Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Yesterday, while Sen. Edward M. Kennedy was undergoing surgery at Duke University Medical Center for his cancerous brain tumor, an invitation arrived for a book party surrounding "The Secret Plot to Make Ted Kennedy President:

Inside the Real Watergate Conspiracy." Author Geoff Shepard, a corporate lawyer who worked in the Nixon White House for more than five years, says his new book will change how people think about Watergate.

One book summary describes how the Massachusetts Democrat and his cohorts "smelled blood after the Watergate break-in and set out to exaggerate and prolong the scandal, not merely to destroy Richard Nixon, but to undermine the entire Republican Party and pave the way for another Kennedy presidency in 1976."

The author says the Kennedy conspiracy included senators, congressmen and officials from both the Justice Department and the special prosecutor's office, the latter going so far as to use "delay tactics and obfuscation" to postpone indictments.

The upcoming book reception, fittingly enough, will be held at the International Spy Museum.

Early regrets

One might argue that President Bush is counting down the days until he leaves office and returns to his beloved Texas. Consider his remarks yesterday during the Ford's Theatre Gala:

"I know you're excited about the opening of the renovated Ford's Theatre in February 2009. Laura and I are excited, too. Just send the pictures down to Crawford."

Shinola and Sunni

Every day of late, national radio host Bill Press gives his listeners a new reason not to vote for Sen. John McCain for president come November.

By Monday, the left-leaning talker had reached 101 reasons and counting, among his more recent: "John McCain doesn't know Shi'ite from Shinola."

Shinola?

Older readers of this column, unlike the younger crop, will tell you that Shinola was a popular brand of shoe polish during the previous century. The phrase, "He doesn't know [expletive deleted] from Shinola," was widely used during World War II.

So that's it

So, what really became of former White House press secretary Scott McClellan? For that answer, let's turn to current press secretary Dana Perino.

Reporter: "Last week in your statement you used the word 'disgruntled' to describe him. Why did you use that word 'disgruntled'? Is he disgruntled because he was fired? Did he, in fact, resign? Was he pushed out?"

Mrs. Perino: "Being disgruntled means being displeased or being discontented. And I think that by any measure, if you look at Scott in his comments over the past week that he is displeased with his time at the White House. That's why I used that phrase. ... And so I think that 'disgruntled' is the right way to characterize it."

Reporter: "But just for the record, so, he did resign, though, he was not fired?"

Mrs. Perino: "Technically, he resigned, yes."

Reporter: "Technically?"

Mrs. Perino: "He resigned."

Reporter: "He was asked to resign, though, Dana?"

Mrs. Perino: "I'm not going to comment on it. He resigned."

Old and new

The Central Intelligence Agency on Monday paid tribute to 89 colleagues lost in the line of duty, including two CIA employees killed during the past year while conducting missions in war zones.

CIA Director Michael V. Hayden told the stories of those officers and others whose sacrifice is commemorated on the agency's Memorial Wall. Relatives of more than 30 fallen CIA officers were in attendance Monday.

"We come together, generations old and new, to pay special tribute to those we have lost in service: Men and women, never far from our minds, who loved their country - believed it is worth working for, fighting for, even dying for, so that all that defines America will prosper and endure."

Buzz in orbit

NASA actually strapped "Toy Story" space ranger Buzz Lightyear into the Space Shuttle Discovery when it launched on Saturday and safely delivered the toy Monday afternoon to the International Space Station.

We're told that Buzz's participation in this current space mission is part of a new NASA educational program for children.

Kennedy and Watergate
The Liddy burglary was trivial, and only Nixon's reaction to it was what brought him down. Of course, the media circus and kangaroo court were to be expected from the left. Of course Teddy would be a main player.

I'd be delighted if the American public thought this is "interesting", but what exactly what is surprising?

Next book suggestion: Bill Clinton sold all our weapons technology to the Chinese. Surprise!

Disgruntled

Why is it you never hear about anyone being gruntled?

Cover-up? What Cover-up?
So you're saying it was the efforts of the Kennedy'76 group, and not Nixon's attempted cover-up, that prolonged and exaggerated Watergate?

Have you perhaps given up attempting to rehabilitate Bush's reputation, and started trying again with Nixon's?

Shinola?
What is this "shoe polish" you speak of?

And is Bill Press making some comparison between Shi'ite and the word that it replaced? Any why does that idiot need to keep coming up with new reasons not to vote for McCain, all the old reasons are good enough. The best reason I've got to vote FOR him is that the alternatives are worse.

The Kennedys wanted Obama
because they saw a possible Clinton dynasty replacing their own taking over US politics.

Now that Teddy is ill (and a glioma brain tumor is the worst in the world--I had a colleague who was *successfully* operated on twice for one, and it still killed her in nine months from discovery), the Kennedy influence will be a great deal less, as they will have no effective national figure to gain publicity and keep *Camelot* alive. And their choice of Obama will not increase their legacy.

As to Cliintons' backhng Obama--they never really campaigned for either Gore or Kerry. I wouldn't bet the ranch.

And, Obama, who showed his devotion and loyalty by abandoning his cherished church of the last two decades, has six months to reveal more unsavory aspects of his narrow life.

Everyone should read his books (borrow, don't buy) and read what he really thinks about Am. and *typical white people* (a favored phrase of his for a *uniter*) and the communization of the US that Obama envisions imposing on all of us.

I
browsed through his book in Walmart, but it didn't make sense. I put it back on the shelf, upside down and backwards. I guess I didn't take the time to find remarks that others have quoted as in promising to stand with muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction. Audacity of Hope is an apt title,
I think he is audaciously hoping to surrender.
What an arrogant piece of work.

I remember my Dad using Shinola when discussing
some people. William, Shinola resembled
excrement and actually it would be more fitting to describe the left/progressive marxist elements in our society, especially those in
elected office.

Or
to put it another way, Shinola is what has been spewed from the pulpit of Trinity United Church
of Another christ for lo these many years.

apologists for watergate
dont wory. in a year or so the reps will have Nixon, Halderman and the other guys portrayed as heroes who by diligence and perserverence managed to uncover a nefarious plot to overthrow the governmant and then graciously sacrificed their political careers for the good of the country. airports will be named for them, an aircraft carrier or two and a monument will be built next to Washingto monument. by the way dems win huge in Nov. Radio becomes politically neutral again.,suprem court in 2012 8 to 1 liberal. no chance for reps to ever stack it again, unless they blow up the building.

Watergate,Press,Shinola & Buzz
Watergate was a third rate burglary. The problems began in trying to cover it up and survive.Had Nixon been a Democrat,he would never have had to resign. He would have been protected by his peers and the media,as Democrats always are.

McCain was not my choice, but if Bill Press finds him so objectional,he must be doing something right.Bill Press is disgusting.

Scott is not only disgruntled,he is a disgruntled ex-patriot,who deserves to be pilloried and piled on.

Buzz Lightyear was my grandson's hero years ago. He had the figures and movies. This space story brought back memories.

Nixon had the
election in the bag. To think he would risk everything by planning and carrying out a totally unneccessary burglary is nuts. But the left would have us believe that he was at the wheel of the getaway car with the motor running. It's hilarious! His downfall came, as all deep thinkers know, from trying to cover up what his minions had done. He got what he deserved for the coverup attempt, but there has never been one scintilla of evidence presented showing that he knew about the break-in in advance.

Main "Reason" to vote for McCain
I was looking for a reason, any reason, to vote for McCain, Bill Press just provided me with a good reason...he is despicable!

Who would dictate Radio become nuetral?
MRCMRC, I doubt that radio becomes nuetral on its own. Those are commercial stations, seeking to make a profit, and the listeners favor Right wing subjects. Govt can't change the market.. Govt sticking their nose into that business is a waste of their time, and our money. They should spend their time on some meaningful purpose, like steroids in baseball (Good Lord, did I just say that!?)

Addendum to post #10 michigander
Also, TrickyD!ck at least had the decency to resign from office rather than disgrace it--unlike Bubba, who continued therein.

The idea of prolonging the scandal does seem to be something that would come out of cirrhotic-Teddy's mind--though it in a sense backfired (incompetent Jimmuh got narrowly elected, and would likely have been a single-term-only anyway).

What else can't we say?
By Joel Richardson, WorldNetDaily, May 19, 2008

The United States is about to be tried. At stake are the very freedoms that we all hold so dear. On March 27, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted to adopt resolution 7/19 on “Combating defamation of religions.” In one of the most Orwellian resolutions ever passed, this so-called “Human Rights Council” condemns “Islamophobia,” which includes any, “attempts to identify Islam with terrorism, violence and human rights violations.”
