Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Although I'm supporting John McCain for President in 2008, I have to admit that I'd rather see Hillary Clinton as his opponent. That's not because I think she'd be a weaker candidate; it's because I'd love to see that smug tin god, Barack Obama, humbled and forced to taste bitter defeat at Hillary's hands.

Ironically, just a few months ago, I would loved to have seen Hillary beaten by Barack because she seemed to have such a sense of entitlement about the Democratic nomination. So now, the shoe is completely on the other foot.

Come to think of it, that may be Barack Obama's only significant accomplishment: he has been the first Democrat who has ever made conservatives see any good at all in Hillary Clinton.

Additionally, in the spirit of Operation Chaos, I'd like to see the Democratic fight over the nomination be as long and bloody as possible. Moreover, believe it or not, I have developed the slightest twinge of "sympathy for the devil" since the mainstream media has started treating her like an "honorary Republican" for daring to try to defeat Obama.

So, when the MSM essentially adopts the Obama campaign's position and argues that Hillary should get out now, even though she can still win, I feel the chivalrous urge, counter-productive though it may be, to defend her just a bit -- especially since Hillary Clinton does have a very strong case to make to the Democratic superdelegates who will decide the winner of the race. What case would that be? Well...

1) Hillary's voters are more likely to defect to McCain than Obama voters are if their candidate doesn't get the nod. In fact, according to a Gallup poll last month, 19% of Obama voters would vote for McCain if Barack lost, but 28% of Hillary's voters would do the same if the situation were reversed. Of course, the percentages wouldn't turn out to be that high, but however you slice it, the conventional wisdom about Obama's supporters being the ones that sit home or defect if he loses appears to be wrong.

2) According to a study done at Yale, "(i)n House races, white Democrats are 38 percentage points less likely to vote Democratic if their candidate is black."

Think about those numbers and then consider that McCain is a moderate who may genuinely appeal to many white middle-of-the-road Democratic voters and that Obama has refused to disavow his connection with anti-white racist, Jeremiah Wright. It's not a pretty picture for Obama, is it?

3) In a number of states, including Pennsylvania, Barack did significantly worse than his poll numbers indicated that he would. What that suggests is that there is a Bradley Effect happening in large swathes of the country that is making Obama's numbers look 4-5 points higher than they are in reality. Take away that bump, especially in key states like Pennsylvania, and Obama would clearly be a weaker candidate against McCain than Hillary Clinton.

4) Hillary has beaten Obama in the large swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, and Ohio. Chances are, these states are going to decide who the winner of the 2008 election is and Hillary seems to be running stronger in all of them than Barack so far.

5) In a Republican winner take-all system, Hillary would be ahead of Obama. Granted, "If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride," but it's still worth noting that Barack only has more delegates than Hillary because he has managed to game the Democrats' wacky primary system.

6) Despite the fact that Obama is raising more money than Hillary, she is still out-raising McCain. Moreover, given that Hillary is beating Obama in states where he's outspending her by a considerable margin (3 to 1 in Pennsylvania, for example), you have to question whether Obama's fundraising prowess will turn out to be any more important than Howard's Dean knack for raising cash was in 2004.

7) Although Hillary has a lot more baggage than Obama, she has also proven to be much more adept at dealing with scandal than Barack. Keep in mind that we're talking about a guy who was so stunned by getting a few tough questions at an ABC debate that he cancelled his next debate in North Carolina. For all her faults, Hillary has proven that she can take the heat while Barack has looked like a bumbling wimp under fire.

8) Obama, who hasn't even completed a single term in the Senate, comes across as unqualified when he's up against a man with as much experience as McCain -- especially if voters are worried about a 3 AM crisis. On the other hand, Hillary has completed a term in the Senate, has been re-elected, and since her husband was President, voters will give her some credit for his experience. McCain would still have an advantage over Hillary in the experience category, but many more voters would consider her to be at least qualified to do the job in the first place.

9) If Obama wins the Democratic nomination, it will only be because black voters overwhelmingly voted for him because he is black. That has been his ace in the hole so far, but it would mean nothing in a general election because black voters already break 90% towards the Democrats anyway. His other potent voting block, young voters, are notoriously unreliable. Today they may be pulling the lever for Obama, but in November, they may be too busy playing video games to show up and vote. On the other hand, Hillary's strongest voting blocks, white women and older white voters, do show up to vote and they're much more up for grabs in a general election than Obama's core supporters.

10) Hillary is arguing that if you count the vote totals in Michigan and Florida -- and haven't Democrats been saying "count every vote" -- then she has a lead on Obama in the popular vote. So, if the superdelegates want to respect the "will of the people," shouldn't Hillary be their choice?

Can't you just sit back & watch this thing play itself out? Everyone is offering yards & yards of commentary... commentary that will be completely, precisely meaningless in a few weeks, as the situation changes daily (HIllary finds new ways to spin a victory) and, yet, stays the same (a Hillary victory is next to impossible as she'll never get the superdelegate endorsments needed to overturn Barack's victory).

These Hillary-Obama columns, coming from Hillary-and-Obama-bashing Townhall, become just another excuse for vitrioic posters to get their rocks off.

By the way, John. Obama is twice the man you'll ever be (being a hack-for-hire writer on a partisan website takes its toll, I know)..

Actually, sorry, John
I'm being unfair. I apologize for the name-calling.

I got annoyed. Half the columns here today are about Barack, Clinton & superdelegates (including one on Hillary titled "Not Quite Roadkill"), and the truth is: conservative columnists' opinions mean absolutely zilch. YOU'RE not going to vote for either candidate anyway. YOU'RE not going to have one iota's chance of influencing the direction the democratic primaries take. Or influencing votes democratic superdelegates cast. So it's all chat & spin. A case might be made for democrats like Dean, Gore & Pelosi influencing the direction, but yards & yards of commentary from cynical republicans is exactly meaningless.

All these columns are the real roadkill. As disposable as Kleenex.

Will
And just a few months ago, they weren't EVER going to vote for McCain either.

They can't even influence their own party!

Hawkins, Oh No You didn'd!
Great article. However, the superdelegates are wimpier than Obama who refused to debate again. They will give Obama the nomination, not because he is the choice of the people (considering FL & MI) but because they are more concerned with annoying 'blacks' than explaining to 'white women' why Hillary lost. Ultimately, Obama will lose to McCain, giving Hillary another chance to compete in 2012 without another minority in the picture.

the thrill is gone...
B.B. King sang it best.

There was a time not long ago when BHO looked invincible, back before Wright, Michelle's comments, and BHO's remarks in San Francisco.

At that time I thought an Obama could draw a good number of independents, including whites, who desperately wanted an alternative to a Hillary thinking she is entitled to the presidency, and a McCain who too often swigs the neocon slop that so damaged our nation for the past seven years.

Few were aware of BHO's leftist voting record, as the National Journal recently disclosed(that was an aberration, for media is in the tank for BHO)

Mostly it still is.

After withering but legitimate charges by some on the right that media was incapable of assessing BHO in anything other than glowing terms, Stephanopoulis and Gibson were forced to actually ask the Illinois senator a couple of awkward questions.

The SNL satire and skit a few months back about media's infatuation and sycophantic drooling over BHO must have hit a nerve.

Democrats are in a bind. Obama is now damaged goods, thanks to Obama. But the uber leftists and blacks will demand Obama get the nomination.

Americans reject a continuation of Bush policies by overwhelming numbers.

Logically, Democrats should win.

But the damage Obama did to Obama is severe.

So much so that Johnny may win.

Even if Johnny wants to invade other nations, our military simply won't be able to sustain it, given our current commitments.

But he can bomb to his little heart's content.

And that is troubling.

Will is right
Can't you folks find something else to write about other then BO or HC? For the last 6 weeks it has been ad nauseam here. And to be honest why would so called "conservative writers" give a rats you know what about it anyway? The political tide will be much different in October then it is now so must of this is wild speculation anyway.

Will & Chains
I agree wholeheartedly with both of you. The motivation for a self-described "opinionated political website" to spend so much time discussing opinions on current politics is a complete mystery.

There are so many other more relevant topics for a political discussion site.....What’s Britney up to nowadays? Who’s left on Dancing with the Stars?

John
I know how you feel. I have, more or less, decided that if I vote at all it will be for Hillary even though I am a conservative.

I think McCain is more dangerous than Hillary, and Obama is an America hater who would probably hand us over to Iran just because he could.

I don't trust McCain. He has been pompous and arrogant towards his own base, then, when he thought better about it, made a few lame promises about appointing conservative judges.

I think once he gets in office, he will do as he darn well pleases without any though WHAT-SO-EVER toward conservatives. We would be fools to believe him especially after he said he "Got it" about illegal immigration and then hired a member of La Raza on his team.

Of all the evils, Hillary is the lesser. Democrats had better check to see if H--l has frozen over. I'm sure they never in their wildest dreams thought conservatives would vote for Hillary. Here is one demographic they didn't even consider. A conservative Obamaphob who detests McCain.

What are yah gonna do?

Icedog
You took the words out of my mouth! (Actually, you were wittier than I could have been).

I especially liked this line from Will:

"I got annoyed. Half the columns here today are about Barack, Clinton & superdelegates (including one on Hillary titled "Not Quite Roadkill"), and the truth is: conservative columnists' opinions mean absolutely zilch."

I don't know about you, but if I was a leftist, I don't think I'd keep putting myself in a situation which caused so much annoyance.

What is that definition of insanity? Repeating a behavior but expecting a different result?

Will & chains
So sorry that you came onto a political website and found all the columns to be about politics!

The nerve!

sitting in a tree
It is amusing to see the convergence of right wing arguments and Clinton arguments. And I think they are justified. If Obama is at the top of the ticket I expect the democrats to do better in congressional races giving him the ability to do more when he is elected than Clinton would have with a 51% strategy. So it makes sense for the right wing to be campainging for Hilary. That is true even if they have to repeat her silly, if the election was run in a different way, but the campaign played out as it did then I would have won arguments.

It seems possible if the democrats were using a different system, then Obama would have run a campaign more designed to that system.

I'm surpirised!!!! Not.
That another faux conservative is promoting Hillary.

McCain, Clinton or Obama are all the same thing.

CFR Oligarchs.

Don't you wish Ron Paul was still running?

I Agree
I dislike the liberal media a lot more than I do the Clintons. I have been attacked on these sites for defending Hillary.
I would never vote for a Clinton but the liberal press have really showed their bias in this primary. So it's not that I want to see Hillary win. I want to see the liberal press lose.

Primus54
"What is that definition of insanity? Repeating a behavior but expecting a different result?"

That is a great phrase. I love it. Thats why I will not vote for a member of the CFR, either democrat or republican.

M Sederoff
I'm not a McCain fan either but any judge that he selects will be 100% better than a judge that Clinton would select. Do you really want another Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court? Then there's the issues of taxes and spending. I could see a conservative justify not voting for McCain if the Republicans controlled the House and Senate but that's not going to happen this election.

Until
Senator Obama has an opportunity to face Senator Clinton in Michigan and Florida, you cannot be sure that those states would vote for her. Your discussion of the popular vote is incorrect. Senator Clinton campaigned on the sly in Florida after all candidates agreed not to do so, and Senator Obama had his name removed from the Michigan ballot because the state broke party rules by having their primary too early. So the popular vote cannot include those two states.

WAKE ME UP IN NOVEMBER

.....I have stopped watching political coverage on TV ...I have reached political overload ...I don't care who gets the Democrat Nomination ...both would be a disaster ... look for race to become more and more the issue and cries of "racism" if and when Barak loses .....COLOSSUS

Primus
I’ve often had the thought that our leftist brethren might earn a shade of credibility if they would only “engage the brain, before engaging the mouth” (or fingers in this case). But of course if they were capable of coherent and rational thought...

I think I’m off to visit DailyKos and Huffington so I can voice my complete shock and dismay at all the anti-American rhetoric.

judgedredd1
It was nauseating enough listening to the constant drone of the Ron Paul disciples and their endless conspiracy theories during the Republican primaries. But now that he is been tossed to the political ash heap of history it’s really time to let it go.

Let us get things straight
First, good article John!

There is no democrat party, it is the socialist party we are dealing with. Please keep that in mind!!!!

It is good to see Boutteee, Willy boy & other idiots agreeing with you John.
Yes they are agreeing or they wouldn't be griping about "that's all you write about".

They are embarrassing themselves and the country as well.

John Hawkins, you write a good analysis.
Your "Top 10 Reasons" are accurate, well thought out, sound-minded and logical, and presented in an understandable way.

Which pretty much explains why they will be totally irrelevant to the Democrats selecting their hitperson to payback America for slavery and for 6½ years of war posture after 9/11. After all, "we have seen the enemy, and he is US," and US is much easier to fight than terrorist Is'am. Remember who the slave traders in Africa are, and have been for over 1200 years.

And to M Sederoff:

Dropping out of high school pretty much guarantees failure in life, and a good education is as good a predictor of financial success as anything except one's emotional quotient. But a good education GUARANTEES nothing, not even prosperity, which is not the same as success, as many people have learned.

There are other important factors, such as determination or not quitting after failure, attitude, health, family relationships, emotional support, physical attractiveness, holding your mouth right, a godly heritage, and being in a right relationship with the Giver of all good gifts so that He can bless you.

Icedog
Yup, that ol nauseating thing called the Constitution, would make any neocon boot licker sick.

Keep on licking, dog.

judgedredd1
Consitution making a neocon sick?

Firstly I would like your definition of a neocon as that word is thrown around like water.

Second, the libs keep saying the GOP are stomping on the constitution yet I haven't seen any proof of this. The war was voted and approved on by congress. The patriot act is also constitutional and it was voted in as well.

"Congress enacted the Patriot Act by overwhelming, bipartisan margins, arming law enforcement with new tools to detect and prevent terrorism: The USA Patriot Act was passed nearly unanimously by the Senate 98-1, and 357-66 in the House, with the support of members from across the political spectrum." complements of http://www.lifeandliberty.gov/highlights.htm

How is anything done unconstitutional? Please elaborate.

judgedredd1
"Don't you wish Ron Paul was still running?"

No. At least McCain is not for cutting and running out of Iraq or dismantling Homeland Security like Ron Paul was. And unlike, Ron Paul, McCain isn't blaming the US for 9/11.

I was with Ron Paul until he endorsed the above three things.

Reasons
But the major reason they shouldn't is this--is Obama has won more states, more delegates and perhaps the popular vote giving Hillary the nomination would be the biggest theft in party politics since Taft stole the GOP nod from Teddy in 1912.

You would anger key elements in the Democratic Party--blacks and the young, educated and rich. It is the poor, uneducated whites that support Hillary--especially poor, uneducated, old white women. If this happens, you may well have riots in the streets as some have suggested--Chicago 1968 replayed.

What you will have is many staying home and many not giving time or money to the fall. People can accept losing fairly--lots of those that supported Dean in 2004 didn't jump ship when Kerry won, but people can't accept is being cheated. So, yes, John as a GOP partisan, you should support the superdelegates giving the nod to Hillary, but if you wanted to see a Democrat win and we assume that is the case with the superdelegates, you wouldn't support political suicide.

This week Obama picked up three more of them to Hillary's one.

Oh and John what is this fetish with numbers? You sound like some old Chinese communist or something--the four pests, the four modernizations, the hundred flowers, etc.

Judgered1
I read your 11:19 post avidly- it took a long time as it was difficult to digest the cogent but deeply thought out political positions.
Your take on that influential splinter group of the Republican party was very interesting.
Could you flesh out that Neocon thing for me?
I'm not sure what their worldview is exactly.
Thank you for your allegiance to the constitution -you obviously have studied it in depth.

Dems will vote as many times as it takes
So much for every vote counts, the Dems make sure every vote counts as many times as necessary for the desired outcome.

This knock down drag out between Clingon and Obmammy is great theater. It's been a long time since I saw a side show, with puppets, this good!

I just love it when a plan falls apart (for the Dems). If they choose Obmammy he will lose big time with his racial/radical associations, if they choose Clingon, her negatives are so high she starts the race running the wrong way for 3 of 4 laps...

phil and CKHustler
1. CKHustler, I love you with all the cristian charity one can muster, for the ignorant.

2. phil it is good to see that you are back. Are you again being paid by the Romney Campaign, to blog on the republican websites. I have noticed, a few other of my Mormon brothers are back in force, now that Mitt is going for VP. It has been lonely here without you guys.

Well to answer your question a "Neocon" is,

1 : a former liberal espousing political conservatism.

2 : a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and United States national interest in international affairs including through military means.

Now that is from the Merriam Webster Dictionary. What it fails to mention is, that the USA is a republic and not a democracy. So neocons are spreading something, that is un American and foriegn to our form of government.

A Brilliant Idea for Hillary
Since Obama, the man who wants to be leader of the most powerful country and the most powerful military, is too scared to do a debate anymore, then Hillary needs to play on this.

Hillary should be showering every network with love before the NC primaries, and allow them to give her interviews, heck, she can even do a one woman show.

Obama will get no air time for any type of debate because he chose this, and still Hillary can run on the air live and play on Obama's cowardice without batting an eyelash. Let her do a Q & A live.

She really needs to build up how she can take the heat and smile while Obama frowns in the corner like a child.

judgedredd1
As phil and CKHustler have pointed out...the term "neocon" has no common definition.

"Neo-conservatism is a term almost exclusively used by the enemies of America's liberation of Iraq. There is no 'neo-conservative' movement in the United States. When there was one, it was made up of former Democrats who embraced the welfare state but supported Ronald Reagan's Cold War policies against the Soviet bloc. Today 'neo-conservatism' identifies those who believe in an aggressive policy against radical Islam and the global terrorists."
David Horowitz

So, judgedredd, are you soft on terrorists or are you a neocon?

10 reasons why Hillary should win
Hawkins its impossible for Hillary to win in terms of numbers, you like she is asking the democrates to give it to her because she feels entitled. We Dems and Independents vote for something the Republicans vote against something. You would rather see Hillary because joh mccain has no strategy against Obama except race and that would make you all look like racist.

That would be fun to watch if I voted was against something.

Shells
I think Hillary should agree to the debate by herself. Just imagine, two podiums on a stage...one labeled "Senator Clinton" and the other "Senator Obama"....every time Clinton answers a question the camera can pan to the empty and silent podium across the stage.

Cold nosed crotch sniffer
The term neocon came about in 1954.

RadhaKrishna
Congrats!! You have just won "Lib Line of the Day"!!

"joh mccain (sic) has no strategy against Obama except race and that would make you all look like racist (sic)."

I hate to declare a winner so early in the day, but I don't see this line being topped. You should receive your trophy within 7-10 business days.

Cold nosed crotch sniffer
Sorry, it was 1952.

dredd
Actually dumb*ss, the term was first used in 1883 by an English journalist named Henry Dunckley. However, its meaning has changed numerous times.

If you want to try to slam on posters here without taking the time to learn what the hell you are talking about, this is definitely the wrong site for you....I recommend DailyKos, you *might* be able to hold your own.

moonbats
it's funny the number of Left wing nuts that hang out here and tell everyone how pointless the article's are. Why don't you get yourself a nice class of coolaid and go back to the huffpost. I'm sorry if we made you cry.

Cold nose crotch sniffer
Gee Icy Doggy, I hope you read the whole thing, it certainly is not American. Ok, 1883 and it looks like nothing has changed. A neocon then, is the same as a neocon today. A group of oligarch elite leftists, pretending to be conservatives, by infiltrating political parties to promote a globalist empire.

So many of the names mentioned, were also supporters of Hitler, eugenics, etc.. Hey, wasn't Dubya's grandfater involved with financing Hitler, according to the US Congress he was. Cause they shut his arse down and seized his business and funds.

"The neoconservative desire to spread democracy abroad has been likened to the Trotskyist theory of permanent revolution."

"Trotskyism is the theory of Marxism as advocated by Leon Trotsky."

Hmmmmmm, yup still the same.

Super article! - moonbats II
Yeah, the left are so full of themselves. The whole word gets to peel back the layers are view the intolerance, hypocrisy, racism, shallowness, sliminess, ignorance and plain ol' silliness of the left.

It's beautiful watching them stumble all over themselves. I also sense we are getting closer to the Clinton slip up about race. My advice to the Clinton's "free yourself and let it out."

Ha ha ha !
"The neoconservative desire to spread democracy abroad has been likened to the Trotskyist theory of permanent revolution."

"Trotskyism is the theory of Marxism as advocated by Leon Trotsky."

And you un American neocon traitors say I'm a liberal, Ha ha ah ah a ha ha ha hah! The jokes on you!

Who?
Who in the DNC initially backed BO as a candidate for POTUS? I can't find anything on this. Must've been someone powerful because his thin resume could not have done the trick.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about the 'Bradley Effect.' Why must anyone who has any negative view on BO be labeled as racist? Isn't it possible there are those of us who firmly believe he just doesn't have the chops to do the job? Maybe he will when he has more experience under his belt. But I don't see it happening now. He can't even debate an opponent...how in the world is he going to be able to hold his own with world leaders?

Obama: Humble yourself or God will do it
If you don't humble yourself--God will do it for you.

Yes, Hillary totally had an entitlement attitude for the nomination...AT FIRST. It was despicable. And the American public blasted her for it and she was humiliated. But she changed her tune, humbled herself and rolled up her sleeves and got to work, and her yielding the working class blue collar workers is proof of that. When one repents, God forgives; and Americans forgive.

Now, let's look at Obama, the proud, arrogant peacock. He refuses to humble himself. That is beneath him, what he’d call "slave mentality." He doesn't know that to be a president or any government leader you are in fact only a SERVANT of the American people. To Obama, serving means working in the capacity of, but NOT BEING A SERVANT. He will have none of THAT.

I don't care what the numbers or threats from the black or leftist communities are, he will NOT get the nomination, mainly because he refuses to humble himself. Sound too simple? Perhaps, but it's TRUE. The #1 sin God despises is PRIDE. In fact God says He doesn’t even like a “proud look.” Remember, PRIDE was Lucifer’s sin.

If you get in bed with the devil you got to put out...if you don't you'll be raped and then thrown to the curb bleeding and beaten. Obama got into bed with his black power church and pastor and THAT was his foundation of his campaign and got him his jumpstart. He embraced his followers worshipping him. Then, instead of humbling himself and apologizing wholeheartedly, he justified his indefensible church and pastor and hid behind the name of Jesus and "uniting." In fact, this “foundation” is exactly what will do him in: Specifically: REV. WRIGHT.

Obama just wants to be president. He will never become a servant of the very people he despises (white, working class blue collar Americans); he still has issues about the color of his skin and would never consider being a “servant” to anyone.

This one is as much of John's are
"it's funny the number of Left wing nuts that hang out here and tell everyone how pointless the article's are."

But in this case, it is. The superdelegates picking Hillary when Obama had more states won, more delegates and at the end maybe more raw vote would cause a civil war in the party--yes for John and many here that is a good thing, but the superdelegates we assume want to see John McCain lose in the fall.

This one is as much of Akagi's are
It's nice of you to pick up the moonbat flag and run with it!

In case you haven't watched the news I think Hillary won the last one big. If this contest was a 60% 40% for Obama I'd agree with you, but at this late stage in the game it's 50.25% to 49.75% with Obama fading.
If by your argument the superdelegates want McCain to lose, then they should vote for who they think will win against him.

We must unite
You get more of what you vote for - vote third party if your not inline with McCain. I have to vote my values so I'm looking at this person right now and I ask for you to take a look him as well.
You can check out his website,http://frankforpresident.org/

as well as the party's site, http://newamericanindependent.com/

also here http://www.firesociety.com/article/23926/My-Presidential-C ampaign/

All I ask it to check him out for yourself – people we need to unite behind a true conservative.

The view from Holland

"We in Holland cannot figure out why you are even bothering to hold an election.

On one side, you have a b*tch who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer, and a lawyer who is married to a b*tch who is a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a true war hero married to a woman with a huge chest who owns a beer distributorship.

Is there a contest here? "

I consider Obama to be far more
dangerous than Hillary although they are both radical and crazy. Hillary on occasion, may do the right thing while Obama is simply incapable of it. He is the real Manchurian Candidate. He even voted in favor of infanticide. When is he going to have his chat with the Iranian dictator? He would appoint Jimmah Carter as his secretary of state. go, McCain!

Icedog
You bring up a hysterical scenario! Hillary on stage by herself, two podiums. SNL should do this!

But really, she should keep on telling those who interview her loud and proud that she wants to debate, she believes the people of NC and America deserve to learn more about who they are voting for...

The question behind this will be, "But, will Obama show up?"

People will draw their own conclusions: cowardly, petty, weak, has something to hide, evasive, can't take the pressure, doesn't care enough about the public to make an appearance and debate, etc....

Dang, if I didn't dislike Hillary so much, I should've worked on her campaign. At least she pays her people.

My head is Spinning
Hillary is more of a threat than Obama, plus if McCain beats Obama now he will be damaged goods in 2012 and Hillary will be too old. If Hillary gets the nom Obama will be back one way or the other in 2012. If Obama wins the Presidency now he will be totally ineffective. Congress will keep him in a straightjacket - and even the Republican wimps may decide that enough is enough and stand up to him. Whereas Hillary has shown the ability to bulldoze over any Republican.

Rebbe Tevye
The whole fun of reading at Townhall and RCP is to enjoy the cogent arguments of the political commentators, articulately expressed, and reaching diametrically opposite conclusions. I'd love to hear Rebbe Tevye chiming in:

(1) "Sen. Obama is going to be blown out like McGovern in '72. He's a far left idealogue, all rhetoric and no substance, with a glass jaw and colleagues that make patriotic Americans cringe. He hasn't been vetted and is a foreign policy neophyte, and an ignorant one to boot. He can't carry the blue-collar Reagan Democrats, and is weak in all the swing states. His strength in the general election polls is dubious, and overstated by 5 or 10 points due to the Bradley effect.

He has big ears and eats like a sissy. Come on, even anorexic supermodels don't eat arugula.

Sen. McCain is going to wipe the floor with this guy."

Tevye: "You are right!"

(2) "Sen. McCain has no hope. He is hated by his own base and can't raise money. He's barely holding his own in the general election polling, with Sens. Clinton and Obama in the middle of a civil war. Once the Democrats settle on a nominee, they'll unite and start hitting Sen. McCain hard, and take a 10 point lead. He's too old and the centerpiece of his campaign is refusal to end a disastrous war opposed by 2/3 of the American people. The economy is in a shambles, the Republicans are to blame, and he's admittedly clueless on economic policy. He has no appeal as a "maverick," as he's sold out to far right and flip-flopped on issues from taxes to immigration reform.

Sen. Obama is the new JFK, and he's going to beat Sen. McCain worse than JFK would have beaten (and LBJ did beat) Goldwater in 1964."

Tevye: "You are right."

(3) They can't both be right.

Tevye: "You, too, are right!"

I read McEnulty`s info today and find him very attractive as a candidate. His problem of course is obscurity. Well, that`s his initial problem. Ron Paul, who has similar ideas, is an established Republican, sits in Congress, had money, fanatic loyalists, and press recognition. He got 5% of the vote. So maybe only 5% of us really get it.

Hillary
A few weeks ago, Hillary was up by 20 there and won by less than 10 (9. something). He'll blow her out in NC and Oregon. At the end of the day if he is ahead in the delegates and the superdelegates bolts to Hillary, expect civil war in the party if not actual riots.

Here is the Problem
Hillary could win the Presidency.

Obama is an inexperienced, extremist wimp.

If either one of these fruitcakes win, we can kiss our posteriors good-bye.

mensheviks and bolsheviks
when i was younger, i voted for democrats.
they told me that all the problems were on the republicans. i believed, believe it or not.
if i only had a brain.

i grew older and voted republican. they told me that all the problems were on the democrats. i believed.
if i only had a heart.

i now will never vote for this 2 party fraud as
i came to realize that both parties were 100% right.

i now only have a spleen for the 2 party fraud which runs this country.
3rd parties should stop trying to get into the white house and start at a more local level to build a viable and steady base of voters.

this november - heads or tails?

Please, get your facts straight about the PA polling. You can see all the PA poll results and averages at http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/pa/ pennsylvania_democratic_primary-240.html

Sen. Clinton led by about 9 points in late February and early March. Her lead increased to about 16 points after she won OH and TX. It declined precipitously to about 5 points at the very end of March, after "Snipergate." The poll averages then showed her with a steady 5-7 point lead from about April 1 until the primary on April 22.

This raises an important point: As the polls showed, "Snipergate" was extremely damaging to Sen. Clinton. Rightfully so, as she was caught in a bald-faced lie on an important subject.

Perhaps her victory shows that Sen. Obama was even more damaged by "Pastorgate," "Bittergate," and the Ayers story ("Bombergate," perhaps?).

no votes for oil! :)
Sen. Barack Obama continued accepting donations from oil company executives and employees last month even as he aired ads in which he stated he took no oil company money, his campaign finance reports show.

Obama has taken at least $263,000 from oil company executives, family members and employees since entering the presidential race last year, including $46,000 last month. At least $140,000 has come in chunks of between $1,000 and $2,300, the maximum permitted under federal law.

Texas oil executive Robert L. Cavnar of Milagro Exploration and his wife, Gracie, have helped the Illinois Democrat raise at least another $50,000 by helping host a fundraiser earlier in the campaign.

Darn right-wing LA Times!

the dims and the oblahma
the problem for the dims is that the msm has become the water carriers for the dims. Having turned their back on the clintons to switch their loyalty and allegiance to their new love interest the oblahma.

Had the msm done their job in the first place and fully vetted the oblahma much of the anquish over the candidates would have been resolved. But the media has invested everything in the oblahma and even though he is becoming damaged goods they are still standing by their man.

The right has been saying for the past year the oblahma had an empty resume and an even emptier campaign. But as more baggage comes to light it appears the oblahma may be the weakest candidate the dims have fronted for the past 50 years.

The left may still fall for his empty campaign of hope and change but the right and the working folks of america know the oblahma is nothing more than a snake oil salesman and lacks everything to be president. Being the affirmative action candidate may work for the left, it won't work for america

"But as more baggage comes to light it appears the oblahma may be the weakest candidate the dims have fronted for the past 50 years."

That is really saying something when you consider the past dem candidates....but I completely agree. I just wonder if the dems and the MSM will learn anything from this experience or if they'll just fall back on the standard "right wing attack machine got him" garbage...

Fivo
(1) So is everyone associated with an oil company now a second-class citizen, to be shunned and outcast? Not heard from in public? And with their money returned when they want to participate in the political process?

(2) Further, given the amounts that Sen. Obama has raised, the figures you cite are an absurdly small drop in the bucket. Didn't he raise something like $45 million in the first quarter alone? Accepting the figures on your post, it looks like less than 0.5% had "oil company" connections.

(3) The oil companies are not the problem. They're in a competitive business trying to make money, and providing a vital commodity. The real long-term problems are: (a) Congress preventing development of available US oil resources; (b) both Congress and local governments preventing the construction of new refineries; (c) OPEC using monopoly power to restrict production and drive up prices; (d) the weak dollar; and (e) worldwide increases in demand.

There are many causes for short-term price flucutuations, including weather (remember Katrina?) and political unrest in major oil producing countries.

10 reasons super delegates Should pick
Clinton over Obama. Mr. Hawkins gives logical, real, and reasonable reasons the Super Delegates should exercise their responsbility and pick Hillary Clinton for the Democratic Nominee.

But Obama's aleady labelled that conclusion as "stealing the nomination" if the supers don't join the Obama plurality and nominate Obama. In addition, we already hear mutterings about demonstrating in Denver, and "racism" at work to keep the nomination from Obama. The Democrats are traumatized by the very possibility that black voters will abandon the party or stay home if Obama is not nominated.

They also know this. If Obama is the nominee, as soon as he gets the nomination, intimidation of Republicans and voters in general will begin. There will be threats of demonstrations and open accusations of you are a racist if you don't elect Obama. The Obama campaign is betting the democrats will be cowed by these strategies, and so will the Republicans, and beyond them, the voting public as well.

If we can abstract anything from McCain's call for the NC Republican party to pull a perfectly decent, factual, and effective ad connecting Barack, Jeremiah Wright, and NC congressmen who have endorsed Obama, it is that Obama's strategy is working real well on the McCain organization already.

No one it appears, will stand up for the truth, or against the impending strategy of intimidation by Barack Obama against our nation's voters.

Libs and Paul People
Late to this thread but can't help but notice that (1) the libs are always here on a conservative website telling the conservatives the columns are irrelevant. Why? If it is meaningless to you, give it up, don't even bother to waste your time reading it or commenting. (2) The bitterest, nastiest, most vitriolic posters on this site seem to be (not always, but there is and has been a trend) some of the Ron Paul people.

Is Obama too much competition?
McCain could send Hillary 'back to the kitchen' easier than he could beat Obama. Does that have anything to do with you hoping Hillary gets the nomination? There's NOT much of a choice if it comes down to McCain vs Hillary. In fact, think Hillary would vote for McCain in November should Obama get the Democratic nomination. Obama done went & gotter mad y'know...
