Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

"[Thompson] is sure to face sharper criticism from those who say that his eight-year Senate record was undistinguished and that his credentials as a conservative are marred by his support of campaign finance reform. Some also say he is a lackadaisical campaigner, pointing to his sometimes rambling maiden speech last month in Orange County, Calif., as evidence that he is overhyped.

Republican pollster Neil Newhouse, who helps conduct the NBC-Wall Street Journal Poll with Democrat Peter Hart, said an analysis of their most recent poll indicated that Thompson's entry could initially hurt Giuliani and McCain."  --a Michael Shear and Dan Ballz story in The Washington Post, 5/31/07

It is different in the pool. There are elbows, and reporters, and opposition research.

But from the perspective of a columnist and talk show host, the entry of Fred Thompson into the race is a great day. The sooner the GOP debates get down to the big four (plus Newt if he gets in) the better. Senator Brownback, Governor Huckabee, and Congressman Hunter are fine men and serious public servants, but if you can’t get over 10% in even one state poll from among the first four states in which contests will be held –Iowa, New Hampshire, Florida and South Carolina—you shouldn’t be in the first tier, and only the first tier should be taking up prime time in the months ahead.

Many of my blog readers think I am in the bag for Romney based on my book’s disclosure that if the California primary had been held the day the book appeared I would have voted for Romney. That assessment still holds, but as the book noted, campaigns are long, strange affairs. People cry in the back of trucks. Candidates grab microphones and fall off stages. Even presidents can make astonishing errors in their appearances, and they have the best advance team in the world. So a lot can happen between now and next January and February.

Fred Thompson is yet another entrant in the GOP lists who is serious about the war, making that unanimous agreement among the GOP top tier versus a unanimous endorsement of retreat and date certain defeat among the Democrats. There’s the defining issue f the general campaign.

One of the defining issues of the primary campaign will be the immigration bill, and it has defined John McCain right out of his already thin chance to be the nominee. He has now added McCain-Kennedy 2.0 to McCain-Feingold, The Gang of 14, McCain-Kennedy 1.0 and the display of pique last September on the trial and treatment of terrorists in an impressive bid to antagonize every conservative on at least two grounds. I don’t think he makes it to Iowa and the humiliation of fourth place finishes there and in New Hampshire. As the Post notes, Thompson bleeds McCain immediately, giving all the early McCain boosters who thought they were signing up for a front-runner certain to benefit from the GOP’s “next-in-line” tradition of nominees a chance for a Mulligan. Do-overs are rare in politics, but the unexpected arrival on the scene of an “old friend” presents just such an opportunity.

Mayor Giuliani and Governor Romney might lose some folks as well, but their supporters signed up for something completely different than a coronation, and thus far they are getting exactly what they ought to have expected: vibrant and interesting campaigns by candidates of the sort that don’t normally show up in the GOP primaries.

Fred Thompson arrives with many on the sidelines whispering Reagan. Perhaps, but just perhaps. President Reagan was a Californian, not a southerner, an upbeat and sunny optimist who had spent 16 years on the chicken circuit helping the party, and having made one unsuccessful run for the GOP nomination. Few Republicans every thought to raise questions about Reagan’s fire in the belly.

What Republicans really want is a candidate capable of handling the coming onslaught. There is a great fear in the GOP that Hillary is approaching with Bill in the sidecar and Senator Obama on the bottom of the ticket, MoveOn and Kosputin whipping the fever swamp into a frenzy and Soros pouring his last cent into his last play. Thompson as Reagan meant for a lot of these people not Thompson as a conservative's conservative, but Thompson as a powerful candidate capable of summoning a huge outpouring of energy and enthusiasm from the base and the old Reagan Democrats alike leading to a big win as in 1980 and 1984. Couldn't we please have a candidate who could establish and keep a lead like the Gipper.

Except, of course, Ronald Reagan did not establish and keep a lead in 1980. Until the last few days of the race, President Carter and Governor Reagan were viewed as neck-and-neck in a race too close to call. There isn't any reason to believe that Fred would have any easier a go of it than Rudy or Mitt, and as that becomes obvious in the days and weeks and months after his entry, the folks hoping for an easy win are going to drop that enthusiasm and start looking hard again at all three, asking which one is the best candidate.

These are the Al Davis Republicans --"Just win, baby"-- and their support will be decisive in 1Q08. One reason I suspect the Fred boom may be over before it has even really begun is the recognition that on the stump Fred will be seen as the southerner he is --slow, folksy, plain spoken. In a year when an anti-Bush may be needed, a Brooklyn-born Mob-busting tough guy, or the hyper-intelligent, hyper-eloquent investment banker turnaround executive may emerge quickly as far more likely to be the "something completely different " that Reagan was in 1980, and thus the strong preference of the Al Davis GOPers.

Too early to say, and besides, no one in my business would want a rout one way or the other. A long campaign of intense debates and lots of press attacks and parries is exactly what the eventual nominee will need to be in fighting shape for the fall of ’08. Hillary is not going to get bloodied along the way as Senators Edwards and Obama know better than to poke that nest. She’ll process to Denver, and then when the storm arrives we’ll see which party had the better approach.

The Fred Boom will keep growing
Fred might come off as "slow, folksy, plain spoken", but more than anything else we need a candidate who has the ability to by-pass the media and get his message out to the people. Fred has that ability. You are one of the biggest proponents of the changing face of the media, and any candidate that we nominate needs to take full advantage of that new media. Fred has shown he has the ability to think outside of the box in getting his message out. He is also a guy who will stand up and defend, quite eloquently, what he believes in.

I would vote for any of these 3 candidates should they win the primary, but the essential skill they need, in my eyes, is to stand up for what they believe, and be willing and creative about taking that argument past the media. It doesn't hurt that people actually like that he is "slow, folksy, plain spoken"...

Hugh is as excellent as ever!
Giuliani and McCain are DOA, just like a safari, RINO’s make BIG targets. Romney is by far the best of the current crop, The 7 Dwarfs should go back to their various tree houses.

Fred Thompson connects with folks in a way nobody else can. He is down home, plain spoken, country folk. Whatever he has in life, he got it on his own through hard work, determination or just plain dumb luck. Also, with his answer to Michael Moore, he has shown he can drop the gloves & hold his own with The Moonbats.

BTW, congrats are in order!
I have officially picked up at least 2 Backbiting, Liberal, Guttersnipes who revile every posting I make! With any luck, I hope to be as reviled as BrianR, GunnyG, Peppermint and others to numerous to name.

Correction
With any luck, I hope to be as reviled as BrianR, GunnyG, Peppermint and others too numerous to name.

I don't know if I can hold my nose
and vote for the Mayor! If we nominate Guilani, I think we may win the battle, (Presidency) and lose the "Soul" of the party.

Fred will run! Fred will win!
As it happens I actually agree with Fred on almost everything - but regardless IT DOES MATTER THAT WE WIN!!! The single most important thing is to elect a President the will appoint conservative justices to the Supreme Court! End the tyranny of the ACLU!

Law and Order Campaign?
As an alternative to Fred, I'm suggesting Mariska Hargitay, also on "Law and Order." She's much harder than Fred on the bad guys -- plus she's almost infinitely better looking than Fred. Also, there's a persistent rumor that Fred is one of the three laziest men in Tennessee.

Moving right along . . .

On my almost-famous blog I'm writing this week about the Democratic presidential candidates' disastrous health care proposals. The following is an excerpt from Thursday's column, which I urge you to read (click on my name above) and to comment on.

David Gratzer was a medical student in his native Canada when he learned there was something profoundly wrong with the country’s much-praised health care system. One day on his way to class he took a shortcut through the university hospital’s emergency facilities. What he saw horrified him.

"In medical school, I learned my most important lesson not in a classroom but on the way to one. On a cold Canadian morning about a decade ago, late for class, I cut through a hospital emergency room . . . and came upon dozens of people on stretchers -- waiting, moaning, begging for treatment. Some elderly patients had waited for up to five days in corridors before being admitted to beds. They smelled of urine and sweat."

He adds, "As I navigated past the bodies, I began to question everything I thought I knew about health care -- not only in Canada, but in the United States. Though I didn't know it then, I had begun a journey into one of the great policy disasters of modern times." (The quoted material is from p. 8 of Dr. Gratzer's book, The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care)

Doesn't Matter Anyway
The Republican is going to lose UNLESS comprehensive immigration reform is shut down IN THE SENATE and casualties in Iraq are a mere memory by November, 2008.

How likely is THAT?

Finally, a breath of reality
Hewitt has this exactly right. The race is now between Guilliani (losing ground), Thompson (still unproven), and Romney - the guy who has done his homework and has the stellar background. The fact is Thompson is not willing to get in and get dirty, and it reveals a lack of respect for voters and for the process. We've heard people say that he should let the others flame out and then get in. It's not an honest way to compete, and I don't think it will fly.

If you are still looking to either
of the two parties to change, you are defintely dreaming. The elites on both sides have cleverly engineered the election process to assure themselves power. If you think Fred Thompson is anything other than another tool of the political machines, you are not watching. He may be the new darling of the Republican elites, but he is tied to Hollywood money and VOLPAC.

If we continue to fall for the Dem/GOP propaganda, and the old myth perpetuated by the MSM that only a Republican or Democrat can be President, we will in the end, once again vote for the lesser of two evils. It will be one more time we trusted them and discovered that doing the same thing never has and never will produce a different result. It will be guaranteed to create a future for our great nation and our children of more big government, less personal freedom, and greater influence of the internationalists from here, the U.N., and Europe.

I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. I am the only candidate not tied to political machines, PACs, or money handling lobbyists. I have no career to maintain, no position of wealth to defend. On my website, I clearly state throughout it, and pledge in my Campaign Platform, to restore the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people to the rightful owners of this nation, the American people. I clearly show how the elites have grabbed power and how we can reclaim the birthright that has been stolen from us by them.

You need to check it out, and tell me, am I wrong about these points? I don't believe so, and furthermore, I believe that we can do what we need to do if we have some faith and some guts. Why believe that only they are capable, wise, experienced, that they should once again be trusted with this great nation's future? Is it because they say so? Visit my site, you won't be disappointed. This is the time and now is our opportunity! If not, when will it ever be, exactly when? Thanks, Joe

Comparison with 2000 & 2004
Karl Rove's 2000/2004 playbook of "Red States plus Ohio" is dead. Several Red States like Nevada are trending Blue now, and Ohio went definitely for the Democrats in 2006. If the GOP cannot reverse that trend and start winning states that they're currently losing in, they're toast.

All you Thompson supporters, go ahead: Show us EXACTLY which electoral votes you think Thompson can get. Which swing states? Which Blue States, or will you have to write them all off again?

Then repeat that same exercise with Giuliani and Romney.

Giuliani will win New Jersey. He may well win Connecticut and California. He could even give Hillary a real fight in New York State.

Thompson can't do any of that.

Could Thompson even win Ohio, especially given how unpopular Bush and the GOP have become out there?

America is a RINO country
Too many conservatives seem to dismiss candidates like Giuliani and Romney as "RINOs."

But here's a hard truth for them: America is a "RINO" country. That is, it's slightly right of center. America is NOT a hard right-wing country. Its politics are actually closer to Giuliani's than to Thompson's.

Jury still out
Good analysis by Hugh but I think he is over-estimating Giuliani. The real test is coming up once the amnesty leaves the Senate. Everyone who has seen my blog knows I like Fred and Mitt and Duncan. I think Fred stumbled by not stepping up the past two weeks on amnesty. Mitt beat him to it burning his bridges to Jeb Bush in the process. That raises his credibility several notches in my eyes. It should have been Fred's issue. I am disappointed that Fred is delaying his "announcement" until after the amnesty issue will have been resolved. You can't run for president only if it is convenient to your schedule, particularly when too many people are accusing him of being lazy (which I don't buy). Being a firebrand who is instrumental in killing the amnesty bill would give him the jumpstart to overtake the field right out of the gate. Why isn't he doing that? My money right now would be on Mitt but it may be Fred's to win or lose in the next week or two.

And Georgetwin, how come I didn't make your list? I'm every bit as detestable as those you mentioned. Maybe more. Hugh has been fuming since I brought up the issue about a certain 10k race in Cleveland where they had to send out a search party to find the ENTIRE FIELD. (What is WRONG with that city.) Now he's hyping the annual JP Blecksmith 5k in my neighborhood. I doubt we'll lose half as many.

SteveL
So what. We have 18 months to change that. People like me have already pre-voted my re-registering as unaffiliated independents. I am not alone. There are fewer RINO's than you think and more conservatives.

Fred
Hugh - I'm very excited about Fred. He's got the x-factor (or whatever). I'll vote for Romney if he's our guy, but he can't beat Hillary. Put him at the head of the RNC at the end of the primaries to fix our broken, fractured, mind-numbingly defeatist party. And someone tell Newt he throws Bush overboard to our detriment. People who only work in D.C. are such idiots.

Morton

Morton
This Hillary person, is she some super, extraterrestrial being or something? She is taking on a cartoonishly mythical stature in some Republican circles. There are many among us who hold her in higher esteem than the Dems. I'm not among them. If the GOP gets its house straighted out and runs a conservative, game over. Hillary's shadow should not factor in on who we select. She is not even looking all that good to take the Dem nomination. Focus!!

SteveL
We should remember that the last Republican presidential candidate that won elections by landslides was a right-wing conservative who made no bones about his conservatism -- Ronald Reagan.

Bold, no-nonsense conservatives win elections.

Donald Duck
I would like to nominate DONALD DUCK,for the office of PRESIDENT!He's honest, hard working, loves "KIDS",funny, and cute as a button. To have so many candidates in this race, suggest that the PRESIDENCY has lost it's rare quality of Invincibility. In the professional world there is a principle,it's called the "PETER PRINCIPLE".This Principle suggest, that the individual, being promoted, has now exceeded his/her level of competency.I must say, that our present circumstances, may suggest that there is a POSSIBILITY?

Pam said:
"The fact is Thompson is not willing to get in and get dirty, and it reveals a lack of respect for voters and for the process."

Not true, and you've been told this before. He has had contract commitments with his shows which made him unable to set his hat into the ring. The contracts are done in June, he's announcing his running in July.

What did Fred do in the meantime, that lazy senator? Fulfill those commitments and write articles periodically so we can get a sense of him, one issue at a time. I'm sure he read our crazy posts of cheers and jeers, therefore, he got a good sense of his public as well----all for free.

No campaign money trolling, no lackeys telling him what the polls are leaning towards and how he needs to respond this day. Fred was just being Fred.

If people got offended or lost interest in Fred because of his articles to us, and his inability to announce his running until July, you missed his whole point and what he was trying to do with us in the meantime before he makes it official.

I'm not starry eyed, I happen to like him, but he still needs to sell himself to me, as do all the other candidates. I just refuse to pee on this man's parade before he even takes his first step onto the street. Oh, except for Ron Paul...he's done.

Lynne
Liberty and GWB just haven't finished their worthless sparring in other Thompson articles yet. They'll make it here.

Hugh, you are close but no cigar
Rudy is dead in the water, McCain is beached, the race is now between Fred and Mitt. Fred has done something other candidates have not done, fire up the base, generate a huge presence on the Internet. Everyone talking Fred, even you. The hottest non-candidate out there. With the steps Fred's campaign is now taking, he will be an official candidate soon.

Then we get the test drive we deserve and see what metal the two left standing are made of. If Fred puts out the vision thing, holds up under fire, he will win. BTW: What's Mitt's vision?

I am going with Fred until proved otherwise. I could vote for Mitt, but non of the others will get my vote. ... and the RNC won't get my donations this cycle, I will donate to my own choices.

Shells
I agree with what you said about FDT. I like what he has said in pretty much all of his postings here on TH. He is saying the right things about what concerns him and why.

As others have pointed out, he hasn't gotten into solutions yet but I don't expect that here. As others have said, Fred is taking the time to let us know who he is and what he believes, something we seldom see in a politician. That in itself is a breath of fresh air!

10ksnooker
I agree about the donations. During the last election cycle whenever I got a call from the various Repub groups I gave the caller an earful about why I won't give them another nickel until the Repubs in Congress change their ways!

Fred!
Is not Reagan and for sure isn't Bush.
What sets him apart thus far is that he has already embraced our constitution and bill of rights as appropriate guides to run the country with.

Our current Pres. could care less about defending the constitution and I haven't heard a word about caring a hoot about the highest law of the land from the other candidates, except perhaps Duncan and Tancredo.

Once a candidate is elected and takes the oath of office, personal agendas must go out the window and our laws and rights must take precedence over all else.
This is where the last three Presidents (inclusive of the current one) have failed with horrid results.

I Would rather have a moral defender of the constitution than a slick smart anything else.

NeoCon RINOS need not apply.

Lynne
If you seek Liberty or GWB, just find any article written by Fred or an article about Fred, or a love letter to Ron Paul, and there you shall find what you seek....

Yeah but they haven't been here yet. Perhaps they've worn out their tin hats?

Colosteve
Glad you see it the same way, and you to Lynne my friend. Really, all these people feeling insulted because Fred doesn't reveal the treasure map to the crock of gold of solutions to all life's problems is really laughable.

TH is a forum of little articles people! I consider it pretty generous and smart of Fred to lay out a little bit of this and that for us to understand where he stands on issues. I feel I know more of his platform than I do of any of those guys who stood behind a podium at the debates.

I see no other conservative candidates taking the opportunity to do something as, dare I say....As townhall-like, such as this. It is a breath of fresh air.

He knows where most of his audience is, and it's right here. I consider it very savvy.

In the Day as Well
I think Fred Thompson's upcoming announcement will enervate a number of people. Once he gets rolling along as a viable candidate, I think you'll see some blue states nudging over to the red column. I think the attacks on Fred---he's inexperienced; he's lazy; he's to folksy; he has a young wife; he's just an actor---will increase at that time with great fervor and panic on the side of the left. They'll be afraid, very afraid.

Fred Thompson is no panacea for our Country's troubles, but he's a far sight better than anyone on the horizon now, no matter the party. He's down home, understands the common man, isn't beholdin' to special interests---except the common man---, won't kowtow to the Washington power brokers [who will go into decline], and he'll present a confident, no nonsense face to the World as he kicks a few butts.

I'm satisfied in his candidacy---even though it isn't official yet. And I rather look forward to his buttering the buns of the opposition in the Republican primaries, and grinding underfoot the opposition in the Presidential battle. Am I too optimistic? I hope not.

And, I doubt that Fred's "slow, folksy, southern' manner is going to be a turnoff. Remember, in his years leading up to the Presidency, ole Honest Abe was considered a country bumpkin.

Watch out for candidates who go bumpkin in the night.

TNMcCOY
I hope you meant energize and not enervate. If his announcement enervates people he might as well stop before he gets started.

Tap

SteveL: Yes, he can win
Fred's the anti-RINO. Bush-feathers won't fall on him.

Giuliani is the definitive RINO. His support with Thompson in the race will fall faster than a lead balloon.

McVain's already aimed at his foot and hit himself in the head.

Romney's a serious contender, and would make a good VEEP.

Your contention that America's a RINO country is demonstrably false. Witnmess Reagan's two landslides and the 1994 taking of Congress by Newt and the Contract with America.

Res ipsa loquitur.

Thompson before Giuliani - Romney
"Watch out for candidates who go bumpkin in the night."

I had to laugh on this line. It's down to earth, and yes there are a lot of down to earth people in places like Ohio, etc. If Thompson stays with one line of thought, and comes across as honest and smart, he could blow miss Horrible out of her bath water.

Does Horrible have any idea who to pick for V.P.?

By the way, one serious problem we have is that the voter porcentages of right versus left or freedom versus "just give me a hand out" (handup they call it), has slowly changed, year by year.

This is obviously one of the more serious problems with the AMNESTY, as has been said 1,000 times. But it is real. It's just why the schools have been under attack by the left for so many years. They started in the universities and teachers colleges. That gave them the captains to brain wash our children; not always successful, but it got them a lot more lefties. "Can't we all just get along?".

I remember back about 1999, reading in the Orlando Sentinel, that Doctor Spock had come around. As I remember the quote, it was, "I never would have written that book and screwed up so many families if I had known how their kids would turn out". Better late than never, but I wonder if the lefties, who are mostly middle class stupids, will ever learn?? Semper Fi

Finally
Finally Fred gets off his kiester and enters. Now we can stop slathering him with all our hopes and dreams and seriously evaluate his ability to:

1. Win the general election against an incredibly organized Clinton machine

2. Articulate conservative principles to independants sitting on the fence. No, we *cannot* win the general without independants, especially in blue-trending key states.

3. Appeal to women who will trend toward Hillary in the ballot box.

4. Effectively prepare America's military to deal with the threat of radical Islam. And mobilize support for that effort at home (Bush's greatest failing as a president - outside of possibly illegal immigration).

5. Effectively prepare America's economy to compete with the growing presence of China and India.

Fred might be able to do all that. He might.

But I know Romney can.

Fred Thompson
As I said on your radio show Wednesday, Fred is a great communicator with the ability to inspire. I have great confidence in his ability to lead this country; however, understanding the current tenor of political campaigning and the nature of his potential opponents (Hillary and Obama), I believe they would use his illness as a catalyst to create a sense of fear amongst voters, because they will have a difficult time discrediting him based on his service.

Coalition forming
Right here on this thread. It is great to see. I would advise Mr. Hewitt to stop calling for the second tier candidates to go home. I would like to hear what they have to say and hopefully get the nominee to cherry pick their ideas for himself. There's nothing wrong with a little friendly borrowning amongst friends. The more they speak, the more we learn. And the more they're stumping against one another the sharper they get for the big show without having to endure the fireworks that the big show will shoot at them.
Also, if they can campaign in a manner that is deadly serious without trying to wound and kill each other it may be easier for the necessary coalescence to form.
I sense that we're hyper to pick our candidate and form ranks against our opponent. The time will come when we need a firm coalescence. It's still too early. November would be more like it. Vett the whole field for our benefit.

Never Giuliani
We no longer elect just the man, we get his wife too, as witness the revolting Bill and Hill. One divorce today isn't a deal-breaker; but moving your latest mistress into Gracie Mansion while your wife and kids still live there shows an immorality I won't accept. He then married the tramp and I will NOT vote for her as First Lady!

And though I respect Gingrich's mind, experience and devotion to the country, would that he had shown the same devotion to a previous wife. Wasn't it Truman who said that if a man couldn't be faithful to his wife, you couldn't trust him in office. Again, no way would I put the present Gingrich wife in the White House.

Thompson, on the other hand, had one wife and divorce 30 years ago, was single for years, and appears to now have a stable, though young, family. How about Fred for POTUS and Hunter as VP?

Marcita
Agreed - let's all get behind Fred! He could beat whomever the Dems decide to put up.

RUN, FRED, RUN!

Briefly on Fred
I heard a Fred Thompson speech many months ago before there had been a whisper of his running for president. The main thing I remember was thinking, "I wish he would run for president". I think he was making a case for the rational of the war in Iraq, maybe with additional topics.

I know Reagan was referred to as "The Great Communicator". Listening to Thompson was even better I thought. He was straight-forward, clear, firm but not obnoxious or arrogant. (Though, as I was not a firm Reaganite how Thompson compares doesn't mean much to my evaluation.)

Whether Thompson will hold up under closer scrutiny we will find out. If he does then the nomination and hopefully the presidency will be his.

Concerning Mariska Hargitay, it's rumored she will be appointed Attorney General. Furthermore, some have said her "fight in the eye" will make people beg to have John Ashcroft back.

Maybe
Thompson could pull for a win in the end for the Republican party. Hewitt makes good points bringing up the connection between Reagen and Thompson, but that was in the time where there was no internet, no blogs, no media that literally tracked everyones moves. The Democrats are split up between Hillary and Obama, much like they were in the 2004 elections.

The similarities brought up between Reagen and Thompson are coincidental. Being conservative, Republicans ruling from California is all they have in common, with their backgrounds being different.

Immigration bill
Whether the main argument is between the republicans or democrats, the debates should be highly scrutinized regarding the bills the candidates have in mind. For example, immigration reform has been a heated topic recently and has been controversial amongst the two parties. "This is one of the most contentious, complex, emotional issues of our time and no one is going to get 100% of what they want," said Sen. Jon Kyl. The fact that this bipartisan bill is at play here, allows for us not to concentrate wholly on whether or not we should vote for the democrat or the republican candidate, but instead vote for the one who carries out the best reform plans.

Fred Thompson
Thompson along with the other top 3-4 candidates on the republican side make the democrat field look like a bunch of light weights.

I think Both Romney and Thompson get more likable the more you hear and see them. Guliani and to a higher degree McCain become less likable.

Republican debate should be about which candidate will cut taxes the most, will take hardest line against outside international threats of all types, reform tax code, fix social security (privatize).

Arguing on immigration, Environment, Universal Heath Care, Stem Cell etc is a monumental waste of time and just what the dems want.

Immigration is a prime example of Democrats keeping an issue in the news that gets people all worked up and allows the Dems to appear as nice and generous while Republicans are bad guys. The Dems goal is to get the 14% of hispanics to either stay away from polls or go against republicans.

The Republican nominee should make Enforcing the Law, Cutting taxes, and protecting America from hostiles his platform.
