Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

At 4:07 p.m. Tuesday, the front page of the Democratic National Committee website flashed the headline: "Welcoming Sen. Specter to the Democratic Party."

"Earlier today, Senator Arlen Specter left the Republican Party and he is now a Democrat," the DNC announced. "Help us welcome Sen. Specter. Post a comment."

Twenty-four hours later, not a single visitor to the widely-visited DNC site saw fit to comment.

SO THAT'S IT

"The president approached me when he was Senator Obama, before the Democratic primary. And he said, 'Tell me, Arlen, if a Jewish kid from Kansas can carry Pennsylvania, how can a black kid from Kansas carry Pennsylvania?' And I gave him some advice, and he became, he became president of the United States of America."

SPARE A DIME?

The May 2009 Harper's Index, not surprisingly, reflects heavily on the economic downturn in this country, including this pair of eye-openers:

Percentage of all U.S. men over twenty who are now unemployed or not seeking work: 31

Estimated percentage of Bush administration political appointees who are currently unemployed: 70

NO HABLA INGLES

It will be revealed at the National Press Club on Thursday to what extent the lack of English proficiency is hurting the United States (actually, we'll go ahead and disclose an estimated $65 billion in annual lost wages due to poor English speaking skills in America).

Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, and event host ProEnglish will discuss a new Lexington Institute study on the value of English proficiency. The congressman will also provide an update on efforts to make English the official language of the federal government.

HABLA ESPANOL

It's doubtful English will ever become the official language of the United States, given the Obama White House has already set out to speak in another tongue.

In fact, the Obama team on Wednesday saw fit to excerpt leading Spanish-language media coverage of President Obama's first 100 days in office, including an accolade that the White House two weeks ago, for the first time ever, carried out a bilingual press conference in English and Spanish.

Otherwise, Spanish-language media applauded Mr. Obama for his "intense" outreach to Hispanics, who for the first time represent nearly 10 percent of presidential appointments that require Senate confirmation. This compares to 5 percent under President George W. Bush and 4 percent under President Bill Clinton during the same time period.

Mr. Obama so far has 26 Hispanics - Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Colombians and Cubans among them - working at the White House in a variety of senior-level posts. Hispanics make up 14 percent of the U.S. population.

WHO'S THE DADDY?

Hopefully there won't be any shouting, spitting and shoving between agitated guests when TV talk show host Maury Povich returns to his hometown of Washington to take on teen pregnancy.

Actually, Mr. Povich will lead a candid conversation (not affiliated with his show) on teenage pregnancy at the National Press Club on May 5, the eve of the 8th annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

Among other panelists: Ann Shoket, editor in chief of Seventeen Magazine, and teen actress Kristen Alderson of ABC's "One Life to Live."

Thanks, John, for the Specter quote
So Specter lays claim to some credit for BO's White House win...jeesh! Have heard an appalling accumulation of anecdotes recently about Specter (but hadn't heard this one) - how in heck do Pennsylvanians keep re-electing his ilk? Between him and Murtha, they are gluttons for abuse and/or are truly ZOMBIES! I pray their eyes and ears be OPENED!!!

The Sign should have Read:
"WELCOME HOME ARLEN." One thing we Constitutionalist had to face was a couple of CINOs (Constitutionalist In Name Only)left and went back to the Republicans because they couldn't get elected after the last election. South Carolinians like most voters think that unless you are a Republican you can't get elected. I'm old enough to remember when if you weren't a Democrat, you couldn't get elected! I deliberately block voted for years just to get the good ole' Democratic boys out . Now we have the good ole Republican boys. I gave up on 'em and went to the Constitution Party. What the Heck!

Take the rest of the RINO's with you.
Like those 8 that voted for Porkulus.

A thorn is a thorn is a thorn
no matter what. Time may demonstrate deomocrat enthusiasm may fade.

Defector Specter
An unprincipled man returns to his roots to join other unprincipled men. It's his first venture into honesty since the 60s. Democrats, watch your backs. When the honeymoon is over, he won't treat you any better than he treated us when it comes down to what is more beneficial to him.

Welcome Specter?
I think the headline of this article should be Thank Goodness He's Gone! Specter has been a thorn in the side of the republican party for years. Between him and McCain they have destroyed the fabric of the GOP. We real conservatives are not moderates and we do not believe that we should emulate the liberals or their beliefs. Olympia Snowe and others have always been RINOs who have been able to speak with flattering lips and a double heart when it comes to garnering votes. They are like bitter gall poured into fresh water and serve only one purpose...to spoil the broth.

If we were more like the Democrats and allowed absolutely no dissenting votes, would that help the Republican cause? I doubt it. In actuality, the Republican party is the party of diversity as opposed to the Democrats who allow no deviation from the party line. If you doubt that look at Specter, McLain, Snow, and others. How many Democrat "mavericks" in your so-called diversity party do you have....NONE! So don't pretend that you are something you aren't! All you have done is welcome back one of your own. Nothing to crow about.
