A Race Conversation? What Are You Talking About?

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Thank God for Barack Obama. Until his "More Perfect Union" speech last Tuesday, it seems it never occurred to anyone that America needed to talk about race.

"Maybe this'll be the beginning of a conversation," Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan proclaimed on "Meet the Press." The Chicago Tribune reported that "many voters, black and white, say they were moved by Obama's speech ... which they see as a long-awaited invitation to begin an honest, calm national dialogue about race." Newspaper editorial boards agree. In the words of the San Diego Union-Tribune: "Prodding Americans to confront their racial differences is, by itself, an accomplishment of historical proportions."

Because so many agree on this brilliant new strategy to heal our national wounds, I can only assume that I'm the one missing something. But when one luminary after another smacks his forehead like someone who forgot to have a V8 in epiphanic awe over the genius of Obama's call for a national conversation on race, all I can do is wonder: "What on Earth are you people talking about?"

"Universities were moving to incorporate the issues Mr. Obama raised into classroom discussions and course work," the New York Times reported within 48 hours of the speech.

Oh, thank goodness Obama fired the starter's pistol in the race to discuss race. Here I'd been under the impression that every major university in the country already had boatloads of courses dedicated to race in America. I'd even read somewhere that professors had incorporated racial themes into classes on everything from Shakespeare to the mating habits of snail darters. I also had some vague memory that these universities recruited black students and other racial minorities, on the grounds that interracial conversations on campus are as important as talking about math, science and literature. A ghost of an image in my mind's eye seemed to reveal African-American studies centers, banners for Black History Month, and copies of books like "Race Matters" and "The Future of the Race" lining shelves at college bookstores.

Were all the corporate diversity consultants and racial sensitivity seminars mere apparitions in a dream? Also disappearing down the memory hole, apparently, were the debates that followed Hurricane Katrina, Trent Lott's remarks about Strom Thurmond, the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Clarence Thomas, the publication of "The Bell Curve" and O.J. Simpson's murder trial. Not to mention the ongoing national chatter about affirmative action, racial disparities in prison sentences and racial profiling by law enforcement.

And the thousands of hours of newscasts, television dramas and movies - remember films such as 2004's Oscar-winning "Crash"? - dedicated to racial issues? It's as if they never existed.

I feel like one of the last humans in an "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" movie in which all of the pod people are compelled by some alien DNA to pine continually for yet another "conversation" about a topic we've never stopped talking about. And if I just fall asleep, I, too, can live in the pod people's dream palace, where every conversation about race is our first conversation about race. Snatching me from any such reverie was this masterful understatement from Thursday's New York Times: "Religious groups and academic bodies, already receptive to Mr. Obama's plea for such a dialogue, seemed especially enthusiastic."

No kidding. Janet Murguia is one such enthusiastic person. She hoped, according to the Times, that Obama's speech would help "create a safe space to talk about (race)."

Who's Janet Murguia? Oh, she's just the president of the National Council of La Raza, which, despite what they'll tell you, means "the race." Maybe it's just me, but aren't most of the people begging for a "new conversation" on race the same folks who shouted "racist!" at anyone who disagreed with them during all the previous conversations?

This disconnect between rhetoric and reality is the kind of thing one finds in novels by Alexander Solzhenitsyn or Milan Kundera. To my un-rehabilitated ear, Murguia sounds like an old Soviet apparatchik saying that what the USSR really needs is an open and frank conversation about the importance of communism.

Why do voluptuaries of racial argy-bargy want yet another such dialogue? For some, it's to avoid actually dealing with unpleasant facts. But for others - like La Raza or the college professors scrambling to follow Obama's lead - when they say we need more conversation, they really mean their version of reality should win the day. Replace "conversation" with "instruction" and you'll have a better sense of where these people are coming from and where they want their "dialogue" to take us.

Reality is that Obama knew this pastor was a disaster, to quote Bill Kristol and even foresaw it coming last year.

Click on the link "New York Times" to read, once in the article by the brillian, Christopher Hitchens.

If this campaign wasn't about race then why call it historic as so many have already, including the democrats.

sved
"Sen. Obama, we're sick of talking about race, lets talk about something more important."

***

I'm quite sure that he is too. He is not the
one who brought it up

Racism-The Big Lie in America
Racism is an extortion of ALL AMERICANS.

Blacks were not the only ones ever in history to be enslaved, Blacks enslaved Jews, Blacks enslaved Blacks, and history will tell you that other ethnicity and peoples were enslaved at various times in our history.

Blacks were not the only ones oppressed. Women were oppressed for centuries in addition to other minorities; perhaps they don't know the recent situations in China, North Korea and other such places.

Blacks seem to think that they are the only ones victimized, they seem to have forgotten the Jews, who more recently, faced worst situations than enslavement - they faced death camps.

This is only to point out that enough is enough of this extortion on Americans.

Opportunity is given to all, what you do with it is where your life counts. No one will save you from the reality you've created by you making poor choices along the way to the life you now live.

The only racism is the racism being perpetuated by those Blacks who want financial compensation.

The answer is no.

Only two kinds of people ...
... will be invited to any "dialogue" that actually does take place: White liberals who are only too ready to kiss black racist butt and black racists who want their butts kissed.

Why is Barack Obama running for Pres?
He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler and Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best; still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) meanwhile he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well puts the qualifications issue to rest.

Is it safe?
But this talk about race is different because we're being talked at by someone who is a racist himself and . . . . never mind. I forgot about Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the rest of the typical race baiters. Wake me up when the "race discussion" is over. I'm sick of it, too.

Let's talk 'Ingratitude' instead!
The only thing 40 years of 'dialogue' on race has produced is the self-righteousness exhibited by Obama et al. That and the back-slappers at his 'church.' He's a con-man.
Time to re-appraise the concept of 'freedom of association.' That's the dialogue we need.
The unintended consequence of this political season may be a revisitation by the level-headed, who comprise the majority, to those facts of our history which reflect highly on the effort America has made to redress racial grievance, and the ingratitude that effort has met. The "boys in the 'hood" are victims of racism; Oprah & Cosby are successful in spite of it. Yeah, right.

We can mix the discussion of race and race by mentioning rookie F1 phenom, Lewis Hamilton, who, were it not for a rookie mistake in the next to last race last year would have won the F! drivers championship.

Lewis is black and not a victim.

True Race Fans
Gotta love em!

Just a question
Audi, Mother of4, Leisha,

Should we ask BHO, and Rev Wrong to join our discussion on race? I wonder if they're gearheads, too.

Race fans
I try to root for several drivers, LaBonte, Stewart, there are several. As I said earlier, wherever Chad Knaus is, there I will be cheering. Audi, glad to see you made it back from your sock drawer. ;-) I always appreciate your comments. Glad to find we can agree to discuss race like adults!

Audi,
Good questions. I've seen that sour face on the F1 podium shots on Speed Report and Wind Tunnel and wondered what the guy was so unhappy about.

They use that line about first having to finish in Nascar too -- frequently about that 22yo favorite driver of mine. Its the price I pay for rooting for the hard-chargers who tend to race with their hearts first and their heads second. LOL

Mario Andretti was my dad's favorite when I was a kid and he followed racing during the Steelers' off-season. Any time I hear his voice I get homesick for Pittsburgh, PA where Italian accents were common when I was a kid.

I haven't heard of Marino Franchitti. That sounds like a good story there. Want to tell it?

:-)

LeishaC
Bobby LaBonte has class! I can't imagine anyone ever rooting against him. :-)

I don't root for Tony Stewart, but he sure helps keep conversations about race lively and interesting with all the controversy he gets into. ;-)

And, of course, its impossible not to smile when Tony's big, mushy heart shows through the hard-nosed exterior.

Rev. Jamal Wright Obama
http://www.foxnews.com/images/312103/1_61_obama_wright.jpg

maybe he is more white than obama like 3/4 vs. 1/2.....

he is lighter than obama...... a whiteman supporting black nationalist...

Mother of 4
Talking about Race:

Why does Kimi Raikkonen always stand on the podium looking as if he's about to be hanged? It's not a Finn Thing; Heikki Kovalenen looked positively ecstatic to be there.

Why do the Peugeot drivers take their instructions from the Andrettis? Racing at the head of the pack for 1/3 of a 12 hour race and then rejoining 23 laps down after you blow up your car is not the way to win. Remember what Murray Walker said. "To finish first, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH." (And remember also that he said, "Unless I am very much mistaken, Senna is on fire as he comes into the Swimming Pool!" Whereupon James Hunt remarked, "Well that should put him out.")

Why are the four favourite words in racing still "Andretti Is Slowing Down"?

Did you know that Paul Page still holds the record for saying MichaelAndretti the most times without taking a breath (six times in five minutes).

Oh, and why was it that the 1993 McClaren was such a terrible car until Mikey got out of it and Mika got in (when it placed higher on the grid than teammate Senna)?

Finally, since Marino Franchitti is the fastest and most capable driver on short notice to ever jump into a car, why is it that it took Rob Dyson to discover this fact and finally give him a full time ride? (And why did Mikey fire Marino when his brother Dario quit AGR to flee to NA$CAR? Inquiring minds would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the trailer that day.)

Mom o' 4, MD/MG...
I'm a race fan too, but not of ANY of your guys! I'm first a Bobby Labonte fan, and then a Tony Stewart fan. The drivers I love to hate are the 18, 24 and 48! Sorry! But I do love having a conversation about race...

Have I entered in to this conversation

about race sufficiently? Or, should I continue with my questions about it? For example, since, hopefully, I am one of BHO's "typical white persons" (wait a minute isn't that a stereotype)? Is it really going to advance the conversation to speak of each other using stereotypes? Do you suppose BHO will EVER BE ABLE to view people based on their character rather than the color of their skin?

BHO sure does raise alot of questions in my heart and mind with his rhetoric.

K.G.
But recall that the term was used by the assistant to the D.C. Mayor and he still was forced to resign and I had one idiot--who last I knew worked for USAID in Afghanistan--told me that he should have been because he should have known better not to use the term. She also didn't want to complain about noise from a neighbor in her apartment because he had the right to enjoy his space too. Dumb as a sack full of hammers and these are the people USAID hire--well she did have other assets that may have influenced the hiring officers not related to her intelligence.

BHO seeks not only to divide Americans,

he wants to divide Christians. It seems to me that for BHO EVERYTHING is about race.

I also had never heard that it was

ok to take the Lord's name in vain if it was done by a Christian pastor. I had always heard the prohibition was absolute.

Oh well, I guess BHO's form of Christianity is less concerned about unity and cursing than is my form of Christianity. Wait a minute, how can their be all of these different forms of Christianity. There was only one Christ and His teachings are pretty clear.

If anything, BHO is an extremely confused man.

It is good that we Christians are

united as Our Lord prayed we would be. I just did not know, until hearing Rev. Wright, how little Jesus thought of the white race. My Christian parents and pastors and friends never let on once about how Jesus hated whitey.

Real Record Reveals Real Character
To refatsew:

Discovering whether or not Obama has a strong character is what the Obama discussion is all about, in my opinion.

His liberalism is not in doubt; we are certain of that. It's his contradictions that make me, at least, question his character.

And his lack of quantifiable accomplishment. All around me I see people who are realizing their visions. People who have started and maintained a businesses, who meet payrolls and live everyday with terrifying responsibilities and heavy accountability. If I make a bad business decision, people don't get paid. People don't eat.

The problem with both HRC and BHO is they have to no real record of accomplishment on which to judge their abilities. The buck has never had to stop with them in any significant way that I can see.

POTUS is not an entry-level position. A record of accomplishment reveals true character. Otherwise, it's just pie in the sky.

Barack Obama
In 1983 Barack Obama graduated from Columbia University and while still in his mid twenties began working as a community organizer on the south side of Chicago. Having grown up without a father and in a non religious environment, it was then that he began attending Trinity United Church of Christ and met the pastor of the church, Rev. Wright, a black man 20 years his senior, who became influential in his life and became part of his family, his “adopted uncle”, and who helped Barack Obama become a Christian believer.
Barack Obama has vigorously denounced Wright's hyperbolic, 1960s style radical rhetoric that Wright used in his sermons of 2001 and that is based on Wright's extreme anger and bitterness which Obama understands but doesn't share. But Barack Obama has refused to disown his "adopted uncle" simply for political expediency.
Disagree with his liberalism if you want, but Barack Obama is a man of superior intelligence and strong character.

Jonah had ne nodding in agreement,

As someone in academia (and the humanities, no less), let me assure you that truer words have not been spoken.

MD/MG
As a Kyle Busch fan I'm still a bit peeved at Hendrick, but I have a lot of respect for Jimmie's talent. I figure that Jimmie and Chad can NEVER be counted out of contention unless I see a smoking heap of scrap metal being loaded onto the 48 hauler. They are just too good!

I think that we'll see Jeff and Jimmie towards the front again soon. I just can't imagine them staying down all year and I just hope that Kyle can stay in front of them. :D

I'm hoping that Chrissy Wallace will do well in her truck debut this week. I've long said that the first successful female Nascar driver would come up the old-fashioned way -- by being part of a racing family. I'm optimistic for her because, unlike so many female racers who make a temporary splash then vanish, she's been winning races at the levels she's run at.

I'm AMERICAN
Not hyphenated or addendummed! The Pc-patrol and those who wish to sow discord among us, insist on having this divisivness continue. It's supposed to show all the diversity of our nation. What it in fact does, is perpetuate a stereo-typical separateness between us. No more African-Irish-Hispanic-Jewish-Italian-Pacific Islander etc., ad nauseum!! I'm an American. Just who, and what are YOU????!!!!

How true, I have been hearing race issue since the 1960's, and am sick of it myself.

I got a novel idea
Let us admit we are all racists and the only non racists among us are the ones who refuse to keep talking about this bs.

We are all racist.

Only those who refuse to talk about it are non racists

Same thing about sexism
Who are the real sexists today?
Well its the people who always talk about sex.

Take Hillairy, she thinks she deserves the office of President simply because of her gender.
She has millions of women backing her for that reason.
Simply because she is a woman.
The sexist pigs.

No bigger sexists in the world and its history than the feminists.
Same thing with racism, it comes from racist who are always talking about race and the color of their skins.

Poor me, yuk, enough to gag a maggot.

We Make It a Problem, eh?
Best advice on this issue might just come from the cartoon, Flo & Friends. One clip talked about anger, hate, etc. It simply said:

"Let it go! HOLDING A GRUDGE IS LIKE DRINKING POISON AND WAITING FOR THE OTHER GUY TO DIE."

How perfect is that?!? Yep, we're keeping this race thing alive. We've talked it to death for decades, so time for everyone to let this go and get a life. The past is the past.

Black Racism
Good article and really good posts followed. Was watching O'Reilly while the Rev Wright debacle was really hot and he had on a couple of Black ministers or something. He asked them is Black racism existed and one of them said that it didn't because they had never been in a position of power over the whites.
-------

This tells us all what this is about:
"because they had never been in a position of power over the whites."

The racism today is coming from the blacks themselves, as they continually speak from words about the color of their skins.
Its what racism is.
Then we hear about if from many brown skins.
No where do we hear of people given any mainstream outlet that speak of their white skins.

This is dominated by the racist black and brown people.
When they shut their racist mouths up for good, then healing is found in the very peace of nature.

This has been a constant whining, waaaa, waaaaaaaa, we want to rule over the white man, our skins tell us it must happen to avenge our pride.

Now, seeing how it is about revenge for past history, no man can change, how in the **** is talking about it going to fix it?
It isn't, but it will lead to more and more hate speech like seen in Obama's "pastor".
The old racist hypocrite.

Black Racism
Good article and really good posts followed. Was watching O'Reilly while the Rev Wright debacle was really hot and he had on a couple of Black ministers or something. He asked them is Black racism existed and one of them said that it didn't because they had never been in a position of power over the whites. Duh. I, and most of my friends and those I talked with about this, agree on the fact that we really don't care about a person's color and are generally willing to accept each person for who they are. Of course, that being said I agree with the person above who said they were 'behavorists', I believe. My one friend, a short white woman of 66 years, used to have to ride a bus every day with a whole group of black young men who would sit in the back of the bus and swear and hollar, etc. all during her ride. She was very apprehensive the whole time she was on the bus. More than likely they would have done nothing to harm anyone but one couldn't be sure of that by the way they acted. I am not too happy when I come upon a whole group of Whites who are taking up the whole sidewalk while doing the same thing. Especially those who walk like penquins, shuffling from side to side to keep their pants at least covering their privates. If they only realized how ridiculous they looked. Anyway, to me it is the behavior more than the color also. I guess it is a bit disheartening to think that while you are trying to engage a Black person on a personal level that person might be looking at you through their eyes and thinking, "Fool".

how true
Populist, collectivist, American demagogues must pull the race card to even hope to overwhelm there way into a position in the political system because intelligent, honest, and sane producing Americans see the money grab for what it is and will fight to stop it. Pandering to racial tension is simply a pragmatic use of the impoverished and lower income demographic, which happens to have a much higher percentage of minorities feeling angry and mistreated, by way of using the promise of greater entitlements to buy more votes.

The article accurately reflects on the unbalanced, overindulged and institutionalized racism used by the elite to divide the nation and how Obama by way of implying there isn’t enough of a discourse already only proves he is yet another disgenuine, demagogue looking for the power to steal your hard earned wealth to redistribute to his constituents. Hell, listen to his wife for a few moments and you’ll her he say it openly, bluntly. At least she’s an honest crook unlike her husband!

America is headed fast in the wrong direction having such a choice of megalomaniacal con artists presented for the people to elect. A real leader, an honest leader, would confront the painful truth that Americans are running headlong into the dead end of collectivist socialism where everyone is simply a tool of the state to be managed to a level of static lowered economic sameness even more prey to the whims of a few powerful, individual egos swimming in adulation and ill gotten wealth. The managerial elite are doing there utmost devolving this great nation into nothing but crass, ignorant, barbarian gangs led by charismatic thieves. This path always leads to empire or violent dissolution but more often both. I do not desire these ends.

People, take back your Republic before it’s too late!

Isn't that what MANDATORY diversity
training is? When I was employed by a medium-sized company, in order to comply with regulations, all managers (of which I was one) had to attend Diversity Training. You know -- we all are helped that many people of many different skin colors contribute to the company from their points of view. Let's make a regular Tower of Babel of the company, where all points of view have a say, and have merit -- no matter how corrosive the point of view may be. You MUST attend these meetings. You MUST agree that the person who refuses to do a better job has a point because they're of a different color than you. You MUST think this certain way, because it's the politically correct way.

Sorry. I couldn't abide it. I was supposed to agree to THINK a certain way, because that was the proper way to THINK. Sounds like Communism to me.

ONE SIDED CONVERSATION

.....It goes something like this ...when whites speak of race, they are racists ...when blacks make racial statements, they are entitled because they are victims ...

.....I imagine a dialogue of race with Obama would end up being a huge Mea Culpa by White America and how big reparations should be to absolve white guilt .....COLOSSUS

Ok, I'll talk about race
At least until some black "reverend" starts telling me how it's all my fault. And they always do, don't they? They have to keep the "victimhood" excuse in play, otherwise their flocks would have no excuse for not getting it together. Black culture is never to blame for all the black men in prison, it's all my fault. Obama's church proclaims that black culture is superior to white culture, while at the same time their pastor argues that results seem to prove the opposite. Oh, wait! It's racist whites who force those black men to sell crack and steal and kill.

Well, that's about it for my conversation about race.

Smart and Funny
It's great to wake up out here on the Left Coast and see Jonah inspired a bunch of intelligent--and hysterically funny posts.

I hope he reads them. I wish the whole dang world would. LOL

Mother of 4
Can I talk race with you? I've become a Jimmie Johnson fan by way of Jeff Gordon because one of our local guys started as JG's rear tire changer. Chad Knaus has done Rockford proud. I don't follow open wheel, love the truck series and try to see ARCA to see who's up and coming. We could talk race all day long. Anyone want to join us? Audi may be able to pull herself out of her sock drawer, she could help us in the open wheel category.

Mother of 4
Good one. Gave me a nice laugh for the day.

Aspire, Achieve, Don't Whine
It's not really a race problem: It's a leadership problem. Black Americans need leaders who don't blackmail government to throw welfare dollars at them but who will actually move into communities and work with young people, teaching them the skills and work habits that most immigrants seem to learn as soon as they hit U.S. soil. The basic lesson: In America today you have only yourself to blame if you don't take advantage of all the educational and work opportunities that are available. Thousands, perhaps millions, of black Americans have proven that the system works. Black communities, instead of blaming whitey, have to come together and support their young people's aspirations, steer them away from the drug and gangster culture and point them toward educational and career achievements. Immigrant communities have been doing that for decades with great success and little whining.

Excellent Article
I attended numerous optional "diversity" gatherings at my former job. These were billed as being "a safe place" to share thoughts and ideas. On more than one occassion I was yelled at by the facilitators for "not getting it". My crime, the best I can tell is lack of self flagellation.

A++ Jonah!!!
Spot on!

Many have stated the problem
The problem is that we have had these "dialogs" before. They boil down to justifications for black racism and chastisement for any perceived white racism. I am not saying there is no such thing as white racism, but we tend to call it what it is rather than diverting attention away from it as BHO has done with his preacher.

The conversation then turns to how whites can muakup for their "egregious sins." I don't see how this will be any different.

What this all comes down to is that Obama attended a racist, anti-American church for TWO DECADES. He did not have the moral fortitude to confront the pastor. I can draw only two conclusions here: either he agreed with the pastor or he was a coward. Either way, he is not fit to be President of the USA.

I attend a Catholic Church. The petitions are the prayers we say at one part of the Mass. As I listened one Sunday, one of the petitions seemed to blame all of the violence in the world on America. I let the priest know that if this continued, I would not put one cent in my offering envelope, and I would walk out when I heard it. I must not have been the only one to complain because I never heard such a petition since.

I'd Love to Talk About Race
I'd love to talk about race!

Nascar's Cup and Truck divisions are in Martinsville. Nothing like a short track for intense, racing action!

My favorite drivers, Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle, are on top of the Cup standings right now and Kyle's been strong on short tracks in his short career. But the surprising underperformance of the Hendrick guys, Jimmie and Jeff, may be reversed because they're strong candidates to put on a repeat of last year's side-by-side finish.

In the Trucks I'd love nothing more than to see another round of Rowdy Busch vs. Grandpa Hornaday (he's not old -- he's 18 with several extra decades of experience), with Todd Bodine breathing down their necks waiting for one of them to make a mistake.

I hear the F1 guys had a bit of a hard time in their first race without traction control a couple weeks ago but I wasn't watching Speed Report on Easter so I don't know how Malaysia went.

I'm not a drag racing fan, but I'm glad to see that John Force has recovered enough to race again after that horrific accident last year.

IRL hasn't started yet, but the first year of the American open wheel unification should be interesting to follow.

I just read that Speed will be broadcasting major World of Outlaws events this season -- good news for fans of that sort of race!

I only pay casual attention to sports car racing but I'm sure Audi could contribute a lot to conversations about those races.

Anyone have the latest Dakkar rally stuff?

Oh? That wasn't what having a conversation about race meant? Sorry.

BHO Wants To Talk About Race . . .
but only if he can direct the dialog and define the terms of the conversation. He gets to decide what specifics are on the table for discussion and which ones are not. If you can't accept these terms, then you are obviously one of those bigots that Reverend Wright hates so much.

This election is not so much the way we will choose our next president. It's more like an IQ test.

In my experience,
most so-called racism has not so much to do with color as it does with behavior. I am a behaviorist. I don't care if you're black, white, yellow, green or purple, if you can't be a responsible person and a good citizen, I don't like you. If you feel you are entitled to part of my paycheck because you didn't take advantage of the free government education, or you just don't feel like working for less than $10 an hour, but you want a plasma TV and a nice car, I am not your friend, no matter what race you are, and no amount of conversation will convince me.

Race?
Tell me about five straight generations of feral illegitimate black babies ALL OVER this country. Tell me about the absurdly high black on black murder rate. Tell me about the incredibly large percentage of black men currently in prison for violent crimes. Please Reverend Wright - tell me about all this...

Dialogue, not Monologue
What these blabbermouths want is not dialogue, but monologue. They want to harangue us and have us forced to listen and bow in silence and fork over more and more reparations.

If anyone would like to have a dialogue, in which Black people shut up and listen for once, call me. Otherwise, I have an urgent appointment with my sock drawer.

Jonah's a whale of a collumnist!!
My new favority editorialist. I laughed with relief ... I thought I had been living in the twilight zone also. What has been going on? What did I miss out on? Nothing! Thank you.

Across This Land
All across this land blacks are murdering whites in huge numbers. Let's discuss that. I believe it's people like Wright, and other's of his ilk that are causing his deadly war on whites that the despicable left wing propaganda machine aka mainstream media keeps hidden. Let's discuss that, and see how far you get with it.

When a liberal says
"we need to have a conversation about race" what that means is that once again we were caught in a massive lie or other wrong-doing so it is time to sit down and harangue whitey and change the subject.

In other words it's time for corporate america to once again hire some "consultants" to come in and tell the white workers why it is OK for blacks to be favored in promotions in front of them and why they are themselves to blame.

It all started with...
Fox and Conservatives showing Rev. Wright spewing venom on America and the Jews. Without that exposure, Obama would still be quietly ranting about this post-racial America.
Obama apparently has an mental identity problem, which he tries to solve by taking on a Black one. With a zeal typical of converts. So he cultivates this venomous pastor, who - if anything - does an teaches the opposite of what Jesus is supposed to have taught. This highly praised theologian is a promoter of crude lies, insane myths, and conspiracy theories. So: Obama likes him a lot for 20 years and now, that he needs votes, he found out that Wright said things - and meant them. And he kinda distances himself from that - though he does not "disown" the venom man. I DO HOPE Johnny MacCain whips his butt in general elections. The President and Commander in Chief need to be granit firm in their identity. And this is one thing MacCain is. Obama can become pastor at the Trinity. He is still young enough for a smart carrier move.

Two sides of the same coin
Racism and racial "pride" identity politics are just two sides of the same coin. Both are collectivism in its most primitive form.

Scalia was right (as usual). Race won't stop being an issue until we stop making it an issue.

The religious and campus race hustlers will squeal like the proverbial stuck pigs at having their cozy scams threatened. Few things focus the mind like the possibility of having to actually take a real job!

Enough is Enough
Great article by Jonah Goldberg. He's not afraid to say what he thinks, very un-PC of him and it seems he's getting a good response.

I think it was Scalia who said in his brief about affirmative action recently that for us to stop making race such an issue, we have to stop making race such an issue. K.G. made a great analogy to judging the color of one's skin to the color of one's eyes cause really all we're talking about is how the object reflects light. People 150+ years ago were not as smart as we are because they put too much stock into a person's color rather than his merit. For us to really consider ourselves "progressed" beyond our ancestors (pun intended), we have to grow up, move on, and try and figure out why things are the way they are instead of crying about it.

Let's hope that most voters agree with us when we say "Sen. Obama, we're sick of talking about race, lets talk about something more important."

Well Hitler may have not said that, but then again he may.

I like praising God and doing His will next to any brother or sister from any continent you pick.

Let's have a church potluck too, esp. if you are from Hawaii.

Made me smile
Jonah writes:
Oh, thank goodness Obama fired the starter's pistol in the race to discuss race. Here I'd been under the impression that every major university in the country already had boatloads of courses dedicated to race in America.
--------

How true, I have been hearing race issue since the 1960's, and am sick of it myself.

I got a novel idea
Let us admit we are all racists and the only non racists among us are the ones who refuse to keep talking about this bs

Let's Not Talk About Race
I have a modest proposal. Let's declare a moratorium on talking about race. Civil Rights laws are in place. Let's enforce violations fairly and vigorously and drop the subject for a decade or so.

Let those who keep the race industry going find other employment. Let's just turn a blind eye to racial problems and see what happens.

The hypersensitivity and double standard are insane. Recall the brouhaha a few years ago re: the use of the word "niggardly?" The race baiters cried foul until they were driven to their dictionaries, where they unhappily discovered niggardly is of Scandinavian derivation and means stingy.

I feel sorry for Imus and Dog the Bounty Hunter. I am offended by their language, but I honestly believe they meant no real harm. Dog said he believed he could use the language because he considered himself "a brother." I guess imitation is not the highest form of flattery after all.

People like Wright keep the pot boiling for his own benefit, but his rantings hurt blacks. White people walk around on egg shells, fearing to offend, however innocently. Black people feel free to say outrageously racist things because they were once slaves.

It's nutz. I say give it a rest. For 10 years, let's consider the color of one's skin like all other physical characteristics, like the color or one's eyes or hair. Pretty much irrevelant except to one's dematalogist.

Increasing the conversation about race is poking at the alligators lying just below the surface.

Give it a rest and let's see if race issues will heal through benign neglect. Picking at the scab at this point in time doesn't seem to be helping.

Deja Vu
I think Barak wants us to go back and talk about race as if it were the 70'S AGAIN,
