Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Sen. Judd Gregg, the New Hampshire Republican and ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee who withdrew his name to become commerce secretary, says President Obama in a few short weeks has managed to steer the country "dramatically to the left," and in doing so he has sacrificed the "American dream" for future generations.

First accepting the post of commerce secretary, then suddenly bowing out uncomfortably on Feb. 12 in light of differences with the new administration, Mr. Gregg tells Inside the Beltway: "I'm glad I didn't take the job, although I didn't handle it very well, so really in many ways I feel rather badly about it."

Yet given the president's massive tax-and-spend budget proposals, which the senator warns will "triple" the national debt over the next decade, Mr. Gregg now says for the "first time" in America's history one generation will be passing to the next "less opportunity than we received from our parents" that will "reduce the quality" of our children's lives.

Mr. Obama "thinks governments create prosperity and not individuals," Mr. Gregg says.

The respected GOP senator says he also opposes taxpayer dollars going to the floundering U.S. automakers, adding that structured bankruptcies of the Detroit companies "would be better than what is planned now, to be honest with you."

Now, with Mr. Obama taking the unusual step this week of ousting General Motors Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner, Mr. Gregg reasons: "That's the slope you get on when you start doing industrial policy - when the government starts running a company."

The entire interview with Mr. Gregg can be heard on Inside the Beltway radio at www.washingtontimes.com

SAM'S USED CARS

"By the way, Madam Speaker, if you like the way the federal government runs other government businesses like the post office, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FEMA and the IRS, you will love the new federalized auto industry."

-Rep. Ted Poe, Texas Republican, addressing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the House floor this week

NO FLYING HIGH

As if commercial airliners already don't have enough to worry about - from bankruptcies to rising fuel costs to terrorists trying to blow them out of the once-blue skies - legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate this week to "require air carriers to provide training for flight attendants and gate attendants regarding serving alcohol, recognizing intoxicated passengers and dealing with disruptive passengers."

JIMMY'S PARK

A congressional bill has just been introduced to expand the boundary of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Georgia and redesignate it as the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park.

GELMI'S AMERICA

That was the Epoch Times' national correspondent and Washington playwright Alessandra Gelmi reading from her new collection of selected poems, "Ring of Fire," before an appreciative Georgetown audience - which, honestly, didn't know whether to laugh or cry upon hearing "Television":

I was adopted
and when I turned thirty
began to look for my mother
At forty
after a Promethean search
I found her
invited her over for a pot roast
"That is a very pretty television," she said
eyeing my 25" screen Hitachi
"Would you like it?" I asked
"Yes, I would," she answered
We loaded it into her Pontiac
and I never heard from her again

Without any question UAW was behind
the firing of Mr. Wagner. Our President is tight with the unions after their spectacular help in getting him elected. A special administrative bankruptcy will save the UAW and the funds they hold so dear, again an Obama UAW preservative measure. Comparatively speaking the new CEO is milk toast.

This is a very bad thing that has happened. By what measure do Democrats know how to run the things they despise, business?

Don, you must be right
O would never disappoint the UAW.

If the company had entered bankruptcy when they should have been allowed to do so, they could have shucked the union and be on their way to recovery.

ANOTHER CHANGE
For the next three years Social Security WILL NOT be giving cost of living increases. And this is after seniors who can no longer work to supplement their income have had their savings investments decimated and their 'fixed' savings interest rates are zip.
BUT, our government can give away billions to banks and companies, not knowing or caring where it goes, can pass bills to spend billions on earmarks for things like the endangered marsh mouse and then mandate trillions for programs that will NOT put food on the table.
Well, if UNIONS are going to make the rules and run our Country, then us old foggies need to band together and establish OUR OWN UNION!

I can see it now
"...you will love the new federalized auto industry."

How long before Obama "discovers" within our Constitution a "right" for all Americans to own a new car?

WHOOPI!! New cars for everyone. Don't have the money? That's okay; just line up outside your bank and we'll print you some.

Hey, if the Fed owns it, then the Fed can redistribute it, right?

liberals' stratagem for amnesty

Watch the Chosen One/the Glowbama press for Scamnesty shortly using the hackneyed, disingenuous line, "bringing people out of the shadows," partly under the guise of getting ILLEGALS to help fight drug cartels-- that is like treating the heart patient with an injection of cancer cells so he won't die of heart failure!

As a dedicated soldier in the fight to save America from myopic, beleaguered acceptance of the ILLEGAL invasion, I surely appreciate the frustration of the majority of Americans (70%+) with quisling politicians.

The left KNOWS that ILLEGALS will vote 95% for big entitlement guvment, which explains why the ObaMessiah has stopped construction of the border fence, which was well under way, and working.

HOWEVER, the fight is NOT lost!!!
We stopped Kennedy-McCain Scamnesty, then killed the disingenuous "Dream Act," a liberal gambit to give ILLEGALS a free community college education and thence a path to citizenship, and blue state N.Y. stanched the governor Spitzer's scheme to give ILLEGALS licenses, which 77% of Americans oppose per Rasmussen (because licenses are a step toward voting and scamnesty).

Join the fight, Middle America to save YOUR COUNTRY-- while we still have a little time!!!!!!!!

The BEST group to assist you is Numbers USA... several senators agreed that they were the group most responsible for stanching Kennedy-McCain Scamnesty:

http://www.numbersusa.com/content/

They have targeted e-mails and messages for Congress, OR you can contact Congress directly at the official sites right here:

http://www.congressmerge.com/

BOOKMARK it, and rattle those cages in Congress often! Save YOUR country before it is too late! The left is resurrecting the Dream Act -- we need to kill it AGAIN.

Blue dog Çrats (e.g., Heath Shuler-- who sponsors the desirable SAVE Act) are already starting to resist the ObaMessiah and the hard left-- hope is NOT lost, BUT it WILL require dedication from Middle America!

Good idea, Kelly!!
Maybe the government can just give us a care and tax us for the cost instead of us making payments. Then we can all stop paying taxes... like the Dems!!!
