Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"It's the economy, stupid!" all over again.

And if not by university degree, the next president of the United States had better become an economist, and fast.

Leadership coach Stephen Xavier, whose list of clients includes Motorola, Goldman Sachs and Xerox, says the financial crisis suddenly dominating everybody's attention presents an even "tougher challenge" for the presidential contenders.

"Both candidates have gone on to play it rather safe politically through this economic crisis so far," he says, adding that "the best leadership, whether in business or politics, is set by bold example, not words."

He says Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama "have staked out strong and markedly different approaches on other key issues in this election, such as health care and social policy, but the economy may be the ultimate test of their judgment as possible leaders of the free world."

BETTER TO LEAD

In a recent ceremony sponsored by the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, former Republican Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker of Tennessee was presented with the prestigious 2008 Freedom Award.

Fittingly, Mr. Baker, who served 18 years in the Senate, was introduced by Sen. Robert C. Byrd, the still-energized West Virginia Democrat, who turns 91 next month.

"In an unusual - perhaps even unprecedented - set of circumstances, Senator Byrd and I served as each other's majority and minority leaders for eight very eventful years in the late 1970s and early 80s," Mr. Baker noted. "And while there are some things Senator Byrd and I disagree on, one thing on which we're in absolute agreement is that being majority leader is better."

TAKEN?

Among the Democrats not happy about bailing out Wall Street to the tune of $700 billion is former 2008 presidential candidate Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich of Ohio, who says the nation has come a great distance from "the New Deal to the raw deal."

"The golden rule of 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you' is submerged by the rule of gold: 'Do unto others before they do unto you.' "

SEGUE TO OBAMA

In the category of what's remaining and what's on the horizon for the U.S. Supreme Court, we turn to Curt Levey, executive director of the Washington-based Committee for Justice, who observes that this week marks "the beginning of the last Supreme Court term of the George W. Bush era."

The court's docket "includes important and colorful cases involving expletives broadcast live, marine mammals annoyed by Navy sonar, the 'Seven Aphorisms of Summum' vs. the Ten Commandments, and personally liability for former Attorney General John Ashcroft."

Less colorful, but equally important cases, he adds, involve Title IX, the Voting Rights Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and the Clean Water Act.

And what if Democrats led by Sen. Barack Obama storm the White House?

Mr. Levey suggests the three Supreme Court justices most likely to retire - liberals Ruth Bader Ginsburg, John Paul Stevens and David H. Souter- "may well hold out for the next four years if John McCain becomes president."

That said, he presents the "Top 10 Things to Expect from an Obama Supreme Court."

10. Expanding racial preferences

9. Creating constitutional rights to physician-assisted suicide/human cloning

8. Expanding judicial oversight of military detentions/CIA interrogations

7. Prohibiting tuition vouchers for religious schools

6. Banning the death penalty

5. Creating constitutional rights to government welfare/medical care programs

4. Stripping "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance

3. Eroding property rights

2. Ordering 50 states to "bless" gay marriage

1. Requiring taxpayers to fund essentially unlimited abortion rights

Top 7 Things McCain Should Say...
... on the Economy (space constraints)

1) He demonstrably recognized the problem with "government sponsored (sic) entities" years ago.

2) The president's greatest impact on the economy is with regard to spending, ALL of which is, by definition, detrimental to the economy and Obama's spending proposals are greater by several orders of magnitude.

3) Higher taxes have NEVER benefited the economy as a whole. It is an economic impossibility.

4) Propserity is created by wealth creating activities such as the development of natural resources in ANWR and on the continental sheves that Obama opposes.

5) Higher taxes on businesses must, by definition, ultimately fall as a tax on consumers or result in expense control measures most frequently directed at payrolls.

6) That the Obama tax plan only affects the top 5% is factually wrong. That the inflationary effects of such higher spending miust ultimately tax savers and the poor is an economic inevitability.

7) In Obama's woefully short tenure, he has already racked up $740 million in earmarks.

An Obama presidency signals the end
of the USA and the begining of the USSSA (United Soviet Socialist States of Amerika). McCain is not much better, he is a socialist like most dim witted pols today.

Item # 2 Gay Marriages
But Senator Biden made it very clear in the VP debate that they are against gay marriage. Say it ain't so Joe. Was yet another lie you told? Yet another proof that your team will say and do anything to get elected? Certainly the head of your ticket doesn't have much track record to examine for consistency, except maybe liking to vote present.

Hidden Taxes on the Middle Class
F1etch,
re: your point, with which I agree,
"5) Higher taxes on businesses must, by definition, ultimately fall as a tax on consumers or result in expense control measures most frequently directed at payrolls."

A point that I haven't seen or heard made is the hidden effect on "middle class" folks of high taxes on businesses, especially big corporations. Most everyone who works for big or small corporations has a 401K for their retirement savings. Likewise, 403B or Thrift Savings plans for those working for non-profit and government organizations. Even self-employed folks have IRAs of one type or another. When these accounts include holdings in stock funds, how well or poorly those stocks perform is indirectly based on the taxes the companys pay. Also, the stock fund must pay capital gains taxes on any gains. Of course, the retiree will pay on withdrawals at the ordinary tax rate. But, the accumulation during working years is directly affected by all of these taxes on the evil corporations.

On Deck: Karl Marx
Clearly, BO is emulating Karl Marx based upon his campaign promises.

Socialism? Who wants that? Evidently BO's mesmerized zombies do......... You'd think they would pay attention to Venezuella with its inflation being the highest in the Western Hemisphere and with its widespread shrotages of consumer staples and food...

....and yes...The high taxes are attacking the MIDDLE CLASS. AS mentioned above, higher taxes on companies do causes prices to be too high.

MIDDLE CLASS jobs are lost because of excessive taxes on employers. Meanwhile, China has been subsidizing its employers.

The Democrats have been whining that the MIDDLE CLASS is declining. Wake up! It is the social policies promoted by the Democrats that are bumping the MIDDLE CLASS down to the lower class.

The Democrats have done next to nothing in 40 years to improve the economic well being of the MIDDLE CLASS American family. They only look out for radicals, misfits and goof offs.

Republicans, however, have made progress to improve the finances for the MIDDLE CLASS.

Blinded by the light
I just don't understand how all the Obama supporters can be blind to the things that he will bring about. Look at the list of 10 things that an Obama supreme court "most likely" would bring to pass. Do you want ANY of these? Well if you are gay, then maybe one, but any of the others? Come on people, wake up!
Socialism does not bring about prosperity. It brings everyone down to the lowest common denominator which is lower than the middle class is now. Our current problems are not the result of "Bush's economic policies" or the free market unchecked. It is liberal control and interference in the free market by not allowing domestic oil production which drove up the price of oil which adversely affected the economy, which drove down home prices, which caused the colapse of the mortgage industry. Forcing banks to make bad loans added to the fire. Blaming this on Republicans is like killing someone to take their car and then blaming the the killing on the victim for having the nice car. It is insane.

Robert
Actually, excluding periods of government-caused economic chaos such as we are now seeing, the investor (often a portfolio manager handling the retirement funds of countless others) will ultimately earn an acceptable return or will move their money elsewhere (including overseas where the tax does not apply). It is because the companies MUST generate this return for their investors (ultimately without regard for how big their holdings are) that the taxation impact cannot simply syphon off "excess (sic) profits" and must, instead, flow directly to the consumer.

Who wants Obama's socialism...?
I'll tell you who: the "hundreds" of homeless, drug addicts and felons that are being rounded up in Ohio, registered to vote without residency checks and voting for Obama the same day.

The way of Rome
America is going the way of Rome. And the reason can be summed up succinctly by the following quote:

"Most men do not desire freedom. They wish only for a just master." Salust

We all want to be irresponsible kids instead of responsible adults. And as long as we have a 'parent' (governement) that indulges us, feeds and clothes us, and kisses our owies, we'll eat what they tell us, sleep where they tells us, work where they tell us. Just as long as we get our bread and circuses.

Oh where, Oh where did they come from..
as I look in the mirror. Wondering where this zombies came from.
