Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Imagine how DeMarcus Blackwell felt when he was told that his son Chris had engaged in "sexual contact and/or sexual harassment" at school. School officials in Waco, Texas, said Chris rubbed his face in the chest of a female teachers' aide.

Well, before you can imagine this father's reaction, you need to know one other fact: His son was 4 years old when the "sexual" incident occurred.

What got Chris into trouble was giving the aide a hug. Only after DeMarcus strenuously complained did the school change the boy's record from "sexual harassment" to "inappropriate physical contact."

At least Chris wasn't sent to jail, as were 13-year-old Cory Mashburn and 12-year-old Ryan Cornelison of McMinnville, Ore. The boys were charged with five counts of felony sex abuse in the first degree because of their conduct toward some 13-year-old girls at their middle school.

Cory's mom, Tracie, got the terrible phone call. "He had been touching some girls, and we needed to get down to the juvenile detention. They were arresting him," she told me.

Police officer Marshall Roache read the boys their Miranda rights. "Then he asked me if I understood them, but I didn't," Cory told me. "I thought you had to say yes. So I said yes."

What had the boys done?

"It was just a game," Cory said. "You'd slap somebody, they'd slap another person, you got slapped, and you slapped somebody else."

The "victims" of the felony sex abuse don't consider themselves victims. "Every Friday, we would have Slap Butt Day, and pretty much we would just go around slapping people's butts," said Megan Looney, one of the girls involved.

Officer Roache also claimed that the boys "dry humped" the girls. But the girls say all the boys did was "party boy": "It's just like a really funny dance," said Madie, another of the girls. "All the boys do it. They, like, bounce up and down, and it's really funny because they look really retarded."

The boys didn't touch the girls when "party boy" dancing, but Officer Roache still called it dry humping in his police report.

Madie said that missed the mark. "They don't think of it as, like, they're trying to hump us or something. They're just like trying to act stupid.

"We don't think they should be punished for it."

But punished they were. The boys were locked up for six days. The police "pushed us up against the wall. … They strip-searched us and then they put us in our cells," Cory told me. Ryan added: "Every time a lawyer, somebody, came to talk to us, we had to get strip-searched afterwards." He said this happened six or seven times.

The first night, their parents waited at the jail but couldn't see them or even talk to them on the phone. They didn't get to see their boys until two days later.

That's jail policy, the district attorney told their lawyer. No communications until visiting day.

After six days in jail, the boys were released but banned from school and from seeing many of their friends. The district attorney, who wouldn't talk to "20/20," demanded a trial. It took half a year before a judge would finally hear a motion to dismiss charges.

By that time, all the girls had signed affidavits saying they didn't think the boys should be prosecuted. The charges were dropped.

The district attorney says she'd do it again because she did nothing wrong.

Give me a break.

Genuine sexual harassment is nasty, but it's also nasty when politically correct prosecutors and timid lawsuit-fearing school administrators jail kids for small infractions.

"There's been a disturbing increase in the trend of arresting children for minor infractions that often would have been taken care of … by simply calling in the parent," says Jakada Imani of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. "Criminalizing our young people at younger and younger ages … has to be deeply troubling for anybody concerned about this country's future."

Adults should take a course in common sense before they upset more kids' lives over things like a hug or a silly game.

Where it all started
All this started when the majority said schools can't punish the children. A bunch of cry babies got together and said you can't spank my child. Now, all that happens is they get suspended or expelled and we have more uneducated children who don't learn how to live in a society and accept responsiblity. Now parents are afraid to punish their children because the child my complain to the school or call the police say it's child abuse. It all starts at home people, if you're not willing to punish you kids then someone else will have to. So wake-up, and get real! Get off your lazy butts, teach your kids right from wrong, take interest in what they're doing before the wrong people do.

The truth is ...
this is merely the progression of the length to which we have slid into the slime after the devaluation of the preborn child in, I believe, 1972!

Thanks a lot women's libbers - you didn't know WHEN to quit did you? You burned your bras, demanded "equality" and you got it along with disrespect, heightened sexual assaults, having to pay child support in divorces, abandoning your children to somebody else for a career, ad infinitem!

This article just points out the result of many years of ignorance and selfishness of us as human beings.

Disgusting and disgusted!

To scooter
Okay, got it. Your meaning was not clear to me; perhaps I'm not all that bright.

You appeared to be claiming that it is impossible to provide *too much* information to any child, regardless of age. I understand you now.

Those religious people are *right*, by the way, at least to a certain extent. No level of sex instruction is appropriate for three year olds.
If you believe there IS some level of sex ed appropriate for pre-schoolers, I'd love to hear about it.

Tallil2long
Wow! I didn't know that I had suggested that 8 year olds need to learn condom use. I could swear that it says, "it doesn't mean you need to teach 8 year olds condom use" - which is explicit language that condom use to an 8 year old is NOT appropriate.

Condom use to a teenager starting puberty, is appropriate.

""Thinking any level of education is too soon, is being in denial of the world in which you live."

You don't understand the statement. Those who are religious think that ANY level of education is too soon. Do you get it now?

You're so ready to be offended you don't even read the post properly. More liberal emotional molotov cocktails thrown into the thread.

To scooternyc
"Thinking any level of education is too soon, is being in denial of the world in which you live. "

...directly contradicts...

"It doesn't mean you have to teach condom use to 8 year olds"

Either condom use is an appropriate level of education for 8 year old, in which case your first statement is false, or it is not, in which case your second statement is incorrect.

My eight year old daughter doesn't need to know about putting condoms on little boys' weewees. She needs her parents protecting and supervising her and providing activities appropriate to her level of development. We DO teach her not to let people touch her in certain ways and what to do about it, and we WILL teach her about condoms and other such matters when she gets a little older.
Were her mother and I to utterly neglect her and abandon her to the human wolves, then you might be right. But we are not going to do that.

Your own fault
If you're religious and having issue with this article in refutation of it, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Keeping children/teens ignorant of sexual behavior, both inappropriate and appropriate, is forced ignorance.

It doesn't mean you have to teach condom use to 8 year olds, but you should teach them about people who might try to befriend them, gain their trust, and then entice them into sex.

There are some amazing experts out there that could develop such programs to educate children at all levels - which they need!

Thinking any level of education is too soon, is being in denial of the world in which you live.

You're willing to teach a child about a myth who comes down the chimney but not about the real world where he/she might get hurt.

Sounds religiously logical.

Uptight
If our nation wasn't so uptight about sex to begin with, we'd be able to discuss these things more openly in classrooms, pointing out the appropriateness of behavior on different levels.

When you think about most employment situations, you're required to attend a class(es) which go over these types of policies, laying it out on the line, addressing questions, and providing expectations for the work place.

How are schools any different when providing expectation for behavior?

Of course, if you're uptight about sex, for a motivation we won't pursue, then you can expect these behaviors to increase with continued forced ignorance on our kids.

To KM
"As to the 13 yr old boys, I suspect there was a bit of sexuality going on, even if not consciously. That is the age, and boys will show off for the girls, in whatever way will get them attention"

Agreed. Once upon a time, this was understood and allowed for; boys were taught what constituted acceptable behavior, and straightened out sternly whenever they transgressed. The object was to train boys NOT to become little predators, while at the same time guiding them safely through a stage in life in which they could get into serious trouble.

Now many parents just let their boys run wild. You can't imagine how many parents I've seen who just don't think it their duty to stay informed on where their boys are, whom they are with, what they are doing (and to whom), let alone establish and enforce effective controls. I am reminded of the woman whose adolescent son was arrested for raping girls during a gang initiation: she stood on television and said "My baby ain't no rapist". In truth, she had no idea WHAT her baby was. And of course, the 'father' of the boy was nowhere to be found...
This is one of the reasons that so many parents, public schools, and the legal system, have become hyper-sensitive to alleged sexual misconduct on the part of children. It's not JUST some weird form of social-engineering.
The key point is not to be indiscriminate towards contact of varying sorts: slapping on the butt on the playground is NOT the same, say, as forcing against the wall and groping.

P.S. Insanity
How in the name of God can a 4 year old child be labelled as a sex offender? "Inappropriate physical contact"? For hugging a teacher's aide?? Children naturally hug adults who care for them. They've been doing that for the last three million years. And the reasons why should be obvious.

Yet, these very same "educators" are the ones who give us classes on condom use and birth control pills- parents be damned- for kids in Middle School! That's because in the liberal universe, children are "sexual beings". There is not only nothing special or wonderful about children anymore, the very idea of a "child" has been redefined to the point where the term has become essentially meaningless.

You needn't look any further than the usage of children in the popular culture to see their perverse concepts given form. In TV programs like "Law & Order: SVU", in movies like "Hounddog" and in fashion photo shoots like Mark Jacobs', the "little-adult-patsy" mentality has taken hold. Through the education establishment, it is imposed on children whose parents cannot effectively combat it's gross immorality... even as their tax dollars are stripped from their labors to pay for it.

Vouchers are the only answer
And not just for poor kids.

We need vouchers for every child in this country, and let the public schools compete for the money, just like any other school, or home schools.

It's fine to have national standards that must be achieved to pass to the next grade (ONLY on school subjects, like Math and English - NOT SEX ED), but no indoctrination of any kind must be included in those standards.

If parents want to teach their kids math and geography at a religious school, then that is their business, and no government should stop them.

I'd be seriously interested to see just how many people would opt to keep their kids in the public schools, if they had the option to place them wherever they wanted.

I suspect the schools in even nice suburban areas would see a significant drop in attendance. I know I pulled mine out for a while, and ours was a nice suburban town. Atrocious school, though.

Runny noses...
I can tell you, it's far more likely that the 4-yr old who rubbed his face in the teachers chest had a runny nose, than a sexual interest in her chest. Stupid, but true, and I've seen it first hand. Little kids won't use a tissue, but they gladly wipe their noses on anything handy, and your shirt is just as good as theirs.

As to the 13 yr old boys, I suspect there was a bit of sexuality going on, even if not consciously. That is the age, and boys will show off for the girls, in whatever way will get them attention.

It's unfortunate that TV, movies, video games, AND schools feel compelled to sexualize everything these kids see, at ever earlier ages.

As unfair as it may seem, the schools ARE the problem, because while they are teaching sexual practices earlier and earlier, they are simultaneously cracking down on anything remotely sexual with an ever harsher punishment.

It should come as no surprise that kids are acting sexual earlier, since they are being inundated earlier and earlier. How can we be surprised?

This is what is called ...
Complete lunacy and the death of all common sense in this country.

We have allowed the smut industry, the MTV's, Girls Gone Wild, condoms for 11 year olds in school, acceptance and celebration of "alternative" life styles, removal of all reference to the Creator etc., etc., ad nauseum - just to name a few - until we have reached this point. You know what they say: Sew the wind; reap the whirlwind.

Well, that's what's happening folks! We are ruining our own society for generations to come, or we are allowing it to happen!

Unbelievable!
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Zero tolerance strikes again! If you are at all interested in protecting your children against this madness, don't wait until trouble starts. Visit http://totallyunjust.tripod.com and find out the real facts.

Unfortunately just to defend your 'guilty until proven innocent' child in a zero tolerance case will cost the average parent $1,000. Most don't have it, so we are forced to bend over to this form of legal gang rape. It's a power trip and an authority thing.

What really stinks is that OUR tax money pays these hysterical administrators, the school attorney, the police and the prosecutor their salaries. What a profitable racket they are running on us, even more particularly so if some of them or their families have money invested in those "alternative schools" they throw the expelled children into.

I'm confused
Can somebody tell me why this is "illegal Sexual Harassment"

"It was just a game," Cory said. "You'd slap somebody, they'd slap another person, you got slapped, and you slapped somebody else."

The "victims" of the felony sex abuse don't consider themselves victims. "Every Friday, we would have Slap Butt Day, and pretty much we would just go around slapping people's butts," said Megan Looney, one of the girls involved.

But this is OK?

The police "pushed us up against the wall. … They strip-searched us and then they put us in our cells," Cory told me. Ryan added: "Every time a lawyer, somebody, came to talk to us, we had to get strip-searched afterwards." He said this happened six or seven times.

The real victims of sexual harassment?
aurorawatcher said...
"Finally, just because the girls didn't object doesn't make it right."

Did you miss the part about the girls doing it too? Did you notice that only boys got arrested? That only boys were strip searched? Do you remember that quaint old concept of equality?

In my country in the past few years dozens of women have been charged with raping boys. NOT ONE OF THEM SPENT A SINGLE MINUTE IN JAIL. Compare that to the experience of the two boys in Oregon.

Every minute of every day for every male in every western country. He has to self censor every word he utters. He must lower his eyes in the presence of any female lest he appears to be ogling her. Any act can be considered sexual harassment and it's up to the woman to determine what is and what isn't. And it's determined after the fact. Being innocent is no defence. Just being accused is enough to ruin the rest of his life.

Why weren't the girls in Oregon charged even though they indulged in EXACTLY the same behaviour? Why do male victims of rape by women see a lesser measure of justice - if any at all?

So tell me again about sexual harassment. Tell me why I shouldn't consider every male alive in the west to be a victim of sexual harassment every minute of every day?

And in case you forgot - all men are rapists and every act of heterosexual intercourse is a rape.

Talli2
Exactlly the banishment of innocence, often times at family gatherings I find myself sayin "the generation gap is there for a reason" when I find too much familarity (sp) in the conversations between adults and teens. It always surprises me how much like my father I have become.

Interesting implications here
We have had reason to suspect for some time that the notion of blurring age distinctions was an agenda in some circles.

Pretending that teaching abstinence to kids is useless.
Marketing sexy clothing to ever-younger girs.
Expecting and encouraging adult-like political conduct from children.
Soft-pedalling sexual relations between adults and minors.
Refusing to acknowledge some traditional aspects of parental authority over kids.
Excusing parents who basically treat their kids like adults -- never keeping up with who their kids friends are, their whereabouts and activities.

It was really only a short step to pretending that four-year-olds have the same understanding of sex as adults.

The banishment of childhood innocence is on, baby.

Who's to blame?
Fascinating. The very people, the "right", who claim to decry our deteriorating moral values in our public schools because of "the liberals", claim they are ALSO outraged over disciplining students for acting in a sexually suggestive and certainly harassing way towards fellow students, and AGAIN try to scapegoat "the liberals" for being too "puritanical" this time... GIMMIE A BREAK.

Obviously these are two extreme cases (where it's obvious the prosecutor went too far), in a nation of MILLIONS of schools which have NOT had anything like this happen to their students. To blame "public schools" for (and deciding to home-school one's kids and stunt their socialization) because of these isolated cases is simply absurd. And of course both the students' and administrators'/prosecutor's actions could have happened (and does) JUST as easily in a private or parochial school.

But to blame some case in Oregon on public schools across America is just plain ridiculous. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't go blaming Michigan for something New Mexico (or Oregon) did. I'm sorry if other citizens don't have pride in their community public school systems, but we sure do in ours. We have EXCELLENT public schools with excellent teachers (and competent administrators) in my city, and in our neighboring communities (mostly working and middle-class, btw). Gee, maybe that's partly because most of us parents here are actively involved with the PTO and their childrens' teachers, school studies and activities, and proud to pay the taxes to keep the educational quality as high as it is).

I suggest if more parents posting here would get more active and involved with their children's schools and activities, and grouse a little less about them, they'd help their schools become something to be proud of too.

What happened to
common sense? The legal system is out of control. Everyone is so afraid of getting sued, they go by the book, even when it is ridiculous to do so.

Perjury
The kids should have lied, and threatened anyone who didn't go along with the lie. After all, they'd have only been lying and suborning about sex. That's not a crime is it?

Two sides to this issue
First, the four-year-old should not be equated with the older children. Sounds like he was just being a little kid.

Having said that -- I've seen this "dance" at my daughter's junior high last year and dry-humping is what came to my mind as well. My daughter told several boys to back off of her or she'd embarrass them deeply. When you get into the teen years, sex is on their minds and there are standards that parents and the schools should uphold.

Having said that -- it was ridiculous to call the police in. Everybody should have had proper decorum taught to them and in-school suspension if they violated -- boys AND girls. While in ISS, the subject should have been hammered into them. There are certain things we just don't do after a certain age and sexually-evocative actions are among them.

Finally, just because the girls didn't object doesn't make it right. My husband works construction and a few years ago one of the female apprentices was inviting the male apprentices to joke about sex with her. My husband, suspecting a law was being violated, told his apprentice not to go there. It's morally wrong and I, your supervisor, say don't do it. His apprentice obeyed because apprentice electricians don't want to make their journeymen mad. Well, when layoffs came at the end of the season, she filed sexual harrassment suits so that she could keep her job and the other apprentices wouldn't. Only, BJ's apprentice hadn't been involved. He got to stay on the job.

A lay-preacher friend of mine once said it well. Just because somebody buys the heroin doesn't mean you're not wrong for selling it. Wrong is still wrong even if the victim doesn't recognize that.

Adam Walsh Act
If you think this is bad, just wait until the Adam Walsh Act has gone national. New born children will be placed on the list for touching their mother's breast.

It's stories like this
that make me believe that if I still had children in school, they would be home-schooled! Public education has gotten into the clutches of the far left bigtime!

Hey Verbivore!
How are you? Have you read "Blue Like Jazz?" It's really a neat book. I think you would like it. Cheers!

Another Southern DA
Sounds reimiscent of another DA that need to be investigated herself. Did she play games as a child or was she ignored in the playground?

PC Gone Mad
As to the 4 year old: My God he is 4 YEARS OLD. Give it a break. The kid couldn't define sexual harassment if he tried. The situation with the older kids is iffy at best but when they start being arrested things have gone too far. This easily could have been handled by the principal, teachers and parents. Of course if it were two boys or two girls showing questionable same sex behavior towards each other or a female teacher having an affair with an underage boy they would be considered heroes and the powers that be would say, I am sure, no harm no foul. The bottom line is that to try to help our kids we have gone over the top and some common sense needs to prevail. But considering the current political correctness atmosphere everywhere you look I am not optimistic.

better yet
I bet the DA has no children. Let's wish on her a whole pack of boys. 3 or 4 should do it. Heck, even one, then she can arrest her own son and bring him up on charges when he wants a hug.

Questions of responsibility..

So the D.A. said she'd do it again? Where is that she got the idea that this kind of normal childish behaviour was unnacceptable? If children are minors until considered adults then leave them alone and let parents and children deal with "unnacceptable" behaviours until such time as they mature into adults.

The experience that those kids had with the legal system was far more traumatizing than anything either of the parties of kids endured. Their childish behaviour in no way impacts negatively on their futures as adults.

Send the D.A. away until she has completed a child psychology course and begins to understand what it is to be a young human.

I consider those adults in the legal system in this case to have behaved very irresponsibly regarding this matter. Their stupidity is scary.

ChairmanMao...sorry misspelled your name
:-(

CahirmanMao
I call our legal system death by a thousand suits.

The American way
One hundred new laws a year every year.

We call that progress.

someone told the teacher I was showing
Oh my, this brings back memories of nearly 75 years ago. Haven’t thought of this for years, but it did actually happen.

I was in second grade in a 4 room school. I was just sitting there doing nothing that I knew of, when the teacher came and dragged me out of class. She then put her pointing finger and thumb in a circle and asked why I was doing that.

I had no idea what she was talking about, but several years later (in 7th or 8th grade) someone reminded me of that occasion, and said I had made the circle with finger and thumb and was moving my pencil back and forth in that circle, and someone told the teacher I was showing the sexual act.

Well, I had 6 brothers and sisters, lived on a farm where cows, pigs, and chickens were being born all the time, but I had no idea what the teacher, or this kid, was talking about.

Well, they didn’t make a big deal of it at the time, but … … aw well.

conservatives are to blame for feminism?
Only if you factor in that they did not fight against it hard enough and allowed mythology to supplant common sense.

We are all to blame
This is the society we have created:

Were is in everyone best-interest for things to be awful.

Bureaucrats get to ask for more money to address the sexual harassment crisis.

Police officers need more money to have front stores in every school.

Lawyers increase their pool of prospective clients to kids in kindergarten.

Judges, psychiatrist, psychologist, social workers, teachers. They all get a bigger piece of the action.

Journalist get to write about it and fill an empty page.

Big brother is watching you and that is what we all want.

The only difference between Republican and Democrats are the things they want the government to regulate. They are both for a big government that cares from us from c-section to grave.

Who cares if we live in a Soviet style twightlight zone.

no solutions offered
All the posts here are nothing more than exasperated disgust.
Big deal. That changes nothing; just a catharsis.

There needs to be a movement to remove all sex harrassment laws from the books.

We already have harrassment laws which are sufficient.

conservatives are to blame

Much of this started at the judge Thomas Hearings when harrassment became the hot topic and feminism. It ended up in laws which led to the Clinton stuff.

And where were conservative. No cajones. They voted for these laws and set up an atmosphere that we are now paying the price.

The only person in public life that I know that saw what this was all about and spoke up against this was and is Camille Paglia, a lesbian scholar.

There should be no sex harrassment laws except maybe quid pro quo.

mcminnville sexual harassment case!
Ah - have we heard this story before - oh yes - in Durham, NC - they had police and a DA like McMinnville does. Past tense for the Durham DA - what about the one in McMinnville, Oregon - have the folks up there had enough sense to get rid of her?

Out-of-Control and Self-Serving, Stupid DAs - Durham and McMinnville, Oregon!!!!!!!!

Get a life, What do you tie up your children's hands before they go to sleep so they dont touch sensitive parts.

You are as bad as the culprits in this piece. Read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn; watch young dogs and cats and playing each other.

What these kids were doing in Oregon was nothing more than playful behavior in bounds; there was no force or violation of the dignity of the girls.

What a bore you are. You cant distinguish between the vile and the playful, so shut it all down.

Johnnyp
Good point. Too bad it is only words. I'd like to beat them over the head with it!

Best wishes to you too.

Mrs P
Yes... you are probably correct.

But I love to use their own terminology. I think arguments are pretty strong when you use the opponent’s philosophies and terminology to prove your own point.

Best wishes

Johnnyp
Semantics. Sexism was the driving force behind the PC movement. I don't agree with either position. This has become the most egregious attack on our freedom of speech in my lifetime.

mrs Paddy
In my view it is not PCism... it is blatant sexism.

Many Liberals call Christians
a bunch of "Puritans" for taking a stand against abortion etc. We're supposed to turn a blind eye to their 'freedom' to engage in sex without consequence, but heaven forbid someone should say the wrong thing in the work place (or school).

I agree with the poster above who said the police should be charged with sexual abuse of the boys in their custody.

All I can say is, if it had been my boys in jail, I would have been right there with them. They would have arrested me for threatening the police with a gun to release my kids.

I think the prosecutor should be disbarred, and sued by the parents for unreasonable search and seizure. I'd sue the teachers and school district to, since law suits and monetary damages seem to be the only 'legitimate' punishment for such utter stupidity.

I hate PCism. It is insidious and dangerous. It's not funny, and it never has been.

Our poor children. The Bible says something about sacrificing children to Baal....guess what? I think that is exactly what our society does.

We strip children of their innocence, expose them to hyper-sexualized media/entertainers/ entertainment, violence is glorified, and for the rest, we abort them before they even have a chance to live.

And then, these stupid 'educators' who have opened the door for the horse to get out of the barn, try to make up for it with political correctness to salve their own culpability in failing our children.

Yes, Audi, parents need to be parents, but you miss the larger issue.

Society will be sorry after it succeeds
… at turning all males into eunuchs.

It seems that society is attacking on all fronts… trying to beat masculinity out of all males using criminal laws, government regulation, mass media, corporate policies…

It will not be long until most males realize there is not much in it for them to be “part of the system”.

What in the heck are police getting involved with impolite behavior?

I guess this is the natural outcome when society and schools are not allowed to define and enforce proper social behavior… the only tool left are the criminal courts and police.

If we believe in chivalry and paternalism, then the school (not police) should have scolded the boys telling them that is not civilized behavior. Males must treat the weaker females with a certain level of deference and respect (earned or unearned).

If we do not believe in chivalry and paternalism, then the school and police should have stayed out of the matter. It’s a males body and he should be able to do what feels good and is fun… as long as there is no material physical injury to the female.

HOW MANY GIRLS HAVE GONE TO JAIL ?
Any one that has raised boys knows a 4yr old,of
either sex, that needs a hug,is looking for comfort & security.
We raised 3 boys (2 are grandparent now)the most
troublesome problems they all encountered, from
the 6th to the 9th grade was,"those dumb girls
won't leave me alone"and I can't hit them back.

I guess they all grew up to be teachers

gwallan writes:
I would contend that if the repeated strip searching the boys claim did indeed occur those responsible have committed a real sexual abuse.

Absolutely! The ONLY sexual abuse was that committed by the authorities! Someone needs to check out Officer Roach's computer hard drive for child porn!

Yes, he was a Democrat
I was stunned by this Waco story and the first thing I thought was that the District Attorney must have been a Democrat. Well, it took some research but it turns out that the DA in the Waco case is John Segrest, DA of McLennan County, and is a registered DEMOCRAT. Figures! He ran unopposed in the recent election. Hopefully, he will have some stiff opposition in the next election.

Well, now
On the subject of sexual harrassment,

The Feds say " repeated , UNWELCOME actions", but a third party can also file a claim in the workplace.

The real sex offenders are the officials
What John hasn't mentioned is that the girls were playing "slap butt" as well. Only boys were arrested and charged.

I would contend that if the repeated strip searching the boys claim did indeed occur those responsible have committed a real sexual abuse.

i agree that parents need to take resposablity for there children but by your logic kids could get in trouble for playing tag (which has been banned in some schools now anyway). And we also dont know the situation with the 4 year old that moveing his face may have been to get it out of the aids chest. Think about it the kid was 4 YEARS OLD he probably didnt even understand what he was doing.

bintexas and others
This should make the blood of all citizens of this republic turn to ice. The same kind of hysterical hypersensitivity is what is in store for all of us as the liberals gain more and more power.

Remember when we first read 1984? Some of the scenarios were so absurd they were funny. But it's not too funny when it is your four year old charged with a crime. Who would ever have thought that anything so ridiculous could gain acceptance?

We will see more and more of this with Universal Health Care etc.,etc. By the time the fools who vote for these liberal nutcases figure out what's going on and become victims themselves, it will be too late.

Savages and Murderers
And those who would feed the ovens. The same mentality behind these zero tolerence policies, the same idiot governement types where the ones sunning death camps in the 30s, in Germany, and the gulags in the workers pardies

I am talking about the Cops and School admins, And those who would feed the ovens. The same mentality behind these zero tolerance policies, was displayed by the same idiot government types that where the ones running death camps in the 30s, in Germany, and the gulags in the workers paradise I am talking about the Cops and School admins, and all of those involved in these various types of zero tolerance night mares. They should be ashamed.

There has to be a special place in hell for the prosecutors who support this stuff.

I recall the story of the teenage boy charged with bringing a weapon to school, and expelled. A brilliant school admin type saw a bread knife in his truck and called the police...It was there from helping someone move over the weekend... a baseball bat would be ok, Hockey stick no problem, tool chest with saws, hammers, ok, a tire iron that is in every car in the USA...A-ok An unsharpened flat bread knife...call the police..

If you send your kind to Public school it is child abuse.

How depressing
that we've created a social climate in which nearly every formative social interaction is policed for potential victim-hood, while petty bureaucrats enforce draconian policies in order to find worth and meaning...

I can remember (way back when) being 10 or so and playing "kissing tag"-- boys would chase girls (and vice versa) and you had to kiss whoever tagged you (all rather chaste, of course). I suppose we'd all be hauled down to the clink nowadays. In my own formative experiences, this kind of activity was a far cry from the boy who'd put his hand on my chair just as I sat down and who I had to fight off after-school one day (amazing how effective an ice-skate can be in those situations-- my father DID teach me to "kick 'em where it counts").

I think Jenners is onto something with regards to the insanity generated by "zero-tolerance."

District Attorneys
" The district attorney says she'd do it again because she did nothing wrong." Can't we get rid of all of them and start over with a new procedure, such as you must have proof or a judge will disapprove the case within 5 days of the event? Just another wannabe Nifong loser. When those losers start having to pay for the costs, some of that silliness will cease.

Home schooling our children required a lot of sacrifices, inconvenience, hard work and fun, but it was all worth it.

I commend you both for your activism. It is rare today.

Bob_C
Yep. Home schooling was not always much of an option though. It took educating, lobbying, raising awareness, and some soapboxing. I hate the constant fussing too, but without putting up a fuss, it's rare that any critical mass is achieved to make any change, or to resist "progressive change."
We home schooled too, but the hard plowing was done in our school district by a very tenacious mom.

bintexas
Oh yeah, I see it too. And if we both see it, then I'm sure others see it as well. It's the same with judges who are extremely lenient in sentencing pedophiles. There must be an underlying motive. I used to smoke pot. I don't anymore, but I've never seen anything wrong with moderate use by responsible adults. Hence, if I were a judge and someone came before me for simple possession of pot, I'd go easy on them. Stands to reason that pedophilia inclined judges would do the same.

Foxfire22 says:
"You allow children to be exposed to violent movies, and videos, explicit sexual content, and encourage these experiences in society, and then gasp when you see the results."

That's the part that's most aggravating! I remember a few months ago when this one school seemed to have an epidemic of kids having sex in the classroom and the principal was quoted as saying "We have no idea why this is happening".

The only thing we'll have left to gloat over in a few years is the "We told you so" rights, but that will be a hollow victory, indeed.

Post 2
More money is not the answer. I love these wonderful people that start under funded schools in the inner city, with little more than 4 wall and barely heat, they teach some times without books but they learn and can run circles around public school educated kids, most of them graduate college at a rate that is astoundingly better than PS kids. What does it take, a piece of slate and chalk and most importantly a teacher that cares more about teaching the kids than what union benefits and tenure they can obtain. Our school systems are quite fixable, what we need is people to take charge locally and take back the schools, go to the school board meeting if that isn’t enough run for school board. When you don’t like a FED program campaign to tell the fed to keep their money, we would rather do it right. We have some state mandates here, many of the school systems would rather give up the state subsidy than implement the mandates, I say to them, good job keep up the good work, these are the kind of schools that will produce the leader of tomorrow, while most will create bigger welfare lines.

BTW, good job John, most TV is Drek, but you have quality, a rare attribute now a days in the media.

These kids can't win
Sad is the only way to describe our present Public School systems, we have slipped from 1st in the world to 25th. The police, they are use to dealing with seedy people so there vision is blurred, there is procedure and they follow it, which in most cases is exactly right. Having said that you would think there would be some kind of humanity shown to a 12 year old. Let us say these kids were bad seeds, instead of treating them like hardened criminals it would have been a perfect chance to talk with them and just maybe make a difference. Police just don't get enough training, which I am sure is a funding issue for our localities, if I might say here if we didn't give it all to the FEDs to waste maybe we could have better trained police.

Here in Maine we had a very recent incident were an ill trained police officer shot and killed a young person. The details would take a long time to get into, but if he had proper training that would have never happened.

We need to get the FED out of our educational system, and in some cases even the State. But for the moment, if I didn’t have the funds to send my child to a good private school, I would home school them. These public schools are so bad and they get it from both sides, mandatory sex education and busy body teachers that can’t let the kids play and do what kids do, act stupid, especially young boys. I can usually tell with a minute or two if a child was home schooled. I have never been wrong, they are more grounded, more confident , more knowledgeable and yes more patriotic than public school kids, and it shows in a minute.

As usual I can't stay under 2000 chars, post 2 to follow.

What are you crying about?
Brother, you asked for it!

I have no sympathy for any of you clowns. You whine and snivel about the idiots in the public school system, but don't do a damned thing about it. Hell no, you just climb onto your virtual soapbox here on TH and cry into your Cheerios.

All across this country, the same people are perpetually voted into the same offices, or the next tier up, year after year, in local, state and federal offices. Why? Because their hair is well coiffed, their teeth are white AND THEY NEVER, EVER TELL THE TRUTH or take a solid stand on anything.

Americans are hopelessly ignorant of history, of current events, of their own government, of the records of the people who dictate to them how they will conduct their lives and above all what's being taught to (or more accurately, indoctrinated into) your own children in the public school system by drooling morons calling themselves teachers. People who can't even pass their own tests.

You've let the government intrude into every aspect of your life - controlling what you can do, what you can eat, what your children are taught, how you are to raise and discipline your children - and the ever growing list goes on.

Don't talk about it. Do as I did. Yank your kids out of public schools and home school them.

Great article.
Some radical feminists are quick to equate ANY interaction between male and female as ipso facto rape. Traditional child-like activities on the schoolyard now are viewed as "sexual exploitation" or worse by these fanatics.

Regrettably, some on the right are also quick to twist innocent behavior into some sordid sexual activity, especially those who have appointed themselves "cultural warriors", protecting us from the corruption and degradation of our culture.

They frequently look for any excuse to make the charge that some child is being sexually abused.

Some years back, persons in charge of day-care centers were victims of fanatical prosecutions(and persecutions)by state attorneys for the alleged crime of sexual abuse of the children in their trust.

I am specifically referring to the McMartin case.

There are indeed cases of sexual abuse of children, but we must be extremely careful in proceeding with charges against people simply on the basis of socalled "testimony" by alleged child victims, and socalled "testimony" of child psychologist "professionals" who have a vested interest in furthering their careers even if ;it means destroying the lives and reputations of those who were wrongly accused.

Even if you manage to be exonerated of the charge of sexual predation upon a child, that stigma is with you for life.

Standards and Parenting
Parents. It is the PARENTS, stupid!

Teach your children to KEEP THEIR HANDS OFF OTHER PEOPLE, DAMMIT! Daddy had three rules for us: sit down; shut up; hands off. Teach your children these three rules and you can take them anywhere.

Children are not in school to slap butts. They are there to learn to read, write, figure, speak coherent standard English, reason, debate and place themselves in history and in the world. If they came to school ALREADY possessed of the ability to focus their minds on their mission and keep their hands to themselves, these stupid situations would not arise.

As for the little boy rubbing his face on the chest of the teacher, this is not the way little boys hug teachers. This little boy will be rubbing his face on other women before he is 12 (and by the name, he is certainly Black) if he is not taught that hugging is done with the arms, and to turn his head sideways and keep it still.

IT IS ABOUT PARENTING, PEOPLE!

Outrageous, Unacceptable and Intolerable
The entire ADULT community that perpetrated and supported this atrocity against these kids - the teachers, the cops, the DA, the Jailers are nothing more than thugs and criminals. This makes the DUKE University tragedy pale in comparison. I am outraged and angry that such a thing could have even been thought of let alone actually happen. I would have expected such action to have taken place in third world dictatorship, or in Nazi Germany but not in the United States of America!

This POLITICAL CORRECTNESS, BS has gone on too long. Its time for the sane people to take back the world and get it back to a more even keel! I for one will NO LONGER accept and actively oppose PC when and where ever I find it! Enough is enough. Who in he** do these PC people think they are. By what authority can they impose their twisted thinking and perverted ideas on us? Why have we allowed this sort of crap to go on? Where have the good men and women gone? When are we going to demand an end to it all?

Kids being monsters
I never understood those bully type kids in school who felt it necessary to violate others with their relentless touch games. Whether it was snapping girls bras or giving other guys a good old dig by palming their hands and giving you a good smack on the crack or your bun. I don't care how many times they were warned about their behaviour they just couldn't help themselves. Is it sexual harrasment needing felony charges, probaly not the first time but if it persists then a strong message needs to be sent and parents need to deal with their out of control children.....

Zero Tolerance (ZT)
There is a name for these stupid policies in schools and elsewhere: Zero Tolerance.

For truly infuriating accounts of ZT, see
http://www.thisistrue.com

And for true reports of outrageous lawsuits:
http://www.StellaAwards.com

As for pedophilia and sexualizing
children, What do you call it when schools INSIST they can take a girl to an abortion clinic? Or hand out condoms and birth control WITHOUT parental consent or knowledge? Drudge has something on his website right now:

http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=140910&ac=PH nws

about contraceptives for 11 year olds - NO parental notification.

Some of the girls having abortions are 10! They did NOT get that way with help from a 10 year old boy!

That female district attorney....
....I'm thunderstruck. Probably well-educated, and a jerk, joining the list of adult jerks responsible for traumatizing these children.
Do you suppose she's a parent herself? Doubt it.

Standards and stupidity
The actions of the kids is largely the result of a lack of standards in society where just about anything goes. Parents are confused, kids get away with too much, and then when they act out inappropriately according to some, the stupidity of school administrators runs rampant.

Maybe the admin feels that an announcement to all students that this behavior must stop and a general note home to parents to reinforce it will be met with a lawsuit about "stifling expression" is why the admin does such stupid things. Who knows.

And then there is the prosecutor. What a moron.

In all, it seems that the proper education about appropriate and inappropriate behavior has been passed to the school by the parents and the school is now passing the buck to law enforcement.

Not surprising
Partly this is a result of America's ridiculous love of litigation. Partly this is a result of America seeking to place all functions (including parental ones) in the hands of the government.

But frankly, part is the fact that parents have been abrogating their duties. I am familiar with a number of cases -- one involved one of my daughters -- in which complaints to parents about their sons' unwanted sexual behavior resulted in NO concern or response.
When I was a kid, any boy doing something similar (had we done such garbage at the age of eight or nine) would have resulted in him getting a serious beating about the posterior from his parents. But since so many parents nowadays figure they owe no responsibility toward society to control their own kids, the practice of taking the matter out of parental hands is virtually inevitable.

To satisfy your curiosity, yes I had to threaten the father of that little punk with legal action to compel him to control his boy. I could have told my daughter to kick him in a notably sensitive area, or I could have used 'physical persuasion' to make his dad see the light. However, our geeked-up legal system would then simply have placed any blame on my daughter or me, since the view now is that people aren't ever supposed to handle such things personally, but rather let Big Nanny do it. Another big change from my childhood, unfortunately.

Oops
That should be "felony" charges versus "federal" charges; my bad...

http://klintons.com

The result of good intentions
IMHO sexual harrassment legislation was intended for the workplace. Also, people intuitively know what it is and recognize it when they see it.

There does need to be something on the books to help people when this occurs. But as with most things where government/courts get involved, the original intent and target of the legislation changes radically and we now prosecute and label 4 year olds.

Liberals showed their true colors when clear examples of potential sexual harrassment occurred in the White House during the 1990's and they said nothing other than to demonize the women involved. From that point on they lost all credibility on the issue.

You can thank the lawyers for this.
Unfortunately due to lawyers suing over stuff like this and winning millions of dollars, the schools cannot afford to handle things in house in case some lawyer sues them for being negligent.

Cure is Worse Than the Disease
What is wrong with these people? Laying federal charges on children who are merely being children! How and when did children playing harmless games or discovering their sexuality become a crime? The real criminals are the adults who think along these lines and are entrusted with our children!

Apparently, it’s ok for children to witness the bizarre, lustful, and immoral antics that are displayed along Folsom Street during the annual fair. But, when a 4-year-old child innocently hugs a school aid it’s a crime?!

Society has reached the edge of sanity; perhaps has already crossed the line!

sorry for double post
puter messed up as always

Children
This sexualizing of children is purposeful and leading to the eventual normalization of pedophilia.

Look at the taboos that have already fallen: the inocuous ones like divorce and single motherhood. The more controversial of homosexuality, transgenderism, transvesitism, all sorts of isms. I seriously belive that in that trend will be sex with animals and multipartner marriage.

Pedophilia is on its way as soon as society accepts childrem as little adults able to make their own decisions regarding sexual behavior. Mark my words, it is a disgusting, unthinkable thing but it is definitely coming.

What do ya'll think?

It's Time To Retire The Public School.
I still believe that the public school system needs to be dismantled.

What’s going on in our society is the result of a break down in family values created by a liberal humanist ideology, which is the core of the public school systems mentality.

You allow children to be exposed to violent movies, and videos, explicit sexual content, and encourage these experiences in society, and then gasp when you see the results.

The public school system has out lived its usefulness and needs to be replaced.

The things that are going on just didn’t exist before political correctness came into existence.

It’s time to insist on school vouchers so that parents can educate there children the way they choose, whether home school, private, parochial, or Christian.

The state has over stepped its bounds, and is becoming more and more like a police state.
They try to tell us that they have our children’s welfare at heart and do stuff like this.

I Have to Wonder --
I wonder if someone is going to show up sooner or later and speculate that these kids must have been black, thus proving how horribly racist Americans are.

Naaah, couldn't be. Jesse Jackson et al is nowhere to be found.

>;)

HOW can it be sexual harassment
if the GIRL (on the receiving end) does not complain? WHY do all these busybodies stick their noses where they don't belong?
My grandson was charged with 'sexual harassment' once. He was shown a dirty picture by another boy. He did NOT possess the picture. Did not show it to anyone else. But some lady teacher saw it (probably over his shoulder) and only knew my grandson. NOT the boy who had the picture. So, he was charged - probably to get to the other boy.
By the way, my grandson said that it was a female nude and it was for art class.
But the whole thing is absurd. Either drop completely 'sexual harassment' or tighten exactly WHAT it is and is not.
If your boss smacks you on the butt - THAT'S sexual harassment. (To me, you also have to have TOLD HIM YOU DON'T WANT THAT kind of attention. It can not be "HARASSMENT" if it happens only ONCE and/or there is no warning.)
