Navy blue will be shed for black tie Monday night at the annual Lone Sailor Awards gala presented by the U.S. Navy Memorial to sea service veterans who have distinguished themselves in their careers while exemplifying the core values of honor, courage and commitment.
This year's honorees, feted at the Grand Hyatt, include: legendary St. Louis Cardinal and baseball hall-of-famer Stan "The Man" Musial; Republican Sen. John Warner, former Navy secretary and Virginia's longest-serving senator; Tom Benson, the owner of the New Orleans Saints who demonstrated his support of the city following Hurricane Katrina;and Morgan L. Fitch, former partner at Fitch, Even, Tabin and Flannery law firm in Chicago, who founded the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps youth program.
Inside the Beltway is told that House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, Missouri Democrat, will present Musial's award to no better "pinch hitter" than fellow St. Louis Cardinals legend and hall-of-famer Lou Brock.
