Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

A July 17 post on ABCNews.com's "Blotter" reported that the FBI is investigating a human-smuggling ring that for over a year has been bringing "Iraqis and other Middle Eastern" individuals across the United States/Mexico border.

According to the report from the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force obtained by ABC, the smugglers were getting $20,000 to $25,000 per Middle Eastern brought across the Rio Grande into the U.S.

Clearly, Middle Eastern terrorists migrating into this country are here because only they are willing to do the jobs Americans won't. After all, the role of suicide attacker has been known to Americans since at least World War II, but it is a position that still goes largely unfilled within the U.S. For whatever reason, Americans just refuse to strap bombs to themselves to set off in buses, pizzerias, nightclubs, or other public gathering spots. That is true despite the fact that such detonations spark a flurry of economic activity in rebuilding, as shown by the Broken Windows, Cratered Streets theory of economic growth.

Ironically, this news treads heavily on the heels of the Senate's defeated "Don't-Call-It-Amnesty" Amnesty Bill, which was bi-partisan legislation championed by Pres. George W. Bush, the Senate's Democrat leadership, and such prominent Republicans as Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham. Americans, however, opposed the DCIA Amnesty Bill by a 4-to-1 margin – ostensibly because of national security issues, but actually because they're all just ignorant, xenophobic, racist yokels who want to trash the nation's economy.

That being the case – which it must be, since it was affirmed by Washington elites on both sides of the aisle – no doubt Americans also oppose helping this new crop of undocumented citizens to come out of the shadows. We are receiving a new minority underclass already disqualified from reaping the full bounty of the American dream, despite whatever they contribute to others, sons and daughters of immigrants themselves (at least those who happen to be out of the blast range).

If anything, the FBI report underscores how the status quo on immigration is unacceptable. No efficient mechanism exists to match the willingness of Middle Eastern individuals crossing the borders with all the jihads Americans won't do. Some are no doubt falling through the cracks. They are the ones forced to pay the consequences of our callous inaction.

As long as they remain in the shadows, we will not know the full extent of those problems, nor will we be able to realize the untapped economic potential of these undocumented citizens. And doing nothing is simply not an option. Nor is policing the borders nor putting any emphasis on deportation of those caught breaking other laws, including laws against conspiring to commit murder. In particular, "Catch and Release" policies are impractical and harmful to our economy. It may be true that the supermajority of presently legal U.S. citizens favor catching without releasing, but the compassionate path is a "Don't Catch, Don't Tell" policy that keeps in place orderly channels for incoming jihadists to find meaningful work.

At present, because nothing was done about the DCIA Amnesty Bill, they must remain in the shadows. That means that they also have to rely on "coyotes," professional human-smuggling rings likely to cram them uncomfortably into the bottom of 18-wheelers and so forth just to make a profit. And since the Middle Easterners can each drop up to 25 large on the coyotes, the lower-paying Hispanics who would do the other jobs Americans won't are being left behind to find their own ways to sneak across the border and live in the shadows. These facts cannot help our standing in the world's economy.

In short, jihadists cross the borders into America with their dreams and aspirations of inflicting violence and mayhem on people who they're not even allowed to call fellow citizens. Widespread, vociferous opposition to the DCIA Amnesty Bill set back legislative action on the border for another two years, because the president and Congress in their collective wisdom found it impossible to separate border security from other issues surrounding illegal immigration. Sadly, America has turned its back on these tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to blow free.

Secure the Border
One more reason to press for securing the borders. Why wait for an attack before doing anything? Once the borders are secure let's focus on interior enforcement. Start with tracking down all those folks who have overstayed their student visas.

We do need to limit immigration from Islamic countries, but don't count on it happening. This is for the same reason that Hussein and Grandma get the same treatment at the airport. The PC police.

Wasn't there a Supreme Court Justice who said during WW II that the constitution is not a suicide pact? We need that guy back.

John Konop
You write: "The White House tells us the “surge” is working and attacks are down. The only problem is the reality, of course, is far different in Iraq according to the Pentagon statistics."

Actually it is the men in the field who say the surge is working. That doesn't mean fewer attacks or deaths. It means that they are maiking visable progress and the Iraqies are pointing out the insurgents, their "safe houses" and IED locations.

These people have been through a lot even before the war and they are very cautious about being on the losing side. They know what is likely to happen to them if we pull out and leave them to the "hard liners".

The only reason we are still in Iraq is that the war has been dragged out by the traitors in our own congress. The militant Islamists know that they will win if they can just outlast the political fight in the US.

Every time the traitorist Democrats raise their voice about withdrawal, the bad guys in Iraq have new hope and a reason to keep fighting.

The Democratic leadership in congress are so power hungry, cynical and so hateful of GWB they actually WANT us to lose in Iraq because they see that as the way to get their power back.

Michael Medved said it well: "The Democrats don't hate Bush because of the war. The hate the war because of Bush."

If 9/11 had happened during Clintons administration and he had taken similar action, you would be rooting for us to stay and win.

The anti-war left talks about the number of American lives lost as though that were the reason for their crocodile tears. The truth is that we have never before been in a conflict of this magnitude with so little loss of life on our side. If indeed the loss of life is so terrible, why are they not crying about the 35,000 to 40,000 needless deaths we suffer EVERY YEAR on our highways right here in the US? And, remember, we don't have a draft like we did in Viet Nam.
