"The Obama campaign seems dangerously close to becoming a cult of personality." -- Paul Krugman

If even Paul Krugman is willing to publicly admit that Barack Obama is a human featherball -- a slick, smiling, substance-free empty suit who excites gullible dimwits by repeating the words “change,” “unity,” and “hope” over and over -- then who am I, a mere conservative blogger, to disagree?

But, is being black, charismatic, and having a good voice enough to qualify a man to be President of the United States? If so, maybe the GOP should see if we can get James Earl Jones or the Rock to run as McCain's veep. They're both charismatic, they're both black, and as an added bonus, neither of them is significantly less qualified to be President of the United States than Barack Obama.

Remember when they used to say that Dan Quayle -- a man who was in the National Guard, served 3 terms in the House, and was elected to the Senate twice before he was selected as Vice President -- was too inexperienced to be considered for the job? Yet, now that Barack Obama is running for President, in a post-9/11 world no less, he's being treated as if he's qualified to be President.

The reality is that Obama has a lot in common with Harriet Miers. Yes, he has accomplished a lot in his life compared to most people, just as she had, but she was still completely unqualified for the job she wanted to fill just as Barack Obama is completely unqualified to be President of the United States.

Of course, Barack can't afford to wait around and get some seasoning because in another term or two, his incredibly liberal voting record in the Senate would make him unelectable. He is, after all, the single most liberal senator in the entire Senate. Do you realize what that means? It means that Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, and Chuck Schumer are all to Barack Obama's RIGHT.

Incidentally, this is what Democrats mean by change: the ideas of Jimmy Carter, Ted Kennedy, and Dennis Kucinich being mouthed by a young, black man instead of an old, white man. It's sort of like the Democratic idea of diversity, which encompasses a white man, a white woman, and a black man espousing the exact same liberal ideas. But, before it's too late, maybe some of Barack Obama's supporters should try to pin him down on exactly what kind of "changes" he supports before he gets into office and pushes a trillion dollar tax hike, partial birth abortion, and giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. My guess is that isn't exactly the sort of "change" that most of the country is hoping for.

Along similar lines, how exactly is someone as far off to the Left as Rush Limbaugh is to the Right, going to be able to unify the country? Heck, Barack Obama can't even unify liberals. His supporters are calling the Clinton backers racists, Hillary's fans are claiming Barack's voters hate women, you have liberals threatening to leave the Democratic Party if the Democratic super delegates don't vote for Barack -- and we're talking about people who generally agree with each other on just about everything. What happens when Barack Obama, a man who has written that he favors outlawing handguns, is against the death penalty, and deliberately favors losing the war in Iraq for political purposes, has to "unify" liberals and conservatives? Now, you may say, "The Right and Left are too far apart in this country to be unified and nobody could pull it off," which could turn out to be true. However, don't tell me that – tell Obama, because unifying the country is a central part of his campaign and he's asking people to vote for him on that basis.

Then there's Barack's constant talk about "hope," which shows you just what a bunch of sad sacks are buying into O'Bambi's fast talk. Keep in mind: we don't live in Sudan, Mexico, Afghanistan, Belarus or some other hellhole where the biggest hope most people have is to leave; we live in the United States of America. Millions of people come here every year and millions more are waiting to get here because this country represents hope and opportunity to people across the world. So, if you're the sort of person who is in the United States, is hopeless, and believes that Barack Obama is going to bring you hope through the same federal government that is responsible for FEMA, the IRS, and ICE, then there may truly be no "hope" for you.

With that in mind, before we elect one of the single least qualified Presidents in the history of the United States to foist a Ted Kennedyesque vision of government on the country, maybe people should start asking a few tough questions instead of cooing like pigeons because Barack Obama keeps spewing out the sort of substance-less pap you typically expect to see on Hallmark cards.

Obama the Human "Hallmark Card"
for president?

Well, at least we're getting rid of George W. Bush, the Poster Child for Al-Qaeda recruitment (Bin Laden will be sorry to see GWB go....he was the biggest single recruiter in Bin Laden's operation).

And after 8 years of such a disasterous con-man, trust me, we can all use a little cheering up. Bring on the sweet rhetoric Barack.

?
Does this article really compare Obama with Harriet Miers and Rush Limbaugh?

The Lost Art of Oration
I don't know if it is because we have microphones, so that politicians can speak publically without raising their voices, but the Boomers and Pre-Boomers are generally the sorriest crop of orators I have seen.

Let's look back on past politicians: Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher.

Now we have a bunch of guys who speak OK, but don't know how to deliver a stirring talk.

Because of this, Barak Obama looks insurmountable. I keep hearing people say what a great speaker he is. I think he is a good speaker, but compared to Reagan, not so much.

But then I listen to our guys speak, and they are much less impressive.

So I have to ask this question: when people go to politician school, or lawyer school, or where ever they get their training, do they no longer offer courses on public speaking? How about classes on diction?

This is why, everytime I used to hear Tony Blair speak, I used to wish he could run for President here.

If your son or daughter is thinking about running for public office, here's a suggestion: buy them voice lessons.

Rush is far right?
Only in relation to Obama.
I would call him simply a conservative. Which is where I would say most people in the world reside. They just dont all know it.

Will
Please. These people are willing to blow themselves up to kill a few nonbelievers. Do you really think GWB did that? If you do I've got a couple of Democrat presidential candidates to sell you.

Will
Please. These people are willing to blow themselves up to kill a few nonbelievers. Do you really think GWB did that? If you do I've got a bridge and a couple of Democrat presidential candidates for sale.

Barack does his own speech writing
largely.

I think comparisons with Ronald Reagan aren't particularly apt. Reagan was a trained actor. Reagan read other people's words. Peggy Noonan wrote a lot of his scripts. (Peggy Noonan wrote Reagan's address to the nation when the Challenger exploded: "slipped the surly bonds of earth...& touched the face of God". Noonan also wrote much of George H.W. Bush's material including "a thousand points of light", "a kinder gentler nation", "Read my lips: No taxes")

Barack writes from his own experiences like Dr. King. Obama's poetic rhetoric & oratory soars alongside the best of our political past; this is how a nation dreams. In such a time as ours where the populace desperately needs to slip the surly bonds of George W. Bush & touch real hope & inspired leadership again.

House of Cards

Mr. Hussein will fold like a house of cards when he gets placed under the microscope and has to talk real shop about economics and our future.

Empty Rhetoric

“touch real hope & inspired leadership again.” … will

Hope and inspiration is empty rhetoric when NO facts are divulged.

The joke's on America
Question: What's worse than eight years of George W. Bush as president?

Answer: Eight years of George W. Bush followed by eight years of either Hillary, Obama or McCain.

The best presidential candidate is already out of the race. That would be Mitt Romney. He is out because he did not have a gimmick. He is not a woman like Hillary, half African-American like Obama or a "war hero" like McCain.

Romney was merely well-spoken, intelligent, competent, successful and a family man with high moral values. Today, unfortunately, those kinds of qualities are too boring to land you a spot in the White House. Considering what we're left with -- especially Obama -- it's a sad, sad time for America.

The Manchurian Candidate
Mr. Hawkins article is one of the clearest perspectives yet on Elmer (Gantry) I've read yet.... Barry is certainly no General Powell, his church is not Martin Luther King's....

Obama's rhetoric is not doom and gloom
Whens the last time you've heard a liberal like Obama speak. You haven't and neither have Obama's supporters. On talk radio there are a lot of liberal listeners, because even liberals get tired of listening to doom and gloom all the time. Only this time, listener's don't have to tune into Conservative radio to hear about change and hope for a brighter tomorrow. They have Obama. Hillary on the other hand is too old school to promise anything other if she gets the Presidency, there won't be any more of Bill Clinton scandals. Wow! Obama has even quoted Reagan who had gotten him criticized by the hard core old school liberals, for trying to pass on Conservative ideas. Obama speaks like an American and not like a liberal Democrat. If there's one thing Obama has learned, is how to serve liberal cake with Conservative icing with a little Reagan thrown in for good measures.

Obama's Hope
To "Will" and others who have such disdain for the sitting president: Enough! The past 7 years are gone - we have the opportunity to write a new chapter of true conservative ideals. That will not be accomplished as long as Republicans waste time throwing nasty spit-balls at each other. UNITE or crumble into dust. That is our fate. As for Obama and his "message of hope"... It sounds wonderful - inspiring - uplifting - on and on (even to my conservative ears). But I am old enough to recall FDR's call for "hope" in the 30's. Though too young to understand it, I picked up the enthusiasm and, yes, hope in the people who were struggling in a terrible world-wide depression. The country bought it and the "milking of America" began.
Hope is more than a word. For many struggling Americans today any ray of hope that will lighten their burden is one they will seek, support and vote for. Obama is beginning to outline his program. It is one the Democrats have espoused since FDR introduced the NRA. Those who take the time to read this rambling offering may wonder - so what? I say, let us begin a massive letters to the editor campaign - quoting from B.O.'s actual record (all truths from his own mouth). Start a real debate in the public arena. I must admit Mr. O does have a way with his oratory and has been noted before he is handsome, young, intelligent, articulate (that is a very good descriptive word and should not offend anyone)and most important to me, UNQUALIFIED!
The Robin Hood syndrome has strangled the economy, raised several generations of unskilled, and uneducated citizens who rely on government dole. NO MORE!!! It is time to break the cycle - teach people to be self-sufficient, responsible, respectful and reliable.
I pray my grandchildren's generation will be better prepared.

McLame Hater...
I'm utterly and completely with you on Romney.
Of course any citizen is permitted to decide on what basis to vote for a candidate, so for the evangelicals & others to choose ONE thing - Romney's religion - on which to make a decision, may be dumb but dumb is permitted.

I'd like to press him into service anyway.

Bly
Actually Rush is just a conservative comedian. Jon Stewart is a liberal version. Rush is the equivalent of Howard Stern for the right. Except you think he's serious.

Smoke and Mirrors
The people who like Osama are the people who want the gummit to take care of them. Tha's their hope. I live in IL and he has done nothing for us. We say get him out of IL and let him try to screw up the rest of the country. Without a doubt he is all rhetoric but no substance.

Jumpin on the Kool Aide Bandwagon..
I have a delusion.... it's baseless, but its so rediculously "inspirational".. what else really matters?
Since we seem to be living in a political La La land, is there an antidote for being Obamatized, while there is still time.. only the survival of our country, and our childrens' future is at stake..

Gullible dimwits
An apt phrase to describe supporters of big government generally and Obama supporters in particular.

"Change, hope, unity," and "speaking with one voice" is precisely what every dictator preaches. Of course, the "unity" envisioned is that of a team of oxen under one whip - his. How dumb do you have to be to think that allowing only one voice is what America is about?

The facts don't lie. Looking past the empty buzz-words, Obama's actual voting record reveals him to be the biggest knee-jerk, reflexively non-analytical, least thoughtful member of the Senate. That takes some doing!

Obama's "great oratory" is wildly overrated (unless you're a fan of Ted Baxter). Being generous, he gets a "100" for style, but a "0" for content. That averages out to "50" which earns him an "F."

Mike
When Obama ran for State Senator in Illinois he got 70% of the vote. He did very well in Southern Illinois, where you say you live. Possibly you voted for Alan Keyes, who got 27%. Bad luck, Mike. Next time try backing a winner.

Props to gramms
"The Robin Hood syndrome has strangled the economy, raised several generations of unskilled, and uneducated citizens who rely on government dole. NO MORE!!! It is time to break the cycle - teach people to be self-sufficient, responsible, respectful and reliable."

This is the change America needs and not the same ole talk, talk in a different package!

Jimmy Carter
I have said it before. B.O. is another Carter. All talk and "no beef". Look back and remember the '70s. Can't get worse? Yes it can.

Scorecard
This morning, counting 27 articles on townhall, I made a rough count of how many are "McCain, good", how many are "Hillary, bad", and how many are "Obama, worse". Obama won. Does that mean you-all now find him more threatening than you do Hillary? Not a bad accomplishment for an empty suit with nothing to say who is a mediocre speaker and has never done anything and has had everything handed to him by guilty white liberals via Affirmative Action. Not bad at all.

John Hawkins "Sad Sack", "dimwit"?
>"a slick, smiling, substance-free empty suit

No you are a certified gullible dimwit jerk, but you know that.

>Then there's Barack's constant talk
>about "hope," which shows you just what a bunch
>of sad sacks are buying into O'Bambi's fast
>talk.

"Sad Sacks" Last I checked this is America for the People. Typical conservative, whose ego and own reflection arouses them, who thinks only they know, they, the "superior race", the ultimate solution to “sad sacks”."

>"[If you're so hopeless the] federal government
>that is responsible for FEMA, the IRS, and ICE,
>[can bring you hope] then there may truly be
>no "hope" for you."

Tell that to the people who suffered & died needlessly in New Orleans after Katrina, while Bush did a fly over and “Brownie” could not be bothered while having dinner. Heck of a job. Three words that people find hope in, purging anything that has the stink of George W. Bush and the GOP. I'm just saying. People HATE the Republicans who gave us Gee-Dub-a-U. Only an idiot would say Iraq was the right choice. No one to blame but BUSH and his party.

>maybe people should start asking a few tough

Ask away. IT’S YOU THAT HAS NO SUBSTANCE. You have asked nothing factual but throw out weird innuendos. Oh no, the Boogie MAN, it’s a democrat, a liberal! Typical VOTE GOP or bad things will happen fear mongering. Get a new act.

Topgun says:
"Mr. Hussein will fold like a house of cards when he gets placed under the microscope and has to talk real shop about economics and our future."

Against McCain's 100 year occupation? Against his call for endless war?

Can you imagine the debate - it's Nixon/Kennedy all over again - except this time, Nixon looks to be 1000 Years old - and Obama will run circles around him...

Obama is a politician trained in the hardscrabble of Chicago politics - this is from the Tribune - the conservative paper out there:

"But in that initial bid for political office, Obama quickly mastered the bare-knuckle arts of Chicago electoral politics. His overwhelming legal onslaught signaled his impatience to gain office, even if that meant elbowing aside an elder stateswoman like Palmer."

If you think this Harvard-trained attorney won't come to the fight prepared, you're underestimating this guy...

John Hawkins "Sad Sack", "dimwit" 2
>Barack Obama, has written that he favors >outlawing handguns, is against the death >penalty, and deliberately favors losing the war >in Iraq for political purposes, has to "unify" >liberals and conservatives?

The LIES start. Iraq, You didn't hear? "Mission Accomplished", "Surge" is a success, Saddam & Sons dead, Gov elected, flag selected, Al Qaeda routed. The Iraqis HATE Al Qaeda as much as they hate America. They'll never allow them to invade & occupy Iraq. YOU'RE A LIAR. We’re done! We’ll go bankrupt if we don't leave. 30 to 40 dead & $9 billion month, $1.5 trillion spend so far and 100,000's other dead & wounded. GOP, fiscal conservatives? I don’t think so.

>"The Right and Left are too far apart in this

>off. Don't tell me that – tell Obama, because
>unifying the country is a central part of his

Well not a jerk like you. You're so far right, you're useless. No one cares what you think, because you DON'T THINK. You just say liberal BAD, Dem BAD, me no neck blogger, me right, me love Rush, and you repeat it over again.

>It means that Ted Kennedy, Dick Durbin, and
>Chuck Schumer are all to Barack Obama's RIGHT.

Oh no high woman and children, the liberals are in town!

>The reality is that Obama has a lot in common
>with Harriet Miers. She was completely
>unqualified for the job. Barack Obama is
>completely unqualified to be President.

So you admit that Bush, who was a failure at everything, cocaine snort'er, DUI recipient and drunk till age 40, was unqualified, as was all his appointments: Miers, Gonzalez, Brownie, Rumsfeld (long list), all unqualified and chosen on cronyism. The difference is the PEOPLE are choosing Obama.

Rick C asks:
"I have said it before. B.O. is another Carter. All talk and "no beef". Look back and remember the '70s. Can't get worse? Yes it can. "

It did - we had a Republican President and Congress and then came 9/11...

You think people won't remember who was in charge on that day?

They're all Dreaming
Bush had all of 4 years of experience working with the democratic legislature in Texas before he started running for President, and Lincoln had exactly 2 years in the Congress. If experience in Washington politics was the only issue, neither would have been elected. At the same time, the issue is not merely hope, the issue is that none of the major candidates will accomplish much in the next 4 years, no matter how they talk. Gramm seems to believe that there is some great conservative out there who will do something meaningful to save the country. Of course, today the GOP in the congress appointed a died in the wool Alabama porker to the Appropriations committee, not Jeff Flake, a budget hawk. Which just about says it all. Both sides of the aisle in Congress see the budget as their personal check book. America is changing. We are moving from a Western culture to one based on diversity as people flood into this country from the South, we are losing our sovreignity and independence of action as we have become reliant on the world both for much of what we consume and for the money to finance our deficits, and the power and control of the central government systematically expands as a large majority of the people, including many republicans, now look to Washington for all their solutions.

Whether you vote for McCain, Obama or Hillary, none of this will change. Conservatives who believe in smaller government, fiscal responsibility, a rational and enforceable immigration policy, and a strong and independent America are no more realistic than Obama is. They're all dreaming.

Say NO to BO
Vote for McCain in Nov.

Washington stinks enough as it is already.

OBAMA has yet to debate anyone except
his female twin, Hillary. I saw this empty suit debate Allen Keyes for the IL US Senate seat. It was Keyes vs OB + and OBAMA looked and sounded like a 10 year old. He is another empty suit that has been coaxed into easy to win offices by the all Socialist Party hacks of IL.

JOHN
I noticed, that the word "SLIM" was not in your descriptions of Mr. Obama.I can understand why!As a so called conservative, you appear to have missed the latest summaries of the Obama supporters. Most of them are; young,well-educated,and affluent. The essence of Mr. Obama's campaign, rest not in the fact, that he may "WIN".But it rest in the fact, that his supporters have taken CONTROL of the process! These young people are the "FUTURE" and they are in CONTROL.How will the conservative base get this CONTROL back?Mr. Obama is a small problem, compared to your larger dilemma. He can only serve 8 years. What about the next 50?I am so glad, I went to school overseas!!!

Lincoln - Less Gettysburg
Garry Wills wrote the Pulitzer Prize winning "Lincoln at Gettysburg," subtitled "The Words That Remade America." Barack Obama is using words that are remaking America. The analogy is not lost....
http://thefiresidepost.com/2008/02/15/lincoln-less-gettysbu rg/

MiliDoggg
And thanks to Bill Clinton for sitting on his rearend and doing absolutely nothing about Bin Laden, even after the first WTC attack, the embassy bombings and the USS Cole. Oh yeah, and remember Somalia?

If you think AQ started planning 9/11 the moment Bush entered office, you are quite ignorant.

Clinton had a number of opportunities to capture/kill OBL. The Sudanese government even offered to hand him over. He did nothing, and 9/11 may have just be another day of the year because of he didn't.

It is sickening to listen to you liberals try to pin terrorism on Bush. It just like when you call Bush a liar because he said Saddam had WMDs and criticized him for calling regime change. There were many democrats saying the same things before Bush was even running for President.

I am sure OBL is just waiting for a democrat to get into office. He knows their stance on protecting this country.

Will, check your facts

From that bastion of conservative thought , the Huffingtom Post

Looks like he has a White speechwriter, hallelujah for diversity.

Quayle was a complete idiot
I'll never forget the way Bentsen dressed him down -- like a deer in the headlights.

Obama is at least intelligent, which is more than we can say about the Harvard MBA we have in the Oval Office today. Moreover, he wasn't a legacy who just skated by, as the man from Bendover was.

Even if he doesn't talk specifics, he's better than wretched vessels like mcCon, who has had his head up Bush's rodent's biblical transport for so long that his brains have become pickled.

Keyes is a real intellectual
Vaquero wrote:

"I saw this empty suit debate Allen (sic) Keyes for the IL US Senate seat. It was Keyes vs OB + and OBAMA looked and sounded like a 10 year old. He is another empty suit that has been coaxed into easy to win offices by the all Socialist Party hacks of IL."

Hardly a surprise. A lot of us will pretty pale next to Alan Keyes, actually, but especially Obama. Keyes is a genuine, original thinker.

Of course, Obama is by far the better politician, so the difference in intellectual substance made no difference to the voters. Keyes apparently has scruples against running a campaign like a politician, and instead presented himself pretty much exactly as he is. The result was a landslide for Obama.

Beastie Boy illustrates the problem
Beastie Boy responds to Hawkins' revival of Dan Quayle, a man who was, unlike Obama, actually equal to the job of President, with this indication of what America is up against:

"Quayle was a complete idiot. I'll never forget the way Bentsen dressed him down -- like a deer in the headlights."

What BB here remembers as proving that Quayle was a "complete idiot" was a 5-second sound bite launched against a small mistake in the Republican campaign strategy, comparing Quayle to Jack Kennedy. Bentsen said "I knew Jack Kennedy, and you're no Jack Kennedy."

Actually, it's a good thing Quayle was no Jack Kennedy. KENNEDY was an idiot. Aside from his playboy habits placing the nation at risk, his Bay of Pigs fiasco abandoned thousands of Cuban patriots to their deaths, cemented Castro's position permanently, and led directly to the closest to launching nuclear war that we ever came (the Missile Crisis.) Quayle, unlike Kennedy, was an expert on foreign and military policy, not to mention being morally sound as well, and would never have bolluxed up the Caribbean the way Kennedy did.

But to the shallow, uneducated voters like Beastie Boy, a 5-second sound bite trumps all. If you can sound good in front of a camera, man, that means you're qualified. Welcome to the Age of the Camera.

Obama would have been laughed off the stage in 1910. He's not qualified for DOG CATCHER. But with a nation of Beastie Boys, he actually has a chance of becoming President. Is this a great country, or what?

(Unrelated to this topic, please visit my political blog, "Plumb Bob Blog: Squaring the Culture," at http://www.plumbbobblog.com. Thanks.)

How? not hope
Obama: It is not "hope" but "how" if hope is to be realized. And the "how" must be of substance. Otherwise, hope becomes a "fairy tale"!

Boo-Hoo
If you're really sensitive, a Hallmark card can maybe bring a tear to your eye at best. But Obama can launch you into a severe depression when you realize how many of your fellow countrymen are dumb enough to eat calorie-free foods and claim they're stuffed afterwards.

Barack is not a featherball.
He is a danger to the US. He wrote an international poverty bill which would have the government spending an additional 800 BILLION dollars every year on foreign aid, and allow foreign nations to impose taxes on the US.
He would impoverish the American People to give our money to foreign dictators who would build themselves many palaces (Remember Sadddam?) and starve the people who are supposed to receive the aid.
Barck would also visit Islamo-fascist-terorist murderers and ask them why they don't like us. The answer is that "we exist".
Don't give Barack a chance to do any of this. Keep him out of the WH, and get him out of the Senate.

change
Part 1
When Obama talks about change, consider this! Why would anyone such as Obama want change in this great country. He, and his cheer leader Opray, should be two of the most grateful to live in a country that has enabled them to become hugely successful. Consider his life. He was born to fairly common parents and his father deserted him before he was two years old. Yet, we now know he's worth 1.5 million. Who knows what Oprah is worth! There are other great successful blacks in this country, Tony Dungy and Bill Cosby, two of my favorites come to mind. Where else in the world could they have become so hugely successful? So isn't it obvious we already have a great country where hard work can get you ahead?

change
Part 2

It doesn't take much to see why he's talking change. Change to most people means more money in their pockets. More money in people's pockets get their votes! Here's a little read I found the other day. "At about the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution in 1787, a Scottish history professor by the name of Professor Alexander Tyler had this to say about "The Fall of the Athenian Republic" over 2,000 years previous to that date. "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse (generous gifts) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship." "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through this sequence. From bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance, from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back into bondage." Another four years of liberal give aways should make us about 80% dependent!

Unqualified?
Only in the United States could we be posting comments such as these. I think Obama's theme change we can believe in is obvious music to ears here and abroad. His message of hope for a better tomorrow is much needed like sunshine after a very bad thunderstorm. I would like to remind the audience that when Corazon Aquino won the election in the Phillipines she was also criticized for not having experience. It turned out she was exactly what was needed to put that country back on track.

Harken could it be that a black man could do the same in these United States?

*************************************************

Hey Will, I wouldn't be bragging about the Obama writing his own speeches.

They are well delivered, but empty of content.

I am an artist, and it is well known among the art community that when you leave lines incomplete, the viewer's eye finishes it with their imagination.

Obama does this with his word pictures. They present an imcomplete picture of what he will do when he is in office. Either he does not know himself, or he does not want to say out of fear that if he spell it out he will have fewer supporters.

All he offers is a dream: not the clearly defined dream of Martin Luther King, but a fill-in-the-blanks dream, where people can attach their own hopes to it.

When he says "I am change" or however the heck he puts it, he does not specify what kind of change: in that way, every malcontent underacheiver can insert "whatever" in the dreamy void.

How about a six-figure income for every welfare mother? A $20/hr minimum wage for every Taco Bell window jockey? A driver's license for every illegal alien gardener, and a free pass on their pollution-spewing trucks? How about a fresh pillow for every drugged-out vagrant who is sleeping it off in the downtown parks?

How about a guarantee that he will make those nasty Evangelicals shut up about the sanctity of marriage, or force Catholic churches provide a condom dispenser in every confessional?

How long do you think Obama's campaign would last if he expressed his extremely leftist views out loud?

change

More Than experience
It takes a person with vision to make a difference. Obama will have the best and brightest in his cabinet. A big part of a president's job is to provide leadership and inspire. His competition Hilary has no leadership qualities and certainly doesn't inspire. She a senator POTHOLE. We need more than that as President. Oh I forgot Obama also has INTEGRITY. She has none.....

What is that BO?
Doesn't DC stink enough already?

inkling_revival
On the money! This country has essentially turned a job interview into one giant popularity contest. What is truly amazing is how ignorant people are that they listen to the flowery words of Obama and cannot discern what they are listening to.

What little Obama has put forth is basically buying the love of the rest of the world which is not change or new. So along with promising sunshine and kisses to his followers he promises them to the rest of the world. What happens when he can't deliver?

I will definitely be visiting your blog!

Barry
Does not write his own speeches.

No campaign manager worth their salt would ever allow that. He may have input but I guarantee you he doesn't write them completely. But while he's at it could someone please write a new one! I'm sick of hearing the same one over and over and that goes for McCain too!

Unity
John Hawkins asks: "What happens when Barack Obama, ....has to 'unify' liberals and conservatives?"

Obama is hoping for the same situation in November 2008 as Reagan in November 1980: A landslide so huge that it intimidates the opposition into shutting up.

It's often said that "elections come with messages." In 1980, the Reagan landslide also included the defeat of major liberals like McGovern, Culver, Church, Magnuson. The remaining liberals in Congress were so stunned and despairing that they pretty much gave Reagan what he wanted on military spending and so on.

If Obama can pull off a similar landslide in 2008, there won't be enough Republicans in Congress to stop him and he'll have his "unity".

V: "Change... is Music to Ears"
Change? What kind of change?

Change is the longing of the over-endulged spoiled brats, filled with ennui.

Change is the cry of babies, who have soiled their own diapers.

Change is the desire of the fool with the stopped watch, who doesn't know what time it is. BTW, changing your watch to the wrong time is not going to help you: you still won't know what time it is!

The thing that made America great is the fact that each person had the freedom and opportunity to create his or her own change inside their lives.

When government creates the change for you, you become a dependant infantalized child of the state, sucking off the teat of mama government. How is this better for mankind?

It's been only 10 days since Feb. 5th...
In the course of little over a week, Romney was the shining hope & beacon for most TH conservatives & lost to McCain big-time in these 2/5 primaries. Only Hugh Hewitt was spinning this defeat into a Romney "victory" the next day (& pointing out that no "real" conservatives voted for McCain & Romney was "in it till the end").

Well over half of all the posts on TH (by conservative commenters) were anti-McCain on the John McCain columns (in fact, many COLUMNISTS were swift-boating McCain).

It's amazing how all you sheep have been successfully herded & harnessed & manipulated & corralled into joining together for John in the McCain camp. All of you "I'll NEVER vote for McCain! EVER!" people. All in under a week!

A nonpartisan psychologist should write a column about THIS fact on Townhall, exploring how many columnists & posters could sacrifice their "core principles" in a matter of days.

American Idol
This society has become increasingly shallow, celebrity-obsessed, and uninformed (see Will's comments on Reagan for a prime example of the latter). Obama, loud on empty rhetoric, incapable of rational thinking (THE most liberal of senators), thus is the perfect candidate for this society which knows who the American Idol is but cannot even place the dates of the Civil War in the correct CENTURY. One of the two major parties in this country now has as its two finalists for President, on the one hand, a control freak of truly evil character who has sought ultimate power her entire adult life, and on the other hand an empty suit who is the equivalent of a Potemkin village. Nikita Khrushchev was essentially correct when he said "we will bury you from within". He was incorrect insofar as being buried by Moscow is concerned, but he was entirely correct in the sense that unchecked socialism destroys everything it touches. A President Obama is virtually guaranteed for the next 8 years, put into place by American Idol voters. Eight years from now as a result, parts of the world will likely have surpassed the U.S. in most areas it has dominated for the past century.

for Will
Will writes: "this is how a nation dreams."

Dreaming of what exactly???

What *exactly* is Obama's vision for how America and the world should look after four years of an Obama Administration? Will the stock market be higher? Will middle-class Americans be better off, and if so, how? Will Iran have nuclear weapons by 2012? Will al-Qaeda still be plotting terrorist attacks against America?

In 1980, Reagan really had a comprehensive economic and foreign policy program to offer. Whether you agreed with it or disagreed with it, at least you knew what it is.

Obama won't tell us. He reminds me of Nixon in 1968 with his "secret plan to end the war in Vietnam" or Carter in 1976 with his slogan "Anybody who wants to work ought to work". Where's the beef???

my 2 cents
I have been saying for months that when it comes to Obama there is no "there" there.

I stand by that statement.

There is also the fact that he has been enthusiastically endorsed by Moveon.org, an organization he has praised in glowing terms.

AND

Let's keep in mind that Moveon.org called General David Petraeus, commander of U.S. and allied forces in Iraq, a traitor (Petraeus or Betray Us?) in their full page ad in the NYT last September.

bo, who has NO military experience, wants to be this man's commander.

Will
Why do you comment on politics when you know nothing about politics?

Reality check is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson should be out protesting with their bull horns because we are disenfranchised.

Conservatives didn't elect John McCain, democrats and independents did. I think I should get to compete in the Olympics and first choose who I am going to compete against. I will win the gold for sure.

SteveL
Some of these posters waxing estatic over Obama were poing for Gerber ads when the "beef" was big

Will nonsense
"It's amazing how all you sheep have been successfully herded & harnessed & manipulated & corralled into joining together for John in the McCain camp."

Nice use of passive voice, a true mark of the uneducated. But that aside, your comments are truly precious, considering that American liberalism has consisted of helpless unthinking sheep since the 1960's "revolution" of spoiled brats. If you knew your history (admittedly too much to ask for from a government-educated lib) you would understand that the normal state of affairs in American presidential elections is a choice between bad and worse. True leaders only arise once or twice in a century. (There's your 4th grade history lesson for you today). Conservatives understand that McCain has betrayed many conservative principles, including his blatant violations of the Constitution. But most conservatives, unlike liberals, possess the ability to think and to be pragmatic. The choice is now between a sometime-conservative vs (pick one) a power-greedy liberal of evil and corrupt character and a shallow liberal with no accomplishments who turns liberals on because he coos to them like a clucking mother hen. Look to yourself as far as sheep are concerned!

for MiliDoggg
MiliDoggg asks: "Against McCain's 100 year occupation? Against his call for endless war?"

You have a point.

It is ASTONISHING to me that none of the GOP candidates--not even Rudy Giuliani--promised to destroy the al-Qaeda network once and for all, and achieve real victory in the War on Terror.

After 9-11, then SecState Colin Powell told reporters who asked what we're going to do about al-Qaeda: "We're going to rip it out." Well, here we are over 6 years later and it hasn't been ripped out. And no GOP candidate this year has claimed they will rip it out either.

So of course people are flocking to Obama. We have no positive message of our own to sell.

By now, Osama bin Laden should have been dead and buried on the White House lawn so that tourists from all over the world could stop by and urinate on it.

I'm mortified that this has not happened.

"Hope" is not a method.
"Hope" does not qualify you to be CINC of the most powerful military on the planet. You can sit around on your butt an "hope" the government will take care of you or you can "get off the couch" and do something.

Hope is for dreamers. Action is for do'ers.

So many good points
The conservatives here are making excellent points. Look at the record. Why on earth does anybody in this day and age listen to what a politician says? We all know it's largely fluff.
(conservatives seem to anyway)
It's like everytime there is a disaster the president has to fly there. Why? do the people really think he cant assess the disaster the way we all have? Can he not trust his people on the ground? Of course he can. It's fluff. We are a nation of sound bytes and images. I dont see that changing any time soon.

Repubs/cons Keep underestimating obama
Unqualified to be Prez, and empty suit full of grand empty rhetoric, a human hallmark card, cult of personality?

keep it up repubs/cons, if you continue to misunderestimate Sen. Barack Obama you do it at your own peril. He is going to make a fool out of all of you naysayers.

I sense that there is a lot more going on inside of this man and what he plans to do as president, should he win both the dem nomination and the potus general election...

A grahpic look at his team of advisers should tell you this man is no slouch politically or intellectually. he is where he is not just because of good looks and a great speaking voice. the man is striking a chord within a lot of americans, particularly young people who are
ill at ease and tired of the old way of doing things...he represents a break from the past.

if you repubs/cons insist on thinking he is a
"empty vessel full of empty platitudes" so be it.
is he should ascent to the presidency it will be
funny watching you eat "crow sandwiches" for losing to a empty suit...

Obama the Black candidate
Its so sad to see so many well educated and smart people following blindly behind Obama. As you see posted on the comments, some people believe GWB actually hates black people and wanted black people to die in N Orleans after Katrina. Sad to say many black people actually believe that garbage. What disturbs me about him is not that he is the "most Liberal" Senator, he belongs to a black racist Church. People say you shouldn't bring religion into the debate, yet they hound Mitt and Mike on it. Obama claims he is going to a uniter, how? They asked blacks after they voted why they voted for Obama. They said because he would do things for Blacks in America, not Americans in general, Black America.

The Democrat party succeeded in pitting races, religions, young and old against each other. This identity politics is the result. He's speaks well, he's cute!and he will do something for black people! Not all blacks are racist or believe playing the victim, but some blacks are the most racist people I ever met.

Re; 1 reason to vote McCain. He will fund our military. Dems will not build it, theyll break it. Not just for Iraq, but for the fight that is coming. The enemy will be at war with us for decades, they will not give up. When McCain says we will be at war years he's telling the truth.Even if others don't want to hear it or believe it, it is the truth. Not voting because its McCain aren't punishing the "the Party", you punish all of us.

We all need to elect "strict constructionist" politicians nationwide, local offices and Congress. Whether we get McCain or a Dem. We will still need to fight the fight at home, but at least you know he will not give in, give up the fight abroad..

Obama- Try this, go to Trinity website, instead of using black, use white. Go to "about us" after the intro- http://www.tucc.org/

Obama
I admit I have missed a few TownHall mailings but I have been waiting for this to happen and I might add it has been a long time coming. An attack on Obama! I thought the ink had been used up attacking the Clintons but guess i was wrong. But it took Obama as a front runner to waken the typewriters.

But not to worry. Obama isn't going to be able to change much. First he has to get the country back on its feet. He has to get the spending like a drunken sailor under control, get a handle on the ear marks, and then he might scare ya all to death with some health care reforms. If he accomplishes that he will indeed have brought about change. So far he has appeared to be the most likely to address the problems. I really doubt if that will lead the country to the rack and ruin you are predicting.

GWB vs Islam
Will,

Muhammad is the greatest recruiter as he wrote in the Quran to kill all us infidels. Your liberal Hollywood friends have more to do with Islam hatred for us than Bush could ever generate. Their Imams use the filth coming from Hollywood to teach their kids just how everyone in the US lives. Since everything coming from Hollywood / US is contrary to the Quran, they hate us!

"Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book (Christians and Jews), until they pay the jizya [tribute] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. (Quran 9:29)."

MAYBE AMERICANS DESERVE OBAMA

.....Since there will not be a Conservative running for President in '08 maybe Obama would be the best candidate to bring about "change" ...the same way Jimmy Carter did ...

.....Obama is selling hope and the suckers are lining up around the block with fists full of dollars to buy some ...

.....My old grandpa told me that whenever I had hope ...to put my hope in one hand and to take a dump in the other and see which hand filled up first ...with Obama ...I fear we would get a "full hand" .....COLOSSUS

Chicaree
No argument about the spending- except I've never seen a democrat decrease spending. Perhaps you could find one in modern history. and tell us all about it.

Big Daddy
Good point. If you vote for someone who offers you abstracts like hope, and change. I'm sure you'll get a big pile of abstract in return.

bly
No, you get the "Great Society."

Four years of Mr. Potatoe-Head
inkling: "What BB here remembers as proving that Quayle was a "complete idiot" was a 5-second sound bite launched against a small mistake in the Republican campaign strategy, comparing Quayle to Jack Kennedy. Bentsen said 'I knew Jack Kennedy, and you're no Jack Kennedy'."
---------------------------
Mr. Potatoe-Head had four years to persuade us of his ignorance and stupidity. Bush has had seven. Neither one has ever done anything on his own merits -- Daddy plowed the road for both.

Pity we couldn't have hired an actual leader like a Tony Blair, rather than a pair of trained chimps.

Vaquero
The thing is, in order to be elected you have to get people to like you. When Obama and Keyes appeared together on Devon Avenue, Chicago's Indian-Pakistani commercial street, Keyes made a terrible impression on the crowd, which became so menacing to him that he had to retreat to his car. Obama was adored by the crowd, which wanted to listen to him, speak with him, get close to him, get his autograph, shake his hand. Keyes seems to have a genuine gift for getting people to hate him. Obama seems to have a genuine gift for getting people to like him. Now that he is front-runner he is being attacked, but that is expectable. As Obama himself said, that shows he is recognized as the opponent.

You made me spit up my Coke!
inkling: "Quayle, unlike Kennedy, was an expert on foreign and military policy, not to mention being morally sound as well, and would never have bolluxed up the Caribbean the way Kennedy did."
-------------------------------
And where, pray tell, did he acquire this expertise -- in the Indiana National Guard? LOL!

Kennedy screwed up the Bay of Pigs, but at least he had the good sense to admit his mistakes. That one act made him a statesman.

Shrub has destroyed everything he has ever touched, and never admits a mistake.

Big Daddy - "HOPE"
Re: your comment "Hope is not a method".

Religion works in precisely this way. Christianity offers oppressed pilgrims "everlasting life" in a dreamy, unformed afterlife; "eternal bliss".

Apparently people have a psychological need for talk of "hope" & "dreams" & "heavenly peace" & uplifting rhetoric.

Barack Obama is doing for America what the christian church does for evangelicals: he taps into that need for hope and a "promised land", something more fulfilling than the present, a yearning for higher planes of meaning, a transcendence desperately sought by a disspirited & cynical nation.

Obama is the effect not the cause
When you have half wit NEO CONS that do not understand capitolism and free markets you eventually get a Obama.

A true conservative that FUNDAMENTALY understands the difference betweem capitalism and socialism would destroy Obama. The conservatives needs some one who can explain why Capitolism, free markets, decentralized government are MORE COMPASIONATE than possible alternative.

The problem with the NeoCon is he only wants a hybrid capitalistic/corporate socialism that looks very much like FASCISM.

The AMerican People may not know the difference but when faced with socialism and corporate socialism they will choose personal socialism every time.

That was a really good post. I hadn't thought about the connection between Obama and religion except to observe how easy it is for humans to invest those amorphous feelings into another human (dead or alive). Some friends went to hear Obama in Seattle, and said it was not unlike a giant mega-church faith healing orgy. They are Obama supporters, mostly for very practical reasons (electability for one) but were awed at the passion.

The irony is that conservatives have handed Obama the nomination by their constant lying and mud-slinging towards Hillary - liberals like me just decided to let them have their fun and then move on while they were busy trashing Clinton, not noticing that we had found someone else instead.

Dick and Eileen McGann have posted weekly Hillary attack columns for over a year now - and now we have Obama.

Adjustment
If Obama is elected as our President, we will have to change our priorities and adjust. Since there will be terrorist attacks on our soil, including nuclear, we will have to have evacuation drills, gas amsks and underground shelters built in preperation.

Get real

See just one question for you to handle. Don't want to over load you.

Where do you think McCain would get the money to fight the good fight? He has already expressed his joyful willingness to stay in Iraq for a hundred years. I keep remembering something I learned in a long-ago college history class---that the government of France so easily fell to the French Revolution because it had bankrupted itself in the endless wars demanded by its arrogant king.

Our government has told us little about the embassy it has built in Baghdad which will cost over $1 billion a year to run. It is a fortified city with its own water, sewage, and power plants and housing for over 1000 employees. It is ten times the size of our average embassy abroad. (Am I making this up? Google for yourself and find out.) Does it sound to you as if Bush has been planning to come home any time soon?

War is expensive. It drains a nation faster than anything else. Republicanworld thinks "tax" is a swear word, so that leaves the option of more borrowing. Is that what you want?

The same posters who would deprive every domestic program of a single dollar are hysterical in their cries to give the military more and more. BTW in 2006 alone we spent $1 billion just on recruitment and retention bonuses. You don't want a draft, so the alternative is massive payola.

Good post, as usual. I doubt that you will get anything in response to it except for the usual schoolyard insults that substitute for actual ideas, but I agree with everything you wrote.

As for experience, it strikes me that these same posters didn't seem to be concerned about it when Romney was running.

Someone pointed out at a caucus last week that when England was being firebombed it was important that Churchill had the power and eloquence to inspire and strengthen the English that he so often used. While I certainly don't think that is Obama's only strength, I think that cynical, disillusioned Americans are grateful for soemthing to feel hopeful about. there are many who felt Bush and Cheney had dragged us down beyond any chance of recovery - Obama can reach just those people.

I sold motorcycles as a living for nearly all my adult life. I did well. When working with a customer, never once did someone buy a bike from me because I sold him an intangible feature as "hope"! Nobody ever bought a bike from me because of any "great speaking voice" or was "adored by the crowd"!

I could go on and on, but I hope you see my point with this analogy. We have someone trying to sell his way into the White House with no features or benefits other than "good intent", a few years in the state senate and an eloquent voice. What's UP with this, people?

Great 11:56 am post (love that Lilly humor).

Speaking of "guns", I hear conservative talk-radio saying this morning that the campus shooting at Northern Illinois University could have been avoided if only we'd had the prescience to "arm" the general student body with handguns for "self-protection".

Is it just me?: I can't see how an entire student body of hormone-driven, naturally emotional & hyper college students each walking around campus packing firearms could reduce incidents of school shootings. Call me "cynical".

Barack is trumping Shrillary
... with a better game plan and tactics.
I think that when they autopsy her campaign many will point to Slick Willie as the loose cannon that backfired... the race card thing was STUPID, but leave it to the Clintonista's to try any dirty trick. The tears thing could only be used once, and only a few states have a lot of Mexicans actually voting (see Mexifornia)-- SO FAR.

Barack has out-campaigned her, partly because Presidente Jorge and the rest have so stunk up Washington (what else is new?!) that is is best not to be stressing experience there. Shrillary had parlayed Slick Willie's adultery into a Senate seat (as even honest libs like Howard Fineman admit), but too many correctly do not see Slick's time in the W.H. as HER experience, though she tries to play that for all it is worth.

Barack is an empty suit so far on details, but so was Jimma' Carter in '76 when he followed another failure/bad smell in the W.H... appearance passes for reality to many. And he got lucky to have the underwhelming liberal open border RINO Amnesty Juan McQuisling as his opponent. We are sick of hearing the neoCON drivel about how we must never leave Iraq; it is the only tune the old man can play. He admits that he does not understand economics-- swell time for that "straight talk."

We had better support a lot of REAL Republicans for Congress to stop the bleeding and save the republic from the ILLEGAL invasion and the permanent welfare state, which the 'Crats will have when the ILLEGALS all actually vote, which will not even require citizenship... that's what the driver's license ploy is all about.

gee, Will
Would you rather be the statue or the pigeon? Call me "over-simplifying".

There are two problems with your analogy:

One, I would suspect that if you were selling both cheap, used motorcycles with an unreliable record of performance and newer, more promising motorcycles that looked like they could deliver their owners to wherever they wanted to go, I would say quite a bit of hope was involved in your customers' purchases. Every time we invest in anything, we do it with a degree of hope that it will meet our expectations and in some cases, make our lives better.

Certainly there were alot of conservatives who selected Bush based on hope - proof that it can definitely be misplaced!

But your analogy is also not a good one because a motorcycle is a fixed, inflexible object that remains exactly what it is no matter what happens around it. It won't become a better motorcycle just because its owner's circumstances change.

Beastie Boy: "You made me spit up my coke! And where, pray tell, did he acquire this expertise -- in the Indiana National Guard? LOL!"

The Senate Armed Services Committee, actually. He distinguished himself there as a freshman Senator, demonstrating drive, curiousity, initiative, and an astonishing grasp on military matters.

There's a fairly informative article about Quayle's Senate service at
http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/generic/ VP_Dan_Quayle.htm

As a freshman Senator, Quayle formed an alliance with Sen. Ted Kennedy to produce a bipartisan jobs training bill that replaced the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) when the Reagan admin let it expire.

From the Senate article:

"Senator Kennedy congratulated Quayle for having worked hard to develop a common consensus while remaining consistent with his own principles. Both congressional Democrats and the Reagan administration claimed credit for the act, and to Quayle's dismay the White House scheduled the signing ceremony for a day when he would be out of town. Still, his success won considerable attention, gave him credibility as an effective senator, and provided him with ammunition for his Senate reelection campaign."

(continued in following post)

Beastie displays his ignorance (II)
(continued from previous post)

On Armed Services:

"As a freshman, he took the lead in persuading other freshmen Republicans to reach a compromise on a Reagan administration plan to sell AWACS surveillance planes to Saudi Arabia. Quayle arranged for Reagan to sign a "letter of certification" that satisfied enough otherwise doubtful senators to win approval for the sale. Quayle was also willing to take positions independent of the administration. In 1987, as the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty moved toward completion, Quayle joined a group of conservative Republican senators in opposition. When President Reagan accused them of accepting the inevitability of war, Quayle denounced the president's comments as "totally irresponsible." A question arose over whether the treaty covered such "futuristic" weapons as lasers, particle beams and microwaves. Both the State Department and the Soviets agreed they were covered, but Quayle insisted they were not... Quayle faced down such major players as Sec Def George Shultz, and was instrumental in the Senate confirmation of the treaty.

Now... provide me with a similar story from Barack Obama's Senate term, showing his grasp of political affairs, commitment to principle, willingness to achieve results through bipartisan effort, and positive policy achievements.

Good luck with that. There aren't any.

This illustrates the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats BELIEVE and PRETEND they know history, politics, etc. They convince themselves they know the facts, then scoff when challenged. Their politicians, meanwhile, run for President rather than achieving anything worthwhile.

Republicans, on the other hand, actually know the facts, and actually produce positive benefits through hard effort, learning, humility, negotiation, and creativity.

Thanks for the illustration, Beastie Boy.

It's not hope, buddy. It's trust. I had a pretty high level of personal pride. With that was the experience to know that I guaranteed my bikes or I didn't sell them. I made sure this was the right model for that customer, not hoped for it. Was I always right? Of course not.

With the experience (about 40 years of it)came the trust. You see touj, I'm not talking about the motorcycle (Obama in this case) It was my customer (the people who have to elect a president)He seems to be a good guy. He's just not ready for this job, sir.

I'm sure we'll both agree that it's hard to elect a president who comes with a warranty.

**keep it up repubs/cons, if you continue to misunderestimate Sen. Barack Obama you do it at your own peril. He is going to make a fool out of all of you naysayers.**

This, I fear, is true. Oh, how I wish I could go back to my liberal days - when all that sufficed was a good sound bite that made me "feel" good. Didn't require that I actually thought about anything.

I read it to the grisly end. It's truly frightening. Conservatives - you need to read it. You'll understand a whole lot more about what we're up against.

Gun ownership and reality
Will writes: "Is it just me?: I can't see how an entire student body of hormone-driven, naturally emotional & hyper college students each walking around campus packing firearms could reduce incidents of school shootings. Call me "cynical"."

Not cynical, will, just ill-informed.

From http://www.hillsdale.edu/news/imprimis/archive/issue.asp?y ear=2004&month=09

"In January 2002, a shooting left three dead at the Appalachian Law School in Virginia. The event made international headlines and produced more calls for gun control. Yet one critical fact was missing from virtually all the news coverage: The attack was stopped by two students who had guns in their cars.

"The fast responses of Mikael Gross and Tracy Bridges undoubtedly saved many lives. Mikael was outside the law school returning from lunch when Peter Odighizuwa started shooting. Tracy was in a classroom waiting for class to start. When the shots rang out, chaos erupted. Mikael and Tracy were prepared to do something more constructive: Both immediately ran to their cars and got their guns, then approached the shooter from different sides. Thus confronted, the attacker threw his gun down."

The incident at Appalachian law also illustrates why will doesn't believe it -- the press deliberately avoided mentioning that the shooter was stopped by gun owners. Most accounts said they "tackled" the suspect, or that they "restrained" him.

I've said for years that a "Democrat" is a person who still believes that what they taught in grade school and what he reads in the newspaper are true.

Woody - extending the metaphor
You're absolutely right, there are no presidential candidates with warranties, fortunately or unfortunately. And, we don't have reliable, trustworthy salemen like yourself to assure us that everything will work out.

That's where hope comes in.

PS: I grew up in Minnesota - is your snow as high as Wis. and Michigan? (Is it as high as an elephant's eye?)

Will

The prohibition of firearms on campus obviously did not keep the killer from bringing them on campus, now did it.

The people that are usually referred to as "carrying" are CCW permit holders, who have gone through require training. At least some of those students you deride, are adults well over 30, going back to improve their chances in the workplace.

Best Qualified as a Liberal President
I find it funny that John Hawkins embraces Clintonista Paul Krugman's view of the Cult of Obama. Who is John Hawkins to question Krugman? Well, supposedly a conservative who doesn't generally tend to buy anything Krugman has to say.

And when John Hawkins states that Obama isn't fit to be President because he's the most liberal Senator, all I can say is that of course Hawkins would think this. After all, Hawkins is a conservative. But for us liberals, Obama is the most fit to be President.

And I don't buy the need for Obama to have more years in the Senate in order to be identified as a liberal. If Hawkins can look at Obama's record and come to the conclusion that Obama is the most liberal Senator based on this record, I don't see how others can't do likewise, and I also don't see how some more years of behaving the same way will change anybody's understanding of him as a liberal.

The Obama-is-unfit-and-inexperienced meme not only is weak, it's partly what voters want. Washington insiders with long careers and extensive records are not in high favor these days.

Sour grapes, is all that Hawkins is peddling with this weak line.

Get ready for an Obama presidency folks!

More Democrat-distorted history
MIDogg (who's probably been banned from this site more times than I've eaten ice cream, and is now back in yet another persona) writes:

"right - [Reagan] only pumped billions into Mujhadeen (bin Laden) fighting the Soviets -"

Bin Laden's organization for supplying the mujahaddin existed before and after the Reagan administration's involvement in Afghanistan, which lasted only about 3 years. The US supplied weapons almost entirely to indigenous Afghan fighters; bin Laden at the time was arranging transport and supply for non-Afghan fighters being sent into Afghanistan by Muslim extremists. We didn't create him, and we didn't supply him.

If the US is to be blamed in any way for the rise of the Taliban and for bin Laden, it's probably for not helping reestablish an Afghan government after the Soviets left; but it's hard to blame us for that, since it wasn't really consistent with our foreign policy to do that. We didn't break Afghanistan, we weren't about to fix it.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/ubl.htm

Nearly everybody in the US bears some responsibility for not anticipating the rise of Islamic extremism. Clinton is particularly noteworthy, though, because so many attacks occurred on his watch, and he produced so little in the manner of an effective US response. History will correctly note the Bush administration for finally, at long last, waking up to the growing threat.

Proved my point, didn't you?

Did you go to the link I provided? Can we discuss what's there?

Bush was not my candidate in 2000. I didn't vote for him in the primary. I voted for him in the National election because what was my choice? Gore? No, thanks. I voted for him in 2004 because of people like you. He is not my favorite President but he has heroically stood up to idiots who think we're not in danger from Islamo-terrorism. He's made decisions that not many would have made, that's true. Whether they're right or wrong remains to be seen. History has a funny way of sorting itself out years later.

If Obama writes his own speeches, it's way past time to hire some professional writers.

ALL I have heard him spout is a constant stream of cliches - hope, change, turn the corner, etc.

IF GWB is the "cause" of AlQuaida & Muslim hatred and attacks on US, then world peace will IMMEDIATELY occur if Obama is elected prez. Do you actually believe that will happen? If you do, you are even more . . .

Top Gun
You got THAT right.

Obama DOES have a pleasant voice, and he expertly utilizes catch phrases and cliches, BUT ...

As the Dem nominee, he will be minutely scrutinized, questioned, & investigated. So far, he has been treated considerately - being half-black and all. As the nominee, his every move & word will be under the microscope.

Of course, some "yellow-dog" Demmies will vote for him, no matter what. However, when he can no longer rely on his standard remarks and is required to give substantive answers, I believe the nation will be shocked.

He will not be able to stand up under intense scrutiny.

What liberals understand about the world
A poster calling himself Huckupchuck (most likely a Dem operative from the Obama campaign) wrote:

"The Obama-is-unfit-and-inexperienced meme not only is weak, it's partly what voters want. Washington insiders with long careers and extensive records are not in high favor these days."

It's actually an indication of just how uneducated and unrealistic the average voter can be. Yes, they'll generally vote for an outsider in the hope that somebody, somehow, is going to clean up the snake pit that Washington has become. But to expect this from a man who has literally done nothing but run for President is to expect miracles without prayers.

The problem with Obama is not just that he's pretty much a socialist; the problem is that he's literally accomplished nothing that cannot be accomplished with the right media attention. He's quite literally a pretty face and an empty suit. You have to go back to the Illinois State House to find initiatives that he actually produced himself. He has not distinguished himself as a Senator, but as a speech-maker, delivering a stirring address at the 2004 Democratic convention.

It becomes apparent as soon as he's asked to produce specifics on his proposals; he looks and sounds like a college student when paired with men of real substance.

So, yes, he has a chance of getting elected President, so long as he manages to wage the entire campaign without getting specific. The press will certainly help you with that. But you'd better hope nobody gets to ask him direct questions, or he'll go down in embarrassing flames.

Obama is a bad movie plot
No one could argue then that the future isn't now, that we have not been waiting for us to arrive and that after a long wait we are here, and that in unity the courage to hope will not fail.

Or, as General Jack D Ripper said;

The GOOD He Is Doing
Most of us are castigating Obama, but he IS doing the country at least ONE GOOD thing!

Say what?!?!? Yep! He is instrumental in showing the decline of Clinton influence. In a way, that is a little sad - nostalgiacally. HA!

Mildogg's Ignorane - Today's History Les
Following WWI, there was no occupational presence in Germany - only the conceptual agreements of the Versaille Treaty. Result - WWII

Following WWII, there has been an international (English, American, French, etc) occupational presence in Germany and Japan for more than sixty (60) years. Result - no European wars.

Following the "end" of the Korean Police Action, there has been an international occupational presence of South Korea for more than fifty (50) years. Result - no more Korean war.

Mildogg illustrates his ignorance by suggesting the Iraq war will be a 100 year war. I neither like nor trust McClammy, but as a military man I understand what he means by a "100 year presence".

If, tomorrow morning, we achieved an ovewhelming victory against the militant factions of Iraq, Iran, etc, we would still remain to secure the peace and stabilize the area.

Today's English Lesson for Left Angle
"misunderestimate" ??? Do you have any idea what that means? Typical polyglot of a lib - like Hillary's "suspend disbelief".

First, HRC.
Belief - mental act, condition, or habit of placing trust or confidence in a person or thing; faith.
DIS belief - refuse or reluctance to believe;
Suspend - to bar for a period.
suspend disbelief = what you are saying is absolutely true!

Now, LA
estimate - make a judgment
under - lower tyhan normal or proper
mis - error, unsuitable, opposite or lack, failure.
misunderestimate = by criticizing Obama's qualifications (etc), we are doing exactly what needs to be done.

Class dismissed!

Yes, dave, I firmly believe they are attacking us for our foreign policy decisions, NOT "cause they hate us for our freedoms" as "W" says....oh, jeez, talk about empty rhetoric & no substance. We've been living for YEARS now with just that kind of contentless "they hate us for our freedom....progress is bein' made....they hate our way of life....bring evildoers to justice"

Maybe if Barack simply spoke in empty war rhetoric ("bring evildoers to justice!"), you'd all hail him as "tough on terror". I judged from "W"'s empty war rhetoric early on that he didn't have a clue as to what he was doing & was simply making it up as he went along.

But, you will be very PROUD of me, dave! Pretty rhetoric is totally meaningless. Otyher than possibly ridding the country of the clinton's oblahma has little else going for him. The power structure is not about to turn the party over to oblahma and the dims favorite victim group. Blacks may be useful to win elections but the rich boys won't surrender to the blacks who lack the ability to run and unite the party. You posit that Mr. Obama will get spending and earmarks under control.
I think you'd better zoom out and look at what both he and Mrs. Clinton propose. All of it involves more spending.
As for earmarks, you can look up senators' records on earmarks. McCain has none. Zero.
You been led astray.

You told it like it is

Obama the Black candidate

To Lilly: Why is it necessary for those on the left to be condescending and hateful when they try to make a point? McCain expressed "joyful" willingness to stay in Iraq? No, he's just being real truthful. The only way we will bankrupt ourselves is if we elect a Democrat to office. I suppose your trying to be cute when you referred to the "arrogant" French King. Not so subtle reference to Bush or McCain? Real cute.

Great, I'm all for a big, bad embassy in Iraq. What is your problem? So, what? Iraq isn't upset about it and Iraq is ground zero in the fight that we will be in for years to come. If we have people there, I would hope you would want them to be protected. My cousin is in Iraq with the State Dept. I thought the left cared about diplomacy. Who do you think an embassy is for? Diplomats. They have to be safe, protected in order for them to do their job. The military in Iraq is protecting my cousin, so he can do his job. Get it.

Yes Lilly, war is expensive. So are the wasteful and fraud filled entitlements we have. Spending money in defense of our allies and ourselves shouldn't be an issue. I agree we need them to have better oversight on how money is used. I believe we need to stop handing defense contracts out as earmarks for a politicians district. But its not the job of the Congress to tell the military what it needs. We should be building a bigger, better, more functional military ready to deal with the war against us in a 21st century world..

Lilly @ 12:10
Perhaps you have misunderstood Sen Mccain's 100 year comment. In that case, here it is: he never said we would be at WAR for 100 years in Iraq. Is it far-fetched to you to believe that we will have some presence (an embassy and military bases) there for a long time to come, much as we do in many other places around the world where no combat has been involved for decades?
Please.

We are a slumbering giant. Fear not, the only thing we have to fear is the wake up call never sounds. Obama comes across as one heluva noise to me.

the suit
The term 'empty suit' does us all a disservice. It masks the main problem as being lack of experience. While that's true, it isn't the problem. If his politics remained the same, decades of additional experience would not fix the problem.
His rhetoric says nothing, but doesn't have to in the democrat primary. It only has to appeal to emotion.
If the true specifics WERE known, I think his supporters (some of them) would actually be more alarmed than some of the rest of us.
He already has all the voters he's going to get.

Secrets
The last three Democratic nominees for President (Clinton, Gore, Kerry) were all unqualified to be janitors in a defense plant, because of associations in their backgrounds that would make them ineligible for a Secret clearance. Perhaps Obama is an improvement in this regard, but we don't really know.

It is an astonishing and dismaying fact that people who are elected to high office in this country are automatically granted security clearances, without investigation.

The FBI should carry out a full field investigation of every candidate for the Congress or the Presidency, just as they do for every applicant for a security-sensitive job in the Civil Service or in industry, and the results should be published. The American people are entitled to elect a security risk, or even a traitor, if they so choose, but they should at least know what they are doing.

Obama a very dangerous man!
I pray that America will wake up to the Obama that it does not yet know before it is too late. He is a very dangerous man.

I find it ironic that Obama employs statistics on infant mortality to support his healthcare plan; he actually helped to increase infant mortality in Illinois. Did you know that over the course of his legislative career, Barack Obama has repeatedly defended infanticide? We're not talking about just abortion, per se. As an Illinois state senator, Barack Obama repeatedly defended the disposal of live newborn babies! If you think this is too awful to be true, just google: Obama BAIPA. As a U.S. senator, he defended "partial birth abortion," and denounced the Supreme Court for upholding the ban against that barbaric practice. This is only one example of Obama's extremism.

We Americans look at history - history as recent as seventy years ago - wondering with disgust how entire nations could fall disasterously under the spell of dangerous men who had the ability to "inspire" the masses. We suppose that we are too enlightened to let that happen in the USA. It can happen again. It can happen here.

Please continue to expose Barack Obama for the dangerous man that he is.

Osama Obama
Well "baseball doc" and many others have it right-- the Emperor really has no clothes. In spite of all the lofty rhetoric, there's really no "there there". I would challenge any of his adoring admirers to articulate just which policies, positions, projects or any other specifics they can point to as evidence of his suitability for the world's most powerful position!

While not all that politically correct to say so, I think it's clear that Obama's appeal is that he is an intelligent, well-spoken (although so far emptily) black person, and it makes many Americans feel better about themselves (think the Hollywood crowd) to say they're supporting a black! I koow no one shouldn't support someone for his race, so why then are over 90% of blacks voting for him? And what other times did Oprah get involved with anyone's campaign?

Really this is also racism of the worst kind. My personal preference is to find someone actually demonstrable of doing this incredibly important job, not someone who sounds like a Revival Minister gone Harvard.

BHO's agenda
I'm willing to bet Obama isn't as empty as he seems, don't be fooled, the man is brilliant. The dims will blindly follow his empty touchy feely rhetoric over the cliff while wetting themselves with glee..... Only after he gets into office will you find out what his real goals are. Oh! he's got change on his mind but not the kind of change that the libs want. Be careful what you wish for softheads!!

His
followers have been noted as young and well educated. That phrase young and well educated is an oxymoron. It may have been true 50 to 100 years ago but considering that the U.S. education system is way behind some countries that haven't the wealth we have, that's not saying much about these young koolaid drinkers being well educated. If they were, they wouldn't be jumping on the hope express because they would have the critical thinking skills to see through this fraud.
Some guy, an older man wrote in our local paper, actually he gushed at how wonderful it was to hear him speak and see all the young people cheering for him..and ya know what? This guy
actually shook Obama's hand, now isn't that special? Isn't that something make ya wanta jump for joy? Hey, mister koolaide drinker what did he say of any substance? Platitudes don't substitute for substance and actual policies.
I think Rush is correct, you have to be stupid to be a liberal because conservativism makes you have to think. Barack spews nothing but empty words that rattle around the empty heads of his
believers. I suppose because the mascot is a donkey, we might see Barack riding a colt and
going into Washington with his followers throwing their coats down in his path and waving palm branches.

Obama '08 - "Change we can believe (will do us) in."

You must remember that many dims were in favor of the war and commented to that effect early on, it was only after we realized that we were in for the "long haul" that some started to whine about it, denying that they ever agreed that it was time to take action, they count on the collective "short memory" of the people... However, was NEVER GWB's decision soelly to make, there were many on both sides of the aisle in agreement over this. Now they want to blame it on GWB as if it was his own, forgetting others that were involved the decision! those that voted "for" the war before they voted "against" it! Can't you see how flawed the logic is in blaming GWB as if he could start this whole thing by himself? The president has a lot of power but NOT that much... And executing criminals on death row is far better than executing "fetuses" in the womb, in my humble opinion.

To inkling
Keyes had scruples against running his campaign like a politician? Apparently he had scruples against running it with common sense. Carpetbagging his way into Illinois from Maryland, his native land, he rented the top floor of a derelict firetrap in a remote slum on the edge of Chicago and declared this would henceforth be his residence (many photos in paper). Only, he never moved in. He stayed in his actual home, which is a mini-mansion worth a couple of million $$ in Montgomery County MD, a suburb of Washington DC. That's the same house he threw his lesbian daughter out of without even college tuition money. His public appearances around Chicago were a disaster: the man doesn't understand PR and doesn't even bother to be polite to the people he expects to vote for him. Consequence was: Obama got 70% of the vote, Keyes got 27%.

SunThe
I believe McCain's words were that it was all right with him if we stay in Iraq for 100 years. The bit has been played many times on TV. Apparently it's OK fine with Bush too since he has spent, what is it now up to, $7 million on a new US embassy in Baghdad that is 10 times the average size of our embassies abroad, has housing to accommodate over 1000 employees, and will cost over $1 billion a year to run. It is clear that the Bush administration, which will segue into the McCain administration, has no plans to leave Iraq. Why should it? The GOP uses war to stay in power, they need the power so they can kiss up to Corporate America, and to hell with the American people. It's time for a change. Go Obama, although Hillary would be better than nothing.

ib
I never said that GWB was the brightest bulb on the string, but it's crazy that all these people think GWB is soely responsible for everything bad that has been going on lately from global warming to Katrina to the war in Iraq. I know he's partially responsible for the war but by saying that it's all his fault is a total falsehood. New Orleans is another perfect example!! (funny you should mention!!) It had long been known that something of this magnitude could happen in New Orleans since before the twenties and the responsibilities do NOT fall to the federal government, they actually fall to the STATE and local government, but here again we have polititians (managers) that are not interested in protecting the people, they are only interested in getting rich, so they ignore the inevitable because it costs money they could be pocketing, and then when the inevitable happens, they quickly point to the federal government (Bush and his cronies) and this creates a huge smokescreen that protects those who should have been responsible in the first place... And Now they have the nerve to ask for $250 BILLION!! That would mean every man woman and child would get over $500K that lived in that area!! Who would back such a request you ask? only those who stood to get rich off of that money, the rest of us know it's rediculous. No, my friend, Bush is not to blame for half the stuff people say he is, but by blaming Bush (an easy target) we take our eyes off of the real culprits, and concentrate on that "idiot" in the oval office (damn that Bush!!)..... Which by the way is probably every bit as intelligent as obama, just in different ways.

Chicaree writes:
"But not to worry. Obama isn't going to be able to change much. First he has to get the country back on its feet. He has to get the spending like a drunken sailor under control..."

Are you kidding? Have you seen his economic "plan"? He's proposing close to a trillion dollars in new spending. There's no talk of getting old spending under control or reforming ear marks. There is, however, lots of talk of "a new spirit of cooperation", working harder, "shared sacrifices and shared prosperity" and having "those who have benefited greatly" meet their "solemn obligation to open the doors of opportunity, not just for our children, but to all of America’s children."

There are so many liberal buzz words packed in there, it makes one's head spin. I have a pretty good idea who he expects to do the cooperating, sacrificing and hard work. Although he claims he'll fund this new spending by soaking the rich, he plans tax increases that will reach right into the pockets of the middle class, as usual.

Drunken sailor, I only wish. Obama wants to take us on a binge the likes of which we've seldom seen. And the hangover will be protracted and painful.

unwelcome visitors
Way too many leftist commenters at what is a conservative site. There's never any reciprocity. It isn't a habit of conservatives to go out to bait leftists on their sites (not that it would do them any good as typically the few who brave the sties of leftist comment are censored out).

But there's something in lefties' make-up (unhappy lives? no jobs?) that drives them to keep leaving sacks of smelly ordure on conservative porches like "9/11 happened on Republicans' watch" (yeah, and all the planning and warm-up attacks took place on Clinton's "watch" when he was below decks making whopee or consulting with his squadron of lawyers). No matter if you refute the same point a hundred times, still, incoming slow learner lefty drops the same wad.

Now they're here wasting our time and theirs singing the praises of their paper doll Obama. Why? No one here is going to vote for him.

It's just the same teenage jollies, of which they never tire, muddying up the conservative porch because they have nothing better to do than make nuisances of themselves.

And it's these same adolescent minds that are swooning over Obama like teenyboppers over Elvis or the Beatles. Actually, the Beatles had more substance to their words than Obama, although the early stuff was similar "She loves you yeah yeah yeah" a hundred times vs "hope and change, change and hope yeah yeah yeah".

Wow! These comments are so wide-ranging, they don't leave very much unsaid. The only comment I have to make is Dwayne Douglas Johnson, "The Rock", is going to be mighty surprised the next time he looks in the mirror and discovers that he's black.

Lilly
Ok, let's say that he did mean we might have to stay there for 100 years. If that were so, the point I believe he would be trying to make there is that you don't prosecute a war based on timelines. It's not like a game where it's finished when the clock runs out, and whoever's ahead at that point wins. In his view, it's finished when it's won. How American. Good thing we didn't quit when we got sick-and-tired in the American Revolution or the Civil War, or WWII.
Either way, it's different than what you keep trying to make it mean: that he wants to be in combat for 100 years (ergo republicans are warmongering and bloodthirsty.)

Also: Let not your heart be overtroubled by the $$ part of the war. It's not like "gone" money. It really actually helps the economy as it goes to paying salaries and goods. Different than say money paid to the UN or poured down a rat hole (woops that's redundant), but my point is that if you're concerned about it being a 'drain', like on your bank account, it's really different kind of money, economically speaking. I'm not saying that to minimize other costs or to justify war, just to comment on the $$ aspect that concerns alot of people.

Reagan the original Obama & Guns?

Republicans still worship Reagan, the original "Matinee idol", good looks delivering his lines to the Camera, "There you go again", "I won't hold your inexperience against you".

Is Obama the same? Actor Reagan "bed time for Bonzo" never impressed me, nor Obama, but Reagan was an effective President, although not good for poor or blacks. Obama? He may be a Jimmy Carter, good guy, salt of the earth, but ineffectual or he may be a Dem Reagan?

"Charismatic" leaders don't impress me, but I’ve got to admit "inspiring" people has value. Can he run DC & fight the GOP? Arnold Schwarzenegger? People love Movie stars, EVEN Republicans.

Guns, your precious little hobby, give it a break, no nation on the plant makes it as easy to get guns. The 2nd Admen was written with FLINT LOCKS in mind, before police, arming the people to fight off invading forces, not to shoot people in your front yard because you can.

I’M ALL FOR GUNS, but EVERY GUN OWNER MUST GO THROUGH
Training & testing in firearms! Forget about waiting period, how about a training period, evaluation and re-current training, including mental evaluation.

Argue against that! Your chance of death by gun, goes way up if you own one. Kids, 100's die every yr w/ guns found in a drawer or closet. Call me crazy. I don't want people with emotional & mental problems with guns.

Ironically Reagan, shot with Brady start the Brady Bill. Reagan also gave Amnesty to 5 million illegal’s. Reagan appointed two semi liberal Supreme court judges! NICE! He was full alzheimer during his 2nd term but still did better than Bush. Arms for contra mess, a big ohoops! We need a tonic to rid the rash Bush leaves, a Dem Pres.

There are various stages of Alzheimer’s

===

Get off of it stupid! As the nurse for my Sweetie’s last few years, incapsulated in Alzheimer’s, I met many others in various stages of the same problem.

People complain that Reagan had Alzheimer’s, but until its latest stages, that doesn’t wipe everything from a brain. He could not have performed as he did, if he was beyond the “old age” stage.

My Beautiful Sweetie had Alzheimer’s, but was a beautiful wonderful lady until she left for her new profession, and - - - - Now the Angels have a Role Model.

As someone “suffering” from eightyitis, I can assure you that in most people, maybe not all, age slows down the brain. The disease was named by Dr. Alois Alzheimer in 1864, and has been usually identified as “old age,” mainly because not enough people lived long enough to suffer from the later stages of that disease.

Let me assure you that while Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease, being a caretaker for your Sweetie, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, is even worse.

Wow!
Obama thinks he is going to unify the country? What a joke. Just read through the posts on this site; the philosophical division and utter hatred of each side toward the other is obvious. This can never be reconciled. He is a candidate because he is a black-hyphenated-American that belongs to a group that comprises 11-13% of the population and he is cute, therefore he should be president. He attends a church whose leader despises white people and supports a Muslim crazy; Obama describes this man as a "mentor." These are yet more positive positions for an American leader when the majority of the nation is white Christian. He has refused to wear an American flag lapel pin, however his campaign headquarters in Houston displays a Cuban flag with the face of Che Guevara embossed on it. This says alot about someone who would be commander-in-chief of the military. This does not even address the fact that he intends to steal yet more money from the American taxpayer in order to help the underserved globally. I am really excited about a potential presidency of Barack Hussein Obama! Wow!

go B'ho
Yep, it's incredible that so many Americans would support such a man after 9/11... "ex" muslim, black seperatist church, will not acknowledge the National Anthem, middle name hussein. Need I say more? What of his "white" mother? Left out of the picture! Even Tiger Woods is proud of ALL of his heritages and he says so, never heard anything like that from barack hussein obama! Is there something that he's ashamed of there? What of his muslim roots? another small detail left out? Oh! but he should be president because he makes me "feel" good and I like him! Hate to say it but I'd rather not vote with such choises.... Remember a half truth is just as bad and effective as a lie.

The Second Coming
We may as well relax and enjoy the stunning rise of Obama, just as Jack Kennedy had done long ago. The nation may not do as well, which wasn't very good as back then. In fact, the assassination ended what was becoming a failed administration. Unfortunately, Obama should last much longer in the White House and screw things up even worse

I really don't need a second messiah
I already have one so I think I don't need Mr.Obama for the job for which he is marketing himself. Because he obviously is not running for President of the Untited states which under his benevolent rule will determine all profit margins and cure all huamb ills. What planet is this guy from?

Obama the matinee idol
When your citizens are profoundly ignorant and worship at the feet of mindless celebrities, your days as a free nation are just about over. Obama is a celebrity of the usual type: pleasant looking, well spoken, seemingly intelligent, good conversationalist and charismatic. Our citizens have been conditioned for many years by the media to worship people like that without question. They can be completely incompetent as actorss, singers, comedians or politicians, but from the public's perspective, that is entirely beside the point. They are celebrities and that is the only possible point, the only thing that really matters. Thus Obama may become our POTUS just because of his smile, his celebrity speaking ability and his nimble though possibly empty or evil mind. Pray for Ron Paul.

Obama is an Arab
http://kennethelamb.blogspot.com/2008/02/barak-obama-questi ons-about-ethnic.html

Excerpt:

Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian, that from his mother. What those who want Mr. Obama to write history by becoming "America's first African-American president" ignore is that his father was ethnically Arabic, with only 1 relative ethnically African Negro - a maternal great-grandparent (Sen. Obama's great-great grandparent, thus the 6.25% ethnic contribution to the senator's ethnic composition.).

That means that Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side. He is 43.75% Arabic, and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side.

Put another way, his father could honestly claim African-American ethnic classification. He was the last generation able to do so.

Obama's loves Che Guevera

Apparently on MyFox Houston Texas news they showed an Obama Campaign headquarters with Che Guevera posters on the wall along with OBAMA 08 signs on top!
Obama may not say much, but actions speak louder than words.
No wonder so many labor unions support this guy...birds of a feather

To the liberals posting on this site
The problem many of us who identify ourselves as conservative have with Obama is his voting record, combined with a candidacy which obscures his views on the whole gamut of issues except "get out of Iraq".

Step back and listen to what he's saying - what does "hope" mean? To me - it means I hope we get a president who will appoint judges who are strict constructionists, will close the border and enforce immigration laws, will endeavor to begin to reduce the growing and potentially uncontrollable entitlements, protect the unborn and work to make the country as secure against terrorists as possible. Can I depend on Obama to come together with conservatives to accomplish this agenda? Can we move forwward, into the future, with the hope of these accomplshments?

I put this broad "platform" together in 5 minutes - easy - because I know what I believe, what I want America to look like and can communicate it to you. (Now, how we get there is not as easy as putting it to paper. But you know what I believe.)

Why won't Obama do that? Where is HIS platform - after all, he is a candidate and he has to actually stand for something - right? Using mere platitudes that have a cultish/messianic angle and even concern Paul Krugman should concern you as well.

The question is - why don't we know what his vision of future is he claims he's taking us to?

I'd share some observations on B.O.

Might just write in for Ron Paul
What other choices do we have than holding one's nose to vote for Hillary, McCain, or Featherball Obama? Featherball might be the sanest choice of the remaining three candidates...

Featherball or 'mandatory' healthcare insurance under Hillary Clinton?... Featherball!

Featherball or 100 years worth of war with Iraq?... Featherball!

Guess we'll see just how much of this 'change' we will be left with once he's the President. I don't see any of these three candidates being an economical President for the country. Which is the least destructive remaining for the general election? People usually vote Republican because of them being more economical Presidents than we get with big spending Democrats. We might as well vote for the Democrat as for an expensive Republican who can't figure his way out of Iraq! We can't afford 100 years worth of wars over a few insane terrorists flying planes into towers! Those fools are dead already & the country has more needs than retaliating indefinately over a bunch of nuts & their fruitcake religions...

Another so called airhead blabbering!
Yes, airhead Hawkins making fun of Obama, while glorifying a little man McCain who from what I read yesterday has no greater moral compass than an old rooster in a chicken pen! Yes, as a legal immigrant of 52 years and a staunch conservative Republican, every time I hear George W.,speak the guy whose hero is Jesus and now this McCain guy of the same and even worse militaristic imperialism one can hear a guy who also threatened the whole world with his inhumane and horrendous war machinery; but lets leave out the name of that evil one! Yes, for Imperialists borders mean nothing neither laws of immigration! Yes, Ron Paul is the only man worthy of my vote, in as much as he speaks in reality for George Washington and all the Founding Fathers, and is the only one that immediatly would restore and more, all that Ronald Reagan acommplished, but now totally destroyed by George W. the big liar, in reality, nothing less or more than a liar. Yes, if Ronald Reagan had been immortal and president for life Russia and the USA would be allies, yet this McCain peewee has already said the most stupid things about Russia and more. Yes, a vote for McCain is a vote for WWIII, as I can detect and continuing leading America down the pass of Imperialism and to its very demise! Yes, all Empires went down while possessing the most powerful war machinery! Yes, British Empire, was demolished by some ragtag American young men, right? So, what next Mr. Hawkins?

Obama passing for black:why?
Mr. Obama is 50% Caucasian, that from his mother. What those who want Mr. Obama to write history by becoming "America's first African-American president" ignore is that his father was ethnically Arabic, with only 1 relative ethnically African Negro - a maternal great-grandparent (Sen. ----------------------------------------

Maybe he knows being black has some fringe benefits like: affirmative action in getting into law school, and getting a pass from the press and from any critics in life because crtics dont want Al Sharpton or people like him to say his critics were badgering a "black"?) man. -Plus, he gets to excel because his expectations are lower.

Something sure has caused the msm to adore him like the three wise men.

I am waiting for Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman to come to his campaign HQ bearing gifts or Myrrh and Frankincense.

It certainly has driven Hillary and Bill crazy-and you cant really blame them: this guy IS a "fairy tale". (maybe in more ways than one)

And the press says: "back off our idol; he's untouchable!" Of curse they are desperate watching a coronation by the media.

Maybe they will turn on him once they find out he's a wigger!

Obama does this with his word pictures. They present an imcomplete picture of what he will do when he is in office. Either he does not know himself, or he does not want to say out of fear that if he spell it out he will have fewer supporters.

When he says "I am change" or however the heck he puts it, he does not specify what kind of change: in that way, every malcontent underacheiver can insert "whatever" in the dreamy void."

EXACTLY!! and the msm wont stop genuflecting
long eniugh to ask him one tough question.

No wonder Hillary ad Bill have flipped their wigs.

They are witnessing an affirnative action coronation of their opponent-

it would be funny, except... an Osama presidency is not funny...all you McCain bashers will regret it come Jnuary 2009...

Savage beating leads Hawk to switch topi
John Hawkins and Cal Thomas took such a savage beating last week over The McCharade that they had to write about Democrats this week.

Osama Obama
Well of course ole cornpone Harry got it just right.. Osama, er, Obama is being propelled forward by an unlikely coalition of idealistic but shallow young group raised on MTV and other profundities, feel-good liberals (great!--he's black!), and of course over 90% of blacks( is that racism?).

All this excitement makes me wonder if any of the google-eyed chubbby little blonde girls always standing behind his podium have ever asked themselves one very basic question:" what in the world makes this man qualified to be President of the United States?"

And as for the lame commentary that he "couldn't be any worse than Bush", I beg to disagree. If there's one thing GW gets right, it's what our country's (and the world's) greatest threat is-- radical Islam. I like many others have grave concerns about what Obama Osama Hussein whatever will do to confront these charming murderers.

He certainly doesn't give much comfort in this regard by failing to disavow the racist, pro-Islam, anti-Semitic minister of his church, who recently gave an award to Louis Farrakhan!
And apparently Obama has on his advisory staff at least 3 folks known for their irrational hatred of Israel, including the notorious Susan Rice, as well as the relentless Zbigniew Brezhinski.

There is a lot more at stake here folks than high-sounding but hollow phrases about "change" and "hope"!ndinis is aboushi

believe me it shows

"I think comparisons with Ronald Reagan aren't particularly apt. Reagan was a trained actor. Reagan read other people's words.... "

that's already been debunked as left wing propaganda after the recent discovery of Reagan's personal letters.

will take a pill, it's late
