Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Susan Glasser, the former Washington Post assistant managing editor who became executive editor of Foreign Policy magazine, brings readers an eye-opening headline for her debut issue: "The Making of George W. Obama."

Equally intriguing, the article is the first by former State Department "boy-wonder" Christian Brose, newly crowned senior editor at Foreign Policy, who only a few weeks ago was chief speechwriter and policy adviser for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, having previously reported to her predecessor, Colin L. Powell.

(When the just-nominated Miss Rice heard foreign-policy suggestions offered by the normally reserved Mr. Brose, who had shyly raised his hand to speak, she inquired about the identify of "that young red-haired kid." He was 25 years old.)

"One of my regrets about my work at the State Department is that we were unable to convince the American people that [George W.] Bush's pragmatic internationalism had within it the makings of a strong, sustainable global leadership for the 21st century - and that, as such, it had the potential to heal some of the fraught divisions over America's role in the world that have plagued the country since the end of the Cold War," Mr. Brose now writes.

As for President-elect Barack Obama: "The 2008 U.S. election was all about change. But that's not what we're going to get on foreign policy," Foreign Policy recaps. "Instead of a radical departure from Bush, we're likely to end up with a lot more of the same. And that may be just what we need."

SUCCESS, BY GEORGE

Washington's Media Research Center observes that nearly two years after reporters derided President Bush's troop surge as "a folly" and "lost cause," American troop deaths are at their lowest level since the Iraq war began in 2003.

"So right on cue," says the media watchdog, the New York Times reports that "ABC, CBS and NBC have all pulled their full-time reporters from Iraq. According to correspondent Brian Stelter, the lack of violence means the networks are less interested in the Iraq story."

Wrote Mr. Stelter: "Representatives for the networks emphasized that they would continue to cover the war and said the staff adjustments reflected the evolution of the conflict in Iraq from a story primarily about violence to one about reconstruction and politics."

NO 'HO HUM'

"It's one of those things that if you've done it a number of times, it's usually, 'Ho hum.' But this is no ordinary thing. I'm as excited now as I was the first time. I'm sky-high."

So legendary presidential-inaugural parade announcer Charlie Brotman tells Inside the Beltway in advance of announcing his 14th presidential inauguration parade for "my 10th new president - a period of 52 years. It's a good thing I started when I was 3, or I would be old."

Actually, Mr. Brotman was 28 in 1957 when he announced to re-elected President Dwight D. Eisenhower what band was next marching up Pennsylvania Avenue before the presidential reviewing stand - and now marches up before the nation's first black president.

"I think this could be the most meaningful and the most exciting inaugural we've ever had," Mr. Brotman agreed. "It appears to me that from everything I've heard, seen and read, our new leader Barack Obama is creating the America every American wants it to be."

NOTHING MAGIC

The National Black Republican Association is calling on President-elect Barack Obama, on behalf of his fellow black Americans, to demand an apology from the Los Angeles Times and opinion writer David Ehrenstein "for denigrating you as a 'Magic Negro' in an article entitled 'Obama the 'Magic Negro.'"

The article, which appeared in March 2007, was subtitled: "The Illinois senator lends himself to white America's idealized, less-than-real black man."

BARGAIN SHOPPER

Rep. Edward J. Markey, Massachusetts Democrat and chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, pushed a bill last year successfully preventing Uncle Sam from refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve until the cost of oil came down.

That time has now come - for how long, nobody knows - so Mr. Markey in recent days requested the Department of Energy go ahead and purchase about 12 million barrels of crude oil.

Barack Obama
Will the post office issue a Obama stamp even before he become our next President? Find out at, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/2009/01/post-office-to -issue-barack-obama.html

And yet they fail to mention the two main reasons why violence in Iraq is down, we've been paying off Sunni tribes not to fight us and most Sunni's have been driven from Shi'ite neighborhoods, neither of which have anything to do with the increased number of US troops in country.

Boy, its good
to be an American.

"It appears to me that from everything I've heard, seen and read, our new leader Barack Obama is creating the America every American wants it to be."

Strange...
Obama and the Democrats are announcing massive tax cuts...and massive new spending projects.

Weren't these actions soundly denounced when Bush did them?

Blind, or just stupid?
"It appears to me that from everything I've heard, seen and read, our new leader Barack Obama is creating the America every American wants it to be."

Ha! ha! -- That's funny! Yes, we ALL want American politics to be as corrupt as Illinois politics! The scandals mount before he is even sworn in.

Tax Cuts?
When Bush wanted tax cuts, the first words out of the democrats mouths were, "How can we afford tax cuts?". With Congress tossing money around like candy being thrown at a parade, how can we "afford" tax cuts now? We can't "afford" them now any more than we could when Bush wanted to do the same. The only difference is that this is a democrat idea vs. a republican idea, therefore, it's good and will be blessed as being good for the "American People". I'd rather see massive tax cuts than massive give-aways to mismanaged Wallstreet icons and the big 3 automakers. But tax cuts for "The American People" don't put as much money back into campaign coffers as do tax money give-aways to large companies and the rich folks who run them (ie board members, CEO's and other executives). However, as long as democrats and The Obama propose tax cuts for "The American People", it's a good thing. For
Bush to propose it, it was going to break the bank at the federal government. Well, which is it, really?

Obamagate
Obamagate continues to entertain.

Big Bro O won't do anything
new, because he's never done anything.

He hasn't even led a Boy Scout troop.

He voted mostly *presnt* in the IL leg. He spent 143 days in the Sen. before deciding to get out of there and be president. Whadda guy.

Meanwhile, in his 143 days, he managed to create $100 million in earmarks, which is why he isn't shy about offering a $trillion in ^bailout* and $300 billion in tax cuts. The numbers mean nothing to him.

The only good thing is whatever happens now is HIS fault.

The Circus Came To Town
The Three ring circus that is the Clinton / Obama Revue is entertaining the masses. Every day there is a new show. The real fun ones are the clowns, but there are so MANY of them.

Obama's tax cuts
It was announced as tax cuts to get the now gullible repubs to go along with the huge stimulus package he wants passed, then if it doesn't work the way he claimsit will, he can say repubs are also at fault because they also backed the plan. The tax cuts will only be for certain people{some of whom don't even pay any taxes] instead of small businesses and those who actually create economic stimulus by creating new jobs. Also said tax breaks are only temporary.

increased spending and tax cuts
when done by repubs it is the heigth of political irresponsibility. But when done by the dims it is concern over the well being of the country and needed to spur the economy

But the reality seems to be the dims are intent on buying the votes for coming generations of the losers that don't pay the bills but get the govt handouts.

When 100 million, or whatever the number ends up being know they are in essence govt employees with their anuual payments they will only vote to keep the dims in office.

It would appear that the only thing standing in the way of permanent dim majprities in congress and future dim presidents will be a depression so severe that even the dims can't spend their way out by bribing the country.

And So The Story Goes...
I would like to designate Barry O. as pre-elected president, in his own mind. This may contradict his "One President at a Time" mantra he is so eager to espouse. He may tell others this mantra, but inside he revels in "I am a President", which is no surprise to me. It wears as a rookie would on the firs day of school. Don't you remember those days when you made those social stumbles in going into a new environment. The similarities are there. Even the accompaniments to his mantra, Hope,Change, and boldness reeks of puerile juvenile that i remember of myself in those times. Just recently B. Obama is holding the mantle of amateur politician.

Renny
Obama will never be held responsible for any mistakes he makes as president. The MSM, also known as the DNC has already started managing expectations by talking about the "mess Bush is leaving behind".

It will be like in the 30's when FDR blamed any problems on Hoover, while claiming credit for any modest economic gains.

camanintx, quotes or links?
It wouldn't surprise me, but we've been paying for everything since the get-go (blood for oil? where's the oil, or the money from the cash-flush Iraqi government?).

Do you have any citations or links for your assertion that "we've been paying off Sunni tribes not to fight us"?

I'm just askin' !

"The MSM, also known as the DNC has ..."

Beg your pardon, I believe that should be "The MSM, also known as the DNC Ministry of Propaganda has ..."

Good post, otherwise.
