Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Whether or not the issue of Barack Obama's two decades under the spiritual direction of Jeremiah Wright remains an issue through the next six months, the views of the possible First Lady at his side will be part of this half-year's discussion.

Which is why we have transcribed a major speech she made in North Carolina on the Friday before that state's primary vote, and why we have posted the audio of the speech here.

Read it. Listen to it. This is not a speech from the mainstream of American politics. It is a radical critique of the country, and it is not the sort of assessment widely shared beyond the far precincts of the left.

Here are just a few of the key assertions Michelle Obama makes:

But we’ve also learned something else this year, something that we’ve all sort of felt at some point in our life, that we’re still living in a nation, and in a time when the bar is set, I talk about this all the time, they set the bar. They say look, if you do these things, you can get to this bar, right? And then you work and you struggle, you do everything that they say, and you think you’re getting close to the bar and you’re working hard, and you’re sacrificing, and then you get to the bar, you’re right there, you’re reaching out for the bar, you think you have it, and then what happens? They move the bar. They raise it up. They shift it to the left and to the right. It’s always just quite out of reach. And that’s a little bit of what Barack has been experiencing. The bar is constantly changing for this man. Raise the money? Not enough. Build an organization? Not enough. Win a whole bunch of states? Not the right states. You got to win certain states. So the bar has been shifting and moving in this race, but the irony is, the sad irony is that that’s exactly what’s happening to most Americans in this country. The bar is shifting and moving on people all the time. And folks are struggling like never before, working harder than ever, believing that their hard work will lead to some reward, some payoff. But what they find is that they get there and the bar has changed, things are different, wasn’t enough. So you have to work even harder.

And see what happens when you live in a nation where the vast majority of Americans are struggling every day to reach an ever-shifting and moving bar, then what happens in that nation is that people do become isolated. They do live in a level of division, because see, when you’re that busy struggling all the time, which most people that you know and I know are, that you don’t have time to get to know your neighbor. You don’t have time to reach out and have conversations, to share stories. In fact, you feel very alone in your struggle, because you feel that somehow, it must be your fault that you’re struggling so hard. Everybody else must be doing okay. I must be doing something wrong, so you hide. You don’t realize that the struggles of that farmer in rural Iowa are the same as the struggles as a city worker in the south side of Chicago, because we don’t talk to each other. And when you live in a nation with a vast majority of Americans are struggling to reach an ever-shifting and moving bar, then naturally, people become cynical. They don’t believe that politics can do anything for them. So they fold their arms in disgust, and they say you know, I can’t be bothered voting, because it has never done anything for me before. So let me stay home, let me not bother. Naturally, we as a nation get cynical.

And when you live in a nation where people are struggling every day to reach an ever-shifting and moving bar, then what happens in that kind of nation is that people are afraid, because when your world’s not right, no matter how hard you work, then you become afraid of everyone and everything, because you don’t know who’s fault it is, why you can’t get a handle on life, why you can’t secure a better future for your kids. And the problem with fear is that it cuts us off. Fear is the worst enemy. It cuts us off from one another and our own families, and our communities, and it has certainly cut us off from the rest of the world. It’s like fear creates this veil of impossibility, and it is hanging over all of our heads, and we spend more time now in this nation talking about what we can’t do, what won’t work, what can’t change. See, and the problem with that kind of thinking is that we passed that on to our children, because see, the thing I know as a mother is our children are watching everything we do and say, every explicit and implicit sign, they are watching us. And our fear is helping us to raise a nation of young doubters, young people who are insular and they’re timid. And they don’t try, because they already heard us tell them why they can’t succeed. See, and I don’t want that for my kids.

And this:

But the truth is, right now, that little nugget of a dream that was my life is getting further and further out of reach for most Americans because of that bar constantly moving. You know, jobs like my father had those blue collar jobs where you got pensions, vacation, all that, they’re dwindling. They’re drying up. They’re disappearing, going overseas. And if you’re lucky enough to have a job, nine times out of ten, your salary’s not keeping up with the cost of living. Barack and I met with a family of railroad workers, union folks. They said for eight years, they hadn’t seen a pay increase. For eight years, zero pay increase. Eight years. No increase. Gas prices going up, food going up, rent, insurance, own a home, what’s going with the mortgages? That’s going up. It’s all going up, and salaries are staying stagnant. So no wonder that bar feels like it’s moving. And I don’t know how single parents do it. There are millions of them all over this country. Let me tell you, single parents love their kids, too. But it is almost impossible to raise a family of any size on a single salary. So now you’ve got single parents who have to double and triple shift, taking on two, three jobs, working all the time, and feeling like they’re failing because that bar is moving, because how on Earth are you going to work as hard as you need to to pay the bills and be at parent/teacher conferences, and sit down and do homework when a kid has trouble? How are you going to manage all that? Well, folks are not, and they’re doing it suffering in silence, blaming themselves for the fact that they’re not working hard enough. Maybe something’s wrong.
The bar is moving and shifting on them, and it’s moving and it’s shifting with regard to education, because we all know that No Child Left Behind is not doing what it needs to do for children in this country. So now on top of all the other worries that families have, now they’re worried about education, because we all know that you cannot measure the success of a child by a single test. And if that were the case, I wouldn’t be here, because I was not a good test taker. How many kids do you know who are like me? Teachers don’t have the resources to teach, the freedom to do what they know that they need to do. So the bar is shifting and moving, and college is another ever-shifting and moving bar. Even when kids do everything that’s asked of them, do your homework, stay out of trouble, get good grades, take those tests, do well on them, many of them apply, got into the colleges of their choices, only to look at the cost, look at their family’s income, sticker shock, so they walk away from college, not because they didn’t get in, but they couldn’t afford it.

And this:

And [Barack] has spent every ounce of his time running over the decisions in his head – do I…when graduating from college, do I work on Wall Street? Make a lot of money, that’d be better for me, or do I go work in a community as an organizer? Well, what did Barack do? He became a community organizer, working in some of the toughest neighborhoods on the south side of Chicago, worked for years in neighborhoods where people had a reason to give up hope, because their jobs had been lost, steel mills shut down, living in brown fields left by those closed steel plants, unsafe streets, schools deteriorating, grandparents raising grandkids. Barack spent years working with churches, busing single mothers down to City Hall to help them find their voice, building the kind of operations on the ground just like he’s doing in this race, block by block, person by person. Now you tell me whether there’s anybody in this race who can claim to have made the same choice with their lives. You tell me, but I think that Barack Obama is the only person that can claim that kind of choice.

And finally, this bit of winsome humility: "So trust me, we’ve seen it all. Barack has seen it all."

Michelle Obama isn't running for the presidency, but she is at center stage of her husband's campaign, and her vision of America will obviously inform Barack Obama's vision of America if he becomes president.

And her vision isn't one that most Americans share.

Getting into the gutter
Hugh, you will be hoisted by your own petard if you think you can be successful this election cycle by smearing Michelle Obama. Unlike last election when you repeatedly attacked an easy target like Theresa Heinz Kerry knowing that Laura Bush was largely innoculated, this year is much different.

I pray that someone from the McCain campaign tells you to put an end to this kind of attack. Because if it becomes about the wives, John McCain has far more to lose. Do you really want this election to be about:

1. McCain's infidelity with Cindy while his first wife was recovering from a tragic accident that left her disfigured?

2. Cindy McCain's drug use?

3. Cindy McCain's connection to the Keating Five scandal?

4. Cindy McCain's refusal to release her tax returns -- an issue that you criticized John Kerry's wife for incessantly.

You see where this road take you Hugh? John McCain and Barack Obama are decent gentlemen who I'm confident will avoid the personal attacks and focus on their competing visions of America. Do you have so little confidence in John McCain that you are left with nothing but attacking Obama's wife?

Ms. Michelle
has got to be the bitterest person making six figures a year EVER. If the chip on her shoulder were converted to energy, we wouldn't need oil anymore.

Poor Michelle
This "terrible" nation provided her w/ an Ivy League (Harvard) education, a law degree, affluent life-style, and a free speech podium. How dare this "bar setting" nation put her African American husband on the presidental ticket. Life just isn't fair. (sarcasm intended!)

BTW - Isn't her mother raising her kids while she educates us on how crappy OUR nation is? Grandparents raising their grandkids is a travesty!

Voice Of Reasin.
'Nuff said.

Don't play into the hands of the Lefties
by pretending there is no problem with jobs in the United States.

We do not agree with the Obamas' Marxist solutions to problems that face Americans, but nevertheless, the growing number of Americans who are struggling are REAl, and they vote.

Both McCain and Romney have mentioned that our economy is suffering from problems, and I hope they have plans for good, FREE MARKET SOLUTIONS to those problems.

Corporations are being wooed away from here by other countries.

For example, Canada is giving generous tax breaks to the motion picture companies to shoot there. Much of what you watch on TV and in the theatres are no longer shot here.

I believe that the US government has the duty to compete to get these and other American jobs back by making it attractive for corporations to do business here.

Although I have a lot of criticism for American corporations, I must say that it is very hard to find a decent paying job in a mom and pop operation. The big companies take in a lot of money, and have the money to keep a lot of people employed at livable wages.

One of the things the government can do is offer tax incentives to corporations that hire and retrain Americans for new technology jobs, instead of bringing foreigners here to staff the offices they open here.

Whatever the government decided to do, it should NOT be NOTHING.

If well menaing conservatives refuse to address the struggles of displaced workers, you will find more and more people turning to the Lefties, who seem to want to DO SOMETHING!

This woman is
nasty. She makes my insides feel crawly. How anyone, who has as much as she does, can speak about America the way she does, is beyond me. She has more unmitigated gall than Hill and Bill ever thought of having.

The BOs have had things handed to them on a silver platter! They are a pair of nasty, ungrateful, narcissistic, elitists that feel all they have and, more, was owed to them just because they are who they are! These are the kind of whiners that give dems a bad name.

There is no way in hades that these two could represent this country in ANY proud and meaningful way. I would be ashamed to have these two as our president and his wife, and I do not say this lightly!

craftyone
Good point - "How anyone, who has as much as she does, can speak about America the way she does, is beyond me."

Is it possible that they're preying on this portion of the nation to win votes because they (B. Hussein & mate) recognize the vast power they will have? It isn't enough to be filthy rich, you have to try to run the greatest nation on the planet (hopefully not into the ground).

Voiceofreason - Put all the cards on the table. May the least evil win. I'll take Cindy's infidelity and Keating 5 over Michelle's Black Liberation Theory (Marxism) ANYDAY! I don't agree w/ McCain on MANY issues, but at least he had the bravery to serve our nation and survive being a POW. Michelle survived the stinging racism that seems to be rampant at Harvard and across our Nation.

There is no escape...
...from the simple fact that to a large degree, we are known by the company we keep, and for good reason. This has always been the case and always will be. In that regard, McCain stands well above this sad little caricature of failed socialist dogma and empty 60's delusions.
The company Barry has kept speaks all too plainly of his true nature, Period.
His pastor, mentor, inspiration, friends like Ayers and wife etc., all share symptoms of a common sickness.
Hatred. Bitterness. Cultural self-loathing. Elitist contempt for and disconnect from the very heart of America.
Sociopathic compulsion to bring-it-all-down-man!
And the audacity to run as one who would unite and heal?
Hysterical.

Libertyworld
Exactly! Succinct and to the point. They would like nothing better than to "bring-it-all-down-man!"

Please spare us from facing four years
of Michelle Obama lecturing us. I don't think I could take it.

Mr. Hewitt
Thank you for not quoting a single "snipet." I sicken by hearing Wright's "snipets" are taken "out of context." Michelle's words are horrific and fear mongering. There is no mistaking her views!

....
The democrat party has always been a national disgrace; from supporting slavery, anti-lynching laws, Jim Crow, segregation, the KKK [an arm of the democrat party], etc. but with Obama poised to become the donks presidential candidate their party has sunk to new depths, well below the gutter where Clintonista can be seen doing backstrokes. This America hating degenerate surrounds himself with leftist dregs, a terrorist, is an economic illiterate, geopolitically retarded, supports late term abortions, the only one who supported a draconian law that if a baby survived an abortion that baby would have to be killed. How could a person who supports such primitive barbarity possibly run for President of the United States? It's a reflection of the millions of vapid dimwitted degenerates we have in this country, otherwise known as liberals.

Gas prices!!!
Nancy Pelosi has a plan!

Haters!

First, Michelle Malkin
Outdoes even herself with a nasty little hate piece on Michelle Obama, now Hugh Hewitt, just 24 hours later.

Do I see a pattern here? A plan?

....
----Democrats supported anti-lynching laws?----

Did your gay-studies professor tell you differently? You should ask your university for a refund.

"Shamefully, Democrats fought against anti-lynching laws, and when the Democrats regained control of Congress in 1892, they passed the Repeal Act of 1894 that overturned civil right laws enacted by Republicans. Republicans started the NAACP to counter the racist practices of the Democrats, and it took Republicans five decades to finally enact civil rights laws in the 1950's and 1960's over the objection of Democrats."

Ending her BO pep talks with a few rousing rounds of "Yes We Can!" "Yes We Can!" puts one in mind of chants heard at Trinity UCC where they short "Hozanna!" upon hearing "G@d damn the USofKKK!" or Hitler ending his oratory with a few "Sig Heil!" "Sig Heil's!" The looks of rapture on their worshipers/fans is all the same.

She and the Rev oh so Wrong are both rabidly antiAmerica to their core and preach nothing but victimhood. She now to the whole country and the Rev to the black community. We have raised the bar so 80% of black children in the ghetto are victims of one female parent households? There cannot be a better way to insure another lawless generation of black males in the ghetto than to have them being raised by a single female.

Michelle and the Rev Wrong firmly believe in blame America first! This country has more freedom and opportunity of any on earth! You cannot compare any nation to utopia but the USA is by far the best nation on the face of the earth compared to all others! What percentage of young ambitious people in this whole world would jump at the chance to come to this country? I believe it would be well over 50% with the USA coming out far ahead of any second choice.

Isn't it very odd that black immigrants from Africa see nothing buy challenge and opportunity in this country while native born blacks see nothing but racism and victimhood? Have the native born been listening to Reverends Wright, Jackson and Sharpton and now Mrs BO for way to long? Unite and change what a farce!

Keep talking Michelle
The more she speaks the more she solidifies their base. Their base loves her words and she knows it. I heard too much from her on the radio this morning and all I could think of was the people who attend their church. They have been hearing a similar theme for years.

The problem will be outside the base her words won't play so well.

Great piece Hugh. Michelle, please keep talking. The left knows and loves you. The rest of us need to her the steady drum beat of how awful out lives are. Real inspiring. The kind of leadership I want.

Obamas' are Immoral
"The Nazis are well remembered for murdering well over 11 million people in the implementation of their slogan, 'The public good before the private good,' the Chinese Communists for murdering 62 million people in the implementation of theirs, 'Serve the people,' and the Soviet Communists for murdering more than 60 million people in the implementation of Karl Marx's slogan, 'from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.' Anyone who defends any of these, or any variation of them, on the grounds of their 'good intentions' is an immoral (NOT 'amoral') enabler of the ACTUAL (not just the proverbial) road to hell." -- Rick Gaber

America the Land of Opportunity
Does Michelle Obama also wear a scarlet cloak while she cries "Oh misery, Oh misery, Oh woe is me"! It's time to stop whining & asking for hand outs and begin making changes. Oh I forgot, that's what Obama stands for, CHANGE. Well, instead of crying and whining make some changes. I learned as a little girl if you want change it must begin within yourself. To be a winner you set goals. When you reach that goal you set bigger goals and this process continues each day. I've never known a winner to lie in a corner and whine or cry because life has dealt them a bad hand. Everyone has bad days, weeks etc. Ok. So what, you're no different than anyone else. We all can make our lives a little better and more comfortable. Or worse. It's a choice.
As I say to my girlfriends..."get them knockers up". That's my advice to Michelle. Take a deep breath and hold your shoulders high girlfriend!
Life just can't be that bad.

Just what IS a community organizer?
Mrs. Obama: "Barack spent years working with churches, busing single mothers down to City Hall to help them find their voice, building the kind of operations on the ground just like he’s doing in this race, block by block, person by person."

I get it!! He was one of those guys who rounds people up and busses them to the polling places to vote (gives them a pack of cigarettes or 5 bucks, and counsels them on which lever to pull).
They all happen to be democrats.
School busses full of voting democrats. Someone's gotta organize that I guess.

In all seriousness, if I saw "Community Organizer" on a resume, I'd see it as a red flag.
Come debate time, I hope someone asks him to spell out his actual duties. Who he worked for. What he did.

Mr Obama
may not have been listening in church, but Missus was.

The Dems. have two 19th C.
socialists with pacifist tendencies that hate the military and hate the vast majority of Americans running for the office wildly more powerful than any Caesar of Rome.
They represent radical academics, harebrained students (1/2 in remedial classes; I kinow, I teach them), the homosexual agenda, the feminist agenda, the trial lawyers, former Weather terrorists, crooks like Rezko, and hate-mongers like Wright. That is not middle Am.
Since Obama has extended the peace offering to Hillary saying he'd consider her for veep. the Dems. think they have the *dream team.* But the longer Hillary campaigns, the higher her negatives go. The longer Barack campaigns, the more obvious it will be that he is inexperienced, radical, and not ready for prime time.
As far as McCain and the Keating Five krap: he was never arrested or indicted, he was never found culpable by the Senate Ethics Committee, he was cleared of all allegations.
I know the NYSlimes and MSM never get around to the guy who is acquitted once the media has decided someone is guilty, but in the Keating business, McCain was guilty of nothing except trying to help a constituent.
As to Cindy McCain, it took the Clintons 16 years to release their tax records. Bill never released medical records while he was pres., and they both were involved in a land scandal that put dozens in jail, including a former Arkansas gov., unfortunatly, it wasn't Bill Clinton.

Get them Knockers Up!
Girl power I haven't heard that one before and it gave me a go laugh! Take a deep breath, shoulders back and get those knockers up! Sounds like a good rallying cry for republican women or maybe Dolly!

Write on Girl Power!
Great post!

Girl Power
We love you, girl, even if our knockers have been heading south for a while.

Here's my take on MichelleO. Her own life is just fine. But she's been listening to old Pastor Wright ranting his lungs out for so long, she's convinced that the whole country is in the same straits as South/side Chicago.

She's out on the stump to prove she feels our pain. It's a ploy to convince us she's one of us, the clueless, hapless, idiots hopelessly stuck in the squalid trenches. The Obamas have their troubles too: School debt, needing two-incomes, family, granny has to be the nanny, Barack in a self-sacrificial job instead of working on Wall St.

She's trying to prove she's one of us, feelin' our pain. I guess this is working in some quarters, but I don't think it's gonna work for average Americans.

Uh, Michelle, How is raising my taxes going to fix my problems?

And Obama thinks small-town...
...Americans are bitter?

Hugh - Thanks for posting Michelle Obama's entire rant and not just a 'snippet' that was 'taken out of context.' After reading Michelle's dark and hopeless screed on life in America, you'd almost think she's never been proud of our country. Oh, wait. I think we already knew that.

But seriously, this awful woman is so negative and whiny you don't know whether to pity her or despise her. Is she suffering from a psychotic reverie or clinical depression, or does she really harbor so much hatred for America that she can't put a lid on it?

I suspect the latter, but it really doesn't matter. Either way, she'd make a horrible First Lady.

Oakley
Not only is Michelle politically dimwitted, her whining and negativity are unbearable. She sounds like fingernails on the proverbial chalkboard! She just doesn't have any self-control over her mouth.

And to think that the MSM likened HER to Jackie Kennedy, the very essence of class, grace, diplomacy and style.

I can only shudder to imagine Michelle representing the USA as first Lady!! Yikes!! She may be able to wear the nice clothes and pearls, but she ain't no Jackie Kennedy, not even close. Jackie did her husband and country proud. Michelle would be a train wreck or worse!

Oakley
WHO compared MO to Jackie? That, as you say, is just nutz! There could not be two more opposite women. Jackie almost never opened her mouth. It's shocking when the History Channel actually plays the rare tapes of her speaking to hear her tiny, little girl voice. Jackie's most famous quote is: You can't quote silence.

JackieO was the pride of America. MO is a national embarrassment.

It's nearly inconceivable ...
..that this bitter, arrogant, unappreciative, self-absorbed, pathetic, elitist, ingrate may become the 1st 'Lady' of this once great country!

These two Obamas make the Clintons look like saints!

Let me correst myself...
These two Obamas 'almost' make the Clintons look like saints!

My previous statement left a real bad taste in my mouth....lol

Michelle
I read some quotes of her talking to some low paid women workers. She told them they shouldn't bother to go to college. It was too hard to pay off the student loans!

She and Barak do not like this country. God help us if he is elected.

Keep it up Righties!
As I posted on Hugh's blog, the swing voters who will decide this election are just going to LOVE these smarmy, small-minded, hateful attacks on the candidate's wife.

Please, by all means, keep it up.:)

Michele Obama
Not that this is news to me or most of you, but I can see from the comments that democrats definition of an attack is printing their own words. Message to democrats: look up the word attack. Oh yea, it's a six letter word. You only know about four-letter words. if you want examples of the word, listen to democrats. Actually Michele could fund many of Hussein's pork barrell projects by selling some of that stuff that makes those bars move around all over the place. I think the inventer of LSD just died recently so she could step in to fill the void.

"Great Satan"
Message to the one who calls himself or herself "The Great Satan": You can't be any more creative than that? If you are who you say you are you are a copycat:Everything God creates you try to copy. You haven't had an original idea since the beginning of time. You are a lier so why should anyone believe you. You are so disgusting that you want to destroy anyone and everyone and the more miserable people are the more you like it. No one cares what you have to say so either get an idea or get a clue.

THE GREATEST AUTOBIOGRAPHY...
ever written...A messiah...from community organizer to presidency. He has seen them all. He is the truest of all.

My golly, I hope this guy will be crushed in the general elections so that he will never pop up again on the national level like George McGovern.

Michelle needs to go lay down and sober
She seems to have bellied up to the bar, but can't hold her liquor.

Community Organizers like....
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are examples of community organizers. Nuff said...ouch!

I can't wait to see Obama elected and the good Rev Wright sleeping in the Lincoln bedroom. Probably spray paint graffiti on the walls.

America is outside Hugh's mainstream
According to the folks who agree with Hugh, the Obamas are the following:

Marxist, B. Hussein, immoral, do not like this country, hate this country, are comparable to the Nazis, and, most precious of all they should just shut up because since they've made it they should enjoy their money and ignore the folks where they came from. Make like the Jeffersons. Yup, I've got mine, now you get yours!

Yet it's Michelle who is outside the "mainstream." I just love unintended comedy bits.

BTW, for over a century populist movements such as the Farmer-Labor party in Minnesota have used much the same language as Michelle. They led to the 40-hour week, social security, minimum wage, and farm relief, all that "outside" the mainstream stuff. You can look it up, it was in all the papers.

Mountain Rose
MountainRose laments: "Corporations are being wooed away from here by other countries...I believe that the US government has the duty to compete to get these and other American jobs back by making it attractive for corporations to do business here."

What's hysterically funny to me is to listen to people (on the left AND right) pi$$ and moan about big, greedy, selfish, evil corporations, their overpaid executives and the harm that they do. Corporate America has been blamed for everything from global warmiing (oops, it's global "climate change" now.) to "running America," whatever that means.

Business has taken its place beside terrorists, serial killers and space aliens as Hollywood villians. Politicians are constantly blaming business for the results of their own mandated policies, regulations and protectionism, and the American great unwashed, pathetically ignorant of even rudimentary economics, shake their fists in anger.

Ask anyone in a bar or on the street why fuel and food prices are so high and they'll tell you it's corporate greed - that businessmen are price gouging. Never do they look at the real causes: confiscatory taxation, crippling regulations, outrageous lawsuits, an ever-dwindling literate workforce and government intervention are but a few major reasons corporations are leaving for foreign shores. We've got hordes of workers to do the jobs Americans won't do, but Americans are becoming increasingly ill-equipped to do the jobs Americans will do. Well suprise folks!! There are people elsewhere who're only too happy to do those jobs at far less cost and far less hassle.

Americans should be very carefull what they wish for. Like others who've been made out to be villians and who've gone the way of the buggy whip (husbands, the traditional family, nuclear power plants, etc) Corporate Ameica may just take you at your word and leave where they're not wanted.

Mountain Rose
*For example, Canada is giving generous tax breaks to the motion picture companies to shoot there. Much of what you watch on TV and in the theatres are no longer shot here.*

This is not actually true. Because of the steep rise in the Canadian dollar and the behaviour of the Canadian unions, the former Hollywood North is languishing in stagnation. I believe this is also one of the DEMANDS the act-ors are adding to their strike threat (oh please go on strike, I really enjoyed the writers strike! No new teevee! Run movies on all channels!)

Oh, and about Michele Obama? Her fount of bitterness springs from the knowledge that try as she might, she will never be White. It is like a girl who weighs 68 lb. looking into the mirror and seeing the Morbidly Obese spectre the media claims everyone is. She demands that society accept her as White! No matter how hard she tries, she cannot reach that bar. The only therapy that will soothe her rage is being Queen of the World. Except it will not.

This woman needs help. Psychiatric help. Right away.

scary
It becomes more and more apparent that when whites can"t have their way, they will do anything to discredit anyone that does not like them. What a sad bunch, its time to get over it and move on. The white house needs some colour

Dem spouses
Kitty Dukakis...Theresa Heinz...Bill/Hillary...Michelle Obama...the gift that keeps on giving

Obama says:
"You know, jobs like my father had those blue collar jobs where you got pensions, vacation, all that, they’re dwindling. They’re drying up. They’re disappearing, going overseas. And if you’re lucky enough to have a job, nine times out of ten, your salary’s not keeping up with the cost of living."

So even though WE ALL KNOW this is TRUE, somehow, Michelle is RADICAL for pointing this out. And John McCain supports a war rejected by 70 percent of the American public - but he's the serious mainstream candidate.

It's amazing that Hugh can't point to a single aspect of the speech that's untrue - nor can the Town Hall droolers, so they attack the speaker...

If this is what McCain brings to the debates - he's so dead...

"Gas prices going up, food going up, rent, insurance, own a home, what’s going with the mortgages? That’s going up. It’s all going up, and salaries are staying stagnant."

true, true, true and true...

" Let me tell you, single parents love their kids, too. But it is almost impossible to raise a family of any size on a single salary. So now you’ve got single parents who have to double and triple shift"

Go ahead, Hugh - tell America that this is RADICAL...

you idiot.

photogbill says:
"..that this bitter, arrogant, unappreciative, self-absorbed, pathetic, elitist, ingrate may become the 1st 'Lady' of this once great country!"

Do you think by regurgitating the pablum shoved down your throat by your masters will actually work? To call this speech bitter - without refuting a single point, to call this daughter of working class parent elitist, to call this highly successful lawyer - and popular speaker, pathetic, is just absurd - just step to the mirror and let it out:

"I don't like black people..."

The truth will set you free...

Going up, up, up...
Yes, it's true that the economy isn't doing as hot as it was. Some people are struggling, also true. True that some jobs are going overseas. What's scary is the supposed solution presented by the Obamas. Government intervention and regulation is a large part of what has brought us to where we are now. Prescribing more of the medicine that's making you sick is just stupid.

Also, I've heard the attack on McCain regarding his leaving his ex-wife a few times now and I don't hear it refuted. From all I've been able to gather, McCain's ex-wife was in an accident while he was being tortured in Vietnam. After he came back, their marriage was in shambles. They were separated for a period of years before he met his current wife. It's true that he formally divorced his ex to marry his current. But saying that he left her as she was recovering from a disfiguring accident isn't exactly telling the true story. There's plenty of McCain to attack even with your facts straight - might as well get it right.

Michelle
Michelle seems to be more in touch with America than Hugh Hewitt is.

Michelle paints a sad picture of America
I don't see my life in the terms she is using. Mostly I have to take credit for my own mistakes and realize that if I didn't hit a bar (goal ?) it was due to my choices rather than some invisible man moving the bar. I chose to watch TV or go to a movie or play a game rather than studying.

Or maybe you made other choices that were important / even necessary but didn't help your income potential? The point is the choices are ours, not the governments. The best the government can do is tell us they won't help us because it's our responsibilty. Then we won't sit around waiting for a bail out.

So I don't agree with her portrait of America, but also don't see it as that radical. She's helping her husband get a job (an important one to be sure). To do that she thinks she needs to a) show there is a problem & b) give evidence that her husband is the person to help create the solution.

Not radical, typical. Just take apart her argument and see if you agree. Then in November, the decision should be easy one to make.

Michelle's World
I would grant more credit to Michelle if when she started talking about the problems of single parenthood she focused on her black African male compatriots who for decades have been impregnating black women and walking away, leaving the task of raising the children to the mother and grandmother.

More than 50% of black children are born out of wedlock but Michelle believes this is a problem that every American is responsible for and can only be solved by a massive tax shift from the so-called rich white people to the poor.

Has she ever heard of the "War on Poverty," which we lost--and continue to lose every day.

PRICELESS!

teachers don't have the resources?
She's kidding Wright?

To accurately describe Michelle, I would need Jane Fonda's help, as I don't like to use bad language. For some reason that special word automatically pops into my mind whenever I see Mrs. O. Not being a Barack fan, but compassionate nonetheless, I feel sorry for him, as I did for BJ, not so much for Kerry though.

There is something about Democrat pres contender wives. For those of you with the world's most dangerous mental disorder, can you honestly tell me you like Hillary, Heinz or Obama and don't find them repulsive in some/many aspects aspects? BE HONEST!!!!

Study up on Black Theology
and you will discover much of Michelle's language is right out of the texts of Rev Wright and other guru's of Black Theology. Even if Obama claims to not be in the pulpit during some of Wright's most far out sermons, it appears Michelle was there.

I fear that Obama and Michelle are part of the all too present dogma of let government do it and war on Big Bad Business and Capitalism. See how the public will like it if capitalism tunbles (government doesn't make money or jobs) and income is redistributed so we all have the same. In European socialist countries there is growing discontent and more and more concerns about the numbers of their citizens who aren't working.

Being free, independent and responsible is what made this country. The opposite will bring it down. I have lived a long time so am very content in retirement but I really worry my grandchildren won't have the opportunity by their own efforts to have the life I have had.

entitled mint
it seems this lady does not think she should have to work hard and does not like living in this nation. which nation does she prefer? i suggest she GO THERE. this sounds like whining and complaints of a very selfish person who thinks she is entitled to be the first lady without having to struggle for it. and it sounds like she blames somebody for that reality. education and wealth and position are not enough for this lady. my advise GO GIRL GO i mean somewhere you like to live.

Doggie Breath...
The truth ...you liberals wouldn't know the truth it it bit you in the a$$!

I usually ignore idiots like you but let me restate what I originally said!

Michele Obama is a bitter, arrogant, unappreciative, self-adsorbed, pathetic, elitist, ingrate! I didn't make her that way ...but your buddy the Unrevered Wright contributed heavily to that!

Typical liberal response on your part though. Playing the race card is a liberals 'trump' card whenever a black person is criticized.

If I'm a racist like you've accused me of being ....why is it that I would vote for Thomas Sowell or Michaelle Steele , without hesitation ...in a heartbeat! ...actually I would prefer either of those two men over any of the 'original' GOP primary candidates.

Look in the mirror liberal hypocrite! Liberals are the real, tried and tested, racists who think we should excuse lawbreaking and vile behavior in a group of people ....just because of their skin color! Liberals are the ones who think they have to give preferences to black people because they can't compete on their own. Liberals are the ones that make excuses for a racist Black Liberation Theology heretic like Jermiah Wright.

The Rev. Jessie Peterson is another 'black' man I greatly admire and respect. Too bad for liberals, more and more strong black voices are leaving the liberal democrat plantation and speaking out.

They
1) One wonders if the "they" she is referring to is actually racist code for "whitey".

2) It is almost overwhelming that someone would consider the printing of her words as a attack on her. I guess 'they' (a code word for 'reasonable people') don't call it the looney left for nothing!

3) Did Berry, as a community organizer, establish programs in Chicago to reduce teen pregnancy, high school dropout rates, the drug culture, etc? Or did he just help the already dependent get their government entitlements?

And the answer to these problems are?
Her husband proposes raising taxes on corporations and "the wealthy" and that's going to make business invest in the US again?

Blanket coverage health care for everybody, (just like your congressman gets, right), paid for by taxes on "the wealthy" and big business. That should have investers standing in line. Of course once the government takes over there's going to be all those folks laid off from the insurance companies but, hey, they were probably all Republicans anyway.

End tax breaks for corporations and big business, that should make businessmen look forward to expansions.

Stricter "green house gas" emissions standards and more EPA regulations should have factories breaking ground all over middle class America.

Raise minimu wage to a "living wage" so that small companies hiring entry level people can't afford to stay competitive. That's a real job creator.

Or maybe we can all get a job at the "Yes We Can" poster company but I'm willing to bet they all say "Made in China" at the bottom. In lead paint.

Stop worrying about what the ditz Mrs. Obama is saying and pay more attention to what Mr. Obama is saying. It ain't pretty, and it ain't going to attract those jobs back to America.

MESSAGE FROM MICHELLE

.....That's right Bro ...we not at the Promised Land
yet and we will never get there until Whitey is on his
knees with our jackboot on his neck ...

.....In the meantime, every time Whitey brings us to
that Mountain top and asks, "Are we there yet"? ...all
we have to say is, "We've come a long way, but we
still have a long way to go". ...

.....And when Whitey complains that the journey is too
long, all we have to do is yell "racist" and he will
put his tail between his legs and slink away like a
whipped dog ...

.....It's good to be Black in America bro .....COLOSSUS

Mdogggg
Maybe you missed the point in your haste to get your whole "racial" thing going early this morning.

These were her words, yeah these are real problems, but her man Barry doesn't have the answers for them.

Get over yourself and stop worrying about whatever color your skin is or isn't.

Mdogggggggg
You are a racist snot. Just like BHO, MO and Reverend notWrightinthehead.

Liberals are just too damn lazy. Always looking for excuses and always looking for handouts. Poor babies, life is just so unfair. You can't even raise your own bars. You need someone to do it for you. And when it isn't set just right for you, you complain, complain, complain.

Listen, I set my own bar. When I reach it, I raise it. When I reach it again, I raise it again.

Liberal View on these issues
1. Global War on Terror and National Defense
Libs: There is no war. Cut our defense spending

2. Immigration
Libs: Let the illegals stay. They do the jobs Americans don't won't.

3. 2nd Amendment
Libs: Take it away.

4. Present your Tax and economic plan
Libs: Raise taxes.

5. Abortion
Libs: we must continue to have the right to kill babies.

Right Wing Droolers
whoever said that certainly got it right.

How about one of you geniuses here point out something in Michelle Obama's speech that is not a legitimate position?

Several folks have pointed out that the strategy of maligning Michelle Obama will not work for you in the election. For one thing, it invariable ends up with heavy duty racist overtones, and the majority of Americans are going to run from you like the Plague. Even John McCain knows this: that's why he has opposed using the kind of personal diatribes that used to be successful for teh right wing.

Just because someone calls you a racist doesn't mean they are playing the race card. They may well be telling the truth.

KL: Let Him Go
If CubeCommando wants to post a completely vapid mischaracterization of his opponents, let him. The America people have seen through that kind of bull and they aren't buying it anymore. It just makes the right wing look crazy. Which is fine with me.

King Liberal
My candidate? John McCain? Unfortunately there is no conservative running this time around.

Jack
Not agreeing with a particular black woman's or black man's views does not make one a racist.

Just because someone calls you a racist doesn't mean they are playing the race card. But they probably are.

K.G. writes:

Chris, you may need to change your underwear.

I am so tired
of these whiney crybabies.
This country is the greatest country in the world. The poor in this country have more than the well off in most countries.
The poor here for the most part have decent housing, have televisions sets, cable, internet, food to eat,an education, and clothes to wear.
I'm POOR. I have food, clothes, a vehicle, a computer, a phone,a television, a VCR,an air conditioner for summer, and heat for winter. As most of the poor of this country. And if people would quit whining and start working instead of setting on their "one spots" with their hands out, they might appreciate what they do have.
And most of all, unlsess the liberals keep taking ofver, we have FREEDOM.

MDogg....

Get a grip.

Doggie
Thanks for confirming your racism. You don't even know what color I am.

MO has a clear hatred for this country. Spewing hatred does not solve the problems she speaks about. It only fuels hate. It is not healing and unifying which is what BHO is SUPPOSED to be about.

Cubic Zirconia
"Just because someone calls you a racist doesn't mean they are playing the race card. But they probably are."

I agree, in context. In your experience, they probably are.

I ask you MDogggg
Are you constantly being held back? Do folks keep raising the bar on you? What do you do when that happens? Do you strive to reach a higher goal or are you satisfied to live a stagnant life? Would you rather make something of yourself or do you rely on other people tell you what you are capable or not capable of doing? Would you rather take a handout or would you rather have the sense of accomplishment by earning what you have?

Please answer these questions. I am curious. Do it without bringing up race.

Still Waiting..
for someone to point out where anything Michelle Obama said in this speech qualifies as being "bitter" or as "hating America."

King
We are in an economic slump because of the housing bubble busted, just like the dotcom bubble busted in the 1990's. This credit crunch is due to people taking out loans for homes they could not otherwise afford, and some bad lenders pushing those loans. I think a bailout is a bad thing. It does nothing to encourage borrowers and banks not to make the same mistakes again.

This is not a result of the Bush tax cuts. Congress has for years been pushing banks to make loans to lower class citizens. What we have now is the unintended effect.

Jack
Please point to a post where I have said anything about BHOs or MOs color of their skin.

Millionaire Community Organizer...
Michelle praising the messiah,

"And [Barack] has spent every ounce of his time running over the decisions in his head – do I…when graduating from college, do I work on Wall Street? Make a lot of money, that’d be better for me, or do I go work in a community as an organizer? Well, what did Barack do? He became a community organizer,..."

He's SUCH a noble man, Michelle!! Gosh - he took the self-less approach to life just like your minister Rev Wright and his $10 million home.

You completely understand "our pain" - worrying how to cover private school, piano lessons, ballet lessons for your girls... your being able to take off work for a year to campaign. Yes you struggle and struggle.

Barack's "bitter half"
Never have two people so blessed by America been so ungrateful towards her. That's what we are learning about the Obamas. Michelle's speeches matter because they inform voters what this couple really thinks (and feels) about our nation.

As for Michelle, she's just a bitter, petty woman projecting her own self-pity and pathologies on society at large. She has obviously drunk Jeremiah Wright's undiluted Kool-Aid for far too long -- especially his decree that we must not sing "God Bless America," but something quite opposite.

For all her husband's superficial talk of hope, change, yes we can,...yawn..., he starts off from the same dark place as his 'bitter half' Michelle. That is, in their twisted view, America is a Bad Place -- full of victims, devoid of justice and fairness, with greedy corporate oppressors and on and on. They share the classic distorted worldview of Marxism in all its glorious dysfunction. And that's not a good thing.

GnuforBrains
pray continue. You ranting, being seriously divorced from reality, is a great help.

I am still waiting for someone to point out a line in this speech that qualifies as bitter or anti-American.

MDoggg
Couldn't pass the chance to say that your last response to Cube was very well put.

Good to here that you and the family are doing well. 29 percent, good grief you were getting hit hard. Used to only "The Boys in Jersey" charged that kind of interest.

And yes, when looking at these elections we should all take the wider view and not just look at how things will effect only us.

As I said before, I don't particularly care what Mrs. Obama is saying as much as I care about what Mr. Obama is saying. My opinion is that the policies he proposes will do more to make these problems she spoke of worse, not better. These are the issues I have with Obama.

Actually with Hillary also.

And now that you mention it, McCain too.

The Obama's Agenda
It is clear to me that, regardless of the Obama's obvious interest in seizing the reins of power in this country, they do not intend to wield that power in America's interest, if they are successful.

Theirs is a far-left agenda and one that is focused on either diverting the supposed spoils of power toward their preferred recipients, or just punishing America for its supposed sins.

Either way, these people are poison, insofar as their effect on the fortunes of this nation are concerned.

Jack - the answer you seek...
Michelle's bitterness is found in the texture of her speech. She cries and howls about the "moving bar" - how unfair. Barack raised money (uh don't all candidates have to do that?)... Barack organized ... Barack won votes... states... but they moved the bar!

"They"???

Michelle and Barack are victims. She wants to include us all in her victim-hood - and tell us all how this mysterious "They" moved the bar.

Michelle morphs into Rev Wright - spewing how horrible it is in America .. how wrong it is... waiting for the crowd to rise in hoots of "Amen".

The source of Michelle's continual discontent (bitterness) - the colored lenses of growing up African-American and likely experiencing degrees of racism in this country, adding to it 20 years of Black Liberation brainwashing.

Rarely do we hear such a gloomy assessment than from rich democrats (Michelle, John Edwards, etc).

The Great Satan:
"The democrat party has always been a national disgrace; from supporting slavery, anti-lynching laws, Jim Crow, segregation, the KKK [an arm of the democrat party], etc."
...And the Republicans, of course, have always condemned slavery and racism. That must be why there's not a single African-American Republican senator or representative in Washington...

genius.

John in CA
That is not an answer, and I will explain why.

First off, there is no indication in what she said that she "cries and howls" as you say. I am sure that, as a conservative, you feel comfortable mischaracterizing and misrepresenting others, but I am asking for actual words. not your misinterpretation of those words.

You also write "Michelle morphs into Rev Wright -spewing how horrible it is in America." Can you provide a quote where she said America was horrible.

I find your attempt to morph the term "discontent" into "bitterness" amusing. Can you provide any quote that indicates she is bitter?

Jack
It's going to be a long wait......:)

KEEP IT UP RIGHTIES!!!!

The Great Satan
"Democrats supported anti-lynching laws?----"

Congratulations on the receipt of your Ph. D. in Whacko spin history: At the time you are writing about, Southern Democrats, now Republicans, were the represented not just in the Senate but in the KKK and other lynch mob regulars. Those people now call themselves conservatives.

"Although the House passed anti-lynching legislation three times in the first half of the 20th century, the Senate, controlled by Southern conservatives, repeatedly refused to do so. "

I guess you are assuming that anybody with a brain must be gay.

To King Liberal:
"I mean if the Bush tax cuts were so effective why are we in a economic slowdown/credit crisis where tax relief checks are being mailed out to stimulate the economy? Why did the House with the assistance of 34 republicans approve a morgate bailout? Obama's issue of giving the middle class a tax cut has serious resonance."

The current slow-down is a direct consequence of cheap money causing a housing bubble which exposed an extremely serious structural flaw in global finance that has created a liquidity crisis. The Bush tax credits do not have anything to do with this. However, reducing marginal rates does have a long-term stimulative effect, in the recent business cycle reflected in the economic and job growth rates of the last 6 years.

The tax rebates in the mail, and the mortgage bailouts being proposed in Congress, are simply politics. Politicians know the boom/bust cycle will probably self-correct by the time of the next (2010) election cycle. Obama's middle-class tax cut would actually be helpful given American's consumer-spending driven economy, were it not for his more than offsetting bad ideas.

Consider Obama's disastrous capital-gains thinking. While going after hedge fund operators, he cruxifies the rest of us. A sizable pct of my retirement income coming from dividends, making this a nasty tax increase on seniors. For that matter, if you are younger and in an IRA or 401K, your retirement savings are reduced because typical funds (like mutuals) will yield less due to higher tax rates. The compound effect of these lower yields over the years is to make your retirement income substantially less when you reach that point.

Obama has no serious economic policy. He doesn't even have a serious Iraq and foreign policy. He sounds exactly like someone with the urban community organizer, Ivy League law-school background that he has.

Your central premise was to get serious about the issues. I wholeheartedly agree.

Do your homework.

The failure of the Republican Party was the failure to pander. Republicans have long stood for Personal Responsibility. Democrats have long stood for hand-outs. Generations of families living on welfare, social assistance, and black leaders shilling for their financial benefactors, 90% of the African-American community aligned with Democrats in Washington DC.

It's always easier to blame "The Man" for your failures than consider personal responsibility. Democrats have simply used "White Republicans" as the straw-man for this accusation - so court and keep the black vote.

Sorry if the truth offends you.

Mountain Rose - I dare you

"We do not agree with the Obamas' Marxist solutions to problems that face Americans, "

just what "Marxist solution" has Obama proposed for economic problems?

While we're waiting, I think I'll paint the house.

Jack
Listen to the audio of the speech if you would like to "hear" the cries and howls.

Secondly, my statement was "Michelle morphs into Rev Wright spewing HOW horrible (ie the conditions) it is in America".

But let's continue playing your semantic game - please show me where I accused Michelle of saying "America is Horrible".

I must have said it since you are asking I support my statement. No WAY would you mischaracterize what I wrote.... not you Jack.

I'll wait to see your explanation.

Deathstar... marxism
Just curious - do you have ANY clue what marxism is? Would you even know how to gauge an accurate reply to your request?

Let's assume you're clueless.. and provide a little education for you:

Marxism derived from Karl Marx - German philosopher and revolutionary. Marx addressed a wide variety of issues, including alienation and exploitation of the worker, the capitalist mode of production, and historical materialism.

Effectively Marxism incorporates class warfare (history of struggling classes) to assault "those that have" (wealthy, corporations, etc).

Obama regularly assaults the "huge profits" of the oil companies. He continually assails corporations and calls for them to pay more (taxes). He will raise the taxes of the "wealthy" - which means anyone over $95,000 of income.

WHY call for these taxes??

To pay for (workers) - universal healthcare, mortgage bailout, cutting taxes for lower income brackets.

Does the taking from successful individuals (wealthy) and corporatations to benefit the workers... NOT ring of marxism to you???

Well you're right about that, the truth does happen to offend me. I find it personally offensive that there are so many people in this country who hold such an ignorant view of American society. It's been offending me since January 20, 2001, the day George W. Bush took office.

Question isn't what she sees or doesn't see, the question is what does Mr. Obama propose to do about them.

Provide governmernt health care that all these unemployed people are going to pay for?

Bring back jobs to the US how, by taxing big business more?

Make big oil pay more taxes so that can be passed on to the pump also?

Who cares about her, she's not the one wanting to run the country.

Sorry, I wasn't asking for an ideological spin on what Obama says, I was asking for the quote where he says he favors Marxist solutions to our economy, i.e., revolution, communism, and anarchy.

What you are saying is that anyone who feels that there is an imbalance of justice between, say, a person who dies needlessly because he can't afford health care, and a CEO who robs his shareholders and retires with a multimillion dollar parachute, is somehow communist.

Or, to be rational, I guess you are saying that anyone who questions fairness in our economy at all is Marxist, according to your definition.

I'm all in favor of capitalism, as is Obama, but Capitalism is all about competition. There will always be an underclass, a population of people who just can't compete for a variety of reasons.

I guess I didn't realize that concern for them was somehow insurrectionist. I should probably go to church more moften.

Overlooking the obvious . . .
While it may be presumed that Ms. Obama's remarks reflect her own feelings, more relevant is that they reflect those of her audience. America has managed to create a cultural class of permanent victims. Ms. Obama works to not only identify with these folks - this is central to the approach of Wright, Jackson, Sharpton - but to amplify those feelings. Shared resentments and a mutual bogeyman - the infamous "they" - form a very strong bond. (The "they" is white and corporate.) This is classic negative populism. Don't think for a moment that these remarks and approach haven't been carefully crafted for a clear objective.

This is not to say that there are not many Americans who are struggling, are afraid, yet are working very hard. The Obamas' intent is to add these folks to those above. The target constituency is a large "disenfranchised" class who are desperate for solutions. The more the discontent, the greater the support for Obama.

The problem conservatives face is that real solutions are complex and counter-intuitive. "A chicken in every pot" is understandable and immediate. Everyone knew that Huey was a crook, but still he was hugely popular (and the only politician that worried FDR). If Republicans cannot communicate a positive message of real, tangible hope, the newest Huey will win.

Strangely, it seems that many cannot see how much this is at odds with Obama's message of inclusiveness and post-partisan politics. Of course, the reality is the Obama has no such intention. Just as with Deval Patrick in Massachusetts, this is the message but the actions will be entirely different.

Hewitt, Michele and conservative

It's not for nothing that Hewitt titled his column " Forget Jeremiah Wright. What Does Michelle Obama Think About America?"

It's clear that TH posters have realized that the attacks on Obama's paster have gone nowhere and they should turn their sights on Obama's wife.

Really classy.

JoCa II ... you stepped in it
Jon From California

You clearly don't know squat about Marxism. And I imagine you will get an earful about that.

For starters, Marxists do not advocate "taxing" corporations, Marxists advocate eliminating corporations so that all means of production are owned by the state.

Marxists do not advocate "taxing" the wealthy, they advocate eating them. There are no wealthy in a Marxist state.

There are no mortgage bailouts in Marxism, because no one owns their own home.

And you called someone else clueless?

jon in ca
So, are you of the opinion that progressive taxation is Marxist, or only that certain degrees are?
I'd argue that if the first, your definition of Marxism is so broad as to be an ineffective label for one's opponent.
If the second, precisely how much bracket progression becomes unjust?

Or is it important what the candidate plans to pay for--ie, services for the poor vs. national defense or highway construction or whatnot?

Jack, deathstar
In joca's defense, much as it pains me, Marxism is not the same as Communism. Marxism is more of a paradigm than a specific political agenda, concerning how one looks at and narrates history. Not all Marxists are Communists, however strong the practical correlation between them.

So Obama need not advocate propertilessness (woof) to be a Marxist. That's not to say that he is, but that joca's burden of proof isn't quite that heavy.

Michelle needs some new friends
At the beginning of Michelle's speech, I thought that perhaps she had lifted the diary from a person who later committed suicide and she reproduced the suicide note as the theme for her speech about America. Good grief, literally.
Has anyone investigated as to the outcome of Obama's community outreach program? Do we have fewer out-of-wedlock pregnancies, lower rates of drug use, higher graduation rates? You know, the behaviors that usually lead to success.
Was the need for better paying jobs met by encouraging training and education to meet the needs the better paying job would demand? Were policies enacted to encourage companies to locate in Chicago because they have low tax rates and reasonable regulations? Or, as Liberals are wired to do, did they just throw money at the problem without the beneficiaries making any personal effort to make their life better and make the most of what has been handed to them? Or did those people continue to try and reach that bar---located on the corner and offering cheap shots and a beer? That's it! Michelle's speech was lifted from the writings of a alcohol besotted drunk.

When will I get my change,
my wonderful, wonderful hope and change?

My Obama will give it to me, I just know he will.

He is such a beautiful, fabulous, totally, totally awesome guy.

Also, even though he doesn't actually say it in his speeches, I can just tell by the way that he and Michelle look that they are going to give all of us such beautiful peace and love, along with lots and lots and lots of totally awesome harmony.

I can't wait. I love my Obama.

Sorry, Hugh, but that's mainstream stuff
There is nothing remotely radical about the passages you have posted. Indeed, they reflect the beliefs of most Americans, which is that the country is seriously off course both morally and economically and that it's time for a change. That's mainstream, and if you think you can sell it as radical--well, you'd better do some fancier packaging than you've done.

Cheer up. You guys have always done well as the minority.

Deathstar
Why do you consider outrage over Wright's hate filled diatribes as attacks on him?

Do you believe the US invented AIDS as a way to kill of blacks?

Archer
Hardly; they reflect the beliefs of most liberals who seem to be in a perpetual state of misery.

Deathstar...

Anyone who has a modicum of understanding of the current Tax Policy in our country - yet suggests the corporations and wealthy aren't paying their "fair share" - IS projecting marxism/socialism (whether they understand the definition or not).

The FACT is ... the top 10% of wage-earners in this country pay for MORE than 66% of the total taxes collected by the IRS.

Do the top 10% of wage earners USE 66% of the US Services (welfare, foodstamps, roads, bridges, military defense, etc)??? No - of course not.

The breakdown of taxes paid is essentially 80% of Americans pay for 17% of the bills, with the top 20% paying for 83% of the bills through taxes.

But lets TAX them companies and successful people... it ain't quite fair yet!!! Right??

The best post on this entire page
has been made by Mingus.

It is such a straightforward analysis of strategic positioning of the Obama campaign, and come to think of it, the campaigns of virtually every major Democratic office-seeker in recent history, that it should be required reading for all voting-age Americans.

Your characterizations of Marxism v. Communism are quite debatable. While Marx employed a Hegelian "dialectical materialism" as a way of framing the economic and social reality of his day, he did more than propose a worldview. There is nothing even vaguely Marxist about the things Jon in Cauliflowerland is describing.

Cube commander
Do you believe the US invented AIDS as a way to kill of blacks?"

------------

No, but if I vote for Obama I won't be voting for anybody who does believe that.

I also won't be voting for his wife, his children, his mailman, his doctor, or his computer geek.

JR writes:
"Jon in CA, you forgot to point out to je-ne-sais-quoi that despite the 90 percent dem voting by negroes and having far more coloreds serve in the party, none have reached the level that Powell or Rice have in the republican party. Leave it to someone speaking frog not to get it. Viva La France!"
Oh, merde, quelle surprise. Apparently you have missed the point. Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice were not "elected" to their positions by the entire Republican party.

Jack
To play devil's advocate though, couldn't one argue that since non-labor income from a Marxist perspective is stealing, then the rich owe money to the poor to correct the exploitation inherent in capitalism and the alienation of the workers from the products of their labor?
I don't see how highly progressive taxation would be un-Marxist, so I don't know if it's fair to say "there is nothing even vaguely Marxist" about it.

I know that Marxism and Communism aren't atuomatically connected; it isn't worth spending the time to track it down, but my challenge was originally to Mountain Rose, who for years has done little more than parrot phrases out of the most irrational and quasi-literate posts here.

My ulitmate point, though, is that TH posters throw these terms around like halloween candy because they have a certain frisson which substitutes for rationale. I've been in these dialogues before on TH, and was trying to avoid another one as they never transcend ideology and create more heat than light.

Jack.. please try again...
You wrote, "Uh, right there where you said, "Michelle morphs into Rev Wright -spewing how horrible it is in America." The term "horrible" is your choice of words, not something I made up.

See, Jack, when you play your game of semantics it bites you and you look like the fool.

YOUR WORDS, "Can you provide a quote where she said America was horrible."

To correct you (again) I did not write "Michelle Obama says America is Horrible". I said Michelle spews HOW horrible IT is being in this country.

She is describing the conditions of existing in a country where the bar continually (and by implication) unfairly being shifted.

I'm sorry, Jack, do her words convey gleeful happiness and pride in "the system" she and Barack face?? Is that what you get from her expression?

Jon in Ca writes:
"Awwww... so sorry you're not happy people don't adopt your view of society, politics, etc. Gosh, you poor thing having to live in a country that freely elects their President. I guess the only answer is...

Au Revoir"

It's not individual people having their own opinions that saddens me - it's the culture that promotes ignorance and - contrary to what you may believe - the absence of freedom. Au Revoir, bien sur.

Nyar
Highly progressive taxation on extremely wealthy individuals isn't Marxist because a Marxist system does not allow for the existence of extremely wealthy individuals in the first place.

How could one become wealthy absent private property, a capital market, or inheritable wealth?

Highly progressive taxation is actually a capitalist concept, as it depends on the existence of very wealthy people.

I am grateful for the advent of this discussion though, as it has helped me understand how ignorant the most verbose righties really are.

deathstar
"frisson..." I like that.

Anyway, I agree with you that accusations of Communism are an overused argumentative shortcut that prevents THers from discussing anything substantive about or with liberals, and that only a few posters actually know what they're saying.

It's like the much-decried "liberal race card" that "the libs" ostensibly whip out in every argument.

This debate over the definition
of Marxism and whether or not the Obama candidacy qualifies as Marxist reminds me why was actually useful to study Latin.

I've got one word for you good people to define, and that word is "sophomore".

The assisgnment for today is to break the word into the Latin roots, give a definition for each of the translated English roots, describe the common modern usage of the English word, and finally, to apply the insight gained during completion of this assignment to the current debate.

You may now begin work.

John the California Dodger
First you write: "She is describing the conditions of existing in a country where the bar continually (and by implication) unfairly being shifted."

That is correct. Now you are actually addressing what she says. Good lad.

Then you ask: "do her words convey gleeful happiness and pride in "the system" she and Barack face."

Lo and behold, you ask a legitimate question. (I AM a bit shocked)

But, nothing here is described as horrible. These things are described, pretty accurately, as problems Americans face. Sounds pretty much like what any political figure trying to impact an election would say.

Jack
Was that last sentence a dig at me, or at joca?

You're assuming that for a given policy proposal to be Marxist, the entire economic environment must be Marxist as well.

That's like saying that a democratic reform in a dictatorship can't be democratic because the system is not a democracy.

Marxism can oppose the existence of the wealthy while still acknowledging them.

Even worse
"Oh, merde, quelle surprise. Apparently you have missed the point. Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice were not "elected" to their positions by the entire Republican party."

Even worse, they were appointed by the evil, hate-mongering Whitey. Keepin a brother and sister down by appointing them to powerful positions, what a devious strategy.

The Dodget Part
Still lookign for an explanation of why advocating taxes on the wealthy is Marxist.

george washington -
Here's another appropriate word: oxymoron. Although Latin training might not help so much - this one is of Greek origins.

I applaud your gallant efforts to use persuasive evidence and logic for your conclusions about the Obamas ...MO in particular .....but your simply 'casting pearls before swine' ...as described in the Bible, with the lib-trolls that come here to rant and argue.

The loopy liberals demand' to be given 'proof' but when proof is given ..they either deny it, change the subject (usually to Bush or Cheney), or start calling you names like 'racist'.

I wouldn't want you to stop in your efforts( I enjoy reading your efforts)...however, I hope your not expecting to convice those like 'Jack', 'Nyarlathotep' and 'je ne sais quois'.

Nyar
Definitely not directed at you.

For a policy to be Marxist it would have to appear somewhere in Marxist philosophy, no? And, it would have to be, in some way, unique to Marxism?

Photogbill
You are no more effective at providing evidence than Jon from wherever. You appear to have confused "repeating your opinion over and over again" with "providing proof."

Other illuminative words might be "didactic" and "smug."

Unless you'd like to be polite and just tell us your problem. Go ahead; let your feelings out.

photogbill: "I applaud your gallant efforts to use persuasive evidence and logic for your conclusions about the Obamas ...MO in particular .....but your simply 'casting pearls before swine' ...as described in the Bible, with the lib-trolls that come here to rant and argue."

Oops, sorry for interrupting your Republican orgy. Oh wait, I forgot, unrestrained sexual behavior is a "liberal" value. Hmm, I'll have to think of a better analogy... :)

Shalom

And hey, better to be racist than Marxist, eh?

Jack
I'm not sure that an idea needs to be drawn directly from Marxist philosophy or unique to Marxism to be "Marxist." However, at this point we're quibbling over the criteria for inclusion in an "-ism," so I won't say you're wrong. My standards are just slightly looser, and I can live with that.

My perspective: If a proposal (like tax hikes on the rich) proceeds logically from some major Marxist idea (like the labor theory of value, for instance), it could be considered "Marxist," even though I fully concede you're right about
the facts that
(a) it's certainly not orthodox, standard Marxist policy
(b) it requires that other Marxist ideas, like classlessness, not have been implemented, and
(b) could be arrived at through other ideologies.

Again, though, not looking to wrestle over this, since your definition is perfectly supportable.

photogbill
I'm not sure you want to cast your lot with joca, since he hasn't done a very good job of elucidating his definition of Marxism, aside from arbitrarily declaring that our current proportions of taxation are high, without completing his argument.
In fact, I've been doing most of his work scrimmaging against Jack.

Not to mention the fact that I'm not a liberal, that I haven't changed the subject, played the race card, or ignored "proof" presented to me.

And yet somehow you cited my name.

Today and today only at photogbill's! Baseless insults, two for one!

Nyar
I really do consider you a rational and thoughtful person, so I feel badly you might have thought I was referring to you with scorn.

I challenged the "Marxist" label because using it has become a near standard criticism of Obama, despite the fact that those who use the term don't know anything about it, use it as an assaultive inference rather than as a real criticism, and can't even begin to explain why they think Obama is a Marxist.

Time is up,
please put down your pencils.

Sophomores, or "wise fools" describe the attempts by liberals and conservatives alike on this page to debate the appropriate terms to apply to Mr. Obama and his candidacy.

A little bit of education is truly a dangerous thing.

You see, it doesn't really matter what you call it, only that it be recognized for what it is. Mingus had it right earlier today. A political candidate who promises "change" obviously must convince his or her audience that the status quo is very, very bad. If he or she is unable to do so, the promise of "change" delivery won't sell.

A candidate selling buckets of "hope" must likewise convince the customers that "hope" is nowhere to be found in the marketplace today, but that he or she has just discovered a rich vein of the stuff.

Endless debate about what labels to apply to Mr. Obama are, in my humble opinion, sophomoric.

The only questions that really matter are what public issues does he identify as most in need of "change" (I assume here he means "improvement"), and what specific policies he proposes to implement positive change.
On the topic of Mrs. Obama and the the debate about whether her North Carolina comments could be considered as "bitter" or not, I again find the debate boring and meaningless. Clearly, her words describe a society in which hope is scarce, with the obvious intent to create a "hope" void, as described above, into which her husband can pour his secret reserves of the valuable commodity.

Jack, Ny, Death, Jenny...
I appreciate the spirited banter of opinion and debate. Sadly I must work for my income and unable to spend more time on this thread...

I would offer this highly simplistic (conservative) view of the people/issues:

Barack and Michelle have given and will give many speeches in the months to come - designed to appeal to their base and attract disenchanted voters. We all will filter their words through our own filter of view/belief.

As a conservative I am highly suspect of a relatively unknown candidate (Barack) who promises to unify the country (bi-partisan effort) yet has no bi-partisan record of his efforts in the Senate.

I do believe individuals who consistently surround themselves with questionable characters should have their judgement questioned.... when the person is running to be my President.

I believe our progressive tax system to be quasi-socialist approach to wealth-distribution. I am personally against any pressures to further skew the tax-divide between the classes. If anything I am more of a either a flat-tax approach or national-sales tax (pay as you go). History has shown us repeatedly that societies based on Marxist, Socialist, or Communist economic models do not elicit innovation, invention, or the risk of being an entrepreneur.

Candidates will demogogue and voters will debate. I appreciate having the forum to discuss these issues and your participation - even if I think you're nuts!

:)

But GW
I agree with you. A discussion of which issues Obama intends to address and how he intends to do it would be wonderful. Unfortunately, this is TH and we must spend hours and hours trying to get people to stop relying on name calling and mischaracterization in order to get to that point.

Your analysis of the hope commodity is pretty helpful.

GW
The only reason we're arguing over the validity of the Marxist label is because we're concerned with its accuracy--with its ability to describe things as they are, just as you ask us to do.

You object to a debate over definition without realizing that to recognize something for what it is without having established a term for it isn't very helpful. It may not matter whether we CALL Obama a Marxist, but if he IS a Marxist, as some claim, then yes, it does matter, so it's worth discussion.

Furthermore, my secondary motivation and that of others here is to shed light on the actual definition of Marxism whether or not it applies to Obama, since it's such a tired pejorative on TH. Do you not think that a little lesson in philosophy would be helpful?

JOn, Now Working, Is Correct
He writes: "Barack and Michelle have given and will give many speeches in the months to come - designed to appeal to their base and attract disenchanted voters"

Of course, this is what candidates from the challenging party do. You can't play "the throw the bums out card" if people have no reason to throw them out.Reagan did it. Clinton did it. Bush II did it. This is nothing dramatic in politics.

Also correct, mostly, is this: "History has shown us repeatedly that societies based on Marxist, Socialist, or Communist economic models do not elicit innovation, invention, or the risk of being an entrepreneur." History has also shown that unfettered capitalism will eventually produce a destabilising disparity in wealth. That's why the nmost successful approach in the long run is a capitalist system with a meaningful safety net.

The message
Mrs. Obama is trying to convey is one that dilutes the elitist working class diss that Mr. Obama made. Very damaging statements. They now have to prove how working class they are.
That's all this is.
(Oh unless you don't think he's a politician...)

last thoughts . . .
I'm not sure that GW's point re the Marxist label is so much that it is not relevant, but that obsessing on the semantics of a label, particularly one as loaded as this one (after all, this isn't a college class, it's a common forum) can end up being a "distraction."

The underlying reason for all these debates about what is he or is he not, and why people look so close at associates for indications, is that we do not know who the real Obama is.

Is he a opportunist driven by power? Is he an ideologue? Is he a redeeming crusader? Or is he a pragmatic facilitator?

It's not that there aren't answers. It's that he is being packaged precisely to avoid such "distractions." His appeal is based on highly generalized notions of "change" and "hope", i.e., what is now is very bad, he is one of you and feels your pain, what he offers is far better, just have faith. This is Ms. Obama's message above.

So it is not our fault that we struggle, and then argue endlessly, on exactly who and what he is. It is his doing, and it's done quite purposely. It is his only defense against having no experience or track record of note. And it is superb marketing, in a down market.

Finally, can we dispense with this "his associates are not relevant" nonsense? Of course if someone is a corner case that's one thing. Obama tried to use this argument re Wright (the "crazy uncle"). He now is being pre-emptive, essentially telling the public to rise above and not pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

But the fact is that there are quite a few behind the curtain, and they're much alike. Wright, Michelle, Jesse, Teddy, Ayers, Daley; the list is long. Now, we can't extrapolate that to a particular position on a specific issue, but we can logically deduce a pattern. And of favors given and favors owed.

Personally, I'll take the devil I know.

Jack...
...as far as throwing the bums out, yes Reagan did it but he had help from cousin Jimmy's not too stellar showing.

Clinton did it, but not without the help of Perot splitting the "conservative" vote, (you're not going to tell me liberals were attracted to Ross are you?).

As to a "destablising disparity in wealth", I'm not exactly sure of your meaning. As long as there are some people with more money than others, even by a couple of dollars, then there will be a disparity of wealth.

The meaningful safety net is, I would suppose, government over sight of one sort or another. Problem with government though, it always wants to do more.

Hugh knows how to keep women silent...

I've always found Hugh rather humerous in the way he obliquely refers to his wife as the "fetching Ms. Hewitt" on his radio program. He's certainly got the little Ms under his thumb so the public doesn't get a whiff of her name, let alone her views. (God forbid should a woman eclipse, or even mildly contradict, her husband in this department!) Now if only Hugh, the consummate husband, would give Obama some pointers about keeping the little wifey under wraps, maybe the Republican attack machine would have less ammunition in the fall campaign, and we can talk about some real issues.

But then again, when it comes to politics, I've always maintained that Hugh should get another crystal ball. He's written one book where he proclaimed that the GOP will hold power for the next 25 years (a prediction made before the 2006 mid-term elections where Republicans lost Congress). He then wrote another fawning tome about Mitt Romney, whom Republicans flatly rejected.

Hang in there Hugh. You'll make Harvard proud some day.

Must be more of Wright's influence. Apparently succeeding is a white thing. Remember Wright told his congregation to avoid "middle-classness." That leaves him and his multi-million dollar mansion living in "upper-classness. Hypocrite.

just what is a community organizer?

also, remember Terrrrrresa Kerry Heinz?
when asked when she and John Heinz Kerry were married, she indignantly stated that she would not answer personal questions.

gee, isn't the public record? like when you are born, buy real property, get married, divorced, die?

Terrrrrrrrrresa offered the opinion that the US citizens should be more like Europeans.

maybe if she had been more like an american than a spoiled s.a. Boer, she could have helped John more. she can go home to africa anytime. or go to europe.

you can't go home again!)

she corrected the reporters that her name was not Teresa, but Terrrrrresa (roll those r's).
she should go to europe if she doesn't like it here. and i do not buy Heinz products. minimum wage hikes at the heinz factory in american samoa was specifically exempt from raises in minimum wages by her partner in krime, queen pelosi. nan and her husband have mucho shares in the momma corp also.

Michelle is now the threat
How does it go? Obama has to be under the influence of someone who dislikes this country. Someone had to have influenced Obama to remain a member of Reverend Wrights church for twenty years. That someone had to be so influenced by Reverend Wright that they also influenced Obama to remain a member of the Reverends church for twenty years, right? That person of course would have to be Michelle Obama, right? Obama's rejection of Reverend Wright is useless as long as Obama is married to Michelle right? Michelle believes as Reverend Wright does and as long as Michelle is by Obama's side, it's as good as having Reverend Wright there, right? Wives gives support and advice on occasions to their husbands and the attacks on Michelle, are to show any support or advice Michelle might give to Obama is the same as Reverend Wright giving Obama support or advice, right? Please approach the bench. Case dismissed.

I agree with Michelle!
I returned to my old neighborhood on the east side of Detroit, looking for Dick & Len's, and d*mned if someone hadn't moved the bar. mingus
excellent "last thoughts . . ." on Friday, 5:18 PM!

You made a persuasive analysis/argument of the 'distraction' of arguing semantics ...versus trying to 'define' who Obama really is!

The bottom line for us all: "We're know by the company we keep!" ...whether we like it or not. It's a simple fact of life! ...and the associations that Obama has ingratiated himself with are ones which most of us would never! The added fact that his presidential bid has been favored by terrorists groups like Hamas and others ...does not bode well.

There is a common thread between Obamas wife, friends, mentors, and supporters like Hamas ...in that they all have either great contempt or outright hatred for America!

I agree
with Michelle Obama 100%. I suspect the reason that anyone finds her speech offensive is because her words hit too close to home.

Hmmmmm...
"...smarmy, small-minded, hateful attacks on the candidate's wife."

Let's see... quote a VERY lengthy diatribe by the candidate's wife, mention that her "vision" will "inform" the candidate's "vision" (and since when doesn't a wife have her husband's ear?), and end it with a brief sentence that "her vision isn't one that most Americans share."

Smarmy? Small-minded? Hateful????

Riiiiiiiight.

Hugh...I think you need to take some lessons in "smarmy" from Rev. Wright!

Nothing counts but 'Hope'
Liberals would have us believe that everything we 'know' about Obama should be ignored:

--his wife's victum based bitter opinions about America ...in particular white America

--his mentor Jerimiah Wright's racist indoctrination for 20+ years

--his original defence and excuses given for Jerimiah Wright and his G__ D____ America rantings

-- his 'typical white person' comment as well as his disparaging, elitist reference to people of faith 'clinging' bitterly to their religion

--the racist, anti-Semitic, and Afro-centrist tenets of Black Liberation Theology

--the endorsement of Louis Farrakhan & Hamas propaganda by his church & how financial contributions to his church have enabled this

--his close association with the terrorists dynamic duo named Ayres

--his business dealing with Tony Rezco

--his lack of judgement in selecting friends and confidants

--his early Muslim up-bring

--his apparent 'rejection' of his white half

--his promises to raise taxes on corporations and capital gains and their effects on the economy in general and millions of employee's 401K plans

--his very extreme positions on abortion

-his opposition to defining a marriage as being exclusively between one man and one woman.

--his general inexperience

--his lack of any 'proof' of any bipartisan legislation

--his lies about voting against the War in Iraq when he wasn't even a member of the US Senate at the time it took place

--his willingness to precipitously pull our troops out of IraQ regardless of the potential drire consequences

--his tough talk towards an 'ally' (Pakistan) and his promises to sit down with' that nut-job anti-Semitic holocaust denying hater of America in Iran. Ahmadinejad.

etc ...etc....etc....

...Oh but ...we're supposed to ignore all this and just 'trust' him and his wife when they tell us that they are the only hope for America!

Riiiiight!

I guess there 'might' not be anything wrong with the fact that Obama had an "early Muslim up-bringing" ....in and by itself ....but added to his other Muslim 'connections' ....is a serious concern to me. Those would be his BLT church's connections to Louis Farrakhan, their support of Hamas and the Palestinians ...and more importantly the stated preference by Muslim groups like Hamas for Obama to become president.

Why? Why do our self-proclaimed enemies, Islamic terrorists and the very people who seek to destroy Israel (one of America's staunchest allies) and to force their Islamic false beliefs on the rest of the world .....want Obama to be our next president? Why? Doesn't that question bother you in the least? You don't even find that fact disturbingly curious?

One of the most serious Muslin 'sins' is for a Muslim to convert to Christianity. They have issued death warrants or death decrees to former Muslims that have written books against or publicly spoken out against Islam. Why is it that Obama is given a 'pass' by these same hate-filled terrorists and fanatics?

You said: "Obviously he's not a Muslim" ...how do you know that? ...just because he tells us that?

je ne sais reply - part 2
You added: "but what if he were?"

That's your real question ...isn't it?

Let me help you define me as a bigot!

If he were a Muslim, I and millions of others in this Christian nation would never vote for a Muslim to be our president. I would never vote for an athiest either but I would sooner vote for an athiest than a Muslim. Atheists may deny the existance of God...but Muslims worship a false God and kill and destroy 'infidels' in thename of their false god. It wasn't a group of athiests that killed 3000 of our countrymen on 911. Atheists aren't strapping bombs to themselves and indescriminately blowing up hundreds and thousands around the globe ...neither are Christians, Budists, or any other groups that claim to be religus...that is other than Muslims!

Muslims deny the deity of Jesus Christ (the central theme for which Christianity revolves) ...they claim that he was merely a lowly prophet and good man ...and yet they elevate their prophet Mohamed to worship status ...someone who was a monstrous murderer and pedophile! Jesus Christ never killed anyone while he walked on earth. To the contrary, he raised Lazrus from the dead. He taught us love.

Islam is a false religion that is built on a foundation of hate! It thrives in places where hatred & vengeance dominates the hearts and minds of the populous.

To put it simply ...ISLAM IS NOT A RELIGION OF PEACE!

photogbill - part 1
"You don't even find that fact disturbingly curious?"
Not really, international politics are very complicated. Hamas has many motives and goals, not all of which include terrorism. Their "endorsement" of Obama is not necessarily because they think he will be the weakest on fighting terrorism. Terrorism from Hamas is directed at Israel, not the United States. And the United States has not had a very good record in defending democracies in the Middle East from terrorism (see, for example, Lebanon).
"One of the most serious Muslin 'sins' is for a Muslim to convert to Christianity. They have issued death warrants or death decrees to former Muslims that have written books against or publicly spoken out against Islam. "
When you say "they" you are referring to a relatively small group of Islamic extremists. Please don't try to deny that there have ever been any Christian groups of extremists...
"Why is it that Obama is given a 'pass' by these same hate-filled terrorists and fanatics?"
Why would he have to be given a pass? He's not Muslim! Nor has he ever been! Nor has he ever spoken out against Islam (to my knowledge)!
"You said: "Obviously he's not a Muslim" ...how do you know that? ...just because he tells us that?"
Haha... are you effing kidding me?

part 2
"Let me help you define me as a bigot!"
Okay, thanks.
"Muslims worship a false God and kill and destroy 'infidels' in thename of their false god."
How do you know the Christian God isn't the false one?...That was rhetorical, don't answer that.
"It wasn't a group of athiests that killed 3000 of our countrymen on 911. "
Technically it was. One of the basic "commandments", if you will, of Islam is that you should never kill another person. By violating this, those terrorists, and all others, are actually "false", as they call it, Muslims. In order for them to justify the killing of others, they have to distance themselves from the actual religion. So according to the vast majority of Muslims, they are technically atheist.
"Atheists aren't strapping bombs to themselves and indescriminately blowing up hundreds and thousands around the globe ...neither are Christians, Budists, or any other groups that claim to be religus...that is other than Muslims!"
Yes they are, genius. Get your facts right, please.
"Muslims deny the deity of Jesus Christ..."
So do Jews, Buddhists, Hindus...
"Islam is a false religion that is built on a foundation of hate! It thrives in places where hatred & vengeance dominates the hearts and minds of the populous.
To put it simply ...ISLAM IS NOT A RELIGION OF PEACE!"
Your ignorance is incredibly astounding. FYI.

je ne sais quoi
Maybe you personally know Obama ...and were around him while he was growing up and know him better than people that have had him enrolled in their schools...and those that went to school wit him as pointed out in this expose´:

http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0408/pipes042908.php3

In his autobiography, Dreams of My Father, Obama
relates how he got into trouble for making faces during Koranic studies!

So your answer to the fact that Muslim's are blowing themselves and innocent victims, often including women and children on a regular basis all around the world is: "Please don't try to deny that there have ever been any Christian groups of extremists..."

That's just beautiful! A totally pathetic BS response. Typical liberal obfuscation of reality.

Why don't you try and name me 'one' of these Christian extremists groups ...and the event where they blew up ...let's just say 10 total strangers (just to make it easy for you) ...and let's go back say 10 years ...no wait...let's make it the last 20 years!

I'll be anxiously awaiting your response!

je ne sais
Oh great one! Please enlighten me!

Are you trying to claim that all terrorists who kill in the name of Islam are atheists ...not true Muslims...ad that there is nothing in the Koran that
these 'atheists' can claim are directives from allah!?

Try these out:
--Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191

--You must not think that those who were slain in the cause of Allah are dead. They are alive, and well-provided for by their Lord. - Surah 3:169-71

--But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever you find them. - 4:89

--When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. - 9:5

--Fight unbelievers who are near to you. 9:123 (different translation:
Believers! Make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Let them find harshness in you. (another source: ) Ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers....

--When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks, then when you have made wide slaughter among them, tie fast the bonds, then set them free, either by grace or ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. - 47:4
(different translation: ) When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads, and when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly.

je ne sais
Here's another one that should be easy for you!

Try and find me some examples where these 'real' Muslims you speak of ...have spoken out and denounced all these athiest 'frauds' that are killing and 'slaying' the unbelivers in allah's name!

Any news reports of mass protests by al these 'true' Muslims would be a bonus to mae your case too. Please provide me with documented evidence of these denouncements and condemnations from all these 'real' Muslims.

Michelle Obama
Michelle does not remember the basic tenant of economics, which is that the labor force must be flexible and adaptable to change. Certainly it is true that our government has dropped the ball with regard to globalization, illegal immigration and other issues, but the bar is not being raised by some evil and hidden governmental force. The bar is being raised due to a changing world economy. Each individual must determine a way to survive in this changing environment. The government can do very little to change the overall trend.

Whoo! Pictures Of Michelle Smiling
Hats of to the TH photogs and website content guys, youse (I-talian for you) have posted the only two known pictures of Michelle Obama smiling, considering she is a rich Black woman attorney with a Senator husband running for the Presidentcy she as they say is living the dream.
Just show us a couple of incisors, maybe even a molar here or there, she can really hit the first lady lottery if all goes well, go on laugh Michelle, you know you want to, you did good, you made your parents proud you picked a more than adequate provider, most women end up picking idiots like me with huge belly's.
Go on girl smile you have much to be thankful for.

Wall Street Journal on Cindy McCain
I got this email the other day and wanted to see if anyone could put any holes in it.

Bet you would have never guessed this one! No matter your politics. The media will never tell of this, so pass it on.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal on Cindy McCain, John"s wife. All I ever saw was this attractive woman standing beside John. I was surprised how talented and involved with world problems she is. This is a summary of the article. She graduated from Southern Cal and was a special-needs teacher. After her Dad died she became involved with his beer distributing firm and is now the chairwoman. Sales have doubled since she has taken over from her father. They have a marriage prenuptial agreement, her assets remain separate. She is involved around the world clearing land mines - travels to these countries on a detonation team and service on their board. They have a 19 year old serving in Iraq, another son in the Naval Academy, a daughter recently graduated from Columbia Univ., an adopted daughter in high school, and a son who is the finance guy at the beer firm. Raised kids in Phoenix, Az rather than Washington DC.(better atmosphere) He commuted. In 1991, Mrs. McCain came across a girl in an orphanage in Bangladesh. Mother Teresa implored Mrs. McCain to take the baby with severe cleft palate. She did so without first telling her husband. The couple adopted the girl who has had a dozen operations to repair her cleft palate and other medical problems.

They have a Family Foundation for children's causes. She's active with "Halo Trust" - to clear land mines, provide water and food in war ravaged and developing countries. She will join an overseas mission of "Operation Smile", a charity for corrective surgery on children's faces. She has had two back surgeries and became addicted to pain killers. She talks openly about it which she says is part of the recovery process.

the bar for Barack has never changed
Mrs. Obama's remarks are completely disingenuous. For someone with her education (2 Ivy League degrees), she certainly should know better. The "bar" for Barack, or any other democratic candidate, has never changed and has been totally clear from the beginning. Both he and Mrs. Clinton have worked very hard, but one must garner 2024 1/2 delegates to win -- period! She claims that the bar is "constantly changing for this man." In fact, it has NEVER CHANGED!! She claims that he's raised money, built and organization, won a whole bunch of states, but that they are now not the right states. She then says, "You got to win certain states." I can't imagine she believes this. She must know that candidates do not need to win certain states, but that they must win 2024 1/2 delegates.

Thank you, Hugh, for printing Mrs. Obama's comments and revealing her as a liar. The "bar" has never changed for Barack and until he wins 2024 1/2 delegates, he was not won the nomination.

Get Them Knockers Up
Thank you for quoting the divine Rusty Warren. Maybe she will come out of retirement and enter the campaign. On "elitism"; this week's TV Guide mentions a new reality show called "Mobile Home Disaster" with a snarky little snark about "the mobile home set." Media press elitism? And non-political Jackie Kennedy once beat on McNamara's chest at a cocktail party, demanding he end the Nam War.

Another conservative circle jerk
Yeah, Obama better get his biotch in line, maybe slap her around a little, conservative style. How dare she stand up and criticize 'murica. The founding fathers NEVER would have put up with that crap.

Oh, now it all makes sense!
When I first heard about the Rev Wright I was appalled. I asked how anybody could let their little girls sit there and listen to that crap. Since they are of mixed race I consider it child abuse, as it teaches self hatred. A friend gave me the "snippets, out of context, wounded old soldier, from a different era", etc. arguments. I didn't buy it and it made her furious.

Now that I have heard Michelle I understand. She is the one that believes all that stuff. Obama's need to be more black played well with her poor me, south side of Chicago and she latched onto an up and comer and converted him to her religion.I wonder if that was her church originally.

Can this woman really be the First Lady?

Read her racist thesis-worse than speech
If the Obama campaign didn't consider Michelle Obama’s inner thoughts of this thesis being revealed a liability, then why did she have access to the thesis blocked at the Princeton website until November 8th…a few days AFTER the national Presidential election on November 4th??? BUT thanks to DontVoteObama.com we now have the photocopies of it HERE!

MICHELLE OBAMA THESIS PART 4:
http://www.dontvoteobama.net/adobe/michelle%20Obama%20thesi s%20part%204.pdf
Michelle Obama not only separates whites and blacks in society, but she elevates blacks over whites in her world. "There is no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost". As First Lady, she would have numerous resources to reach this goal. Again, not exactly "first lady" material!

THIS WOMAN IS NOT 1ST LADY MATERIAL !

Obamba and PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION
The media doesn’t understand why Obamba loses the Catholic Christian vote. Let me give them a lesson since they are out of touch with America: It’s called Partial Birth Abortion and Obamba is the leading Senator pushing it through Congress:

Partial Birth Abortion: KILLING BABY 6 MONTHS AND UP

To see images of partial-birth abortion click here:

http://www.priestsforlife.org/resources/dc/index.htm

1. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps.
2. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
3. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
4. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
5. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.

SO DO YOU STILL THINK OBAMBA IS THE MESSIAH?
DO YOU WANT THIS MONSTER IN THE WHITE HOUSE?

Michelle is not Bitter
Michelle is far from bitter, but she does speak the truth of our nation if Americans are honest with themselves regarding race relations.

First lady material......accepting guest for parties hosted by the President, not sitting on boards regarding healthcare and then botching it.

HRC is not the woman to be VP.

So many gullible Americans.....
Before addressing Ms.Obama’s socialist, "I know what's best for you” elitist tirade, goaded by her personal distain for the individual freedoms we American’s hold dear; it is necessary for me to address the previous comment posted by the liberal lunatic “Voice of Reason’s”.
Question: Are all of the people in support of your agenda, complete cowards? Your song never changes, nor does it miss a beat. Liberals like you refuse to discuss the actual issues, but instead waging personal attacks to redirect the focus of the points at issue. This academically shallow tactic is used consistently, to cover for the absence of logic and comment sense in your positions. Sir, this is not the Huffington Post or Daily Kos. Please do your best to stay focused and at least try to intelligently address the merit of Ms. Obama’s diatribe. It seems an entire group of you twerps have been instructed by your radical leaders to infiltrate and disrupt conservative media sources with your idiocy.

It is an insult to hear a rich woman with a $1.3 million dollar mortgage, who has been handed more opportunities, on a silver platter, that 99.99% of population to speak about a “Moving Bar”. It is clear that she and her Presidential candidate husband, who together have already made $3 million dollars this year in combined personal income, feel that they are best suited to instruct us how to share the remaining wealth in a way they deem appropriate. Her vision is of a society where everyone, regardless of talent level or motivation will only need to reach one predetermined, identical “Bar” to be like everyone else. Her world is subsidized by all, in a way where everyone wins and we are all members of one big equalitarian family. A perfect society, where individual feelings are never hurt and the right of guaranteed social equality is amended to our Nation’s Constitution.

m. osama obama
I guess that nappy headed monkey is now proud of her country. Osama and m. osama now have the best the country can offer. Unbelieveable, I went to Viet Nam for this kind of low life.
