Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

We recalled in this column on Monday that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton decided against a recent spread in the pages of Vogue for fear of appearing "too feminine," according to her campaign team.

Now we hear from Judi McLean Parks, professor of organizational behavior at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, that regardless of whether Mrs. Clinton wins the Democratic nomination for president, the question of how much being a woman helped or hurt her campaign will linger for a long time.

The professor says characteristics one tends to associate with women — like being facilitative or caring — are not what Americans think of as leadership traits, and therefore, Mrs. Clinton faces an uphill battle trying to overcome people's expectations.

"If you as a woman behave in a masculine manner, then in some way or another I'm going to think less of you, find you less likable, and be less likely to hire you — all because you have violated the expectations of what a woman is supposed to be like," Ms. McLean Parks explains.

"In politics, people get angry. They yell at each other. She's not allowed to do that because she is under a microscope for everything she does. As a result, she has to backpedal and soften what was a legitimate display of anger."

Pay to preside

If you don't think that a presidential candidate has to buy his or her way into the White House, then think again.

Consider the April 2008 "Harper's Index":

Total amount that Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton have given to the campaigns of Democratic "superdelegates": $1,601,925.

Amount that former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani's campaign spent to win a single Republican delegate: $48,000,000.

Big night

One of the Washington-area's finest restaurants is celebrating its 30th anniversary in style with a reception, dinner, auction and film premiere at the Mellon Auditorium on April 9.

The Inn at Little Washington is raising a toast that star-studded evening to America's "culinary pioneers," including Robert Mondavi, Martha Stewart, Wolfgang Puck and Tim and Nina Zagat, among others on the evening's list of honorees.

In addition, Thomas Jefferson and Julia Child are among those to be honored in memoriam.

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is the featured guest, and NBC's Andrea Mitchell plays mistress of ceremonies.

Bulb freedom

Did Uncle Sam rush far too fast to force Americans to screw only "energy-efficient" light bulbs into their sockets by the year 2012?

Yes, says Rep. Michele Bachmann, the first Republican woman to be elected to Congress from Minnesota. The recently enacted energy bill, she explains, contains a provision to phase out incandescent light bulbs, mandating that only the energy-efficient bulbs can be sold in the United Stats in fewer than four years' time.

Mrs. Bachmann notes, however, that the new "high-mercury light bulbs chosen for them by the government received little scrutiny" and cites studies linking the green bulbs to higher incidences of breast cancer.

Just before the Easter recess, she introduced the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act, which would repeal the mandate until the health questions are answered.

Trace your roots

Curious about when and how your ancestors arrived in America?

For the first time, the National Archives is making available online more than 5.2 million records of some of the passengers who arrived during the last half of the 19th century at the ports of Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and New Orleans.

The records, which can be found at www.archives.gov/aad, were transcribed from original ship manifests.

A Lady, or Lady Macbeth?
In pre-feminist days there used to be a saying that to get ahead a woman had to "act like a lady, think like a man, and work like a dog". The problem with Hillary Clinton is that, rather than acting like a lady, she has acted like Lady Macbeth who not only urged her husband to commit murder but when he tried and did a weak job of it, took the dagger from his hand, went to the victim, carved him up well and truly, and smeared blood all over the place, while meanwhile berating and mocking her husband for not being a real man.

Hillary
I personally like that HRC brings a knife to the party. There is no way Obama can handle the republican attack machine. They should and will do whatever it takes to win. The democrats need someone with huevos to fight back. Strangely the biggest huevos on the dem side belong to a woman. HRC needs to stop worrying about how she's perceived (c'mon we all know what everyone thinks of her) and pull out all the stops. I personally think a good back alley brawl will be good for America after 8yrs of lying around like sheep heading towards the slaughter. There's no way actual policies won't get discussed if she's in the race. With Obama it will just be a bunch of "you hurt my feelings you racist!" Wah Wah Wah!

Hillary stays angry
No one has to tell Hillary to get angry. Thats the way Hillary is all the time. Hillary said, if she appears to be intense and upset all the time, is because she is. Who's going to believe Hillary hasn't been screaming and yelling the whole time she's been losing to Obama. This is the worlds smartest woman, losing to someone like Obama, no experience, all talk and no action, campaigning on hope and change, compared to Hillary with all of the experience and knows all of the issues is going to stay calm. No way. There's a reason Bill isn't with Hillary side by side on the campaign trail. Look what happened to Ferraro. She knew Hillary couldn't go out yelling and screaming about the only reason she's losing, is because Obama is a black man, so what does Ferraro do. She falls on her own sword for Hillary by making racist comments about Obama in hopes of giving Hillary the victim status. Ferraro knew they were going to label her a racist. Better her then Hillary, was the plan. All you have to do is look at Hillarys eyes and face, even her fake smiles can't disguise the frustration thats on her face.

Ferarro was not being a racist...
...but making a self-evidently true statement. (Ask John Edwards! He didn't run for his NC Senate seat while acting as Kerry's running mate in '04 because he knew he couldn't carry NC again. Fool me once, shame on you...)

This is the only thing that Ms Ferarro has ever said or done that has caused me to respect her.

Obama simply has horrible "mentors": Frank Marshall Davis ("Frank" in Obama's "Dreams of my Father), a card-carrying commie member of Communist Party-USA (CPUSA) who marched to Moscow's tune and was Obama's "mentor" in his formative years in Hawaii, and a blatantly-racist, if not outright insane, "preacher," Rev. Wright, whose statements were never heard by long-time congregation member Obama, who was married to wife Michelle by this fruitcake and claims to have attended church services for almost two decades at this Shrine to Racial Hatred.

Wright was simply the first shoe to drop. Now I'm waiting for the second shoe...

You may not have heard it here first, but you will hear it. Too good NOT to use!

BTW, when Obama's commie mentor is exposed, this will give super-delegates an EXCELLENT reason to go with Hillary.
