Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Obama is no Archimedes.

This week the purveyors of profundity pounced on Barack Obama’s quest to be the great hope for a post-racial America.

Here are some comments from the right:

Obama’s new implied promise of a presidency of endless race-based agitation may well constitute an offer that we easily can refuse. –Michael Medved

But President of the United States, in a time of national danger, under a looming threat of nuclear terrorism? No.

–Thomas Sowell

… he can and will survive this battle. –Dick Morris

Well, you can't pick your grandma, but you can pick your pastor ... –Michelle Malkin

We probably need to wait until Barack Obama better knows who he is … –Dennis Prager

And from the left:

He used his address as a teachable moment … –Washington Post

It is hard to imagine how he could have handled it better … –New York Times

…we are closer today, thanks to this remarkable address, to facing our history and perfecting our nation. –Los Angeles Times

I’m reminded of John Godfrey Saxe's (1816-1887) version of the famous Indian legend, “The Blind Men and the Elephant”:

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

[Tactile exam of elephant parts by each blind man yields opinions that it is a wall, tree, spear, rope, snake or fan.]

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

Thanks to Townhall.com and the new media we are no longer blind. We know Obama and his family have been steeped in a particularly disturbing view of the “elephant” of American race relations. So, the premise of Obama’s campaign—that he is the new Archimedes, ready to move the world if he had a place to stand—no longer makes sense.

Trinity United Church of Christ was not the place to stand, and now we know that Obama’s campaign was presumptuous, not audacious, in elevating him as the “one” who would “see” the whole “elephant.” The claim that he was the singular figure through which Americans could finally be informed about post-racial America came crashing down. Despite his protestations, we know that Obama was just one more blind man.

Post-racial America will be defined by the good faith, interpersonal dealings of ordinary Americans; it will never come as part of a political calculation by those angling for higher office.

It was presumptuous, not audacious, to think that Obama could give new meaning to anyone’s experiences on race relations any more that I can inform him of how to give meaning to his own experience.

For example, I remember reading “The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks” by Randall Robinson, and thinking that the book’s premise made no sense to me. Of course not, Robinson was describing his view of the elephant, not mine. And so it goes.

30 years after the American Revolution, John Adams wrote Jefferson with a lucrative proposition. Because they had been unique witnesses to all the proceedings giving rise to our country’s birth, they should co-author a definitive history of the American Revolution. Jefferson declined out-of-hand, observing that no one could or should ever tell the story of the American Revolution because it wasn’t over yet!

Jefferson was right, as always; ordinary Americans will continue to write the compelling story of the American experience. With the baggage of Rev. Wright’s foolishness, not to mention the support of the New Black Panther Party, Obama was presumptuous to think he would have the credibility to write even a chapter on this important issue in the American experience.

Obama and race
Anyone who says that the white community must understand the black community, instead of saying that both communities need to understand each other, is not going to heal the divide. He's just indicated that he doesn't understand the problem. So, how's he going to fix it?

America deserves some appreciation!
Well...Rev. Wright...says he is speaking on behalf of the black community...entrenched in Black Liberation Theology. This system of theology is rooted in what's known as Liberal Theology which was started in Europe by ...you guessed it..."Liberals" who were a far cry from being Christians.

Barack & his fellow church members are cyring 'wolf'.....when they themselves are focusing on race, being separatists & cursing the 'rich white man'!

I am not born in America, but came here 10 years ago & just year became a citizen.

When I hear people who have lived in America all their lives, or even those who have immigrated start name calling America ...cursing them & blaming them for all the woes in life...it just befuddles me. Do these people really think America is that bad....if so...they need to pack all their belongings & head to Iran or Libya or Saudi Arabia or Lebanon or Phillipines, or Tibet..perhaps Cuba or any other of these places that must be so much better than what they have here...because they've forgotten how good it is!
Herein lies the danger when one forgets where they came from & what they enjoy today...taking it for granted!
Rev. Wright should go back to his African roots in Africa where he'll be so much happier! Howver he'd likely have to give up all his ranting & raving or he may find himself in a lot of trouble there.

Those of us who immigrated to America or are not American by ancestry, need to continually be
comscious that what we left behind in most cases is not superior to what America can offer.

America is still considered a Christian nation...at least in name...& providing it stays Christian in it's foundational beliefs it will remain the refuge for people around the world from despots, dictators & tryrants of many sorts who no longer value human dignity...

Let's work together & not allow that to happen in America...

just a "typical white person"
Obama is as Post Racial as Simon Legree. On Fox News they just played a tape of Obama without the teleprompter talking on a sports talk station in Philly. He said he didn't mean his mother "had some kind of racial animosity, because she didn't. She is just, you know, a TYPICAL WHITE PERSON. You know they see someone they don't know on the street and there , these reactions are just bred in" Get the exact quote but that is close enough for you, WHITEY.

Well Stated Fosson!
And a sincere welcome to America!

Leaving America
How come Robert Redford and the other idiot liberals didn't carry through with their threat to leave America if GWB was re-elected in 2004? Talk about posturing liars, they should all be expelled. Too bad we cannot do that.

just another "typical white woman"
Happily, this typical white woman and my husband will celebrate Easter at a small multi-cultural and multi-racial United Church of Christ in Providence, RI. This church is my mom and brother's church, where our entire family has found the true meaning of Christianity. We are one of a few white families in the congregation. We belong to this Christian family to praise God and hear his Word.

THIS is post-racial America. Surely, if tiny Providence has such a church, Chicago must offer such. One wonders why Obama would not seek out a church that truly celebrates the audacity of hope.

Blessings to all,
Nancy M

Fosson
That is a great post.

My friend George is a true "African-American." He was born in Kenya, immigrated to America, and is now a naturalized citizen.

George and I talk about politics, religion, the arts, sports and current events. He's a very well-educated guy. We usually hold these discussions in the Irish pub in which we are both regulars, but sometimes over dinner with our wives or at each other's homes. George is a CPA and he runs (and plays in) a local rugby team. George is also half my age.

I'm not pulling the old "some of my best friends are black" routine. George is my one and only black friend. He's not my best friend - that would be a guy I went to school with and have known for nearly fifty years. But I consider George to be a good friend. I enjoy his company, his sense of humor, his wit and the fact that he doesn't wear his race on his sleeve. I've known George for nearly five years and never in all that time have I heard George denounce America.

The pub has three other black regulars besides the two from George's rugby team. They come to the pub as a group, drink as a group and leave as a group. In spite of many attempts by myself, George and others to include them in conversation, they apparently are just not interested in interacting with anyone but themselves and the bartenders. We gave up trying.

And that's the long and short of my attitude toward American blacks. If they want to continue thinking that all whites are racist, then have at it. Just as we gave up on the three American blacks who frequent the pub, I gave up on those who brand me as something I'm not a long time ago. I'm tired of it, I don't care any more, and as far as I'm concerned, let them stew in their own juices.

Obama From Audacity to Presumption
The article is excellent in its analysis of the dangerous personality lurking under the "blank slate" Obama so proudly announces he is - a slate on which we can each write what we want. Obama's choice of aligning himself with such a hate-race-baiting "preacher," who proclaims such lies and insights Americans to victim hood and division proves where Obama's beliefs are based. Obama is a confused angry person who does not know where he belongs, much less who he is. Americans do not OWE Obama any vote - we do not OWE any one - our vote.Obama is a dissembler - his anger is seething - it s real - and it has NOTHING to do with the United States and everything to do with Obama's self-confusion about his place and his person. He is lost and we do not owe him and we cannot give him the path to truth or the path to the self. The audacity Obama preaches he fails to seize for himself - to discover who he is and what he believes. No "blank slate" deserves my vote for anything. As Mr. Shelby Steele has stated: “No matter his ultimate political fate, there is already enough pathos in Barack Obama to make him a cautionary tale. His public persona thrives on a manipulation of whites (bargaining), and his private sense of racial identity demands both self-betrayal and duplicity…” Such a person should have no political power. Obama is a dissembler.

I want to see who they'll pick for a VP
Before trying to choose a 'lesser of two evils' candidate to vote for, I want to see who they'd choose for their VP running mates. NOT impressed with what is turning out to be our choices for President, I guess I'll just have to wait until somebody chooses a VP candidate worthy of voting for. That or write in Ron Paul in an effort to bring some sanity back to this country. Write in Ron Paul would mean not having to hold my nose when I vote for somebody that I'd be proud to have for our President.

Deeds
Obama's record shows us he is extremely liberal. So why are some surprised at the white bating of his pastor? Liberals are masters of piting one group against another. In Chicago a positive initiative was made on the South side called "Buy Black". It was dead almost before it had any life. Why?

Thomas Sowell said he would be dead if his ancestors had not been slaves here. Blacks are proud of Africa? Tribe against tribe. Muslims against everyone else? Death and destruction and poverty? You do know that blacks sold their own brothers in slavery to the white man.

It would be wonderful if blacks could acknowledge the whites who have helped them. Athletes come to mind. MLK, Jr. freedom walks. Even Southern whites. But it is unsightly for good people to seek praise for their deeds, so we continue retelling the same bad news.

God help our nation in this coming presidential election. It seems we deserve punishment for loving God, justice, and freedom for all.

Shalom

OBAMA PHILOSOPHY

I get an eerie feeling I have heard this speech before from many others round the world who are determined to pull all peons under one “New World Order ruled by Socialist elites who will more than likely be overpowered by the Islamist Jihads and the world will be governed by their Caliphate (Imam) and ruled by Shariah law.

Does Obama hate white America? Rev. James David Manning, PhD says, “YES HE DOES.” These videos of an educated black Pastor offer a different perspective on Obama who makes promises of more entitlements to ease their pain of suffering under the enslavement of rich white KKK of white America. http://youtube.com/watch?v=6RyOPTtzTvI&feature=related

Farrakhan compared Obama to the religion's founder, "Fard Muhammad, who also had a white mother and black father". "A black man with a white mother became a savior to us" [Muslims]. His father Barak Hussein Obama, Sr. left him and his mother when Barak, Jr. was only two years old and sired seven more children with different wives.

Louis Farrakhan compared Obama to their religion's founder, "Fard Muhammad, who also had a white mother and black father". "A black man with a white mother became a savior to us" [Muslims]. Beware of political endorsements! Something is always expected in return. Obama has been exposed to Marxism

In December, 2007 Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Obama’s minister, an anti-American militant and anti-Israel, praised Louis Farrakhan, Leader of the Nation of Islam, as a man who epitomizes greatness with the “Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. Trumpeter Award”. Farrakhan has blamed blacks' troubles on Jews, America, and whites, whom he calls "blue-eyed devils." When blacks, “erase race” as Ward Connerly says, talks can begin.

Ready to move on
Bob C, good story!

Until the Black community chooses to join America in 2008 instead of 1958 they are stuck by their own choice to be Victims of Race.

Memo to Obama:
If you want to move past race and poverty, stop enabling the "victim culture".

Oh wait I forgot you are using the Victim culture to grow government so Liberals have more power...
"God Damn those rich white liberal oppressors"

So Liberalism is thicker than blood...
