Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

A Minnesota college student was suspended and ordered to undergo "mental health evaluation" for his response to campuswide e-mails from school officials concerning the Virginia Tech massacre.

The college, Hamline University, a private, liberal-arts institution affiliated with the Methodist Church, has a policy on "Freedom of Expression and Inquiry" that guarantees that Hamline students will be "free to examine and discuss all questions of interest to them and to express opinions publicly or privately."

With such a strong guarantee on students' "freedom from censorship and control" by the university, student Troy Scheffler's e-mail must have been horrifically bad to warrant such a crackdown. Right?

Wrong. What Scheffler did was make a gun-rights case for concealed-carry permits on campus to help ward off potential Cho Seung-Huis before they strike Hamline. This was no monstrous act; in fact, it was in line with public debate across the nation following Cho's rampage, not to mention an issue of perennial debate in America. Many researchers, most notably John R. Lott Jr., have shown conclusively that gun ownership itself wards off crime while laws banning guns lead to increases in crimes. Criminals are less likely to strike if they have reason to believe their prospective victims could be armed.

Scheffler had written in his April 17 e-mail reply to David Stern, Hamline vice president of student affairs, that "Considering this university also pushes 'diversity' initiatives like VA Tech, maybe its 'leadership' will reconsider [Hamline's] ban on conceal carry law abiding gun owners... Ironically, according to a few VA Tech forums, there are plenty of students complaining that this wouldnt have happened if the school wouldnt have banned their permits a few months ago."

He added, "I just dont understand why leftists dont understand that criminals dont care about laws; that is why they’re criminals... Maybe this school will reconsider its repression of law abiding citizens rights."

Two days later, Hamline President Linda Hanson e-mailed the campus about Virginia Tech. Scheffler replied to that e-mail also, expanding upon his comments to Stern.

In both messages, Scheffler made it clear to all but the most hysterically inclined person that his advocacy of concealed-carry permits was to protect the students from criminals. Scheffler recognized that this protection would be afforded primarily by predators' foreknowledge that any one of the students at Hamline could shoot back, but also – given that the administrators had both brought up the VT massacre – by students being able to stop a killing rampage before it got started.

In short, what Scheffler wrote was no preamble to a blood-lusty explosion of violence. At worst it was crude criticism of the university administration combined with a stark assessment of the true risk of a concealed-carry society like Virginia Tech's: total defenselessness against a Columbine-inspired mass murderer. Regardless, it should have been protected by the university's stated policy guaranteeing free expression.

Nevertheless, on April 23 Scheffler received a hand-delivered letter from Dean of Students Alan Sickbert that informed him his e-mails were "deemed to be threatening and thus an alleged violation of the Hamline University Judicial Code" and that he was placed on "interim suspension" to be lifted only after he agreed to a psychological evaluation by a licensed mental health professional.

Scheffler contacted the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, whose service in the cause of liberty in opposition to the petty tyrants populating American academe is invaluable. The history of the case, including the offending e-mails, are viewable on the FIRE's web site (www.thefire.org). Hamline officials say they moved to suspend after Scheffler failed to meet with university officials over his e-mails (he was given less than one full business day to do so) and that he is also the subject of "critical input from various members of the Hamline community" (which was news to Scheffler, nor has he been told of their identities nor given a chance to defend himself against their allegations, whatever they are – if those people exist at all).

The Soviet Union was notorious for psychiatric abuse, the use of psychiatric hospitals for the incarceration of political dissidents. Human Rights Watch accuses the government of China of psychiatric abuse of political activists, whistleblowers, various individuals and especially members of Falun Gong. Declaring dissidence a sign of mental instability is one of the lesser-known tools of the despot.

Psychiatric abuse is not something one expects in America, but it happens. For example, in June, the assistant director of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, Joey Gardner, was suspended without pay and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation after blowing the whistle on DMV Commissioner George Tatum for allegedly seeking help to get his friend a vintage vehicle title for a replica (Tatum later resigned). In 2001, a Temple University student, Michael Marcavage, was involuntarily committed by his university for protesting a campus production of "Corpus Christi," a play that depicts Jesus Christ as a homosexual having carnal relations with his disciples.

In his April 19 e-mail, Scheffler wrote pessimistically, "Im sure this plea of common sense will fall on deaf ears." While the fault wasn't with the ears, as he had predicted, Scheffler's plea did indeed fall on disabled faculties.

Lott said it all
More guns, less crime.

Believe or Not!
In the late 1960's and early 1970's, I had a gun cabinet in my dorm room at Miss. State University. In it was my rifle (both action 7x57mm mauser), my shotgun (Browning Sweet 16), and my pistol (1911A1 .45 cal Colt).

And I wasn't the only student to have guns in his dorm room. I can easily think of more than 20 students in my dorm who also had their guns in their rooms.

I imagine that if I did this today at Hamline University, the administration would want me immediately commited to a mental institution. They probably would not even see the need for me to undergo analysis.

I live in Alaska
Where the people are armed and usually own several guns. You don't even need a permit to carry concealed in this state. For years home-invasions, burglary, robbery were unknown. During the 1970s Pipeline era, some Cheechakos figured our tiny little police force couldn't do anything to stop them, but they quickly found out that Alaskan residents didn't need to call the cops except to clean up the body. We went back to basically crime-free life. A couple of years ago, we had some drug gangs trying to intimate citizens with drive-bys, but most of our citizens are better shots, so that pretty much has died down again. I'm not saying we have no crime, but I am saying that the potential for being shot in the commission of their crime keeps a lot of criminals from committing crime.

This state is clear proof that armed citizens are safer citizens.

Stupid People

The division is getting wider between the citizens who understand the power of the second amendment and the communist who want your guns.

There will come a time when gun owners will stop talking from the lead of a pencil, but have to air mail the message with the lead of a bullet.

Dumb-dumb Democrats...

I love how Democrats support Hitler, Stalin, and Mao's view on the 2nd amendment.

Each of the 3 dictators started taking control, by removing guns from the people...

If Democrats think we're all equal... why wouldn't we be at equal risk from Hitlery????

Democrats just don't get it.
Guns are just tools. Thats it, nothing more. Democrats keep labeling the guns as evil when they should be looking at the people who commit crimes.

Semperfi/par
Coulter said it "If democrats had any brains, they'd be republicans". Life, the world itself, provides a sea of data, which leftwingers have no difficulty in ignoring. Its pointless to add information on this itty bitty thread and expect it to accomplish what total reality over years has failed to do.

Libs want to give more....
rights to the terrorists at Gitmo than to this college student whose concern was for safety of himself and other students.

Guns don't kill. People kill. Bad people will always have guns no matter how many laws are passed. Only law abiding citizens will suffer if disarmed.

College Admins
This incident is a perfect example of where liberalism is taking us. If you don't believe what we believe, of course you are most likely insane. Of course the Administration of the college is so intellectually superior to anyone else on the planet that would contradict their veiws. Not to mention more nobly intentioned than any of the despots who abused the power of declaring insanity. For anyone to even entertain the notion of comparison to the actions of a Stalin, Mao, or Hitler, well you must also be obviously insane as well and we will increase taxes to build hospitals to protect the public from such barbaric thoughts as these.

Bren

The Inmates Are Running The Asylum
The Left operates from the position that self defense is inherently bad at all times. Whether taken at the personal level by the arming of ones self for protection or at the national level by the creation of a strong military. The root of this is the belief that we are not worthy of being protected.

We are the civilization that embodies all that is evil in the world and protecting any part of it, at the personal level or at the national level, is an act that supports that evil. In that the Left demonstrates support for this position in word and action the only justification they can have for not ending their own lives would be the need to carry on the fight against those policies that support our civilization.

And they think Conservatives are mentally ill.

Liberals are quite literally insane-----
For seven years, I took care of my elderly mother until she went on to be with the Lord. One day a social worker came to our home and spoke with us about many things. Among the most interesting things this unusual young lady said was that she had long considered liberalism and its related views to be a type of insanity. I thought that an amazing statement for a social worker to make, and I probably amazed her equally by replying that I had thought that very thing on many occasions over the past 30 years or so myself.

The definition of insanity that has always struck me as being most valid was that of my old psychology, philosophy and theology professor, Dr. John Hermann, who was known to the entire student body as a great genius. Ol' Doc, as we youngsters called him, used to say that being fundamentally out of contact with reality was the best definition of the true nature of insanity. He was saying that you don't have to be screaming unintelligible gibberish or curled into a ball on the floor to be truly insane. Since liberals are fundamentally out of contact with reality as clearly evidenced by Sanders' amazing story and many others of like nature recounted in Ann Coulter's books, they have over many years managed to unalterably define themselves as quite literally insane by ol' Doc's profoundly learned standard.

So, as it turns out, my social worker friend and I have been right about liberals all along. The problem is that we have no way to mercifully institutionalize them.........yet.

Dear Gray Ghost,
I went to Mississippi State in the late 1970's and early 1980's, and had guns in my dorm room too! Used to go hunting in the mornings before school. It's funny to me that the second ammendment is the only ammendment that liberals try and make the argument of "original intent" about.

They can't see their hypocracy
when it slams them in the face! You can say anything and be protected unless we disagree with what you say, then you must be insane and be "evaluated" by a shrink. Liberals are losers of the worst type. Can't ever learn from history that they have been wrong on every issue every time for the last 200 years, if not longer.

Cencureship by another name
Libs can't throw you in jail (yet) for disagreeing with them but they can try to have you institutionalized. The result is the same. Most students just want to get through school get a job & have a rewarding life. School is a means to an end. To the leftists who dominate academia school is the end which is why they are there in the first place. Most students shut up and color within the lines get their degrees and move on but there are a few brave souls who will stand and be counted. Of course libs can't tell them to shut up as it would violate their phony support of free speech. They do the next best thing which is declare them mentaly unstable. When Western civilization melts down these libs will be hiding behind the people who kept their guns.
I am John Doe and will not give up my guns.

Times have changed.
In the early 70s, the High School I attended caught a lot of flames form the local citizenry when they announced that from now on students would only be allowed to bring guns to school during hunting season.

Previously, guns were frequently seen in the back windows of the pick-ups students drove to school.

I don't remember a single student being shot. I don't remember a single fight that resulted in more than a black eye.

High School Memories
Yep, I graduated High School in 1973. It was commonplace for us to bring our firearms to school. If we got a new one for Christmas, birthday, etc., why school was the ideal place to show it off to everyone! There were *no* school shootings or massacres during those times. Zero! Something has indeed changed, but it isn't student possession of firearms.

Hamline's Officials are Lying
This story is covered extremely well by the above opinion and by the write-ups on the FIRE website. However, they both fail to emphasize an essential point. The FIRE website provides access to the actual suspension letter dated April 23, 2007. The opening paragraphs of the letter make it absolutely clear that the sole basis for the actions taken by the school was the "threatening" nature of the e-mails. Thus, this business about the decision to suspend being based, in part, upon "critical inputs" from the community apart from the e-mails, is totally bogus and represents a not very intelligent or artful attempt on the part of the Hamline Administration to cover its backside. Both the above article and FIRE lament the school's refusal to grant the student his due process rights by informing him as to the sources of these critical inputs. I'll bet next month's rent money that the student ain't ever gonna get this info, because these other "critical inputs" don't exist. Methinks these well paid Hamline executives, to whom thousands of parents have entrusted the well-being of their children, are a pack of liers. Gives you a real warm, fuzzy feeling, doesn't it?
The American Academy has truely become the American Gulag. The Hamline case is just this week's featured horror story. The question I have for all you parents of college students, who dutifully send contribution checks to your own alma maters while uncritically casting your children into dens run by intellectually and morally dishonest morons who would make Stalin proud, is, what are you gonna do about it?

Liberals are becoming frightening
I was just talking about this with my husband this morning . . . liberal movie stars go down to see Chavez and think he's the best . . . and completely ignore the fact that he wants to become DICTATOR FOR LIFE! Isn't that against "freedom"? They wear Che shirts and he was so much of a thug that Castro kicked him out! Wasn't Che against "freedom"?

Now this! I hope that young man prosecutes everyone he can regarding this to the fullest extent of the law! This is right up there with Stossel's article about the 4 year old and the 12 year olds getting in trouble for "sexual harassment"!

Like Ann Coulter said, if Democrats had brains they'd be Republicans! Well, I used to be a liberal/democrat in college . . . and then I got a brain! Well, I'm not quite a Republican, but I'm definitely NOT a Democrat or a "liberal" anymore.

I dread this coming election. If Hillary wins and she wants to change the U.S. Constitution to become dictator for life, will the same people that think Chavez is so great support her?

Oooh, I just got the chills!

Just say NO!
Say NO to any law that infringes on your Constitutional right to bear arms. Ive said NO to such laws all my life. I said No as a college student and carried a gun to class for protection, when I lived in an “ethnically diverse” neighborhood. I carried a gun aboard airliners prior to 9/11, when flight crew could bypass security. The world would be a different place if people like me were aboard the aircraft that left Boston that day. And Ive continued to say NO and carry a gun “illegally” ie; without a permit; all of my adult life. I don’t understand why anyone has to ask “Permission” to carry a gun, either from university authorities or any other so called “authority”. No “permission” is required from ANYONE to exercise your 2ed Amendment rights. So refuse to be a victim and JUST SAY NO to Lib mandated laws that deprive you of your right to self defense. Join me in being a habitual “criminal” in defiance of UNCONSTITUTIONAL laws.

Liberals are using the same communist
tactic they used in the old USSR.

Now, if you disagree with lib. cant, you must be crazy and deserve psychiatry--

and then you can look at the psychiatric and psychology disciplines:

at Purdue, psychology majors must pledge to abide by the American Psychology Association (APA), whose ethics advocate for gay marriage and the gay agenda. Anyone who disagrees can be denied certification or recommendations.

So it's a nice little loop. Get diagnosed as emotionally unstable by some ideologue liberal
and then be brainwashed by liberal "help" disciplines. Terrific.

I gotta say
I think I would be looking for a different school and maybe a lawyer. He might have to look hard to find one willing to sue, but I bet he could find one or two!

Hey shaggy wanna go and ride tonight? I promise I will take you up and then go down

Gray Ghost, that you could keep...
...a Sweet 16 (which was valuable in GA by the mid-70s, when I first saw a firearm collection with a set)in your dorm room without fear of it getting stolen, says a lot about how far this country has 'progressed' in some ways since then.

I doubt a shooting spree would have gotten very far at my High School in the early '80s, especially during deer season. Two sides of the school had parking lots. If it lasted more than 5 min., Dekalb County Cops at the time were(they could still be, I don't live there anymore) mostly crack shots that responded fast, in force, would wade right in, and had the sensible policy of not allowing anybody dumb enough to intentionally shoot at them the chance to ever shoot at anybody again.

Separating sense from nonsense
The Hamline University bureaucrats went way over the top in forcing this student to seek counseling. As a liberal I'm appalled that what should be regarded, at worst, as a difference of opinion between the student and the administration has been turned into such a mess by the university. I hope the kid sues and wins, big time.

Not all liberals are anti-gun fanatics; I'm not. My father taught me safe shooting with rifles and shotguns when I was a kid and there were always several in the house. A cousin taught me how to use handguns. However, liberals do have concerns that aren't crazy.

Consider a college population that includes a number of students carrying. I don't think anyone will find it too surprising to say that the judgement of some people in their late teens or very early twenties may often be poor, especially with abundant opportunities for drinking, and (often) intense personal relationships that form and rupture quickly, accompanied by what the kids today call "drama." It's easy for me to imagine disagreements among roomates resulting in gunfights and dead kids, or the same thing happening over boyfriend/girlfriend problems. And think of what happens when that freshman really hates his professor for flunking him on that quiz--a visit to the prof's office and another dead body could be the result. Or, if the prof is me--if my campus allowed people to carry, and students did, so would I--a gunfight in my office results.

I'm not trying to make the standard liberal argument against 2nd amendment rights--I think the 2nd amendment does indeed give Americans rights to own and carry weapons. All I'm trying to do is sketch some bad scenarios and ask people to think through the whole idea of letting students carry on campus.

Ann Coulter
I know I'm off subject, but does anyone else have the trouble I have getting to the comments of Coulter's columns? She has a lot of comments by the time I get to read her. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'm really getting frustrated. I can get to the comments on any other article no matter how many there are, but I can't hers. Any ideas?

Fewer Democrats - less crime
Communists & Nazis (aka Democrats) do nothing to prevent criminals from carrying guns, though they (along with the most organized criminals in America - LAWYERS) do very much to prevent law-abiding citizens the right to carry a weapon to defend themselves from criminals while they (lawyers & Democrats) do little to either keep criminals in true prisons or execute them when they are truely guilty of murder (as it would save taxpayers too much money).

The College official's response
First of all, I believe that when Federal Courts in the 60's and 70's ruled that the acedemics (incl., teachers and administrators)would not be allowed to impose their beliefs and values upon any student, this ruling included this fine institution of haha higher learning. Just as it was legally sanctioned for students to protest the wars past and present, it is also perfectly legal for a student to express his views publicly. Since he is supporting the Constitution by speaking out his personal beliefs, and not infringing anyone elses right to do the same, the that/those Minnisota college administrators should be a)informed of his rights, b) informed of their restrictions, and c) be held just as liable, under the Law, for any attempt to quash his rights, to express their personal viewpoints while acting in their occupational capacities (shows and attempt to impose their personal beliefs and values while acting as college officials. In addition, they should all be examined for any signs of intelligent life.

College name?
Was that Hamline College, or Hemline College?

It's Hamline U. in Minnesota
Read the article, maybe?

Maybe they have a hemline administration.

The First Amendment is only honored by lefties when they're speaking or the idiots they've invited to attack the US (Ahmadinejad) are speaking.

None of the rest of the amendments really mean anything to the left, which is why the ACLU wants the US to be gov'd by the UN and overseas international treaties.

GUN BAN NUTS-A STUDY OF HYPOCRITES
Female gun-ban nuts are the latter-day sisters of suffragettes who wanted women to vote and pushed for Prohibition. Now, feminists want free abortions and a ban on guns.
Male gun-ban nuts are simply ypocites who cry about other peoples' guns but who depend on others with guns to protect THEM.
Case in Point: Ted Kennedy's bodyguards who were caught with two unregistered submachineguns in Washington DC!

GUN BAN NUTS-INSANE HYPOCRITES
Sen. Ted Kennedy's bodyguards were caught with two unregistered submachineguns.
Feminist gun ban kooks want free abortions. Just like suffragettes wanted women to vote and wanted to ban alcohol.
Male gun ban nuts depend on armed police to protect them and live in gated communities.

Read the actual emails Scheffler sent.
He comes off as creepy, incoherent, and more than a little threatening. I am very pro-gun, and if I were an administrator, I would definitely have called him into my office:

"Look, you idiot, you're making all of us other RKBA people look like morons. Stop it, and think before you whack 'send'. Think about not going to class for awhile until this blows over. Get out of my office."

LewRockwell.com paints him as an innocent college student who sent out a well-reasoned, polite letter in support of and got unjustly smacked down. His emails show him as an incoherent loony gun owner that I sure wouldn't want to sit in class next to.

Here are the links to him emails:

Here are some quotes:

Quote:
there may be people on the edge ready to snap. I cant say I blame them, I myself am tired of having to pay my own extremely overpriced tuition to make up for minorities not paying theirs. On top of that, I am sick of seeing them held to a different standard than the white students (Of course its a lower and more lenient standard).

Quote:
Now it is obviously better but just goes to show how biased this university is and the painstaking efforts of diversity pandering it does at the expense of people that are actually planning on contributing back to the TAXPAYERS that are footing the bill for your iversity initiatives. In fact, 3 out of 3 students just in my class that are “minorities” are planning on returning to Africa and all 3 are getting a free education ON MY DOLLAR. I bet the staff here is wondering how a swastika ended up in a bathroom... More people than you can imagine are tired of this all.

Gestell
Your argument about students carrying guns is based on a totally false assumption. There is no State in the union that allows anyone under 21 to obtain a CCW permit and in most States are required to go through testing to show competency and a background check to weed out the criminals and unstable types. So therefore pretty much any student who did acquire a permit would be a senior or someone doing post grad work. Those people are generally pretty stable and not very likely to go off the deep end because of minor problems in their lives. Another point is that many of those who would seek a CCW permit would tend to be veterans. Not only do former military people know how to handle firearms safely but they tend to be calmer and due to the extent of their training are much more likely to be able to defuse a potentially deadly situation. Your reasoning is not well thought through or you would've already figured this out.

I tried to connect to the website, but they may be getting swamped. If your quotes are accurate and verbatim, then Scheffler appears immature. He also expresses himself poorly for the typical college student. No, strike that last one. I suppose that his writing ability is all too typical. Oh well, he must be a victim of the public schools. LOL

I agree with you. I would be leery of having him as a dorm mate. I'm a gun owner myself and a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment. We should choose our battles carefully and not provide ammunition to the gun grabbers by supporting the wrong causes.

I think that a DD Form 214 should be all that you need to obtain a concealed carry permit in the states that allow it. If the government trained and trusted you with firearms, you should be free to carry as a civilian. It's a benefit that should go automatically to those that serve in uniform.

this is a violation of the
this is a violation of the constitution of the united states and the freedom of this person and the admisistration should be looked at and the student his giving freedom of speach and right to bear arms and the sad thing is that is liberalism and socialism all what these administrators are liberals and socilist they need there head examined and see what the constitution means.

Hell Hath No Fury Like A gun Grabber
People That Carry Are As Safe AS Cops
One of the main problems with our society is that they equate the law abiding citizen with a gun to the criminal on the street with a gun To them a gun is a gun no matter whose hand that it’s in.

If a carpenter is walking down the street with a hammer in his hand, and a crazy man is walking down the street hitting people in the head with a hammer, you can’t equate the carpenter with the mad man.

A firearm is a tool. It has no evil intent of its own. It is the evil mind that turns it into an evil instrument.

Concealed carry is not going to influence the mind set one way or another.
A license is not going to make any difference if I intend to do evil.

A concealed carrier is a rational human being, who understands that he lives in a violent society. He also understands the great responsibility that goes with carrying a firearm.

We are not people running around looking for trouble. I fear this politically correct society more than I fear the criminal. I fear being put in jail by one of these over zealous prosecutors more than I fear the thug on the street. Do you think that I want to shoot someone?

That’s why I say that the last thing that our society needs to fear is an armed law abiding citizen.

Some people are afraid of all those high capacity guns. Are you aware that in a justifiable shooting that the number of shots fired can make the difference of whether you go to prison or don’t.

Are you aware that someone with a concealed carry permit can only use the force necessary to defend an attack? You can only stop the attack. Everyone with a concealed carry permit knows that.

Some of these liberals keep visualizing all these people carrying guns getting drunk and shooting up the place. Not gonna happen! If it ever did happen the person is going to jail and never be allowed to possess a firearm again.

The Public Needs Educating
The Public Needs Educating
This is what gets me the most with those who oppose to law abiding citizens carrying guns.

I can own a gun; I can carry a gun in my vehicle. If I had criminal intent, the law would not prevent me from carrying anywhere I wanted to.

I as a law abiding citizen go to the trouble of applying for a permit, go through the background check, take the training, and pay the state all the fees.

I am issued a permit that virtually allows me to carry in my vehicle, on the public street, but no where else that is prohibited, which are most places.

That means that I am force to not carry, or leave the weapon in the vehicle where it is easy prey for theft. I have already had a weapon stolen from my vehicle which was fortunately recovered.
Do you know what the thief received; probation. The rest of the stuff that he stole was just my loss.

I’m tired of restriction on concealed carry. If the state says that I have a right to be armed, and I have jumped through all of there hoops, I should be able to carry without restrictions.

Those who are afraid of law abiding citizens who are licensed to carry need to understand that license to carry is not a license to shoot. License to carry does not give me anymore freedom to use my weapon than if I didn’t have a license.

There are enough laws to bury a citizen in prison for many years for improper handling of a firearm, license or no license.

I have qualified for the right to carry. I should be able to carry anywhere I want unrestricted.
Statistics have proven that those who carry legally are responsible carriers.
Statistics have proven that states with conceal carry have reduced crime, even in spite of the restrictions.

Laws need to be changed. State legislators don’t have the courage to do what right.

Liberals aren't crazy
In order to understand the method to their madness you have to look at Liberalism for what it is: it is NOT a philosophy - It is a TACTIC OF DOMINATION via subversion: They are full of baloney and they know it. Their ultimate goal is to dominate by disempowerment. They do this with constant pleas of concession in the name of equality. The temptation is to take them at face value since some of these concessions are quite valid - but the net result is that YOU, the target lose power. That power has to go somewhere, so they snap it up. Thus they dominate. They have you whipped - it's too clever to view rationally. That's the tactic of the Liberal. Their inherent hypocracy is the only place they are vulnerable, so they impose a blackout on all forms of dissent from every medium they can seize. When they finally DO control, they deliver only a bloodbath. That's why they hate your guns: They have plans for you. Anyone who thinks Communism is dead hasn't been to a University campus lately. It's alive and well and hoping you'll stay asleep. You'll no doubt find that the faculty member who ordered this student mentally evaluated is a member of the Communist Party USA. That's their standard protocol for silencing a dissident - and just an appetizer of the stew you'll choke on if they take over.

To Gestell
Thank you for a post full of common sense.
I am impressed that when the subject of guns comes up on townhall, we enjoy a Happy Fantasy Festival. All fantasies of success are are true. Every gun owner is an ace sniper who can take out a bad guy with one well-placed head shot. Every such shot stops a massacre. Nobody is injured in crossfire. No weapon is ever stolen and misused by the wrong person. No policeman ever dashes into the scene of the confrontation and mistakes the armed good guy for a bad guy and shoots him dead. No bad guy ever disarms the good guy. No good guy shooter ever panics and shoots the wrong person. And all gun owners are good guys.

Lilly
Please consider the result if for some reason you were forced by circumstance to carry a firearm on your person. Who would be threatened by this situation? Me? Some passerby? Family members? Would you leave it lying around where a 5 year old could pick it up and discharge it? I doubt any of these things would occur. I do not fear a firearm in your hands (if trained in safe handling) or in the hands of any law-abiding person. I doubt you fear a gun in such hands either. Correct me if i am wrong, you fear abuse of firearms by reckless or criminal persons. First, these persons do not need a gun to be dangerous. Knives, clubs, explosives and poison are impossible to keep out of their hands. Moreover, guns are easy and profitable to smuggle and de facto, anyone in the world with a couple hundred dollars can own a firearm. Big city police the world over confiscate hundreds of thousands of guns a year. Law-breakers hardly hesitate to break gun laws. Firearms crimes do not decrease when so-called gun control laws are introduced. Many instances of dramatic drops in crime have been noted when availability increased. I know of no case where a gun control law reduced crime. Perhaps you do. I'd be glad to hear about it.

Maybe it was'nt his comments about guns
When I read Mr. Scheffler's emails to the University administration, I noted that he saved his greatest annoyance for the mandatory 'diversity' programs, being derided by professors and administrators through these 'diversity' programs as an 'evil, privileged white male' and the lack of a Christian education at a so-called Christian university since many of the professors are atheists, Jews or non-Christian. That's a fair point, BTW, since Hamline University advertises itself as a Christian university. He also complains about Hamline's 'overpriced' tuition. Then, he says that their anti-gun policy is nonsense. All of these statements would convince a college administrator that any student who did not agree with leftist diversity goals, questioned the value he was getting for his money by attending Hamline and who wanted to allow qualified people to carry a GUN, just has to be insane. Afterall, if you don't accept Liberal dogma, you have to be nuts.

If I were going to go back to school, I wouldn't mind having him for a roommate; I had worse roommates when I was in college.

Savage99 Re: Lilly
Perhaps you’re unaware of the Infamous Lilly who’s plagued TH for the past year. But your wasting you time attempting to use logic with this Extreme leftist. She'll only respond to those with “soft criticism”. If you hit her with Hard facts and logic, as you have, she wont respond. Lilly is sometimes referred to as “The Sea Gull”. She drops a load of S**T and then flies away. She’s just a joke on TH best IGNORED.

Good sense comment.
I've been trying to tell the lady this for a week.

Do nothing and face the carnage, take action and minimize the damage.

Why dredge up the boogie man before the time.

All these arguments about what may happen. Just get the people carrying proper training.

Find out what the Israelis training program involves.

Don’t be foolish enough to take 25 yard shots unless you are very proficient at that kind of shooting. In other words, know your limitations.

Psychological evaluation?

Couldn't say any more than that.....
