Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

20) Anna Nicole Smith dies and no one can figure out who the father of her child is because she apparently slept with 1 out of every 10 adult males on the planet earth within 3 months of when her kid was conceived.

19) Larry Craig's "wide stance" got him into trouble in an airport bathroom.

18) Liberals rally for the right of black thugs to beat a white student unconscious with impunity in the Jena Six case.

17) Venezuela's commie strong man, Hugo Chavez, narrowly lost a rigged election that would have allowed him to become dictator for life. Look for liberals everywhere to point to that election as proof that he's honest when he narrowly engineers a victory in the next rigged election.

16) Scooter Libby had his sentence commuted by George Bush and when it's quiet, some say you can still hear the liberal screams of agony echoing in the distance from that night.

15) Al Gore received a Nobel Peace Prize, bizarrely, for spreading alarmist propaganda about global warming. That's a strong indication that either no one is doing much to promote peace these days or that Al Gore had pictures of all the judges partying a little too hard with Osama Bin Laden's old girlfriend, Bessie the goat.

14) All across America, people slammed their heads against the walls in frustration over a presidential political cycle that featured 15 plus candidates, none of whom they liked, starting to fight it out in January of 2007. When exactly did politics become a perpetual campaign and actual governance an issue of secondary importance?

13) One day, the French were cheese-eating surrender monkeys and then the next day, after Nicolas Sarkozy was elected -- well, they were still cheese-eating surrender monkeys, but we liked him enough to pretend not to notice.

12) Pervez Musharraf may be a son of a b*tch, but he's our son-of-a-b*tch. Unfortunately, our son-of-a-b*tch is barely keeping Pakistan under control because those radical Islamist and Al-Qaeda sons-of-a-b*tches are causing trouble. Dictators, terrorists, and nuclear weapons! Oh my!

11) It would be tempting to move the California wildfires higher up the list except that these massive fires now seem to occur there every 2 or 3 years.  Let's hope California has better luck over the next few years with these fires than they've had in recent years.

10) The whole embryonic stem cells vs. adult cells argument has become a moot point because scientific advances have now allowed adult stem cells to become as elastic as embryonic stem cells. On the upside, this means we can use stem cells without needing to destroy embryos. On the downside, for the Democrats at least, they won't get to run any Michael J. Fox embryonic stem cells commercials in next year's election.

9) In 2006, Americans were sick of the Republicans and so they handed over control of Congress to the Democrats, whom, as it turns out, they hated even more. Now, Congressional approval ratings have dropped to all-time lows and the Democrats are working overtime to set a record for unpopularity that may never again be matched in American history.

8) The Va. Tech massacre was notable not just because of the shocking number of people who were killed by deranged loner Cho Seung-Hui, but because for the first time, it sparked more calls to put an end to gun free zones than it did calls for gun control.

7) Tony Blair, a staunch friend of America and the third greatest European leader over the last hundred years, behind Churchill and Thatcher, finally ended his career as Prime Minister. When historians look back and try to figure out the official end date of America and Britain's "special friendship," that will likely be where they point.

6) The American people came to the conclusion that the "grand compromise" on immigration that the Democrats and Republicans settled on wasn't so "grand" after all. In fact, Americans spoke out against amnesty so vociferously that they literally broke the Capitol Hill switchboard on the day of the final vote. As a result, the amnesty bill went down to defeat and perhaps more importantly, many of the same politicians who were deriding Americans opposed to the bill as nativists and xenophobes, have now adopted the positions of the "nativists" and "xenophobes," as their own.

5) Most people seem to be highly dubious, with good reason, of the NIE report, which declared that Iran stopped working on their nuclear weapons back in 2003. However, whether people are skeptical of it or not, it essentially took bombing Iran off the table until the end of the Bush presidency.

4) Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky once wrote, "In the end they will lay their freedom at our feet and say to us, 'Make us your slaves, but feed us.'" That has now been played out in Russia, where the people have gone from being free men to willing slaves under the iron boot of Vladimir Putin, their new dictator for life.

3) The bad news is that China spent 2007 pouring various poisoned products into the US. The good news is that less than 1 out of every 100 products produced in China will kill you, your children, or your pets. That's China's pledge of quality to you!

2) Everyone is trying to figure out exactly who's to blame for the subprime mortgage crisis. Is it Congress? Is it the banks? Is it Bush? How about the people who got loans on houses that were way too expensive for them to afford -- oh, and the banks, too. I mean, come on, they should have known better than to lend money to those people.

1) To the dismay of many liberals, members of the mainstream press, and Democrats in Congress, our troops and David Petraeus -- or as they refer to him, General Betray-us -- have done a brilliant job of making the surge work in Iraq. The violence in that country has plunged, Al-Quaeda has been slaughtered, and it looks more likely each day that we're going to be able to pull our troops out and let the Iraqis take over without having the whole country collapse into chaos. Time will tell if the Iraqis can pull it off, but because of the success of the surge, we can say that we've done our part and then some to give them a fighting chance to keep their freedom.

Ref your "so did Newt". Your point is???

I am disgusted
I am completely disgusted by talisman's take on the Jena 6 case. How dare he try to paint that young man as a racist when there was never indication he was one. One thing is for sure, the black thugs who beat him were racists because they chose a random white to attack.

And surely talisman is aware that the white kid was not simply punched, yet he tries to slant the incident to make it seem like an innocent scuffle. Sadly, people like talisman who excuse the behaviors of people because of their race (and there is no other earthly reason for him to tell the story as he does) are the ones who perpetuate racism.

I would like for talisman to tell us exactly why he tried to paint a false picture here.

Sorry, Talisman, but I can't
Sorry, Talisman, but I can't reply to your whole post. As a matter of routine I stop reading anything that contains multiple factual errors in the first paragraph.

"A white boy gets punched for being a racist pig"
What racist pig stuff did the kid do? He was NOT one of the noose hangers, remember?

"the boy who punched him"
THE boy? Do you understand the significance of the word SIX as in "Jenna SIX"?

"accused of using a lethal weapon - his hand."
His shoe, actually, and I doubt the accusation would have been made if they (it was SIX, remember?) hadn't been stomping him after he was unconscious.

Do you really expect people to read things so obviously flawed and inaccurate?

wildwest
I see the same thing up here. I work in Baltimore where the outrage is high because a few thugs who beat a man into a coma (trying to kill him) had to be given plea deals because Baltimore juries cannot be relied upon to convict even the obviously guilty. Meanwhile there have been two other racial motivated beatings on busses in the city about which the same race hustlers are attempting to blame the victims? What were they doing there? Did they use the "n" word? Who the hell cares?!?!

fletch
it is reported that the congressional black caucus has approached the gov of louisiana about pardoning the jena 6. It appears the cult of racism knows no boundaries of decency. Fighting for the right of thugs to commit crimes of violence goes beyond the pale. The dims enable blacks to maintain the victim status and all of america pays. When is the media going to stop giving the race hustlers sharpton, jackson and the ncaap a platform from which they keep blaming whites for all their failures. Racism is alive and well but it comes from the black community who keep insisting that whites are all haters. But what it truly sad is that the dims and the clintons likewise keep this lie alive.

I stopped after the first one
A typical liberal liar strikes again:

"Let's begin with Hawkin's bigoted take on Jena Six. A white boy gets punched for being a racist pig and the boy who punched him is then accused of using a lethal weapon - his hand."

The facts: Justin Barker (never demonstrated to be racist in any way) was ambushed from behind, knocked unconscious and kicked and stomped repeatedly by six black youths (two of which had been directly involved in earlier racial incidents). The first youth tried in the case was charged with aggravated assault which requires the use of a "dangerous weapon". The prosecution argued that the assailant's SHOE (not his hand) when used to kick an unconscious victim met that standard.

talsiman is nothing more than another bigot who believes he can make up any idiocy he wants and actually be taken seriously. Obviously, he's delusional.

Talisman
17) Hugo's election WAS NOT rigged - otherwise he would've WON. Use Bush 2000 and 2004 for reference on "rigged elections". Also, Chavez graciously accepted the outcome - we should be so lucky with our own petulant boy king.
__________

Hey, Sean Penn, can I have your autograph? I'd like to hang it over my toilet so that everytime I defecate, I will think of you.

Wow, I've seen your name 100's of times on TH but I never bothered to read a word you ever said. I'm glad I did. I find liberal sheep quite entertaining.

Oh, and Merry Christmas! Yes...Christmas still exists.

Talisman
18) Let's begin with Hawkin's bigoted take on Jena Six. A white boy gets punched for being a racist pig and the boy who punched him is then accused of using a lethal weapon - his hand. And this from the crowd that not so long ago put sheets over their heads and hung innocent men.
______________

The white boy wasn't a racist pig...He was not involved with anything to do with the drama. But of course, he's a white guy, he MUST be a racist, right?

The boy who punched him? Try 5 boys who punched and kicked him and stomped on his head.

The first blow, the white boy was unconscious...In a professional fight, a knock out means "Fight's Over!"

But in mob thug mentality of the black guys, they kept on kicking and punching the unconscious white boy.

You know, if this is your first perception and your first commentary on the article...I will have to mark you on my "Liberal Moron List"

Hey, if Yasser "the
fudgepacker" Arafat and Jimmuh Carter can win a Nobel "Peace" Prize, seems to me that AlGore would be a natural as well.....

By the way, ExWyomite, GREAT POST!!

ex-Wyomingite
That last missive you wrote will go down as the BEST explanation of King Gore's demons.

You have pegged it in one fell swoop.

(salute, along with evil grin) ;-)

what these threads continually prove is that like all children who must be kept away from sharp objects, libs must be protected from self inflicted wounds. And still the libs line up like sheep to be told how to live their lives. But being perpetual children they want to be free from making any decisions nor do they ever want to be held accountable for all the poor choices they make. Unfortunately for us they never shut up

Citizen Carrier
I thought your rebuttal to Talisman was spot on. I wonder if he had a good supply of paper towels to wipe all the drool off of his face. Him and MLD are both the same. They both remind me of little dogs that all they do is bark at you. Proves the old adage that there bark is worse than their bite.

John Hawkins should have waited
What about Congress submitting a bill that basically destroys the Secure Fence Act just recently to insure the fence doesn't get built as demanded by 70% of Americans.

How about a Congressional committee "Demonrats again", changed the wording, after a vote in Congress, which violates the concept of the law for which it was named in regarding earmark transparency, which actually provides These Crooks in Congress - NO TRANSPARENCY.

What about Congress changing the votes on the floor in July or August this year. Something that has never happened in America's History. Talk about Demonrats Corruption.

What about Pelosi violating the Logan Act and visiting Foreign Countries and then not be arrested and charged. Is Pelosi above the LAW?

How about Reid, Pelosi, Murtha, and other prominent Demonrats emboldening our Enemies and declaring the WAR in Iraq as unwinnable.

How about the Shoddy representation that the MSM provides to Americans in reporting Honest Truth. Their Liberal Bias and outright misrepresentations should be a major story every week.

What about Bushing signing the Energy Bill and violating all Americans.

What about the Demonrats in Congress attempting to eliminate Secret Ballots for Unions.

What about the Demonrats in Congress attempting to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, which is a violation of our First Admendment and Free Speech.

What about the Demonrats attacks almost daily on our Second Admendment the right to bear arms.

What about Arnold Schwarzenegger signing some disgusting Gay & lesbian bills into law and the Fight in Illinois where the School is providing to children info on how to have safe anal sex.

Why these were listed is way beyond me:
Nicole Smith, Al Gore, Larry Craig, Hugo Chavez.

After reviewing this LIST, I come to ONE CONCLUSION - Time to remove Congress and time to remove DEMONRATS and glad GWB is leaving soon.

Top Stories
Al Gore received a Nobel Peace Prize. A few months following his lost to President Bush in the 2000 election, algore looked as though he had consumed 10,000 pizzas. algore must have thought it was the Nobel Pizza Prize he wanted to win.

When exactly did politics become a perpetual campaign and actual governance an issue of secondary importance? john edwards has been on a perpetual campaign for President since the days the residents of North Carolina absurdly chose him as a Senator. They recognized their error and wisely, edwards chose not to seek a second term, which he would have lost handily. edwards is about as bad as adli stevenson as the perpetual candidate.

Everyone is trying to figure out exactly who's to blame for the sub-prime mortgage crisis. Has the name Karl Rove slipped the memory of the democrats and the MSM so quickly? I thought Rove was responsible for every error or false claim of am error known to modern man.

Good point
The writer's strike should at LEAST tie with Anna Nicole Smith's story as one of the top 20.

The headline could read "Writer's Go on Strike, Shows put on Hiatus, America finds Something else to do"

It is heartening to see self-professed liberals like that showing their solidarity with union workers by scabbing their way back on television.

The list is too early
Just shortly after reading this list, I ran across the 'news' that the great mainstream liberals of our time, Jon Stewart, Colbert, Letterman, et al have decided they should return to television, with or without their writers.

In true liberal style, supporting rights and dictating behavior of people lasts until it hurts the liberal....

Maybe next year's list.

"Oh, man. Oh, where to start??"

You could have stopped right there and simply provided links to DailyKos, moveon/org and the DNC, not to mention CNN, MSNBC and a host of other "balanced, un-biased" sources.

But keep writing and holding up your end of being a stereotypical BDS-afflicted moonbat! You are doing a Nobel Prize winning job.

Jackass...

taliban boy
aren't you just another whining loser from harlem. Not wonder you love the missus clinton and her promises to give your ilk more handouts. We'd ask you to man up but in your community that is more akin to making babies not accepting responsibility for your poor decisions. But if you love socialism so much why not take your sorry losing behind to sweden. They welcome your type of loser daily and have no problem putting you on the public teat. That is why you always talk of your dislike for repubs and conservs. We espect you to do the one thing you hate most, taking care of yourself and assuming the respoinsibility for your poor decisions. But you would rather society continue to change your soiled diapers.

citizen carrier
your comments the other day concerning the missus clinton and her lack of principles were some of the most astute and precise reasons NO one should ever vote gor this loser. Keep up the good work

mavtek
congress makes the list as they didn't assume power until jan 07

FRIENDS
don't lose your time trying to put some logic into sCrewed-up (rather "unscrewed") liberal's two gray cells!!!

pandm
You write: The democrats that were the KKK stopped hanging people years ago.

You are correct - they now enjoy using flames as they did with the children, their mothers & fathers in Waco.

Oh Man, Tailsman
Where to start!

For you. Right at the bottom.

20. You're an idiot!

19. You're a pretentious idiot. Far greater sin than just being a regular idiot, btw.

18. You're a member of a club whose members are a bunch of snarky, sniveling little worms. Each club member states daily: "I Hate President Bush So Much I'm Going To Stamp My Little Feet And Cry My Whittle, Bittle Heart Out. I'm Going To Hold My Breath Till I'm Blue In The Face."
Ahh. I could almost cry for you. Almost.

17. See No. 20.

16. See No. 20.

15. See No. 20.

14. You're filled with hate for our president and America. However, there is someone you hate more. Yourself!

13. See No. 20.

12. See No. 20.

11. You hate TH. The fact TH exists just eats your heart out. After you recite your "I Hate Bush" motto, it's on to an "I Hate TH" motto. Then to your PC where you click-on.......TH, of course.

How do you like the list so far? I think it's marvelous.

10. For 10 right up to 1, see No. 20. I like No. 20! It's short and sweet. Spot on, too.

On Hawkins' Number 1 story of 2007
Speaking of "non-stories", why is the MSM not covering what is happening in southern Iraq as the Brits scale back their presence? I hear Shia militias control much of the south, and Iran exerts more influence there than the Baghdad government.

Also, why so little reporting on the Turkish attack on Iraqi Kurds in the north, and why has the reaction of the Baghdad government to an attack upon its citizens been so muted?

Granted there are good things happening in Iraq now. Violence in Anbar and parts of Baghdad is down. This is due to the surge, change of attitude of Anbar sunnis toward Al Qaida, AND due to systematic ethnic cleansing where shias have largely been forced out of sunni areas, and sunnis havae been forced out of shia areas, leaving fewer reasons for attacks or violence.

Many say MSM is guilty of underreporting the positive on Iraq. And there may be some truth to that.

But the underreporting on problems in southern Iraq and on the lack of Iraqi Kurdish allegiance to the Baghdad government are examples where the MSM is not covering negative developments in Iraq.

talisman
Xenophobes? That's the pot calling the kettle black. For over thirty years I've watched with open-mouthed amazement as those left of center continue to hate the sports that foreigners like. (And I've also seen lots of people I had dismissed as close-minded turn out to like those same sports.)

C'mon. When are "progressives" going to demand that our media treat soccer the same way that they treat our sports? When that happens, I'll stop calling leftists xenophobes.

talisman
The democrats that were the KKK stopped hanging people years ago.
And, a few have become good citizens.
And yes, they were democrats.

They're in
the right order, at least, I think.

hey no evil atheists!
WOW thinking this was townhall I was expecting at least one of the 20 to be Satan channeling to produce bestselling evil stupid foolish atheist books that were brilliantly demolished singlehandedly by the great intellectual Dinesh Desouza! No townhall article is complete without the compulsory atheist bashing!

Top non-stories
The good news in Iraq should more correctly be called a non-story. Where in the MSM can you actually find accounts of the surge working?

Second non-story is the economy. Low unemployment, continued growth, strong corporate earnings. Where oh where has the media gone?

Non-story three is lame-duck Bush kicking Donkey a--. Democratic leadership is so inept that they are making Carter look good. Reid thinks he's winning but we know how out of whack his concept of losing is.

Four. Just when will Hillary get a hard question from MSM? Does nothing in her past deserve investigating? Does her using admitted criminals (Sandy Berger & Slick Willy) as top advisors indicate that felons have a place in her Whiite House?

Five. Islamic terrorists. Sorry can't even use those works together in MSM.

Cyclist
You just don't get it.

See, Talisman can argue that the Venezuelan vote wasn't rigged because it obviously didn't succeed in achieving Hugo's goal.

At the same time and in the same post he can argue that the latest NIE report from our intelligence agencies--all of which are under the operational control of the Executive Branch and all of whose heads serve at the President's pleasure--proves that Bush was lying.

Yes, the same Bush that Talisman also accused of stealing the elections of 2000 and 2004 can't seem to even rig a simple NIE report in order to support his warmongering aims towards Iran.

He can steal two elections, but he can't get a bunch of guys he HIRED and who take their orders from him to misrepresent Iran's nuclear program.

Pretty much the same people he supposedly got to lie about Iraq's WMD programs.

Yup. That's how the rationale works in the land of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Diebold
Has anyone checked to see if Venezuela used Diebold voting machines? Is there going to be a Jimmy Carter investigation into voting irregularities in certain neighborhoods of Caracas? Were the senior citizens confused by the ballot in that they thought they were voting for Chavez when they really weren't?

Talisman
"THIS is why the GOP will lose big next year. THIS."

Yes. Faced with an overpowering legislative "onslaught" from the most unpopular Congress in American history armed with it's message of tax increases and caving to Bush on every Iraq funding bill and led by either a misanthropic woman with historic negative popularity numbers or a junior Senator lightweight with one of the most liberal voting records...the GOP is going to lose BIG TIME!

Talisman
"6) Still just about misinformed and grossly ignorant xenophobes ("fascists wannabes" is another way to put it)"

I'll try to remember this if I'm ever critically injured in a car accident with a drunk illegal without liability insurance while I'm riding in the ambulance for several more miles than would otherwise be necessary if the hospital closest to me hadn't gone bankrupt from unpaid illegal immigrant medical bills...

"5) John must mean 'most people' from the wingnutty 24-percenters, right? Because in reality, 'most people' are DEEPLY DISTURBED by the NIE report and what it says about our LYING Bush administration."

Of course, when these same intelligence bureaus who produced that NIE are supposedly the same ones who colluded with or were coerced BY Bush to "lie" about WMDs in Iraq, they were obviously part of the problem.

Now that those same groups have re-evaluated Iran's capabilities, it obviously proves that Bush was lying.

So why didn't Bush just have these groups lie about Iran too? Did Bush just decide to stop lying? Or did he appoint new people to these groups who weren't going to just say whatever Bush told them to say?

If so, why would Bush ever appoint such people?

Gosh this is confusing...

Talisman
"And we have lax Bush administration government regulations in place to thank for the poisoned toys, pet food and whatever else we've yet to hear about."

I guess when Clinton signed the bill in October of 2000 extending permanent normal trade relations with China their products were lead-free and beneficial to health? Uh huh.

"The banks, under Bushco, screwed over the people who took those loans..."

Wow, our banks are actually run by Bush? Man, I really need to re-read the Constitution. All kinds of enumerated powers I've missed the first time I read it.

I suppose we CAN blame the President when people take out a variable rate loan they can't afford just because the Prez said he'd like to see more homeowners in America.

We CAN do that...provided we are complete dolts.

The new bill that is supposed to correct this requires that banks consider whether the lendee can afford to repay the loan before they approve it. So much for individual responsibility.

How long to you think it will be before some liberal calls our banks racist because they start refusing loans to people who can't repay

Talisman
"And this from the crowd that not so long ago put sheets over their heads and hung innocent men."

Would this also be the same crowd that likes to paint with broad strokes and perpetuate stereotypes?

"...losers (men and women alike) still slavishly brandish the extensions of their manhood out of fear. Bizarre, huh?"

Does this go for cops too? I guess not. Luckily, cops are the only people in America who encounter violent crime, so their carrying guns cannot be put down to paranoia and machismo. The rest of us live in a world free of physical violence, so our gun ownership is merely a coverup for feelings of inadequacy.

The hundreds of women who will use a firearm to prevent themselves from being raped next year will need to be reminded they only kept the guns because they were afraid. Regular women would rely on their house keys jutting between their knuckles to ward off the rapist who is 60 lbs heavier than them and probably lifts weights.

part tres

1) What Bush and General Betray Us did with the surge is far from "brilliant". In fact, the Bush/Betrayus surge has effectively given way for genocide - how brilliant is THAT? The true purpose of the "Surge" has not been accomplished at all, and in fact the government is in utter shambles. Is violence down? Yes. Big whoop. The country is devastated. One can argue that violence is down because of ethnic cleansing success. It is madness to claim victory and success when so much is wrong with this mess in Iraq - that Bush&Co have wrought. THIS is why the GOP will lose big next year. THIS.

Oh, man.
Oh, where to start??

18) Let's begin with Hawkin's bigoted take on Jena Six. A white boy gets punched for being a racist pig and the boy who punched him is then accused of using a lethal weapon - his hand. And this from the crowd that not so long ago put sheets over their heads and hung innocent men.

17) Hugo's election WAS NOT rigged - otherwise he would've WON. Use Bush 2000 and 2004 for reference on "rigged elections". Also, Chavez graciously accepted the outcome - we should be so lucky with our own petulant boy king.

16) Libby's crime was commuted by his crime boss to KEEP HIM QUIET. Allowing the criminal Scooter to go to jail - as was his due for breaking the law - would've had him singing the truth to any one available in record time about the Bush/Cheney/Rove crimes against a CIA operative working undercover on WMD detail.

15) Al Gore did win a major award for his work on global warming. When it's quiet, you can hear the wingnuts screams of agony at being thumped by the only President of the USA who was legitimately elected in 2000.

14)-10) zzzzz --- sorry, I fell asleep

9) It is true that the Repugs were thrown out of the majority based on voter disgust. It is not true that Dems are unpopular. They are being encouraged STRONGLY SO to stand up to the bullies that are OBSTRUCTING legislation based on rabid ideology and loyalty to a failed preznit. No one is fooled by the GOP's ridiculously destructive tactics to undermine the Congress, all the while taking our country down with their
mean-spirited vengeance.

Probably the same thing...
...that continued to make Hurricane Katrina a top story in 2007.

And why didn't Al Gore get the Nobel Prize for Science?

Oh, his...movie...doesn't exactly stand up to scientific inquiry. I wonder if they would have given Einstein the Nobel for the Photoelectric Effect if his research in it contained as many inaccuracies as Gore's movie?

Probably not. So why not instead award it a Peace Prize? Anyone care to speculate on how many wars WON'T be fought because Gore's movie has pacified warlike nations and cultures?

Duh
The election may have been in '06 but many of the dastardly things congress has done have been in '07, as has their record low approval ratings.

Huhm
Call me Mr. Obvious, but how is the election of 06' one of the top stories of 07'?
