Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

What do Barack Obama and Jack Kemp have in common?

They both attended Occidental College, a small liberal arts school in Los Angeles, which the Republican Mr. Kemp once noted you "can't get out of without learning something."

Ditto for Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee for president, who says during his two years at Occidental he grew up "after a long hibernation," learning the values of "hard work, honesty, empathy and compassion."

In his commencement speech this past May at Wesleyan University, Mr. Obama said the Occidental community first possessed him "with this crazy idea that I was going to work at the grassroots level to bring about change."

And it was at Occidental, the school recalls in a summary of Mr. Obama's formative years, that the presidential candidate stopped being called "Barry" and became Barack.

SORRY, DEAR

It so happens that Republican vice-presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd Palin — a member of the United Steelworkers (USW) union — is funding efforts to defeat and even smear his wife.

National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation President Mark Mix has informed Mr. Palin by open letter that he does have the right to cut off "forced" union dues being spent by the USW to defeat the Republican ticket of Sen. John McCain and Mrs. Palin.

"While I'm sure you're excited by your wife's candidacy for high office, you may be discouraged to learn that the union dues you pay are already being used to defeat her," writes Mr. Mix, reminding the candidate's husband that when his USW bosses endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama in June they pledged to support his campaign with funds collected from union members.

"In fact, at the USW's 2008 convention, union officials adopted a resolution 'vowing to play a key role in electing Obama,' thus pledging workers' dues to the effort to defeat your wife's candidacy," he adds.

"Moreover, a top USW official whose paycheck you help fund is viciously ridiculing your wife's candidacy on the Steelworkers' Web site, calling Governor Palin's selection 'cynical' and claiming that by choosing your wife 'McCain has clearly shown he lacks the judgment to be president.'"

Mr. Mix says Alaska does not have a right to work law, but under the Supreme Court precedent "Communications Workers v. Beck," employees are able to stop paying forced union dues unrelated to collective bargaining, such as union electioneering.

ELECTION VALUES

No, he's not back in Washington to offer any advice to the Washington Redskins, a team he coached to three Super Bowl victories, but National Football League Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs today will be addressing participants of the Family Research Council's 2008 Values Voter Summit, a three-day conference that ends Sunday at the Hilton Washington Hotel.

MUST BE BAD

"Given the billions of dollars at stake, and number of people involved, this is easily the worst instance of government misconduct that POGO has seen."

— Danielle Brian, executive director of the Project On Government Oversight, referring to documented evidence made public this week that employees at the Interior Department's Minerals Management Service accepted gifts, ski vacations and sex from oil and gas industry personnel.

LETTER OF THE WEEK

Inside the Beltway reader Stan Welli of Aurora, Ill., writes: "One of the vice president's duties is to preside over the U.S. Senate. He (or she) may vote to break a tie. It's fascinating to visualize the organizational and personal dynamics of a body over which Sarah Palin would preside.

"This would be a Senate having Harry Reid as the likely majority leader. And it would include such familiar names as Joseph Biden, Robert 'I'm old enough to be your grandfather' Byrd, Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and Barack Obama. 'The Senate will be in order and there will be no more moose jokes!'"

A big difference between Kemp and Obama
Is that Kemp was clearly qualified for what he was running for (VP) while Obama doesn't have a clue. Kemp was consistent, Obama is a worse flip-flopper than Kerry was, flipping within a few days of previous positions. Kemp was a conservative with mainstream-American views, Obama is a radical Marxist with far-left views. Kemp made one mistake, ("why thank you") while Obama has made dozens of gaffes on the campaign trail.

Obama has a chance so long as he keeps Biden on a short leash and manages to keep people from actually learning about him.

Incidentally, I think Todd Palin should quit the union. Unions are liberal, because liberals support using them as a club. The days of peaceful negotiation at a table are past. The days of unions owning the Democrat party are here.

Babbarooster
Yeah yeah yeah unions evil clearly Marxist qualified, etc, radical, MArxist, etc, etc.

Got anything that isn't a scripted talking point. Or maybe even a new talking point?

the Pied Piper of fluff
Barack is an empty suit-- a media/packaging creation with no meat on the bones. He has brayed endlessly about "change," yet willfully failed to define just what that would mean. For no presidential nominee in living memory has the gap between adulation and achievement been so great... he is the Pied Piper of fluff.

The left, including 90% of the MSM, is clearly in panic mode. How could they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this time?! Presidente Jorge has spent like a 'Crat and otherwise stunk it up with a profligate neoCON war on the wrong bad Islamics (really to get permanent bases in Iraq to buffer Israel). This SHOULD BE no brainer for the left! [though the problems in the economy are overstated and certainly not only Jorge's fault]

The Barry Obambi accomplices, the MSM, have ALWAYS been tone deaf about Middle America. The wine and cheese crowd was not offended when Barack superciliously spoke of clinging to guns and religion and resenting ILLEGAL aliens... but those who were offended are loaded to go vote Republican, bibles in hand.

WHO is ON "FIRST" here ?

Biden is running for HILLARY the better candidate:

Obama is running for POTUS and VP

Obama/ DNC / MSM/ KOOK base have Palin running for POTUS

WE thought:
McCain was the candidate
Palin was the running mate:

SOMEONE clarify who is who and who is running for what so that we can vote:

Babies Crying in Terror

The 'Born Alive' baby who has known the closest contact with another human any human can experience - the baby has been inside another human for months.

The baby has kicked, stretched and some even suck their thumbs. Every need has been met by its human host - shelter, nourishment and safety.

Suddenly one day the baby is attacked with chemicals and poisons.

The baby enters a world bent on death and destruction towards its life.

The baby has never seen a butterfly, puppy, pretty colors or things all babies enjoy or had any human say I love you.

The baby enters the world in excruciating pain and the best trained Medical experts in the world refuse the baby any aid - in a hospital - where all facilities are available and the Doctors have sworn to protect all human life - except his.

The baby is thrown on a cold table and left to die in some hidden place.

The baby struggles to breathe because a human is born with the human will to survive. The baby cries in terror and sobs for help - that never comes - no one cares.

The innocent baby tries to live with every breath and dies alone, abandoned like a used kleenex, never having experienced anything but pain, rejection and hatred.

When the baby finally dies a death of torture and the ultimate rejection any human can receive, it is such a worthless human it doesn't even have a 'Death Certificate' issued that it ever existed.

For a few minutes, hours or days, that baby WAS an American Citizen, that should have received all of the 'Rights and Protections' under law, that any other American Citizen should have.

Michelle and Barack Obama and most Democrats, have done everything humanly possible, to make sure this baby does NOT even receive any pain medication.

Stop the Spammer!
RetiredGeek apparently has decided to follow in the footsteps of others who relentlessly spam every single thread at Town Hall with exactly the same post. See the alleged *REPLY 1* above, which has nothing whatever to do with this topic.

Please get a hook and a rope and yank him off the stage.

John
I e-mail Mr.Obama this morning, advising him to cease any participation in this "Bush League" politics.

Be thankful!
Spam or not, Retired Geek, is right on target, and those who object to this, ought to be thankful they didn't meet the same fate as those referred to.

Retirement
I just recently retired and can't imagine how I survived 50+ years in the working world without a union to protect me. It's time to move on and relegate unions to the world of the horse and buggy.
