Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

OK, things aren't going well. Good people are losing their jobs. Every day the deficit is looking more and more like the Great Pit of Carkoon, which, as we all remember, was that giant hole with a ravenous monster inside it that ate Boba Fett in "Return of the Jedi." "In its belly," quoth C-3PO, "you will find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a thousand years." In this case, pain and suffering will inevitably take the form of inflation of Zimbabwean proportions and proctologically intrusive taxes that will make every April 15th seem like a thousand years.

Our elected representatives in Washington sold the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009" as a stimulant for the economy, but it is, in fact, Viagra for the leviathan state. The legislation effectively repeals welfare reform, the single most successful domestic policy of the 1990s. I must have been in the bathroom during that debate.

It's no wonder lovers of limited government and fetishists for free markets are moping like dogs whose food bowls have been moved. Alan Greenspan has repudiated capitalism. George Bush paid for Barack Obama's expansion of government with the proceeds from a fire sale on his last remaining free-market principles. Not only are we nationalizing the banks, but the legislators overseeing the banking industry regulate about as well as I play the left-handed harpsichord. Christopher Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, who got a sweetheart mortgage from Countrywide and carried water for Fannie Mae like Gunga Din, should be testifying before his own committee in an orange jumpsuit in exchange for early release. Instead, he's spewing righteous indignation about the malfeasance of the people who used to buy him lunch.

Meanwhile, a bunch of banking CEOs appeared before the House Financial Services Committee this week. Don't get me wrong: These executives should be holding cardboard signs on the side of the road these days ("Will Float Derivatives for Food"), but they at least know what they're talking about. One congressman after another berated the CEOs for making bad loans and having shaky balance sheets. Fair enough. But they also berated them for not using bailout money to make more bad loans, which would keep their balance sheets shaking like Keith Richards at a detox spa.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who last May vowed to nationalize the oil industry if it didn't cut gas prices, spent her interrogation time sounding like the sort of person who waits in line at the DMV while having a conversation with her handbag, only to finally ask the clerk why he's wasting her time. The Atlantic's Megan McArdle writes that watching Waters interrogate the CEOs was "like watching your crazy aunt challenge your boyfriend to prove that fairies aren't real."

One of the great things about capitalism is that, unlike socialism or, say, Bobby Knight, it can deal with failure. In fact, capitalism needs failure. Joseph Schumpeter called this "creative destruction." Your grandmother called it "making lemonade out of lemons." The beauty of free markets is that firms learn from their mistakes or they lose money, shrink and then go out of business. Governments, meanwhile, grow from their mistakes and learn to make money from them.

Under normal circumstances, the financial inferno would cause a lot of pain, but it would also burn away a lot of deadwood. The strongest firms would survive, and newer, healthier businesses would sprout from the ashes. Plummeting housing prices would make homes affordable for first-time buyers again, particularly those with good credit who live within their means.

Sure, we would still have a stimulus bill, with tax cuts and infrastructure spending and, yes, silly pork projects. And that would be fine. We would even have some kind of bailout of the banking industry, which became a mess in part because people like Christopher Dodd and Maxine Waters tried to play the banker in their own personal game of Monopoly.

But that's not what we got. Instead, the old adage "Everyone's a capitalist on the way up and a socialist on the way down" is kicking in. The thing is, if you're a socialist on the way down, you were never really a capitalist on the way up. Capitalism requires putting your own capital at risk.

What we do have is a grand adhocracy where "government," aka Barack Obama, Timothy Geithner, Nancy Pelosi and a dozen others, will figure everything out as they go. Businesses will rise or fall based on their skill at kissing up to the government.

And as sure as shinola, when government fails again, we'll be told that only government can save us.

Stimulus bill
Let's give Hussein Obama pens with invisible ink when he signs this stimulus package!!!

The Times They Are A 'Changing
When all the jobs are gone and the people who have supported the deadbeats have no more to give, the takers will take to the streets.

Dear Leader then will be forced to do what he really would like to do anyway, be a 'Little Dictator'. That will be the only way to control the otherwise uncontrollable.

Depressing
A Paradox
The People scream about freedom and liberty, yet demand the State take care of them. They want freewill yet insist on being controlled. If its tyrannical, but popular it won't be considered tyrannical by people who like it.
Is the human race a lost cause?

It's Only Natural
America’s evolution from capitalism to socialist feudalism is merely a natural process. In nature, organisms are created and they adapt to changing conditions. There are no conspiracies or sinister plots here. What we are witnessing is only natural.

Self-reliant individualism and capitalism served our country well during its time. The people were suited for it. They built a strong prosperous and vibrant nation.

But no society can grow and prosper forever. There are limits. And when the limit of a species is reached, it must end so that a new one can have its chance.

We cannot blame our elected officials for the loss of our freedoms and the lowering of our horizons. The people are no longer suited for freedom. The people have devolved into ignorant mentally defective special needs adult children. You only have to look around you, watch news clips of your fellow citizens, and pay attention to grasp the reality that collectively Americans are retards who are now only able to eat and soil themselves before crying to their rulers to clean up their messes.

You do not allow such a group to operate without adult supervision. They must be controlled. They are a menace to the world.

Feudalism is the only way to govern such people. So, those that are naturally able to govern must do so and the rest must assume the role of oxen. They must bear the yoke of slavery, eat grass, and wait to be shepherded to whatever areas of the field they are prodded to by their masters. In return for their servility, they are guaranteed surplus government food, modest housing, free but marginal health care, 40-ounce malt liquors, and Monday night football. They can sit and watch TV until they die. That’s all.

This is as it should be. Any other way would invite chaos and mayhem. It is absurd to think that people who beg their leader for a kitchen of their own, free benefits and other things can be expected to make their own way in the world.

Talk Radio Is Next!!!!
Friends, how long do you think it will be before Fuehrer Obama and his Reichstag Friends in the Congress start with "talk radio" - the ONLY voice of opposition remaining in this country? The Democrats have the newspapers, where reporters get tingles up their legs when the Fuehrer speaks. The Democrats have the major networks, where there are only accolodatdes for what the Fuehrer does.

The Democrats a la Germany 1930s will insist on SMALL changes to force radio stations to remove/dilute the voice of opposition. Unlike Germany in the 1930s, we have the Internet along with pay cable and pay radio to keep the opposition informed.

If nothing else, the three traitor Republicans should be removed from the party. Had they held firm with the ENTIRE remaining Republican congresspeople and senators, Republicans would have had a voice in changing this spending bill and making it a REAL stimulus bill. I would write more but I want to plan on how to spend the $13/week I'll soon be receiving.

Robin - 2009 = 1933 Germany
You are so right! I was cognizant of the similarities of recent decades to Wiemar Germany for some time. And the left certainly was as well.

They realized all it took was an economic catalyst to stampede a nation toward the left. I am totally convinced the mortgage crisis was the planned trigger. How? One Penny Prizker, a Chicago billionaire (totally inherited and friend of Ayers and Obama) created the same bank collapse in Chicago by insisting that it create and accept worthless sub prime mortgages, circa 2001.

How could she do this? She was on the banks board. Practically everyone associated with the bank screamed that she was destroying the bank. Nevertheless, she insisted.

The bank eventually failed - seized by regulators. The fingers were all pointed at her. She settled with the feds and the depositors for $25M. But she and her leftist buddies found out how to bring down a financial institution - and how to trigger the collapse.

That's exactly what ACORN, Schumer, Paulson, Franks et al pulled off just before the last election by forcing banks and other lending institutions, all backed by Freddie and Fannie, to create a lot of worthless paper, and then call into question their financial soundness.

Who kept assuring us there was no problem at Freddie and Fannie? Who blew the first whistle on IndyMac? Who was the Bush insider (friend of Chuckie) who stampeded the country into the 'bailout'?

Answers: Franks; Schumer; Paulson

After this 'stimulus' fiasco is completed, watch them go after their opposition as the Nazis did in March 1933 to the Communists.

Expect a 'Riechstag fire' type incident that can be blamed on talk (hate radio they'll call it) and/or Rush Limbaugh.

That's what narrow minded leftist simps do: ignore and discount the value of the thought because some of the words were mispelled.

This is 1930 Redux
I have read many of the posts and can find no humor in these events. I am filled with a sense of deep impending doom. I can find no humor in any of this. I deeply fear for my job, my family, and my country.

I am vice president of a small company and I fear the worst. These people have no idea how our economy works. We have monsters in Washington with no sense of country or responsibility. I am so afraid that with Obama, Pelosi, and Reid at the helm, that all is lost.

Please someone tell me this is all a big joke and it will get better.

1933 Germany = 2009 America
What always troubled me about the Holocaust was how a free people could have elected Adolph Hitler chancellor when he made it very clear during the campaign what he planned to do. I think the answers to 1933 Germany come from 2009 America.

So many people just don’t care and are allured to charismatic personalities. As Barack Obama and the Democrats strive to make us the United Socialists of America, I wonder how many people see the parallels between the rise of Nazism in Germany and the rise of socialism in America.

Below are responses from family, friends, coworkers and neighbors who shrug me off when I talk to them about America becoming a socialist country. How easily their responses could have been the responses of average German citizens who voted for Adolph Hitler because they believed Hitler would bring dramatic change – and he did.

• "The news is so depressing. I only listen for the traffic and weather."

• "Can it be any worse than it has been for the last 8 years?"

• "Why get all worked up about politics when I'm just one person?"

• “I’m old. Most of his policies won’t even affect me.”

• “That was all campaign rhetoric. He won’t really make many big changes.”

• "Oh, come on! He just took office and you're already attacking his policies. Can't you give him a chance?"

It’s not too late to save America – YES WE CAN!

Jonah Goldberg
Correct, accurate but why doesn't aanyone listen.

WTFU
Let me add this. Our country as we know it is gone! All better WTFU right now, we had better start coming together as concerned citizens who still believe in the Constitution, otherwise we are finished as a nation.

the kept ones
"Who shall keep the keepers?"

Pelosi: Mussolini reincarnated
Is Madam Pelosi Mussolini reincarnated?

La nova duca is demonstrating she has quite the fascist streak in her. Not only does she insist on ramming down the nation's throat two humongous spending bills, the latter of which is nothing more than a fascist state establishment apparatus, but she insists that it be passed with hardly an examination and doesn't care if the opposition parties like it one whit.

Then she's off to Rome, the home of fascism itself, perhaps to pay homage to Mussolini and the spirit of death glorified in the colosseum.

What better backdrop is there for the mother of abortion and 'needs to die' evaluations - not to mention the killer of liberty and free market enterprise.

But do us a favor - quit posing yourself as a Catholic. May the Pope excommunicate you.

Arrivederci, porcine fascisti!

I'm Glad I Found It!
I was wondering what happened to my 5:38 AM post.

I try to stay on topic, but I left to get ready for work after starting this column, got some ideas while I was getting dressed about Burt Prelutsky's column "Israel is a Lamb among Wolves'. I read his just before this one. So I came back and wrote them down, in a hurry, without bothering to check which column I was really on. Thanks for your patience.

And no, I don't speak German, so I really did miscount the words. I was thinking 'History of the Jews' and wrote 'The history of the Jews'. I guess Joe Biden and I have more in common than I like to think.

The sad fact, this guy was asking Omarxist to force MC D’s to give him more benefits.

"[A]nd they think the economy is bad NOW?!"

This brings to mind one of my favorite lines from P.J. O'Rourke: "If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free."

"Maybe I won't have to imagine it, maybe I'll get to actually see them on the TV coverage of some lame 'We Demand Jobs' rally in a couple of years."

Snicker. If Jesse Jackson still has those "Jobs, Peace, and Freedom" banners he used during the Reagan years, maybe he can haul them out of his garage and start a comeback.

Ack! My German professor would cringe.
Correction! DIE Geschichte der Juden.

My favorite part of the English language: all impersonal common nouns are all neuter.

German, on the other hand, is a monstrous bear with jagged teeth and huge razor-sharp claws.

Lester Dent: William is not Biden
I realize this is totally off-topic, but I had to laugh when you tried to correct William on the word count.

Did it occur to you that the conversation between Bismarck and the young Kaiser... was in German? ("Das Geschichte der Juden")

"Foolish voters reap their reward"...

When reality hits (and they think the economy is bad NOW?!)my one perverse pleasure will be imagining the expressions on the faces of people like...

..."I'll never have to worry about buying gas or paying my mortgage" woman...

or "we need a new kitchen" woman...

...or the guy who'd worked at McDonalds for 4 1/2 years and asked Obama some totally incoherent question about "benefits..."

Maybe I won't have to imagine it, maybe I'll get to actually see them on the TV coverage of some lame "We Demand Jobs" rally in a couple of years.

william @5:38 am
Perhaps William is thinking of what how many words Bismarck needed to express his thought: the German language requires only four words.
Also, the last paragraph of William's post is germane to the column: do not trust in a phony deal for peace and prosperity.

Jerseyvet
"Foolish Voters Reap their Reward."

You do have a good point. Anyone may vote for a fool once, but only another fool reelects a fool. To err is human. To persist in error despite overwhelming evidence is stupid.

"My fellow Americans deserve the blame and let's hope they suffer under this corrupt regime even more than we non-Obamamites will suffer."

The suffering among the Messiah's disillusioned followers may be exteme. Even if the government redistributes everything that isn't nailed down, not everyone will get a new house, a new car, forgiveness of debts, free ice cream, or a no-show job with the National Leaf-Raking Administration. It would be enjoyable to watch the reaction if the country weren't headed straight down the crapper.

Best Goldberg Yet
Or at least one of the best. The voices of opposition have removed a mere $100billion from this turd. If some GOP congressmen were all as eloquent as Jonah, we might have doubled that.

Speaking Of Viagra
MEXICO CITY: Flashing a boyish grin, the silver-haired septuagenarian fidgeted nervously. His voice dropped to a whisper. A reddish hue enveloped his face. All this because he was asked how the latest social program to be offered by Mexico City's government was affecting his home life.

"Things have changed," Angel Posadas Sandoval, 74, finally confessed, not going into specifics but nonetheless making himself abundantly clear.

He was talking, however obliquely, about the free Viagra the government is giving away to poor men age 60 and above.

With midterm elections looming in July, Mayor Marcelo Ebrard has been rather creative in his attempts to make life more livable for the people of this sprawling metropolis, which finds itself clogged with traffic, overwhelmed by smog, prowled by criminals and reeling from the global financial crisis.

Stimulus and Flight 3407
For 1700 years politicians have tried to repeal the law of supply and demand in order to acquire more power. Supply and demand is as much a natural law as the law of gravity. When we have a tragedy like Flight 3407 we think about how great it would be to repeal the law of gravity without thinking about the consequences, like the loss of air water and all life on earth. But when politicians ignore the law of supply and demand they never look at the consequences which prove that it is a natural law.
Presently we have a socialist government that has removed the taxes from half the population thereby enslaving the most productive half of the population. Can anyone say Ayn Rand or "Atlas Shrugged"?
It will soon be time for a tax revolt by the productive members of our nation.

Keep it up. I am still laughing. The demarats won't be happy until they can tell us when to pee. I just do not understand my country men. Is it they just don't get it? As many here have said the price will be high.

Darwinian Explanation of Mega-Debts
Re: The Darwinian Explanation of Mega-Debts & Mega-Immigration

Particularly since during most of human history life spans were very short, there is probably little or no inherent genetic impulse to care whether or not one's grandchildren survive to adulthood, much less great-grandchildren. Countless are the times I have heard someone--usually the subject not brought up by yours truly--mention how California is descending into a Third World, poverty-stricken, multicultural, ethnic-grudge filled, (anti-white) affirmative-action anthill, only to proudly and happily conclude that they will not live long enough to see things get much worse, the implication being that they don't have to worry about it, but, more importantly, they need to try to do anything about it. Interestingly, each of these countless people, all European-Americans, seems to think such tiresomely predictable yammerings represents some profound idea uniquely created in their particularly impressive braincase, the proud idea of course being: "Screw my own grandchildren!"

Gargantua - not Leviathan
Love all the literary illusions in your article.

As a former professor of political theory, I'd like to make one modification. You refer to the overgrown state as "leviathan."

The only legitimate purpose of government in Hobbes' Leviathan was the protection of the citizenry. If we did away with all this social welfare, equality-of-outcome garbage being peddled by these Marxist leftists, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in. (The Leviathan could be a Big Brother state, too, but that's another story.)

Regarding the size of the state, I propose Gargantua instead of leviathan.

Things aren't so bad
Ever since I started taking Extenze, I haven't peed on my shoes!

Foolish Voters Reap their Reward
Let's not blame the people in the White House and Congress. Let's blame the ignorant, uneducated, emotional slob voters who put them in Washington, D.C., in the first place. As a conservative in a Democrat state I have no responsibility for those fools in Congress nor the Pied Piper in the White House. My fellow Americans deserve the blame and let's hope they suffer under this corrupt regime even more than we non-Obamamites will suffer.

Creative destruction
Let's hope that this country can deal with failure as readily as a free market can, for failure is certain. The fools in charge, Republicons and Demagogues alike, can't stop stealing and wasting other people's money. They've devoted their lives to these pursuits. They've studied and perfected them. They dream about them. Then, unfortunately, they wake up.

They're not simply dishonest, arrogant, and self-enriching. They're delusional. Example: the House submitted an $800 billion stimulus bill comprising every ridiculous idea since the Great Society. Aghast at its size and absurdity, the Senate cut it to $900 billion. Only intense public pressure and deal-making with the Three Turncoats got the thing back down to roughly $800 billion (a trillion counting interest). Still, as Schumer confirmed, they didn't have the slightest clue what all the fuss is about.

After our betters have blown through this trillion, they'll have nothing to show except the same crumbling infrastructure they started with, maybe some new HHS publications for kindergartners about safe sex and needle exchange, 50 million new ACORN-registered voters, and a pay raise for themselves. So they'll take (or print) another trillion and another and another. After all, they have to do _something_.

That would be bad enough, but we started this cycle of spending so far in debt that not even armed insurrection can pull us out. If we hanged all the miscreants tomorrow -- a pleasant fantasy, but unrealistic -- we should be stuck with paying back the Saudis and Chinese for what's already been squandered. Unborn generations of Americans will have to cede much of their earnings to clean up after this spending binge and the binges that will surely follow it. The only alternative will be to repudiate the national debt and start a global depression far worse than any ever seen or imagined.

Let's hope that something better will rise from the ruins.

The History of the Jews
There's an apocryphal story of how Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany asked Bismarck to prove the existence of God. Bismarck replied with 4 words - The history of the Jews.

The reason I call it apocryphal is because I remember reading it years ago, but I couldn't find any reference to it on the internet this morning. I did find reference to a book that I've had in my library for the last 30 years - "Jews, God, and History" by Max Dimont. After reading some of the comments about the book on Amazon, I've pulled it out of my library and put it at the top of my reading list. My wife just gave me a second book by Max Dimont - "The Amazing Adventures of the Jewish People."

Another book about the Jews that was very influential in my becoming a Christian is McCandlish Phillips - 'The Bible, The Supernatural, and the Jews'.

Amazing history, and apart from the hand of God, both in blessing and in judgment, unexplainable.

Jesus said that Jerusalem would be trodden down by the Gentiles until the time of the Gentiles was over. Paul said that when the Jews were brought back into a true relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob it would be blessing for the whole world. Romans 11:12

We're told as Christians to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, real peace, not peace purchased by some phony deal. And we do pray.

Obama -> Friend of the Communists

"I was standing on the Washington Mall on Inauguration Day, alongside nearly two million other people on Inauguration Day, and proudly watched the first African American take the oath of office in our nation’s history. That alone made the day deeply memorable, joyful, and historic. But I couldn’t help but think – and I’m sure that millions of others had the same thought – that the transfer of power from Bush to President Obama not only tore down a barrier that once was thought near impenetrable, but also signified the fading away of one era and the beginning of another.

It was hard not to think on that cold day in our nation’s capital that the worst of the past 30 years of right wing extremist rule is behind us and that an era of progressive change is within reach, no longer an idle dream.

Just look at the new lay of the land: a friend of labor and its allies sits in the White House. Larger Democratic majorities control Congress. A feeling of renewal and hope is in the air. Public opinion polls show a high favorability rating for our new President. And the labor and people’s movement that was so instrumental to the election’s outcome, after a short holiday pause, is off and running."

Viagra for the leviathan state!
That describes the so called 'stimulus' perfectly. This abysmal piece of krap has nothing to with stimulating anything but liberal fascist initiatives and patronage building. The audacity of this arrogant and naked power grab is outrageous and disgusting.

Thanks are duly owed by the fascists to RINO senators Specter, Snowe and Collins for their usefully idiotic support. We can expect them to switch parties at any time since they're no longer welcome in the GOP.

And special thanks are due GW Bush as well for getting this spending spree started, and spinning the way for the fascists to see his spending bid and doubling it.

The phrase will now become: he/she spent like a politician selling 'stimulus'.
