Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

America's 'hush'

This columnist has often wondered why it is that every time al Qaeda opens its collective mouth with murderous taunts and threats against Americans that more of us don't react in kind.

Apart from New York City firefighter Michael Moran, who walked onto the stage of the post-9/11 benefit Concert for New York and told Osama bin Laden to "kiss my royal Irish ass," the majority of us have chosen to go about our daily lives and ignore the terrorists' menacing barrage of forebodings.

Now I'm beginning to understand why.

Washington pundit Diana West, a fellow columnist at The Washington Times, among other publications, just wrote "The Death of the Grown-Up," which wonders whether American adults — President Bush included — will ever grow up?

"No wonder we can't stop Islamic terrorism," writes the author, suggesting that since the late 1960s, America's "youth-obsessed" culture — from guitar-playing baby boomers to Generation X-ers — has multiplied at the expense of reason, decency and good taste, leaving us with a nation of "eternal adolescents," and generation of permissive parents, teachers and government officials.

"We can look to the thick, blanketing fog of political correctness that hangs over the political landscape, shrouding difference, obscuring significance, and clouding debate. But something besides what we know as 'PC' plays into the resulting hush," Ms. West writes.

"The uniformity of the silence, from Left to Right, from academia to politics to journalism, tells us we have moved beyond PC to a more profound, more enveloping level of orthodoxy."

Even when fighting an escalating terrorism threat that already has so dramatically changed our lives.

"Example: When, in the shell-shocked wake of 9/11, President Bush began his historically inaccurate and theologically absurd 'Islam is peace' offensive [-] which to this day relies on a willful ignorance of the johad ideology that has driven Islamic history for thirteen centuries [-] no voices of correction, no attempts at historical analysis coalesced into a school of thought that was admitted into the political mainstream, not even among pro-war, anti-PC conservatives.

"Ultimately, I came to understand this as a post-adult moment because it felt as if no grown-ups were speaking up; indeed, it became alarmingly clear that there were no grown-ups to speak up."

How'd they do that?

How did the White House manage to keep yesterday's surprise presidential visit to Iraq's Anbar province shrouded in secrecy?

President Bush's third trip to Iraq since the start of the war "was a tightly held secret" planned for about six weeks, or so we read in the White House pool report.

Washington-based reporters who accompanied the president to Iraq were only telephoned over the Labor Day weekend and summoned for "individual, face-to-face" meetings at the White House, and were informed they would not make a Monday-morning trip to Australia "as had been publicly announced, but Sunday between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Reporters were given maps of Andrews [Air Force Base] with our rallying point highlighted," we read.

As for Mr. Bush, he "slipped out of a side door of the White House and then off the White House grounds" in what was a rare, two-car motorcade "in an effort to keep the subterfuge going."

Natal intelligence

Every day, all sorts of people with assorted messages write to the president of the United States, astrologers included.

"Mr. Bush, I just warned you last week not to travel during this time," one star reader named "Sven" wrote to George W. Bush yesterday after learning of the president's surprise visit to war-torn Iraq. "We just had an eclipse that fell on your Progressed Ruler (Mercury) and conjuncted the USA chart's Progressed Sun. Saturn is conjunct Regulus (the "King Maker"/"King Breaker" Star), and tomorrow it intercepts your Sun/Moon midpoint, which are in SQUARE to one another in your natal chart ...

"Trust me: I am America's greatest living astrologer. These are all BAD OMENS. You should lay low for at least another month after that eclipse ... I hope you're OK. Please be careful."

Jews for Obama

Jews for Obama, a blog for Jewish supporters of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for president in 2008, asks readers to show their support in style with red, white and blue "Obama-kahs" skullcaps, or yarmulkes.

Mr. Obama's volunteers in New York City created the Jewish skullcaps, also called kippot.

"The yarmulkes are professionally made of ivory white suede, with 'Obama '08' printed in blue, and the campaign's logo directly above the text," the blog notes. "Please help us spread the word about their availability by reaching out to your friends at your synagogue (or your classmates at your local college's Hillel) and to any other Jews you know who support Senator Obama, and point them to our website: www.jewsforobama .blogspot.com."

SHELL
Hello fellow Jewish conservative! I've read a number of your posts and I'm delighted to be in your company.

Very Enlightening
Thanks for the information. I should know better than to jump to conclusions when I haven't searched for both sides of the story. Like everyone, I make my judgments based on superficial observations of the norm, which doesn't always provide a balanced and descriptive analysis of the inner-workings.

Shells - I think a screenplay would be great. If you wanted it to resonate with the public though I'd suggest that at least one central character, if not the very central character be a non-Jew who somehow finds him/her self involved with the culture. Besides, that way any observations they make will seem more unbiased and objective rather than critical.

Grateful American
Hello fello Jewish Conservative!

SHELL, DAVID AUSTIN
Shell you are not alone. I too am a politically conservative Jew in a sea of Jewish liberals. It's like swimming against the tide and it's very disheartening to be viewed as a pariah by your own community. I agree that American Jews have been brainwashed by not only the mainstream media, but by Jewish leadership who have put the emphasis on "feelings" instead of standards. Jewish values are much more in alignment with conservative values, but as you said, Liberals are portrayed as "empathetic", and thus the identification with liberalism. Dave, it takes much more than than the denounciation of Christ to be a Jew. Judaism does not seek converts and actually tries to discourage those that do seek to convert. One has to study and go through the rituals before conversion does take place. Recently there has been talk of making Judaism more visible to the general population. I think that by doing so, it would give more people a glimpse of Jewish beliefs, customs, and rituals.

Oops
I meant WWII, a little sleepy LOL

Boromir and David
Honestly, it's so hard to grasp too. I respect my heritage and my history, as well of course my elder relatives who escaped death and came here with nothing to build up large families and prosper. They stressed education, hard work and family values. You would think they'd be republicans.

Not so. After the holocaust, and still living with cultures and within environments that won't accept them, Jews just to put it simply, want to be loved.

Generalizing here: They're entertainers, or they try to be successful, whatever it takes for them to be accepted. Part of being accepted is to believe you are connected to a group that accepts all, which they believe are liberals. Liberals are supposed to love everyone, right?

They have been taught not to fear and loathe Islamic extremists, but Christianity. What they in turn don't realize is by believing the tripe they do and as some Jews or the ACLU do to enact their dismantling of Christianity--they have become the exact group that my elders had to flee from before WWI. They don't see the comparison.

I told my family to read townhall posts sometimes and see what the liberal trolls have to say about Jews and Israel. They said "No, those are obvious plants brought on by that website to inflame ill informed republicans."

I could write a book, our relationship has already been shattered---over socialized healthcare, believe it or not. But I think a screenplay would be better. I'd have Rosie O play my mother and Tim Robbins play my father.

Shells
I'm hesitant to butt into this conversation, but I find myself fascinated by your logic. I’m not Jewish, but I dated one in school many years ago and I’ve always had a predilection for them, especially all they’ve gone through and are still going through. One thing I could never understand is why the most radical ideologues on the left are Jewish? Even the lawyers that represent the Islamic extremists, the very people who are sworn to kill Jews, are in fact Jewish. You’re conversation with David helps me understand a little more, but I still don’t get it.

Restored my faith
And I'm sure there are many more like you. Even despite some of the culture that shapes Judaism the way that it is, it remains a group comprised of amazing people. Undoubtedly as a people eccentricities here or there are more than justifiable and understandable. Your comments on guilt can be applied to so many similar groups of people. My grandma was that way, spiting herself to prove she was someone she wasn't when who she was was perfectly acceptable, if not admirable.

Your part on spoonfed propaganda is so spot on - yes, I think that is a disease endemic to liberals and infects almost everyone who comes in contact with it. I'm impressed that you've managed to keep your head above it.

You ought to write that book I mentioned. Of course, any sense of attachment your family still has with you would probably be shredded to bits. Oh well ...

David Austin
I'm so glad we understand each other now, and I apologize for getting offended and misjudging you.

Honestly, I haven't met one Jewish conservative in my life, although I know a few exist. My liberal family, although they seem like good natured people and somewhat intelligent, believe that Bush blew up the WTC's, that Christians are dangerous, there are no such things as Muslim extremists, and that Michael Moore is a brilliant man.

We don't speak anymore. My liberal tolerant family feels it's better not to speak to their conservative daughter who shames them.

But yes, Jewish liberalism comes from pure guilt. Guilt of being alive, prospering, and knowing most people hate you for it, one way or another. They feel they owe themselves and the world to be a liberal. Unforutnately, they have no clue and there is no explaining things to them. You cannot wash away the spoonfed propaganda they've swallowed.

Apart from being Jews, I think all liberals are afflicted with that.

Thanks Shells
Let me also add ... even though you misjudged me intent and sentiments, I understand how you did, and I'm sorry I can across that way. I also want to say thank you for explaining in some way why I've observed what I've observed. It's also refreshing to hear a Jewish person who doesn't necessarily tow the line of some of the things that I've found bewildering. It has confirmed in me that the Jewish people are as different within their body as is any ethnic group (not to say the Jewish community is just an ethnic group - I know better), and should be considered as such.

Shells
You have censured me for what you call "my dislike of [Jews] as a whole". On the contrary, I've never met a Jewish person that I didn't like. Individually, and personally they seem to be very nice, wonderful people. I'm also amazed with the resiliency of the Jewish people. Admittedly, growing up out west, I've never known too many Jewish people, but I have come from a family and tradition that has always respected them and had the best things to say about them.

Recently however as I've spoken with various Jewish people I've been disappointed that within their general organization as Jewish people I've observed some pretty difficult to respect opinions. Again, I'm not referring to the religion but rather to political and ethnic opinions (as I noted above), and when I first confronted it I figured I was just talking to the wrong Jew. Since then I've found most of the Jews I've encountered sharing those opinions to some degree.

Frankly I just found it bewildering. I'm sure however that the Jewish community is made up of hundreds of diverse elements, from conservative to strongly liberal, but for the life of my I cannot understand the basis for many opinions that would surprise most non-Jews if they knew about them.

I'm just confused by what I see, and if you had a suggestion of a book that might clarify it, or provide me with a more understandable and explanatory perspective of what I've observed I would read it asap.

You must, as must all Jewish people, understand that if you want to world to respect you then you have to explain yourselves. If what I've mentioned isn't accurate, then the onus is on your people to clear it up - not just accuse everyone who's as bewildered as me of "disliking" Jewish people. Because that simply isn't true.

Oops
Guess it did come through

David Austin
I wrote a long post to you but it didn't come through. So let me just summarize briefly:

As a conservative Jew living in middle America, I can honestly say you truly know nothing about Jews. Your opinions come with your dislike of those people attached to it. I agree liberal Jews baffle and confound me. It comes from their guilt---they feel being a liberal makes them a better person. See, liberal propaganda teaches Jews that conservatives are the true Nazi's.

David Austin
As a Jew myself, I think I can kindly say to you that you really need to get your head out of the sand. You really know nothing about the Jewish culture.

I will say that I do find it disheartening, as a conservative Jew, to see my liberal family support people like Hillary or Obama. It's not because they are Jewish Nazi's......It's out of pure guilt to avoid being considered Nazi's. They have been all brainwashed to believe conservatives are warmongers and Jews do not want to be affiliated with that type of club.

I'd say most are grossly misinformed and accept liberal teachings out of guilt. However, your opinions of Jews are pretty much coming from your own personal dislike of them as a whole. It's ok, it's your right to feel however you do about different cultures.

Badrepublican
Is your comment meant to be intelligent? If so, you have missed the mark?

The same goes for Bucko with his comment!

I'll respect American Jews when...
I'll respect American Jews as a whole when they start unitedly supporting the cause of Israel instead of undermining it as famous Jews like George Soros does and has always done.

And don't get me started on their irrational self-identification as being anyone who refuses to believe in Christ. You don't even have to have Jewish blood and they'll gladly accept you - all you have to do is deny the divinity of Christ and say you want to be Jew. If a Jew (by blood and by ethnicity) however converts to Christianity they are disowned by the Jewish community and are considered the worst kind of heathen/enemy possible (even worse than a Palestinian rebel terrorist).

I'm all for Israel, but so many of the mainstream Jewish people seem to have such irrational opinions, and I'm not talking about religion, that it's hard to respect anything that they do when they can be so prejudiced themselves.

Jews For Hitler. Jewish Nazis.
Jews for Obama is the same as Jews for Hitler. Obama has horrific racial hatred for Jews. Any Jew that can support Obama is a Jewish Nazi. You're talking about Jews who would defend the Holocaust.

If Bush...
...could run the country as well as he can sneak around, he wouldn't have to sneak around.

Bucko*

*Affectation only.

disconcerting
It is shocking how many Americans seem to want to commit suicide. Jews holding up signs are the Islamic school that they are for it???

Read Mark Steyn's "America Alone". They are not apologetic about saying kill the infidel. They are not apologetic about wanting to take over the world.

Burt P. likes to say, Islam is the only religion they have to keep reminding us is a religion of peace.

Islam is a huge threat to the world. We are the last man standing and barely at that. Reminds me of the scene in the Will Smith movie. The new age, fruit and flower people are overjoyed to welcome the aliens. Then the aliens slaughter them all.

Pretty much how the Islamofascists will treat the infidels who welcome them. (The Catholic church in Netherlands calls god Allah now!)
