Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"Not a shred of truth to it."

Or so a senior White House official tells this columnist, referring to reports that President Obama and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s relationship is "strained" because of the latter's indiscipline and frequent gaffes.

The official took particular issue with media reports surrounding Newsweek journalist Richard Wolffe's new book, "Renegade: The Making of a President," including that Mr. Obama has become "distracted" by Mr. Biden's gaffes to the extent that he has rebuked him.

The official insisted that at the end of the day Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden are "arm in arm, laughing with each other."

PAY TO READ?

It's not the best of times for the nation's newspapers, especially the once-profitable New York Times, its parent company posting a $335,000 loss in the first quarter of 2009.

All the more reason for the Atlantic to rush forward with news of an unpublicized meeting in Chicago on Thursday of the Newspaper Association of America, attended by Michael Golden, vice chairman of the New York Times Co.

Mr. Golden now assures Editor & Publisher that there was nothing secretive about the meeting, pointing out: "If it were secret, there wouldn't have been a sign on the door saying 'NAA meeting.' "

Asked about the specifics of the gathering, which had been planned for several weeks and reportedly included the pros and cons of charging for Web content, Mr. Golden would only say "there were a lot of people there facing a lot of similar issues to the ones we are facing."

ENDLESS GROWTH

Letter sent by Richard C. Thiel, chairman of the Wolf Den Architectural Control Committee in Vienna, Va.:

"To whom it may concern: a U.S. congressman, Alan Grayson, owns property in Wolf Den, a part of Wolf Trap Woods Homes Association ... The height of his lawn currently ranges from 18 inches to 36 inches. The home also receives little to no exterior maintenance. A complaint form regarding the height of the lawn has already been forwarded to Fairfax County officials. Anything you can do to encourage this newly elected congressman from the 8th congressional district (Florida) to maintain his property to even minimum standards would be greatly appreciated by his discouraged neighbors."

Attempts to reach Mr. Grayson over the weekend were unsuccessful. However, Inside the Beltway touched base Sunday with Mr. Thiel, who said one of the congressman's fellow neighbors stepped in late Saturday afternoon to cut the lawmaker's lawn.

"The neighbor saw the sticker left by the Fairfax County zoning enforcement," Mr. Thiel said. "He went over and took the sticker off and communicated with the owner somehow."

Mr. Grayson "grew up in the tenements of the Bronx" and "cleaned toilets and worked as a night watchman" to put himself through Harvard (and later Harvard Law School), graduating in the top 2 percent of his class, his congressional bio states.

After first practicing law, he launched and became president of the IDT Corp., a telecom/Internet company that grew into a $2 billion-a-year business. He and his wife later moved to Orlando, where they are no doubt also busy raising five children , all younger than 15: Skye, Star, Sage, Storm and Stone, the latter pair twins born in 2005.

GO FIGURE

If the political party with the most money in its campaign war chest had dominated in November's elections, then Republicans would be in control of Congress and John McCain would be sitting in the Oval Office.

Nationally, according to the Federal Election Commission, the Republican Party raised $30 million more than Democrats during the 2007-2008 election cycle - $793 million and $762 million, respectively. But the amount raised by Democrats was a 58 percent increase over the 2006 cycle, while Republican receipts grew 32 percent.

The Republican National Committee spent far more in independent expenditures than the Democratic National Committee in opposing the other party's presidential candidate. The DNC spent just more than $1 million opposing Mr. McCain, whereas the RNC spent almost $54 million opposing Democrat Barack Obama.

I like JOE
He speaks what's on his mind, not what's filtered thru his staff and presented on teleprompters. Biden is Biden, and I much prefer him to the carefully handled, coached, and filtered BHO. He has tons of experience, he's bright, and he's not into P.C. He's not an empty suit. He's a real person speaking like a real person, not a front man.

P.S. to I Like JOE
I voted for Sen. McCain who would have made an OUTSTANDING president...however, I USED to be a Dem, until the recent mental breakdown of the party. And as such, I would have voted for Joe. But now I see I'm better off as an Indie, cause I vote for the person, not the party anyhow. And the Dems have shot themselves in the foot, and from the size of the damage, I'd say they used
the very assault weapons they're trying to outlaw.

Joe saves Obama
I believe there is an organized effort to keep biden out making gaffes to protect Obama. This will be a way to save President Obama as his ratings hit the toilet were they are now on a fast track to. Biden is the perfect comic relief from the debt the administration is amassing and the perfect distraction. The Obamanation knows Biden have enough defenders to stuff the health care terrorism through congress prior to the president disapproval ratings hitting over fifty percent.

Dear Patrick
I agree with you. It's all a concerted effort to get our mind off the b.s. that's going on. They're convinced the American voter is stupid. but then, after the Nov. results, they may be right, at least half the time! I don't like being manipulated, but that's what's going on, 24/7. And master manipulators are in the WH at the moment.

Obama is more stupid than Biden!
People keep referencing Biden as an idiot, and he is one for sure. However Obama is LOTS worse. Check out this blogger's take...http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2009/05/obamas-cyber-security-farce.html

Reflects Obama's Judgement
Why pick a guy you can't stand to be around much less work with. Biden's resume is far more impressive than Palin's - yet she more than held her own in the debate.

Seems like a match made in DC
Two arrogant bigots ought to get along just fine in between the who is better smart aleck remarks.

King B'rock the fffffffirst

biden is a jester at the kings court. king b'rock the first lets jester biden dangle while the king travels in very high style letting the American citizen know that he is the king.king b'rock the first is in favor of the people lowering their standards while he the king expands his life style.
Will king b'rock activate the Roman games to distract the citizens ? Build little cars and watch the highway slaughter ? Take over corporations and slaughter those with non-governmental jobs ? Fly planes over NY and enjoy the fear and panic caused by such action ?

On Biden
Hold on to your hats kiddies, 'cus you ain't seen nothin' yet!

I've followed Biden for over 36 years, beggining as a 12-year old tagging along with my older sister on his very first Senatorial campaign.

He was a coniving yet idiotic weasel then (as now) and is the 'poster child' for 'Identity Politics'.

He got elected after the tragic death of his wife and daughter while they were returning from purchasing the family Christmas tree (although Joe himself was not present), where his two sons were also badly injured.

That narrative has taken him all the way to Blair House despite one gaffe after another.

His capacity to stick his foot in his mouth is unparalleled in the annals of American politics.

Whatever you've experienced so far is nothing more than the tip of the iceberg, I promise you.

His ability to say the wrong thing at the wrong time will one day make some young documentary film maker a rich man...and that's just the material that's on videotape.

Will the next Ken Burns please step up!

"uncle joe biden . . .
reminds me of a "uncle" who (consistently) arrives late to family events "half in the bag" (drunk), says inappropriate things to the nephews and fondles the (young) nieces. :)
Who knows, he could be tne next up and coming comedian when his present "gig" is finished.

The "pollsters" . . .
that give obama the "messiah" such high ratings are part of the same "main stream media" that could find no wrong with him and "uncle joe".
Their "polling numbers" should be taken with many grains of salt.
For once, I would like to see the polling organizations provide the questions that were asked of the polling sample population.
A good example of polling fraud is the numbers that some of them get to support "gun control". Some of the polling organizations will ask a question like "do you support measures to cut down on "gun violence"? in an attempt to justify their bias towards "gun control".
TRUST NONE OF THEM.

Joe Biden
During World War 2 a phrase often used was "Loose lips sink ships." A new one could become "Loose lips sink Veeps." A book could be written about his gaffes. I wonder how many more there are which the Obama press has not released. This guy is a buffoon. His security clearance should be revoked before he says something really dangerous instead of just stupid.Wonder where he will hide in case of an emergency now that he has revealed the location of the VP bunker in the residence in which he now abides.

White House Official is correct.

I believe the White House Official is correct.

There probably is no friction between Obama and Biden over gaffs.

However what he would leave out is the friction caused by two egos big enough to apply for Statehood in the same room at the same time.

I suspect Obama is so arrogant and thinks hes just so smart, so wonderful and so right all the time that he can't possibly make a mistake.

I also suspect Biden is so arrogant that he believes he is more qualified to be President than Obama which he is. Biden is politically savey enough to understand that the only reason Obama got elected is because the news media gave him a pass, A.C.O.R.N. registered thousands of illegal voters and contributed to voter fraud, Blacks will vote for any idiot as long as their face is black enough, and many Liberal white voters suffer from self imposed guilt and will vote for a minority to make themselves "feel better".

KAREN - AGREED, I LIKE BIDEN TOO

Joe Biden is the only resfreshing thing about the Obama Administration. We get a few laughs out of what he says. I get scared every time Obama opens his mouth and don't believe half of what he says.

but, Biden's gaffes are entertaining.

teleprompters
Why don't they just hook him up with a couple of teleprompters every time he is going to open his mouth, just like his boss?
