Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"There is a mysterious cycle in human events. To some generations much is given. Of other generations much is expected. This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny." -- FDR

We Americans, complain though we may, are a generation to which much has been given. We have enjoyed a level of power and prosperity that has exceeded anything known by human beings in world history.

Our military has been impossible to defeat in conventional battle and our industry has been the engine of the world economy. Not only do we feed the world, we make much of its medicine and entertainment as well. Because of our trade policies that have allowed in cheap goods from all around the planet, even the poor in this country usually have cars, TVs, and air conditioning.

Inventions we take for granted -- like the computer, cell phone, DVR, Mp3 player, and microwave -- have helped make our lives considerably richer than they were even in 1980, when none of those marvelous advances were widely available to the public and we were gripped in the throes of a recession far worse than the one we're in today.

If we could go further back in time 75 years ago and give the richest men in America the opportunity to trade all their wealth for the lifestyle available to a middle-class American today, the overwhelming majority of them would jump at the opportunity.

But, do Americans today appreciate what they have? Do they understand how much blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice it took to get us to this point? Do they still have that sense of connection to the Christians who were willing to cross an ocean and settle an untamed continent so they could freely practice their religious beliefs? Do they feel tied to the Founding Fathers who wanted to see this become a great nation? Do they admire the courage of American pioneers and settlers who tamed this country one wagon train and settlement at a time? When they think of the men who have died fighting to defend this country and its citizens, do they appreciate it or even understand their motives? How many Americans would still agree with Tom Paine's immortal words, "If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace?"

Now, there have always been shameless freeloaders in this country and politicians that have had no qualms about pandering to them in order to get their votes. Happily, because of this country's Christian work ethic, a steady stream of hard working immigrants, and the innovation, drive, and determined spirit of the American people, the number of "takers" in our country has always remained relatively small.

That being said, a rather colossal shift seems to have taken place not just in our government, but in our culture. People no longer seem ashamed to take welfare or food stamps. They expect their neighbors to pay their mortgages. They think the government should keep their failing businesses afloat. In short, they seem to believe they have a "right" to have their fellow Americans pay their bills.

In the past, there have always been politicians who were happy to loot the productive members of our society to buy votes from those sort of n'er-do-wells. However, what is unusual about the situation that we now find ourselves in is that so many Americans seem to be willing not just to rob the producers of today, but to rob their own children.

In an environment, where armies of activists steadfastly fight the tiniest of spending decreases for the most hidebound of government agencies and the most Byzantine of bureaucracies, we're running deficits in the trillions and openly pledging to spend even more. Moreover, the nearly measureless amounts of money we're spending are not being put towards great accomplishments. We're not paying out these mastodonic sums to build an interstate highway system or get to the moon; we're spending it on giveaways to bankers, interest group boondoggles, and make-work government programs.

In twenty years, when our children have 20-30 trillion dollars of debt to deal with, massive deficits, an economy that is barely crawling along because of sky high tax rates, and their own personal senior citizen to support out of their wages courtesy of welfare and Medicare, how do we expect them to have the same sort of opportunities we've had? Are they going to inherit a "shining city on a hill" or a shotgun shack on the backside of a mountain? What is being done to future generations of Americans today in Congress is one of the most shameful acts in our country's history. It's the equivalent of stealing the baby's milk money to buy Viagra and it is selfish, contemptible, and unworthy of the proud legacy we've been left by previous generations of Americans.

People don't get it
People don't see the writing on the wall. As he has done for the past month about the economy and the "Strong Disagreement" on Terror, Barak will tie this disaster on George Bush. He has a complete pass. It can drop 2,000 more points, and still it will be George Bush's fault...until it goes up, as it eventually will, and he'll take all the credit. We've already heard him say it a million times, as if he weren't a part of the budget process last year: "Listen, I came here with budget problems from the previous Administration."

Why does this guy get a free pass on the budget, when the President has virtually no control over it? Perhaps I mis-read my Constitution about who controls the purse-strings. He voted on the budget, the President didn't. It's HIS budget, dog gone it! And no one says anything.

Joker, Joker, Joker, and a triple
Obama, Reid and Pelosi are an economic, confidence-destroying trifecta.

Obama's seducing the losers into thinking he's doing what is right for the country. It's all bad.

Where is the outcry when he uses our hallowed tax-payer money for more abortions overseas, picks tax cheats for his cabinet, when his stimulus bills and economic plans SCARE the daylights out of consumers such that the dow drops to levels unseen since 1996!!! It's fallen to nearly half of what it was at the high of 13,000.

Watch as they ram more and more pork-laden bills and bailouts, and socially disturbing and irresponsible leftist agenda items down our throats.

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" Isaiah 5:20.

Its Generation Whine
and their GrabbyBaby offspring that are to blame for this -- those who believe they deserve a prize just for continuing to breathe, and that they get endless chances to jab at the UNDO button and erase the past as if it had never been. I attended a lecture this past weekend in which a study was propounded, showing that the massive number of abortions among young women of the GrabbyBaby generation is due to their view of abortion as an UNDO button -- that makes them un-pregnant in the way pushing Re-Set on their Nintendo makes their character un-dead. They view every failure the same way -- all they need do is scream until someone pushes the UNDO button and life reverts to what it was before they screwed up.

A pastor I had once compared this attitude to a little boy who took his new hammer and pounded his mothers coffee table full of nails. Mama spanked him for it, and the contrite child pulled all those nails out. But when he went to tell Mama what he had done, she simply replied, *Now pull out the holes.*

Generation Whine has spent high school, university, business school and their careers pounding nails in the coffee table. Now they are screaming that it is our duty to pull out the holes.

Sorry, kiddies. We are retiring. Those are your holes. Have fun.

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Fwank, etc
Daniel 5:25-28 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

Not Understanding Much
The gigantic task of trying to debate economic, as well as historical, concepts is that most citizens really do not have much of a concept of either one, and a crisis (with emotions high) is the wrong time to try to educate and then debate the merits and possible pros and cons of each side.

Watching Barney and Friends reminds me strongly of local church councils I have sat on. A lot of the persons on these boards want to be important, they may have low or meaningless jobs or stations outside of church. (Local zoning boards are comprised likewise, I've found) Raises are given, additions planned, busybody committees, groups and activities organized. When questioned about the financial soundness of such decisions, the answer "the Lord will provide" is a common one. Try to cut a preschool or daycare program that is leaking red ink and not bringing families into the church, and the defense is that "Jesus said bring the little children unto thee." Only when we ran out of money (after years of warning expenses were exceeding income), did things change.

While cooler heads usually prevail, sometimes righteous anger is appropriate. Obama and the moneychangers should be driven out of the temple.

When BO begins to blame GWB,
remind him that "we have only one President at a time."

Jimbo
I agree with you. How long will it be before Obama starts to take responsibility. Geithner has done nothing, Obama, Pelosi and Reid are on a spending spree which obviously investors know is a disaster. Since announcing his initiatives as he calls them people have truly been in a panic and confidence is dropping daily. I do believe that this works for Obama. He has watched the middle class dwindle as they have lost their savings and 401K money. He hopes we will become more dependent on the government for our existence and he fully intends to tax us to death to make this happen.

I was under the impression
that if you're going to get screwed, at least a little kiss before seems appropriate...

Woody from Iowa

Agreed
This column is a bit late, but it is good to see someone taking Reagan to task for his irresponsibility. What kind of person builds his popularity by goosing the economy during periods of prosperity at the expense of future generations?

Oh wait, are you not talking about Reagan's deficits which we are still paying for? Perhaps you have in mind Bush's deficits similar run up during an admittedly enemic period of growth.

What, you are blaming Obama for addressing the weak economic conditions he inherited following the Reagan and Bush deficits? Then nevermind.

HLH Silver Spring, MD
I agree. This spending spree of Obama's is like putting it all on a giant credit card. The interest payments are going to be so high that we will never get to repay the principal. Furthermore, only SOME of us will be making payments. The rest will continue to spend and demand to be released from their prior obligations.

John
Loved the collumn. My hope is that we as a people will wake up before it's to late. Then again I don't have much hope.
Kirk

Jimbo
The reason is because nothing is ever the fault of a demarat. The DFL is always going to blame someone else. Look at Mr jefferson con from LA, $90,000 found in his frezzer, and he just did'nt trust the bank. No it was bribe money, the FBI found it. Did he resign? No the voters had to kick him out. By contrast, when the con from CA rep Cuningham got caught, he resigned. No Jim they are always right, and never at fault.
Kirk

Who you going to run to
We have become a nation of thieves. When the party's over and the bills come due, who you going to run to?

obamatrons, you've shyt in your own nest.

Thank goodness for the Internet
If it weren't for the Internet, the ONLY information most folks would have is the mainstream media. A friend of mine who doesn't have a computer left me a message yesterday, surprised and apalled at one of the aspects of illegal immigration that the MSM tends to ignore, but of which ALL the readers of Townhall would have been quite familiar. She had gotten a fundraising letter from a conservative and it was an eye-opener.

Think of what a field day the liberals would have right now without the Internet.

"Experts usually aren't."

God, in his infinite wisdom must have known that education is wasted on most people, so he gave us the tools to survive, if we will just use them. They are Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Gut.
When I see Barny frank, hear obama speak, and smell the garbage legislation they put out, my gut tells me to run.

Foxie
Plus we have the DOUBLE BLESSING of Martin O'Malley, The Obama Wannabe.

Lon
Good to see you not missing the opportunity to bash individuals, what a wonderful person you are. HOWEVER, you still refuse to deal with the points put forth, rather cowardly, but you are free to be so if that's what's admirable to you.

ropati
What do you mean “when?”

Lunacy
The problems we face now are probably going to become much worse.

The liberals are just to stupid to realize that they have not only doomed us but themselves. We are trying to sound the alarm and change course or slow down this impending disaster.

The liberals are stuck in their fantasy world of "it's Bush's fault" now and forever.

None of the Odumbobots understand that spending 100 times more than you earn will not do anything other than leave you in greater debt.

Odumbobot's unfortunatly believe that SOMEONE else is going to pay for "IT" whatever it may be. Eventually when Odumbo crashes the economy and the liberals are sent the bill they will still find a way to blame someone else.

America was founded to escape the excessive taxation of the British King. Liberals for some reason actually want to go back to that excessive taxation.

It's funny that Liberals have no clue how opressive it will be once they get what they so desperately desire.

For ropati, Don_cos is correct
Big Huris Zero started blaming Bush when he first got to represent Shitecago in Senate--and continued it till now.

Couldn't agree more...or maybe I could?
Michelle Hart:

You said it. All liberals are stuck on the "it's Bush's fault" kick and won't even for a second try to see things as they are. I understand that as the leader of our nation, the President is to take a good bit of blame (something that comes along with the job), but it seems that Obama will be the exception (he apparently didn't get the memo) and is probably incapable of causing any harm whatsoever.

At the same time, I'm agreeing totally with AudiR10. The term "GrabbyBaby" is so appropriate! I would like to think that our nation could be one that consists of grateful, mature individuals who will not take anything for granted and value the rewards of hard work. Unfortunately when you think about it and take a look at the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc. of hardworking men (and women) who now do not have to worry about the daily struggle that many of us face regarding food, clothing, shelter, and so on. These people are unable to relate hard work with their easy lives (as it seems they have nothing to do with one another).

I for one am not going to lose hope (nor will I ever consider Viagra more important than my children's well being), but I cannnot put that hope in any man that walks this earth (especially if he would rather increase our dependency on the government).

Jimbo Ca
First, good article John Hawkins.
To Jimbo,
Your question, "Why does this guy get a free pass on the budget, when the President has virtually no control over it? Perhaps I mis-read my Constitution about who controls the purse-strings. He voted on the budget, the President didn't. It's HIS budget, dog gone it! And no one says anything".
This President does have control, total control. This man is dedicated to one thing, all will surely find out in short time. His agenda is to destroy this nation. Period. Keep a watch on him and what he is doing each day. Listen to his rhetoric carefully. Most have heard but did not hear, most saw but did not see. He is doing exactly what he told the American people he would do. You must look beyond this label "Liberal Democrat" He is not liberal nor is he a democrat. Those are only the rails on which he rides. Nothing will faze this guy. He is above it all.

Totalitarian Socialism
Communism now has a Fresh Audacious New Face, Barrack {Barky} Hussien Obama, and a NEW NAME------- OBAM-UNISM!! Watch for Massive Influxes of Kenyans, Nigerians and Somalians!! Harken to The Death Knell of the Caucasian Race.

Immigration
We have unlimited illegal and legal immigration. I commute on the same subway train in NY for the past 18 years. I noticed last night that I was the only caucasian (and probably American born person) on the train. 10 years ago it was about 50/50. The reason that so many people in the U.S. feel that someone else should pay their freight, is that most here are not American born. They have no loyalty or feelings of patriotism. This is not their homeland. We are a cash cow for them to come, earn money, and send it home. Millions are not even here legally so they've already shown they're criminals, so what's wrong with someone else paying your bills.

You can do something
Instead of just writing gripes, use the internet to get rid of this pestilence! Open your mind to the idea that those who insist Obama is not eligible to be POTUS are not kooks! He can be removed now, not in a year or two when the country is totally destroyed.

You can read up on the definition of "natural born citizen" at federalistblog.us- it requires TWO citizen parents- he doesn't meet the test. There's a great summary of the whole issue, including the applicable laws at
http://paralegalnm.wordpress.com/2009/02/27/barack-hussein- obama-a-natural-born-subject-of-great-britain. (Obama's website admits he was born a subject of Great Britain through his father.) Dr. Taitz, the lawyer behind a dozen of the lawsuits insisting on proof of his eligibility, posts on defendourfreedoms.us

Read all you can on the issue, even if you don't agree at this point. It costs you nothing to learn what it's about.

He used the net to get elected by truly ignorant people. We can use it to inform and organize those who want to save our freedoms.

Good Read
I thought this was a good article. It seems many don't appreciate the sacrafices that so many made to make this a great nation. In my 50 years, I have seen a pattern of funding shortfalls from those just 5 to 10 years my senior to my age group in school benefits and now retirement benefits. It seems the early Baby Boomers got it all, so to speak. Now the Baby Boomers have become the Nannies of us all. It's difficult to fight large numbers of self-serving citizens. I just hope my own kids don't have to sacrafice for the mistakes of the older Boomers.

Mr. Hawkins
Well said!

Fits precisely O'bama's vision
Undoubtedly he believes he is come to the presidency to create a new economic and social paradigm. By his self-assured manner and total indifference to the Judeo-Christian foundation mandating personal responsibility and conscientious work-ethic, Barack O'bama plainly is on a mission to fulfill what is to him a divine calling. Here is the oppressed man's chance to loot the wealth accumulated by the efforts of the diligent and productive, carefully amassed, as it is believed, and kept from minorities.
This is seized upon by the O'bama administration as an opportunity for payback and a ready-made 'reparations' windfall. Not surprisingly, there is a cult-like devotion among secular leftist types(i.e. Democrats) to this cause. To them it is the most effective way possible to further weaken the moral under-pinnings upon which our society has flourished.

Obama, Leader to ruin
Even in two years or more this idiot will still be blaming Bush for the bad economy even though time has proven otherwise. Such it was with FDR in the 30's.
Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Funny, limp-wrist Frank, Biden, Schumer and the rest will never accept that their policies have been the blame for what has happened. I see how "The One's" comments only lead to a futher fall in Wall Street and I'm amazed that the Sheeple, the Liberal press and MSM continue to hold this bunch of children of Satan in such high esteem.
Either the Sheeple have really lost their reason or intelligence (if they ever had any) or their moral values have really fallen.
Truly the comments I've heard and read form these citizens of evil scare me.
We're on a fast train to ruin and I want off!
