Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

In the two days since Florida and in the one day from the debate at the Reagan Library, conservatives across the country are sounding the alarm that John McCain's nomination means the end of the Reagan agenda. Blogger Dan Riehl spelled it out in a reflection on what the Mccain-dominated GOP's party platform would look like, and it isn't pretty.

Columnist Robert Novak confirmed reporter/columnist John Fund's story that McCain wasn't a fan of Justice Alito.

Talk show host Mark Levin penned a cri de coeur at NationalReview.com, one that is repeated again and again by many other veterans of the Reagan Revolution on and off the airwaves.

Talk show hosts Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and me all underscored in hour after hour of programming that conservatives now face a very clear choice: McCain or Romney. A vote for Huckabee or Paul is a vote for McCain.

And in Wednesday night's debate, Romney moved quickly to remind Republican voters that he and John McCain differ sharply on Bush's tax cuts and exploration in ANWR, which McCain opposed, and McCain-Feingold and McCain Kennedy immigration "reform" which McCain not only supported but authored. The two also clashed on global warming, and John McCain's big government "solution" to climate change represents the biggest regulatory burden on business in the modern era. Romney pointed out that the proposal co-authored by Mccain and Joe Lieberman would put a crushing cost on American consumers, ship tens of thousands of jobs out of America, and do nothing to clean the global environment because it is not a global solution.

John McCain saved Romney the trouble of going negative in the debate by putting on open display the temperament that has earned John McCain a measure of infamy in the Senate and beyond, and McCain's refusal to back away from the obvious-to-all low-blow distortion of Romney's Iraq positions left a queasy feeling among even McCain supporters. This was not a display of anything like the skills that would be necessary to defeat Senator Obama in the fall. In fact, just the opposite.

Many heads in the spin room at the debate from which I was broadcasting were shaking after the Giuliani press conference as McCain looked bleached and worn out. They were still shaking after McCain’s shaky debate. On many Republican lips was a familiar name: Bob Dole.

Bob Dole, without the conservative principles, perhaps, or the energy.

Romney by contrast was as polished and professional as ever, and his command of the facts and the debate far superior to that of McCain's. Romney's problem sat at the end of the stage --Mike Huckabee, the conservative coalition splitter. Amiable, smart, and ambitious for the vice presidency, Mike Huckabee is staying in the race not to win it --Huck's far too smart to believe that fantasy-- but to keep the conservative opposition to McCain divided.

Will Huck succeed and throw the GOP to McCain?

MSM thinks so, but they also thought Hillary was headed into a double digit blow-out in New Hampshire. MSM is assuming that the vast majority of Giuliani supporters break for McCain and that Thompson, Huckabee and Paul voters don't break to Romney now that the race has clarified.

Many people are assuming many things, but Super Tuesday is a big day and a large map. Many conservatives are unwilling to return the party to its 1968 through 1979 leadership and ideas. Only Tuesday night’s results will tell us if they are sufficiently numerous to keep the Romney campaign for the Reagan agenda alive and moving forward.

Absolute Desperation
Now we're down to begging not only Huck voters to switch, but also Paul voters? It's hysterical how low Rombots like Hugh have sunk to try to get Romney nominated. Face it Hugh, your boy doesn't have a chance now. And think of it, he's succeeded despite the constant yammering of you and the other mouthpieces. How inconsequential you and your pals have become in this election.

The bleached dinosaur McCain
Obama just had a record blowout fund raising month. Try to imagine a ghostly, short and cranky McCain in a debate against tall, eloquent and charismatic Obama. A lackluster poster boy for the entrenched ancien regime trying to go against the electic "change" candidate. Only the blind faithful can be in such denial of the obvious to think McCain has even the remotest chance. I don't think Romney has a significantly better chance either but he DOES have a chance. At worst, Romney can lose strong and plant a marker for 2010 and beyond. If we must lose, let's lose constructively. The next 2-4 years are going to be brutal economically and the next president will be hamstrung. The GOP could be looking good in 2010 if it doesn't surrender to the liberal platform McCain represents.

OK..I am burning in place...
....but watching the libs debate tonight...How can you not vote for Obama...Sure she is "experienced"... IN BS!
It IS just as hard to be be a conserative, with McCain... as much as being a lib...with Clinton....Lets United WE ARE BOTH SCREWED :)

No McCain No Clinton!! I can LIVE with the alternative :)

Paul & Huckabee will ensure Hillary wins
Paul and Huckabee are handing the nomination to McCain, and therfore the Presidency to Hillary.

Good job guys. Job well done.

Sincerely,

The Democrats

Desperation is right!
We should all feel desparate. The only thing worse for the nation than a McCain presidential nomination would be a McCain presidency.

I've never voted for a democrat in my life, but there's always a first time...

Not McCain!
I left the Republican Party last summer after John McCain met with Ted Kennedy to put together a bill rewarding invaders of this Country. When it appeared that McCain had no chance of the Republican nomination, and Romney was a choice, I went back to the Party to vote for Romney. If he doesn’t receive the nomination, I will become an Independent again – in search of a Conservative Leader. McCain will make it a Moderate Party. My friends, I refuse to go to the polls, hold my nose, and vote for the lesser of two evils.
I don’t trust McCain to build what he termed the ‘GD’ fence. One wonders if his hotheaded temper or his conciliatory attitude will take precedent when dealing with any issue – especially with leaders of other countries.
‘Straight Talk’ McCain is not honest. How honest is it to say that you are a Conservative, and then put together the McCain-Feingold attack on free speech?
How honest is it to say that you are a Conservative, when you want to ignore the rule of law and make millions of illegal aliens into legal citizens?
How honest is it to say that you are a Conservative, when your best friends in Washington are liberals, and you often find fault with the Conservative Republicans; when you join with Lieberman to try to enact a ‘Climate Stewardship Act?’
How honest is it to say that you are a Conservative, when you support federal funding of human-embryo stem-cell research; when the Gun Owners of America give you an F minus grade for 2006; when you are against drilling for oil in Anwar; against the repeal of the death tax; and FOR the closing of Guantanamo Bay, thus allowing terrorists into the US Court System?
We can’t trust his choices for the Supreme Court, because we know that all along he plans to meet with Ted Kennedy to reach a bipartisan consensus!

I WONDER IF MITT ROMNEY MIGHT RUN AS A THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE?

Oh Hawk, you'll be alright
You can move to Massachusetts and you can be the only state that carries the torch of...whatever.

Can Anyone Say For Sure
Angry John and the Demented Dems won't make it a priority to ram the Fairness Doctrine down our throats. That's just me being nice re: the actual location they'll be aiming for. BUT think about it, the resistance to their system comes from places they haven't begun to regulate yet. What do you think the first group of bills is going to look like?
Oppressive & Repressive are words that come to when I contemplate what a John McCain, Barak Obama or Hillary Clinton presidency would be like. Any of the three would sorely test this Republic, each in its own way. But John McCain has Already infringed on We The People's 1st Amendment Freedom of Speech Rights with his (Co-Authored with an Extreme-Leftwing-Lib) McCain/Feingold Legislation.

All it takes for the test to get underway is (to steal a famous quote) "for good men to do nothing" during THESE Primary Elections.

The Constitution holds no guarantee that we will perpetually remain free. Some would argue the 2nd Amendment was the Framers' way of giving us as close to a guarantee as they could muster, a last resort to hold onto OurFfreedoms, so to speak.

No To McCain
No To Compromise
W/O=

No Cincinnati
You are part of the problem. Romney's conversion involved him acting on his "new found" convictions as governor. Does it matter as much as you claim if he campaigned as pro-choice if every decision he made as governor on the issue came out pro-life? You can't pin pro-gay rights on him until you account for the despicable decisions of the Mass Supreme Court. The comparison with Kerry seems to fit McCain more than Romney in such areas as immigration (oh, now he is "enforcement first") and tax cuts (he was against them before he was for them). If you're against flippers, I guess you're out of luck. Your only choice is to vote on who's positions you agree with right now. I'll bet they aren't McCain's. Not on the environment and not on immigration and not on campaign financing (first amendment). Ultimately you don't like Romney because he is too slick. Well, maybe we can get Romney on your side if we put him on Letterman and allow him to muss up Romney's hair the way he did Edwards. Is that what would make you bring you back from the dark side?

Coulter just said
she will vote for Hillary! Sounded like she said
"McCain is bad for Republicans & bad for the country"

W/O=

Ann, you will be alright too.
Go to Massachusetts, do not pass Go! Maybe Florida had too many Bushes for ya.

Write me a postcard from there, if you want to vote for the Hillster. And write me a letter, a very blue letter, if O Bama O Marx O Rama, gets elected. You will be quite safe in Massachusetts.

Voters, bring your ID in Arizona
I know, I know! It's terrible. Just terrible. So where do we go from here?

John McCain is a conservative and a hero
I am sick of these attacks on a man who is conservative and who can win against Hillary and Obama. Make no mistake, Hillary and Obama were arguing tonight during the Democrat debates when to withdraw from Iraq. They intend to raise your taxes, distribute weath and cause tremendous mischief and real harm.

Meanwhile on Hannity and Colmes, Ann Coulter declared she is going to vote and campaign for Hillary because she is more conservative than McCain. Alan Colmes laughed, held up Ann's arm in victory and declared: "My work is done!"

I respect Michael Reagan a lot, but will all due respect you need to get rational on this.

Newt defended McCain on Alito
When asked about this made up Alito controversy, Newt pointed out that John Roberts is a great justice (no less conservative than Alito) and he accepts John McCain's pledge that he will pick justices like Roberta and Alito. Newt objected to Ann and others claiming that they will vote Democrat or sit out, pointing out that John McCain is by far more conservative than the Democrats and (while he has disagreements with him on some issues) is a good man and canidate.

Romney's shameless opportunism...
It was Romney who just two years ago matter-of-factly told the Massachusetts press that McCain’s views on immigration were “reasonable” and that the Arizonan’s call for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented workers was “not amnesty.” Then he discovered that conservative activists were livid with McCain—the same activists whose support Romney badly wanted for his presidential bid. So he reversed himself, began spouting nativist rhetoric, and slammed McCain—in debates, speeches, interviews and television and radio ads—for supporting “amnesty.”

Meanwhile, it was McCain who stood by his position, at enormous political peril, urging a “humane” solution to the immigration morass and acknowledging that illegal immigrants “are God’s children” too. Right or wrong, McCain handled the issue honorably.

That’s just one example of the shameless opportunism that has defined Romney’s effort. In Massachusetts he brought audiences to tears with the story of a “close family member” who died from a back alley abortion, and how the experience had convinced him that abortion should be a matter of deeply personal choice, and not any business of the government’s. “You will not see me waver on that,” he declared.

Heroes vs. Hacks
The heroes are telling me to vote McCain: Forbes, Coburn, Brownback, Arnold and Stallone (movie heroes), Kemp, Crist, Giuliani, and Lieberman (independent hero).

The hacks are pushing Romney: Hannity, Hewitt, Levin, and probably some others working in AM radio.

Rush is not a hack, he's just wrong.

You'll never get me to go Romney because he's a phoney. You mention McCain's immigration reform? Romney PRAISED it before he dissed it. Romney dissed the Bush Tax Cuts by avoiding praising those at the time. Now that it's convenient, he's all for it.

McCain has fought to get the Bush judges in, when they were being blocked, and preserved the filibuster in case Romney - should he somehow prevail in these primaries - loses in a landslide to Hillary. (All polls suggest he would).

According to Romniac logic, McCain is really a liberal, right? Well then, why is Romney losing so badly to someone you consider a LIBERAL -- in a Republican race no less -- even after outspending everyone 20 to 1?

Give me a BELIEVABLE reason to go Romney, and I'll switch. Until then, I'll stick with Mac -- imperfections and all. Hey, at least he's honest about it.

Ted Olson just endorsed McCain
Is he a liberal too? You need to get over your McCain Derangement Syndrome and become rational.

Rally to America!!!
Anyone who has watched the debates MUST see be able to see how...

Both Clinton and McCain must be defeated for the good of BOTH parties...

I can Live with Obama...If you Libs can live with Romney!

Think about it...PLEASE!

question for conservatives
how come mccain gets so much flak for things he did in the past 10 years but with hugh and rush et.al.

romneys record in the past 5 years is much more liberal and they all say "well he has changed"..

let me get this straight romney was an unadulterated liberal before he ran for pres. but since he says he changed its ok.

there is a logical disconnect here.

oh well, many conservatives are not thinking logically at this point.

Note to Mr. Romney
Mr. Romney,
I am writing to strongly encourage you to drop out of the Presidential primary race and endorse Governor Mike Huckabee. At this point, realistically, you are very unlikely to garner more support and delegates than Senator McCain. Even if you were to do so, a huge percentage of American voters will refuse to vote for you (as, indeed, they will if John McCain wins) because they perceive you to be “not conservative enough”, and the Democratic candidate (whoever it may be) will end up winning the election. However, if you back Mr. Huckabee, and he wins the primary, your influence with more moderate citizens his with conservative and Christian voters, would be a huge force to be reckoned with, especially since it is this conservative block that is largely responsible for President Bush’s reelection in 2004. The liberal media understands this, and, therefore, how dangerous Mike Huckabee’s candidacy would be for the Democratic Party, which is why their tactics during the past few weeks have been to smear, distort, downplay or completely ignore him. Please take this into consideration and do not allow this to happen to our country. We cannot afford to lose the White House this year. Do the right thing for America.

Hugh I Just Sent Mitt Money
I called the Mortgage Minute guy today.
Took out a second mortgage on my house.
Donated it to Romney.

Mitt is worth it !

Hilarious!
Oh man, it just keeps getting funnier and funnier. Yeah, sure, Hugh, it's all coming together now for Mitt! Oh, except for that whole Florida and Giuliani and Schwarzenegger thing. Give it up, Hugh. Have you no self-respect??

Notes to various and Sundry
Hilarious -

It is not coming together now for Mitt. That is why we are so worried. Hugh gets an incomplete (check my analysis at theotherside.townhall.com and scroll down to Hugh gets and Incomplete).

religiouslib-

We are not complaining about things McCain did 10 years ago. We are complaining about things he did in 2006 and 2007. How does that measure up to the people who dislike Romney for things he SAID while running for governor?

seansfm-

Many people are telling you to vote McCain. This includes the New York Times. Reasonable people can disagree. But too many liberals are telling you to vote McCain. What does that tell you?

Joe-

Two problems with your Romney opportunism attack.

1. McCain's "honor" isn't much use to us if it is on the wrong side of the issues.

2. McCain's "honor" can't seem to withstand a presidential election. Witness McCain's flips on the Bush tax cut and on immigration enforcement.

aDNA-

Are you being sarcastic? Seriously. I can't tell. I think it is a great idea to require IDs. Were basically relying on people's honor in only voting when they are eligible. My experience in the classroom is that if you don't enforce a rule, they will ignore it. Little rules like only voting once under your own name, or for that matter not registering to vote unless you qualify shouldn't be left to people's honor.

TIME TO SUPPORT MITT
Governor Romney has always been a solid candidate, one of the most capable administrators the GOP field has seen in decades. We should support Mitt, not only because he is the anti-McCain, but because he is an excellent candidate in his own right. After taking a close look at this man's credentials, I'm convinced that we would be making a huge mistake if we pass on him. My vote's for Mitt. I ask that you strongly consider giving him your vote, too.

Echo Loyaltee
Reading these comments, seems like people are really down on the Mittster. Most of them focus on people like Hugh and Rush, and all the "Mittbots." They say that we should go quietly into the night since Mitt is finished.

Well let me tell you something, Mitt Romney is the real deal. Whatever you want to say about his opportunism or flop flopping or anything, he is the one candidate that actually displays any love towards his country and his party that is apparent in ways other than what he says. The Romney path is the path to a better United States and he believes in that path. No other candidate shows a devotion to conservative principles or honesty underlying those principles like he does, and that is why, in my opinion, his supporters are not sitting down, but rather standing taller.

McCain who would be King
The US fought a revolution to win freedom from one King; I'm not about to help elect another to rule over us. McCain is an angry, bitter little man with disdain and contempt for us, the voters. He's a nasty tempered hothead who would be a dictator and tyrant, raining retribution on all who dared oppose him.

Consider immigration- he hasn't changed his view- he said he heard us and "I'll build the g-d fence but it won't do any good." He only wants the power of POTUS. If he gets it, he will ignore us and the laws and will open the borders to terrorists and illegals and destroy our country with a massive influx of uneducated third-world people. And what will you then do about it??? Too late to stop him then.

His ego, arrogance and absolute conceit is far more dangerous than whether or not he is called a conservative. His nature and behavior show us plainly how he would operate if only he had the power.

Vote to DENY him the nomination- we won the immigration debacle last summer and we CAN do it again! Tell your friends and relatives- we can be an army to preserve the country!

Reply to Cincinnatti
OK. I'd certainly vote for McCain over an Obama or a Clinton. I'd probably vote for Huckabee. Not for Ron Paul, though.

McCain is pandering? And that is OK?

As for Romney, you mention abortion and gay rights. On abortion, he may have sincerly felt he was pro-choice when he ran for governor. He says that when the issues crossed his desk, he did his due-diligence and when it came time to make policy, he always came down on the side of life. Is this flipping or growing?

On gay rights, it is difficult to blame Romney for carrying out decisions of the state supreme court. Could he have been courageous and defied their orders? Perhaps. It is also a virtue to do your duy even if you don't agree with it. But Romney has always been pro-marriage and pro-family.

I can live with McCain. I would be happier if I knew (knew-his saying so isn't enough for my conscience) that he would nominate judges in the mold of Scalia. If I knew that he would not pass any Shamnesty, nor listen to any Dr. Juan Hernadnez or any open border advocate.

The "Dark Side" is rhetorical. Reasonable people can disagree. I apologize if it offends.

Hearing about yesterday's debate, I am not sure McCain is reasonable.

I'll Stick With Mike Huckabee
I saw Mitt Romney and John McCain at the CNN debate last night. They looked like two little kids fighting in the back seat of the car while Anderson Cooper was trying to drive.

I'll stick with Mike Huckabee. Thanks.

Time for Mitt to Get Out of Huck's Way
Kaniac is right. Huckabee is the conservative candidate most capable of beating McCain and Hillary. It's time for Gov. Romney to do the decent thing and bow out so Gov. Huckabee has a clear field.

Huck Supporters
Face it!

Huck has proven now after six consecutive states that he can't move beyond the evangelical vote. Iowans were the only ones dumb enough to fall for Huck's rhetoric.

In Florida, even Mitt got more of the evangelical vote than Huck.

Sorry to be the bearer of the harsh reality, but Huck is finished...and even he knows it. He is running for V.P. on the McCain ticket and that's the only reason he hasn't dropped out.

Rally for Romney...
Senator McCain is now the Hillary Clinton of the GOP.

If Republicans vote for John McCain, it is only with the idea they think this could win an election.

Like other unethical Democrat Politicians where the base looks the other way, that is exactly what Republicans will have to do with John McCain.

His unethical LIES were vivid and regretful at the Reagan Library, snearing throughout the disaster.

This is not a winner, and will really make for a very poor leader.

John McCain is regretful.

Hoping the Republican Party says it won't take the trip downward to such an ugly level as the one Senator McCain represents...

Did you see Coulter on Fox?
I thought she was hillarious in her support for Hillary over McCain . . . its too bad that she was both serious and right.

McCain has no honor. It is McCain who is the opportunist. Look at his career . . . he's been scheming to become president for decades, marrying into money so he could move into the senate, stabbing his party and his president in the back . . .

the more i learn about his war record and the POW scandal i'm just shocked that once again the MSM and the establishment put me to sleep re what he is really all about.

McCain, the Singing POW.

Imagine McCain against Obama
in a debate . . . he'll be toast. imagine him even in a debate with Hillary . . . toast again. he doesn't have the temperament, the physical presence, or the intellectual capacity. He's an academy flunkie.

Lay off McCain
Listen, there’s plenty of reason to feel uncomfortable with a John McCain candidacy. I didn’t like his Gang of 14 any more than the next guy. But let’s at least remember the outcome: unlike Clinton or Obama, Sen. McCain voted for John Roberts.

Republicans are going to put Romney, McCain, Huckabee or Paul up against one of two radical, liberal Democrats. I’ll vote for any of these four men. And Republican voters will go to the polls and decide which one has the best of beating Hillary or Barack. All four of them are good and decent individuals, each with strengths and weaknesses that keep us from finding the “perfect conservative.” But a Ronald Reagan comes along about once in a few lifetimes.

I won’t be bashing any of the Republican candidates because when it comes right down to it, how can I justify beating any of them up now, only to be expected to support them in November?

There’s nothing wrong with a fair and honest decision-making process. But let’s put away the sledgehammers, ok?
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/column.aspx?UrlTitle=rep ublicans_need_to_keep_their_eyes_on_the_ball&ns=MikeGallagh er&dt=02/01/2008&page=2

Hey Hawk
How many Super Tuesday states is Romney leading in? What? None? That's right!

Kaniac said it best - Romney is getting in Huckabee's way, not vice versa. Quit now, Mitt, and save the party.

McCain Teeters Like an Old Man
I love Hugh Hewett's article - he's always has common sense, even though we are losing our sensability as a nation. I watched a video today of John McCain walking with Rudy Guiliani and Arnold Swartznegger. He teetered like a very old man - it was amazing. Rudy and Arnold had to slow down so McCain could catch up. I have researched Mr. McCain for a year now and I am embarrassed by him. I could go on and on about his unconservative stands on issues but you know all about those. He is riddled with scandal and the Dems will bring that up later. His wife was caught stealing drugs from her own charity. The McCain's have not fared well when it comes to past choices in their lives, not to mention dealing with pressure. How in the world can he possibly debate with the brilliance and articulate speech of either Barak or Hillary? He is not a very bright man. Sometimes passion is mistaken for intelligence. He was at the bottom of his class at Annapolis and when he speaks I cringe - he sounds like Popeye!! We were told by the polls years ago that Bob Dole was the man to beat Clinton - what a joke that turned out to be. I am afraid we are in for more of the same this year. We aren't learning from past mistakes.

Hawk's prophecy
I. Scenario A

1. Conservatives come to their senses and overwhelmingly vote for Romney on Super Tuesday;
2. Romney gains the momentum and ultimately wins the nod.
3. The Romney philosophy of tax cuts, smaller government, stronger military, border security and elimination of illegal immigration, pro-life & pro-family values, lower heath care costs (the result of universal private health insurance), innovation of American industries and a prosperous economy catches on.
4. Romney wins in a landslide in November.

II. Scenario B

1. Huckabee splits the conservative vote, giving the GOP nomination to McCain (the most liberal GOP candidate in years) who turns sharp left.
2. Between now and November, conservatives realize what a mistake they've made in McCain, but its too late.
3. True conservatives continue fighting even more vigorously against McCain as they realize a democrat in the whitehouse will allow the GOP to regroup at the same time realizing that a McCain whitehouse will only dismantle the GOP even further.
4. Conservatives either stay home in November, or vote Democrat (for the good of the GOP) for reasoning outlined in #3 above.
5. Dem's win the whitehouse in a landslide and give us four years of Hell before the GOP gets another chance to redeem itself.

Note how Huckabee has the ability to prevent Scenario II completely if he just drops out now. If the Dem's get the whitehouse because McCain gets the nod - I will lay most of the blame on Huck.

Vote for right, vote McCain
More to the point, although we cannot know exactly how things will play out, it's very easy to imagine a scenario where a McCain presidency would be very good for the country and for conservatism.

Don't think it sounds possible? Well, imagine this: John McCain selects Fred Thompson as his Vice-President and defeats Hillary Clinton in November. Although he has many negatives, McCain is a fiscal conservative and it's easy to see him balancing the budget, which would burnish the fiscal credentials of the Republican Party.

McCain would also hang in there in Iraq and insure that country is stable before we leave, which would help the American public regain confidence in the GOP on foreign policy again.

Next up is judges. John Paul Stevens is 87 years old. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is 74 and has had cancer. Does either of those two liberals make it through the next four years without retiring? That's no small issue, because the court is currently split with 4 conservatives, 4 liberals and a moderate. That means a number of important cases, including Roe v. Wade, will probably be decided once and for all by the Supreme Court appointments of the next President of the United States. May God forgive us if we condemn a million plus children a year to death by abortion because we're angry at John McCain

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/JohnHawkins/2008/02/01/w hy_youre_going_to_vote_for_john_mccain_in_november_and_like _it!

Can you really vote for someone endorsed
by
The New York Times?
and
Susan Estrich?

CNN is transparently supporting Romney
- More air time in debates
- Listed first in Florida returns
- Seated next to the moderators at last debate
- Asked the first question in last debate(again)

Obviously they are setting up the Republicans for November.

Are you really that thick?

Conservatives tell me: Vote McCain
Why should I care what the New York Times thinks? I don't read the NYT. I watch enough O'Reilley to HATE the NYT!

But I read their "endorsement", and it was hardly a pro-McCain piece. There is no reason to believe anyone at that rag will be voting for McCain.

More importantly, many solid conservatives ARE going for McCain. Now that, I do care about. And by "prominent conservative", I obviously do not include Sean Hannity, who is a simple, cookie-cutter radio host.

Hey Tadpole
I realize Huckabee supporters are a little slow, so let me spell this out as clear as possible:

Huck is barely leading in Georgia. Tally up one 2/5 state for Huck if he holds onto that lead.

In 19 other 2/5 states Romney's lead over Huck ranges from 5% to 15%. In delegate-rich states like California - Romney's support more than doubles Huck's. Romney is expected to take three winner-take-all states as is McCain. Huck has no way of gaining any momentum between FL and 2/5.

Again, I hate to be the message bearer of harsh reality to the Huck supporters, but if you think Mitt is in Huck's way, you simply need to educate yourself a little more on how the election process works.

III. Scenario C
1. McCain wins the majority of states on Super Tuesday, but Huckabee wins some and Romney wins none.
2. Romney realizes that he doesn't have the charisma to get past McCain and drops out after Super Tuesday.
3. Romney endorses Huckabee
4. Huckabee wins the nomination due to the stark contrast between Huckabee and McCain
5. Huckabee shreds Hillary in the one-on-one debates
6. Huckabee becomes POTUS

At the California debate in an interview with Politico.com, McCain said that the approach to the war in Iraq by all of the Republican candidates is essentially the same.

So... why should we vote for McCain???

Mitt could make the process more straight forward if he would just drop out now.

A vote for Romney
"A vote for Huckabee or Paul is a vote for McCain." Is that the new Clear Channel/Bain Capital party line now? Huckabee is the only conservative left in this race, and even Mc Cain is more conservative than Romney. Check out the video links I posted earlier. Hear Romney tell us, in his own words, how he was and independent and not a part of Reagan/Bush, how the R after his name in the ballot stands for "Reformer" and not Republican and how bad Republicans are. See him waffle, in living color, on gun ownership, abortion, gay rights, even on his views on Ted Kennedy. Then be sure to read the sad shape he left the Republican party in after he left office, with "the Republicans yielding the governor's office for the first time in 16 years", party membership down by "31,000 since Romney took office, and their legislative presence...at historic lows." The only wasted vote come Tuesday will be the one for Mitt Romney.

Where did they go?
I see the links I mentioned seem to have fallen off. No worries, I have them right here:

One wonders if all of that money
that Ron paul got on the internet all of a sudden was just like the other internet explosion in 2000. Then it was Soros pouring it into Howard Dean. Is in Soros pouring it into RP to keep him in there siphoning votes so Mclame will win?

Gee, thanks Hawk
It's all so clear now. No, wait a minute - I found a link to RealClearPolitics.com

Alabama - Huck-26.3%, Mitt-12.7%
Arizona - Mitt-21%, Huck-8%
California - Mitt-24.2%, Huck-11.2%
Colorado - Mitt-43%, Huck-17%
Connecticut - Mitt-26%, Huck-8%
Georgia - Huck-30%, Mitt-18%
Illinois - Mitt-26%, Huck-16%
Mass. - Mitt-57%, Huck-3%
Minnesota - Huck-22%, Mitt-17%
Missouri - Huck-27%, Mitt-18%
New Jersey - Mitt-17.3%, Huck-9%
New York - Mitt-13.7%, Huck-9.8%
Oklahoma - Huck-28%, Mitt-19%
Tennessee - Huck-25%, Mitt-18%

Huck leads in 6 states over Mitt
Mitt leads in 8 states over Huck

Hey Hawk (Cont'd)
Not sure where you got the 19 states where Mitt leads Huck by 5-15%. Of the 14 polls I found Mitt is ahead of Huck in 8, but 3 of those are winner take all where McCain has a sizable lead.

In the 6 states where Huck leads Mitt, one is winner take all and Huck leads.

Of the five 5Feb winner-take-all states McCain leads four and Huck leads one and Romney leads none.

The only delegate rich state where Mitt polls double Huck is California, unless you count Arizona (but that doesn't matter because it is winner take all and McCain leads by 20 points).

I could find polls for 14 states (the rest were very stale);
- McCain leads 10, Huck w/in margin for 1 (Alabama)
- Huck leads 2, McCain w/in margin for 1 (Missouri)
- Mitt leads 2 (Mass. & Colorado)

> In the 10 states where McCain is leading there are only five where the combined numbers of Mitt & Huck are greater
> Of the states that McCain leads, the closest Romney gets is 8 points (CA)

Thanks for helping me understand - it is clearer now more than ever that Romney should drop out and leave his estate intact for his kids.

Huckabee may win big super tuesday
He may well come away with the nomination. And that would be God's gift to our nation.

Because we would have for the first time a true conservative Christian who believes in the pro life pro family agenda, and unlike the rest of the pusillanimous, amoral lot who think they can take Christians for granted, Mike Huckabee is unashamed to say publically that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Vote for Huck on super-tuesday tueday if you dont want John McCain:

Mitt the flip flopping, weeping, civil rights activist who marched in his dreams with MLK has no chance.

And he would be ripped apart in the general due to his flip flops on so many issues, and his outlandish tale about pulling over on the side of the road to weep-when he learned his church decided to finally admit negros.

If you believe that, you will believe anything. But black voters wont; and any repub needs ten percent of black votes to win: romney couldnt get more than 2%.

I will bet that the
Huckster will win ZERO states on Super Tuesday.

Hey Vic
I already have a steak dinner coming from BaseballDoc...

To Hugh From A Huck: Wake Up!
There is a certain arrogance that suggests that people who prefer Huckabee over Romney should step aside, as if Romney deserves our vote. He must earn it and he has not. He (and you) have mostly insulted us, accusing us of motives (anti-Mormonism) that few of us have. We Iowa voters, who got to know the candidates well, made an informed decision.

I personally got three pieces of mail with Huck's name in large print. Hint: they come from Romney and were filled with distortions. We Hucksters, as you call us, have no reason to support a candidate who would lie to us.

Romney, as late as this week, told Roland Martin of CNN that he (Romney) still supports "gay rights" (and he doesn't mean equal rights - they already have those!)

Romney's alleged conversion to pro-life came several months before he is caught on tape vowing to continue to support pro-choice legislation.

We believe that so called "assault weapons" are covered in the 2nd Amendment. We think fees are taxes. We don't think hunting once as a kid makes you a life-long hunter. We think the candidate should see the ads before he puts his name on them (Remember Romney claiming he never saw the ad with McCain's name on it?). We think 10-20 year Meth Dealer sentences are better than Mitt's 4 to 10-year sentences.

"A vote for Huck is a vote for Romney" is equivalent to saying "a cheeseburger is a sledge hammer".

You wrongly assume that Mitt will get our vote. It ain't necessarily so.

Joe
You wrote: " In Mass. he brought audiences to tears with the story of a “close family member” who died from a back alley abortion, and how the experience had convinced him that abortion should be a matter of deeply personal choice, and not any business of the government’s. “You will not see me waver on that,” he declared."

You left out the last part of the story. Mitt says that was his position yet when a bill came to his desk he had a change of heart and he could not sign it. He says he has been pro-life since.

All of us have changed over time. We grow because of our increasing life experiences and our perceptions, attitudes, and positions evolve. Things I was once in favor of I am now against. This whole flip-flopper thing is overdone.

It boils down to who is better equipped to run the nation and whose positions on the issues are your own. We need a manager, someone with executive experience in the private and public sectors to run things. McCain is to be respected for his service. Being a leader of a squadron of any size is an impressive accomplishment; yet the responsibilities pale in comparison and the position does not prepare one to be POTUS..

On top of that McCain has been present for all of the things he claims need to be fixed in DC now. Senators just talk and debate then they, with no sense of how life is for the little people they claim to represent, write law after law that will never affect them personally but will adversely affect the lives of the people who have to live with them and chip away at their freedoms. McCain has no idea what would hit him in the WH. There’s a whole lot more to do then play with the boats and planes.

Mitt should just make Mike his VP since he can’t win and stop splitting the vote. Mac would be done as most of Huck’s would go to Mitt. 35% is the best Juan has done and this would be the knockout punch if Huck would take it. In any event we cannot let McCain win.

What is said is often not what one hears
Example: In the last Republican Debate, I never heard McCain answer a question directly. What I heard was the same answer to each question. That answer seemed to be that he is a war hero and that is why he should be President and that he stands on his record.
I believe that any and all veterans are due our deepest respect and thanks,no matter how they served and their experiences. They all were in harm's way for our Country. But, how long can he use this reason for why he should be President or in office? He is not another Ike. In addition, his record is not so good is it?
So,I go back to why others do not hear what I am hearing.
One last point. He bragged as to his knowledge of securing the borders because of being from AZ. Is he out of his mind? AZ is the worst State to use for an example. It is a good example of how not to secure our borders.

Another shill heard from
Hawk and Hugh two peas in a pod.

Mitt doesn't get my vote and is going to the convention with fewer votes than Mike.

So Ann is voting for Hillary, what a ringing endorsement and it shows she is just in this for money anyway.

McCain Derangement Syndrome
I heard two examples of it this evening - one from my friend Hugh Hewitt, whose rage against McCain today on Wolf Blitzer's CNN show made the hair curl on my bald head and later, on the Larry Elder Show, I listened in as a woman caller excoriated McCain as no war hero even though she knew the Senator had spent five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp, was tortured, had his bones broken yet stayed with the other troops when offered a chance to leave, etc. Even Elder was appalled at the woman, though Larry is no McCain supporter.

While Republicans argue...
..last night we watched the DEMOCRAT TICKET have a love fest for all the world to see.
It's obvious that they kissed and made up and Uncle Teddy will reward them with a prize in November.
I am asking all Republicans to unite behind the party line....McCain was never my choice...but I will vote for him if he becomes the nominee.
Otherwise, Bill Clinton will be doing his dirty tricks once again....and Hillary will be selling secrets to the highest bidder and Barak will be assigned to a corner office way down the hall.

The House of Clinton/The House of Bush
It sounds like the Romney support is going to be marginalized by the Huck supporters. Welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Clinton.

Fiscal and strong America Republicans will never stomach Huckabee,

Bible belt, Mormon fearing Republicans will never stomach Romney.

Jeb Bush will ride in on his white horse in 2011, uniting the Reagan coalition.

The era of Bush-Clinton dominance of America continues.

Our children and grandchildren will never know what it is like to be proud of their President.

continued...
They will never believe that they too can be President someday...

The Reality about Romney . . .
is that he is simply not likable and doesn't connect with the everday person. Exit polling in Florida showed that the second choice of Huckabee voter's was McCain, not Romney. At least in Florida, it seems had Huckabee not been in the race that McCain would have won by an even greater margin. In the more conservative states to vote on Super Tuesday, Huckabee is out polling Romney. Who is it then who is actually dividing the conservative vote? Answer: Romney with the help of the "fiscal first" republicans.

Huckabee is toast
Unless people realize that the MSM doesn't care who gets nominated - between McCain and Huckabee - those 2 equally will devastate the Republican party's chances for decades.

Romney at least talks the talk of Reagan. The other 2 sound and act like Hillary (McCain) and Carter (Huckabee).

God help us.

Mitt has no "stones!"
You Romneyites azaze me....here is a man that actually governed as a liberal - disavowed Reagan when he was a Gov & you know love him! Why? Cause Willard (Mitt) changed....BS! He is an opportunist - He is John Kerry lite - a flip-flopper w/no stones - the dems will have a blast with him!.
In addition Mitt has NO STONES! He had the chance to take on McCain several times a few nites ago and didn't...he seems not to fight for himself but you lapdogs will! If he won't fight for himself in a primary what makes you think he will take on the Libs? The Media? A dem controlled congress? Let alone al Qaeda, Putin, China et al...simply put Mitt has no stones!
We just had 8 years of the pinatta presidencey where asside from Iraq GW didn't have the stones or smarts to fight for himself out the party - I say no thanks to another one of those...but ai wouldn't worry...besides you sheep, Mitt has 0 chance in a National Election!
McCain has an 83% record w/American Conserv and you pooh pooh him...but a liberal claims he has seen the light and you all fall "hook line & sinker!" Go ahead...join Anne Coulter and stay home or vote for Hillary - the country & party will be better off without you

Romney Death to Republicans & Talk Radio
Please, please listen, Hugh and other talk radio hosts. You laughed endlessly at John Kerry and made fun of him. Laura played "Flipper" as the theme song. IT was fun for all of us. Now, you are endorsing a guy who is a worse John Kerry than John Kerry. IT is embarrassing to Republicans, and it destroys the credibility of talk radio. Mitth Romney is the one Republican who absolutely, positively lose in the general. He claims to be a lifelong "rodent hunter!" For goodness sakes, you have picked a terrible candidate. I am sure he's a great guy and good family man, but he is an awful candidate. He is embarrassing and will not win. Decide between McCain and Huckabee while there is a still a chance for Republicans to win, please.

The Final Battle
If McCain wins the Republican nomination he's in for a pummeling from the Clinton machine that will make his Vietnam imprisonment seem like a kindergarten fracus. They will demand his medical records and have a fellow toady publicize his "confessions" for his "crimes" to the Vietnam people.

John McCain's whole career, including his imprisonment, is one of compromise. And yet, out of stubborness he won't compromise with conservative Republicans. I believe his flight for the presidency will crash and burn, ending his quixotic career.

My New Jersey ballot includes the data for all the candidates in both English--and Spanish. Sorry, McCain, I thought I lived in America--one flag, one nationality, American, and one language, English.

The American people had the good sense to reject one Vietnam "hero" who came back from Vietnam, married a heiress and launched a dubious political career. Let's do it again and put that terrible episode behind us for good.

Jerseyvet
One of McVain's USNA classmates said of McShamnesty's boxing career: "he did not have a lot of talent but he had no reverse gear!"

McShamnesty is stubborn, stupid, and disloyal. NOT executive material in the least.

Hey ghost
What part of Huckabee's platform or experience do fiscal conservatives object to?

Is it that he inherited a $200M+ deficit, raised taxes by $500M over 10 years, improved roads & education, and left with a surplus of $850M? That's a 100% return on your money over 10 years, my friend.

Is it working with a Democrat state legislature every which way he could to meet the state law of a balanced budget? This included tax cuts and tax hikes - and he balanced the budget every year he was Governor.

Is it that he cut taxes 94 times?

Is it that when a 1% tax increase was no longer necessary he repealed it?

Is it his commitment to improve infrastructure that is crumbling all across America?

Is it his commitment to not raise taxes as president?

Is it that while the rest of the states in the country experienced an average tax burden increase of 95%, Arkansas residents enjoyed a 47% increase?

Is it that he appointed the Murphy Commission to make recommendations to consolidate or eliminate state agencies?

Help me out here. Too many people accept Rush and Hannity's 'Romney talking points' that Huckabee is a tax and spender. Guess what? Every government taxes and every government spends.

No doubt that Romney did a good job in Mass., but fiscally Huckabee stacks up against Mitt very well.

WAKE UP AMERICA!

Hey ghost (cont'd)
What part of Huckabee's record or platform will 'strong America' Republicans have trouble with?

Is it that Gov Huckabee has always been pro 2nd amendment?

Is it that Gov Huckabee plans to increase the size of the military?

Is it that Gov Huckabee plans to adopt Reagan's 'Peace Through Strength' philosophy?

Is it that Gov Huckabee receieved the endorsement of the only non-legislator in South Carolina history to be named 'Defender of Freedom' by the NRA, Rick Daniel?

Is it that Gov Huckabee has his own Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP)? And supports a national CWP?

Is it that Gov Huckabee recognizes that The United States of America is a sovereign nation and can control its borders any way it wants?

Is it that Gov Huckabee has a plan to build the border fence in 18 months? With US labor and US materials?

Is it that Gov Huckabee supports fines and license revocation for employers that knowingly employ illegal aliens?

Is it that the media and critics have managed to morph Gov Huckabee's position on eligibility for a state scholarship for the children of illegal aliens into he is an 'Open Borders' guy? BTW, that didn't pass and if it had it would not have taken anything from citizens as the scholarship was available to all that qualified.

I'm really trying to understand - somebody help me.

Hey ghost - I agree
Jeb Bush will run and likely win the 2012 election.

Look for Romney to name Jeb as his VP candidate sometime soon after Super Tuesday. There are a lot of Republicans loyal to GWB, even if the current POTUS does not endorse Romney it will be a family endorsement that will carry a lot of weight.

Let's not forget that Romney announced his candidacy at the GHWB Presidential Library.

Hugh, Lay of the Kool Aid
Hugh, The Zombie will be officially toast on Tuesday and so will you program and what is left of your pathetic career.

When Hugh compares The Zombie to Reagan I have to laugh.

When Romney compares himself or even evokes the name of Ronald Reagan it makes me sick. Did Reagan favor homosexual Boy Scouts like Mitt does? Would Reagan have ever banned the Boy Scouts from the Olympics like Mitt did? Did Reagan establish abortion on demand in his government run healthcare plan like Mitt did calling it a "healthcare benefit"?Would Reagan have opposed the Bush Tax cuts or favored McCain Feingold, or McCain Kennedy like Mitt Zombie did? Would Reagan have shredded the oldest functioning constitution written by John Adams by illegally imposing "same sex marriage" in the Cradle of Liberty like Romney did? Would Ronald Reagan have forced the nation's oldest foster care and adoption agency Catholic Charities to adopt to homosexual couples or go out of business even though he was not legally obligated to as Romney did? Would Reagan have forced Catholic Hospitals to provide abortofascients even though there was no legal obligation to do so as Slick Willard did? Would Reagan have claimed he was a "life long" hunter even though he had only hunted "twice in his life" as Romney did? Would Reagan have said he remembers "seeing" his father march with MLK even though the two never marched together as Romney falsely claimed? Would Reagan tie the family dog to the car on a 12 hour trip from Boston to Ontario Canada like Romney did?

Wouldn't it be nice if there was one reputable "conservative" media person to ask him these questions who wasn't in the tank for him (Rush, Sean, Hewitt, Bennett, et al.)

Romney is Hillary in a Reagan Costume. When will people realize this? When will this charade be up?

Huckabee & Paul True Believers
Huckabee gets 7-8%. Paul gets 4-5% and McCain beats Romney by 4-5%.

Its the Huckabee and Paul true believers that are putting a Liberal in the White House.

If McCain is the choice I'm starting "Conservatives For Hillary & Against McCain".

Thinking of voting for McCain?
Everyone thinking of voting for McCain needs to read about him approaching the Dems about abondoning the Republican party. Also, it was mccain who approached kerry about being his VP. This is not a man who should be representing the Republican party.

READ THIS!

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/democrats-say-mccain-ne arly-abandoned-gop-2007-03-28.html

He's Toast!
McCain is starting to look a little frayed around the edges and things haven't even started heating up yet. His stamina and health are even starting to look doubtful. He can avoid answering any substantial questions only so long, especially for now that the media is treading lightly as far as he's concerned. We need to present a good looking and sounding alternative to the 2 packages the democrats are trying to pass off as agents of "change". With McCain it will look like an old retread trying to masquerade as a vibrant and enthusiastic maverick. All we've seen so far is a cranky, nasty guy with sarcastic comebacks playing free and easy with facts. Against Hillary and Obamination, he'll lose his independents and crossover democrats. And his dislike of conservatives is mutual and he needs them more than they need him. This does not bode well...

Mitt won't fight for himself - why you?
Great points Doccochran & Action!
I loved Mitt's most recent epiphany during the debates when he said one of his biggest regrets was that he had not served in the military - yeah right...and I have a bridge to sell you!

Just listened to Laura Ingram prostituting herself saying she is impressed at Mitts sincere embrace of conservatism - yeah right...and I have a bridge to sell you.

FOlks...the only sell outs...the only ones losing credibility & heart is talk radio! As doccochran said, you made huge fun of John Kerry (and rightfully so) for the same reasons you should be making fun of Willard Mitt Romney...who exactly are the hypocrites?

And again why do they want to defend a man who won't defend themselves? Wasn't that a concern they had over Bush? A man who spent $20M of his own wealth on what? So others do his bidding...I have yet to hear one person explain how Willard will fight the libs? The media? Terrorists?

No I suppose you will do that for him...just like you did for "W" right over the cliff.

Also who indeed is the conservative "knight in shining armor" for the future republicans? No one.

A few other fun tidbits:
* Laura Ingram, Cooulter & the crew dispise Huck and LOVED Duncan...well Duncan endorsed who??? Huck! ;-)
* Nancy Reagan is "privately" endorising McCain (says Drudge)...will you now deride Ronaldus Maximus Wife
* Several legal conservative "icons" (Who Ingram & Couter et al ADORE) have endorsed McCain...Ted Olsen the most recent...will you now deride them.
There are indeed many conservatives like me & my father who will "turn off" Rush, Laura et al...because we believed they had principles...after watching the shameless fawwning over Willard & Mitt...we realize their just as bad as the left!

RA
McCain beat Huckabee by 3 points in SC - perhaps it is Mitt that is putting Hillary in the White House.

WSJ Insn't impressed with Willard Mitt!
If you can view the link below please do so...the Wall Street Journel is not to impressed with Willard Mitt's convictions - or lack there of...so let me get this straight...Mr. Business is not so attractive to the WSJ? Wake up you Kerr....er Mitt apologists!

REVIEW & OUTLOOK

Romney's Convictions
February 1, 2008

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120182471883733637.html?mod =opinion_main_review_and_outlooks

McCain makes me want 2 puke
I'm so sick of McCain wraping himself in the flag, telling us his prior military service 100 years ago whitewashes his liberal votes. It doesn't.

He's a low-life who divorced his wife after she was seriously injured in an accident to marry a much younger, more attractive woman. So much for the character of John McCain, now where Hugh Hewitt wants candidates to drop out...

Objectively Ron Paul's positions on everything are more in line with Barry Goldwater, Robert Taft and our republic's founders than any of the other candidates. Hence, if we're true principled conservatives we'd suggest Mr. Huckabee and Mr. Romney be the ones to drop out and request their supporters vote for Mr. Paul.

Aaaaa, but that's not going to happen... because the so-called conservative talk-radio hosts sin by omission when they repeat over & over there's no principled conservative Republican to vote for so we should settle for Mitt Romney.

Coulter Will Vote For Hillary
See What Mitt Romney does to people. No way I will ever support this man. Vote Mike Huckabee, the real conservative.

Hugh & Hannity's Man Crush On Mitt
Sean Hannity, Hugh Hewitt continue to embarrass themselves every day slobbering over Mitt Romney. Romney was a liberal until he decided to run for President! Wake up!

The ONLY reason these guys (Rush, Hannity, Ingraham, etc) love Mitt is because his company Bain Capital has been in the process of a buy-out of Clear Channel. All of these radio hosts and more are under multi-million dollar contracts with Clear Channel.

Romney supporters have been completely fooled and manipulated by the media. The conservative media is now lying to you that Mike Huckabee's campaign is over. Not a chance. He is in this to win.

All Huckabee supporters go to http://www.mikehuckabee.com and donate today.
If you're not a Huckabee supporter, go to his website and learn the truth about where he stands on the issues---you will change your mind.

eliza
Huck is done. As for your Clear Channel consperacy, I am fairly certain that Michael Medved has a contract with them and he supports McCain rather proudly.

As for Rush, he has been a vocal adversary of McCain since long before Romney ever decided to run for president. Rush's issues with old John go back years. This idea that those who support Mitt do so because of his business interests is a little silly when you look at the facts. McCain has never been super popular with most talk show hosts. They were blasting the guy long before Mitt tossed his hat into the ring.

eliza
you are below low. obviously you are a follower and have never taken it upon yourself to actually examine Mitt Romney's record as Mass Gov, nor the playing field with the TOTALLY LIBERAL state legislature he contended with, and that's simply a reality, but at least they had a GOP Governor. Mass, as all states, has its variances when it comes to the powers of its Governors and the liberals of Mass have had power so long they have pretty much cornered their governor on powers (considering Romney is not the first GOP Gov they have contended with over the years of liberal legislative dominance).
Huckabee is a niche candidate. No one sane has ever believed he could win the GOP "nod", much less the Presidency; his strategy is all about getting the Veep role, and the next "inside" shot at heading the GOP ticket down the road. I commend him for his accumen, but he is allowing McCain to prevail because Huck IS splitting off just enough of the base to allow McCain to win these pluralities and gain delegates, and that's all McCain has won are 33% to now 36% of GOP voters. So here we are with Romney and Huck splitting the votes that should be deciding the more conservative standard bearer and thereby providing as the GOP Presidential candidate someone so repugnant to so much of the base that they will not support him in the general election! Romney has won first or second in most of the GOP trial elections to date; Huck has a first in Iowa and a second (should have been first) in South Carolina; it's just simple, Romney appeals to more of the GOP across the nation than Huckabee, so Romney should become the "firewall" candidate against McVain!
I really wish Huckabee would do something positive for the GOP and drop out to oppose Pryor for his Ark Senate seat; the GOP could really use that seat, and Huckabee could win it!

Therein lies the problem, bob
Campaigning against McCain is distinct from campaigning for Mitt. I understand the former. The latter makes no sense to me. I guess I'm a foreign policy / military con first, so maybe that is why I will never vote for Mitt in the primary (I would of course back him against the Hilldabeast). His stomach churning statements, like his "great regret" about not "having the chance to serve," or his sons' service to the country in helping him get elected, make him soeone who I would never enthusiastically rally around. The problem isn't that McCain is too liberal or a "maverick" (he is); it is that there is no credible conservative alternative - neither Huck nor Romney can be that guy, and Fred and Rudy are out.

The swamp-- er, "talent pool" is awfully
shallow! The Huckster can't get past the Kenneth Copeland crowd. McPain is half-dead, and more than half-baked. Willard is all things to all people.

It's time we scrapped the Constitution, and tried the parliamentary system. Imagine a home-grown Tony Blair running the country, instead of the Chimp and Shrillary (or is that Billary?).

I'm convinced that the American people are just too stupid to pick a leader.

Something to contrast.
Neither is perfect, but consider this;

Romneys policy flaws happened a decade ago, and McCain's policy issues have all been in the past few years...and continuing to this day. (what will he think of next to stab us in the back?!)

Second, Romney saw the error of his ways regarding those flaws, and made the correction. McCain just doesn't recognize that ANY of his positions are wrong. He changed his border policy just enough to get fools to buy into it, and nominate him so he can ram it down our throat. Don't be fooled. How can you do a 180 in 6 months? Earlier this week he said he'd sign McCain/Kennedy into law if he was president.

What does that tell you? Don't be a sucker...a vote for McCain is, well, a vote for McCAIN!!!

CasualConservative.com

Anyone see McCain on Letterman
He and Giuliani were stroking each other so much I thought I would gag. And McCain making such a big deal about Guiliani running an "honorable campaign".

Honorable Campaign - ha! That's code for "sticking with the good old boys practice of hiding a liberal voting record and not attacking the opponent because the opponent is so much cleaner".

Somehow it's honorable to not be competitive and point out the facts? No, honorable is giving the public the facts they need to make an informed decision. It's public debate, and giving your opponent a fair chance to explain their previous actions. McCain and Giuliani have avoided all these things. Honorable is telling the truth like admitting Romney has been a foremost leader on the war on terror while McCain has been giving terrorists an open gate to flood into our country through his state.

McCain is Hillary in pants.

Thank you Hugh
For keeping the Romney flame burning bright. Romney's is a campaign for the Reagan agenda and McCain (so to be over) campaign is for the failed Republicanism of Rockefeller and Ford.

If enough people foolishly hand the nomination to McCain the little angry man will be skewered and destroyed by either the calm and calculating (not to mention more intelligent by a mile) Hillary or the charismatic and youthful B Hussein.

The MSM will dump their media darling McCain now that he has served their purposes. Maybe the angry little man will get Bob Dole's Viagra gig after he humiliates himself with a 49-state defeat.

huckabee not conservative
Huckabee is a social conservative but liberal on everything else. He tried to get licenses for illegals in Arkansas and" in state" tuition. He let the Mexican consulate rent a building for next to nothing and promoted other services for illegals. He raised taxes and did increase jobs.......jobs that paid minimum wage and many went to illegals. Huckabee also has run bigoted anti-Mormon robo calls. My question for those who think he is so virtuous and so conservative is this? Why would he consider backing McCain, who is not truly socially conservative, or conservative at all, and why would he stoop to such dirty tricks to defeat Romney? I believe it is because romney is a Momon. Being Catholic, I know the bigotry of many of the evangelicals.

Rally to Romney
Hugh,

I used to listen to you every day on my way home from work, and at home.
The one time I disagreed with you was when you urged every republican to vote for Arnold over Tom McClintock.
Arnold was less of a conservative than McCain, but you said he would be better than Davis.
Why doesn't this stand true for McCain, wouldn't he be much better than a Clinton or an Obama???
Before you bring up that this is still the primary, let me tell you that I rank Romney right up there with another great flip-flopper, John Kerry.
When you carefully track Romney, you have to come to the conclusion that his transformations happen to come at election times.
First to be super pro abortion when running against Kennedy says something for the integrity of a Mormon. To still have this view to get elected Governor, and then change when you decide to run for President is too much of a coincidence for me.
I would be willing to bet you that if he decided to run for a second term as governor, the transfromation would be delayed by 4 years.
Another reason why I am supporting McCain (who happens to be my second choice), is our son is in the army and about to be deployed, and he says everyone he talks to at Fort Campbell is behind McCain.

Please give the next likely Republican nominee a break and stop driving people to stay away from the general election.

sincerely,
Brian Carter

WSJ is a liberal rag.
Occasionally they have conservative leaning articles, which conservatives parade when it happens, but for the most part their readership is the same as the NY Times and the content is generally aimed at such.

The article that disparages Mitt, does so because they say he relies too much on data, and not enough on the system and popular opinion. In otherwords, he doesn't play the game.

And of course the WSJ wouldn't like someone who pays more attention to data than the game. You want continued good-old boys politics? You want more Bush-style cronyisms. You want more clandestine backroom national governance? You want what made Bush a bad president, but with a liberal edge? Vote for the guy who's played the game forever, whom the WSJ likes: his name is McCain.

>First to be super pro abortion when running against Kennedy says something for the integrity of a Mormon

Yeah, like I'm sure all Mormons do that. I heard some rapist was Catholic - does that make all Catholics rapists?

Dude, your true motives are so obvious. Give up trying to pretend you're being objective about this. It's obvious you had your mind made up when you heard Romney was Mormon.

Riddle me this
I have asked before and I'll ask again - although I have little hope of getting an answer from the Romney people: How can Romney claim the conservative mantle?

His rhetoric sounds great to a movement conservative like myself, until you hold it up to his actual record on gun control, immigration, gay right, government health care and raised taxes by $700M. To top it all off he repudiated Reagan stating he didn't want to return to Reagan-Bush - that one is pretty unforgiveable to me.

So WHY is he considered the great savior of the Right? I just don't see it. I see a field of imperfect choices with NO true conservatives and therefore I'll pick the one who's actual RECORD is the most conservative, who is a Christian and the only one who can win in November.

Who's the real RINO
It's something everyone ignores, but it's how you tell who is the true RINO. Both Romney and McCain have had liberal positions. But one is a true RINO and the other one merely fulfilling campaign promises:

1) Romney is repentant of his previous liberal political leanings, and has denounced them all. McCain is not repentant. He will not admit he was wrong for his liberal voting or bills, and in fact tries to justify them. Who's the real RINO?

2) McCain has a largely conservative constituency in Arizona. That means he did NOT follow his constituency then (nor would he do the same as Pres). Having no serious liberal constituency his liberal agenda therefore came from nowhere but his own heart and mind. Romney on the otherhand represented his liberal constituency to the best of his ability in the most liberal state in the Union.

McCain is a True RINO. His unrepentant attitude and his conservative AZ constituency prove it: he's a liberal in conservative clothing. Always has been. ALWAYS WILL BE.

PRE
...maybe you haven't got the answer to why he has such a record because he doesn't have that record. You've distorted the facts significantly.

There are plenty of posts elsewhere that I've seen that repudiate your false claims. If you were sincerely interested a simple search would set you straight, but that's not your real intent is it?

Kind of like saying "how can Bush claim to be a Christian when he's murdered 1000's of people?". The question doesn't deserve a response, and this response alone dignifies your claims too much as it is. Your question is at best illegitimate.

Christians
"who is a Christian..."

Why should that matter..that is as stupid as voting for someone because they are white or a woman or black. Jimmy Carter and George Bush were Christians too...where did they leave you?

There is no hope
This party is being strangled from within by a bunch of twits who can't stop talking about R-word. Not Romney, President Howdy Doody who gave 20 million Mexicans overnite amnesty, ran like a rabbit from Beirut and paid a bribe to terrorists to get the hostages back. It's all a fantasy, no one under 35 remembers the man, and these 50 somethings are killing the party. When R-word was elected it wasn't by moaning about how great Eisenhower was. BTW, he was twice the man R-word was and 3 times the president. http://www.moronpolitics.com

btc827
You and PRE ought to get together. You love to distort the facts with your jargon. Romney was never "super pro abortion". He said that as governor he would not attempt to take away a woman's right. Maybe you think that means he secretly desires to kill babies, but if so that says far more about your weak mind than Mitt's intentions.

Pro-choice is afterall, in case you didn't know, a legislatively hopeless issue. A few years ago we had a republican house, senate and executive branch and nothing came close to overturning Roe vs. Wade. You actually think it has an ice-cubes chance in todays hotly liberal environment? Smart conservatives understand this dynamic and spent their efforts fighting for legislatively possible outcomes.

That isn't to say abortion isn't important, but it is legislatively hopeless for the time being. The onus is on us to work at a grassroots level until it becomes legislatively possible. In the meantime why don't you use your brain when you attach labels to politicians so that they actually fit.

Akagi
Good point.

Though it is important whether they value faith and family values. I'd vote for a Muslim if 1) he was the best candidate and 2) he respected my faith and the faith of other religions as highly as he respected his own. It's become evident to me when Brian Williams questioned Mitt's faith in a debate and none of the other candidates supported Mitt that nobody felt respecting other religions than their own was important. Very disturbing really.

David Austin
David,
Why do I have to be anti-Morman??
I would say the same for a Catholic, Christian, or Muslim!!!
Integrity is integrity no matter what your faith.
You should follow the precepts.

BTC827
>I would say the same for a Catholic, Christian, or Muslim!!!

No you wouldn't! Would you say all catholics are lack integrity because a catholic person you knew struggled with an issue that was at odds with their religion? NO, but that's exactly what you said about Mormons. Let me quote you unless you forgot what you posted:

"First to be super pro abortion when running against Kennedy says something for the integrity of a Mormon"

Not to mention that you lack integrity for saying Romney was "super pro abortion". I'm sure that even McCain or even Huckabee wouldn't say that about Romney. They obviously have more integrity than you.

And the Romney supporters answer is....
No answer at all. Romney people refuse to defend his record except to say that he's changed his mind. I trust his record a lot more than his words.

I am a conservative without a candidate because there is NO CONSERVATIVE RUNNING. That being said, I am proud to support an American hero who knows the meaning of sacrifice for his country. I may not always agree with McCain, but I know where he stands and I can respect that. The same cannot possibly be said for the governor of Massachusettes.

On the touchstone issues (for me) of taxes, spending, abortion, defense and faith I trust McCain more than any other candidate in the race. I find him the most consistent conservative with a 20 year record of fighting for the cause and for country.

Those who rally behind Mitt
continue to amaze me since they are "ok" with the following:

1. Mitt's selection of judges in Massachusetts.
(former liberal activists from the gay/lesbian bar association) That's "ok" with Mitt.
2. Mitt's placement of a Planned Parent member on his health plan's board.
3. Mandatory health care in the first place.
Note to Mitt, when YOU make it mandatory, the courts will make abortion and anti abortion medication etc. part of the plan, and now that's mandatory too.
4. Fees raised are passed along to the consumers the same as taxes raised.
5. Massachusetts ranking third from the bottom in job creation under Mitt.

This list can continue on, but you who support Mitt are willing to put forth your man as "conservative" overlook glaring short-comings, and expect others to fall in line.
PLEASE STOP. You've only convinced yourself.

Statements Mitt has made at critical junctures in time show either calculation at best or his core beliefs.

A few examples: "I'm not going to be a cheerleader for tax cuts I disagree with" Boston Globe 4/11/2003 regarding the Bush tax cuts.

In Mitt's 1994 senate bid against Teddy Kennedy, Romney said he was not part of that Reagan/Bush thing.

Now of course Mitt has changed his tune and I have changed my support for him. The only way I'll ever vote for Mitt is if he gets the nomination. And that could happen, even without my vote.

David Austin
David,

The reason I referred to Gov. Romney as super pro abortion is that he ran for the Senate and for Governor as a pro abortion candidate.
This was before he had to deal with any legislation on the subject.
That to me is super pro abortion.

I take that back
I said btc827 had less integrity than McCain because McCain would never stoop to mislabling Mitt as being "Super Pro Abortion" at one point. In retrospect I do recall McCain this last week saying Romney did not support the war in Iraq. That was a bold faced lie. btc8327, McCain, and Huckabeee are on the same footing as is anyone who frequently distorts the facts and leverages common misconceptions and prejudices into their favor.

PRE - you're confused
How can you support McCain when you say your touchstone issues are taxes, spending, abortion and defense? Admittedly he's strongest on defense (though Romney is a close second), but

ABORTION:
When asked if his daughter wanted an abortion whether the state should allow it he said she should get an abortion. Mitt may have kept his campaign promise as governor to not prevent women from getting an abortion, but I can't imagine him ever telling the government to step down so his daughter could get one. Mitt's stance was external, and he's repented, but McCain's stance was internal, and he's unrepentant - I'm sure he'd answer the question the same way.

TAXES: Have you looked at his voting record? He's against all of Bush's tax cuts and has said he will NOT make them permanent. Only Mitt has said he'll make them permanent.

SPENDING: Again, have you not looked at the bills he's proposed, or that he want to increase energy costs by at least 20% and gas by $0.50/gal to punish the US while proposing nothing on a global level?

If those are your true "touchstones" I suggest you re-evaluate your choice.

Whoppers
How exactly have the past two Republican presidents been much different from the 70s presidents we had, Hugh? All four (Nixon, Ford, and the Bushes) governed as country-club Republicans who use power to further their own agenda (welfare, wage freezes, immigration, prescription drugs...the list goes on and on).

And how about Romney? He's exactly the same, judging from how he governed in Mass.

You left the Reagan legacy caucus the minute you supported Mitt.

Get off of that subject

This column is supposed to be about the election for the President of the United States, a job that is concerned with a million questions and problems. But you Johnny one-notes keep screaming about something that is none of your business. Already the word abortion has appear over 25 times.

Get off of it, you men will never get pregnant, and if anyone else is pregnant, it is none of your business, unless you caused it.

And for the women, they have no business screaming about abortion unless they are the one who is pregnant, and they want an abortion. Other wise it is none of your business.

I'm outta here
distort all you want in my absence.

ONly thing worse
And the only thing worse than listening to Hilary yammer on in her shrill voice, is Romney's whisper-speak. I can't listen to the guy.

Time for Romney to get off the island
Romney has tried to buy votes not only with money made by massive layoffs - but by changing positions on important issues (abortion, gay marriage, etc.) depending on the audience.

He is out of touch with real families because he's never had to live in the REAL world. Life is not a Fraternity party.

Vote for the REAL DEAL. Vote Huckabee.

Hawk it sucks to be
the third choice of ARRA group.
Regarding your post at 1:03pm.

Fred and Duncan were chosen earlier for this endorsement.Which means at that time Romney was their third choice at best.
Their statement says only two candidates remain viable according to their delegate count.
But, if you look at their count of delegates well they got that wrong too.

Oops .. one more
I know I said I was outta here but I just read this and had to post it (does that mean I lack integrity btc827):

"Unlike other candidates who only speak to the importance of confronting the major social issues of the day, Governor Romney has a record of action defending life …. Every decision he made as Governor was on the side of life. I know he will be the strong pro-life President we need in the White House." - John Wilke, a physician, and president of both the Life Issues Institute, and International Right to Life Federation

"He vetoed the bill on embryonic stem cell research and some other efforts to liberalize the Massachusetts abortion law.” - Jim Bopp, legal counsel for numerous pro-life organizations that recently endorsed Romney.

anybody but mccain/clinton
now i am not suggesting that mccain and clinton will be on the same ticket, but given his aisle reaching, i would not be surprised.

i am serious. i, and many others, will not support mccain under any circumstances. given the choices between mccain, clinton or obama; i'll vote obama.

if it's mccain - GO OBAMA!

cyndysalzmann
care to substantiate your comments? He made his money from massive layoffs? Good one for the misinformation campaign of 2008.

I for one want someone standing for the audience (as you suggest) - that's what a democratic republic is all about.

I can't believe you'd suggest that his family is a weakness. I suppose you want your kids growing up to torture cats instead of spawning happy producting families themselves?

Incidentally, he made almost all his money, he did not inherit it, and he did not somehow extract it by laying off people. Get your facts straight.

Okay, now I'm really out of here
I promise. Distort away Hucksters and McCainsters. We all know you will...

Cut a deal
Maybe it's time for Romney to cut a deal with Huckabee: "drop out now and I give you the VP spot".

Paul is never going to drop out -- he's in this not to win but for principle. I can admire that, but there's no point in talking to him about dropping out.

David Austin
David,
I owe you and all other Mormons an apology for the way my original comment was worded.
What I meant to say and should have said was "says something for his integrity as a Morman".
By the way I phrased it, I can see why you were upset.
Once again, I apologise.

Whenever I hear someone talking
about "massive layoffs", I know they're not a Republican. Nice try, Democrat.

Not many Willard Mitt fans are there?
Wow...this was great...there does appear to be sanity and most posts are not falling for Hugh's fawning over Mittless (Lurch Jr...in fact Mitt looks a bit like Herman Munster - must be in the Mass water)!
I thought it was about even until I saw that David Austin provided a majority of Mitt's lovefest...is that really you Tagg Romnney - anyone one with names like Mitt, Willard and Tagg have no clue about heartland American like six-pack Joes...who is the establishment/Blue Blood Republican? Willard Mitt or McCain...I'd say McCain!
Signed, Tagg, Dagg, Willard Mitt, Biff, Skip and of course Muffy! ;-)

Neither man is perfect...
But just remember who stabbed you in the back most recently.

And repeatedly.

And will continue to stab you in the back.

Because he doesn't see it as stabbing us in the back, he sees it as "cooperating" even when there's nobody forcing you to do so!

Not a lot of substance Gator23.
But then again, fans of Juan McShame (D-Mexico) have never really made their decisions based on facts or conservative positions. Just that Juan has a better chance of beating Hillary.

Again, no matter who wins between Hillary and Juan, we'd have a liberal in the White House.

Romney vs. McCain
While I agree that Romney may not be the "ideal" candidate--who is? Political decisions, as Sowell has pointed out, are by their very nature categorical, not incremental. That said, choosing between Romney or McCain is not exactly like picking your favorite Menendez brother. Romney is the obvious choice for Reaganites. McCain's 83% rating from the Conservative Union aside, what is his rating on tax cuts, immigration, limited government, and judicial appointments?

Exactly Historian!
"McCain's 83% rating from the Conservative Union aside, what is his rating on tax cuts, immigration, limited government, and judicial appointments?"

If his rating over the past 25 years is 83%, I would love to know what it has been over the past 6 years or so!

I'm sure it was in the 90s before he decided to switch teams, ahem, "reach out" to the other side of the isle!

CasualConservative.com

Can you imagine how that
ugly, foul mouthed, vicious and egomaniacal old man is going to look in National debates against the oh so charming and polished Obama? Of course, if the Dem nominee is Madame Clinton, I would have to say that one would not be able to tell the difference between them, except for her hair.

It does remind me of the 96' election, except that Bob Dole was far more of a gentleman than McCain ever could be.

Give me a reason to vote for Romney
I am no fan of McCain, but Romney hasn't given me any reason to change my vote from Huckabee to him. Being a so-called "conservative" is not enough. Mitt has dedicated most of his natural life to liberal causes and has flip-flopped more times than a pancake at IHOP. He certainly is no "dyed-in-the-wool" conservative. He doesn't connect with people, and people don't trust him. He reminds me of a slick used car salesman that will say anything for his benefit. Its not Huckabee supporters that are giving McCain the nomination. Its Mitt. Hugh, maybe you, your pundits and your boy, Mitt should have played a little nicer and not try to smear the record of Huckabee. Because there is no way that Huck supporters are going to vote for him now.

Romney can't be trusted
He took positions that Conservatives consider Liberal in order to win the Governor's chair in Massachusetts. Almost immediately, he decided to run for President and began changing his position on issues to appear like Super Conservativeman. His approval ratings in Massachusetts began to tank. His hometown newspapers have written that he isn't trustworthy. I have to agree. I will never give my vote to Mitt Romney. He can't be trusted.

McCain is the Most Liberal
Why else would the New York Times endorse McCain? Is there any reason? Of course not. Voting for McCain is letting the leftists re-define conservative ideology. McCain fought hard for amnesty, voted against tax cuts and wants to tax gasoline to help "address" global warming the US.

Conservatives must defeat McCain and unite around Mitt Romney.

So, McCain.
You want a President to have good judgement.

McCain has none.
He worked with the Lt. for life, fraud, traitor John F. Kerry and assisted in keeping info from Ameica on Kerry's record and the info on possible still alive POW's in the Russian system.

He worked with the worst Democrat of our time Ted Kennedy often, and on the most danger one,
Am-nasty, and he will work with Ted Kennedy more and most often.

He does this and has no idea how evil it is,
he does this willful, with a plan. The fact he was a POW does not, DOES NOT give him the right to work with true evil such as John F. Kerry and Ted Kennedy.

Yes, id did serve in nam, 2 years I-Corps,
under Gen. Lewis M. Walt, on and across the dam DMZ and heard the tapes McMcain made out in the peoples woods on days when we considered ourselfs all dead, and had to think those dam
tapes where the last American voice I would heard.
Dam Him.

Nancy...
Yes, Mitt has made some mistakes and switched positions, while governing an uber-liberal state. But at least he has switched to the CORRECT side, and acknowledges that they were mistakes. Has McCain EVER done that? No. And Arizona is a conservative state. (how is their border BTW?)

Mitt's hometown newspapers have gone against him because he has become more conservative. The newspapers (NY TIMES) love McCain because he has gone more liberal. AND HE DOESN'T APOLOGIZE FOR IT!! I don't like flip-flops on either side, but with McCain he's switching FROM conservatism, not TO conservatism. That's the WRONG DIRECTION!

Even if you don't trust Romney, you have to admit that he's definitely more trustworthy than McCain!

CasualConservative.com

Mccain, Kerry, Swiftboat Vets for Truth
Remember how McCain responded about the Swiftboaters exposure of Kerry's lies. He instantly denounced them very strongly. McCain and Kerry are close buddies.

McCain, Kennedy, Kerry, Feingold. Now that's a group to send chills down any thinking persons spine.

hey btc827
Mitt Romney is not only super pro-abortion, he is super, duper pro-abortion. Watch him express his views at a debate with Ted Kennedy when Mitt ran unsuccesfully for senator. I love Ted's response:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9IJUkYUbvI

Then watch him again defend his stance at another debate while he was running for governor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9IJUkYUbvI

I can not believe that someone who so passionately expresses his support for abortion and the reason why, just wakes up one morning and suddenly changes their mind.

Campaign Promises

I am sick and tired of campaign promises.

What if you tell me, “I am going to do a high-dive into that swimming pool,” but when you get to the pool you find it has no water, so you don’t dive.

Now, do I call you a liar for saying you would dive, but didn’t, or do I think you are very smart for looking at the situation, and making a proper decision for the circumstances that existed at that exact time?

Just convince me that you are an intelligent person who will make the right decisions at the proper time, and don’t try to persuade me that you know what you will do in a situation that may or may not exist a year from now.

Luis.
That's great, old footage. Got anything newer? He's apologized for it, and moved on. Has the grumpy old man ever apologized for anything?

Again, it's one thing to change your mind, it's another to change your mind in the WRONG DIRECTION!

CasualConservative.com

Where is Democracy?
Hugh you are a joke...the real conservative is Mike Huckabee...check him out and see for yourself...if you dont know where he stands be open minded and do not let the media decide for you people! This is america...is democracy dead?

TH Commentor
What about the Wall Street Journal? Are they a liberal newspaper too? While they don't usually endorse anyone, they sure went out of their way to un-endorse Romney today:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120182471883733637.html?mod =opinion_main_review_and_outlooks

I'm sorry TH...
but an apology doesn't cut it with me. One issue? Maybe. Two issues? OK. Youthful indescretions? Sure, been there done that. But every single conservative issue? No sorry, I don't buy it. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth, both nostrils and at least one ear. Mr. "Multiple Choice" puts slick Willie to shame.

Luis
Are we counting un-endorsements in the opinion section now?

Here's a quick list of McShame un-endorsements by ACTUAL Conservatives!

Hannity
Rush
Hugh
Coulter
Levin
Ingraham
Prager
anybody with a talk show who is NOT on AirAmerica!
80% of American who didn't want Shamnesty.

I could continue for days!

Luis"an apology doesn't cut it with me."
Then you'd prefer NO APOLOGY, along with BAD JUDGEMENT?

That's what McCain brings. He either has no idea that he's wrong on the issues, or is too old and grumpy to admit it.

So AT BEST, he's either old and stubborn or just plain wrong on the issues that matter to conservatives. Take your pick.

I'll take none of the above.

CasualConservative.com

I'm not supporting Mc Cain TH
I think now would be a good time to give the standard conflict of interest disclaimer. Clear Channel is partially owned by Bain Capital. Not a good career move to talk bad about your boss.

Talk radio is doing itself a terrible disservice by continuing to go against all the principles they supposedly stand for and supporting the most liberal Republican candidate. By the way, I assume Mitt apologized for saying the "R" after his name on the ballot stood for reformer and not Republican? And he apologized for saying he was an independent and not part of the Reagan/Bush era also? I'm guessing he did since he's claiming to be a Republican now. I've got video of both those statements if you want to see them. Can you please post a link to his apologies?

Not quite
I would rather he had a set of core values that he did not deviate from. Then I would at least know where he was coming from and I could trust him. There is a third choice. The only true conservative left in the race, Mike Huckabee.

Nothing good ever comes from defeat
Personally, I always felt proud to be a conservative until now....

I felt we were logical thinkers. Not emotional reactors like libs. We based our choice and actions on rational, real-world based thought, not emoition or worse yet petty personal animosities.....

But the reactions on here are pure emoition and mostly non-sense....

And the "I will vote for hilary or stay home..." stuff is so beyond stupid that its suidial. I mean LITERALLY. But if any of you, as some of you have tried to rationalize, on here think that McCain is no better the those two on keeping our country safe you have really lost your grip.....

I will pledge to support the R nominee no matter who it is because "I get it". Personnally, I dont get the infatuation with Mitt by most of you other then that he seems to be the only R primary canidate left who can beat McCain. I think honestly if McCain where out and it was Fred and Mitt you same blowhards would be ripping Mitt a new A###&*e on his behavior and not issuing the free pass he now has.

Finally, I learned this in my Army training and it is also espoused by Reagan and Ruch - nothing GOOD EVER COMES FROM DEFEAT. Not on the battlefield or politics. Arent we supposed to be reaping the bene's of teaching that R congress a lesson on their errors. Yeah, as we are enjoying a higher minimum wage law (see the report today on lost jobs?), constant calls for surrender, etc. If we lose the war on terror (with accompaning loss of life) or I have to go on to a 2-year waiting list for a life-saving treatment due to the new BILARYCARE plan we are living under, I will not be livin' the dream thinking how great it was we purged the R party of anyone who deviated from "the pure doctrine".....

Think of the best interest of you country when you vote. If you conclude its defeat and Hilary are better then great, deal with and dont whine on here or elsewhere...

Romney's problem
Is that he campaigned in a glass house with a stone in both hands. He is a northeast liberal, that governed like a liberal, lies like a liberal, and campaigns like a liberal.

None for me thanks.

Don't forget Congress

I wouldn’t use this as a complete go/no go on McCain, but 20 years ago when I lived near Palm Springs, I played tennis with people from all over the world.

In two different years I played with two different men who had worked for McCain. One had been fired, one had just quit because he could not stand McCain’s temper, and his private comments on this and that.

I don’t know their names, I don’t know if they knew each other, or had worked together, but their comments were much the same, and they were not good for McCain.

I am hoping for for a smoke filled room at the convention, and the report from that room will say Newt, Newt, Newt.

Remember, Clinton’s second term was almost livable, because Newt ran the Congress.

Bush’s terms have been unlivable because no one ran the Congress.

Let’s just see a couple of phrases from that old document called the Constitution, and remember that the Congress is just as important as the President, if not more so.

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law;

The Right Has Rallied to McCain and Huck
Rejecting the unpardonable sins of Romney for once opposing an amendment to stop gay marriage and for once being adamantly pro-choice, the conservatives have swung to McCain and Huckabee. Most of those still supporting Romney still do not know the record of his flip flops.

The Coulter Circus is leaving town now with all of Limbaugh's losers in the clown troupe, such as Sean, Hugh, Levin, and Michael Reagan, those that tried to fake out real conservatives with the newly reinvented Mitt. It did not work and now the GOP voters are declaring at the ballot box who they consider to be RINO's. Nope, it's not Mac or Huck. It's Mitt.

Social Conservatives, Wake Up!
The so-called "conservative" punditry has spoken. Do they support the senator with the 100% pro-life voting record, who supported constitutional recognition of traditional marriage in his home state, who voted for Alito and Roberts (and Scalia and Thomas for that matter)? No. What about if it was him vs. Hillary? No, they still wouldn't support him. Why? Taxes. Won't deport the Beaners.

Well then surely they support the underdog campaign of a Baptist minister who had a solid record of turning a huge deficit into a surplus in his own state and has a solid social conservative record to boot? Nope. Not a chance. Why? Taxes. Won't deport the Beaners.

Some of them have actually gone on record saying they would rather lose the election and have a liberal Democrat in the White House. Better to lose with a candidate we like than win with one we don't. And who do they like? A John Kerry clone who supported abortion rights, gay marriage, and hated Reagan's guts up until 5 minutes before he decided he was gonna run for President. But that's ok. We like his views on taxes and deporting the Beaners.

Do you still believe that these "conservatives" are on your side?

All of you Huckabee
supporters and Ron Paul supporters are doing is basically ensuring that McCain is going to be the Republican nominee.
If my hero, RWR, could change his mind and admit that he was wrong about Pro-Life issues, I believe that Mitt Romney could do the same.
Please don't give McCain the victory-
It does speak volumes how the liberals love McCain, don't you think?

Oh Brog, Did you really say
"beaners"?

Sorry Persephone
I would vote for Mc Cain before I vote for Romney. Luckily I have Mike Huckabee to vote for instead.

Yes I said Beaners and I meant it.
As far as I'm concerned, calling John McCain "McShamnesty" is essentially saying that the only acceptable course of action is the immediate deportation of all illegal immigrants, which as we all know, mostly consist of Mexicans.

And it shows that you're hopelessly out of tough with your own party, 50% of whom also support a path to normalized residency in the U.S., provided harsh penalties are paid.

To support deportation is to validate the left's claims that the Republican party is (a) racist, (b) unrealistic in their approach, and (c) going to lose the latino vote forevermore due their own stubbornness.

Good job! Your Aryan-lite approach has not only guaranteed full unconditional amnesty (because the Democrats who control the white house and an even bigger majority of the congress have made it so), but now the GOP has been doomed to minority party status for a generation.

The Two Sides of Huckabee
Can any of you Huckabee voters give on thing that you know Huckabee will do for YOU by being president? I have heard that he wants to put a highway in Florida and a highway in California and he backs H.R.25 the so called fair tax. this tax has not garnered support from even the Republican party in 5 years because it is full of holes. And Huckabee knows it.

The calculations are based on the premise that it will save tax payers money by implimenting a federal sales tax and since illegals don't pay any taxes now, they will be forced to pay tax when they purchase goods and services...DUH!!! PEOPLE!!

TELL ME. How does this work if Huckabee is AGAINST AMNESTY!!! LISTEN to his own words here…HE cannot promise BOTH SIDES OF THIS ISSUE!

Beacon Hill Institute did the research of the fair tax...read it...the calculations are based on illegals paying federal sales tax...it is lauded that way all over the Internet. Or do you not want to find out the truth? It isn't hard...hit your search button...do it for your own peace of mind?

Huck should stay in to defeat Romney
Romney is a used car salesmen and everyone but the so-called "conservative" talk show hosts get this. He doesn't believe a word he says, but hey, gotta say what the kids want to hear right? Love ya babe. Call me.

Romney is proof that he good old boys club is alive and kicking and that ideology means nothing. And for elitists like Hugh and Rush, it's either Romney or Hillary. Either one would be fine.

Fortunately, enough true conservatives are seeing path this blather to rally behind one of the two true conservatives left in the race, Huckabee or McCain. McCain? Yes, McCain. But even if you can't vote for McCain now, you can still vote for Huckabee to send a message to Con$ervative Pundits, Inc. that you're not buying into their load of crap.

Hey wuzzledorf...
what are you a socialist? I don't want Huckabee or the government doing anything for me. I can do for myself, thank you very much. Just stay out of my way. Sure illegals will pay the tax, so will drug dealers, tourists, foreign exchange students, service industry employees that fudge on their tips, everyone that makes a purchase pays tax. It's a lot easier to hide income and skip paying on it, than it is to walk into a store and avoid paying it on a purchase.

Huck Voters Think about this
If Huck wants some leverage he needs a brokered convention. The only way that is going to happen is if Romney and Huck combined prevent McCain from getting enough delegates.

If McCain gets enough delegates before the convention, Huck will have no leverage. Adding Huck as a VP does not offset McCain's weaknesses. McCain will not pick him unless he has to.

If Huck divides the Super T delegates between McCain and Romney instead of blocking Romney then Huck begins to have some real broker power. If he doesn't Huck will get used by McCain.

The Huck voters in all of the states that Huck is losing need to vote for Romney on Super T. That helps Huck a lot more than giving those states to McCain.

Huck and leverage
The only way Huck has leverage is if McCain does not get enough delegates before the convention.

It is far better for Huck to have Romney win some states where Huck has no chance than to have them go to McCain.

If Huck voters supported Romney in NY and CT those delegates may not go to McCain. The same is true for IL and most of CA.

Huck is going to win the states he is going to win.

However, blocking Romney and giving the nomination to McCain will backfire on Huck. Huck does not offset McCain's weaknesses. McCain will not make Huck VP unless there is a brokered convention.

Even if Huck voters helped Romney win a couple of states that would normally go to McCain that would give Huck had a lot more leverage.

McCain will owe (and give) Huck nothing if he gets the nomination before the convention.

NO AMNESTY
I WILL VOTE FOR WHO IS AGAINS'T AMNESTY, BUT AS THE MSM WANTS IT THERE WILL BE NO ONE FOR ME TO VOTE FOR . THEY DON'T WANT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS IF ONE OF THEM ARE FOR NO AMNESTY. I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR MCCAIN. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, I WLL SIT HOME AND I WILL NOT CHANGE MY MIND PEROID....................................................................................

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Huck
Since when should anyone else decide how I am supposed to vote? I am voting for Huckabee...MY DECISION, MY CHOICE.

I agree BG
that Huck does not offset McCain's weaknesses. I don't see Huck becoming Mc Cain's VP. That is why it should be every man for himself at this point. IL and CA are proportional, so it's to Huck's advantage to get every delegate he can. NY and CT are winner take all. I can't see giving away 131 delegates to Romney. He's got a big ego to match his big wallet and that's a dangerous combination. Romney is buckling, it's time to take him down.

Huckabee
If you have not read about how much the candidates have spent on this election, you should. It is on the FOX News web site. As we know, Huckabee has raised the least, but he still has nearly $3 million to work with. Romney has spent 88 million dollars (that sum is incredible to me) and only has 1 million left. McCain is overdrawn. Now based on that who is the most CONSERVATIVE with their money. Who is getting more done with less. Romney has spent and spent and the media and pundits have helped as much as they can, but he's TIED with Huckabee. Yet we're told it's a two man race. What in the world is wrong with people? Vote for Mike!

A vote for the Huckster.....
is a vote for McCain. If McCain is the nominee....lights out. 4 years of Obamanomics.

My 5 Smooth Stones
by Mike Huckabee

We are in this race to win despite the desperate efforts by the Romney campaign to try and say that "a vote for me is a vote for McCain". Actually, a vote for me is a vote for me!

We have outlasted Rudy, Fred, and others who were supposed to be the winners. Only 8% of the Republican delegates have been selected, and we have about the same number of delegates as McCain or Romney. We are in it to win.

The Romney campaign knows this and they are running scared.

So far the media has with a few exceptions, been content to sell this sham of a story to their viewers and listeners. You would think that under this coordinated assault, we would be sinking in the polls nationally.

Not so. FOX News has us tied with Gov. Romney in 2nd place nationally in a new poll of registered voters.

What's more, in Tennessee, Georgia, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas and Oklahoma, recent polls have us in first or tied for first.

We can win. We will win.

Actual Numbers versus polling
Call me old fashioned, but shouldn't elections in both the general election and nominating process we are currently going throug be decided at the ballot box and not by polling and pundantry propaganda?

So far in the race for the Republican nomination, Johm McCain has received 1,207,988 votes, which is 33.5% of votes cast.

Mitt Romney has received 1,131,108 votes, which is 31.3% of the votes.

Mike Huckabee has rceived 603,094 votes, which is 16.7% of the vote.

According to CNN, McCain has 95 delegates, Romney 67, Huckabee 26 delegates and Ron Paul 6 delegates. Guiliani received 1 delegate.

There are 1191 delegates needed to win the nomination. McCain 95 delegates are 7.9% of those needed to win the nomination.

If there was honest reporting, This would still be labeled as a dead heat horse race. Instead, McCain is being touted as about to run away with the nomination. Because of the propganda efforts, that may succeed, but this is no time to be waving the white flag if you are Mitt Romney or the conservative movement to concede the party to the Maverick Donkey when the lead is only 2.2% with Romney winning the voted of conservative and Republican's so far. Shouldn't Republicans pick their nominee?

As Ronald Reagan did in 1996, Romney and the convervative movement should continue to fight clear to the convention or at least as long as McCain hasn't secured the delegates needed to win the nomination.

McCain will get a lot of delegates on super tuesday, but is unlikely to be mor than half way to the nomination if Convervatives will stay in the fight and get to the polls to vote for Governor Romney.

Even if we lose like Reagan did in 1996, it can be the foundation for victory down the road because if the Republcan party jumps on the Maverick donkey's "straight talk" express, they are going to crash and burn next november regardless of what the polls and pundits are telling us now.

Huckabee voters
Mitt Romney has received nearly twice as many votes as Huckabee. Sure he has spent a lot more money in doing it and Huckabee might be in front with more money but he doesn't have it and has been unable to raise it. It isn't convervative or christian to covet the success and the wealth of others. The odds of him winning are far greater than either McCain or Romney.

If Huck is your man then vote for him, but you are going to have a hard time convincing me he is trying to win the nomination or is a convervative when he continues to attack Romney rather than McCain.

John McCain has said he doesn't support overturning Roe V. Wade or making abortion illegal. He tried to silence the pro-life movement with McCain/Feingold and suing Wisconsin right to life. He cheated on and dumped his first wife. During the 2000 campaign he showed his contempt for religious conservatives many times. Why does Governor Huckabee give McCain a pass if Huck wants to win?

Governor Huckabee has put forth a strong plan to control the borders, McCain has written what will be the blue print for the Democratic nominee's position and platform for maintaining open borders and granting amnesty to illegals. Why does he give McCain a pass?

When McCain distorts and lies by saying Romney supported pulling out of Iraq, it seems like something that a minister of the gospel should object to rather than saying John McCain is an honest man. Where's the fire and brimstone in the belly to beat the guy that we are all being told is standing in you way Governor Huckabee?

At least, Huck should be giving equal time to both guys standing in his way if he truly wants to win rather than just being in it to spoil Romneys chances and help hand the nomination to McCain he has betrayed many of the things Governor Huckabee says he believes.

NO "deals" for ROMNEY
unlike the GOP "establishment" and the power brokers: corrupt criminal liars like McCain
who made a deal with CRIST to be his VP

HUCK will be shocked when McCain kicks him into the gutter and won't even say thanks for the
win you gave me:

ROMNEY will NEVER make a deal under the table
like corrupt MCain and corrupt Huckabee would do

His life has been honor, integrity, decency,
doing what is honest, fair and right:

Can't say that about CORRUPT CRIMINAL
McCain the Keating 5 criminal who got a get out of jail card because he pulled the POW PITY PARTY;

SO: Bush boys threw Romney under the bus
According to Novak

the BUSH boys threw Romeny under the bus
and backed over him ::: Used their connections like Huckabee, Rudy, Crist, Arnold, etc. to
do the hatchet job:

all because of his stand against illegals

the GOP establishment is corrupt

time for a new party

Joe Murray...Don't give it up joe...
All conservatives still standing...already know that Hucks a whore looking for a piece of the McCain spoils...
The effort is underway to advocate Mitt...Might be a little late but we will see...
You guys made a mistake getting sucked into fighting the Mormon thing...kept those whom really didn't care about that (most conservatives) from getting Mitt's message and true history.
We got it now though...you can believe it :)

will Mc jump parties after we elect him
so:

McCain has been at the edge of the cliff with broken fingernails about to jump into the Democratic party:

so we all bend over to get him elected and he will stab us in the back and jump parties after he is in the White house:

WE WILL DO AS the CORRUPT GOP power brokers say
reach accross the isle

We will close our checkbooks to the GOP, reach out and support Obama, he can beat hillary too

B2slim ...stay current...McCain..etc.
Have been exposed...old news...we are all pissed!
We are now in the doing something about it phase.
Make calls...send emails...grab wimp R's by the throat if needs be... I've throttled two so far :)

abnormal DNA and Brog
Another McCain myth buster:

McCain lived a life of privelege, even in the Hanoi Hilton:

-Son and grandson of 4-star admirals, he was prepped at the elite and very expensive private school in Virginia: the Episcopal School.

-His arms were broken during his ejection from his aircraft, but after his hosts found out he was the son of the Naval Chief in Vietnam, he was given good medical treatment. Most of the other POWs in that condition would have been left untreated and left to die. McCain was the only POW to have gained weight during his sojourn at the Hanoi Hilton--in return for information.

What we can sum up about these seemingly unrelated facts are that John always took care of John, Numero Uno. He agreed to lengthen his stay at the Hilton due to his overwhelming guilt at getting 4-star treatment.

He is a selfish, self-centered bragadocio interested in furthering his political career on the backs of others.

He would screw the GOP with illegal hordes, compromises with Hillary and the Demoncrats, and lead to the GOP conservative movement being set back for decades. McCain is a 25+ year political hack.

He has no intellectual fortitude. Graduating near the bottom of the USNA indicates a certain level of idiocy.

Mitt, in contrast, can process and crystallize vast amounts of info to make excellent decisions. He has been able to make the right decision to lead to financial solvency in numerous settings.

I do not like McCain, but I hate lying about the man when the truth is bad enough.

The facts of the Keating 5

''The appearance of it was wrong,'' McCain said recently. ''It's a wrong appearance when a group of senators appear in a meeting with a group of regulators, because it conveys the impression of undue and improper influence. And it was the wrong thing to do.''

McCain noted that Bennett, the independent counsel, recommended that McCain and Glenn be dropped from the investigation.

''For the first time in history, the Ethics Committee overruled the recommendation of the independent counsel,'' McCain said. ''I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that I was the only Republican of the five and the Democrats were in the majority (in the Senate).''

But McCain owns up to his mistake:

''I was judged eventually, after three years, of using, quote, poor judgment, and I agree with that assessment.''

Luis, you are suffering from
extreme delusions to think that the Hucksterbee has a chance of winning this thing. You got used like a tool, in trying to tag team Mitt by the McCainiacs. They don't give a whit about your boy.

But go ahead, keep attacking Mitt, and maybe he might give your boy a position of dogcatcher or something akin to that. LOL!

Those whom trespass against us? :)

5'7" and a septuagenarian
Pasty-white skin and hair with a melanoma-pocked face who married into money and ready to have an apoplectic attack. Doesn't he look like Ariel "Arik" Sharon of Israel before he had his life-altering permanent stroke. Do you really want Mr. Depends with oatmeal dribbling down his chin on the nuclear button?

Heaven help us all.

Of course, we have the Arkansas clown who can't locate Pakistan on a map as a possible #2. Oh, but he wants to stop Pakis at the southern border as his method of confronting terrorism. Maybe he'll launch nukes at Mexico to stop Middle Eastern terrorists. What a bozo!! Quip your way out of that: or should we all commit Huckacide? Huckster's excuse could be they never taught us geography in theology school.

Are these the best and brightest the GOP has to offer? I don't think so, and I will vote with time, talent and treasure to NEVER help these two jerks.

Huckster is a wimp--he needs Chucky
Huckster was so scared of a heckler last time around, he was hiding behind Chuck Norris, "Oh please, Chucky, can you go back there and take care of that mean heckler?...I don't care if she is a woman...I know how rough my wife can be".

Huckster couldn't fight his way out a paper bag.

Let's take a look at Mitt's chiseled body vs. flabby Huckster vs. pre-stroke McCain...The women and men would probably agree. Mitt by far is the most fit of them all.

Always been a softie

Really do not know what you are talking about though.
McCain is a lot of things I do not like, but he is not a criminal.
Nor was he guilty of anything in the Keating 5 investigation, just using bad judgment in the appearence of his knowing Keating and meeting with regulators of the Savings and Loan.

He done nothing criminally wrong.
Nor did he whine and get off anything by crying about being a POW.
To say he did is an outright lie.

If the truth of that is soft , there are times truth appears hard and most people just turn their head. Like they do with the truth about Romney
Like all the posters do here who support the man and his lying lips, flipping and flopping and chickenhawk ways.

I am not giving up.
Ronald Reagan was a great president who also started out Governor of a Liberal state (CA), part of the liberal establishment (Hollywood), with liberal ideas (pro-choice) etc. He evolved. And he gave one of the most memorable speeches in support of pro-life I've ever heard.

Anyone who admires Reagan has NO REASON to bash Romney. Much less the attacks on Mitt for his religion, his geography, his "style". Ugly.

Romney is like Reagan. He was passively liberal on abortion and gay marriage, in a state where it's political suicide to be otherwise. He evolved (lot flipped), and promptly earned the backlash of the Globe and NYT in endorsing his opponent, your man, McCain. Who's braver in the face of liberal pressure?

Uglier still is the cynicism of sticking your thumbs in the wind, reading RealClearPolitics and mindlessly following the polls. Well the polls for the primaries may be close, but those for the General Election aren't worth SQUAT. You're all foolish if you're basing your support on polls for a date still nearly a year away. MCCain will be crushed, and when you people wait to see it reflected in the polls, it'll be too late.

Also ugly to behold, offensive to the senses, is the fear of Hillary getting in the way of principle. The principle could simply be stated as, McCain is no conservative. But it's actually simpler and more visceral then that: He's a proven liar, back-stabber, petty, divisive (to our party), a man contemptuous of most things I hold dear: Conservatism and loyalty.

Being a POW is one thing, using that fact to elevate yourself, in place of substance, is infuriating.

Fight on Conservatives
I am glad there are a few still on here willing to fight the fight. I'm going to email 10 people back at home in Missouri, and ask them to do the same, to support Romney. He's not perfect but he is good enough for me, I will give him my trust, simply based on his actions I've observed directly.

Someone on here described Mitt derisively as th "uncool kid" showing up and trying to fit in. You know what? I'm a million times more comfortable with that depiction, then the beltway insider egomaniac, who insults everyone and gets away with it.

Don't give up, Conservatives. Fight to the end.

the Real McCain
MY FRIENDS!

Amazing, Republicans believe NY and LA Times are champions of the right... What next, endorsement of the UN.

Juan no friend of POWS. See McCain video, he didn't want to find pow's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBiti-ZbeO0&feature=related

Juan not a “straight-talker.” McCain video on McCain
http://therealmccain.com/2007/01/john_mccain_vs_john_mccain .php

Juan opposes first amendment. Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (BCRA), popularly known as McCain-Feingold made it a "federal crime for any corporation to broadcast, shortly before an election, any communication that names a federal candidate for elected office and is targeted to the electorate." (Such as Pro-Life) (overturned in McCain v. Wisconsin Right to Life)

Juan opposes traditional marriage.

McCain voted AGAINST the Marriage Amendment 7-14-04 and again on 6-7-6

Juan no friend of the unborn.

McCain Voted AGAINST National Right to Life Issues
25% of the time in 2005-2006
18% of the time in 2003-2004 and
67% of the time in 2001-2002.
He missed the vote on the Brownback Amendment #2707, it would have prohibited funding of organizations that support coercive abortion. 9-6-7.

Juan anti-family.

McCain Voted AGAINST Family Research Council and American Family Association issues
38% of the time in 2006
34% of the time in 2005
33% of the time in 2004
0% of the time in 2003
25% of the time in 2002
33% of the time in 2001

Juan is in this for himself.

John McCain DID NOT VOTE on 56.1% or 249 SENATE votes during this past congressional session.
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303 /votes/missed/

Meet John McCain – His record shows he votes against Conservatives values 56.1% of the time. What will he do with a Democrat house and Senate, move right or left? What do you think? Oh, did I mention McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Bill or the McCain-Lieberman Energy Tax bill.

A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain.

I blame the conservative establishment!
HAD the establishment not so FEVERISHLY attacked and killed the Huckabee campaign, you would have had a honest conservative that actually has charisma to go against John McCain and BEAT McCain. Instead we get Romney (who is a nice guy) but is NOT likeable.

McCain will win BECAUSE of the conservative boneheads like Rush, Hugh, Sean, etc bashing the crap outta Huckabee and not supporting him. Way to go guys...back the Massachusetts governer with a liberal record and no likability.

No wonder McCain will win....

Huckabee a conservative?
Huckabee's record in Arkansas was anything but conservative. All this country needs is another Governor from Arkansas as POTUS. What a nightmare that would be!!!

McCain and Romney
John McCain may not be the prefect candidate and he may be an SOB, but we're going to need an SOB to beat down the jihadists over the next decade or so. Besides, I'll bet that McCain doesn't believe that an angel named Moroni was running around in 19th Century America.

Until Romney stands up and denies the dogma of Mormonism, he's outside my reality. He couldn't be trusted with US leadership.

I will never vote for McCain
McCain dumped his wheel chair bound first wife for a younger, wealthy, trophy wife. I will take Mitt any day. The conservatives I have talked to have said they will not vote for McCain. They and I believe that if McCain gets the nomination that he will lose and we will have to wait until 2012 to purge the dinosaur moderates out of the GOP like McCain.

Whig Party=modern GOP
Boutte

You are right. Ron Paul is THE conservative, not the neo-con conservative.

People today are just too dumb to know the difference. I guess they should study the old Whig
Party of the 1800's. The GOPers now carry their mantle.

Too Old
McCain would be 71 if elected, 3 years older than any President ever. If the McCainiacs weren't blinded with ignorance, even they could admit that. They won't. Even with his poor ideas, Obama will dance circles around this guy. He hasn't strung together a cogent arguement, no to mention an honest one, yet.

RE: Gator23 - John Kerry lite?
I'm sorry Gator23 but calling Mitt Romney John Kerry lite is an insult to John Kerry. Mitt makes Kerry look like an amateur flip flopper.

Who would McCain put on the Court?
If you are concerned about the Supreme Court, please read this article before voting:

realchange.townhall.com

No to...
No to religious bigots
No to liars
No to haters

I don't need to say who this applies to but you know who you are.
