Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

If a bank or a finance company owned the land, the owner man said, The Bank—or the Company—needs—wants—insists—must have—as though the Bank or the Company were a monster, with thought and feeling, which had ensnared them. These last would take no responsibility for the banks or the companies because they were men and slaves, while the banks were machines and masters all at the same time. …

And the owner men explained the workings and the thinkings of the monster that was stronger than they were. … “But—you see, a bank or a company can’t do that, because those creatures don’t breathe air, don’t eat side-meat. They breathe profits; they eat the interest on money. If they don’t get it, they die the way you die without air, without side-meat…. When the monster stops growing, it dies. It can’t stay one size…. We have to do it. We don’t like to do it. But the monster’s sick. Something’s happened to the monster…. The bank is something more than men, I tell you. It’s the monster. Men made it, but they can’t control it…. The monster isn’t men, but it can make men do what it wants.”—Chapter 5, “The Grapes of Wrath,” John Steinbeck

The monster is sick again, men still think they can control it, and the monster is still making men do what it wants. This time the socialists of both parties will feed the monster $300 billion; the monster will only burp and ask for more.

Steve Forbes supports the Freddy Mac-Fannie Mae bailout suggesting that, “Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson should finally do to these two corrupt, mismanaged monsters what he should have done months ago … which will require an initial outlay of more than $300 billion.

$300 billion is a lot of money; it’s enough money to operate the entire government of the State of Florida for the next five years. It is $1,000 for each man, woman and child in America. For example, the direct combat expense of five years of war in Iraq has been $500 billion.

As a country lawyer in small town Florida, I see more honest, hard-working people that are hurting than any time in memory. They’re out of money, they’re out of work, they’ve exhausted their retirement accounts, their property and homes are worth less than they owe, and they are headed to foreclosure or bankruptcy or just walking away from everything they worked for. They would view the idea that some “bailout” in the secondary mortgage market will save them as a cruel joke. They have no down payment, they have no credit score and they have—no hope.

But wait: There is hope. Politics is more than dollars and cents. Human beings make major decisions on emotion, not calculation. The car, the house, our spouse—and, yes, our favorite candidate—is not a strict calculation but an infatuation, the mystery of human emotion. And, while the Obama team basked in their candidate’s inevitability, Sarah Palin made an emotional connection with the nation. The nation has seen a little bit of glory through the selection of Sarah Palin:

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord:

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:

His truth is marching on.

Glory, glory, hallelujah!

The terrible swift sword has fallen on the Obama campaign, and as much as they will try to reinvigorate and refocus on the economic woes of the country it will all be for naught. It is over. America has found a ticket they can trust, and there is no stopping it now.

Today, McCain and Palin are harvesting the vintage wrath of the mainstream media, Hollywood and of Obama himself. But it now looks entirely plausible that, on the first Tuesday in November, the vintage wrath may well be trampled.

DEMS in BIG Trouble!!
The Democrats are mostly to blame for the floundering economy even though they try to link it to the Bush administration. The Democrats must think that we are so dumb that we can’t see what’s happening by their continuing obstructionism. The Republicans are partly to blame as well because they are not vocal enough to change public opinion more against the Democrats and get more pressure on the Democrats to see that their obstructionism is hurting Americans – and more importantly making their reelections questionable. The Democrats probably believe that if they can continue making the economy worse while blaming the Bush administration, that they will somehow fool us into believing that Obama is the best solution – that by some miracle through taxing us to death that it will somehow grow the economy. But how is Obama going to do it if he doesn’t allow more drilling for oil and building more refineries? How is he going to help the economy by raising taxes – particularly taxing only the rich and businesses who provide jobs? How stupid his policies are!! Increasing taxes during near recession is the very worse thing that the government can do. This was clearly proven when Carter was president. Do we really want another Carter administration?

Oh you are kidding Stephen?
The Dumbocrats put the economy in this glorious condition. They drove down the value of the dollar?

All we need is for the God fearing Republicans to alert the masses that they are the party of change?

What ahppened during the 6 years that you Compassionate Conservatives" had the White House, The House and the Senate?

Just what econimic stimulus packages were inacted that stimulated the economy? Were they based on the top 1% or were they based on the middle-class?

So another $300 billion is going to the support the elite moneyed people. Which party is in charge of the Wall Street Houses? Oh yeah it's those Demo-Kommies that control Wall Street. Them Socialists.

But don't worry, the Republicans are the party of change. Spare change for the middle-class.

pableo st cruz,

the economy did not need stimulus until the Dems took over Congress in 2006.

Stop the Partisan Bickering
The fault in this crisis begain in 2002, and, in fact earlier. The stock market crash caused fears of a recession and so the fed, in its wisdom, dropped interest rates to encourage lenders to distribute the money to consumers. Thus, the consumer recovery was born. The Fed and the Treasury knew that housing was inflating beyond any reason, it knew that a huge increase in the volume of 1st and second mortgages was happening, and it knew that not only were many being given to people who had no credit and no down payment, but that the value of the home securing the credit was entirely false and that it was only a matter of time before the values returned to their historical base. But it did nothing. The politicians wanted the bubble because the bubble pumped trillions of inflated dollars into the economy, and enabled them to say "everything is fine". The Fed, at any point, could have raised interest rates and stopped the insanity which it and the treasury knew very well was taking place.

After all, just as 30% of all mortgages today exceed the value of the asset - the home, the fact is that those mortgages were all written in the last 5 years during which time that same housing inflated by as much as 50%, and it has now declined. And will decline until it goes back to this base.

Wake up and smell the roses. This was a Fed action pure and simple in which the GOP and the Democrats collaberated to do nothing because the economy appeared fine.

And if you really want to consider something sobering - consider that within two years, the costs of all of these bailouts is being projected to "increase the US deficit" to $800 billion - even if there is no new spending. We had a projected deficit this year of 500 b - but the Freddie/Fannie bailout alone added another $100 B - and that's only the beginning.

Assuming, of course, the Chinese and Europeons will even continue buying our debt - without which, none of this is possible.

Great Analogy Johnny !
"Today, McCain and Palin are harvesting the vintage wrath of the mainstream media, Hollywood and of Obama himself."

The above phrase has captured my feelings exactly!

Economy Goes Much Deeper
Unfortunately the underlying fundamentals that seem to be OK on the surface, fon't look so good in the long run.
Our already excessive regulations and taxes on business, especially small business, second only to Japan's (stagnated for over a decade)we are heading towards yet more and more of our businesses and entrepreneurs seeking friendlier business environments like BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) in ever greater numbers.
We need REFORM deep tax cuts and a sharp curtailment of needless regulations, we must open our markets (not just phony lip service) and seek bilateral free commerce deals with rapidly growing economies such as Brazil and India.
After all, there is no mistery to China's recent economic "miracle", they simply offered less regulations and taxes and lured most of Japan's successfull companies with know-how and capital, American companies and, yes, even Brazilian companies (800+ shoe manufacturers). In the meantime, California's bankrupcy is the exact reverse of China. That's how CA today has a credit rating on par with sinkhole Bolivia!

re: Redlac
Actually, the partisan bickering only disadvantages government workers and other parasites. Basically, out in the real world the less our congress critters do the better off we are. For instance from the early 90's until the dems took control back congress did little in the way of tax or regulation increases. This allowed for longest period of economic growth in our history. That's not a coincidence. This is due to partisan bickering and the great institution of the filibuster which has paralyzed legislation. I don't want one party to dominate I want them to be nearly equal with a slight advantage to the conservative side. It chokes the real monster's food supply which is our tax dollars.

The Fair Tax will go along way

in helping America grow strong economically, if the income tax is outlawed.

Instead of taxing production (as the income tax does) the Fair Tax taxes consumption and rewards productivity. That serves to increase production and decrease inflation.

Tweaking - not Surgery
The other side of this is that our economy is increasingly being held hostage to our creditors. It is they who are increasingly calling the shots. Thus, the Chinese pulled the plug that drove the takeover of Fannie and Freddie. I agree with Egon that deep cuts are going to be required. Personally, however, I see no political will whatsoever on either side of the aisle or with the general public for such cuts. The Fed is scrambling, and in the process they're enabling the banks to shift money from the bank side to the security side based on lower security assets values - something they wouldn't have dreamed of doing in the past. This is just another form of the same practices that got them into trouble on the mortgage side - lending on inadequate and insufficient assets. The government is bleeding ever greater amounts of red ink, and it will ramp up further, rather than go down. The economists for the Europeon Central banks have stated that whereas the worlds banks have written off $350 billion, that the real number, when all is said and done, will be more like $1 trillion.

The reality is, however, that we're voting for candidates who want to tweak the system, not provide major surgery - which is what is needed.

McCain is saying he'll reform the street - but that demonstrates only his naivete. The street isn't the issue - it's the fed and its monetary policies, and he's not about to reform them.

The fed. gov't needs to get
out of guaranteeing mortgages, student loans, hurricane insurance, and any other private ec. banking.

The taxpayers of the US should not back vacation homes on barrier islands that aren't meant to be permanent. They should not have to supply ins. for people who build in areas below sea level or along rivers that flood annually.

The taxpayers of America have to get away from bailing out mortgage companies and the people who bought houses they couldn't afford or bought too many at one time.

The FDIC insures single bank accounts up to $100,000 and that's enough for the general pop. to have to support and pay for in taxes.

The fed. gov't is not granddaddy with his pockets full of candy. His pockets are really full of my money and yours.

I have absolutely no sympathy ...
I have absolutely no sympathy for the people who gambled that their purchased home would increase significantly in value. They took the risk that they could make a killing on their home purchase or their income would go up to help them make the hight payments. It is their risk not mine! Life is tough but mostly fair. What will be grossly unfair is to expect me to share the risk with these people; when I was prudent - well let's say it like it is, I was not greedy nor stupid!

When Nixon declared
"we are all Keynesian now"

It sit the course for today

This was unlawful but done anyway and its been kept under wraps of the dishonesty of the Federal Reserve Banking Corporation.

America is owned by a handful of bankers today who have been given the power over both the money supply and its value.

Both illegal as the US Constitution has been suborned to the will of the greedy lying bankers, who get honor for their theft.

Instead of the long prison sentence they deserve.

Let Wall Street Sink or Swim !!
Way to go Johnnie B. Byrd...darn good article it was too.

We need to let these two Wall Street turkeys live or die on their own...

Always take the tough line...always take the hard line.... s'what I say!

The liberals and "moderates" in America have become soft thumb-sucking "men".....and many of them suck other things besides thumbs, for example they suck-up to the government's attempt to use our tax dollars to bail out these two Wall Street failures..

What about Darwin's the "survival of the fittest" doctrine...I thought you panty-wearing liberals loved and believed in old Charlie Darwin's evolutionary doctrines, No?

Oh, I see!! I see how it works. You love old Charlie's BS when it helps your cause. But ya don't love old Charlie when it don't help ya. Hypocrites.

God Bless America...and
God Bless the United States Marine Corps.

See you at Galts Gulch
When I was 25 I spent a whole summer digesting Atlas Shrugged (a fortunate hand-off from the girl who smashed up my motorcycle, who could barely read People Magazine and who was given this exciting tome to while away a summer in traction) and making notes.

Too bad Ayn Rand didn't live long enough to see it all come true.

Once the structure has collapsed and all the parasites have consumed each other, the rest of us can get on with making thing work the way they should have to begin with.

As for the people who have gambled away everything they had and more, on the foolish notion that there is always a bigger fool to buy it up before the first payment comes due ... sucks to be you, I guess.

Parasites
The problem is the parasites control the country. Which is why the stock crash happened, followed by this housing crash, and then followed by the inevitable federal bank and government bailout. The rest of us are paying, and will continue to pay. The Fed could have stopped this years ago, and didn't, and whereas we can complain about the 9.3% who are in default or in behind on their payments, as well as the 30% whose mortgages exceed the value of their homes, the practical fact is that the government is - and will continue - to bail them out - and the rest of us will pay. The Fed wanted the consumer recovery - and could have ended this at any time - and didn't, the banks were careless and greedy - and could equally have ended the excesses, and the 30% of the consumers who are at the bottom of those that are economically illiterate, now hold the paper. But that 30% can and will change any election, as it spills over to the banks and the street. And if the government doesn't bail them out, then the rest of us will find ourselves unable to borrow money, as the banks keep what they have to cover their losses while lending little or nothing - no matter how credit worthy the one looking for the loan.

Obama Violates The Logan Act in Iraq

In a scathing report today, the New York Post claims that Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, while campaigning in America for a speedy withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq, tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement with the Bush administration on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Barack Hussein Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops-and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

If this is not sedition, it is at least a violation of the Logan Act.

This guy is dangerous and a hypocrite and will do ANYTHING to put himself and his cabal of Communists in power.

...I wonder if Charles Gibson will ask him about this? NOT!

You are dead on target sir!

Politicians Cannot Save Us!
I don't care how many promises are made or who claims to be our savior..no politician can save us.
They made the mess, why should we trust them to fix it?

We the People, no longeer exist in America,,We the people have trusted our fate to selfish politicians that care only about their politics.

When politicians wants to step in to change the meaning of freedom to suit their own ideology, we have sold our souls to the government.

Face it people , Obama will bring in Socialism & dictatorship by the government....He and his followers tell us everyday by their attitude toward those who do not socially agree with them.

No longer do I think God blesses America..We will pay for what we have allowed politicians to do in our name..We will pay with the future of our children and grandchildren.

A lot of Americans have been manipulated into thinking that Capitalism is dead and therefore we should turn to Socialism that will destroy our freedom.

We the people allowed the special interest to control our societry thru Politicians.

Civil War will be the only answer if the politicians allow our country to be run by special interest and foreign political ideaology that does not belong to a free people.

I hope I am wrong. But, when was the last time any Democrat stood up to the Castro's and Chavez's of the world...Not in my lifetime. They seem to admire them.

I dunno
but I can't help but see Apocalyptic rumblings in all these things and I think trying to fit these happenings into a political framework is simply going to result in even more of the same.

Washington cannot save us, no matter who we put there.

Redlac
You are posting very valid insights but they are probably wasted at this site. There is no interest in these posts for any factual information.

You are correct in that the partisan bickering over the last eight years is the classic fiddling while Rome burns.

Tweaking will not fix anything.

We have a $10 trillion national debt. We have a $13 trillion dollar GDP.

This is serious stuff and the whining and name-calling that takes place on this site is indicative of the bickering that continues in Washington.

I don't know who I will vote for but we really don't have much time left.

Thank you for your reasonable insights.

Southern Reply to Socialists

Southern Gentleman's Reply to Socialists

I was brought up to respect women and to show deference to them; seating them first, opening doors for them, and helping them with heavy loads, etc. In today's world, if you do anything that is just decent and respectful, you may get charged with sexual harassment.

Well, you know what I say to this and to all the BS Political Correctness that has been pushed on us by government, the media and repulsive and indecent sit-coms and movies being produced for the most part in the pervert capital of the World, Hollywood, California. I say, to hell with Political Correctness.

I will do and say what I want, and I don't care if it "hairlips the Pope" to use an old country boy saying from the South From Which I am Proud to be a product. In the South, to use a Hank Williams, Jr. Song line, "We say Sir, and We Say Mam, and if you ain't into that, we don't give a damn." You flaming liberals have already screwed up most of the country, and are doing a pretty good job even down here, but there is a large grass roots movement of good old boys all over this country in the lower 48 and Alaska who are sick of Liberals and Liberalism being forced on us.

I will continue to go out of My Way to Be Politically Incorrect, and do and say what I please. The last I heard, we still have a Constitution and a Bill Of Rights in force. I be damned if any government official or other bureaucrat, employer or anybody else tell me that they can suspend my rights, including the right to free thoughts and speech.

I will say howdy mam, howdy sir, and I will open a door for a female who presents as being a decent lady.

You can take the decency out of America, but you cannot take The Decency Out of A Southern Gentleman. That is what we have that you Liberals from Socialist States don't seem to understand. That is why you all don't get it why so many Americans Love Sarah Palin. She is Real Just Like Us.

Obama is a Communist
Communism does not work. That is why we are in this trouble. The liberal Demcorats for over 40 years have turned this country into a communist country. Federally mandate welfare programs that have a bureaucracy that is so big, that 87 dollars of every dollar doled out to the welfare recipients is spent on the bureaucracy and administering the programs. More money is spent running the federal and state school bureaucracies than is actually spent on education. Money is spent uselessly on the EPA who are heavily funded but do nothing. Money is spent of Border Security, but tens of thousands enter illegally daily. Communism does not work.

Get rid of Big Government and The Bureaucracy, and then we will begin to have surplusses. The reason that we have a ten trillion dollar debt is that even the Democrats Cannot Tax Us At Any Higer Levels than They are Now Doing, without an open rebellion against them.

Never do they suggest abolishing Government departments and Agencies gobble up trillions annually and do more harm than good. Name one governmental agency or department that works well. There are none.

End Communism and we get a balanced budget, and then we can acutally get some tax breaks. We are now working till June each year to break even from taxes. This is absurd. And Obama and that gang of fools on Capitol Hill are talking about more Government Pie In The Sky Programs like Obama's School for 2 year olds, and he promises to Take From the Imaginary Rich to Pay For It. WAke Up America, Obama is in LaLa Land.

Ditto Globug in Tx
We are in the last stages of Socialism when we become a dictatorship if it goes any further. That is why Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Ted Kennedy, Miller of California and other communists in the DNC leadership handpicked Obama to be their Hand PUppet. They knew and know that Obama has been lectured to and followed Communists all his life. From childhood on, Obama has had radical teachings. His mom and dad were early revolutionaries. They don't ever call them that when they do their little ditties about young Hussein Obama.

He had Communist Sponsors who got his ignorant self into Harvard where he was further groomed by communist professors at Harvard. After Harvard, he mentored Bill Ayers, a convicted Marxist Terrorist who blew up federal buildings and committed murder. Obama's entire background is corrupt and communist.

Now, nobody can find any records on him, including a birth certificate. He could not get a security clearance if a legitimate background check were done.

How can someone this elusive with no experience or background be picked? Easy, he was Hand Picked By the Communists such as Pelosi to finish taking us wholesale into Communism. They know that with an Obama Presidency, their laws would be Veto Proof. He is a Puppet. They purposely sabotaged Clinton, because they Knew that they Could Not Control Hillary as easily, because as much as I do not agree with Hillary, I do not question her Loyalty to this country, as I do Mr. Barach Hussein Obama, Communist Forever.

"Everything predicted by the enemies of banks, in the beginning, is now coming to pass. We are to be ruined now by the deluge of bank paper.

It is cruel that such revolutions in private fortunes should be at the mercy of avaricious adventurers, who, instead of employing their capital, if any they have, in manufactures, commerce, and other useful pursuits, make it an instrument to burden all the interchanges of property with their swindling profits, profits which are the price of no useful industry of theirs."

America should never have allowed the Federal Reserve power of the economy and value of money.
Fiat paper always returns to its inherent value which is nothing
