Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Howard Dean wants Republican presidential candidates to apologize for Ann Coulter's insinuation that Edwards is a "faggot." Granted, it is popular among Democrats to have third parties apologize for someone else's actions, but in this case, "reparations for Coulter" shouldn't stop at GOP presidential wannabe's.

Conservatives at large should consider apologizing, too. There was wisdom in Edwards' reaction to Coulter's comment: "I think it's important that we not reward hateful, selfish, childish behavior with attention. I also believe that is important for all of us to speak out against language of this kind; it is the place where hatred gets its foothold, and we can't stand silently by and allow this kind of language to be used." (For the record, there's no truth to the rumor that Edwards has offered to hire Coulter as campaign blogger.)

As Aristotle observed ages ago, a satirical jest that lacks foundation in truth is false wit. And Coulter's crack was false wit. To paraphrase Billy Bob Thornton's character in Slingblade, Edwards is funny ha-ha, not funny queer.

So here's how such an apology could sound:

Dear Howard Dean,

I'm very sorry about the remarks made recently by Ann Coulter about John Edwards. She should not have resorted to an ugly slur in the first place. Furthermore, she certainly shouldn't have done so when there are plenty of other ways to discuss Edwards that are legitimate, devastating, and funny.

Sure, the man has a hair fixation and a deftness with a makeup compact that most red-blooded American men don't; however, those things make poor subjects for political discourse and should be left to the yuksters of late-night TV. Coulter and others should discuss the salient matters surrounding Edwards, which never cease to amuse. Such as:

He's a union lickspittle who just told college janitors protesting for higher pay that they're the next civil rights movement. That is grade-A hilarity right there.

His union-pandering has led him into numerous, risible moments involving Wal-Mart. Remember the time he promoted his book at the Manchester, N.H., Barnes & Noble instead of the Wal-Mart next door, because he says Wal-Mart doesn't pay employees enough? The Manchester Union Leader pointed out that at $7.50 an hour, the Wal-Mart paid employees more than the Barnes & Noble, which paid at $7 an hour. And guess who said that the minimum wage should be at $7.50 an hour (i.e., Wal-Mart wages)? John Edwards!

I don't care who you are, that's funny.

Even better, remember the day the Sony PlayStation 3 was released? When an unpaid volunteer for John Edwards called the Raleigh N.C., Wal-Mart to try to get a PlayStation 3 for him -- cutting in front of all those people waiting in line in the process? And when Wal-Mart called him on it, the company's press release included the comment that "While we cannot guarantee that Sen. Edwards will be among one of the first to obtain a PlayStation3, we are certain Sen. Edwards will be able to find great gifts for everyone on his Christmas list – many at Wal-Mart's 'roll-back prices'"?

You'd have to watch a "Three Stooges" clip to see more pies in the face than that.

How about his press conference in front of a house in New Orleans, where he put in a brand-new, never-before-used spade into the ground long enough to announce for president? What a picture of Democrat charity! Churches all over the United States are sending people to Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama to do the actual work of rebuilding the devastated areas, and this guy makes a show of doing work while promising he'll do more, but only if you first make him president – and then he'll take your money to do it!

That's yet another rip-snorter.

Or what about the practical joke he pulled on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill? Shortly after losing in 2004, he agreed to head a new center to "study" poverty, promised "innovative and practical ideas" about solving the problem, and did nothing for two years but campaign across the country and talk about increasing the minimum wage.

Rumor from Chapel Hill has it that university officials, tired of hearing it from everyone else, are still waiting for Ashton Kutcher to tell them they've been "Punk'd."

Oh, and what about all his talk about the "two Americas" and taking care of the environment — all the while clear-cutting land for his gigantic "duplex" (one half housing his very own basketball court, swimming pool, and squash court)? According to Don Carrington of Carolina Journal, at 1,762 square feet by itself, "John's lounge" could house nine and a half UNC "poverty centers" (after all, just one of those campaign-life-support sweetheart deals takes up only 185 square feet).

After his giggling fit subsided, even Al "Carbon Footprint" Gore would be jealous of that much personal hypocrisy.

In short, Coulter's remark was ugly, gratuitous, and worthless. She could have leveled far more substantial -- and entertaining -- hits on John Edwards than what she said. For that we offer our sincere apologies and hopes for greater political discourse.

Warmest regard,

American conservatives

Karl Rove Slime Symposium
I see you also graduated from the Karl Rove Slime Symposium, along with Ann Coulter, and the Swift Boat morons. There should be a rule that Ann Coulter is only allowed to appear on Fox News, with her fellow slimers - Kristol, O'Reilly, and Hume. She makes her idol Joe McCarthy look like a moderate. At least the Republican candidates for president have denounced her vile comments - they do have a minimal set of values.

No Apologies Necessary
When Robert Byrd called people "niggers" on national TV, the Democrats rushed to defend this as an understandable thing for him to say. Not one of them denounced him for it, apologized to those offended by it, or called on him to resign, even though he is a sitting U.S. Senator.

Ann Coulter is a comedian as much as she is a pundit, and while her attempt at humor was ham-fisted, it was less offensive than what Byrd did for the simple reason that John Edwards is in the business of politics and should be prepared for people saying nasty things about him, whereas Byrd was maligning countless people whose only sin was to fall below his personal standards in one category or another.

That this is a story is amazing enough. That this is a story here, with allegedly conservative people feeling they have to make up for what Coulter said, is disgusting.

My mother said
about Teddy Kennedy: "He isn't worth a pimple on his brothers backsides!" could also apply to Edwards thinking he is the second coming of JFK or RFK.

Second Coming
Sen.Edwards thinks he is the second coming of JFK! The hair and looks he feels will get him elected to the White House. Ole Ann may just be right about him.

Will's problem
You have bought into the notion that words do not have definitions. A great example is the use of the word NIGGARDLY has nothing to do with race yet liberals will accuse people that use the word of being racist.

So too, context provides better meaning than a 10 second sound bite. Previously Miss Coulter had made several jokes about the other Democratic presidential candidates and then the infamous sound bite about Edwards. Factually, she stated that she couldn't comment because she would have to enter rehab (common escape route when liberals say their real thinking) if she used the word faggot. How about we drop some more context like the FACTS that Edwards is married with children thereby the ASSUMED definition taken by liberals is there choosing not based on the FACTS and CONTEXT of the remark.

Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
Why shouldn't conservatives hit modern liberals/progressives - often engaged in a veritable persecution of all those who prefer a different scope of view!(Carlton J. H. Hayes called them appropriately enough 'sectarian liberals')- with curses that they themselves had to endure for so many years.

No, conservatives should not apologize. To the contrary, they should hit those "Permissives" (a better description than "Progressives" for today's liberals any way) much more. Today's Liberals are spoiled crybabies. They have been getting their way in the major media for decades; never been inhibited in the slightest by moral considerations, especially when using offensive curses referring to conservatives and their policies (im my country I am called a cockroach).

Moreover, terms such 'racist' and 'xenophobe'are leftist establishment curse words. Not only are they false and unsavory to conservatives, but today's liberals can use these expletives - to describe conservatives - routinely, and..... they don't get called down for it by the major(of course leftist) media!

will -post of 12:02 PM

What has gotten into you tonight?

Why all the expletives all of a sudden?

Come on. You can do better and I know it.

Roy

There is a lot none of us know about Obama. What I have seen so far makes him too inexperienced to deal with the global situations as they exist today.

The MSM has given him a pass so far. No one really knows what his position is on a number of issues. He wouldn't even let the Press in for his recent fund-raising event in Los Angeles.

Yes, he has rounded up a impressive list of supporters, most of whom were in Hillary's camp not too long ago. Checking out who those people are and the positions they hold will tell you a lot more about him. I am sure they are supporting Obama so that he will carry their water for them.

What surprises me is how he has Hillary chasing him all over the country believing that if she does, he will not get too far out in front of her.

will

Your post of 10:17 is quite strange.

If I understand it correctly, you write a post using five abbreviated obscenities and then ask if Jesus would approve of Ann?

You say, "If you say yes, he does, toss your Bibles, you are not worthy.

You, Sir, are a hypocrite of the first order.

will

At least you found out that the basis of her principles is not money.

Now, I find that very refreshing. I doubt if she is really concerned about her sponsors on her web site. They most likely came to her, not the other way around.

Cable Guy Gets It
Loved the Cable Guy references. That's some funny stuff right there, tell you what, if you don't think that's funny you need to get outta here. Gitter done Jon.

K.C.
OUTSTANDING POST.

It's about d*mn time we pulled off the gloves and started using the libs rules again them. Johh Leftwards is without a doubt a prissy little libby girlie-boy.

I have NO DOUBT that his mommy has pics of him wearing a dress as a small liberal-in-training.

The libs can go stuff themselves.

Roy
Sorry to bust your bubble but I posted a story on my blog concerning Obama buying stocks and then using his position to push their positions within the Beltway. So much for being "clean".

I sure do like the way the libs are draining that swamp.

BTW, I did not see anything in your post mentioning race warlords like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who work to fan the flames of racism, WHICH, BTW, is far more evident in the black race than the white one these days.

Coulter is just a mean, unfunny kook
It's hard to understand why Coulter is popular among conservatives. Many of them bemoan the decline of common courtesy in American life, yet they defend her outrageous, simple-minded, and false slanders, slurs, and smears that seem to make this wild woman popular. I'm not sure whether her main interest is in getting attention or making money - likely both.

As an Independent, I'm still looking over Edwards to see if he might make a decent president. His personal appearance has nothing to do with his qualifications, anymore than the personal appearance of Reagan, Clinton, Bush, etc. I like some of his message and his personal story, but I can't quite come to admire him, at least not yet.

At the moment I'm torn between Hagel (R) and Obama (D). I would like to vote Republican (my heritage), and Hagel has shown guts in opposing that stupid war in Iraq resulting from (1) arrogance; (2) ignorance; (3) oil, though our biggest imports of oil are from Canada and Mexico, only a small % from Middle East; (4) Israel - I'm pro-Israel, but also pro-Palestinian, and US desperately needs to be genuinely both, and (5) military-industrial profiteers who send young people to be killed as they fill their pockets. Makes me furious.

Obama may be inexperienced, but that is not always bad. The longer folks hang around D. C. the more corrupt they seem to become. What I like most about Obama (so far) is that he might just be the one to help heal the racial wounds that still fester in the USA - mostly from sad white bigots and blacks whose angry often makes them bigoted, too.

Moreover, the election of Obama might help a lot in our international standing and our war on terrorism. I believe I read recently that only Israel is more despised around the world than we are. Electing a man of mixed racial and religious heritage (though he's a Christian) would help moderate Muslims and others see that we are what we claim to be, a democracy where everyone has an opportunity to rise upward. That could strike a hard blow against Muslim crazies and their anti-US propaganda. On the other hand, I'm waiting to see how the Obama campaign shapes up.

Keep smiling.

MyOpine
Hey ! I was the first to apologize !

No more PC!
I can only wish more journalists could appropriately speak the truth of their mind. The Left certainly does not mince their words. It is just they can not find truthful words which have a "negative" use in our society for which to use against their opposites!

We must put up with the Left's rants now it is time for them to put up with some truthful reflections!

Go Ann Go!

Bleeding Heart Liberal
See that's the problem with you libtards. Despite all of the b.s. you all spout about tolerance etc. the first thing out of your intolerant little pottymouth is a shot at the "white Christian" party. You guys are so full of it. I happen to think being white and being Christian are good things. I do not apologize for that. I'll bet you're a little white, guilt ridden atheistic liberal yourself. I do not condone what Coulter said but it is certainly no more intolerant than the stuff I hear coming from any number of Dimocrats on a regular basis and it doesn't even come close to what I can hear from Bill Maher or any comedian on BET talking about whitey. You guys are always talking up the homos yet it's always been a favorite smear of the left when they want to destroy someone (ie. Hoover, McCarthy, etc)However when someone on their side gets called faggot you freak out. Libdolts are so two-faced. The only thing that keeps that from being obvious to the party members is their obvious low IQ as demonstrated by you BHL.

Go Ann
My restitution for Ann's remark was to donate $100.00 to a Conservative runnning against that lying Republican Rick Keller in Florida. I will vote for and support anyone who takes on the left like Ann C.

I'm tired of being called names and having Conservatives compared to everything but good.

Fight Back.

KC

Horrible misunderstanding...
You see, Ann was just calling Mr. Edwards a tasty British meatball made from pig heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon that is mixed with herbs for added flavor. Seriously, who doesn't immediately think yummy when they hear that? Ann didn’t mean for the comment to be negative. In fact she was just trying to say that Mr. Edwards is downright scrumptious. She thinks he is so scrumptious that she is afraid she could become addicted to him and eventually have to go to rehab to kick her John Edwards habit.

Stooping
I'm not a fan of AC's, but I have read a couple of her books. She wastes no time in cutting to the chase. I think the remark was uncalled for and is "stooping" to the likes of Edwards bloggers, both of which he did fire! I can't see her apologizing, and I agree with NAM65-66, she will laugh all the way to the bank with a new book.

Take back the language,
. . and the problem is solved. No homosexual should ever be called anything but homosexual. If the use of a term originally defined as small bundle of sticks often used for fuel is offensive when applied to a contemptable woman or a homosexual, lets just call them by their correct name. No more "gay" either. I suppose Lesbos residents might appreciate their designation being freed from the connotation it acquired from the writings of Sappho, as well, so hence I will mean happy and light-hearted when I say gay, and I will mean a citizen of the island of Lesbos, when I say lesbian. A homosexual, by any other name, is simply a thief of the language, and I will no longer knuckle under to such highjacking.

As to Ann, its already been said, but I'll say it again: the joke was about the propensity of liberals to go into rehab any time they slip and actually say what they think, if someone should imply they were offensive. I beleive she illustrated her point superbly!

Oh forgot to add
Perhaps Ann should apologize for Not using an incorrect term. Remember that she said she couldn't comment on Edwards because she would have to enter rehab if she used the term faggot. This incident probably has our British friends wondering what the big deal is about calling Edwards a "cigarette butt" which is their definition of the slang faggot. Instead of NOT using that f-word for Edwards perhaps she should have used the term used by the current CA governator and called him a GIRLIE-MAN. Now that would have been much more appropriate.

WHO cares?
youmakemelaugh2 writes: "...WHO cares?"

Would that be the "World Health Organization cares or perhaps the White House Operations cares or maybe even Whining Hippie Oldtimer cares!

Which WHO are you talking about?

Wingo
Do you think Ann saw this before her remark?
Priceless

Ann Coulter's Comments
If Howard Dean wants an apoloigy - Talk to Ann!! The entire Republican Party is not responsible for coments made by an individual regardless of their position!!! His demands are rediculas but seemly appropriate considering the source.

Wasna support for Rudy
We started using that term for Ba11$ back when Rudy implemented his "Broken Window" policy. I just still use it today because it's fun.

jaydee
...except for the fact that wussy-face rudy apologized FOR Ann. If he wants my vote hed better get on his knees and start...

censor this chump face
When the pity party for Edwards is over he will have earned the title Ann Coulter bestowed upon him.... Its only a small step up from "metrosexual"

What a shame
I think it is a crying shame when the best man in the Republican party is a Woman.

It seems to me she's the only one out there with the Giulianis to stand up to the Democrats and their grab at redefining our language to their own advantage.

I do beleive P.J. O'Rourke was right when he said, "We have two parties in America... The Evil party, and The Stupid party."

John Edwards is NOT gay...maybe bi?
we should remenber this is a chick talking about a dude...maybe Ann saw something we didnt. HA HA! but seriously...

calling someone faggot just doesnt have any panache anymore... kids call each other faggot in second grade. Now maybe if Ann had called edwards poopy-pants...

My apology to Jon Sanders
Dear Jon Sanders,

I'm sorry that you've been living in a cave since December of '06, and so weren't able to understand the joke Ann Coulter made at CPAC.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to figure out that she wasn't really implying that John Edwards is a homosexual, but was merely casting a well-deserved aspersion on his masculinity while poking fun at Isaiah Washington in particular and political correctness in general.

I'm also deeply sorry that you're unable to see the irony of the fact that your column complaining about Ms. Coulter's column actually illustrates her point.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I'm sorry you don't have the guts to stick up for a fellow conservative who's receiving unfair attacks for trying to make a valid point without sugar-coating it.

MyOpine
Amen !

No one wants to apologize so I will.
I am deeply sorry Ann Coulter "OUTED" JOHN EDWARDS!
She should have used less slang and more tact.

Chairman Mao -
YOU ROCK !!

It was sooo terrible that Edwards
thought he was called a faggot. Everyone knows that he's just a wussy with a capital "P".

Speakinf of New Orleans
New Orleans, still rebuilding; MS, AL, and TX rebuilt and still taking care of NO's refugees. The "first responders" were supposed to be the state, Parish and state. They sat and waited, thinking this hurricane will miss them too.

Re the car Kimberly was talking about, with all the makeup I couldn't be sure, but it looked like Edwards, Gore, Moore, and Mahr. Oh well .

Apology?
Sure, Ann Coulter should apologize, right after John "Slippery" Kerry apologizes to each and every one of our wounded veterans for his outrageous, cruel, distasteful and traitorous remarks against them, and our entire military. And let's not forget his charming comment about "Mary Cheney, a lesbian..." during the presidential debates. I understand even the hardest and toughest MSM reporters almost fainted dead away when they heard him say that.

justnotright
Re: "real news."

Note that Iraq dominated the news cycle until the troop surge began. The Anna Nicole Smith died and Ann said a "bad word," so that is what we get to hear about.

Little or nothing from Iraq.

Why not?

Because the troop surge is working.

In way of Apology
I just went to Amazon.com and bought two of her books to give as presents to a Liberal friend.

Conservative Commentary - Ann Coulter
Dear Sir:
You waste our time, and yours. You, and others, have taken the 'faggot' remark out of context while ignoring the multiple denotations and connotations of the word.
Mr. Edwards certainly does sound like a maternalistic 'old woman'. Ann Coulter said that was what she meant. Leave it at that.
Forget the over emotional hypersensitivity and concentrate on the topics that pertain to the issues, like the balance of your article.

Regards;
Dwight Broadstone

The true tragedy
Everyone knows Ann only makes these comments to put herself in the spotlight - and it ALWAYS works.

The tragedy is that it distracts from the substance of her writing. People who could be swayed to the right will never read her work because of her "hateful" rhetoric, so she ends up preaching to the choir.

I, for one, can't wait for her column tomorrow. I have a feeling it will be a barn-burner.

Stalinist Trials
In Soviet Russia Zinoviev and Kamenev where put on trial for having improper thoughts.

Eventually they were executed. So was Trotsky

In Communist Cuba, Korea and Viet-Nam one can be turn into a non person for having "reactionary thoughts."

It seems the left envies Stalin, Castro, Le Duc Tho and Kim Jong Il for their power to regulate public language.

It is not rare for a communist cadre to have to go into rehab after taking the wrong side of the argument in a political discussion at the Politburo.

Given the histerical reaction to Ann Coulter comments; I wonder how long before we start having thought tribunals in this country?

Ann Coulter Is My Hero!!
Ms Coulter speaks her mind, exposing truths, that anger the Dem's to no end! A laugh at the expense of a Democrat is nothing compared to the venom spewing from their mouths on a non-stop basis, with not much attention being paid to truth, nor accuracy!!
Apology? I think NOT!!

DavidMac
"I suggest we think up another word to call the homos." Shame on you; this is just an invitation for other haters to weigh in with terms like "pillow biters", "rump rangers", or "pole smokers". I for one will not stand for this! I intend to report you to the Gunny and have him decide your fate. Good day, sir.

Name Calling
I believe Ann Coulter was wrong and I saw nothing witty about her portrayal of John Edwards as a faggot. At the same time I believe this was a logical outcome of the vitriol that is present in this country today. One person calls another a name. The other responds with a worse name. That escalates ten-fold and suddenly someone calls someone a name that all recognize to be "in poor taste." My belief is that all name calling from the very beginning was in poor taste.

My primary objection is the response by the press was, as always, one sided. Yes, Ann Coulter considered it a witty comment to associate John Edwards with the term faggot but I am more than equally offended by the portrayal of the president as a liar by persons who themselves have been often identified as willing to consider truth to be a relative thing.

Does Ann Coulter owe John Edwards an apology? Probably. But if she is smart she will simply allow the issue to drop and in the future recognize that it will be her comments of this nature that will make the press and not the comments of people like Bill Maher who expressed disapproval that Ariana Huffington removed from her blog those vile regrets that the terrorist Taliban failed in its mission to assassinate our Vice President. If the issue is truly free speech then all words of condemnation are acceptable including Ann Coulter's use of the term faggot. There should be no right created in this country to not be offended but regardless, I'll call for an end to all tasteless diatribes whether they emanate from the right or from the left.

Ann Coulter's Joke
We see you've joined the left in its inability to understand plain English as well as pulling one line out of context and running with it. Shame on you.

So Kimmy
Regarding Mr. Edwards corbon foot print. As long as his de-forestation, (to make room for the house and in building materials), if it only benifits him and his family then you have no problem with it, but if he had actually cut some trees down while doing something that may have had some benifit to the rest of us, that would then be evil.

And folks around here say you don't have good sense.

So Glad
The faggot reference is annie's "dean scream" and I am glad to see that most of you have reconciled to losing the WH for the next 16 years.

I am so glad she is a republican. The more groups she insults to the glee of "a white Christian party" the more voters a democratic candidate is going to receive. May she live long and prosper.

If you take the time to view the entire
clip, you figure out real quick that it was a joke. She began by referencing Mr. Edwards, segued to the current plight of Isaiah Washington and then u-turned back to Mr. Edwards in an oblique reference to his compulsion for grooming.

Unfortunately, Ms. Coulter forgot the advice of P.T. Barnum: Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the public.

Spiritof76, You're are correct that Conservative have the burden of holding ourselves to a higher standard, but frankly, I am getting worn down by the opposition. One of the basic tenets of combat is that the aggressor sets the rules of engagement. I am so tired of liberals being allowed to say foolish things that I am just going to have to give Ms. Coulter a pass on this one.

TH.com
prevents the word "queeer" (2 E's) from being posted.

I suggest we think up another word to call the homos.

The only apology due to Edwards.,.
is flipping him "the bird"!!!

re: minority party
the other party, dems, has become a mamby pamby party of people who stand for nothing and fall for everything.

Lame Joke

.....Jon ...

.....I accuse Coulter of making a bad joke that did not make much sense and wasn't funny ...I cannot read her mind but I don't think she meant to imply that Edwards was homo-sexual since apparently he is not ...maybe she meant that he was an effeminate girlie-man ...what was referred to in my day as a sissie ...

.....I think ...more accurately ...that she was directing her attack at politically correct speech codes ...enforced by Liberals to stifle Free Speech ...men HAVE been ordered into rehab for using the word "faggot" ...in fact this entire uproar fueled by the Libs and stoked by the Media just proves Ann's point .....COLOSSUS

postscript: This comment reprinted on Michael Medved's Post.

Ann's sin...
Phony indignation—just another personality trait of the MSM, the DNC, and squishy Republicrats. Ann's sin? TWBC: Talking While Being Conservative.

Right, Pirate
Ohmygosh...it's not like Ann is an elected US Senator from a northeastern predominantly Democrat state, er, commonwealth, who "misjoked" but actually does make decisions about how we live our lives. She's a commentator, author and entertainer who happens to be more in line with my way of conservative thinking. And she'll continue to be a commentator, author and entertainer, unlike another commentator, author and comedian who's running for the US Senate from Minnesota so he can actually make decisions about how we live our lives.

Please, dear God, deliver us from this news cycle. Please find us some new "real" news...something else on the order of Anna Nicole's passing

Ok, Edwards is not a faggot but he is...
a bit effeminate, don't you think?

"Faggot" Remark
The point of Coulter's remark was clearly, to bring light to the liberal's tendency to put people in therapy sessions for speaking their minds. This is eerily similar to the old communist Russian "re-education camps". You need to get re-educated if you don't think the "right way".
Of all the liberal nonsense- high taxes, stupid governemnt programs, idiotic global warming scenerios etc. etc. etc., the scariest thing they do is limit your free speech and then tell you there is something wrong with you if you say a "bad word".

What Is In a Title
How Communist do you have to be to be called a Communist? I cannot answer that question to every one's satisfaction but I can to satisfy my understanding. The one tenet of Communism that overpowers all others is the "redistribution of wealth". Taking the hard earned, self motivated, compensation for one man's labor and giving it to another man (by name) to foster his life and encourage continued laziness. Liberals/Socialist/Progressives all promote the principle of Redistribution of Wealth--therefore they are all Communist. The Communist title is repugnant to all Americans (except the Communist) and no true Communist wants that label applied to him--after all we opposed Communist and Communism for 50 years during the "Cold War". Our Communist bring forth the "Serpents of Semantics" in an effort to hide their true beliefs--Progressive/Socialist/Liberal all provide concealment to the true Communist. Americans are easily fooled and benevolence seems like a "fair" endeavor; we help those in need, never realizing we are promoting true Communism. Benevolence must be freely given to be true benevolence--forced benevolence (taking and giving) is thievery and repugnant to our way of life. College grants (money given without payback) is Communism--loans are not. Paying motel bills for Katrina victims is Communism--it is interesting that if that same type of expenditure was provided to all that suffer a natural disaster (snow storms, tornadoes, mud slides, forest fires and hurricanes) it would not be Communist and may be construed as easily falling under the "general Welfare clause" of our Constitution. If a Politician is a Communist; he should be given that title--his voting record will make it clear where he stands politically. This silly game we play with false labels of ideology must be stopped--the voters are being misled and that is dangerous.

Lighten up
Kimberly:

I thought you were still trolling to save the world on Dr Sowell's blog. Ann and Jon were making jokes and, unlike your comment, they are all funny.

Watch the WHOLE Ann Colter speech
It is on four YouTube clips - watch it all.
(It helps also to know people who were physically present and what their take was.)

IT WAS A JOKE. Maybe not one of the best thought out ones, but a JOKE.

One of the first forms of tyranny is to control how others may express themselves. That is what is behind all of this.

John Edwards for president?
Here's another ambulance-chasing, lying lawyer who wants to be president and raise everyone's taxes. So typical.

Anne Coulter Apology??
Well done Jon Sanders, except there's no reason for an Anne Coulter remark apology from her or anyone else.

The hypocritical left uses far more egregious comments and epithets on a regular basis. There are never apologies coming from that quarter.

Besides, the Constitution's guarantee of free speech was specifically devised to promote political speech.

I took Anne's comments exactly as she meant them, and there's no need to be sorry about them. The left deserves just about everything said about it.

Gathering of Eagles/Move America Forward
Not on topic but important. These two great organizations are combining efforts for the pro troop rally in DC on March 17th. Move America Forward has organized a caravan that starts tomorrow in SF and ends on the 17th in DC. There are about 20 stops scheduled for the caravan. If you can't be in DC on the 17th to show your support go to one of the rallys. You can find the information here:

Bad Manners Aren't Funny
Ann Coulter is as funny as the little girl who runs into the cocktail party yelling "Poo Poo Head!" In my family she would have been slapped and sent to her room the first time, and there would not have been a second time.

However, in the day and age when "You Suck!" is considered an argument, I suppose it is to be expected.

The only apology Ms. Coulter owes us is an apology for her mother's slackness in teaching her how to be funny without being nasty. Unless, of course, her mother DID teach her better and is on her way to Ms. Coulter's house right now to slap her silly.

I'm still waiting
for Howard Dean to apologize for the comments made by Michael Moore, Al Franken, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis FarraCON and more recently, Bill Mahr. Come on Howie, if Ann is expected to apologize and Republican canidates are expected to apologize for her, Then get with the program. Open that big mouth of yours and just say it. It doesn't seem to be too dificult. Weenies in the Republican party have been doing it for decades.

What?
The Screamer wants Republican presidential candidates to apologize for what someone else said? That one pegged my puke meter. Such an apology should only come after the Dem candidates apologize for Bill Maher's comment about Cheney. I won't hold my breath waiting for that.
I will ignore the racial implications of the statement that "Edwards put in a brand new, never-before-used spade into the ground...", but not instead that Edwards who could not be gay, he's not manly enough. Also that dipstick wouldn't know which end of a shovel to used if it had a label on it.

Please
By all means, stick to your guns. Don't wimp out and show a shread of decency. The right has worked long and hard to cultivate a reputation of mean-spirited, narrow-minded hatred with the majority of voters. Why lose it now? After all, it is much more fun to deride than govern. The majority of people move away from extremists. That is what you want, isn't it?

Rescinding/Retracting!!
This is a country of free speech. Dean has no right to demand anyone to retract any comments. I didn't ask his party to retract or rescind the obnoxious scream he let out during his campaign. I just considered the source of a spoiled little kid having some sort of tantrum. Get on track with America or "Get Real".

Three Truths
1. Ann had the right to make her joke.
2. Criticism indicates a conservative "buy in" and "cave in" to Political correctness and the Speech Police. This writer is firmly entrenched in this Liberal censorship of speech.
3. This is nothing more than a "wedge" argument with the intent to separate some Conservatives and perhaps turn them to the Democrats. It worked for the last election so the Democrats are just waiting to pounce on any Conservative disagreements.

To Jon
Jon Sanders takes a long time to say “In short, Coulter's remark was ugly, gratuitous, and worthless. She could have leveled far more substantial -- and entertaining -- hits on John Edwards than what she said. For that we offer our sincere apologies and hopes for greater political discourse.”.

But, Jon, if she had done what you advocate you would not have a subject for your article. Obviously her article was not worthless because it has made copy for every editorial writer in the US, be they left or right.

Question
If Clinton can be the first black president and he is not black, why can't Edwards be the first faggot president even if he is not a faggot?

Ann Coulter For President!
I wish that more conservative columnists had the guts to speak out like Ann. She has nothing to apologize for at all. Well, maybe there is one thing. I wish she would stop holding back and say exactly what she means. The hell with the Demoncrats. It's time we as conservatives start fighting back against the liberal horde. God Bless you Ann!

Seawolf
You're exactly right. I think that it was Jefferson who wrote that once the masses realize that they can vote themselves money from the gov't, we're doomed. He was right except that he forgot to name politicians as the enablers.

BTW, in a shameless plug for my blog (click on my handle) check out my story on Sen Chris Dodd and how liberals give peace a chance. Also, a new hot one on Obama.

Party for gays
I'm a simple European and perhaps I'm missing a point, but the Democratic Party prides itself as being the party for gays. Then why the problem when being called one?
BTW Ann is a brick!

Excellent
Touche!

spiritof76
Well said. I agree.

"Many of you wrote about the things the Democrats have said and gotten away with. It is irrelevant."

Just as, for the Democrats, ** ALL ** of their past lies, thefts, flip-flops and even drownings are irrelevent, don't exist, never happened.

No, liberals WON'T be in power for a long time. If conservatives don't get back on top, America will not survive liberal rule.

FYI, I don't necessarily agree with Ann's use of the word. I don't approve of using vitriolic language in any debate.

Since Edwards brought it up

Since Edwards brought up the subject of caring for the poor.

and Jesus said the the rich man "If you want to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give to the poor....." when the young man heard this, he went away , because he had great wealth. (you can read the rest in Matthew 19 verse 16-32)

Great column!
Jon, I'm not sure which is funnier -- your column or thebigmick's response to it!

I laughed at what you wrote, but I laughed out loud at what HE wrote! By the Hitler reference in the 6th line he was just getting warmed up!

thebigmick, You don't work on the Hillary/Edwards campaign, do you?

I agree totally with take back the gov't
I have been observing how this country has been going down the tubes because of liberals for over 50 years. I despise them and all they "stand" for. They are all puzzies which is what Coulter meant as I saw it.

Ann Coulter...
...hurt herself so badly that she will probably only sell 10 gazillion copies of her next book.

I know I'll be one of her customers.

Hunh?
Why should anyone apologize for what someone else says? This is typical Democrat rhetoric; when someone commits a crime, everyone is guilty and all must pay. This is just a further example of watering down personal responsibility for one's actions.

I don't much care for Coulter, but I'll be damned if I apologize to anyone for anything I haven't done or said. I don't even do that for my kids!

Jordan
You should have posted a spew alert...that was priceless!!! My donut is now inside the coffee cup!!

minority party
It's sad to see so much support for Ann Coulter. Her comment and many of her other comments are very inappropriate. If this is where the conservative movement is heading, then the Democrats are going to be in power for a long time. Many of you wrote about the things the Democrats have said and gotten away with. It is irrelevant. What is relevant is that conservatives conduct themselves in such a manner that they don't resort to the same name-calling and mindlessness of the Democrats.

Howard Dean, The Queen of Hearts
Oh, my g*d, Ann Coulter just said a word. Howard couldn't wait to say, "Off with her head!!!"

Typical in your face, over the top, reaction to anything said by any Republican or Conservative.

The left can spew invictives and even commit treason because everyone knows they are the only true rulers of AmeriKa. We all know the Supreme Court robbed them of their reality and NOTHING should stand in the way of their recovery.

Howard, you are NOT my natural leader. I am a free American and happen to like Ann and what she said.

No Apology
Every time I here this crap it reminds of the child running into the crying "Mommy, mommy so and so called me_______!" Only now we have adult children, Liberal Democrats, being the children and the American public and Media being "Mommy."
For crying out loud, and I mean that, my God, I wish everytime that I had been called a nasty name, I'd have gotten a dollar! An apology, are you kiddin"
When are we going to tell these people shut up and be an adult, for God's sake! Quit being a baby and cashing in on people's sympathy.
Who really is at fault here? I certainly don't feel Ann needs to apologize, just certain people need to stop being big babies and grow up!!!!

what's to apoligize for
What is this "Ann should apologize" stuff? Are we asking one of the few who stand up to the liberals to be just another wimpy Republican? Besides, faggot is a complimentary term to democrats, faggots are one of their most revered and protected constituencies.

speaking of apologies...
Did Walter "the voice of America" Cronkite ever apologize for his role in our defeat in Viet Nam? Did he ever admit being fooled by the Tet offensive, saying we can't win, and generally leading us down the path where 3 million Cambodians and Vietnamese died? Maybe I missed that one.,..

Big time conservative cowards...
Why don't you just bown down your knee...asking for mercy from the liberals you so desperately want to apologize.

The idea of apologizing for Ann's remark is absolutely insane.

Still waiting for an apology
Maybe I missed the article but did Bill Arkin ever apologize after calling us military guys and gals mercenaries? Oh well, I guess my formal letter of apology from the American domocrats just got lost in the mail. Damn you USPS, damn you.

Robert Byrd uses the "n"-word
and gets a free pass God-knows-how-many-times-now(I've lost count), and they have the audacity and unmitigated gall to demand an apology! Jesse Jackson can say "Hymie-town" and never be accountable or apologize to anyone. Louis Farrakhan can call white people "devils" and never apologize for it. How many people remember this infamous comment by Howard Dean about Christians in the GOP?

"It's pretty much a white, Christian party."

His comment spoke volumes about which party really has a grasp on Christian values and which party diametrically opposes ALL THINGS OF GOD.
Where's your apology, Howard???

No one has to apologize for Ann
As I see it, Ann Coulter is still way behind in points when it comes to making apologies. Beginning on 9/11, tell me you can't think of one thing the Democrats should apologize for, especially when it comes to President Bush. How about our troops. Remember when the movie came out showing President Bush getting killed. That movie was welcomed by the Democrats and the media. Cheney escaped a bomb and the nuts on Huffington Post, were sorry Cheney got away with his life. Where's the apology from Bill Mahr, for the comment he made concerning the people who would still be alive if Cheney was dead. President Bush has been called a drunk, a terrorist, a dictator, a draft dodger, and a liar. Have we heard one apology from any Democrat. When the Democrats use words like the words they condemn Ann Coulter for, their words are cheered by the protesters, the media, Hugo Chavez, the terrorist, Ahmadinejad, and Hollywood. No apology is needed from Ann Coulter.

Mr. Sanders,
ALL excellent points! Things to add to the list would be his new role as Jesus.

One more thought
How many Democrats and liberals apologized to Coulter for the guy who tried to hit her in the face with a pie when she was delivering a speech on a college campus a couple of years ago? Or should we conclude that liberal men like John Edwards think it's OK to assault women who disagree with them?

Great job by Sanders
As usual the left focuses and obsesses over the most strident word in Coulter's discourse and completely overlooks what matters - that Edwards is the south end of a northbound horse.

The only thing Sanders left out is that Edwards wants us to elect him Prez on a platform that includes mandatory national health insurance after making his own personal fortune by suing health care providers and thus being a major contributor to the very "crisis" he now proposes to fix. Ha ha ha.

Now, that's
funny.

Apologize ?
Okay, I am sorry Ann did not do a better job of impugning John's hair.
