Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Why all the fuss over President Obama's first 100 days in office, a milestone to be marked Wednesday?

Consider there are 1,360 days left in his presidential term - 2,820 "Obama days" remain should he get elected to a second term - which is certainly more than enough time to accomplish all this "change."

Bottom line: Mr. Obama has been busy emulating President Franklin D. Roosevelt's first 100 days in office, which historians all agree built the foundation for FDR's legacy. Like Mr. Obama, Roosevelt was confronted with the most severely depressed economy of his lifetime, a crumbled stock market and increasing unemployment.

Thus, like Roosevelt, Mr. Obama has in just three months' time set out to reform banking and industry, through the use of the budget, the tax code and the federal regulatory apparatus.

If Mr. Obama's drastic measures and policies prove successful, as did those implemented by the nation's 32nd president, the economy will rebound. The president's supporters insist they see light at the end of the tunnel, but conservatives and even socialists warn that his economic policies already show signs of failure. Stay tuned.

ABE SAID IT

Speaking of President Obama's unprecedented spending habits, Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah has just introduced the Limitation on Government Spending Act of 2009, which - as the name suggests - would cap the amount of government spending in relation to the nation's gross domestic product.

All told, the Republican's bill would limit federal spending to 20 percent of GDP.

In the meantime, the senator remains fearful that the Democratic president will continue to spend while "disregarding the future consequences." That said, he sees fit to quote Mr. Obama's political idol, Abraham Lincoln, who said, "You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn."

ZEN SPOT

It's no secret that Abraham Lincoln was President Obama's favorite president. Mr. Obama has said as much numerous times.

It so happens that in the not-so-distant days when he was a freshman senator from Illinois and the going would get tough on Capitol Hill, Mr. Obama would sneak away from the U.S. Capitol, make his way to the other end of the Mall, and find a much needed reprieve sitting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial - remembering "all the hard times that this country has gone through," he recalled recently.

A few weeks ago, you'll recall, Mr. Obama took his family to see Lincoln's memorial. Given the nation's difficult times, it will be interesting to see when he next returns.

BANK AND BEER $

The money chase by political action committees continued its upward climb in 2007-2008, raising $1.2 billion, according to new figures from the Federal Election Commission.

That said, Inside the Beltway has obtained a pair of Top 10 lists identifying the country's leading PACs during the last election cycle, starting with "receipts." The wealthiest on the list is ActBlue, the nation's largest source of funds for Democrats; followed by MoveOn.org; the Service Employees International Union Committee on Political Education; the pro-choice group Emily's List; the Fred Thompson PAC, the actor and former Tennessee Republican senator's PAC is valued at more than $24.5 million; the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees; the National Rifle Association of America Victory Fund; the National Association of Realtors PAC; the International Brotherhood of Teamsters' Democrat Republican Independent Voter Education; and finally, the Service Employees International Union.

Meanwhile, PAC contributions to federal candidates during the last election cycle totaled $412.8 million, up 11 percent from 2005-2006. The No. 1 PAC on the list by "contributions to candidates" is the National Association of Realtors, followed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AT&T, the National Beer Wholesalers, the National Automotive Dealers Association, the American Bankers Association, the International Association of Firefighters, the American Association for Justice, Honeywell International and finally, the National Association of Home Builders.

SPOOKED SPOOKS

An Orlando Sentinel cartoon published on the op-ed page of The Washington Times was attracting plenty of attention at CIA headquarters Monday, Inside the Beltway was told by a high-ranking official at the spy agency.

In the cartoon, President Obama, clutching a sheaf of papers that say "Torture Memos Public," tells a CIA officer donning a trenchcoat, "I've decided not to prosecute you for helping to keep us safe since 9/11."

The CIA officer did not appear to be amused ... or reassured.

The only reason Yobama likes Lincoln
is they way he was able to use the crisis of a Civil War to circumvent the Constitution. What sort of crisis did Yobama come up with? Why a government created recession, that's what. This man is evil and is a marxist of the first order. Not only that...he is a puppet, an empty suit, and stupid beyond belief. Doubt me? Then explain why a low flyover of a 747 accompanied by a couple of F-16's over ground zero during work hours would be a really good thing to do? Then explain why the president (YET AGAIN) didn't know a damn thing about it and only learned about when the news broke the story? Wink, wink, yuck, yuck. You couldn't make another Beverly Hillbilly movie with a better character than Jethro being portrayed by Obama. What kind of stupid bone-headed thing was that stunt? Oh, believe me, his handlers had a reason to do it. And also believe me, his next 100 days will not only be filled with deliberate chaos, it will get even more evil than you can imagine. If it isn't clear that no one is really in charge, the next 100 days will make it quite evident.

BTW I've changed my handle from Gunny
to GunnyCee to avoid being confused with GunnyG who I have a great respect for.

A Fast 100 Days?
Or are we the people just too slow?

We have to start holding these people accountable already. Do something, be faster:

If you think that Facism is good...
I'd give Obamanation an A+ in government takeover of banks and at least one auto manufacturing company (GM) from now on to be known as Government Motors. To those who like what Hitler did to Germany in the 1930's then Obama had a great first 100 days. And to think that Obama didn't even know anything about anything that was going on. It's like everything that happened, he only found out about it when the news broke!! Cheez, what a joke this whole administration is.

this is too funny.
cuba has banned travel with mexico. the usa continues to welcome any illegal able to cross the border. but that makes sense. cuba is ruled by a communist. the usa is ruled by an islamic communist. good job, majority voters. you could have voted for stupid, but you rejected just stupid, and voted for evil. enjoy.

McCaslin
You're embarassing

100 days
100 days of tyranny. Boy, does time fly when the federal government is robbing you blind and insulting your intelligence or what ?

talent scout
As usual your statements make absolutely no sense whatsoever. But what would anyone expect.

Showing he does not have a clue of what he is talking about.

Roosevelt's policies prolonged the depression and its inexcusable for any republican or conservative to not know this.
As McCaslin shows he does not and is an embarrassment.
Makes lots of sense if you understood the facts

Roosevelt, Obama, & Lincoln
Obama, like Roosevelt, is exploiting a government-induced economic crisis to increase government control of the economy and what should be the private lives of citizens. By the time he is finished, I suspect I will need government permission to buy a new car, lawnmower, etc.

As for Mr. Lincoln, I'll give him credit for good intentions, but I keep in mind what paves the road to Hades. He upset the federal balance between states and the federal government and we have continued on the downward path ever since. I am pleased to see that some governors have grown spines and are refusing parts of the so-called stimulus program. It remains to be seen whether the citizens of those states will have equal spine.

Obama, at bottom, is an authoritarian do-gooder. He firmly believes that the citizens are too stupid to live their lives w/o government guidance and is determined to "educate" us in the proper behaviour and subservience to our betters.

curmudgeon -- totally right!
"good job, majority voters. you could have voted for stupid, but you rejected just stupid, and voted for evil. enjoy."

BARACK OBAMA AND FDR

"Obamanomics is the New Deal without FDR, as Reaganomics was FDR without the New Deal. And the New Deal minus FDR = political disaster."

The Alien in Chief.........
So now, Barry-boy has awarded the UAW (along with the federal govt.) with a huge ownership portion of Chrysler and GM. What of the stockholders of these companies?

Does anyone really consider this? Do we really debate what Hussein wants? Or is it just racial politics 24/7/365 - the first "black" president, yadda, yadda, yadda. Next "universal", nationalized healthcare, even though 86% of the American public already has health insurance. Will there be any debate or just a mad rush, media hyped sprint to pass legislation?

One thing is certain: Hussein is the first, the first anti-American president.

Talent Scout, you beat me to it!
FDR successful??? At what?? Oh yeah, furthering the destruction of the Constitution and the USA. So, in that sense, yes the One has been successful at furthering the destruction of the USA.

John, please take your meds.

A busy 100 days
and now we need to wait for results. No more blaming Bush and no more talking "hope" as a strategy and bashing Limbaugh. Results only will count and if he succeeds, Obama gets all the praise and if he bombs, he will be a one term president.

No, Abe didn't say it
Mr. McCaslin:

Sen. Hatch, and now you, have fallen for one of the many fake Lincoln quotes that infest the web. The line "You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn" is one of the "10 Cannots," a group of conservative-sounding sayings often wrongly attributed to Abe. He never said any of them, or anything like them.

The 10 Cannots actually were the work of an obscure conservative preacher, William J.H. Boetcker, in the early 1900s. The full story of how Abe got credited with/blamed for them is in this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_J._H._Boetcker

It actually isn't that tough to look this stuff up. Both you and Sen. Hatch should have done that first. For that matter, so should have Ronald Reagan, who got it wrong in 1992.
