Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

The use of language to persuade is a skill much admired since ancient times. Few people become leaders without the ability to move others to agree with their arguments. Rightly understood, rhetoric is only one of the tools of persuasion; the other two, logic and dialectic, are required to truly change peoples’ minds. During the presidential campaign, Barack Obama awed the media and voters alike with his rhetorical skills. He continues to awe as he uses rhetorical manipulation to sell the stimulus package to the American public.

Legitimate rhetoric balances the skills of public speaking with sound logic and appeals to commonality with the audience on the issue at hand. It is an understatement to say that Barack Obama is skilled at using the language of his opponents to sell his ideas. During the 2009 campaign, he convinced a significant number of evangelicals that he was one of them. He convinced people of polar opposite points of view that he was on their side. Now, as the nation’s top snake oil salesman, he is “working the room” to sell his stimulus package — a package that experts agree will stimulate the Democratic constituency groups more than the economy.

The “snake oil” is especially obvious in his slick salesmanship as well as his shrewd manipulation of rhetoric.

Starting on Capitol Hill, he brought Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania), the most gullible of the GOP senators, into the Oval Office to overwhelm them with his dialectic; he shrewdly played on his commonality with them on specific ideas and people they mutually admired. One at a time, he worked his charm by stroking each one at their vulnerable points, and all three caved. They undermined their party’s hope for leverage, stomped on the principle of checks and balances, and ended the need for any future attempts for genuine bipartisanship. They also gave Obama the cover he needed during his first major political crisis and gave momentum to a massive trillion dollar plan that could burden the nation for the foreseeable future!

Emboldened by his success with the Three Stooges of Capitol Hill, the president shrewdly staged his first prime-time presidential news conference using all the gravitas of the White House East Room as a backdrop. I say “shrewdly” because the president rearranged seating of the White House Press Corp to give deference to the left. The major network stars were seated behind Ed Schulz, a liberal radio talk show host (Note that this administration plans to push the “Fairness Doctrine”), and reporters from the black media outlets. He shrewdly gave international exposure to media most friendly to his administration. Al Jazeera, Essence, and the Saudi Press Agency were given seats. Sam Stein, a leftist blogger from the Huffington Post, was recognized for a question, thus getting international exposure. No wonder there were no follow-up questions or challenges to the president’s remarks. The mainstream media, whose worshipful coverage assured him the White House, couldn’t have liked the new arrangement, but apparently decided that the slight didn’t warrant legitimate grilling of the president during his first press conference.

Mr. Obama was also shrewd in his use of rhetorical devices that many consider demagogic and are, at a minimum, deceptive and misleading. For instance, he frequently used generalization and polarization:

• The stimulus bill would mean the difference between catastrophe and creating four million jobs

• Liberal Democrats just want to spend more money, but the GOP vetoes all progress

• Everything was the fault of the Bush administration, so Obama’s administration is facing “unprecedented” problems

• Everything the new administration is doing has never been done before

• Republican leaders are doing “nothing,” while his team is producing plans that will perform miracles

He conveyed a distortion of what the ancient rhetoricians called “ethos.” The ancient concept includes the image that is conveyed by the person trying to persuade. Obama almost never smiles, and during the press conference he projected, as usual, the image of self-control, maturity and deliberation. His suits are always impeccable, and his informal wear is “cool.” His demeanor projects a seriousness that is softened by his picture perfect family life. During the press conference, he seemed utterly sincere, honest and candid, while dishing out statements that could be thoroughly discounted by any first-year reporter pounding a beat. He skillfully turned to humor in order to disdain and dismiss the only penetrating question of the whole press conference. When Major Garrett of Fox News asked the president about Vice President Joe Biden’s comment regarding the administration having a 30 percent chance of failing on any given initiative, the president did not hesitate to make Biden the butt of his joke. The end result was to convey the impression that he is the savior of the nation, while everyone else, including his party and his vice president, stands as a barrier to progress.

For a man who promised bipartisanship by “working with the majority for change,” he makes ample use of what he claimed to despise, “the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for too long have strangled our politics.”

Obama's 1st press conference was a joke
and so is He.

Actions speak louder than words
Actions speak a lot louder than words, and thru his actions, Obama has slapped in the face 75% of the taxpayers in this nation. We'll see how many want to support labor unions, and in turn, democrats, by buying a ford or chevy.

Don't Listen: Just Watch His Actions
Don't listen to what Obama says; watch what he actually does. Obama knows the power words and sympatico words to use, and like a lawyer, he equivocates and uses words to distract and get tied up in meaning. "There's not one piece of pork in this bill..." No there wasn't a single one, there were thousands. Obama leaves out the things he knows we aren't going to like. The Democrats "manage" society's knowledge.

Propaganda from lawyers.

Obama's Pattern
Obama has shown his pattern of ruse, spin and slick lawyer-speak. Unfortunately, the MS media runs "interference" for him like Andropov's TASS Soviet News Agency before him. Somehow, the conservatives will need to be bold, courageous (good start so far!) and clever to counter the mainstream propaganda machine protecting Chaiman O. This is a major challenge, as I see it.

This was a good column
It's truly remarkable how so many people swallow what this man says no matter how dopey it is. If you just bother to listen to him, the things he says are utterly comical.

Objective Journalism?
His press conference was a staged event and it make the reporters from major media outlets look like fools. How long before one or more of them confess they've been had? The stupidity of most of the "journalists" is mind-boggling. I would put more credence into the reporting of Town Hall's posters than the current crop of media journalists. Chris Matthews is just the most blatant example of how "objective" these reporters are. Major newspapers and magazines are dying and their reporters and editors continue to throw dirt on their graves.

Joke
Sorry Obama is not a joke. I wish he were. He is POTUS and when he sneezes we all get a cold. Just ask the mayor of Las Vegas.

The man is a demagogue,
I have seen some slick people in my time, but this guy takes the cake.
Blatant lies fall from his lips like snow and no-one calls him on it in a manner that would get out to the population as a whole, ie the MSM.

Those fools are complicit in the downfall of their own country, not one could pass journalism 101, their left wing bias is painful to watch.

As to clowns like Spector, I wrote that fool, but we all know it got round-filed by some twit in his office.
Spector BTW is the author of the "magic bullet theory" of the JFK asassination, which shows what a deep thinker HE is, so no surprise that bambi could stroke him into supporting this abomination.

The 2 twits from Maine are no surprise either, together they couldn't find their way to the ladies room, no less see what just happened here. It was all about them being important. In their own minds.

Our side needs to stand firm, this guy is dangerous to our way of life and the sooner he is exposed for the commie I believe him to be, the better.

Hope?
Rhetoric and cover from the MSM will only get you so far. At some point when the results of the stimulus plan become apparent my hope is that even the MSM won't be able to ignore it. Besides, even if Oboma was their man, no one enjoys being jilted.

Rhetoric & demogoguery
used to only get you so far, because people saw it for what it was and pointed it out to others.

Unfortunately, due to gubmint "education," fewer people recognize these old tricks and more and more don't see it, nor do they want to.

A few years ago, I found a middle school English grammar textbook from the 30's or 40's in my uncle's stuff. One section in it dealt with jingoism, sloganeering, demagoguery, populism, and rhetoric, along with nationalism (Nazi's), communism and capitalism. Each term was defined and explained so that a student was equipped to recognize each for what it was and how they were used to manipulate.

I gave the book to my cousin who put it in her home schooling library. I'd be willing to wager that her little boy is the only kid in NW Washington state who understands these words, or has even heard of them, for that matter.

We are so screwed.

Forgot the most important one,
PROPAGANDA!!! No one seems to recognized when they are being propagandized.

Our foundation of an educated populace has been destroyed and politicians can do what they will to the people who are unhindered by common sense or knowledge of History.

Kids today have no moral absolutes, oodles of self-esteem without accomplishment, an entitlement attitude, victim mentality and are prey for the cynical power grabbing demagogues.

The unStimulus Package has led the lamb's to their own slaughter. I don't have any kids, but if you do, let them know about the 65-75% tax rate they'll be paying their whole lives because of Obama and the left's trickle up poverty programs.

kudos to roadmaster
I was brought up in the 40's and 50's, the theme at my dad's house was "the world does not owe you a living".
That concept seems to have gone by the boards in 54% of the households in this country.
Liberalism and it's moral equivalancy arguements will be the death of this nation.
No-one has a right to the earnings of another.
To make that arguement is to be complicit in a theft.
We have a lot of thieves on the welfare rolls and their enablers in congress and it's past time to vote these accomplices out and start over.

Well said Ms. Crouse!
Terrific column - I've been saying this for months! Now I'm just going to print your column and hand it out! Ad Age Daily named him Marketer of the Year - not exactly leadership credentials in an era of economic collapse and islamic terrorism - but it was a masterful (and successful) marketing campaign aimed at the uninfomed. My question now is whether the uninfomed realize they were duped by his manipulative rhetoric?

Obama is not a particularly powerful...
...speaker. He has a command of political speak, which is to say, he can talk for long periods without actually saying anything but he is not the masterful speaker being sold in the media.

His sophomoric rhetoric could not get him past a legitimate press actively engaged in acting as a watchdog for the people.

Talk radio is the only venue over which democrats lack full control and that is why we are hearing about the return of the "Censorship Doctrine". It will pass! It will not, however, apply to the MSM nor the entertainment industry where many TV shows are nothing more than propaganda surrounding a dramatic theme. The final episode of Boston Legal springs to mind, it was nothing more than an Obama campaign ad.

At the risk of picking at scabs, I would point out that not too long ago TH was pounding the drum for the head RINO John McCain, the leader of the "Stooges" on capitol hill.

I can't imagine after last years 700 billion dollar boondoggle why he didn't join his fellow RINO's. More than likely he's working on some personal grudge which kept him on his own side of the aisle.

So, now we don't like mavericks?

TH writers need to check their hypocrisy meters.

abuse of power
I read Obama used Air Force One to persuade a Democrat lawmaker to support this Stimulus Bill. I hope someone is keeping track of his use of Air Force One and compare it to previous Presidents. I doubt Bush ever used it to influence a lawmaker's vote. How can he justify this with his stand on global warming? The people will suffer, but the President will still enjoy $100 steaks and flying around in Air Force One.

Hook, Line and Sinker
Hope all you Obama Zombies are really happy with your Messiah. This guy is about to wreck the economy beyond repair. He has re-established the Welfare state and guess who's picking up the bill? Take a look in the mirror, you Pot smoking Woodstock Baby Idiots...

POOR JUDGEMENT
SGT relic, VA: "Obama is not a particularly powerful... speaker. He has a command of political speak, which is to say, he can talk for long periods without actually saying anything but he is not the masterful sp"eaker

ditto...I just don't get it....

I've listened and listened to him speak & I really wanted to understand the sway...but hear nothing.

I do not understand how his words, his speech patterns, delivery have had such an impact on people.

I have heard good speakers, good speeches...
but he is not one.

If you think of what's offered on TV, what is popular, alot of it has no substance...but they are popular shows.

If you realize that public education does not teach children to question/analyze what they're taught in school, what can we expect when they grow up physically.

If you realize that the last few generations, since the inception of TV and advertising, fill our heads with what to eat (poor nutritionally processed, chemically treated foods), how to medicate (only with dangerous drugs that substitute one disease for another), we're not physically, emotionally, mentally healthy enough to understand his message...

we're just once again accepting whatever he says.

and I think that's what he offers...

GARBAGE

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES
SEAWOLF, VA: "I was brought up in the 40's and 50's, the theme at my dad's house was "the world does not owe you a living".

No-one has a right to the earnings of another."

me too!

just think what would happen if there was a catastrophe...the worker type mentality would get right to it and start looking for ways to build shelter & to create devices for fishing, trapping etc.

and the slackers would be standing by, moaning, groaning about how hard things are...

and waiting for handouts!!!

I was watching a program on those people who've decided to "live off the grid."

and guess what??? yup..."they" showed up and started stealing from others in the community...when caught and asked why, their response was that those who had those things (like food stored away), didn't need them cause they were extras!!!

and they will never change their ways unless forced to...

as we are forced to support them and provide for them.

Rhetoric
"Rhetoric is either very good or stark naught" (Selden). The O man is the latter for those who listen carefully, the MSM excluded! Execellent column Janice, but you were far too kind to the gang of three; useful idiots was,and is, the operative phrase.

Rhetoric cost taxpayers too much money
How much money has Obama spent flying around the country (not the least the damage he's doing to the ozone using so much CO2). Now he's got to fly to Denver to sign the thing! He's already (within a month) admitted he's tired of being stuck in the Whitehouse. Well, he's a speaker and speakers need events and audiences, not a seat in a room doing a job without crowds around to hear his eloquent speeches. Maybe, instead of flying around making speeches to sell the stimulus to the people, he could sit at his desk and go line by line like he said he would do and mark through all those "porky" things like mice and trains (for Pelosi and Reid), he might not have to sell anything.

Then we should be asking, why does he need to "sell" it? He knows it's full of pork and political paybacks and it won't get those people in the RV town a job or get that lady in the audience a place to live (ironically, his people gave her a card for a gov. agency for help; a republican lady attending gave her a place to live, so I guess in way he did get her help even if it was from one of those cold, fiscally responsible, religious conservatives who don't care about people)But that's what he's selling and that's what all these people think will happen.

He knows he has the votes to pass it and if it is, as he says, good and will create 3-4 million job and will stimulate the economy, then he should stay at his desk, let his party pass the bill, sign it. No, he has to get "the people" to "own" it so when it fails to do what he promised, they'll have a hard time condemning it, him, or congress because they would have to do the same to themselves or admit they were dooped, which won't happen. They'll just go along with him again with whatever excuses he gives or blame who/whatever he chooses to blame when it doesn't work.

HA in Nc
Your post reminded me of the time back a few years we had that monster ice storm and a few years later Isabelle came blowing in.
Trees down all over the place, road impassable etc. The men in my neighborhood were out right after the sun came up with chain saws and we were back in business in about half a day except for power.

The slugs in the projects however, never had to clean up and never lost power for a moment [we were out 10 days], they have theirs delivered via back up generators at our expense... We wouldn't want the little darlins to get cold or burn down another city.

I shudder to think what will happen in this country were we to get into a real depression.

Re: Bla,Bla!!!
Look, this is what happens when you put a knowitall into office because everyone ooohs and aaahs over his Law degree from Harvard Snob school!! This guy is full of a steaming shovel full, and anyone who thinks that he knows what he is doing is full of the same shovel of!!! Look, the only thing this guy knows is Socialism and that is what you are getting!!!

Re: BlaBla!!!
Look, this is what you get when you put someone like Glowbama into office who all this guy knows is Socialism!!! His Talk is nothing more than a smoke screen of what his agenda is and that is a utopian society where everyone shares the wealth!!!

Use of Hypnosis
Barack Obama’s speeches contain the hypnosis techniques of Dr. Milton Erickson, M.D. who developed a form of “conversational” hypnosis that could be hidden in seemingly normal speech and used on patients without their knowledge for therapy purposes.

The healthcare issue is a case in point
There has been no public debate of this major healthcare policy issue. Where the issue is, where in the Constitution does it say the central government must regulate and provide for everyones health care? And, if the central government does become empowered to make life and death healthcare decisions for everyone and our government falls under the control of corrupt men, could we as citizens experience a threat from our government?

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/288200.html

Obama has attempted to appoint several career politicians and bureaucrats to cabinet positions who have been cheating on their taxes, even after decides of holding public office as public politicians spending public taxes. Does the willingness to cheat on their taxes suggest something about their character that should cause us some concern about putting these people in charge of making our health care decisions? Should we be concerned with the way these politicians are enacting massive pork spending legislation and serious healthcare policy ... in the dark without public debate? Does it suggest something about these politicians motives and character?

America is an expectional country because our nation flows against human history of how men governed themselves and interfaced with their central government. Our basic right to freedom comes from God, not from man or men. Freedom places the individual in the power position, not government. The path to hell and oppression is paved with great intentions! Should the citizen be concerned with how Obama and the democrats are ramming their neo-marxist agenda down our throats?

Jim from AR 12:14pm, pt 1
Your post caused me to think back to the early 1980's when I was a college student majoring in mass communication. Back then I was a committed liberal democrat. I was taught mass communication, using signs and symbols in messages when communicating to mass audiences. Subliminal communication experiences in the 1950's. How TV commercials use a refining of this method today making effective commercials 15 seconds instead of 1 minute as was the standard TV commercial of the early days of TV.

I began to notice that democrat politicians were using these mass communication methods all the time. I also noticed that Republicans don't. Republicans messages tend to use logical reasoning and argumentation to shape their message. All forms of democrat media (news, TV, movie, comedy, etc) will play off the deeply placed signs and symbols already placed deep in the minds of the audience. Then, the trick is to continuously re-enforce these signs and symbols for a person, place, thing or political opponent in the mind of the audience. Like what was done to Sarah Palin or any serious Republican personality or figure.

Democrats have a play-book. In this playbook are pre-manufactured signs and symbols they know are effective for use against their political opponents. democrats use their pre-manufactured sign and symbol of their political opponents to define the opponent in the mind of the audience. The next thing is to keep shaping your message to continuously re-enforce the manufactured sign and symbol. This becomes mass communication mind control. The functions of commercials are to create a desire or demand for a product that the consumer does not have. To do that the commercials use powerful signs and symbols that go deep into the subconscious of the audience. All of the various democrat media messages use this same principle.

Jim from AR 12:14pm, pt 2
Some media supportive of Republicans have points of view used to discuss democrats. But, these Republican or conservative points of view are not coordinated as a political strategy as they are in all forms of democrat media, like comedy sitcom shows, feature films, Saturday Night Live, David Letterman, the Nightly News, CNN, MSNBC, etc. A person is bombarded with these negative democrat signs and symbols of Republicans 24/7.

In debating many of my liberal friends and associates I have uncovered is a way to "slap" a person back to some level of reality that is under the influence of this kind of mind manipulation.

Republicans can easily use this method to shape their public appearances on news programs to reveal the folly and the basic illogic of all or most of deomcrat positions.

Conceptually Republicans first have to know what is going on. Then, shape a series of words that can go inside the subconscious mind to the audience and attack to sign and symbol at the source, the illogical thought life of the subconscious mind.

Just Words
Is the definition of rhetoric...lying?

Excellent commentary
Obama is one skilled public speaker but basically a garden variety liberal. One additional point. He recasts the terms of debates. For example, it isn't about whether government is big or small, it is about whether it works. By redefining the debate he is trying to deflect criticism that he favors big government. He talks about unity versus divisiveness, but actually he defines "unity" as agreeing with him. He says he wants bipartisanship, meaning he can sit quietly while conservatives blather on and, when they're done, go about his liberal business. The man is slick!

Public Speaking 101
I was very active in public speaking and debate in high school and college (minored in it actually). I also had a 40-year career as a professional actor.

As a result of that extensive experience, I can vouch that what my first public-speaking teacher said is sadly true (and tragically confirmed by this snake-oil salesman "we" have elected president).

He walked to his podium on the first day of class and, before even introducing himself, said:

"If you don't remember anything else from this class, remember this: Most people are not persuaded by WHAT you say. They are persuaded by HOW YOU SAY IT.

"Great orators--as well as dictators and con men--have always known this."

LINCOLN v OBAMA
Lincoln and the Civil War saved the Union and freed the slaves with his "Emancipation Proclamation."

Obama has added to "The Great Society" which created another kind of enslavement of Americans with his American Reivestment and Recovery Act.

Rather than bringing our nation out of poverty he has, quite simply put, added millions more to the welfare list. I am very afraid he has caused a separation of states with his Marxist governance.

There are approximately 20 states claiming sovereignty from the United States and this may cause another Civil War.

Moreover, Obama sponsored The Global Poverty Act, S.2433 that sends $8.65 billions to the UN to eliminate poverty in Third World countries which are Muslim countries that hate us and want to kill ALL Americans and Jews IN THE WORLD.

LARRY22
Thanks! That was fascinating and illuminating. Please elaborate. Examples, for instance.

Using signs and symbols for politics, 1
Modern mass communication accepts the assumption and is based on the premise that any society, including our society, has certain signs and symbols that are powerful. These cultural "signs and symbols" can encase certain ethos that communicate deep meaning words cannot entirely convey.

http://www.amazon.com/Signs-Symbols-Their-Design-Meaning/dp /0823048268

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign

http://ilze.org/semio/011.htm

http://www.megaessays.com/essay_search/signs_symbols_cultur e.html

The culture of the "humanism", which is a quasi-religion, and its sub-culture "liberalism" have developed signs and symbols that, to the liberal world-view, captures the essences of our traditional culture, which is based on "Christianity" and its sub-culture, conservatism.

To the liberal, humanist world-view traditional culture is the great evil. It is the only evil a liberal will easily call "evil." The thing is to gain control of the signs and symbols of how traditionalists are portrayed in all forms of liberal media. Turn the liberal view of Christians, conservatives and traditionalist into a sign or symbol and repeatedly show the sign and symbol in a negative light. Then, if anyone is publicly connected to conservativism, attach the negative sign or symbol to them and keep re-enforcing the negative association in all forms of media, movies, TV sit-coms, popular Hollywood entertainers, MSNBC, CNN, etc.

To the liberal, terrorist are not evil. Liberals really don't want to identify anything as evil because it smacks of religion. However, the liberal will freely identify traditionalism, conservatism and / or Christianity as evil.

Using signs and symbols for politics 2
Then, the task is to link the things that the general culture frowns on and identifies as intolerant to the traditionalist, to Christianity and conservativism. Like the belief that a woman should not abort and baby, or belief that using military force for national defense in war is sometimes a necessity.

Before the power of signs and symbols was discovered in communication theory TV commercials were explicit in the early days of TV, the 1950’s. The benefits of the product were highlighted in one minute commercials containing many words. By the 1980’s the power of signs and symbols changed the TV commercial. Instead of highlighting the benefits of the product, the subconscious drives and base motivations of the consumer were highlighted. For example, if a product was marketed to a young population the signs and symbols important the young people were included in the 15 second colorful “commercial-movie” packed with signs and symbols and few words. The aim of the commercial was to create a short movie clip that would be played and re-played in the individual’s imagination. Each time it re-played in the mind it was more deeply anchored. The good feelings of owning the product became the important selling point. The increase in sex appeal to the opposite sex became important. The recapture of youth become important. These things were communicated by signs and symbols and no words. If I buy a certain car, young women will notice me in the car. This speaks to my subconscious mind and need to feel desirable. Women want to have sex with Obama:

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/02/07/nyt-b log-women-are-dreaming-having-sex-obama

Using signs and symbols for politics 3
In the 1950's subliminal message experiments were conducted at movie theaters where split second clips of popcorn or pop were placed in a movie. The thinking was that people seeing the split second image of popcorn or pop would think they wanted those items and sales would increase. They found this was not necessarily the case.

However, advertisers did discover that a culture contains certain ethos encased in an image that bound, anchored and grounded the belief-system of the culture. These images where the signs and symbol important to the culture. Manipulation of these signs and symbol can have political implicated. When I learned this in college I was a deeply commitment liberal democrat. However, I began to see this stuff being used. I started questioning all of the assumptions I held about democrats, Republicans, and freedom and the belief in free thought. Then, I discovered that as a liberal I was not the free-thinker they told me I was. I was a manipulated Pavlov rat controlled by liberal media by the signs and symbols that spoke to the subconscious.

http://www.poumai.com/poumai/poumai-culture/signs-and-symbo ls.html

http://www.ringling.org/adultprograms2.aspx?id=3690

When democrats / Obama make public statements their words will be packed with keywords like, “I’m leading a bipartisan effort, 4 million jobs, reach across the aisles, I inherited this economy, it’s going to get worst, they want me to fail, this toxic political environment has to stop, they don’t want to stop the suffering, I don’t want people to lose their homes, etc.” These things are to push certain buttons that go to the subconscious mind.

http://www.quirks.com/articles/a1991/19911002.aspx?searchID =19455202&sort=5&pg=1

As society loses the ability for critical thinking and logical reasoning, democrats manipulating their media to push subconscious hot buttons is becoming a threat to free thinking people.

The Good News.......
Send guns, money and lawyers.

The Bad News: The money is hot off the press.

No one has mentioned that
the Big O bought his own cable station during the election that ran all O all the time.

Then he threw anyone who didn't flatter him off the campaign bus/plane.

Then he told people who interviewd him or Biden who asked real questions (Jackson, FL, and Phila.) that those anchors/interviewers wouldn't be invited to the White House.

Now he has started a personal *feud* with Rush Limbaugh as prelim. to his push for the Fairness Doctrine. If enacted, talk cons. radio will move to satellite and off-shore, and local am and fm radio will simply die. Another stimulus at work.

The problem is O can't stop the net and can't really stop opposition. 60,000,000 didn't vote for him, and altho' he outspent McCain 8-1, O only gained 1 more % pt. than Bush in 2004.

The problem will be that eventually the MSM will turn. It turns on everyone. When that time comes, we will see the facade of the calm, cool leader collapse into the basic tyrant who already thinks he's been elected king.

Slick& Slimly
Obama has what has been known to have a slick tounge. He can talk his way into anything and talk his way out of anything. We all should be,and will be hurt by the results of his SLICK tounge.

hOLDING GE ACCOUNTABLE
Will the Obama administration actually hold the GE financial arm and its subsidaries which include NBC and its related networks to the same accountability as all others in the financial industry.

The Semi-Classic Demagogue
I say "semi" becasue Obama is clever enough and has been well-schooled enough to keep the "I'm just like you" persona (e.g.basketball, "have a beer", a confused perception of what consti- tutes the Middle Class, now proclaimed as the Poorer Class: every one but me is rich. I am so glad to see in print the evaluation of Obama's demagoguery, in place of the "golden tongue" wig-wag. He says nothing, but does it with such sincerity; brainwashing by repetition to the max with blah, blah blah, masked as definitive "clarity". We need clear ears in these days of chatter.

NOT READY TO LEAD
and apparently Obama doesn't want to or know how to lead. He gave the So Called Stimulus Bill to Pelosi and Reid to write instead of doing it himself. (Remember, he never wrote anything when he was president of the Law Review at Harvard).
He has been out of the Whitehouse since the inaugration more than he has been in it. Yet, he has never visited the state of Kentucky which was hard kit by ice storms and over 25 people died, nor to Oklahoma after a tornado struck there and several people were killed.

He voted present over 100 times when he was state Senator of Illinois and never proposed a bill when he was a Senator in Washington. He has never managed people in any capacity, therefore he appointed a group of tax cheaters, Clintonistas and crooks to his cabinet. His bipartisanship was to tell the Republicans, "I won, get over it." And to continue to blame them for not being bipartisan.
At least Senator Gregg took one good look and said, "I'm out of here".

He reverses his position on many things or delays a decision. "We will close Gitmo, I'll figure out how to do it in a year". "We will appoint a Car Czar, no, we'll have a task force". "No more water boarding of Gitmo prisoners, No, we'll send them to other countries for rendition." "We'll send more troops into Afghanistan, I'll decide soon how many and when." "I'll reduce the government budget line by line, item by item". We all know the reversal of that line.

Yes, the McCain campaign ads were right, Obama was not ready to lead, experience is required for the job of President.

yuck! All this in less than a month. More of this adolescent Presidential behavior we will be faced with. Stay tuned to "Four is Enough".

A tale of 3 brainwashed liberals
First tale of a brainwashed liberal. I have a friend, a retired newspaper columnist who was runner up for a Pulitzer Prize some years ago. During the Bush / Kerry 2004 election the Black head of John Kerry's statewide campaign was arrested in his car on a dead-end street with a toothless prostitution getting a Bill Clinton. Hearing this my newspaper friend postulated that Bush set the man up to be caught with the prostitution. I asked why would Bush set in motion such an elaborate plan for a nobody? And, why didn't the man and the prostitution complain of being rendered unconscious, to later awake with his peni* in a stranger's mouth? And, why didn't the homeowner who called police report that the car was towed and dropped out at the location?

Second tale, I have a friend at the US Court. In a phone call he said Bush lied the US into the Iraq war with false intelligence. I asked if Bush used false intelligence to support the war there must be a point in time when Iraqi intelligence underwent a major transformation from innocent intelligence to damaging intelligence about Iraqi WMD's. Therefore, if Bush lied and manipulated Iraqi intelligence, democrats in Congress, like John Kerry 20 years on the Senate Intelligence Committee would have on a computer old Iraqi intelligence to compare with the Bush false intelligence. Why has no one produced the two forms of intelligence for the public. That would support that Bush lied more than democrats and the media parroting "Bush lied!"

Last tale. In 2000 I was approaching the end of a doctoral degree program. My dissertation advisor complained to the class about the shame of Geo. Bush attmepting to steal the Fla. election. Pointing out all Fla counties having problems with voting equipment were democrat counties, Bush or Republicans did not make election equipment decisions. I finally completed my doctoral degree in 2008, after 5 extra years.

Liberalism is a mental disorder!

So What?
As I recall, a few years ago during the Bush, Jr. administration, President Bush invited Michael Medved, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingrahm and several other conservative talk show hosts into a private meet-and-greet inside the Oval Office. Not that I'm complaining, even though Big Eddie wasn't even invited. It was strictly a conservative media meet-&-greet by a conservative president. The only difference between Obama's meet-&-greet, besides the liberal P.O.V.s of him and his guest, was that he held it LIVE. So don't try to call a double standard when the very double standard was prevalent under the Bush administration. Presidents that have a political ideology will invite media personnel that fit his ideology, whether it's Bush or Obama.

Fairness Doctrine

The Fairness Doctrine has no place in our First Amendment regime. It puts the head of the camel inside the tent and enables administration after administration to toy with TV or radio in order to serve its sordid or its benevolent ends.

D, you asked, pt 1
"Was your initial go at your PhD sabotaged by this prof you had a disagreement with? Or did you spend the extra time building a dissertation about the politics of the Bush-Gore election dispute?"

My dissertation involves issues that might affect the interoperability of patrol officers converging from urban, suburban and rural environments during catastrophic events. Before I made the comment to my dissertation advisor about the 2000 Fla voting problems we historically had a wonderful relationship. After the comment she changed ... but her behavior let me know she had changed. Knowing this I prepared for problems from her because I had heard of the problems other students had with her. In any event, betw. 2002 to 2006 I had worked on 4 different dissertation proposal topics. After a year she'd advise me to start over and switch to another topic. By 2006 the Dean of the college made her allow me to take my last proposal to my dissertation committee. The proposal was terribly incomplete because it was supposed to go nowhere, in her mind. Because the Dean of the college forced my advisor to allow me to advance, my advisor got my committee members to approve the flawed proposal. During the proposal presentation my external dissertation committee member had serious reservations about the proposal but he approved it anyway. The next day I went to his office and told him to relax, I know the proposal document was junk but this is the first time in 4 years that I had gotten this far.

D, you asked, pt 2
From fall 2006 to fall 2007 my advisor gave me the run-around, making little progress on the final two chapters. I went ahead and wrote the final chapter on my own. In Dec. 2007 the Dean told my advisor she was retiring after the Winter 2008 semester. My advisor, to appease the Dean, needed someone ... anyone close to finishing that she felt could successfully defend their dissertation and push out of the program, thereby satisfying the Dean.

In Jan 2008 my advisor told me to get ready to defend. I was racing to format my dissertation document, getting document copies to committee members, getting their signatures in order to defend by the first week of Feb. 2008.

I understand that completing a PHD, many times involves "department politics." Mnay doctoral candidates end up ABD's (all but dissertation) because they can't overcome this politics. My advisor, I can only assume, was hoping I would get frustrated and drop out after years of trying to finish with no success becoming another ABD. I'm pleased that did not happen in my case. Ultimately my dissertation was published by a German company in Nov. 2008 and is selling in 6 western countries.

Ms. Crouse keep up the strong voice
To the liberal, terrorist are not evil. Liberals really don't want to identify anything as evil because it smacks of religion. However, the liberal will freely identify traditionalism, conservatism and / or Christianity as evil.
