Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

In an attempt to dial down expectations for his administration, President-elect Barack Obama's supporters have dropped much of the "messiah" talk.

No more talk of him being The One (Oprah), or a Jedi Knight (George Lucas), or a "Lightworker" (the San Francisco Chronicle), or a "quantum leap in American consciousness" (Deepak Chopra). Instead we have more humble and circumspect conversation about the man. Now he's merely Abraham Lincoln and FDR and Martin Luther King, combined.

It's a step down from divine redeemer, but you have to start somewhere.

Newsweek, Time, the Washington Post, "60 Minutes" and, of course, The O Network (formerly known as MSNBC) have all run wild with this stuff. Depicting Obama as FDR or Lincoln has become a staple of the self-proclaimed "objective" media.

I was on Fox News the other night to throw some cold water on this Obama-as-Lincoln stuff. Alan Colmes of "Hannity & Colmes" chastised me, asking if we shouldn't give Obama "a chance to actually spread his wings and fly a little bit" before disparaging him.

Fine. I actually agree with that. Conservatives should not denounce Obama's performance before he's had a chance to, you know, perform.

But, shouldn't we also hold off on comparing the guy to FDR and Lincoln before he's done anything?

Obama hasn't even taken the oath of office yet, and it's already an unfair right-wing attack to say that Obama isn't on par with Lincoln and FDR. What's next? Will it be slander to say Obama's a carbon-based life form? Will the Secret Service investigate you if you're overheard saying you think Obama's merely "OK"?

While such sycophancy from the national press is lamentable, at this point it's hardly news.

What I find fascinating, however, is not so much the Obama hagiography, but the burning desire for another FDR or Lincoln that underlies it.

According to the various Obama-as-Lincoln narratives, including those from the president-elect himself, Obama is a new Lincoln because he is a "uniter." In several of his most famous speeches, Obama insinuates that he wants to bring the country together the way Honest Abe did. Newsweek and others tout his fondness for Doris Kearns Goodwin's book "Team of Rivals," in which Goodwin argues that Lincoln displayed his political genius by inviting adversaries into his Cabinet.

There are real problems with this model; it didn't work too well for Lincoln. Moreover, who looks at how Lincoln staffed his Cabinet as the defining feature of his presidency? Saying Obama is the next Lincoln because the two men share staffing styles is like saying George Bush is Thomas Jefferson because they both liked chicken soup. If I wear a pointy hat, can I call myself John Paul II?

Lincoln was Lincoln because he fought and won the Civil War and freed the slaves. News flash: That ain't what America is like today -- and thank God for it.

I think Lincoln was just about the greatest president in American history, but I sure don't want to need another Lincoln. Six hundred thousand Americans died at the hands of other Americans during Lincoln's presidency. Lincoln unified the country at gunpoint and curtailed civil liberties in a way that makes President Bush look like an ACLU zealot. The partisan success of the GOP in the aftermath of the war Obama thinks so highly of was forged in blood.

Likewise with FDR. Listening to liberals gush over a "new New Deal" and Obama's call for us to emulate the "Greatest Generation," you'd think they want another Great Depression and World War.

Indeed, liberals have long idolized the 1930s as a decade of great unity. It wasn't. The 1930s was a miserable decade of poverty, domestic unrest, labor strife, violations of civil liberties and widespread fear. If liberals really loved peace, prosperity and national cohesion, they'd remember the 1920s or 1950s more fondly. And yet they don't. Why? Because liberals didn't get to impose their schemes and dreams on the country in those decades. Behind all the talk of unity and bipartisanship and shared sacrifice lies an uglier ambition: power. The audacity of hope behind all this Lincoln-FDR-Obama blather is the dream of riding roughshod over the opposition, of having their way, of total victory.

The Chinese curse and cliche "may you live in interesting times" is on point. Liberals (and a few conservatives as well, alas) seem desperate to live in interesting times. Not me.

You know what I hope? I hope Obama is another Coolidge or Eisenhower. But I'm not holding my breath.

Lincoln and forgotten history...
Yes, Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, but it was not born of his love of freedom for slaves. Pundits almost always and universally overlook the fact that he originally, and for a long time, wanted to send the slaves to colonize Liberia.

Lincoln was a great President in many ways, but rewriting history does not portray honestly (Abe) Pres. Lincoln.

STOP IT!
Stop it with the "Lincoln freed the slaves" BS.
My God. Do you people think what you learned in the 3rd grade was the gospel? Did you read anything else about "Honest Abe"? His Emancipation Proc.freed the slaves only in areas that were rebelling. Not the 4 Union slave states nor areas in the South that were Union occupied.(New Orleans,Tidewater Va,etc)Hell, West Virginia came into the Union 6 months after the proclamation as a SLAVE STATE!Abe died in April of '65. Slavery was alive and well in the good ol' USA. The 13th Amm.came 8 months after Abe's death.Come on. Can everybody be this stupid? Abe got shot and the media(not the 300 Northern papers he closed)started treating him like...well,like the media treats Obama. Now ya got it?

Either you have the genius of Einstein or you are so dumb it is mindboggling... And, yes, your grammar sucks, but we won't go there.

As for 2012, we will see because I don't think Obama is a genius. Apart from bringing back the Clinton retreads, he has done NOTHING in his professional life that warrants the job he has now been given and the former should give even Obama-lovers pause.

We may be out of office for the present, but we'll see how long that lasts. You might ask the people of Michigan how they are loving their
Democratic leadership. You can even check out the Democratically-controlled Congress APPROVAL ratings, which are much lower that those of GWB.

If we are out to pasture for decades, count me as one of the members of the Daughters of the Second (bloodless) Revolution or Civil War.

For all of those, who blame Republicans for Obama-mania, have you been sharing a cave with al Qaeda for the last 2 years? Just pick up a MSM magazine, order one of the media's DVDs, or ask Chris Matthews if you can share that sensation going up his legs. I suppose that it was the "vast right wing" conspiracy that compared Obama to Lincoln and FDR. Even though I disagree with Obama on almost everything, I sure hope that he is neither, i.e. killed or autocratic (trying to stack the USSCT is a good example, as IN prolonging the Great Depression).

Just like Democrats hated Bush being elected, there is a sizeable and VOCAL opposition to The Messiah. And, while we will likely refrain from rioting, WE WILL BE JUST AS LOUD!

As for education, it would do YOU some good to acquire a lot more than you possess AND a Webster's wouldn't hurt either.

Would you mind defining "consquirts"?

Barack Obama the next FDR or Honest Abe? Laugh out loud. the lyric of the song reads "Talk is cheap when you can't keep your promise." from the WWF Wrestlers Album If You Only Knew. I agree Barack Obama being the next Eisenhower or Coolidge would be great in a perfect world.

He will come down hard, because Obama has no foundation or self reliance to fall back on.

BUT, we'll have enabler Hillary and cigar smoking Billy to take care of us.

What a crew that will be rowing this boat!

Are you one of the front men on Obama's "uniter" team??? Nothing like starting out with calling people names. What you are state is only wishful thinking. You wish that were the case. You slander people because you disagree with them and have no logical arguments. Yours is a classical liberal tactic...just start off sliming people before any legitimate debate begins and therefore you will be able to avoid all legitimate forms of debate or reason. It's a cowards way out! That's why liberals can never hold on to power without widespread cheating. Your policies are like your rhetoric, EMPTY!

Goodness gracious ............
Goodness gracious people! Obama has done nothing of any note in his whole life as far as being reported by the news media - except being elected President. And I congratulate him on this!

However, no one can tell if he will be a good, bad, or average President until he serves as President. So how in the heck can anyone possibly evaluate his Presidency before it occurs?

Talk about stupidity!!!!!!

wrightsrong52
Yes, the Revolutionary War, the ware of 1812, the Civil War. How about the wars of Democratic presidents--Korea, Viet Nam, Bosnia?

By the way, Congress creates the budget.

wrightswrongly
The economy has its' roots in Barney Frank, Chriss Dodd, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton with their talk about "fairness" and "affordable housing".

The War in Iraq is over and was over in less than 3 months. The occupation is messy.

No democrat has ever balanced a budget. Clinton had a projected surplus on the backs of unwise military cuts, but it was never realized.

Bush, Graham, McCain and the other adults in Wasshington called for more regulation of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac but were obstructed by democrats.

You could look it up, but won't.

And it is not rhetoric. I see it all the time and almost every car heading in to get foodstamps renewed sports an Obama sticker.

Deal with it. You democrats own it.

Hardly Thinking
No handouts here! That consquirt talk for any one who votes democrat. That's just hogwash rhetoric.
And what did you cons do?
Ever balance a budget?
Do you finish the wars you start?
Ever think regulation was a good idea?
Oh thanks for this economy too!

wrightswrongly
With the democrat obstructionism and partisan politics, it's amazing we cons got anything done at all.

Go back to whining for more government handouts.

WASHINGTON WAS THE GREATEST
Washington rejected the notion that he should be King when he easily could have been, and stayed true to the ideals of the independent republic he fought to establish. Many of the protocols and functions of the Presidency still exist today.

He never gave up, even in the darkest days at Valley Forge. He often fought on the front lines with his men.

In older age, he recognized the evils of slavery and freed all of his slaves in his will, granting the oldest and the youngest money for support.

Truly he was "The Father of Our Country," the best of all to follow him.

The solid Obama win is most likely a RESULT of Republicans having the wheel for 28 of the last 40 years. Enjoy the wilderness my consquirt pal! Your NOT coming back in 2012!

No we don't think you're ignorant, just long past time to go out to pasture.

Your job as consquirts is to continue living in the past. You need to educate yourself. No one has anything else to learn from you. We already know you can't run things. You just complain about EVERYONE else. That's why you lost BIG, Toddler.

THE GREATEST PRESIDENT?
I think not!

Lincoln, like Bush, was vilified throughout much of his presidency by an adversarial press.

What's truly amazing is the attempt to compare BO with two Republicans (MLK and Lincoln).

All this adoration will be gone
in a very short time.

In the absence of that, however...
I will give him help and respect commensurate with that afforded President Bush these last eight years. That is to say, I personally will be doing everything I can to see to it that he cannot succeed.

I hope the Kenyan proves to be a monumental failure. I hope he crashes and burns. I hope that others come to see him as I do, as he truly is, and that they rise up and run him out of town with torches and pitchforks.

I want the people who greet him now with elation to be weeping and gnashing their teeth. I want them to feel the ruin in their very bones.

It's the only way they'll ever learn.

===

I want Obama to be treated like Lincoln
I truly want that.

If I could be granted one wish, it would be that The One would be treated EXACTLY like Lincoln.

Because that would mean that my state would exercise its inviolate right to secede, and that others would follow us out.

Lincoln was a uniter only in the sense that much (pointedly, not all) of the North rallied behind him to reunite the federation at gunpoint. He was, in fact, the greatest divider this republic has ever seen.

And I say, as I have often said, let us again divide. We won't be ruled by you, and you don't want us around getting in the way of your Grand Plan anyway.

Appoint the commissioners. Divide the chattels.

Two People. Two Countries. Today.

===

Like Lincoln??
I've already expressed my opinion as to Mr O"s similarity to FDR ON ANOTHER THREAD.. I DON'T like Obama, didn't vote for him but hope and pray he can/will at least try to do a decent job for 4 yrs..Let's all give this "Great One" fair chance, OK??
I hope Chris Matthews is up to the job of ensuring the Prez's sucess!! He might ask Zel Miller to help him?? Remember that little episode a few years ago?? CHEERS

Peace to all.
Didn't Obama claim that he will stop the rise of the oceans, heal our broken relations with all the world, declare peace in Iraq, stop CO2 emissions, create millions of "green" jobs, restore our tattered constitution, make healthcare a birthright, bankrupt the evil coal companies, clean the air, feed the hungry, share the wealth, etc.

Indeed why is anyone worried for the future. Obama will cure all. "Yes He Can!"

Indeed after the horrors of the evil Bush-Cheney years all will be goodness and light under our blessed Pres Obama. Weren't untold millions imprisoned in Gitmo, waterboarded and tortured, had their private converstions snooped upon, sent to die for oil and Haliburton, etc? In short wasn't the US the most hated country and biggest hellhole on the face of the earth for the past eight years?

But fear not we have a saviour! Obama is thy name!???? Thy kingdom come.

nix
The problem I see with a comparison to A.Lincoln
is that Lincoln was a conservative Republican and Obama is a socialist Liberal Democrat.
This is like trying to mix water and oil.

Is there a reality?
Obama a great president? Like Lincoln? These Obama supporters are ridiculous. In their world 2 + 2 equals anything but 4. That is why no matter what Obama does or doesn't do as president he will be deemed great. He can't fail in their minds because if he does, their hopes and dreams will collapse and a deep seeded depression will overwhelm them. Success or failure simply doesn't matter. Obama will be great, period!

Obama the Uniter
So, Obama wants to unite the country the way Lincoln did? Apparently Obama not only is ignorant of the Constitution (in spite of being a "consitutional law professor), he doesn't know jack about history, either. Lincoln didn't unite the country. His election was the last straw for the South that tore the country apart and led to the War for Southern Independence (Sorry, Jonah, but as an unreconstructed Southerner, I don't regard Lincoln as the greatest president ever). But then, maybe Obama does want to unite the country like Lincoln did - by force, shredding the Constitution in the process.

You gotta wonder..
if in ten years, these lefty illuminati types who think Obama is God are going to have the same acclaim as the marketers of the gigantic flop, New Coke in the 80's.

Obama's messiah metaphor
Hasn't our President elect pointed out again and again that his father was a "simple African goat herder." Not much of a stretch to infer that Obama sees himself as part of a royal line and being an heir to the "good shepard."

President elect Obama's making a demigod out of his father, who was really just another deadbeat dad and a womanizing drunk, to further Obama's own divinity has a very rank odor.

Fairy tales about your father being an African goat herder (his family was quite wealty in Africa) who came to America seeking freedom (still married to an African woman when he married Obama's mother) has great mythical connotations and might advance a messiah mystic but has not relation to reality.

Michelle Obama speeches are filled with references to her husband that denote her belief in the almost divine nature of her husband and his mission to change this country. Let's all chant 20 choruses of "Yes We Can!" Puts everyone in that good ole time revival meeting frame of mind!

Sorry the right is not the ones making up tales of divine origins for Obama. It is Obama, his wife and the MSM who are beating that drum!

"But...doesn't the MSM realize they're setting Obama up for a fall? In setting such absurd expectations, there's bound to be disappointment and disillusionment.""

The media will prop him up as long as it takes. It is up to the GOP to shed light and counter the media.

The electorate had better
hope that HE ISN'T like Lincoln or FDR. While those presidents were men of their time there is a reason we devolved out of their brand of politics.

JohnR22
"But...doesn't the MSM realize they're setting Obama up for a fall? In setting such absurd expectations, there's bound to be disappointment and disillusionment."

In the eyes of the MSM, Obama will be a success--indeed perhaps our greatest president ever--whether we rebound from the current financial mess or slide into Great Depression II (the far more likely scenario, given the left's prescriptions for "recovery").

They're already blaming Bush for the NEXT 4 years, and they will undoubtedly fall back on the inherently irrefutable argument that "things would have been even worse if not for all the wonderful policies implemented by Obama, the great uniter, regulator of sea levels."

Here we go...
O M Gosh - don't people read history from all angles? Pardon me if I don't share the theory that Lincoln & FDR are the greatest presidents of all times. Don't get me wrong they did do a grandiose thing that our country required at the time. In fact i believe each president, with the notable exception of a few, either did a specific grandiose thing or a series of pretty cool things that added greatness to the country as a whole, but if you look at all presidencies, like humans, they are terribly flawed and depending upon any given day "that" president is either great or horrid. And spare me Bush haters - our economy was indeed great until about 2 years ago when the Dems took over & excuse me but have we been attacked no - so there you go - Bush's 2 great things. I personally have my own greatest presidents ever list that i'm sure half of the people would agree with & the other half will stone me.

Obama as FDR/Lincoln - well ok I agree - in someone's head - just not mine. I personally can't wait to see what the boy will actually do as he has yet to accomplish anything. Will he be great in his own right & do a specific grandiose thing or a bunch a very cool things or will he be the next Jimmy Carter but with a little more pizzazz. From what I know about the guy so far I'm going with Jimmy Carter with a little pizzazz & actually I think Carter will come out on top as who was a better president.

Obama and Expectations
He raised them.

He'll dash them.

The second term of Jimmy Carter starts 20 Jan 09.

Two points discredit you alone...

"Once in a century recession"? The GREAT DEPRESSION began as a recession.

"Once in a century hurricane"? LOL. Since I live in New Orleans, I know a lot about hurricanes. And, I have a lot of experience, too. Does Hurricane Camille ring a bell? Betsy? Donna? Hugo? And, let's not forget Hurricane Andrew. I am sure that even Democratic Floridians won't even blame George W. Bush for it.

As much as the Left would like to accuse Bush of all-knowing power, hurricanes are beyond his pay grade and ability.

Your knowledge is "a*s"tounding!

Oneye and Mike
Indeed, FDR and Lincoln both subverted basic tenents of the United STATES Constitution.

Anyone who objectively studies their administrations knows this to be fact.

When did we stop studying objectively and start falling for emotionally laden, revisionist history? Good grief.

Where is The One?
Recently, Obama is eerily silent on this big 3 bailout. I know why. Rahn Emanuel was on the radio this morning saying that out of all of this economic turmoil will come great opportunity. See they want things to go so bad, that way Obama will be able to impose nationalization of industry, national health insurance (and a scarcity of primary care physicians), control talk radio, etc. They want things to get worse. At least they admit it.

Quantum of sycophancy ...

If Obama does what he wants to do
he'll be a miserable failure. It makes me extremely sad because I love my country.

I don't see how anyone can compare him to Lincoln or any other President, or say he's going to be great when he hasn't done a thing except give lofty speeches.

My prayer is that he doesn't do too much damage in the 4 years he has in office.

THE SHATTERING OF BARACK OBAMA
Throughout the campaign Obama raised unrealistic expectations in millions of voters about himself and what he would achieve as President, expectations that will eventually be shattered on the hard rock of reality.

"The One", "The Messiah", "The New Lincoln", "The New FDR" and "The New JFK"... I have not seen this much "love" since I was in 6th grade, when all of the girls had met "The One" that they were going to marry. Given the mass euphoria, let me strike them down one at a time.

"The One"? What on Earth does that mean? Is he going to part the Red Sea? Get Russia to take a step back from its ever-increasing bellicose BEHAVIOR? Will al Qaeda lay down its weapons on Jan. 20th? Will Iran cease its nuclear weapons program?

"The Messiah"? To paraphrase Lloyd Benson, "I know the Messiah. He is my personal Savior. Barack Obama, you are no Messiah!" And, for those trying to lay this misnomer at the feet of Republicans, why did thousands of people, who were pulled to the side of the road on the I-95 outside of Arlington, VA, Republicans cry for Obama's caravan, scream "He's coming! The Messiah is coming!" In this derangement, I suppose Louis Farrakhan is a Republican, too.

"New Lincoln"? Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN! The Cabinet of Rivals did not, contrary to the book, work. "Uniter"? Well, Democrats have been screaming about Bush, the "Uniter" for years. Lastly, I don't think that Obama would want to go to the theater with him.

"The New FDR"? Considering the Great Depression and trying to expand and pack the Supreme Court, I would rather avoid another FDR.

"The New JFK"? Please let's hope we don't have another Cuban Missle Crisis. And, like Lincoln, his Presidency ended with a bang.

I didn't vote for Obama, but raising expectations will be devastating to those who did. In the meantime, let's see what he does before as signing labels to him. Until then, secular hero worshippers should stick to "American Idol".

Oneeye is right
Lincoln a uniter?? Did ya ever hear of the Civil War? It was in all the papers.

Lincoln freed the slaves, something long overdue, and he wrote the Gettysburg Address. Those were good things. He also instigated a war, suspended habeus corpus, floated greenbacks, and allowed Sherman to pillage and loot the south, which is a war crime. Had he been allowed to finish his term he might have turned out much WORSE than history remembers him. If Barry does these things, I don't think we'll remember him fondly.

It's all about force
Since Obama has no history of doing anything that united warring parties, I imagine he'll put on a facade of unity: silencing opposition and using a willing media to portray a united country.

We must stand against any upcoming policies and laws that will harm our country. Let's demand that the Republican leadership stand as Reagan Conservatives to protect this nation:

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/we-demand-true-conserva tive-leadership.html

The MSM is insane
It's clear a substantial portion of the MSM desperately wanted Obama to win, and slanted their coverage accordingly. I don't think it was a clever scheme...I think they just fell in love with him like most of the Obama-bots (same as with JFK/Camelot).

And now we see the next phase, which is the deification of the guy. The cover of Newsweek, Crhis Matthews stating (with tears in his eyes) that it's "his job" to ensure Obama succeeds. The list goes on.

But...doesn't the MSM realize they're setting Obama up for a fall? In setting such absurd expectations, there's bound to be disappointment and disillusionment. Already Obama is moving to the Center on many hot-button issues dear to the radical Left and the outrage on the blogs is beginning.

The MSM is fundamentally corrupt and incompetent. The sooner we realize it, the better off we'll be.

Obama like Lincoln?
Probably so:

Splitting the country in two (or more) -- then trying to put it back together at gunpoint.

Massive violations of civil rights.

Yeah, I can see that.

Obama as Messiah
Whew! What a bunch of (insert favorite euphemism for a steaming pile of smelly stuff here).

I agree with Jonah in that we as AMERICANS can and should at least allow Obama a chance to prove his mettle, or to fail miserably prior to either raising him up on a pedestal or tearing him down. I for one am not impressed or enamored with his expressed opinions and supposed promises, but as we all know, what is said and done in a campaign can vastly change when faced with reality, so time will tell.

As to the Messiah inferences, I find it curious that someone who professes to be a Christian, as Obama does, would not publicly state that he does not want, or deserve to be referred to in this way (regardless of where it comes from, left or right). One it is blasphemous to a true Christian, and two, it only serves to set expectations so high that no mortal man can achieve them (setting himself up for failure and disillusionment).

People may have many reasons for picking a greatest president that are based on history, emotions or some combination of both. As for me, I can't think of a single president in the last century with the possible exception of RR that could hold up to the scrutiny or gain the approval of the first three. Our founders were men of integrity and courage who laid everything on the line for our freedom. I wonder how they would evaluate the performance of our leaders today?

Why the Worry?
The mere acceptance by any public servant to take on problems and try to find solutions is noteworthy. I admire the individuals and non-profits who work for a better tomorrow. The only people I've heard actually refer to Obama as a savior or messiah are those who've been opposed to him. I've often wondered about this because I've also heard him referred to in very ugly ways. Language is a powerful tool. Calling names and dropping names is useful in both negative and positive ways. If he or anyone else wants to make comparisons between Obama and other leaders, why not? We're supposed to learn from our past.
National cohesion in the 1920s and 1950s? Not in my understanding of our history...increased crime and violence among all classes, renewed power and prosperity in organized crime, and worst of all, government playing the anti-American blame games that destroyed individuals and families and laid the groundwork for heightened fears about our enemies. I wouldn't want those days to return.
It's easy to be a commentator; too bad we've lost so many real journalists to the corporate media.

DONT FORGET TOM BROKAW SAID !
TOM SAID BARRY KNOWS HOW TO PUT LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE!NOT EVEN!!BUT YOU KNOW TOM,HE CRIED AND WEPT WITH JOY!THE LIBERALS MIGHT OF BOUGHT TOM A NEW CORVETTE FOR THAT ONE!OR A NEW LINCOLN TOWN CAR!BARRY=ABE NOT EVEN NOT EVER!

Obama as MESSIAH
Frankly! My belief is that there's only one Messiah. Until His coming again to rectify all that's wrong in our "utopian" society, where are those who really know how to care for themselves without government interference. I'm 61 years old and my parents did their best to care for 9 children without government help and did a pretty good job of it. What our country needs today is fewer politicians who want government to take over the world for our benefit. Our Constitution should be the ruling factor for our needs and not swarms of politicians who are looking out for their own best interest. Get a real job bozos. I've worked hard all my life for what I have and don't want government telling me what's best for my, or my family's welfare. Let me be the judge of what's best. I don't really care who's President as long as he allows our Constitution to rule. Don't rewrite it for his best interest. If our voting public would only wake up and get rid of all the dead wood in Congress this could once again be the best country to live in.

Messiah?
I don't know of anyone from the left who have been calling Obama messiah; it is the right that is using this as a platform to bash the man before he takes office. The similarities between FDR and BHO, are not in the men, but in the crises that they faced and will face. And Lincoln and Obama, well both not from Illinois but served for the state, both had women wh were not their birth mothers raise them and pass away just before taking office, both were thought to have been too inexperienced for the position (Lincoln being a Rep. for only 2 years). It is the circumstances from which they came out of and that they encountered that makes them similar. So give the guy a break and wait until January 20 to destroy th man.

There have been so many photos of the Dear Leader alluding to his pagan god like status, this is called symbolism, and the MSM has pushed that image hard.

It’s not always about who says what, it’s about how propaganda is presented to the public, a picture of OMarxist surrounded in light or with a faint halo around head seems pretty clear to me what point is being made.

hey you guys
1st, for all you morons that are rooting for him to fail, understand if he fails odds are we all fail, a la Bush.

The conservative party had its chance and what did you guys give us? A once in a century recession (sound familiar "once in a century hurricane" what bad luck, 2 once in a century events...), followed up by a complete socialization of the banking system (you all must love how Bush privatized profits & socialized losses, and now watch those tax cuts, & all the wealth accumulated during his presidency disappear) and a big f u on the way out by the admins' refusal to back the big 3 in some meaningful way.

2nd, we all need to get behind him & do what we can to push this country back to greatness, bickering & b*tching because your man lost won't do anything. The whole world got behind Bush & Amercia post 9/11, the only person(s) to blame for the sh*tshow that followed is... Bush & Co.

3rd this man has been given the most difficult situation of any incoming president since FDR or Lincoln, which is part of where alot of those comparisons come from. When he succeeds you all will probably still hate, but that's your right, all you haters were just put here to make the winners shine brighter...

"Behind all the talk of unity and bipartisanship and shared sacrifice lies an uglier ambition: power." Hmmmm, sounds eerily familiar... Bush Cheney... that's where I heard that...

Evy
Why did you have to mention property rights? You just reminded me that it is property tax time and with that tax I have no property rights. Depressed my whole day.

Bulldog 74
"Dear Leader" is pretty good. However, I tend to lean towards, "Chairman bHO".

Crises prompt loss of liberty
Liberals want crises. They invent them as the way to get the people to agree to give up liberties they would otherwise hold dear. Such as property rights.

Bulldog74
I’m with you, I’ve looked across the DMZ in Korea, seen what is called freedom village, (Utopia) nothing but a Hollywood front, spent some time in some former eastern bloc countries and oh how quaint the squalor.

O’s whole idea is one big Marxist lie.

HansFury
Yes, a portrait in every home & business, and a large statue in each major city.

And we need some lame song that all the schoolkids can sing as they march off to National Service Day...."Oh Dear Leader, Lead us, as we join the worker's struggle against capitalists and their imperialist running dogs."

Have actually been there & seen that...hopefully it never comes to these shores.

the greatest President?
That's a tough one. I can only think of my top three: TR, Reagan, Lincoln in no particular order. Silent Cal Coolidge was also a very, very good pres - and a total unknown to many.

Bulldog74
Don't forget we must have a picture of the Dear Leader hung in every home.

maybe a dart board!

Obambi's arrogance
The man's ego is monstrous and his arrogance knows no bounds. He's already written two books about his favorite subject: himself. Can you imagine how he feels now that he has sycophants fawning all over him and a prostrate media? When this happens, watch out for the blowback. I predict he's going to step in it big time. About the time Israel bombs Iran.

Semperfi/par
No question, George Washington hands down.

Obama as Abe Lincoln?! Obama probably would have been curled up in a fetal position under the Oval Office desk after Fredricksburg & Chancellorsville, hoping that his civillian security force could protect him from the Army of Northern Virginia.

Nope, he's no Messiah, I've decided to tamp down expectations and refer to him simply as "Dear Leader."

edward
You are so right. Ask any of his supporters what great things he has done? The answer is nothing.
How can he be great if he has done nothing great?
Well I have to say his election has "greatly" diminished the stock market.

Obama
The guy is not the President yet and you all call him the Pres.He is not the man yet. The other thing comparing him to all the great Pres. is a shame he is not in office yet, and I can't wait for the first BIG GOOF> enough said

Greatest President
The greatest President by far was George Washington.

We here in TH do not care if Libs like us; we know we are right. We do like you because it brings us much pleasure to confound you libs - such as winning 7 of the last 10 since your last Dem landslide (which Obama did not have) in '64.

And, unlike your feelings to us, we do not think you are ignorant. We do wonder when people are going to wake up and figure out all you do is say things that are not so and pander to people with money for votes. That is our job as Conservatives - show people the light.

Going to 8 of 12 in 2012. Enjoy your very short stay, Libby!

The Pet Goatunist
Snakes at times do appear to slither along the surface of the water, does this count as walking in the case of a Marxist.

“Obama insinuates that he wants to bring the country together the way Honest Abe did.”
Look I believe Abe was a great president, but the only way Marxist Obama will bring the country together is through another civil war left against right, and the left would have to win, then of course conservatives would be sent to reeducation camps.

Abe Lincoln
This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their Constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it.

Lincoln a socialist?
Your profs smoke to much weed. To say lincoln was a socialist is to take snippets of his writings and quotes then relate them out of context to buttress a total bogus point: that he was liberal.

Lincoln was many things to many different people - that speaks to his political skills, not his ideology.

Obama
If Obama were to reach as high as could, he might, just might, touch the bottom of Lincoln's shoes.

Lincoln was a socialist
If you guys attended schools instead of Indoctrination Centres, where actual history was taught, you would realize that Lincoln was in fact a raving socialist and that, like JFK, his record and intentions were cut short by bullets before people who thrive on buckets of tears and primal howls could be forced to admit that his views were what Americans would have called, well, un-American.

In fact, if you come down to it, FDR was a socialist too...a wealthy socialist who never had to turn a hand to earn any kind of living, just like King O.

Americans have historically looked with deep suspicion on socialists, until the present generation that is swept by emotion alone.

Socialists. They are all socialists. In fact, MLK was investigated for his trend to be somewhere left of socialism, at least while I was in college in the 1960s we knew that.

So what is the surprise when King O is compared to two socialists and a communist? Only people who didnt know that are people who cannot read anything but text-speak and think LOL is a word.

Messiah!
If Obama walked on water today, all the freaks on the right would scream out: "See! He can't even swim!"

hissy fit Jonah?
In this time when the conservative message is going out to more and more people why are cons so unpopular? More people have access to the conservative view now then ever before. Do you think that message is being rejected? Do you think it has to do with people like Lucianne Goldberg and her little boy? What a piece of BS.
People like BHO. They don't like whinny losers like the conservatives here at TH!

Bob Munck
We get that Obama is busy choosing his Cabinet and all, but why haven't we heard from him wrt the worsening stock market plunge? Why haven't we heard from him as to his ideas for the Big Three?

Can't the man say something more significant-and useful-than that he wants to be a 'uniter'?

Bob Munck
We do think he's going to be a great President.

Yes, Bob, it is the "we" noted in your observation that has the sane people concerned about his presidency.

Bob, let's hope you still
feel that way in four years after Obama and his leftist illuminati cabinet continue to go back on his grandiose campaign promises. He has started setting an unappealing trend of "editing" his promises, so the track record has already been established.

He's Your Messiah, Not Ours
99.9% of the "Obama as Messiah" talk is coming from right-wingers. You can't find as many as a dozen examples of liberals saying any such thing, whereas it's a staple of the right-wing pundits and blogs.

We do think he's going to be a great President.
