Anti-war Leftists take careful aim, shoot selves in the foot once again

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Anti-war Leftists take careful aim, shoot selves in the foot once again. It’s no secret that the Democrats and the rest of the anti-war Left are still upset over the "swiftboating" of their Presidential nominee in 2004. Heck, they’re not over the 500 votes and hanging chads in Florida yet, so it would be pretty foolish to expect them to get over a bigger loss four years later – especially when such a large part of it (in their minds) stemmed from some squeaky-wheel veterans who just wouldn’t shut up and let their Vietnam veteran candidate continue to portray himself as a military hero.

As the Iraq war (and the debate surrounding it) has raged on in the years since, the Left has been trying harder and harder to claim the moral high ground with regard to the treatment and use of US troops, both by championing the few it can find who oppose the War on Terror, and by attempting to marginalize those who dare speak out against them.

A major problem with this strategy, though, comes from the overall ignorance on the part of the anti-war, anti-military Left to nearly any aspect of military or veterans’ affairs. From championing the likes of John Murtha (D-PA) as a paragon of patriotism and as an idolized military hero, to ignoring those real heroes whose politics don’t quite line up with the Democratic party line, the Left suffers from a fundamental lack of subject matter understanding, which, combined with the employment of the usual ham-handed tactics, often cause the Left’s continuous attempts to re-frame the debate surrounding America’s national security, the War on Terror, and respect for US troops to result simply in further setbacks to their cause.

The L.A. Times recently provided an excellent example of the Leftist tendency to load up their assault rifle, take careful aim at the right, and then deposit round after round in their own foot.

Last week, Times columnist Rosa Brooks, in a fit of continued rage over the use of John Kerry’s own words and actions to sink his presidential bid (i.e., the right’s "swiftboating" of him and his candidacy), lashed out at a panel which had appeared at CPAC to discuss "The Left's Repeated Campaign Against the American Soldier." Her invective included calling panel participants "key" members of "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the right-wing goon squad whose defamatory insinuations helped sink John Kerry's presidential campaign."

Her column, entitled "The Lunatic Right Returns," continued:

What's depressing about the reemergence of the Swifties, though, is that it's symbolic of the increasing takeover of the "conservative" movement by unprincipled, right-wing extremists.

Among these "extremists" Ms. Brooks so loathes (and lumps in as a "key discredited Swift boater") is retired Air Force Colonel George E. "Bud" Day. Who is that, you ask? Well, you might remember the name if you were alive during Vietnam, or if you pay any attention whatsoever to military history. However, if you don’t know who he is, here’s a down-and-dirty on a real American hero. According to the USAF’s Air University website, Colonel Day earned "nearly 70 decorations and awards, of which more than 50 [were] for combat" (and one was the Medal of Honor). He's logged 5,000 career flying hours, including combat duty in WWII, in Korea, and in Vietnam. After being shot down in 1967, Day suffered as a POW for 67 months (that's five and one-half years for the mathematically challenged), with a two week "respite" after escaping from the North Vietnamese, during which, despite serious injury, he evaded the enemy all the way back into South Vietnam, "earning the distinction of being the only prisoner to escape from North Vietnam" - only to be recaptured and imprisoned until March 1973.

Colonel Day embodies the true essence of the phrase "Return with Honor," which is why, in 1997, the Air Force named its newest SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) school building after him.

As "Jason" from the weblog Iraq Now! says, “This is the man who LA Times columnist Rosa Brooks calls an ‘unprincipled, right-wing extremist’.”

But Ms. Brooks continues:

It's not hard to visualize the right-wing talking points that will emerge from this [panel]. The Swift boaters will be dusting off their 2004 scripts and reaching back still further to dredge up their Vietnam-era notes. Expect to see all the old myths revived: The antiwar left spits on returning troops and gives aid and comfort to the enemy. Oh, John Murtha, why do you hate our brave troops?

The antipathy and condescension for those troops who simply aren’t "enlightened" enough to renounce violence and become dyed-in-the-wool anti-war Liberals drips from Ms. Brooks’s words, as she forsakes facts for the sake of a good meme. The degradation of our troops as they returned home from Vietnam – a proud chapter in the history of America’s anti-war, anti-military lefties – has been treated by Democrats increasingly like a preposterous myth propagated by the chickenhawking Right of late, despite the fact that such instances of troops being assaulted, spit on, and otherwise defiled are a very real part of the historical record.

As to "brave John Murtha," whom liberals hold up as their example of Democratic military heroism, "Jason" has this to say:

Oh, and I can't say that John Murtha hates our troops. He just wants them to lose, by stripping them of needed funding in the heat of battle - funding which translates to such minor items as equipment, ammunition, reinforcements, reserves, and food.

But facts, as always, get too much in the way of a good story – and of a good expression of hatred. Therefore, Ms. Brooks simply can’t be expected to abide by them.

Though she and her employers at the Times doubtless published this column with the belief that none would question their yeomen’s work on the part of the anti-war Left, they actually accomplished just the opposite. As Jason so aptly puts it:

"In the process of disparaging a panel entitled "The Left's Repeated Campaign Against the American Soldier" [Rosa Brooks] manages to serve up – drumroll, please – an ignorant smear campaign against America's most decorated living serviceman. (emphasis added)

If the Times has an ounce of conscience, they will disavow Ms. Brooks's comments immediately, if they do not go further (as they should) and remove her from the payroll. Furthermore, Senator Kerry and Representative Murtha need to repudiate this slander of a fellow Vietnam veteran – as does every other Democrat politician who claims to care about America and her troops (and for whom Ms. Brooks attempts to speak).

The clock is ticking. We are waiting. Surely the Left will defend a veteran and a real hero (who does not share their political views) as quickly, and with as much gusto, as they have a less-distinguished one of their own in the past. Surely they will repudiate this hackish attempt to marginalize non-Liberal servicemen and to ridicule the idea that the Left would ever slander the troops, which consisted (in typical lefty fashion) of a slandering of the most highly-decorated living American serviceman.

Surely they will do the right thing in this situation.

Won't they?

I think not.
The left defend a real hero? Don't hold your breath.

And as always, I'd like to thank all our service men and women, past and present, for bravely serving our country in spite of disgusting and unpatriotic domestic abuse.

The sun will rise in the west
ans the moon in the north, rivers will run backwards and all the rats and mice will join the left in making that defense...and h*ll will freeze over

my two cents
I have noticed the word 'swiftboating' more and more. I take it that this is meant to imply some sort of smear tactic, because according to those who use the word like that the Swiftboat Veterans smeared John Kerry's war record in 2004 with the book 'Unfit For Command'. (Not unlike Borking)

I am given to understand that at some point a few points made in the book were incorrect. The left, naturally took this as an indicator that the WHOLE book is just a smear.

So there's something ELSE for us all to argue about.

So here's my idea - If Senator Kerry truly believes that the book was a smear on his record as a war hero, let him meet the authors in a debate and hash it out.

And after that let him meet with some of the men who were in North Vitnamese prison camps when Kerry testified in front of the Fulbright Committee in 1971 and called them war criminals. Let them "testify" about how much worse his testimony - never proved by the way - made their already miserable lives. (Stolen Honor - Wounds That Will Not Heal) One might say that these men were "Kerryed" if one were of such a bent.

Bring it on, Senator.

Hold On Here...

Col. Day's being a war hero doesn't preclude his also being
a right-wing extremist. What he did during the Vietnam War
has no bearing on his politics thirty years down the road.

I certainly mean no disrespect to Col. Day, and I have no
reason to believe he's an extremist of any sort. It's Jeff
Emanuel's reasoning that I'm taking issue with here. Whether
intentionally nor not, Emanuel is employing the liberal tactic
of holding up someone who's believed to be morally untouchable
as a way of stifling debate -- cf. Cindy Sheehan, the "Witches
Of East Hampton," etc.

A new verb
Lets add the new verb to the Websters dictionary. Swiftboating: 1)The act of calling a liar a liar by presenting facts that show the liar to be a liar. 2) The demistifing of a pompous as@ who looks french.

CB
I expect Jeff Emanuel's credentials are a bit more notable than, say, Ms. Sheehan or yourself.

To quote:

In addition, he is a contributing editor for conservative web log RedState.com, and is a columnist for the Athens, GA Banner-Herald newspaper.

There is no evidence of Col. Day's being a 'right-wing extremist', whatever that might be. That seems to be the label hung on anyone with a military background who calls out Kerry for what he was.

"Brave John Murtha"?
If one confuses BRASENNESS with BRAVERY, then Murtha has indeed shown some--the fact that he was VIDEOTAPED saying "not interested in taking bribe AT THIS TIME" (the only ways that can be translated are "would be interested in different circumstance" or "need to make bribe bigger")--and then RERUNNING for Congressional seat!

Murtha's constituents must rank behind Indian Tamils (in large group, on home-ground) on the "stupidest voters" list.

Ad hominem. Not to mention irrelevant and pompous.

Well, bully for Jeff Emanuel. You're saying that Emanuel has
those credentials, therefore he's incapable of flawed reasoning?
On what sacred stone tablet is that cosmic TRVTH inscribed, pray
tell?

You seem to have difficulty with reading comprehension --
not to mention critical thinking.

I never suggested that Col. Day might really be an extremist,
right-wing or otherwise. In fact, I went out of my way to
make that clear in the second paragraph of my previous posting.

My point is that contrary to what Emanuel was implying, if
Day *isn't* a right-wing extremist, it isn't because he's a
war hero. His being a war hero is neither here nor there in
that regard. And also, that the only reason to trumpet Day's
heroism would be to use it as a moral bludgeon, not unlike the
way the left uses Cindy Sheehan's status as a mother who lost
a son in a war.

If Col. Day isn't a right-wing extremist, then surely better
and more relevant evidence of it can be offered up.

Too late
The Jeff Emanuel take down already happened. Oliver North also had medals and also betrayed his country, a regular Benedict Arnold.

Creighton Beryll
I am not sure I know what cosntitutes an extremist in Ms. Brooks world, but it denotes condescension when you call someone an extremist. It means I am not willing to take on his beliefs so I will minimize them with name calling. On top of this she calls him "unprincpled". He may be on the right, but how in God's name can you call a man like this unprincipled. The fact is they have different principles. She hates his. The man suffered and served his country in ways Ms. Brooks can never even comprehend let alone match(not many can) for his principles, which are honor, duty and country. The point is, who is she to condescend to this man's beliefs and insult him as unprincipled. She would be far better argue her beliefs than denigrate his.

LGM opines:
"Oliver North also had medals and also betrayed his country, a regular Benedict Arnold...."

LGM... I'll bet if you or you family was about to be attacked by a terrorist, you'd thank your lucky stars to have Oliver North standing between you and the terrorist.

If not, than you're just a liberal drone, or a jackass (sorry for the redundancy)!

John Kerry = Traitor
John Kerry is not a military hero, he is a traitor. He was kicked out of the military for working with the enemy during war - North Vietnamese in France. This is the reason he will not release his military records.

The Swift Boaters were right about John Kerry. If they were wrong, JK would be happy to release his military records and prove them wrong. He know his military record, which is why he won't release it.

The fact that the media hasn't called him on it is the best example of liberal media bias I can think of. Especially when you consider how hard the media worked to discredit George Bush. Going so far as to invest false evidence against George Bush - Dan Rather. Of course, the left thinks that Dan Rather and similar traitor journalist Walter Kronkite are heros.

The real radicals
This attempt to label those who oppose the Iraq War as leftists gets to be annoying after awhile.

I'm not a leftist and view the war as a stupid blunder. Everyone agrees that Saddam was evil, but it was crazy to attack when he was doing nothing to us. In fact, he was a buffer against Iran, despised by bin Laden, and kept a lid on Sunnis, the Shia and Kurds.

The problem: radicals seized control of our government long enough to push us into war. They are subdivided into three main groups that overlap sometimes: (1) oil barons and other corporation titans like Cheney who love money and power; (2) neo-cons like Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Abrams, Wurmser and such; (3) those high up in the military and military hardware makers for whom war is the thing!

The most radical of this number probably are the neo-cons, many of them ex-Communists of the Trotskyite variety, the kind who promoted world revolution and domination. They may have dropped the revolution part but push the domination thing. Many of them are influenced by a blind loyalty to Israel and always are ready to expend US blood and money to benefit their 'homeland'. Double loyalty.

I know such a charge will be dismissed as anti-Semitism in some circles, but it's a simple fact. There are many others Jews, of course, who recognize that our foolish intervention in Iraq is much more likely to hurt Israel in the long run and not help it. The pathway to Israeli security is peace and justice. How does the continual expansion of settlements on the West Bank contribute to either? It was Israeli arrogance and occupation that started this whole Muslim terrorist thing in the first place. USA needs to be genuinely pro-Israel AND pro-Palestinian. There's no other way.

Back to reiterate our main point. Many of us supported taking out the terrorist nests in Afghanistan, but thought the war in Iraq was outrageous, and we are not the least bit leftist. We simply want American policy to be smart, in our national interest, and victorious. We're in a mess now, deep in quicksand, a smelly swamp, a diversion from our real enemy, with serious consequences, regardless of what we do. Brave men and women killed or maimed for life. Thouands of 'liberated' and innocent Iraqis slaughtered. Hatred against us around the world. A constantly soaring nation debt. I blame many Democrats, too, who went along out of conviction or fear. We need to clean house in Washington, and toss 75% of them out on their rear ends!

Keep smiling - regardless.

Oliver North worked in his country's interests and against
those of its enemies. You may not have liked the way he
went about it, but that doesn't change his intent.

Anyway, what does Oliver North have to do with the matter
at hand?

Roy, Iraq is a democratic bookend...
to an encycplopedia of Islamofacist tyranny that is Iran. Afghanistan is the OTHER bookend.

The Iranian people will see their neighbors to the east and to the west living and thriving under a democracy and want it for themselves.

This is why we didn't attack Iran directly. Iran must crumble from within. The Iraq/Iran war from 20 years ago left the country in too strong of a military state for it to be the sand castle that Iraq proved to be in 2003.

This is an attempt on GWB's part to build a collection of democratic dominos and to watch countries embrace democracy much like the liberals like JFK and LBJ warned us of communism in S.E. Asia in the '60s.

Exactly. It's characteristic of liberals to demonize those
who disagree with them. They believe themselves to have
exclusive claim to the moral high ground, therefore anyone
with a differing opinion is immoral and therefore evil and
contemptible.

This attitude -- along with their general puerility -- explains
why it is that in online debates, liberals are often nasty and
hostile right out of the gate. And it's why, come the Revolution,
they're going to be rounded up and sent up the chimneys.

-CB-

Roy

You say we are hated around the world? With the exception of France, and the Middle Eastern countries, it is just not true.

I read that John Kerry told a group of foreigners (??(UN)??) a couple weeks ago that we are hated around the world, obviously he would know, right? Wrong he is. He just assumes that since the North Vietnamese and Chinese hated us during the Vietnam War that it must mean the rest of the world hates us as well. Kerry is an idiot, as well as a traitor.

Traveling around the world as I do, I am met with kindness and respect from people in such disparate countries as Japan, Hong Kong, Kenya, England, Thailand, Peru and even Canada. (I am a white male who could not be confused for being anything other than an American.)

I have yet to be protested, attacked or spit upon by anyone not American; those seems to be American anti-war tactics.

For you to use John Kerry's words of stupidity without providing any proof, as he provided none, is ignorant. Please refute your words, or provide some experience to prove them.

Creighton Beryll
I checked Col Bud Day online; he's 82 years old, and not particularly politically active.

But the burden of proof here, surely, must be on the person making the charge in the first place, wouldn't you say? It was Ms. Brooks who identified the emerging Swiftboat Vets as "unprincipled" and "extreme right-wingers."

The truly disgusting act here is the smearing of the SVT. I remember reading their comments in 2004, and I just reread them now. They're ANYTHING but political. Their primary objection is about Kerry's betrayal of the military after returning from Vietnam; this is not a set of actions that is in any way in doubt. The claim that these men were lying about Kerry is a clear attempt at character assassination.

My comment to my left-wing buddies after the 2004 campaign was that the veterans' objection to Kerry as a candidate was the most predictable political event of the last 30 years. They were screaming about Karl Rove and dirty tricks, and I couldn't do anything but shake my head and chuckle; it would have taken a miracle for Kerry to run and there NOT be some sort of objection from veterans' groups.

Roy

It's telling (and not in a good way) that liberals
are so concerned about whether America is hated by
people from other countries. They never seem to
stop and consider whether that hatred is justified
-- and if it isn't, to disregard it.

Liberals are like a bunch of insecure high schoolers
who want desperately to be liked by the kids they
consider "cool." Principles take a distant back seat
to peer approval. Like the way liberals are reflexively
antiauthoritarian and are hung up on hypocrisy, this is
yet more evidence that they're really just superannuated
adolescents. They should be taken about as seriously as that
implies.

I like jmag's verb
Excellent!

And:
RICK: your bookend analogy is great. Also the nicest. most succinct explanation I've seen. Kudos to you

Otherwise, there's little to be said on this subject.

I'm smiling, Roy:
Mostly at your assertion that the US needs to
be "pro-Israel AND pro-Palestinian." As I re-
collect, Clinton brokered a deal that would
have given the Palestinians a state on very
nearly their own terms. They refused, prefer-ring to continue murdering innocents and to
insist that Israel has no right to exist.

Remember when Palestinians poured into the
streets to celebrate the savage mass murders
of 9/11? I'll never forget it; to me it seems
they showed their true face that day.

No,Roy - what the US REALLY needs to do is to
deal, once and for all, with the terror-mongers
who run the ENTIRE Middle East. It's a good
and necessary thing that Saddam is gone. It'll
be a good thing when the mad mullahs of Tehran
are gone.

Doing the Right Thing
Jeff, sure they will.........Nah.

Dems have their own definition of hero
We know what a hero is to the Democrats. Kerry turned his back on his comrades, this country, his leaders and says he threw his metals over the wall of the White House. John Kerry is a cerfified hero to the anti war leftist, the Democrats, and the media. Just enlisting because you used up all you options to get out of serving, gets you hero status in the Democratic party. Murtha compared our troops to Nazi's because of the way he said we were treating the enemy combatants at Gitmo. Murtha gained overnight hero status for standing up to our troops and condenming this country. Big mouth Murtha is now considered a military genius by the Democrats. The Democrats have always jumped on the opportunity to declare one of their own as a hero, because in the back of their minds they know, their anti American attitude and a lack of patriotism constantly follows them around where ever they go. So, before anyone can call them unpatriotic for their actions, like those of John Kerry and Murtha, the Democrats and the media labels them as heros. Just today Joe Biden said someone finally has the COURAGE to stand up to President Bush. Courage? Why is it the Democrats can find all the courage in the world, to attack President Bush, our troops, and the war in Iraq, and they can't even muster up a complaint against the terrorist. There are no great military men to the Democrats. Their hatred of the military, their ideology, and their takeover by the anti war leftist won't allow it.

Re hatred of US - and Palestinian issue
The USA is hated around the world, as a recent polls indicated. Israel, North Korea, and USA were the most unpopular (Israel at the bottom, and I may have omitted one other that slips my mind). This attitude rarely extends to Americans. I have traveled widely - for examples, China, India, Japan, just about every country in Europe, etc., and come a town just south of the Canadian border. Bush and our present regime is regarded as irresponsible to the point of being scary. I was treated fine because they also know that many Americans also disapprove of Bush & Co. on the war issue. The one nation where I encountered outright hostility expressed to me personally has been Egypt.

As for building democracy, who are we kidding? We supported Saddam when he was gassing Iranians and Kurds. We support regimes in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc. We even play footsie with China. Our only criterion seems to be: are they for us? We care very little as to whether they are democratic or not. This whole notion that democracies don't start wars is questionable. Look at us in Iraq? And contrary to popular opinion, Israel attacked its neighbor(s) in 1956, 1967, and 1982 - plus its disproportional invasion of Lebanon last summer. Most Americans have been blinded by bigoted propaganda aimed at demonizing the Palestinians.

This argument that Israel was ready to give Arafat just about everything he wanted when Clinton was president is false. Look at the map of what Palestine was going to look like, with Israel settlements and security roads all over the place. Besides, the so-called peace plan actually was never offered Arafat. Another propaganda gimmick. Our delegation of three all were soundly pro-Israeli, all Jews, led by Ross what's-his-name who has been a big propagandist ever since. Why would Clinton send three Zionists to negotiate instead of less biased representatives? He was getting money, of course, from Marc Rich, etc - and much more to this whole scenario.

Again, I am not at all anti-Israel. The Israelis now have a state, and it needs recognition. But Israel needs to stop digging its own grave. Just today they refused to negotiate again with a unity Palestinian government. Why not talk? Because Israel lives high off the hog largely because of US generosity and support, while the Palestinians suffer deprivation and humiliation. How does that contribute toward peace? Read the writings of Rabbi Michael Lerner and other Jews who understand the situation. I have been to the Holy Land four times and have witnessed the injustice directed against Christians and Muslims in the occupied territories. Read what the Christian leadership in the Holy Land have to say about the occupation. Unfortunately our press doesn't dare give us the full picture or (as in the case of such tablids as the NYPost) they are run by rabid Zionists. Palestinians have their land taken from them, financed by USA, then face 40 years of occupation. No, suicide bombers are not the way, and I condemn them, but neither are tanks, planes, and cluster bombs used by Israelis to kill three times the number of Palestinians as have been killed by suicide bombers.

What a great contribution to peace we could make if we went into that situation with an open mind and a honest desire to assist both Israelis and Palestinians. I've become quite cynical as to the possibility of this happening. Hope you read the study of Israeli lobby influence by the two courageous professors (Harvard and Chicago), a study given very little attention. I'm sure demands have been made to get rid of them.

Wake up, America. Was it Hitler, or maybe Goebbels, who said that if you tell a lie often enough people will believe it.

Meanwhile, keep smiling.

Re: Re hatred of US - and Palestinian is

Roy writes:

> As for building democracy, who are we kidding? We supported

We supported Saddam at that time because Iran was an adversary
and Iraq was not. Iran was a greater threat to our national
interests than Saddam's gassing of the Kurds and Iranians, as
terrible as it may have been, was an affront to our national
ideals. That doesn't mean we didn't, or don't, support demo-
cracy or believe in building it.

It's a matter of priorities. Addressing threats to our national
security and/or national interests must take a higher priority
than indulging in feelgood enterprises that showcase our geopo-
litical ideals. We seldom have the luxury of doing both at the
same time. Iraq in the present day is an exception to that
general rule.

> We support regimes in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc. We even
> play footsie with China.

We support the regime in Saudi Arabia because it's a wiser
policy than NOT supporting it. We need their oil, for one
thing. And there's nothing dishonorable about that. We need
oil; it's what a modern industrial economy like ours runs on,
and will be for the foreseeable future. Besides, our supporting
the Saudi regime is a bulwark against something worse, like a
Saudi government in the hands of the Wahabbists. And the current
regime has proven useful in the war on terrorism.

We support the Musharraf regime in Pakistan because doing so
is likewise useful in the war on terrorism. It's probably a
wise course of action unless and until we can figure out some
way to denuclearize Pakistan. Or do you *like* the idea of
having an Islamic nation with nukes as an enemy? At the very
least, it's not like we need any more enemies in that part of
the world, nuclear-armed or not.

We "play footsie," as you put it, with China because building
economic interdependence is a better strategy for effecting
eventual change in its government, and for reducing the like-
lihood of armed conflict, than *not* "playing footsie" would be.

I don't understand why so many liberals fail to grasp any of
this. It all should be readily apparent to anyone in possession
of adult-level intellectual sophistication. Oh, wait; we're
talking about liberals, aren't we?

Here's a _gedankenexperiment_ for you, Roy: What do you think
would happen if we suddenly did an about-face with our foreign
policy and stopped supporting (or "playing footsie with") these
regimes?

> And contrary to popular opinion, Israel attacked its neighbor(s)
> in 1956, 1967, and 1982 -

Pre-emptively. Those "neighbors" (you make them sound so passive
and innocent) were going to attack Israel, and Israel hit them first.
Sitting back and waiting to be attacked, just to be able to claim
the moral high ground in the eyes of people with no sense of per-
spective (or sense, period) would've been insane.

> plus its disproportional invasion of Lebanon last summer.

Excuse me? What's the most fundamental duty of any government?
To protect its people. Hizbollah crossed a legitimate, recognized
national border and kidnapped Israeli citizens, and then began a
campaign of attempted murder against Israeli civilians.

Israel was well within its rights to do whatever it took to bring
that to a stop. That Lebanese civilians got killed in the process
was tragic, but that's war. It wasn't Israel who killed them; it
was Hizbollah, by going out of its way to hide among them.

> Most Americans have been blinded by bigoted propaganda aimed at
> demonizing the Palestinians.

Yeah, no kidding. All they do is strap bombs to themselves and
blow up Israeli civilians on buses and streetcorners and in pizza
parlors. How could anyone possibly take offense at that? Poor
Palestinians. Poor, poor Palestinians...

> Why would Clinton send three Zionists to negotiate instead of

Dude, when you put the tinfoil on your head, the shiny side is

> Again, I am not at all anti-Israel.

No, of course not.

*snort*

> The Israelis now have a state, and it needs recognition.

You're a litle late. It's been recognized since 1948.

Okay, enough of this. You've made it abundantly clear that
you're a raving moonbat.

When will Kerry
release his records? When he11 freezes over.
The MSM is duplicitous enough to even repeat the lie that Kerry "has released" his records when they know he has not.

William Phillips
Has anyone ever known of a 'real' hero that was boastful and called themselves or even thought of themselves as a hero? I highly doubt it. The main reason for that is that it's against the very nature of a real hero to ever think of themselves in this way. Most real heroes are humble and modest to a fault. They are highly selfless and their actions prove that fact. True heroes don't call themselves heroes...and are embarrassed to have anyone else call them one.

Now I ask you...honestly....does John Kerry even remotely remind you of anything resembling a true hero? I seriously doubt it!

But putting all this aside.... whether John Kerry did any heroic acts while on duty in the Nam or not ....does nothing to erase the cowardly and treasonous acts he did after returning home from VietNam. His actions put the men and women still serving in VietNam at greater peril. It also gave aid and comfort to our enemies...not only the ones in North VietNam but other places around the globe. He also further jeopardized the lives and well being of countless POWs.

In the words of Algore....John Kerry "Betrayed this country!" ....and he betrayed and dishonored his fellow veterans with prefabricated lies & testimony of alleged widespread and frequent atrocities.... before congress.

So you make the call...is John Kerry a hero?...or a traitor?

He's still an unapologetic traitor, IMO!

A real 'hero' never boasts!
I accidentally hit the auto-fill button before posting my previous post ...which put my name as the subject instead of what I intended.

The subject in this post was the one I meant to use.

Creighton Beryll
Dude..when you posted this comment to Roy:

"Dude, when you put the tinfoil on your head, the shiny side is supposed to go on the outside. That way the mind-control beams of the evil Marshmallow People from the planet Zznagoroth can't get into your brain."

All I have to say is...I'm just glad I didn't read that while drinking any liquids....lol
You should give us a warning next time before posting anything like that. I could of done serious damage to my computer and keyboard....lol

Roy, I hope you don't too much offence
at the tinfoil hat thing.

We know you're not a "leftist." And we appreciate someone who uses facts and reason.

I'm sure there are things on which we agree, but I believe you have a skewed perception of conservatism, and you appear to have been educated by the media. We disagree a lot on simple facts.

Can we agree that Colonel Day is a hero and John Kerry (a "war hero" of the left) is a serial liar and a traitor?

Roy
You say you're not a leftist, but then you give the leftist party line. Let me add a few points to what Creighton Beryll has already said.

1. In statements made after 9/11, Osama bin Laden complained about our troops being in Saudi Arabia, but he said nothing about Israel.

2. Israel pulled out of Gaza, only to be rewarded with rockets being fired at them.

3. Palestinians are so belligerent they will fight each other. If they have such a hard time being peaceful among themselves, think how much harder it's going to be for them to achieve peace with another country. Those who are fair-minded will know who to blame.

4. I've been to Israel, too, and I saw how the Palestinian women were treated in comparison with the Israeli women. It's funny how leftists, despite their dedication to feminism, never want to talk about that.

5. Whatever the Palestinians have suffered, it is nothing in comparison to what black Muslims in Darfur are suffering. And they are suffering from the same group, Arabs. The Palestinians are nothing but Arabs living in Palestine. And why is there so much hate among people like you directed against Israel rather than Arabs in Darfur?

6. Muslim violence is directed at many different groups. To say it started with Israel ignores the violence between India and Pakistan, which has been going on at least as long. It also ignores the violence directed against leftists (in Iran after the Shah was booted out and against Theo van Gogh), against Buddhists (in southern Thailand), against third-world Christians (in many different places), against the Russians (concerning Chechnya), and even against the French (back in the mid-1990s and more recently with the carbecue riots).

If you're really not a leftist, stop giving us this leftist drivel.

A few comments
The negative comment on Col Day: Using the same logic means that just because Kerry and Murtha got medals in VietNam doesn't mean that they can't be tools of the far-left, radical anti-war at all costs movement.

Neo-con= communist :Funny I thought those 2 were at odds i.e. Radical=Communist=Critical of bourgeois morality and strongly opposed to capitalism and willing to use state power to achieve desired ends.

vs "Neoconservative – A "neocon" is more inclined than other conservatives toward vigorous government in the service of the goals of traditional morality and pro-business policies. Tends to favor a very strong foreign policy of America as well."

Roy...
Why do you care so much that everyone like us? Who gives a crap! We're #1 and they are all jealous and you feel guilty about it. The only way that they can compete is to bring the US down to their level because they can't raise themselves up to ours.

support US troops doing THIS?!

Message to the troops:

STOP DIS-ARMING THE INNOCENT !!

Stop knocking down the doors of INNOCENT Iraqis' homes and confiscating their small calibre HANDGUNS!

Stop dis-arming the INNOCENT on their streets-of their HANDGUNS! How is an INNOCENT person supposed to effectively protect himself on the way to the store, his job, etc.??? Depend on YOU for protection?!! Yeh, sure!

THE WORLD sees you on the evening news acting like a thug- kicking down doors of GOOD people and the bad! It's really sickening and I'm really surprised you smile and pose for the video cameras while you partake in this detestible (criminal) action! Stop taking away the best defensive weapon they have for self defense at close range. Let the Iraqis kick down THEIR OWN neighbors' doors! They are certainly better able to determine whose doors need to be kicked down than you are! If, after 4 years, you haven't trained the Iraqis to kick down doors and confiscate weapons from the "bad" guys-YOU'VE FAILED YOUR MISSION !! It's time to leave Iraq!

Small calibre HANDGUNS are hardly a threat to you in your flak jackets and helmets. We've NEVER seen a news report of ONE US troop being killed or wounded by a small calibre handgun while wearing a flak jacket and helmet! If you know of one- let us know!

In fact- You should be HANDING OUT HANDGUNS to every INNOCENT Iraqi over 18yrs! Let them fight and defend themselves for a change.

We see you on the news with those tears in your eyes. It's time to stop shedding CROCODILE tears every time you find a group of INNOCENT Iraqis with their throats slit in mass graves-when you know that YOU had a big hand in leaving those victimes defenseless! The crocodile tears don't impress us.

Disarming the INNOCENT is despicable and CRIMINAL!

Tell your idiot commanders and your idiot, "compassionate" Commander-In-Chief that you're not going to do it anymore!

The sooner you stop- the sooner the Iraqi PEOPLE will determine their own future and the sooner you can come home- LIKE NOW !

Universal gun possession IS necessary to the security of a free state, ie constitutional republic. The authors of the US constitution knew that more than 200 years ago. Like all sciences, the science of governance has advanced remarkably since then. Disarming the Iraqi people will doom w's so-called Iraqi
nation-building mission.

Do yourselves a favor
Research what neocons stand for. They stand for government control of the "masses" by the "elites". They stand for getting rid of the middle class. They stand for a state of perpetual war to make it easier to control the "masses" through fear. They stand for global domination. That's just a few of their principle beliefs. I am willing to bet almost NONE of you have or will research this because you are willingly blinded by your partisan PARTY BEFORE COUNTRY beliefs.

Former Rep Never a Dem
Are you for real?

Your posting is a sadly misinformed rant. But that's to be expected from someone who is sent to bed by 8pm.

I don't know what it is with you of the younger generation. Your comments show you haven't learned much in life---formally or informally. You show neither street smarts nor survive-in-the-real-world smarts.

Your understanding of history and the hypocrisy of the left is nil. You make things up as you go along. "Truth be damned, full speed ahead!" It must be boring to be eating pap all the time.

Yes, the left still does shoot itself in the foot. It never has and probably never will stop. That's because too many liberals regard their brainwashed friend's rants as fact, and they repeat, and they repeat them, and they repeat them ad nauseam.

Thank God for the Republicans and Conservatives. Can you imagine what a mess we'd all be in if the Liberals and Democrats had been running things continually for the last twenty-five years?

Wake up people!

scumbags
John Kerry and John Murtha are scumbags. Logic thus suggests that those who support them must also be scumbags.

Murtha
Seems to me that ordinarily no one EVER "applies" for a Purple Heart. The medical personnel treating, and your commander, report your condition to your S-1 (Admin.) and you get put in for the decoration, or not.

Mr. Emanuel ought to have made this point more clearly. Now, could someone REQUEST a Purple Heart. Sure. Someone who did not earn it in the ordinary course but who wanted the credential for personal reasons could always claim he was "overlooked" in the ordinary certifying and awarding of the medal. (See, i.e. John Kerry).

Would I be inclined to believe him? Not unless he were missing some vital organs or limbs.

Re: STOP DIS-ARMING THE INNOCENT
misterfact - NOT. Iraqis are allowed to keep an AK in their homes for defense. Stop drinking the koolaid and remember that what you see on your TV screen is not necessarily reality. And don't bother to email your diatribe to me, I get to see the reality of Iraq first hand, not on an idiot box.
