Judging Obama

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

How will we know if President Obama's must-have "stimulus" program succeeds? Politicians grab credit for everything, so we should come up with a way to measure success. Obama said, "I expect to be judged by results." Let's oblige him.

It won't be easy. Obama promises to "save or create" 3.5 million jobs, but if the unemployment rate is unchanged in four years, do we credit Obama for saving 3.5 million jobs that would have been lost?

If new jobs are created, should stimulus get the credit? If the gain is in the government sector or in areas fed by taxpayer money, how do we know that the job creation didn't crowd out the creation of more and more productive jobs?

If the gain is in the private sector, Obama's boosters will claim credit on the basis of the "multiplier effect." It's a favorite theory of politicians and their court economists that government spending has a bigger economic jolt than cutting marginal tax rates does. But not everyone is so sure. (Harvard economist Gregory Mankiw, for one.)

The bottom line is that a lower unemployment rate will not prove that Obama's "stimulus" worked.

Given time, the economy, unless totally crippled by government intervention, will regenerate itself. That's because an economy is not a machine that needs jumpstarting. It is people who have objectives they want to achieve. They will not sit on their hands forever waiting for government to "fix" things. Instead, they work to overcome obstacles to get what they want. Some banks are struggling, but there are still people who want to lend money and people who want to borrow it. They will find each other without government help.

During the Great Depression, many Americans kept producing in spite of the burdens imposed by the FDR's New Deal. (Amity Shlaes calls these "the forgotten man".) Likewise today, economist Steven Horwitz writes, "[T]he American people are already doing something to create wealth and hasten the recovery, even if we are the ones forgotten in the battle over what Washington should do. Americans are going to work every day and providing for their families ... increasing their savings rates, making much needed capital available to the private sector ... imagining new and more efficient ways to use valuable resources."

We should make sure that President Obama and his congressional colleagues don't take credit for what we do. It wouldn't be the first time a "leader" ran in front of a crowd and claimed to have led the way.

What if the economy is still in bad shape a year or two from now? Will we get apologies from Obama and the stimulus advocates in Congress? Not a chance. Their excuse is already prepared: The stimulus was too small.

On the day Obama signed the bill, his aides put out the word that another may be needed. The blame will not be put on the folly of stimulus, only on the meagerness of the spending.

Heads -- big government wins. Tails -- free people lose. I don't want to play that game.

It's important to remember that government has no resources it hasn't first commandeered from the private economy. Anything it does to stimulate economic activity necessarily preempts private activity. Where is the gain?

Worse: Since monopoly bureaucracies are not as efficient as competitive businesses, government efforts won't get as much bang for the buck as private efforts. They will likely destroy wealth.

Ah, say the Keynesians, people aren't buying, and that's why businesses aren't investing and hiring. Only government can jumpstart the economy.

But people didn't just wake up one day and decide not to consume and invest. They hold back because the economy is uncertain. Then they hold back more because they don't know what activist government will do next. Will it prop up housing or other prices? Will it nationalize the banks?

The way to get private activity going again is to let markets adjust to reality and set prices accordingly. Only then will economic activity resume and unemployment recede.

If, through your perseverance, things begin looking up, credit belongs not to President Obama and Congress. It belongs to you.

Bottom line
A little less than half of American voters are voting out of class envy and belief of Left wing kool aid. These people still believe in and support nanny government and always will. The lousy performance of Bush and his CINO cohorts aligned the so-called independents with Dumbo. This relatively small group, in general, has very few brains, no memory, no gift for analysis, no raal interest in politics. They vote for identity candidates, for charm, for oratory skills, the current economy and their pocket books. They are predominently women. They get their political information from Good morning America, People magazine and Oprah. They rarely can give any policy reason they vote for anybody. They often disliked Gore and Kerry, so those disasters lost. They fell for Dumbo like a ton of bricks. If he can keep them with him, we are down the chute. FDR did.

A Fabulous After Dinner Speaker He Is
February 24, 2009
As a proud American, and for the most part I will always try to support Barack Obama. I am fond of him and his wonderful family on a personal note. I do reserve the right as a published freelance writer focusing on among other subjects, political commentary to be critical when necessary. I found the speech tonight somewhat incredible and I just cannot bring myself to believe that the best laid plans of this administration are an indication of proper result. I also wonder whether the opinion polls showing widespread approval for the stimulus plan are based on Obama's oratory rather than an orderly and logical analysis of what we are hearing, and a long ways from actually accomplishing. Jay R

thin skinned
I resent when liberals say we are judging too soon, when for eight years, 24/7, they constantly verbally abused President Bush.

I resent that they expect me to accept really risky spending of our tax dollars and our children's yet-to-be collected taxes. It's gambling and they have an addiction and they need rehab.

I resent being treated like a child who is only told partial truths. They create a labyrinth of complication and hope that we'll be too intimidated to questions their actions. If we do question, we're patted on the head and told to be patient.

I resent that they sign bills that they haven't read.

I resent that their words don't reflect their actions. The economy is in tatters, so they say, but they're flying all over the place taking vacations. I never see them work long hours into the night. They always look perfectly coiffed, clothed, nipped and tucked....a lot like the CEO's they loathe.

Our country will be gone if we don't 'judge'. We have to scrutinize our representatives. They are the CEO's of BIG gov't. They violate all the standards that they accuse their free market counterparts of abusing.

They're thin skinned and their motivations are thinly veiled.

Many economists do in fact believe
that the stimulus was too small. This makes a lot of sense not just in terms of economic theory, but also in light of history.

And who will take the blame for it being to small? The republicans - and they will deserve it.

Doulgas and his remedial ecoomics
Many economists, the knowledgeable competent ones, believe Obama is an idiot when it comes to the stimulus, and his financial schemes. Too large a bill of nothing.

Money market managers, the stock market, the BBC, Al Jazeera, the Chinese media, just to name a few believe the stimulus was wrong in content and price tag.

But then again a know nothing psychologist who never prints a link to support anything he posts suggests otherwise.

Perhaps a return visit to your former high school for remedial economics would help.

The True Purpose
The True Purpose of the Stimulus is the destruction of our free enterprise economy and its replacement with a Marxist/Socialist Centralized economy. Big Government controls it all.

The financial crash was purposely done by George Soros and his allies in what David Horowitz and Richard Poe call the 'Shadow Party'. It was part of the Cloward-Piven Strategy. And it worked. And it's working.

I know, sounds like a conspiracy theorist. But, read the book: "The Shadow Party How George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and Sixties Radicals Seized Control of the Democratic Party", and then tell me what you think.

It's like Pamela Geller on 'Atlas Shrugs' said: "WE HAVE BEEN FINANCIALLY DISARMED".

"The bottom line for Soros was that in the middle of the terror war with Islamic radicals, Soros wanted an American president who believed that America may be wrong."

"The Shadow Party is the institutional manifestation of Soros' anti-American obsession. It is the political spear with which he intends to puncture the bubble of America's influence and sucess." The Shadow Party pages 16-17

William, I agree...
I have watched and listened to the Left for many years. They display a total disconnect from reality. I often wonder, as I know all conservative do, what is their goal? It is certainly not American.

The Left believe that America is wrong on every issue and policy beginning in 1776. Therefore "Change" is necessary.

They want to re-create the U.S. into their version of utopia, all the while abandoning everything the American peoples have struggled for since the beginning.

The most astounding are and not in order of importance:

1) the belief and total refusal to implement any real measures to prevent or deal with illegal immigration. Illegals cost us over 400 billion a year in hard costs and at least twice that in soft costs.

2) the belief that if we distribute our wealth around the globe then we will be liked by everyone.

3) the befief that guns kill people.

4) the belief that our constitution is a living document and not a legal document.

5) the belief that letting the Gitmo prisoners free will make us safer.

6) the belief that not exploiting our own energy resources is ok.

7) the belief that global warming can be prevented.

8) the belief that saving certain species of animals is more important than saving unborn children.

9) the belief that we can tax and spend our way into prosperity.

10) the belief that corporations and the rich are evil.

11) the belief that God is somehow irrelevant.

12) the belief that everything that Obama says is just great.

The above is just a short list. If I had the time this morning my list would be much longer.

Supporters of the Left really need a dose of reality. I fear that Obama may just provide that experience for them at the peril of the rest of us.

Have a nice day!

Dr. Douglas
Do you care that many economists think you are wrong? I point to the recent open letter published by the Cato Institute calling for less government intervention in the economy. This letter was signed by economists from all across America including two Nobel prize winners.

You don't have to answer because I know you don't care. Yours is a religious fervor based in a fantasy vision of reality. The results are irrelevant as long as the intention of your policy is to produce the workers paradise. It matters not that misery ensues as long as you can feel good about yourself.

You probably hate being a human being because humans are so screwed up and don't act the way you think we should.

Very well said
Thank you John Stossel. I'm getting on a plane at 6:00 this morning to go to work. I'm going to keep going to work until the government crowds out my job by saving 3.5 million low paying jobs in the public sector, by destroying 10 million jobs in the private sector. When we settle into an economy with equal outcomes and universal rationed health care, we will be made to like it. Adoring throngs will hail Obama for bringing them economic justice. All he will have done is to sentence them to a permanently weakened state planned economy. At least the rest of us will have to go along.

Let's see now
When the economy was growing at a healthy rate, we kept hearing about the bad "Bush economy." This went on for years. At the same time, Democrats kept pushing policies, like mortgages to people who couldn't afford them with the help of Obama-trained Acorn terrorists. Fannie and Freddie failed while the Obama ally, Raines, walked away with tens of millions in bonuses. Now the thugs who broke the legs of the economy are the "doctors" who say they will fix it if we just yield more power to them, give them our money, and shut up.

If this happened in the private sector, the likes of John Edwards would be lining up for class action law suits. We'd be seeing "ambulance-chaser" commercials with "if you were hurt by the bad economy, call 1-800-......."

The Way the Governement should run
http://jasonfalter.wordpress.com/2009/02/24/the-libertarian -government-view/

The libertarian Slant has a road map for how we should be operating the government but Obama is taking us so far away from anything remotely resembling what the founders had in mind.

Stimulus
The stimulus is a lot like porn. It obviously causes many people to feel stimulated, but it is very unlikely that anything worthwhile will be produced by it.

Accountability?
I found it highly amusing that Obama spoke of keeping accountability on the execution of this stimulus package and that they were going to track "every dollar spent."

How are they planning on accomplishing this when no one has even read the stupid thing in its entirety? How do they know what they're tracking?

Spending
Spending on give away programs will not stimulate the economy. More welfare, more food stamps, more free stuff. Business drives the economy and people being paid to stay home is outrageous. For too many years we have rewarded people to do nothing and just take. To redistribute the wealth is nothing more than the working paying for the slackers. And of course what would the 900 million we are sending to the UN for Gaze do to help our own country at a time like this? This group is just going to spend money to support a socialist society and paying off terrorists is not going to keep us safe only give them more money to attack us. I am afraid of what our country will look like 4 years from now with this group of nuts.

Stossel's understatement
So "some banks are struggling", huh? Wouldn't it be more accurate to say many banks are failing? Or hasn't Stossel been keeping up with the news?

Dr. Douglas
Present your data, Dr. Douglas, where an actual and viable economist said the so-called "stimulus" bill was too small.

I hope you aren't getting your information from other retired professors like yourself, as they have been proven to be inept and incorrect on every theory that pukes out of their mouth.

Oh, I also wrote a free analysis of you on Ben Shapiro's article. Consider it free healthcare. I know the word "free" is a turn on to you, fortunately for everyone, this did not cost the taxpayers a dime.

More TEA PARTY's scheduled for Friday

Great column John
Go away Dr. Doug. No one wants to hear what wannabe court jester Paul Krugman thinks. Okay, the guy has a phd in economics and won a Nobel prize for some work that has nothing to do with today's issues. His prescriptions today to fix our economy are nothing but political grandstanding for his favorite team.

Mike D2, No you are wrong
Only the very large banks that were allowed to become "too big to fail" are in trouble. There are over 10,000 community banks that are just fine as they did not get into the game of crappy lending, or were lucky enough to have had any bad loans bought by Freddie and Fannie before they were exposed to the light of a downturn in the housing market. Smart economists warned that the CRA would only work as long as the housing market stayed in a boom. Perhaps that is why Greenspan kept interest rates so low for far too long, knowing that he was simply postponing the crash until he was gone and fools still though him a genius.

Excellent
Excellent column Mr. Stossel, excellent!

I think this one is a permanent saver as we will want to get it out in a few years when folks wonder why it is still bad or if government was the solution. Most likely it will come in handy when we are going through "Stimulus" Bull #3 or 4 by then.

I enjoy reading every column of yours and Dr Williams and Sowell. Keep up the good work.

Confirm
Rich not wealthy is correct, most small community banks were not in danger of failing and still are not.

I think the popular argument that we "had to save the banks because they were going to fail" is a myth. Even if a few did, others in better positions would have taken their place.

Dr D said: "And who will take the blame for it being to small? The republicans - and they will deserve it."

Democrats are in control now and they do not need Republican votes to get what they want done. Everything done now is 100% pure Democrat. You cannot blame Republicans any longer. I know you want to, but you can't.

Greeted like an American Idol
It will be difficult until such time we all hit bottom and see no way up similar to the Roosevelt 'stimulous" called the New Deal will some of the entranced voters greeting Obama like an American Idol star break out of their trance and see what is actually happening.

Watching Obama last(give him A+ for style) night and the democrats response to him, I was mindful not of respected congressional officials but of awe struck teens. This does not give me encouagement for the future and sound thinking.

Proof
"The bottom line is that a lower unemployment rate will not prove that Obama's "stimulus" worked."

And the higher unemployment resulting from Republican does not prove their tax cuts were the culprit. Or the bad economy. Or the housing crises. Or the big spending.

Heck, we can't even prove that Bush signed every Republican big spending bill. OK, so that we can prove.

I guess nothing is ever "provable" to a Republican. Logic is not their strong point.

$36B Per Day

All the f'ing liberals that ranted about how much money we were spending in Iraq each month ($10b/mo.) under GWB can now explain how Obama's spending $36b/day is not dangerous and reckless. C'mon, Libtards, I am waiting.

Dr. Doggie says that the stimulus bull needed to be bigger and, if it fails, it will be the fault of Republicans. HA!

Hey, Doggie-Bone, if your thesis is correct about the need for a bigger stimulus bull, why doesn't your butt-boy in the WH just start crafting daily spending bills? C'mon, you want big? Well, then shite, let's just spend $1T each day!

Yippee, let's spend $1T per day and end this mutterfracking insanity soon!

BTW: Dr. Doggie, under universal medicine, services will be rationed and the elderly are not going to be able to get the medical treatment needed. They are going to be left to die.

That's right! Dr. Doggie, why don't you just go blow your few remaining brain cells out, already. DIE DR. DOGGIE, JUST DIE ALREADY.

YOUR BUTT-BOY IS GOING TO USE THE DASCHLE CARE FORMULA, WHICH CONTAINS A PROVISION FOR THE DUTY TO DIE.

Stocks Down Again.
The Stock Market is down another 150 points now. It should be soaring, just like The Magnificient Magician's oratory.

Just as I suspected before the speech last night,he would keep saying he inherited this mess. That is very important that it be drilled into the minds of the naive. It worked.

Good Article By John Stossel, as Usual.
Mr. Stossel makes his usual good points. I would say that republicans under Bush got this whole bailout thing started and are therefore not without blame. However, remember who ran Fanny and Freddie. It was democrats. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were asleep at the "banking" wheel for two years. Remember, Congress, starting in the House of R. controls spending and budgets. The Prez can agree with the spending or veto it. Dems took over congress in 2006, but the had some moderate republicans in two with them on their spending habits.

This massive new spending however, is all going to be tied, and rightly so, to Obama and the Democrats. Not by the mainstream media. I suspect they'll do everything they can to paper over the mistakes and the poor performance we are likely to see from the economy, due to massive spending increases on non stimulative pork projects. Most of the stimulis spending won't even happen for two to three years, just in time for the re election campaign to begin for Obama. The media will amplify ANY good news, no matter how small, and give Obama and the dems credit. They never did that for Bush when the stock market was rising. They amplified every piece of bad news, no matter how small, and attenuated ANY good news, no matter how good.

This is now the democrats government and economy. They own it. They should get credit if things work out and full blame if the economy performs poorly.

Pistol - great lead comment
Pistol - great comment. I am still shocked that the majority of Americans fell for this fraud. Your comment addresses that.

Also, Dr. Dumb**s, go away or we'll let everyone know your email address again.

bleak future
Pistol: good commentary. Obama has used lies all throughout his political career but nobody has challenged him because he is black. The duplicitous media will never hold him accountable. And since there are so many, I beg forgiveness for this, stupid and government dependent Americans, supporting him, he can get away with anything. Also when 70 million Americans do not vote this is what we get and deserve. Conservatives must ask themselves, did this happen overnight? No, and then they must ask why did we let it happen? This confluence of liberal media, dogmatic colleges and universities, liberal control of all levels of the judicary and liberal control of state and local governments led to his election. This has been brewing for 70 years. All the ranting here and on other threads is useless because our elected representatives are powerless.

0bama close to displacing Carter to #2
on "list of worst US presidents in history", even before 50 days (let alone 100) expired in his term:

(*) went to Ottawa with almsbowl equivalent just last week
(*) signed/approved biggest spending boondoggle of all history

(note for anyone who argues that Carter has already been displaced: thank you in advance for the correction).

Tracking Every Dollar
I didn't read the entire stimulus, but I don't recall hearing about any Department of Tracking Every Dollar. Just how is the tracking going to be done and who's going to do it? I don't know if we currently have a DoTED, but if not, we'll have to create one. And will these dollar-tracking Daniel Boones be empowered to stop any waste they see? Maybe that will fall to the Department of Evaluating Every Dollar Tracked. Excuse me, I think I'm gonna go hurl ...

GOP Contract in 2010
Let's hope the conventional wisdom, that the American voter votes his pocket book, is true. Let's also hope the GOP comes up with another contract with America that is free of deal-breakers that smack of socially conservative social engineering for the 2010 cycle. I know of many people who claim to have voted for Obama, et al, because they fear the imposition of right-wing moral values on them. I hope the next election is about restoring fiscal conservatism and gives the social issues a rest. I think it is safe to say that libertarians and conservatives generally agree on fiscal matters; it's the social issues where things come unglued. I promise to avoid campaigning for an end to the war on drugs (even though it has a serious economic component) if the social conservatives abstain from campaigning against abortion and gay rights (which have little if any impact on our economy). If we can agree to disagree on the social issues and agree that electing fiscal conservatives to congress in 2010 is of the utmost importance, we might be able to undo this catastrophe.

In the meantime, the GOP should just vote "present" on everything, like Obama did, so the Dems will not be able to say the GOP prevented them from really getting their way. I predict by 2010, the Dems will have driven the economy totally into the ditch with their complete lack of economic acumen, and if the GOP can get its act together as described above, it should be a shoo-in.

Well said and well written column.

Stimulate this
Dr. Douglas(again besmirching my good name)is pro-"stimulus" because he wants the feds to remove his "I love Bill" tattoo.

Keynes
would make a distinction between government spending "paid for by savings" and deficit spending. The solution to a problem depends greatly on the context.

could have been a reasonable column
It seemed like Stossel was going to make a fair point. There is no way with Obama (or with any other president) to be sure whether he did a good job, both because there are two many other factors left over from before he took office, and there is no way to know how things would have been for sure if other policies had been followed.

Economists follow trends to try to judge the effects of policies, but obviously it is an inexact science.

But instead the article winds up being Stossel's usual know-nothing nonsense. He takes the word of non-economist Amity Shales that the depression was extended by government interaction. He seems to be unbothered by the fact that things improved as government action increased and got worse when government action decreased.

But the natural thing would be to look at other cases before the government become so fundamental to our economic system. If Stossel is right, pre-depression recessions should have been shorter than post-depression recessions because after the depression the government became more interationists.

The reality is they were not. Recessions before the depression were substantially longer on average than after. Reality simply does not match Stossel's theory. His reaction is to ignore reality.

Judging Obama
Unfortunately the judgment of Obama will come to late for most. When the homeless camps on the national mall are recreated in our time we will finally realize that we have been enslaved by our own failure to realize that good words do not equate to good deeds. In an earlier time Lyndon Johnson proposed the Great Society, the abject failure of that vision should give us pause when we consider its return under Obama. Mr. Obama was a child of just that environment and so his insistence that it should be recreated is no surprise. But please remember the great society benefited neither the recipients or the country. If we do not lean from history we are doomed to repeat it.

Idaho Rich

Let the Media do it, instead
As a retiree, this is my fourth recession. I see no evidence that most have any idea how recovery actually happens. Start by realizing that this economy we talk about doesn' exist, really except in the minds of statistians reporting last month's numbers. The only real economies are households, and they are all different.
Layoffs and unemployment come from excesses, so the economy won't come back to the way it was, even if the government tries to prop housding up. People will get out and sniff out new opportunities. Government doen't even know that they exist and emerging innovations don't even show up in their massive data sets. The new ventures hire others and unemployment falls. That is what happens. I have participated in it. Although government can't even detct this, the media could facilitate it a lot with information and by promoting networking. Because recovery requires people to reqch outside the familiar there are many false starts.

Learn a lesson?
I have heard many conservatives state that if the next four years is REALLY bad, which it will be, maybe some liberals will learn something from it. The idea that maybe hitting bottom will show them how to think in a more reasonable manner. I don't think so. They didn't learn anything after FDR, they won't learn anything after Obama.

Edna,
Thank you for the link. I am going to be there bright and early in San Diego this Friday morning. I'll let you all know how it went.

WASTE OF TIME
ARROGANT ELITIST

But then again Keynes makes no sense. Early in the General Theory he says saving and investment must always be equal, later he says an imbalance between the two is the cause of economic problems. How can there be an imbalance between two numbers that are equal?

Keynes wasn't an economist, he was an apologist for deficit spending and inflation. No wonder he is the darling of government economists and politicians.

(For those unfamiliar with Keynes, who have some time to kill, read Hazlitt's "The Failure of The New Economics". Chapter by chapter refutation of Keynes, and one I have yet to hear rebutted.)

Is Obama a Wannbe Dictator?
I can't even watch American Idol without him sticking his ugly face in my television screen.
I hope he does not plan to do this on a regular basis...but Dictators love the limelight, don't they?

The Question from Hardnox
You asked, "what do leftists really want?" I doubt if they really know in any definitive way just what they see would be a perfect social order. But, one thing they do know and that is resentment. Watch the body language of these people, they exhibit a seething anger. They resent anybody who has accomplished great things by their own efforts. They resent what they term "the rich". They hate large Corporations, because they are convinced that the workers are abused by the managers or owners, and, of course, these productive companies cause all of the pollution. They more than likely own no stock, unless it is in their trust funds, therefore, they hate Wall Street and wish to see it brought down. Those damn rich people again. Remember if somebody has accumulated wealth they certainly have accomplished this by "robbing" the poor.

They oppose states rights because they believe that left to local state governments, they would probably bring back slavery. They especially detest the South. They detest those pick-up-driving, gun-toting, baseball cap wearing mocho "rednecks". Why do they hate them, just because dammit.

These leftists are not very worldly, most have never been inside a manufacturing facility; have no idea how things are produced. They've probably never mowed a lawn, painted a building, fixed a plumbing leak or weeded a garden. They have never spent time on a farm and watched things grow. They create nothing and resent those who can create and build.

So what do they really want? Essentially they want to see those that they envy punished by Government. They want guaranteed outcomes. These losers will do very little with their lives. They will leave very little of substance behind them. They just want everybody to be equal in a common mediocrity.

Patrick
Did you have some kind of point you wanted to make?

To Old Progrmr
Gosh, you must be a really Old Progrmr because I remember what you said fifty or sixty years ago when some segregationist was running for office in the South on the platform that educated people were stupid. "Why, them eggheads," he drawled, "them there eggheads, they don't know how to change them no tar. If they get them a flat tar, alls they know how to do is stand by the side of the road and cry until some real man comes along to fix it for 'em." Then the crowd would cheer and break again into a chorus of "Two, four, six, eight/ We don't want to integrate", before returning to their favorite activity, spitting on little children trying to attend first grade.

So, Old Progrmr, it's the leftists who are resentful and "seething" with anger? I suggest you read townhall more carefully. Posters here have advised that Democrats should be rounded up, incarcerated behind barbed wire, interrogated at bayonet point, and killed. A regular poster links to his blog where his serialized novella carries the plot line of "Patriots" shooting "Socialists" in the head then feeding their bodies to dogs. Posters regularly advise armed insurrection and armed resistance of government. One yesterday hoped that a plane would crash into the building where Obama was speaking. Right-wingers brag about how many weapons they own. They advise burying a cache of weapons. Adopting a permanent identity of persecuted minority, they feel justified in perpetrating any degree of violence. They sound pretty angry to me.

US Military Officer V. OBAMA

During the past couple months since the election I have suffered severe mental anguish due to this situation and have been torn on what to do. My oath and allegiance to the Constitution will not allow me to sit idle while our country is overthrown by an internal enemy. Based on all information I have seen and read, I am greatly concerned that America has elected as President someone who is not qualified to hold the postion and is an usurper. His actions thus far, and stated intended future actions, prove him to be an enemy of the United States.

As an active-duty officer, I can be sent to combat at any time. I believe that gives me legal standing to question Mr. Obama's legal qualification to serve as my Commander in Chief.

Respectfully,

John, Good Job
I asked Harry Reid before this vote a series of questions much like yours.
When will the economy turn around if we do this?
When will it turn around if we don't?
What are the benchmarks for success?
and so forth.

I'm particularly interested in one thing. He is advocating amnesty for those hear illegally. He also wants to give a bunch of free stuff to lower income workers. So he is pushing a policy of rewarding law breakers at the expense of those who worked hard an played by the rules. I asked if this was good public policy.

I'm still waiting to hear from him, but I'm sure he will respond soon. When he does I will let you know what he says.

Riiiight.

My lessons
I've learned my lessons in the Soviet Union, under one party rule, with no free press. Education, radio, TV, newspapers, publishing was controlled by the Communist government.
So the government can claim virtually anything.
When collective farms failed to produce the grain and bread, Communist party blamed the draught, American bugs, imperialism, enemies of the people...
When something good happens, like no major war in many years (after WW2) it takes the credit, although no one had any desire to attack Soviet Union.
When all newspapers scream we love peace, it meant another nuclear bomb was added to the Soviet arsenal.

The moral: when mass media is on the side of government or tightly controlled by it, we the people will never know the truth.

My opinion: What does the community organizer do? Request more government spending for a particular community. That's what Obama does now. He does not know better. And as such, he is used by Pelozi, Reid and Co. to their great advantage. Not to our advantage.

old progrmr
Actually, Congress really doesn't care if these governmental interventions in the economy work. Many of them are wealthy and can whether the recession just fine, unlike most of the American public. From http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/03/congress-has-wealt h-to-weather.html

"U.S. senators had a median net worth of approximately $1.7 million in 2006, the most recent year for which their financial data is available, and 58 percent of the Senate's members could be considered millionaires. In the House of Representatives, the median net worth was about $675,000, with 44 percent of members having net worths estimated to be at least $1 million. By contrast, only about 1 percent of all American adults had a net worth greater than $1 million around the same time."

Of the top ten wealthiest Congressmen/women, 7 are democrats.

Is it any wonder that they are out of touch with real America?

Yep
BO, or Moron #1 will tell us it is successful or not and whether it needs more money. And I've had people tell me now is not the time to start a business. Business is what makes the economy is it not? I'm supposed to just put my needs on hold until it is "time" to start a business?

Let me save you the trouble of wondering
Some back-of-the-envelope calculations show that within the next two years, there will be at least another half trillion dollars in financial writes-down due to all the mark-to-market rules currently in force or about to be in force.

These writes-down will probably drive at least a trillion dollars in losses from lowered credit ratings.

Since money is fractionally reserved, with credit extended at a rate of appoximately ten times the fractional reserve, that means we are looking at a loss of roughly $15T, or just higher than our highest GDP on record.

For those that are a little slow on the uptake, that means that a year's worth of work and production will be lost over the next couple of years.

I'm sure you don't have to be a rocket surgeon to figure out the implications of that.

bailouts
First,on Sept 19 there was an electronic run on the money markets accounts in the US. Over 550 billion dolars disappeared in a couple hours. If the fed did not act quickly the entire banking system would have been wiped out. The first bailout was put in place and 350 billion was handed out to stop the bleeding.Thank the Bush administration for acting quickly. However,a lack of accountability has led to many questions and possible fraud. Who led this attempted wipeout hasnt been named or why.The MSM hasnt said a word about this which to me means that this action was timed and orchestrated to help throw the election. By the way if you recall McCain was leading in the polls at the timeand Obama was on the verge of blowing the election.
What we face today isnt just a USA problem , it is truly global. Coutries around the world arre melting down. Iceland is bankrupt,Switzerland is teetering now with most of Europe close behind. The bailouts being forced on us wont work period. because they arent designed to. Communism on the march. Its gonna get ugly before it ends.

These turds in office cost me
19 THOUSAND BUCKS out of my fund!!!!!! They can't operate a lemonade stand and want to run the economy. Screw Keynes!!!! HAYEK and FRIEDMAN should be the ONLY views taught on campuses if we're to save the Republic.
