Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

It's hard to miss the point: The freest countries are far more pleasant places in which to live. Countries with little or no economic freedom make life hellish for all but the politicians or dictators in charge (and even for some of them).

The good news, says Gwartney, is that economic freedom is increasing. "The average rating of the 99 countries for which data are available continuously since 1980 has increased from 5.5 in 1985 to 6.6 in 2005," he says. "The primary factors underlying this increase are lower top marginal tax rates, more stable monetary policy, lower tariffs and less regulation of international trade and some relaxation of restrictions on the movement of capital."

Gwartney's data also show the relationship between economic freedom and income. As countries get freer, per capita GDP rises. The least-free nations have a per-capita GDP of about $3,300. The next group up the freedom ladder has a per capita GDP of about $6,100; the next, $10,773. The freest group of nations comes in at more than $26,000.

Gwartney's data show that it's better to be poor in a more-free country than in a less-free country. In the freest countries, the poorest 10 percent earn on average more than $7,300 a year versus $905 in the least free countries. And, of course, in a free society, people often move out of the poorest groups.

Finally, the study also finds a strong correlation between economic freedom and environmental quality.

It is beyond dispute. Economic freedom leads to good things, while government coercion leads to poverty and oppression.

It's stunning that some people still find the free market controversial.

Freedom The Outcome of Respect for...
Personal Self-Mastery

The Liberal Statist philosophy and practices are the antithesis to all freedom, economic and personal.

'This insight shouldn't come as news, but unfortunately it will because prejudice against the profit motive and property rights leads many to believe that government coercion is better than free markets at making life better.'

'What is economic freedom exactly? As the report puts it, "individuals have economic freedom when they are free to use, exchange, or give their property as long as their actions do not violate the identical rights of others."'

Our freedom is being threatened internationally by epidemics of addiction and the promotion of ignorance and moral corruption. To live and let live, unrestrained by conscience, integrity, ethics or principle and law. That is what Same-Sex-Marriage is about, and the outburst of sex deliberately and purposefully displayed in public, as it did on Canada Day on the first of July 2008, in Victoria, BC. These are promoted to serve of purposeful destruction of morel values, and to break the spirit of honor and virtue, the beauty of modesty and to destroy character and civil respect and the practice and freedoms of a moral loving people.

OPPOSING STANDARDS ARE EQUAL TO NO STANDARDS, LEADING TO CORRUPTION, DECAY, CONFLICT AND RUIN. The Government of the United States of America, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were created to prevent abuse of unjust power and corruption, which corrupt judges of the supreme courts want to compromise. ONLY THE WILL OF AN HONORABLE MORALLY INFORMED PUBLIC MAY AVERT SUCH A DISASTER.

A Freerer World is a better World
So Mr. Stossell when will the American unborn regain freedom to be born, as the America butcher
shops daily butcher thousands of more American unborn babies and adding them to the already mass grave of over 50 million since Roe v Wade? Yes, economic freedom while to hell with the American unborn babies, so that materialism can destroy America more and more as now George W., Paulson, Bernanke and the Democrats are going to prove with handouts Socialism/Communism style, so that the American economy may not completely tank for now, while the future generation of Americans, the ones that did not end up in the mass grave of unborn, will be saddled with, as the National Debt grows fast and wild, with Communists China, America's preferred banker? Mr. Stossel do you have an answer for the American people in term of a freerer world is a better world? Yes, if you are free sitting on your pedestal does not mean true freedom for all, even in good old America. This from a Staunch Conservative Republican becoming one soon after the law allowed as a legal immigrant of 52 years. Oh yes, some rocks may come my way! To which I will simply say: You are welcome, you are actually proving my point.
