Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

3 rounds of laughter (with Bush)

1 Democratic chuckle (at Bush)

1 Democratic hiss

Behind the smirk

It took seven years, until the president's very last State of the Union address, and now J.B. Poersch, executive director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, says, "I finally figured out what that smirk is for. George Bush just can't keep saying his lines with a straight face."

Stars and diamonds

Once again, Mobil Travel Guide has given its five-star award to the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, making it still the city's first and only Mobil Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond Hotel.

General Manager Christopher Hunsberger credits the hotel's 435-member staff for having demonstrated their "passion to serve and their compassion for our guests."

Spring salute

Once again, Washington art figure Marsha Ralls is being saluted for her trademark drive and enthusiasm, this time in New York.

The founder and president of the Ralls Collection in Georgetown will be honored by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) for her commitment to increasing education and economic opportunities for low-income youth at NFTE's 15th annual "Salute to the Entrepreneurial Spirit" Awards Dinner on April 2.

McCain's VP search
On to VP Search for McCain
With McCain's victory in Florida--his eventual victory is all but assured. His path to the nomination should be clear by next Tuesday night. It is prudent to start looking for a VP candidate to fill out the ticket so we can maximize our competitiveness in November. These are some initial people to think about:

Women: Representatives Marsha Blackburn (TN), Marilyn Musgrave (CO), Theresa Drake (VA), Jo-Ann Emerson (MO) Kay Granger (TX); Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson (TX) Lisa Murkowski (AK); Secretary Condi Rice

Men: Senators Tom Coburn (OK) John Thune (SD); Governors Hailey Barbour (MS), Marc Sanford (SC), Charlie Crist (FL); Former Senator Fred Thompson (TN)

The bottom line may be
that too many Americans:

A. Don't understand basic economics
B. Expect government to provide comfort, ease, and security without any personal effort.
C. Want the very same policies that have destroyed pockets of America (many inner cities) applied on a national scale.
D. Wish to surrender national sovereignty to world law, mistakenly believing that there will be peace if we do.

It matters not who the candidates are. Its the mindset that is the issue.

Sigh.
