Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"Has anyone noticed that it's taking the president longer to select the White House dog than to pick his Cabinet?" writes Inside the Beltway reader J. Griffin Crump of Alexandria. "Could it be because he will feel obligated to keep the dog?"

ONE WINNER

The only winner, if indeed there was one to emerge from the Republican Party's 2008 bid for the White House, appears to be "Joe the Plumber."

"That's right, 'Joe The Plumber', 'Joe The War Correspondent', 'Joe The Beltway Reporter', and now 'Joe The Author' is coming to your city for a book signing!" proclaims the publicist of a new book by Joe Wurzelbacher.

Washingtonians can get signed copies at various times and locations (suburbs included) from Feb. 25 to 28, when the campaign sensation will be in town for CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference. Then he's off to Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Arizona and California, before coming back to Washington to be a special guest of honor at the Media Research Center's 2009 gala.

After all, as his fan Sean Hannity of Fox News says, "He is truly a great American."

SHARPTON SLEEPS

"Seats remained unfilled at the main venue even when Rev. Al Sharpton began" his speech, observes Middlebury Campus reporter Jaime Fuller, even after the college "made many preparations providing for an overflowing audience."

Indeed, the liberal arts college in Vermont fed the civil rights activist's remarks into two additional campus auditoriums, but the crowds were a no-show - perhaps in anticipation "that Sharpton's remarks would be inflammatory," the article notes.

"I will not overwhelm you because I understand you have a controversial speaker here tonight," Mr. Sharpton began. "If there are those who disagree with me, or don't like me, I would hope at the end of the night they get a good night's sleep because I assure you, I will."

He went on to say that the election of Barack Obama as the nation's first black president is an invalid reason for a return to complacency.

"Many feel that because we have had a huge historical momentous occasion with the election of Barack Obama, that all of a sudden we no longer need advocacy, and this could not be further from the truth," Mr. Sharpton said. "Fox News ... now announces we are beyond race, when they said we never had a racial problem in the first place. How does my good friend Sean Hannity preach the funeral of a body that he said there never was?"

Mr. Sharpton also expressed distaste for former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, whom he characterized as being "of my color, not of my kind."

'OBAMA IS COMING!'

"Hide your crown jewels, Canada, Obama is coming!"

So reads the Canada Free Press cover story by former Toronto Sun veteran columnist Judi McLeod, who says an international network of environmental groups is horning in on the agenda of President Obama's one-day inaugural trip to Canada on Thursday.

The environmentalists are warning Canadians that Mr. Obama, to satisfy his country's gluttonous energy addiction, is coming after its "resources."

in 2012!

it's damn nice of you Repugs to keep teeing up the ball for us!

Ded
Thanks for the compliment. That's what it is comming from a state that proves the O-man wrong. You can't spend, spend, and spend some more and expect a different outcome than the last time you did it. The state is bankrupt and everyone there that gets an IOU for their tax refunds ought to be able to sue the hierarchy of the state as it's their fault!!!

Ded
I'm surprised that you would even show your posts around here with the way your state has proven the O-man wrong. They proved hands down that you can't spend, spend, and spend some more and expect a different outcome each time. the state is still bankrupt and each one that receives an IOU for a tax refund should be able to sue the state as the people running things have brought it on themselves.

My good man Joe...
The great state of California is in a huge financial mess along with most other states.
The monies long expected from our property taxes have dropped along with our housing values. That along with the farming out of our good jobs to other countries due to de-regulation has also hurt us.
Throw in a very expensive (not to mention useless) war, and yep... were are in a mess.
Our Republican Gov is doing what he can by working with the Dems to try to balance our books. But we have something here that most states do not. We need a "super"majority (2/3rds) to pass a budget. In other words, a few far right wing-nuts can bring the state to a standstill even with the objections of the Gov.
The good news in all of this is that for the first time in a long time, we have a guy in the oval office that has a 3 digit IQ.
Hopefully the "O-man" with the help of those around him will be able to pick up the pcs of the catastrophe that the shrub bequeathed him...

Ded
PULEASE! Do not call AHnold a republican his wifes family would disown her if she married a TRUE republican. Joe Kennedy would roll over in his grave many, many times and the ladies would swoon if it happened. Check how many public employees Kalifornia has. Every one has to be paid by tax money. The state has known that the properties were over valued for a number of years now and that the bottom would some day drop as it couldn't go on forever. Pea poor planning is all it is.

DeD/Rev Al
DeD explain to me how the "war" has had that great an impact on my very favorite state.. If ur new to this thread U may not know that I,m the president of the Golden State Fan Club..
Rev al I would hope that Gen Powell is not too concerned that he doesn't resemble U all that much

Roy
The "war" has not only had a negative financial impact, but also a negative moral impact for the entire country. We wasted the lives of 4000+ very brave Americans and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis (to date). Can you name just one "positive" that has come from this illegal war that justifies these losses?

Ded
ded asks can U name just one positive thing?? Little Joke, my man..maybe keeping ur mind off Ur Great state going down the tubes permanently will be of some benefit to U!!
On the serious side, as a 25+ year Military Vet, during which time I was SEVERELY mistreated by some of Ur Bay-Area Loonies, let me tell U that as a *been there done that* ALL wars are STUPID, if not illegal, but LUCKY for Ur ilk some of us are willing to GO DO IT!!

Ded
Secondly, I'd still like a DEFINITIVE answer as to HOW "the Useless, illegal, war has directly effected California economy?? In my long experience with Military Contractors, hughes Acft, Boeing, Raytheon, etc etc, while not all located entirely in CA. have been good for all concerned.. Obviously U have other ideas.. Have A Good Day!!
