush tax cuts are extended or made permanent, their expiration in 2010 is an automatic tax increase on everyone who pays taxes. No amount of leftist spin can mask that.

this is what happens
when you combine the power of the Presidency with the wisdom of a child. One can only hope that the child doesn't get angry one day, throw a tantrum, and destroy the game.

Good Thing I'm Not...
holding my breath waiting for the current president to say something that isn't a lie.

You all ought to reduce your exemption, because that $13 isn't your to keep: the IRS is going to want it back. Save yourself a very unpleasant Jan 2010 and pay it up now. Better to have a little pain continuously than a stab in the back all at once, yes?

ACCORDING TO A TAX PREPARER
The extra $13 a week (for whoever qualifies for it) in ones paycheck, isn't actually 'extra', it's simply money not being withheld each week for taxes. That means it's NOT 'extra' income earned and one will end up with the same amount of gross annual income which one pays taxes on. And if the tax tables (brackets) are not changed, (which the tax preparer hasn't heard will be done), ones taxes won't ultimately be any different, meaning it's NO tax cut at all.
This is an example of government math. So is the example of the $600 people received last year---that was taxpayer money in the first place, that the government magnanimously 'gave back' to some taxpayers, but then we were TAXED AGAIN on that same money as 'additional' income.
If barry says what he means and means what he says, then since he defines 'wealthy' as $250,000 annual income, he, his wife and all politicians and their spouses annual incomes each should be 'capped', just like he did 'capping' CEOs income. Only, also include under the 'cap', income from investments, perks, graft, fraud and corruption (oh, and the income they cheated and didn't pay taxes on). By golly, then we'd see real CHANGE in the lifestyles and actions of 'wealthy' politicians.

Personal responsibility my backside.
If he really believed in personal responsibility and self-reliance he would allow failing companies to go under and failing mortgages to go into foreclosure. People are learning quickly to ignore what he says and wait to see what he actually is going to do. (Those people are left-wing psychos, of course, because conservatives saw this coming at least a year ago.)

I think most Americans were cool with the federal government engaging in low-level socialism in order to help those that were really suffering. Obviously, no one should be homeless, hungry, or without basic medical care in the U.S. However, I have come to believe that the federal government should not do any of this anymore. Leave it to state and local governments, churches, and other private charities. Why? Because opening the door to socialism, even a little bit, was an invitation to the kind of abuse we are experiencing now. The federal government should be spending money only on those things that are explicity constitutional.

Prosecute the crooks, weed out the shady politicians, let the lousy companies fail, let the bad mortgages fail. Bad decisions have bad consequences. It's the ugly side of freedom, but I'll take that any day of the week over BHO's worldview.

Conservative Wacko
Obama wants so bad to be like Lincoln. Well,
Lincoln wasn't Lincoln until late into his
presidency. Sorry that Obama is such a disappointment - for you, not for me.

"Debt is a form of slavery" Umm. What would
you call poverty?

Did you listen to his speech at the DNC.
You say "He coould have renewed the American Dream by revitalizing the notion of independence through self reliance. " This is
exactly what he said, self-reliance and
personal responsibility.

Do not assume that which is necessary to get
through this tough time is meant to last, with the exception of UHC, the single most important reason why people voted for Obama beyond the fact that he was not Bush. Also
quite likely that it is why we just simply
are not competitive on the world market. Our
companies are picking up insurance payments
which Euro countries do not have to do. Our
companies cannot compete them with the huge
amount of money that they have to put out
for their workers both as workers and often
as retirees also.

We have naysayers about Social Security but it
ain't going away and once UHC arrives, it won't go away either. Might as well as get
used to it.

Obama has sqaundered his chance
He wants, so bad, to be great like Lincoln, the president who is credited for freeing black slaves in America. However, instead of freeing people he has chosen the path of slavery. But I guess he probably justifies his version of slavery because it doesn't discriminate people by the color of their skin.

The plans he is laying will enslave us all to the government (ruling class) through debt and dependance.

Debt is a form of slavery (described this way throughout human history)! It doesn't matter whether it is financial or social. Any time you rely on someone to fulfil a need or desire for you, they have a certain amount of control over you. The more you rely on them, the more control they have over you. There is NOTHING in any of Obama's or the Democrat leaders in Congress that promotes or rewards self reliance.

He inherited our debt, yet instead of freeeing us by letting us ALL keep more of our money and reducing the size ofgovernment, he chose to grow government furthr and take more control over us.

He coould have renewed the American Dream by revitalizing the notion of independence through self reliance. Instead he is replacing it with a promise. A dream is fulfilled by the independent individual; a promise is made to a dependent person waiting for something to be given to him. This whole damn thing is about independence (self-reliance) vs. dependence (a promise to get something for free).

Obama is no Lincoln. In fact, I wouldn't even compare him to any of our country's past leaders. They wanted to either support or further what this country stands for (even the bad ones). He wants to "change" what this country stands for, and that makes him un-American!

WOE unto us...
"Instead, Obama sticks to his promise that everyone who isn't rich will get a "tax cut." That tax cut, by the way, amounts to $13 dollars more a week for the typical worker, according to the Associated Press. In 2010, that cut will be worth $7.70 a week. Will that cover "skyrocketing" electricity rates? Or higher gas prices? How about higher prices for things that use energy to get manufactured, i.e. everything?"

This is no ordinary liar. This man is so slick he has persuaded the country to trade a war on terror for a War On the Economy (WOE)!
