Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Hey, black folks, do you know any white folks? Good. OK, I want you to go up to them right now and, as politely as you can, start sharing your most deeply held racial views. Hey, white folks, you're not off the hook. I want you to go and do likewise with any black people you know.

Don't want to do that? Really? Well, then, you're a coward.

That's the short version of Attorney General Eric Holder's speech this week celebrating Black History Month.

Holder says we are "a nation of cowards" because we're unwilling to discuss race to his satisfaction. Some might say that's an ironic diagnosis given that Holder is the first black attorney general, appointed by the first black president of the United States.

Nonetheless, Holder thinks the answer to our racial problems is for more people of different colors to talk about how race defines them. He suggests using the "artificial device" of Black History Month "to generate discussion that should come more naturally" but doesn't.

Well, in the spirit of full and frank discussion, let me say I have some problems with Holder's analysis.

The first thing worth pointing out is that Holder is wrong. America talks about race incessantly, in classrooms, lecture halls, movies, op-ed pages, books, magazines, talk shows, just about every third PBS documentary by my count, blogs, diversity training sessions and, yes, even mandatory Black History Month events.

In fairness, Holder seems vaguely aware of this. The hitch is that he thinks this isn't nearly enough racial argy-bargy. We've got to work the balm of racial dialogue deep into muscle and sinew of the body politic.

My biggest objection to Holder's speech is that it reveals how enthralled to a cliché he is. Look, despite the bold tone of his remarks, this is just a terribly hackneyed idea. People have been calling for a national dialogue for years. Twelve years ago, Bill Clinton even proclaimed a whole year would be dedicated to a national conversation on race.

Assuming Holder is serious, who says more talk would make things better? Is there some social science to back up this talking point posing as wisdom? Have there been studies showing that if you force blacks and whites to talk endlessly about race, race relations improve? If so, is the research any good? Or is this liberal conventional wisdom masquerading as something else?

Perhaps Holder envisions a national conversation where the whole country becomes a giant School of Athens, with blacks as Socrates and whites as Plato, eagerly taking instruction on the finer points of racial consciousness. The image that comes to my mind is different. I see Michael Scott, the hyper-vapid boss from NBC's "The Office," hectoring Stanley and Darryl -- the show's two black characters -- to make race an issue when it shouldn't be.

Americans are very good at hearing ideological appeals, but we're almost tone-deaf when it comes to clichés. That's why liberals hide so much of their agenda inside them. Say "diversity makes us stronger" a billion times and you'll come to believe it uncritically, too.

Usually, when I hear a liberal call for a national conversation on race, I translate it as: "People who disagree with me need to be instructed why they are wrong." Indeed, in a sense it's no wonder America is a nation of cowards when it comes to race, because so many of us are terrified of being called racist the moment we step out of line with liberal orthodoxy.

For example, when Clinton held one of his famous town hall discussions, he invited Abigail Thernstrom, a polite, sophisticated scholar of racial issues and champion of race-neutrality, to participate in a frank conversation about race. But the moment she expressed an honest objection to racial quotas, Clinton browbeat her as some kind of crypto-racist idiot.

We see something similar in how Holder envisions the latest iteration of a national palaver on race. He says of the debate over affirmative action (or what blogger Paul Mirengoff calls "a coward's name for race-based preferences") that, "This debate can, and should, be nuanced, principled and spirited. But the conversation we now engage in as a nation on this and other racial subjects is too often simplistic and left to those on the extremes, who are not hesitant to use these issues to advance nothing more than their own narrow self-interest."

Perhaps. Or perhaps calling views you disagree with "extreme" and accusing those who hold them of having dishonorable motives is just a clever way of saying that you don't want an "honest conversation" at all.

I have no interest
...in having any discussions on race. Thanks to the race hustlers and multi-culti Liberals who have traded on demonizing whites for decades now there is nothing to discuss. Liberals have created an atmosphere where any observation about the dysfunction in the black 'community' is lambasted as racist. Never mind the FACTS of persistently high rates of out of wedlock childbirth, crime, school dropouts or the seemingly never ending lawsuits against schools, businesses, and private organizations, who don't meet diversity "goals" as set forth by the diversity police. Don't even think about the fact that most whites are sick and tired of being called racists after decades and trillions of dollars thrown at alleviating poverty. Forget about affirmative action programs that reward under-achieving blacks at the expense of whites and Asian-American students. No, none of it matters because the REAL problem is that whites are just racist.
I feel no obligation towards black Americans whatsoever. They can succeed or fail all on their own. I frankly don't care now nor have I ever. I have friends who happen to be black, but no friends that are 'NI double G ers'. And yes Virginia, there is a difference.

Here's another example
of Obama's inexperience. He appoints tax-evaders to his Cabinet, and now here's a race-baiter as our Attorney General.

BO hung out with Ayers, Wright.&was part of ACORN, with all of their voter schemes that should have landed those guys in jail.

He appointed Rahm Emanuel as his chief-of-staff - a crony of Blagojevich. Now the new Senator Burris is under a cloud of suspicion that he donated money to Blago.

He closes Guantanamo, to the protests of 9/11 families. One of whom ironically died in the Buffalo plane crash last week.

His massive spending plan will bail out the deadbeat homeowners who took out more mortgage than they could pay.

What else? He sends his children to the best private school that money can buy, while denying ordinary Americans the option of sending their kids to school that will sctually teach them. Obama send his kids to the DC public schools? Oh no, that's only for the "little people".

I can confidently call Obama an idiot and a fool. I am glad that I didn't live in the old USSR where I would be shipped off to a prison camp for speaking my mind. But our country is being torn from its foundation of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Now we're getting "death, bondage, and misery."

It doesn't surprise me that

conservatives such as Goldberg are not interested in discussions on race, at least with african americans. But he will certainly open up a discussion (virtually all white) following his column. My question is: How much racism will Goldberg succeed in generating?

If you look at the psychological research done in labs across the last 20 years, it demonstrates that most americans still have many racist attitudes (both covert and overt racism). Conservatives consistently outscore liberals on both forms of racism. And then, like derkrieger above, they whine about being called racist.

Will Goldberg will be successful in generating even more overt racism in the subsequent posts?

The classic liberal post by Douglas
Notice how any thing Douglas posts is loaded with psychological hyperbole.

Douglas lavishes hyperbole on his views by trying to establish a premise no one can disagree with.

The trouble with any premise Douglas generates is that it is from a product of circular reasoning, and not based on facts. Douglas is a classic victim monger who attempts to breed racism into any conversation.

Using overt-covert says that what else is left? If you are not overtly racist, you must be covertly.

And that is a false choice. That is like asking the question, Have you quite beating your wife? Answer, yes or no please.

Douglas is an individual whose life has been spent in an echo chamber, and just woke up from his long nap from reaity.

Thought Police
have arrived here.

That's you "Dr Douglas"

As for Attorneys General, this administration continues the pattern of the recent two of showing a real knack for choosing their nominees, each one worse than the last. Maybe one will resurrect Mitchell Palmer.

Dr
You post just makes me shake my head. Conservatives are not interested in discussions of race? He will open up a virtually all white discussion? Where do you get this stuff?

If I told any of my black friends, and i have many, I wanted to open a discussion on race, they would look at me waiting for a punch line. We don't even consider it. I find that when I read pap like yours it is the only time that their race enters my mind And I am proud that I look at them as just good friends. I'm sorry doctor, but the blacks I socialize with and work with do not need a discussion about race. We are too busy working together to deal with our priorities and using our spare time to enjoy each others company.

A vision of America
Holder, as part of the Obama administration, expressed how this current administration sees America: in a negative light.
--We're racist, selfish, greedy, careless, irresponsible, etc.

I miss Ronald Reagan. Once reason why I miss him is because he truly loved America and knew that it was WE THE PEOPLE who made America great.
--Reagan respected us, admired us, and praised us as hardworking, generous individuals.

Cowards Voted For Obama?

If it weren't for white voters, Obama would have been unsuccessful in his quest for the Presidency.

My best friend is black and she and her entire family are Conservatives. None voted for Obama.

Race-baiting was an issue during the election. Pundits said that, if you did not vote for Obama, you were racist. Even my idiotic neighbor, James Carville, suggested prior to the election that there would be riots in the streets if Obama lost. Every person of color that I know (and I know many) were offended... 1) Because they all were supposed to vote for "the black man" because they were the same color, and 2) Because the racist-baiting statements implied that "blacks" would riot.

What a shameful statement to be made by the first African-American AG, appointed by the first African-American POTUS.

He calls the Citizens of the Country that he is supposed to serve "cowards", when he arranged the pardon of the real cowards (the FALN), who murdered Americans.

He said, “You would cross the street.”

I have talked to many people over the decades, and have found that when you get to the bottom line, no one really hates another person because of color, race, gender, creed, or anything like that. Those factors are the identifiers, and what you do next depends on your past experience with such a person, or what you just read in the paper, or heard on the news.

Just the other day I said to a Black man, a Pharmacist, “Do you know what I would do if I saw three big black men coming towards me on a dark street?”

He said, “You would cross the street.” I said, “No, I would say, Good evening Michael Jordan, glad to meet you Magic Johnson, I loved your show Bill Cosby.” He cheered my comment, and roared with laughter.

If you were a steady watcher of the Jerry Springer TV show, and someone told you a Black family was going to move into a house just down the block, you would be horrified.

If you were a steady watcher of the Bill Cosby TV show, and someone told you a Black family was going to move into a house just down the block, you would be thrilled.

You do not command respect, you earn it. If most of the stories in the paper tell about black gang members killing people, the Black community must correct that problem, the white community can’t do it.

"Dr" Douglas said...
**If you look at the psychological research done in labs across the last 20 years, it demonstrates that most americans still have many racist attitudes (both covert and overt racism). Conservatives consistently outscore liberals on both forms of racism.**

Who says? Name those studies. Name the sponsors of said studies. I defy you. You are a poor excuse of a human being.

Just because you say something, doesn't make it so. Poor, pitiful, picked on, little excuse for a man. Go away. You really annoy me.

Holder is out of touch
George Bush senior was accused of being out of touch when he didn't know how a grocery store scanner worked. He was pilloried and mocked. But Holder's lack of connection with reality is far more consequential; he is unaware that every school child from kindergarten through college is inundated with racial "discussions" throughout their academic careers. Race is infused into every subject - usually where it doesn't belong. But it is not a discussion as we think of the word; it is always a lesson that teaches about the evil acts of whites and the nobility of people of color. My kids and their friends have remarked more times than I can count about how sick they are of being told they are bad by virtue of their race. And Holder thinks they need more of this?? His detachment from reality is dangerous.

Just my opinion
but I'm afraid the home for genuine racism today is the black community. I can hope that eventually, people, on their own and society as a whole will realize, as we did in the 60s that racism is simply stupid. I know we have the professional black race hustlers and academics dedicated to keeping racism alike but whites had the KKK and a lot of prejudices smart people thought were based in fact. And the black community with it's denial of serious problems isn't helping. It's a lot to overcome but we did it once, maybe someday we'll do it again.

What's to discuss?

When Blacks want something, they say, We are people too." "We want the same things as you."

When they are held to the same level of accountability, they then say "hold on, we are different.

This is true for Gays, Women, and every other minority group who whines and complains about unfair treatment. What they don't recognized is most everyone at various points in their life has been the victim of discrimination.

Grow up!

In 1945 there were no blacks in CA
to speak of. There were two in my school. CA folks thought the South, etc were horrible about then, colored folks. I grew up that way, and then I went into the service. Following that I grew into a 76 year old man who has more negative thoughts about blacks than I can believe. I did not learn it as a youngster. I did not learn it from my parents or friends or neighbors. I learned it from the black community.

Nuff said.

End Racism
It'll end when all affirmative-action, quota, special set-asides and pro-active diversity programs are scrapped. The only way to judge any person honestly is on merit. Do they have what it takes, (took) to hold the position in society they currently have? It's the built in deceit of all the above mentioned programs that continue to foster mis-trust, anger and frustration thereby making an honest apprisal of anyone of color impossible. Their acheivement will always remain suspect. But of course, we can't have a strictly merit based system employed here. Liberals have shown us how damaging that might be to ones' self-esteem.

We're Now All Equal
President Obama is 50% White and 50% Black, so he is the perfect representative that America is a Black and White country - equally!

Now, let's talk about how Americans can put this country back on track and look beyond the color of one's skin since we are all supposedly just plain old Americans!

where has Holder been until now?
Until Holder called us all cowards, I wonder where he was in presenting dialog to help the situation he now deems our fault? As far as juries being afraid to convict a black man because of how they perceived he might be treated, why wasn't he speaking out about their verdict on each and every case before him? I'm sure if he had, then we would have seen him in the news. I'm sure that Hannity or O'Reilly would have spotlighted his disdain then. Why now? selahV

Goofy Thinking
Isn't this the same individual who supported Bill Clinton's PARDON of TERRORISTS? What normal, rational individual would even consider something like that? Is anyone REALLY surprised? Consider the source. Need I say more...?

No one cares if you are black or white.
Just be accountable for yourself, for your actions. How can we ever get over racism if we have people like Holder, Jackson and Sharpten to remind us day in and day out that they think there is a problem. Jackson and Shapten have made a nice living playing the race card. Conservatives are interested in what you have to contribute to the country, your ideas and creativity, not the color of your skin. Liberals want blacks to think they are victums. Get over it black people, you are better than that. As individuals you have a lot to contribute to this great country. I solute you. Tell the liberals you deserve better. The conservative know that for a fact.

BLAHBLAHBLAHADINFINITUMADNAUSEUM
What alternate universe does this moron live in? The demonrats/libtards have made an electoral living on exploiting the race issue for decades. The only cowards are people like Holder who stick to the party(D) line instead of thinking for themselves, deathly afraid of the "Uncle Tom" label.

Dr D
"If you look at the psychological research done in labs across the last 20 years, it demonstrates that most americans still have many racist attitudes (both covert and overt racism)."

Yeah, so?? It's a difference of opinion. We're each entitled to our own opinion, and besides, "Diversity makes us stronger" don't you know??

Dr. Douglas = BS
"IdahoGal" is right. It is a common "statistical" game . . . and a form of Sophistry . . . to try to support one's argument by citing UN-NAMED "studies" and alleged "statistics" that have no verifiable source. As a (former) member of the radical (Trotskyist) Left during my mis-spent youth, I know, from personal experience, that many ILLIBERAL "liberals" and Leftists are especially fond of that tactic. Simply CLAIMING that such-and-such "study" confirms a certain position on a particular issue gives the claim an "aura" of pseudo-scientific credibility in the minds of the naive and intellectually lazy . . . even if, typically, no mention is made of the SOURCE of the "study", the methodologies that were used to arrive at its conclusions, or the professional credentials and possible ideological biases of its staff. The "Lancet" study of the degree of civilian casualties in Iraq has been a perfect example of "statistics" that are endlessly quoted by those on the Left, even though it became manifestly obvious that many of those who relied on its claims never bothered to actually read it, in its entirety, or examine the statistical methods which were used in its formulation.

Take the Mirror Test
I suggest that everyone (including the Attorney General) take a close look in a mirror and study carefully what particular shade of skin they see on the face in the mirror; and having done so, ask themselves if the color of that skin or any other color of skin is really of any significance whatsoever, or whether, in fact, the real issue of concern is what goes on inside the skull in the brain that is currently looking at the the face in the mirror - the intelligence, knowledge, determination, character, work ethic, honesty, language skills, learning ability, trustworthiness, personality and all the rest.
Racial discrimination is illegal in our country and if instances of racial discrimination are taking place the Attorney General needs to see that such cases are prosecuted. Otherwise, perhaps we can agree that skin color is irrelevant and refocus our attention on the many significant problems we currently face, on things that actually do matter.

More psychobabble from the idiot Douglas
Once again Dr Douglas displays his world view. It can all be summed up here: "psychological research done in labs across the last 20 years..."

This is where he gets his views on everything. Not from talking with real people, having a discussion over a beer, exploring actual life. But from "psychological research done in labs across the last 20 years."

I reiterate from my last post: Dr Douglas is an idiot and a coward.

Dr Douglas says
"If you look at the psychological research done in labs across the last 20 years, it demonstrates that most americans still have many racist attitudes (both covert and overt racism). Conservatives consistently outscore liberals on both forms of racism."

Hogwash. Here are some very real examples of real racism perpetrated by Liberals everyday but is not called racism because they control the MSM.

Abortion (a liberal ideology). The preponderence of abortions when put in ratio to racial populations in the U.S. kills more blacks than all else combined. In the liberal lexicon this is not racism it is choice.

Hollywood's (a bastion of liberals) portrayal of blacks. No wonder people might avoid a group of young black men standing on the corner.

Psychology (A liberal art). Convincing blacks that they are failing due to covert and overt racism in testing, language, teaching, and every other facet of life so as not to hurt their self esteem. Why even try??

And the list goes on. I wonder who Dr Douglas considers better role models for black men: Clarence Thomas or Jesse Jackson? Bill Cosby or Richard Prior?

Here's a novel idea: lets get rid of racial identity all together and all just be AMERICANS.

Notice Dr Douglas doesn't consider them just Americans but only African Americans. Is that a sample of covert racism?

Reverse Phsycology
When are liberals at their very best? When do they shine? From what I've seen, it is inevitably when unrest (especially racial) and public turmoil are at the forefront. The "good old days" to all of those liberal Senators, College Professors, media talking heads, etc. were the sixties and early seventies; civil unrest, racial violence, protests - that is what really turns them on in a big way!
If I were in their position and wanted more than anything to bring all of that back (which IS what they want), I would find the most sensitive area (race) and keep poking at it. Bringing it up - ad infinitum - ad nauseum! I would try to make people talk about it - constantly! I wouldn't let the subject be forgotten for a moment! I would pressure groups of citizens to organize focus groups everywhere, harping and harping - making people feel guilty! Then, I would just hang back and wait - BOOM - we're back! :)

Dr.Douglas....
Please stop & think before you write:
"It doesn't surprise me that conservatives such as Goldberg are not interested in discussions on race, at least with african americans. But he will certainly open up a discussion (virtually all white) following his column. My question is: How much racism will Goldberg succeed in generating?"
"...discussion virtually all white..." you say: well, that's interesting, cuz as I understand it, blacks make up roughly 12% of the population. Let's assume that 12% of Jonah's column are black; then of course, the great majority of people discussing his column will be...ta-da....WHITE!

Whatever color you are (& really, who gives a d...n) get a grip on your gray matter.

Oops, my error...
Of course I meant, 12% of the readers of Jonah's column.

Ok, Ok....it's 4:45 in the a.m., gimme a break.

Holder is a racist
Eric Holder, like the entire AA studies faculty at Duke University, is a racist. So are most MSM outlets, who decided, based upon race, that three young men were guilty of rape, based upon a delusional, drug-addicted hooker's 20 versions of testimony, which included such miraculous feats as levitation.

NCCU students and Durham citizens alike - as well as several Duke professors - declared that it didn't matter if the students were guilty or not: it was a matter of redressing past wrongs. So, in other words, the white boys had to be lynched.

Holder, a coward, didn't lift a finger to help those young men. Obama did - but the thoroughly execrable Senator Dole was too busy hosting her tea parties to pay even the slightest big of attention. Unfortunately, this was probably the only time Obama has been right about anything, as he called for a federal investigation. The feds were stymied by BoT President, former Treasury official Bob Steel, and nothing happened, even though a lot of people in Durham's police dept and prosecutors office deserved long prison terms.

Wanna talk about race, Eric? You coward. Start here.

Selah- Where In The World Has Eric Been?
You asked:

"where has Holder been until now?
Until Holder called us all cowards, I wonder where he was in presenting dialog to help the situation he now deems our fault?"

After the Clinton Administration ended, Holder went to work in private practice at a law firm that represented the Gitmo detainees.

Their quest was to make sure that the Gitmo-Gotmore, including Constitutional rights, the best healthcare, no separation between the "wall" between church and state, etc. Some of these Gitmo-Gotmores planned 9/11 and the USS Cole bombing.

So, Holder and his firm were more interested in getting "rights" for detainees than they were for insuring that blacks were not killed by other blacks.

It's all about culture and not race!
As I was discussing the AG's comments with a friend it immediately became aware to me that race doesn't play a role in how we deal with others. What plays the biggest role is we judge people by the content of their character and also still do have cultural differences in our country.

And there is nothing wrong with that!

We do not as people to leave behind their culture when they come to The U.S.A, in fact we know they will bring their culture with them. The many different cultures that make up America as a whole cause us to be a strong vibrant country of diverse peoples that have one very strong thing in common. That thing that makes us strong is that America is the best country on the face of the earth!

God Bless America!

Cowardly List
I guess Mr. Holder will instruct his camp dogs to begin the Cowardly List. Seems putting citizens in a box or on a list is the only way the government can tell who is who. In my view government do gooders want us to hug and make up at every opportunity. All the while separating us with all sort of special cultural events and celebration weeks. If we are all Americans the government should promote the All American theme, not as a melting pot, but more like alphabet soup, each of us special and unique.

REAL HISTORY
The National Democratic Convention met at Baltimore in June of 1852. Among its Resolutions were the following: “All efforts of Abolitionists or others made to induce Congress to interfere with questions of Slavery” will “endanger the stability and permanency of the Union.”…”Resolved, That the Democratic party will resist all attempts at renewing, in Congress or out of it, the agitation of the Slavery question, under whatever shape or color the attempt may be made.”

At the Democratic National Convention in Cincinnati in June, 1856, the party reiterated its repudiation of all attempts by Abolitionists to interfere with the institution of Slavery, which, if not stopped, “must end in civil war and disunion.”

Meanwhile, agitation for secession on the part of the South had been growing to the point where most Southerners saw no solution to the problem other than seceding from the United States.

Senator Iveson of Georgia, in an 1860 address to his constituents said: “Slavery must be maintained in the Union if possible, out of it if necessary; peaceably if we may, forcibly if we must.”

In other words, the South had decided that it preferred preserving the institution of slavery over preserving the United States of America. Slavery was more important than Union.
important than Union.

REAL HISTORY, Part 2
The election of Democrat James Buchanan as President in 1857 gave Southerners the opportunity to plan secession with the help of Buchanan’s Southern members of his Cabinet. For example, John B. Floyd, Secretary of War, managed to transfer huge amounts of military stores and equipment from northern armories to Southern ones in preparation for war. As a result the North was rendered defenseless.
When the Republican Party nominated Abraham Lincoln for President in 1860, the slave states decided that the time was ripe for quitting the Union, setting the stage for Civil War. The Southern Democrats, so totally imbued with their own power to destroy the Union, did not know what they were up against in the person of Abraham Lincoln. By 1865, by the time the Civil War was over, the South lay in ruins and slavery had been abolished. The Democratic Party then became the part of racial segregation and Jim Crow.

"Douglas is a classic victim monger who attempts to breed racism into any conversation."

Dr Doogie Derryberry is the worst kind of liberal. He's attributing to everyone else that from which he exempts himself. His condescending finger-pointing is laughable, as is his sophistic conclusions. Of course HE'S not a racist - just everyone else.

Like the first poster, DerKrieger, I really don't give a $hit what blacks in general think or who they want to lay the blame upon for their poverty, crime, rampant illigitimacy, violence and innate sense of victimhood. I cared in the late 50's and early 60's when I was active in the civil rights movement, but after forty years of being labeled a racist by halfwits like Dr Dingleberry and his ilk, my attitude has changed to "kiss my a$$."

I have only one black friend. He's a REAL African-American - a legal immigrant from Kenya and a naturalized citizen who I met through our local rugby team. We don't discuss race. Neither of us consider it important, any more than my Asian, Hispanic or Jewish friends. I enjoy George's company and he enjoys mine.

If that be racism, so be it. I don't care.

Race discussion
I had my discussion on race back in the 60's. A buddy of my husbands was eating dinner with us and I asked ( the social situation was kinda hot right then ) which he preferred, Black, colored or Negro. this was a really the topic in race relations. No one had yet come up with AA. This lovely man looked me in the eye and said I prefer LLoyd. ( his name) End of race discussion. I learned my lesson and I have lived with it ever since. We won't have grown up in race until everyone is LLoyd.

History, Part 3

The beloved Woodrow Wilson was a notorious racist, having signed the first executive order creating “separate but equal” facilities in the federal movement. His favorite movie was “Birth of a Nation” in which African Americans were mocked and the Klan celebrated.

LBJ, who, though he signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, used his position as Majority Leader of the Senate in the 1950’s to block civil rights legislation. LBJ also enthusiastically supported, along with John Connally another Democrat, the “Massive Resistance” of the South, the white Democrats attempt to stop integration.

Al Gore’s father, Senator Albert Gore of Tennessee, opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and was himself a notorious bigot

Meanwhile, Richard Nixon ordered the Justice Department to use forced busing to achieve integration in the public schools, over the objections of a Democratic aide, Patrick Moynihan, who urged a policy of “benign neglect” when it came to blacks.

The worst race riots over busing were in the progressive, enlightened know-it-all-city of Boston.

And Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. always said Chicago was the most racist city in America, run of course by a Democrat, Richard Dailey. The great Jackie Robinson campaigned for the Republican Nixon in 1960.

What he's really saying...
What Holder is really saying is if you white people don't give us race hustlers everything we want then you're bigots. Unfortunately, there are too many guilty white liberals in this country that are willing to pay the hustlers' price.

DEMOCRATIC HISTORY, Part 4

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

Thomas Woodrow Wilson (December 28, 1856—February 3, 1924),[1] was the twenty-eighth President of the United States. A leading intellectual of the Progressive Era, he served as President of Princeton University and then became the Governor of New Jersey in 1910. With Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft dividing the Republican Party vote, Wilson was elected President as a Democrat in 1912.

(continued in Part 5)

Jonah swallows the whale -
and WINS! Thank God for this guy.

a Discussion?
Black folks do not want to *discuss* race. They want to scream YOUARACIST! at any White folks who dont give them everything they want, the nanosecond they want it. They do not want a discussion. They want to harangue us and watch us cower and grovel and beg for their approbation.

Sorry, Mr. Holder, you have come to the wrong door.

If Mr. Arch-Racist Holder wants to have a real discussion about race with someone who will stand up in his face and tell him what she thinks, I dare him to invite me to the Afro-American House for a talk in front of cameras and microphones. But I warn him that the first mention of his that YOUARACIST, I will get up and walk out. I figure I will be there about two minutes.

The More We Get, The More We Want
As an African-American, 42 year old male, I'm disgusted and pissed off at Eric Holder!!! I am so tired of hearing how bad our race relations are no matter what happens! We elect a black man President of the US who has never governed, managed or owned anyone or anything who can't seem to nominate anyone into his cabinet that can pay their taxes but wants to give every dollar we DON'T HAVE to people who don't pay taxes but somehow, this country is cowardly when it comes to race?! Mr. Holder, ask Barack Obama, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods, Denzel Washington, Sidney Poitier, Halle Berry, Angela Bassett and Kolbe Bryant to name a few to look at their bank accounts, the neighborhoods they live in and the people they hang around if, race relations in this country makes them uncomfortable? You greedy JERK!!!

DEMS TEACHING LESSONS, Part 5
The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

(Lucy Burns)
And by the end of the night, they were barely alive.
Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'
They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

(Dora Lewis)
They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her
head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.
Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote.

For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

(Alice Paul)
When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

see HBO's new movie 'Iron Jawed Angels.'
It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

Groupthink
Sharel has it exactly right...hooray for you Sharel. "I prefer Lloyd." How exactly perfect. Our relationships are with individuals. Period.

Dr. Douglas accuses us of covert racism...how dare he? Now we have thought police?

Holder the Cabinet race baiter
I guess we white people should be more like the rap stars that, made there opinions known during the Presidential elections. Or lets not forget Obama's pastor.
But we whites are the cowards.
You want race baiting, well Eric Holder through the first punch, but I bet it wont be the last.
Just another great Cabinet post pick from the President.

When holder says....
we need to discuss 'Race', why do I get the feeling he only means 'Blacks'? I don't think he gives two shites about hispanics, Asians, or any other minority group in America.

When the 97 percenters start breaking party ranks and following more positive role models like Michael Steele, Ken Blackwell, Condi Rice, J.C. Watts, etc. then I'll give them their due.

TEACHING LIES, Part 6
Whoopi GOldberg, on O'Reilly, recently said (not exact quote) that she's still "steamed" that Black Americans were not given the right (nationally) to vote til the 60's...

Cher recently said she couldn't understand how anyone could be a republican...

quite frankly, my dears, I don't understand how you could abide by what the democrats did and continue to do...

by fighting for welfare and not personal responsibility to keep people economically enslaved

by not teaching the truth and keeping people historically in the dark

by not teaching the truth

Conversation About Race?
I talk about race(s) all the time -- in other venues. But I'll give it a shot here.

I think Nascar is the most interesting and competitive of motorsports.

I'm rooting for Kyle Busch and Mark Martin for the Sprint Cup Championship this year, Kyle Busch for the Nationwide Series Championship, and Ron Hornaday, Jr. for the Camping World Truck Series Championship.

Kyle Busch is my #1 driver. Go ahead and boo at him -- he runs faster when you do.

No matter how his fans try to spin it, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has to bear the responsibility for his boneheaded, temper-snit that took out all the best cars in the Daytona 500 this past Sunday.

Oh, wait, you meant level of skin pigmentation. I did have that sort of conversation once, with my step-sister and nephew -- who are black-hispanic. She thinks my soft, flexible fingernails are sort of weird. I joked that I was probably the whitest white person they'd ever meet and it must be nice to go outdoors in midsummer without getting a painful sunburn.

It was incidental though -- we were talking about how nice it was that her mom and my dad took all the grandchildren to the amusement park.

Challenge to Dr. Douglas
have you read my posts...or did you just post and run...

if so, I would like you to debate, and contradict, my 5 History Lessons, not taught by you, for sure, or in any history class I ever took

This White Woman Has Had Enough
Because I am a Public Relations rep, I spend much time on the road and am always in a hurry to make the next appointment. One day, while sitting at a red light, a black woman lowered her car window and asked me why white women are always in a hurry during the work day. My response was "I have to feed your kids AND my kids." She had no clue what I meant, so I concluded that welfare people have no idea where their HUD money, food stamps, free food at public schools, free heat, and welfare checks come from. Can someone please educate the black community that they are taking away from folks who are attempting to be successful while being bogged down with other people's baggage? There is no race talk for me,,,,because I have a lot of nasty things to say to those who have their sticky fingers in MY paycheck.

Dr Douglas,
I hold conversations about race with a black person all the time -- he's a Nascar fan too.

Grouping people into formless masses based on something as trivial as the melanin content of their skins is ridiculous.

Such groups are meaningless. What matters is INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE.

For example, in the far more legitimate grouping of people who have the right to put "Dr." in front of their name, I'll pay careful attention to the opinions of Dr. Thomas Sowell and little to no attention to your opinions.

Race, other than sporting competitions, is irrelevant.

The real Cowards
Mr. Holder when you and your coward friends sit down and have discussions about race with Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Clarence Thomas, ... etc without calling them UNCLE TOMS then maybe you can gain some respect on this topic. Until then please just keep quiet and find some more terriorists to pardon.

chimps & space people
anyone who thinks a chimp or some babbling long eared space character from a star wars movie looks like them must have a very low esteem of themselves or they are acting like a 4 year old trying to get attention by kicking & screaming look at me.I'm not sure which one applies.

What they want is reparations
All of this is leading up to wealth transfer. They want reparations. Excuse me, but a, I have not engaged in unfairly discriminatory conduct, b, my ancestors were not slave owners, c, I didn't benefit from slave ownership, in that all of my grandparents were dirt poor. My husband has a response to this, but it's not for mixed company.

My conversation
YO bro! If your brother killed my brother or if my brother killed your brother, would either of us be entitled to redress from the other? Even though we would both have been greatly harmed, neither of us could reasonably make a claim for restitution from the other. Now, consider slavery. Blacks and white liberals seem to think that white people living today are somehow guilty for the evil institution of slavery. And since we are guilty, we must somehow owe repreations to repare the damages. But if neither of us would be liable to the other if one of our brothers killed the other, how in God's name can I be liable for crime over 150 years old based on nothing more than the color of my skin? This to me is a nonsesense argument based more on the hope of getting something for nothing than it is a legitimate grievance.

The evil oppressive white man has kept the black man down. This is another attitude that drives me crazy. Sociologists measure rates of behavior in society. Their data show that rates of success in the U.S. socity by blacks has changed significantly by time. Are you going to claim that it is because the evil oppressive white man varied over time in his evil oppressiveness? Maybe it is more plausiable that the black family structure and values have changed over time and that-more than the evil oppressive white man-better explains the disparity.

But none of this matters. We have to keep whites feeling vaguely guilty if we are ever getting our repriations. We do this by having white kids write letters of apology to black kids for slavery in our schools. We do this by giving race hucksters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson some credibility in the media. And we elect blacks to congress and the presidency who think this way.

Well bro, if you want to be embarrased, present your racial grievance to me. Either way, first drink is on me.

The Dr. Douglas PSA
Many of you have done Dr. D. the courtesy of writing thoughtful responses to his posts. The problem is the man is utterly unworthy of your time, even more so than any other leftist on TH.

Below is why:

Dr. Douglas once posted that his own university, Oregon State, was too poor to hire teaching assistants. In fact, as I learned in 5 minutes on the OSU website, OSU does indeed hire TAs. They also recognize and negotiate with the TAs collective bargaining unit. And OSU has a special award to recognize excellence among TAs.

I just want to remind everyone who'd done Dr. D the courtesy of responding to him that the man is either a hopeless ignoramus, a pathological liar, an utter fool, or some combination of all 3.

The preceding two paragraphs were a Public Service Announcement from Doc Liberty. As always, we thank you for your support.

maybe someone can help?
If black people check the block on many forms african-american why don't white people have a european-american block to check instead of white?Never understood this logic?

P.S.
"Sometimes the best thing to do is let someone fail & learn on their own. The risk of failure is a great teacher, conscience, & cleanser of ideas and approaches." author unknown

which is not what this president wants to do, which is not what he grew up learning, which is not the circles of friends, acquaintances he chose, which is not what his politcal or personal idealogy is, which is not what he chose to do when he became a "community organizer and "advocated" for the "oppressed," which is not what his policies are going to be...which is why he chose the cabinet members he did.

forgot to add:

As his policies indenture the rest of us,
I wonder if Obama will demand an apology from his own party.

an aside, many years ago on the NYC subway, as the crowds pushed/shoved thru the doors to get to the seats, I managed to nab one (I attribute that to being younger,slimmer)...as I sat there being glowered at, the standing woman called me a honky....I replied that she must be color blind...as I'm yellow (as an aside, she was black)....she had no response, possibly I confused her as I'm of mixed heritage...my mother was quite often mistaken for the mediteranian type for her dark skin, curly thick hair though she was part asian (eyes, broad cheekbones), but was classified caucasian.

Doc Liberty
Thanks for the info. As a former Duck, we know how to correctly view and interpret the swill put forth by a Beaver. It's not pretty.

Kind Regards

Goldberg an obvious racists

Only white people can be racists. It is therefore impossible for Holder to be, so Goldberg obviously is.

Yeah, the reaction to that Post comic with the dead monkey not writing the next stimulus bill IMMEDIATELY has me scratching my head and wondering what is going on here? The president neither wrote the bill, read the bill, nor is he anywhere close to being a chimp, so you gotta wonder how some people made the racial leap?

And since this last election CLEARLY and MATHMATICALLY shows the majority of American voters are not racists because if they were, he wouldn't be president. Holder wouldn't be AG.

Now you have to ask, what do these people boycotting the Post REALLY want? Of course, THAT has racial overtones in the question, so obviously it can not be asked in politically correct places.

Is Holder serious????
I find it astonishing that this man, appointed attorney general no less, serving under a Black president, would make such a nonsensical comment. The truth is that we seem to talk about nothing but race, and frankly it is getting tiresome. Especially when it is so one sided.

When according to blacks, all whites because they are part of "the power structure"(which is also nonsense as most whites are not), have an automatic advantage.
Blacks also claim that they can NOT be racist, another crock. Whites opinions or arguments seem to fall on deaf ears if they don't follow the PC line in agreeing that basically nothing has changed.

40 years of affirmative action, set asides, the progress of blacks in almost every aspect of American life seems to mean nothing to the perennial race baiters whom have created a nice little cottage industry for themselves.
Bill Cosby and his ilk are condemned for speaking truth. The rest of the work to be done is within the Black community itsef.

Getting a hold on hugely disproportionate single parent households and absent fathers. The hip hop culture that eschews education, proper dress and speech as "acting White".
Any Black with initiative and discipline has as much chance as being successful as any other American.

Stop blaming whites that are several generations removed from slavery and oppression for the problems inherent in the Black community. How is that for dialogue?

ha
Maybe we can just call him triple D.

Drive-by Dr. Douglas or just plain triple dumb.
:-)

Epic 'Conversation' Involves All of Us
Com'on, Eric, this "conversation" is being carried out on the highest level, the President's office. One of the cliches about blacks is that many of them are quite ignorant, rather because of their lack of education and/or their culture.

Now, unfortunately, we are seeing that cliche being tested at the highest level. Unfortunately, if the cliche is proven true as President Obama's initial responses to an economic crisis would indicate then not just he and his black brothers and sisters will suffer but we in the U.S. as well as the rest of the world will rue the last election.

Liberals and black Americans put all their money on one number--the Commander-in-Chief. Whether he, or his liberal supporters, like it or not, the "conversation" is being monitored at the highest level and so far it seems this is one black leader who is not ready for prime time.

President Obama is on the cusp. Does he have the intelligence and judgment to lead our nation in a time of great peril and economic decline or is he fatally hamstrung by the myths and illusions of black and liberal mythologies?

This is the height of hypocrisy
For over forty years now the left has been promoting every manner of policy, program, and coercion at it's command to silence racial discussion. White members of society are not free to discuss race. Rev. Wright can say what he thinks about white people but he's not called a racist.

The culture of political correctness has fostered an entitlement mentality in a group that now feels that they are off limits to criticism.

This was a foolish statement which only serves to raise the suspicion that Mr. Holder is the black Atty General and not the U.S. Atty General.

It doesn't take long for people to figure out where the advantages are. Larry King says his grandson wants to be black! Could it be that the kid has figure out that it's a better deal?

ha
Thank you for your posts -- I wonder why they don't teach that in history classes?

I am sick to death of some black people in this country and their self-appointed spokesmen playing victims and acting as if everyone else throughout history had such a good time.

I'm al for reparations but I believe they should be global -- meaning Mongolia a very poor country is going to owe a lot of money. And we won't even discuss Arabs and Africans.

I think what angers me most is slavery is still occurring in Africa but black leaders in this country do not seem to care. And though I am not claiming victimhood being a woman has always been the worst thing to be throughout human history in every country.

Examples: Being a black woman in slavery in America far worse than being a black man. Hell being a white woman in the 1800's wasn't that great we were chattel husbands and fathers could beat and kil us at their women. Women in India, Africa, South America, and the middle east still live like that.

So excuse me if I'm just not that concerned about what happened to your ancestors over 150 years ago. Most groups have at some point been enslaved, abused, persecuted -- your suffering does not make you more worthy than anyone else and no one owes you anything.

Dr. Dougie Derryberry is proof of one thing. It apparently doesn't take much in the way of intellect to earn a phd in psychology.

Ancient Racism
"Ebony" magazine editor Lerone Bennett, Jr., harshly criticized Lincoln in his book,"Forced into Glory:Abraham Lincoln's WHITE DREAM, because of Lincoln's lifelong advocacy of "colonization". He recommended deporting black people to some other country-Africa, Haiti, Central America - anywhere outside the United States. I am white, but I agree with Bennett. Racism was very prevalent in the 1860's.

Obama's Harvard Education?
HARVARD MAGAZINE
Sept/Oct 2002

"The good news is that there are now a host of writers and a growing number of courses and workshops designed to enlighten white people as to the real benefits and the great cost of their property in whiteness," writes former Harvard Law School professor Derrick Bell
.............
Neither parents, trustees, alumni, nor the public are aware of the anti-white propaganda that masquerades as education. When someone who is aware tells them, they think the person is exaggerating in order to make a point.

Now comes Harvard educated Noel Ignatiev, an academic at Harvard’s W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African-American Research. Dr. Ignatiev is the founder of a journal, Race Traitor, which has as its motto, “treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity.”

The journal’s purpose is “to abolish the white race.” Dr. Ignatiev does not believe his agenda is controversial. He writes:
“The goal of abolishing the white race is on its face so desirable that some may find it hard to believe that it could incur any opposition other than from committed white supremacists.” Thus does he put whites on notice. If they oppose their abolition, they are “white supremacists.”

According to Dr. Ignatiev,
“The key to solving the social problems of our age is to abolish the white race.”
“Make no mistake about it,” he says,
“we intend to keep bashing the dead white males, and the live ones, and the females too, until the social construct known as ‘the white race’ is destroyed--not ‘deconstructed’ but destroyed.”

Where did he get this view? His only education was at Harvard where he received two graduate degrees.

Holder betrays Obama's promise
Obama won by promising us a post-racial america and by refusing to engage in race-baiting. And we're not a month into his administration, and what do we get? A mild form of race-baiting, and VERY un-Obama-like rudeness from Holder.

Goldberg is spot on. We're OBSESSED by race in this country and the last thing we need is to spend more time talking about it. And why are we hesitant to talk about it? Think it might be because the minute the subject comes up someone in the room goes beserk? Anyone remember those DC townhalls they tried to have in the 90s where the audience virtually stormed the stage in rage?

And finally, lets decipher the Holden code here. What Holden is really saying is we need to have a 24/7 dialouge where whites acknowledge their evil and re-pledge their endless support for Affirmative Action and other set-aside programs for blacks. That's what Holder REALLY means.

Obama upset at Holder's comments
I'm sure Obama and the dems are more upset over Holder's comments than anyone. Obama's skin color is what got him elected! Not that McCain could have beat him, but the cowardly press gave him a free pass from scrutiny during the primary against Hillary. And many cowardly lighter skin Americans didn't want to be seen as racist so they voted for him. We will know racism is really on it's way out when you can criticize someone's opinion without being afraid because his skin is a different shade than yours. Until then, the democrats will continue to ride the wave of racism, even if that wave is made up of the hopes and dreams of dark skin Americans. We're talking skin color, guys. Just like hair color.

Lulu
If you would only take a little trip to your library and check out a history book, you would change your opinion. As late as 1968 Blacks were still being lynched.

"Between 1882 (when reliable statistics were first collected) and 1968 (when the classic forms of lynching had disappeared), 4,743 persons died of lynching, 3,446 of them black men and women. Mississippi (539 black victims, 42 white) led this grim parade of death, followed by Georgia (492, 39), Texas (352, 141), Louisiana (335, 56), and Alabama (299, 48). From 1882 to 1901, the annual number nationally usually exceeded 100; 1892 had a record 230 deaths (161 black, 69 white). Although lynchings declined somewhat in the twentieth century, there were still 97 in 1908 (89 black, 8 white), 83 in the racially troubled postwar year of 1919 (76, 7, plus some 25 race riots), 30 in 1926 (23, 7), and 28 in 1933 (24, 4).

Statistics do not tell the entire story, however. These were recorded lynchings; others were never reported beyond the community involved. Furthermore, mobs used especially sadistic tactics when blacks were the prime targets. By the 1890s lynchers increasingly employed burning, torture, and dismemberment to prolong suffering and excite a "festive atmosphere" among the killers and onlookers. White families brought small children to watch, newspapers sometimes carried advance notices, railroad agents sold excursion tickets to announced lynching sites, and mobs cut off black victims' fingers, toes, ears, or genitalia as souvenirs. Nor was it necessarily the handiwork of a local rabble; not infrequently, the mob was encouraged or led by people prominent in the area's political and business circles. Lynching had become a ritual of interracial social control and recreation rather than simply a punishment for crime."

AG HOLDER SPEECH
Arnold Atahlert said, "Truth is, the liberals are worse because their insulting paternalism–without us non-whites would be totally helpless–is racism covered with a patina of self-righteousness. At least overt racists are up front with their prejudice". http://politicalmavens.com/index.php/2008/02/23/a-...

COCOONS

The AG, Eric Holder said, "Even when people mix at the workplace or after work social events, Holder argued, many Americans in their free time are still segregated inside what he called "race-protected cocoons."

This is the only statement that made any sense whatsoever! However, the AG is calling all in the military cowards! That does NOT make any sense.

There is nothing wrong with that! We have different life styles, languages and cultures!
YOU, nor anyone else can force people to associate with one another.

After spending 30 years in the military and stationed round the world I can testify that personnel of different races do form into "race-protected cocoons" when they are on liberty and in the messhalls.

There are some in the military of all races who have the "COURAGE" to go on liberty and dine together...because they are pals!

However, ALL of us are ALWAYS together on the battlefield bleeding and dying for our country!

While I have 'FREEDOM of SPEECH' I will tell you the MAIN REASON the blacks AND whites in America are angry is your 'stinking thinking' that welfare will solve the problem of poor, uneducated minorities who depend on the government for everything.

You and president Obama are the MAN now! Why do you not force the uneducated to get an education so they can become productive citizens instead of living on the dole forever. This sir, is the main reason!

Taft @ 8:52
You place some quotes around some of the words you put forth in paragraphs 2 and 3. Could you please pass on who/what you were quoting?

Regards

After the election of Obambi
I know fewer "BLACK folks" whom I like, much less admire, in D.C. If this election has done anything, it's made "race relations" worse ...
and if Holder wants better race relations, get rid of the "BLACK CAUCUS" or start the "WHITE CAUCUS" to go with the "HISPANIC CAUCUS" and shut Michelle spoiled brat Obama up!

Holder, carrying the torch
Holder is a racist, race baiting whites. He is the keeper of the flame, see. Because his ilk cannot, by any means, allow Americans or those abroad, to stand down from those things they allege separate us -- via the obvious result via our democracy known as the election of Barack Obama. And yes, with a Hussein, for good measure.

Nope, keep fanning the alleged flames of hatred, divide us. Divide and conquer us. Otherwise, the corporation that provides Al Sharpton Brioni suits and Big Macs would have cash flow problems.

And that can't be allowed.
