Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Like most Americans, I have been challenged recently to make sense of a great number of speeches given by politicians, political appointees, and media pundits. We are in an era in which many of our community leaders desire to rewrite or redefine history, while selling us philosophies and theories instead of proven solutions to our pressing problems. As an English major and a student of public speaking, I have been shocked by how poorly our greatest leaders have used the opportunities they have had to speak to the nation.

This week there were two important speeches that were distinct opposites. The first was President Obama’s economic speech on Tuesday and the second was Rush Limbaugh’s Saturday speech at the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC). These two speeches seemed to be polar opposites. The President should get an A+ on style, but a C- on substance. While Rush Limbaugh followed a brash politically incorrect approach to his speech, it should be graded a C- on style but an A+ on substance.

The president’s financial message finally struck a nerve with average Americans listening from their living rooms. It seemed to me that “President Barack was Back!” As he addressed the Congress and Senate, he showed his ability to move an audience, showcase outstanding Americans, and seemingly speak from his heart to the issues of the day.

After the speech, the polls showed that it was a hit in terms of style, force, and building confidence. Anthony Salvanto, who directs surveys for CBS, spoke about the president’s address: “Before the speech, 71 percent said they were optimistic about the next four years with Barack Obama as president, and that went up to 80 percent after they tuned into the speech.” Unfortunately for the nation, business leaders and the financial markets did not grade the president on style; they looked for content and fiscal responsibility that could be “sold” to business leaders around the world. In the absence of an encouraging fiscal blueprint from the president and his economic advisors, the stock market and business leaders continued to make plans to weather the biggest recession the nation has seen in over 60 years.

Economists are waiting to hear the figures as to how many jobs we have lost in February. An official report will be posted by Friday but many researchers feel as though the Obama speech was too little, too late. In the minds of leading economists, his positive remarks about the economy were focused on the wrong audience. Managers, who undoubtedly wanted to delay layoffs, received nothing of substance upon which to hang their hats. Leading economists, like those who write for Barclays Capital, say that next week’s job report is “likely to be the weakest to date.” They expect payroll losses of 675,000 and an unemployment rate of 8%. Global Insight's Bethune and Gault are predicting payroll losses of 750,000 and an employment rate of 8% - making “February … the worst month yet.”

Stephen Stanley, chief economist for RBS Greenwich Capital had a slightly less, dire view he assumes a jobs loss of only 625,000. Yet his prediction is based only on gut feelings. In fact he writes, “Our sense, admittedly based mostly on anecdotes, is that labor market conditions remain dismal but are not necessarily accelerating to the downside.”

Where does all of this leave the president, his speech writers, and the American people?

It seems that the savviest of our business community still feel as though there is an anti-business tone in the president’s public addresses. They believe that the trillions of dollars of expenditures planned in the stimulus package will probably take a long time to bring positive change. In the meantime, businesses and business owners will be blamed for our problems.

Moving on to Rush Limbaugh, I had the privilege of reading his speech in its entirety and watching most of its salient clips. Naturally, there were many excerpts taken out of context and played on what Rush would call “the drive by” media. Rush is not my favorite broadcaster. Even though, I am a conservative, I prefer to listen to the Fox News team instead of Mr. Limbaugh. Although he frequently resorts to meaningless name-calling and endless stereotyping of liberals, his speech’s content should be graded as an A+. But he seemed to purposely leave himself open to criticism from his detractors because of the style of his presentation. Despite his polarizing comments about hoping President Obama fails, he made it clear by the end of the speech that he was opposed to the new president’s stimulus package for many clear reasons including the following three:

1. unnecessary growth in government,
2. disincentives for small businesses,
3. the ratcheting up of “class warfare” rhetoric.

In addition to these points, Limbaugh talked about what bi-partisanship should mean to conservatives and how they should wage a war of principled public awareness. I felt personally encouraged by Limbaugh’s speech. I will keep on presenting my conservative views with boldness during these trying times, because there is a war for the soul of the nation, which continues to rage.

In conclusion, while the president’s speech won style points last week, Rush’s speech won points on substance. After Rush’s inspiring words, I believe more than ever before that America has a bright future, which will be built by the hard work and ingenuity of great Americans from every ethnic group, financial background, and social class.

Joycey very keen insight, Rush the great
Rush is worth listening to because he is not afraid to call a spade a spade. Rush expresses his true feelings because he doesn't care if he wins friends or not! The weak lib/Dems resent the truth speaker telling on them and would if they could, shut his words of wisdom down!
Ex Democrat

GOOD point.
Jackson makes a great point:

Sure, Rush's speech was an A+ on substance. Sure, he was right about many, many things. But, with his polarizing rhetoric, while understandable, does nothing to further his cause. People opposed to Rush will just become even more opposed to Rush. They'll focus on the rhetoric and be unable to see the logic.

I firmly believe that his detractors would have taken Rush's speech and found SOMEthing negative to waste our time with in the media; but, Rush should still TRY to preach to everyone.... not just the choir.

Constitution quotes What an idiot!
Rush needs to learn the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution next time before he tells everyone right to life, liberty, and persuant of hapiness or constitutional rights. Time for me to become an Independant the Republican Party has two want-a-be leaders that are babbling idiots.

What idiot would ever apologize to Rush? I am stuck with Obama, Polosi, Reid, Rush, and Steele (spineless. Time to jump ship create a new party without all these stupid losers.

Be Ye All Seady!!!!!!!
It is extremely important that we be steady and listen in all that we do. This is especially important in our politics. Implementing policy, ideas and responses(whether oral or written) before we truly understand what we are responding to shows not only a true lack of wisdom but also breeds confusion and more aggressive confrontation. Some of mankinds worst mistakes have been the result of poor understanding. This is why substance will always trump style.

Rush's Speech
Rev. Jackson,
I enjoy your comments very much. The things
we have in common in America so out-weigh the
problems, but we are focused on created problems
and leftist rhetoric. Most conservatives are
pro-God, pro-family, pro-America (as designed),
pro-Constitution, pro-free enterprise, pro-freedom with responsibility. We need to
challenge each other to protect these common
good treasures.

2012 election
Roy---you are probably right that a 3rd party candidate or Repub would not be elected in 2012----after seeing this past election it is clear to me it was the best election money could buy----650,000,000 vs 89,000,000---go figure!!!!!talk about some of these bananna republics and the rigged elections---they ain't got nothing on the USA!!!!!!!!!! The big O agreed to the terms of the Feingold/McCain election campaign donation guidelines---then backs out---that should have been the first red flag!!

And yet
"Thanks Bishop Jackson
I'll take substance over style anytime. Our founders clearly understood that power should NOT be in the hands of an elite few. One thing Mr. Limbaugh clearly understands. One thing our new President doesn't!"

And yet all sorts of interesting memos are coming out of the Justice Department revealing the Bush administration's belief that George Bush had unconstitutional and dictatorial power in time of an undeclared war!

Chloe...
The reason we see so many pictures of Obama is the same reason Germans saw so many pictures of Hitler, Russians saw so many pictures of Stalin. The same can be said for Italy and Mussolini, China and Mao,Cuba and Castro, Venezuala and Chavez. Give Obama a chance; he just got started.

Rush
Limbaugh is not, nor does he want to be the leader of the republican party. The notion is absurd. Obama sure does have a way of reducing the stature of his office, and making himself look like a petty fool- not only to America, but to the world. What an idiot.

Thanks Bishop Jackson
I'll take substance over style anytime. Our founders clearly understood that power should NOT be in the hands of an elite few. One thing Mr. Limbaugh clearly understands. One thing our new President doesn't!

Caution to Conservatives
Don't crown Rush the Conservative King yet. Are we all so eager for a leader that we will rush (no pun intended) to choose the first one that stands out? Do we have to have a messiah too?

The problem isn't that we don't have a leader. The problem is that we have SO MANY capable voices and leaders. Time will identify the strongest (as long as we don't let the media do it like they did with McCain). In the mean time, I am enjoying seeing how many articulate and principled spokespersons there are for the conservative cause. And I am supporting Michael Steele in his effort to get the train all moving in the same direction again.

I am not really a "fan" of Rush Limbaugh, but I saw the speech at the Omni Shorham on Saturday and it was electric! Outta the park! The TV coverage doesn't do it justice.

Chloe, talk radio
will not go away anytime soon. You and your leftist, Marxist, socialist, or politically naive go-gooder Fellow Travelers control the mainstream media; conservatives will seek alternatives. Don't like it? Turn it off. That's what you tell us about the porn and smut that the Left has promoted for decades.
By the way, you say you read the WSJ at the office. Must be a frenetic pace there. But I digress. When Obama succeeds in driving a silver stake through the heart of capitalism, and your company pulls down the shades and shutters the doors, maybe you'll finally see the light. (dimly, because electricity will be quite expensive.)

CHLOE-Talk radio
will not go away anytime soon. You and your leftist, Marxist, socialist, or politically naive go-gooder Fellow Travelers control the mainstream media; conservatives will seek alternatives. Don't like it? Turn it off. That's what you tell us about the porn and smut that the Left has promoted for decades.

When Obama succeeds in driving a silver stake through the heart of capitalism, and your company pulls down the shades and shutters the doors, maybe you'll finally see the light. (dimly, because electricity will be quite expensive.)

Main street pulling out of market
is main reason for market's decline. Novice, skittish investors. Perhaps they should not be in the market.

Obama won. Really pisses some of you off. If Rush is so powerful and all wonderful, why are we seeing the picture of President Barack Obama at every federal building.

Delusionary
Georgann. Besides being a star-struck ninny, you are wrong on each of your points. Your interests ARE tied in with the stock market. Only a fool would separate Wall Street from Main Street and wish for Wall Street and U.S. financial markets to collapse. Why do you think the terrorists focused on Wall Street on 9/11? It is the heart of our economy.
In just a few months, Obama has scared off investors with his radical, far-reaching spending plans. If people do not invest in US companies, those companies cannot hire, expand, and thrive. They must have investors to survive.
As for Obama being a "wonderful man," I'll judge him by the company he keeps---radicals, racists, terrorists, Black Muslim anti-Semites, election-rigging thugs and Chicago crooks. He had not ONE associate who could stand on the platform with him when he campaigned. They all scurried off like cockroaches when the light was shined on them.

Katepatate
USA Today and the Orange County register are hardly liberal papers. Nor is the WSJ, which I try to read at the office. Perhaps you are like your dear Sarah, you read 'everything' but are unable to name even one publication.

and talk radio will go away as people see the talking heads there have no substance or possible remedies for the problems that face us (other than decrease taxes for the rich and encourage companies to take jobs out of the country without penalty). As more and more people see that talk radio consists primarily of rants from rabble rousers, the numbers will decrease. Rush and others may stay...they are so rich from playing you (heck you buy every product they sell...without talk radio, annie Coulter would never sell a book...Pavlov was so right...)
Obama doesn't have the power or the inclination to destroy talk radio. He's just got a far bigger base than Rush does. And if your GOP 'leaders' suck up to Rush, the GOP becomes Rush, leader of 20 million people. That and 99 cents will get you a supersized bag of pretzels at the convenience store.

Anderson659
You quoted Karl Marx as saying "Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalized, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism.”

That is what President Obama inherited. Seems to me that the most damage was done under Bush. Are you saying that Bush was the socialist?

Misplaced civility
While I still thing of Bishop Jackson is a member of our "team", I must confess disappointment in his unduly high regard for civility in dealing with those who seek nothing more than power over their neighbors behavior and property, and nothing less than the destruction of what little remains of our liberty... our nation.

Obama - Stop apologizing for me and my fellow Americans to our enemies via el Arabiya TV.

Jackson - Stop apologizing for Rush's unvarnished truth to our enemies in the liberal media, white house, Hollywood, academia, and congress. Pretending they make sense, in the interests of civility, is counterproductive.

STOP APOLOGIZING FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH!!

SNAP OUT OF IT!!

These folks are out to destroy us. Don't be fooled by the cheesy smiles on their faces and their "good intentions" excuses.

STOP ENABLING THEM!!

They are for political power over their neighbors.

We are for liberty.

The difference couldn't be more stark. Stop pretending that they have a case. They do not!

Tim
Shedding light on pedophilia is not bashing.

Perhaps you would be fine with just the shuffling of those miscreants?

Catholic Bashing Zippidy Doo Dah !

Hey Hypocrite,What have you done in your own Public School System ?

Almost one-third of females and nearly one in 10 male high school students in Massachusetts say they have experienced sexual abuse.
Students from 58 randomly selected Massachusetts public high schools participated in the survey.

death to our country by cowards
democrats are so closed in mind and so eager for power that truth slides off their backs like water off a duck , they can not show what the great leader has done at any time in his life for our country , It has been for obama and no one else , now he is in power and is going to destroy and weaken the USA , open the borders and allow all who will kill and destroy this nations inner workings [ muslims ] "his people" by his own words in his book , I will stand by the muslims when the going gets bad and he is heading us in that direction a hell a rippin , with stupid people in support , they will be the ones whinning at the doors of the patriots, wanting to be saved from obamas "people" people who are paid to vote for you will not stand behind you when the chips are down , remember that DEMOCRATS

scottk
never said i was a moderate. i used to be. but i saw a long time ago what was going on. i guess i was pushed left by dubya. i told folks back in '99 that this guy was bad news. all you had to do was look at his record. when he was a minority owner of the texas rangers they wanted a new stadium. so they created an authority to come up with the money, power of eminent domain etc. well when the folks who owned the land they wanted to build on didn't want to sell, they used that authority to exercise the eminent domain and take it. well the owners sued because they didn't get what they wanted for the land. bush and the other owners lost. they owed millions of dollars. well bush's lawyer comes up with this argument that the judgement wasn't against them but against the sports authority. so guess who paid the judgement? thats right the taxpayers. so bush's initial investment of 600,000 turns into 15 million. all compliments of the taxpayers. the rest is history lol.

Harry R. Jackson, Jr.?
Why is this guy on Townhall.com? He's a Obama apologists and, because he's black, just can't bring himself to say anything negative about Obama...pathetic! C-?? There was NO substance. To even compare the two speeches is wrong. Obama's was a speech to the Country...Rush's was a conversation with people of like mind...

Rush has history backing him
Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalized, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism.”

— Karl Marx, 1867, Das Kapital

"First" -- and last
Yup, you guys are in BIG trouble. Your party leader licked the boot of a radio host today because he looked down the pipeline and saw... a Palin and a Jindal.

So Rush Fonda is the King of your party?

Good. Run him.

Tell him to put the creampies down, put him on a treadmill and, come 2012, why don't He and y'all show us just what kind of Lord He really is.

Yeah -- thought so. Rez non verba sycophants. Rez non verba.

Pass the Aspirin!
Whenever I hear clips of Obama's speeches,I'm afraid all that double-talk will make my head explode! I knew all I needed to know about this traitor before the election, and nothing he says means a damn thing. His actions speak for themselves.Frankly,I do not hear what others claim as "soaring rhetoric".He sounds robotic, which is no wonder, considering he is just a prop for the "central powers" that put him in place.

"and titular Cardinal Priest of Santa Susanna, the American Catholic church in Rome."

"He resigned 7 years ago and is at Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore."

Resigned and got promoted. Are you into the same thing?

"In 1987, after at least 23 years of child molesting by Father Joseph Birmingham during which time he was shuffled to various parishes, the mother of an altar boy at St. Anns wrote to Law asking if Birmingham had a history of molesting children. Cardinal Law wrote back "I contacted Father Birmingham. ... He assured me there is absolutely no factual basis to your concern regarding your son and him. From my knowledge of Father Birmingham and my relationship with him, I feel he would tell me the truth and I believe he is speaking the truth in this matter."

How do you hide your complicity?

Tim
"He resigned 7 years ago and is at Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore."

Great, you hide the malfeasance of pedophilia-enablers. Keep up God's work! Ooorah, next time you whine about Wright's rambling, think, to yourself, which is worse, someone shooting his mouth off, or a Catholic priest committing yet another act of sodomy against the innocent children of his own parish.

Zippidy Doo Dah !

Do you know what the American Public School System is doing to stop the ongoing rampant sexual abuse in their system?

What?

I know where Law was sent and who he is.He resigned 7 years ago and is at Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.

Now,you tell Th'ers where all The Public School Teachers, who had Sex with their students Are ? Hmmmm ?

The money losing Boston Globe covered the story years ago ,while ignoring ongoing sexual abuse in The American Public School System.

Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh never did anything to put my children, their children, their children's children in debt.

Barack Obama has.

Tim
Speaking of fixes, how about if the Catholic church hierarchy shuffles a priest to another parish?

Did you know that Cardinal Bernard Law, a shuffler of pedophile priests got promoted to the Vatican?

And sure, these priests and their appeasers/appendages/shufflers didn't preach it, but if you shuffle a pedophile priest onto another unsuspecting parish, are you not condoning pedophilia?

Those who knew and transferred pedophiles should be in jail, not get promotions.

Once again, do you know who Cardinal Bernard Law is? And where is he now?

Zippidy Doo Dah !

When you,Zippidy can't address The Financial Crisis causes and answer the presented facts, you go off on a loose cannon attempt to shift the discussion.

You are becoming even more of a blathering Smoke Blower !

Yeah, R29
You are so clever! You are correct, in one sense, though. Rush Limbaugh certainly IS a heavyweight in a sea of liberal and leftist mental flyweights. Now that the Obama regime is rapidly losing support and credibility among thinking Americans, it is good to have a positive influence like Rush pointing us back toward the right path. Right, quite right, he's bloody well right!

chloe
no one is getting anything 'for free'
If someone is out of work, how are they contributing to the economy? But if you give them a job to build a road, they will add to the economy. That's how trickle up
works.
==================
God save us from nitwits.

Limbaugh Trumps Steele as well
Although Muchael Steele is still the titular head of the GOP, his apology today to Rush after his earlier criticism means that he was really not fit to lead the GOP in the first place.

Rush is the real power of the party and by apologizing and handing over the reins to Rush, he moves himself to the back of the bus where he apparently feels more comfortable. Although it would have been nice to see his talents and skills leading the party, its simply not to be. Darwin's principle of survival of the fittest applies here and in the natural world. Those who are weak or timid simply cannot survive as leaders in the world of politics.

It will be interesting to see if Rush is up to the task and can galvanize support and rebuild the GOP which has broken down over the years into a party of compromises, hypocracy, and two faced politicians(like Mccain and Romney) who sell out their own constituents and fail to follow basic Conservative principles.

tim
"was further extended by The Democrats Threatened Filibuster."

Ah.....the dreaded filibuster. Do you rally believe that bunk?

Many Republicans like to say that the Democrats cut defense spending in the first two years of 'Bubba' Clinton's presidency, just before Newt Gingrich became Speaker of the House.

The 103rd United States Senate had 56 Democrats and 44 Republicans. It met in Washington, DC from January 3, 1993 to January 3, 1995, during the first two years of the first administration of U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Was it filibuster proof? The answer is NO!

As many good conservatives on this web site have noted, the Bush Administration and the Republican-controlled Congress from 2001-2007 were not able to pass any "Drill here, drill now" legislation because the Demoncrats always filibustered it. Point, well made!

If those deep defense cuts happened in 'Bubba' Clinton's first two years, how come the Republican senate, with 44 senators didn't filibuster those deep defense cuts? Did the Democrats from 2001-2007 care more about the sea turtle off of the coast of Florida than the Gingrich Republicans care about National Security? Can someone explain this?

In fact, those deep defense cuts happened under Newt Gingrich Speaker-ship and the Republican-controlled Congress passed the Base Realignment and Closure (or BRAC) Act in November of 1995.

Again, these contemptible Republicans put this nation in grave danger.

If these odious and contemptible Republicans lie about things like the 'Clinton Administration Defense Cuts', then what will they not lie about?

Over Here Mr.Zippidy Doo Dah !
Ya still Unemployed after 5 years,Ya Bum ?

We hear they're still lookin' for a security guy to replace the poor flattened soul at The Walmart in Long Island

This Financial Crisis began with The Carter Administration's Community Reinvestment Act of '77 forcing Banks to write Mortgage Paper in Redline Turf, was eaggravated by The '95 Clinton Administration Revisions to The CRA orchestrated by then Clinton Economic Advisor Robert Rubin and Then Treasury Sedretary Lloyd Bentsen, which allowed The Securitization of Sub prime B Paper and worse, was further extended by The Democrats Threatened Filibuster of The 2005 Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act,which Obama refused to Co-Sponsor and The Bill was Killed In Committee,Then further extended when The House Financial Services Conmmittee Chaired by Bawney Fwank and The Senate Banking Committee Chaired by Chris Dodd ignored repeated warnings by the Bush Administration to Reform FNMA and FHLMC,17 times in 2008 alone.

Get A Job !

Libs having fun for...for now
Limbaugh has about 20 million more listeners everyday than do his liberal puke competition, however, the Socialist Party (Dem) captured the hearts of the less intelligent free-loading voters. Thank goodness I am not in need of a job or money. Pay higher taxes you low income, lower class majority...I'll keep buying homes and renting them to low skilled, low income, liberal democrats. I love taking your money and acting concerned with your victim mentality.

Hey has anybody
told that rocket scientist Limbaugh that it's the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution that says, "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness"?!?! And I know Rush included the word "freedom" in that phrase, but if you look at the actual D of I, you won't see it.

I certainly hope Rush's lack of familiarity with the country's most important political documents isn't symptomatic of other things he confuses!

And he criticizes Obama for using a teleprompter!

Roy, 6:08 PM post.

I'm so truly sorry you don't get it.

And I was typing slowly... just for you.

But then again, you are not a moderate.

Correction
"Too many could stomach that betrayal and voted Libertarian or some other less known choice."

SB "Too many could NOT stomach that betrayal and voted Libertarian or some other less known choice."

Mod Mark
I was just sitting here thinking about some of the things you have written here and I have come to the conclusion you are a liberal. Why? You think anyone opposing Chloe is attacking her. That is a true liberal ruse. We are attacking her ideas and philosophy. She is a flaming liberal and her ideolgy must be stopped.

roy
"your only hope is a moderate, centrist republican in a national election and since rush won't support any of those you're going to get a far right winger who obama will stomp in 2012."

Roy, we had a moderate centrist in John McCain. He was so centrist that he was thought of as 65% for Bush and his policies. (Hell, there were some Democrats that scored higher.) I Know for a fact the his choice of Palin brought some people back to his camp if only for the hope that he would have a heart attack at his inauguration and Palin would step in as president. He nailed shut his own coffin when he took time off from the campaign to vote FOR the Bush bailout.

Had he only the nuts to stand up for conservative principle and vote against that POS legistlation, he would have forever distanced himself from Bush and probably won the election. Too many could stomach that betrayal and voted Libertarian or some other less known choice.

Chloe all those papers you read
Of course they rarely disagree. They are all liberal!!!! You really are a mind numbed robot.

Mod Mark
You are the Arlen Specter of Townhall. Walk across the aisle to agree with the opposing side. You are the kind that is destroying the Republican party. It is no longer a conservative party. I wonder about yourself.

!ATTACKS! Mod Mard
Chloe is being treated with respect for the most part. She can come on here all she wants, but don't expect us to be welcoming to her ideas. They are all wrong. I will not encourage willful stupidity.

Great column Mr. Jackson
Wouldn't it be great to see a Rush Limbaugh Barack Obama debate? Rush would devour the little one. After Rush goes over and destroys Obama's teleprompter he will have complete control because without it Obama becomes a stuttering idiot.

Too Bad
According to Rasmussen, Republican membership is up 1 full percentage point. Obama's approval has dropped over 20 points. He emphasized building roads, etc., yet the bill only contains about 5% for such efforts, while the vast majority is some type of welfare. The 3 areas where no job losses have occurred...Education, Government and Health Care and, guess what, there's where the spending goes. There is nothing for small business, unless you include the bridge (over the creek) that Biden said they would build.

What happens when the stimulus runs out? When the few bridges have been built? Investment stimulates the economy and people are scared of Obama's next step and as long as he keeps running in all directions, flinging money around, it will remain that way. The govt. is simply creating another bubble to burst.

Obama is attacking success and rewarding failure. That doesn't incentivize anyone. People who take the risks and make the investments may just decide they don't want to play anymore. There are around 4-5 million people who are paying 60% of all income taxes and that's not enough for the socialists, even though in 1980, that group only paid 35%.

I watch with mild amusement at the demonizing of Rush Limbaugh, a man with a bigger audience than all 3 networks combined. Liberals have tried and fail repeatedly to launch their own version of Limbaugh, with no success. It's strange that the White House would focus on a talk show host.

For all the things I disagreed with Bush about, when it came to attacks on him he had class. His only reference to them were "That's what makes this country great, people have the freedom to express their opinion." The left could take a clue and stop whining about a talk show host and that Republicans won't play in the sandbox with them. Conservatives are more than willing to let the left have all the "glory" along with the unintendeded consequences.

RUSH DELIVERS FIRST TELEVISION ADDRESS
THANKS TO THE ARROGANCE OF PRESIDENT OBAMA, AND THE THREAT OF FORCING RUSH TO CHANGE HIS RADIO FORMAT, THE CABLE NETWORKS CARRIED A RUSH SPEAK LIVE, AND CONTINUE TO AIR IT. RUSH IS STIMULATING THE ECONOMY, AS HE HAS BEEN DOING SINCE 1989, THE YEAR BUSH 41 BECAME PRESIDENT, OBAMA SUPPORTERS NEED TO GO BACK AND LISTEN TO VINTAGE RUSH ATTACK NOT ONLY 41 BUT DEFEATED CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICAN SEAT LOSERS AS THEY CALLED THEMSELVES.

Quite frankly Chloe
I believe that most who voted for Obama did not have any idea who the man was, what he stood for or what was to come under him. Many voted for him only because he would be the first black president. Many voted for him because he was new and "good looking." I have yet to see where they get that but that is beside the point. In other words, many who voted for Obama did not know their a@# from a hole in the ground. Oh, and maybe it helped that the media was in the tank for him. Townhallers go to "How Obama got Elected" to find out just how outrageous the likes of CNN, ABC,CBS and yes, Chloe's fav NYT were in getting this empty suit in the White House. By the way, Chloe, dear. How many poor people did you stay with while in the Netherlands?

Carlos
"Get with it dude. BDS is so yesterday."

Yeah...so who was responsible for 9-11?

Chloe lives in a dream world.
You really think conservative talk radio is going away? Only if Obama destroys it and he will try because he hates descenting voices. He can only tolerate those who bow at his feet. I remember well the first day I heard Rush. I felt that no one spoke for me anymore. Then I heard this voice on radio saying exactly what I had been thinking for a long time. I began to listen and knew I had found someone I could understand and felt the same as I. Rush will be around long after Obama is just a figment of our imaginations. A bad figment, but a figment.

roy... What's a "Bush"?

This is Obamanation Baby!

The land of Milk and Morphine.

Get with it dude. BDS is so yesterday.

"The Economic Imbecile!"

On Monday, the Treasury Department unveiled yet another plan to support struggling insurer AIG (AIG, Fortune 500), which posted a 2008 loss of $99 billion.

Eight years of Republican administration malfeasance coming to fruition. Twelve of the last 14 years with Speaker of the House being a Republican coming to fruition.

If you want to look at an imbecile, then take a good look at a card-carrying member of the Republican party and go take a good look at a mirror.

And for the absolute last time, please stop pestering me about 'Hussein's' birth certificate!

The fact is, President Hussein doesn't produce a legal US birth certificate in order to keep the 'moron-brigade' distracted.

I heard you got a promotion in the brigade. Keep up the good work!

LOL
I lived in the Netherlands for a month, and in Italy for a while as well. Wonderful visits staying with family. Yes, the middle class in EU lives far simpler than we do, but the poor do not live as badly as many of our poor do. The comic strip version of poverty you seem to have is quite unlike the reality of being a poor family in many American cities.

Kate--your source for your post?
Do you read the NY Times every day? How do you know (this means I would like you to provide me with some source data that supports your position, not a blog or Rush's comments) that the NY Times '...has been proven to be a rag full of lies and innuendoes for a long time."
How frequently? What lies? What innuendo?
How do you know that their news pages '...will write anything that makes America look bad."
Again, actual proof.

I do read 'other papers', from USA Today, to the LA Times, Orange County Register, LA Daily News...they rarely disagree on what the news is. What the spin on their editorial pages may be does differ...but those are opinions, not news.

What 'liberal lies'? Barack Obama? You mean the man that 53+% of the American electorate voted for? You think that everyone has been deceived? Surely you can disagree with someone on ideological grounds without having to call him some kind of deception?

Are the poor people in Canada, Japan and the EU poorer than American poor people or not? Have you read the source materials for the NYTimes article? Oh, that comes from a Berkeley Econ professor, and we can't have a Berkeley leftie's research can we? Where is your college degree from? Your grad degree?

Mod Mark
Oh that liberal websites were as kind to conservatives. The vileness toward conservatives there is outrageous. You and Chloe are treated kindly in comparison.

Oh, Chloe, dear Chloe
Obama doesn't play you? You are like a stradivarius in his hands.

Chloe, you still cant be serious...
Many of our 'poor' live multi- bedroom apartments, rent assisted/ paid by taxpayers (Section 8), they have air conditioning, cellphones, color tv's, refrigerators full of food (assisted/ paid for by taxpayers- food stamps), etc, etc, etc...
By contrast, the middle class in much of Europe live in smaller apartments and homes, have fewer bathrooms, fewer appliances, etc than our poor do...Go travel in Europe sometime. You'll have a wonderful time, and you'll get a whole new perspective on how good we really have it here...

Excuse me, Chloe
Pardon me if I do not take the NYT as a source for anything. It has been proven to be a rag full of lies and innuendoes for a long time. They will write anything that makes America look bad. You need to read some other papers and listen to some on the right instead of filling your brain with liberal bilge. I cannot get away from liberal lies. They are everywhere but thankfully I have the discernment to know what is a lie and what is truth. It is still true, if you believe in nothing you will fall for anything and you, dear Chloe have fallen for the biggest lie ever perpetrated on mankind, Barack Obama.

sean
"Yeah, right, Bubba was a military hawk."

Where was Newt and the Republican party?

sigh
Yes, this is all the fault of welfare cheats, illegal aliens and Dems. LOL. But sad too, that so many of you listen to someone that even the head of the GOP thinks speaks in terms that are ugly and incendiary. And then that same GOP head has his nuts cut off when he has to apologize to Rush.

Rush always reminds me of the Wizard of Oz... "pay no attention to the man behind that curtain."

Rush is the traitor. He cares about himself. He plays you.

carlos
we've been doing that for years. what do you call paying sunni tribesman not to shoot at our troops in iraq? i call it welfare. bush calls it the sunni awakening lol. they didn't wake up until we started paying them though. i saw a documentary and they were showing an american gi that was passing out the welfare money to the sunnis. the american asked the dude " so you still want to kill me?" the guy looks at him and says "yes-just not today."

Chloe The Economic Imbecile !

What "WE " are in this together,Socialist.

What "WE" are gettin' Our Stock Portfolios,Our 401-K's or Pension Funds "Bailed Out " Moron ?

What "We" are gettin' $500 to #1000 Checks force confiscated from We Taxpaying Tax Filers to Parasite NON-Taxpaying Tax Filers in ObamaBoy's "Making Work Pay " Scam.

You're A Socialist Fool !

Yes, the poor in the USA
are poorer than they are in the EU, Japan and Canada. I know you won't accept the NYT as a source, but start here....http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F04EED81E30F936A25756C0A9639C8B63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1

"For overall poverty, the U.S. numbers (17.1 percent) for 2000 were significantly higher than for most European countries. France, Germany, and the United Kingdom had poverty rates of 7.0 percent, 9.8 percent, and 11.4 percent, respectively. Canada and Japan were lower than the United States, too, with a poverty rate of 10.3 percent and 15.3 percent, respectively. The organization average was just 10.2 percent.

For child poverty, the story was not much different. The U.S. rate (21.7 percent) was much higher than most members of the organization or the organization's average as a whole (12.1 percent). The Scandinavian nations had child poverty rates in the 2 to 3 percent range. "

Perhaps things have gotten better under Bush. I kind of doubt it, but if you have stats, share them.

The concept that American poor people have such a high standard of living is one of the right's most popular canards.

Tadpole... Don't forget

AIG and others operate in dozens of foreign countries. We are also bailing out millions of foreigners with this bail-out money, our money.

And that goofy President of ours now plans to bail-out Hamas terrorists?

Great... Welfare checks for killers.

Obamanation smells bad!

,Chloe you cannot be serious
The United States has people poorer than in other countries? Please tell me where. Our poor has a higher standard of living than some of the richest in other countries. Give me a break.

God bless Rush Limbaugh
Hurray! Someone is finally saying what the Republicans in congress should have been saying for years. We have watched our so-called party leaders bend to the Democrats' will too many times and we are sick of it. Someone had better come to lead the party soon because right now I do not see anyone except Sarah Palin and we know what will happen when she throws her hat in the ring. She is the only one with the balls right now. I hope Rush continues to hold the party's leaders feet to the fire and make them do what is right. He should not have to do this, but we have too many weenies who are afraid of the democrats for some reason. Michael Steele did not make any friends when he dissed Rush. I am not so sure he did not vote for Obama. I'm not sure he is the right guy for the job. We will see and we will be watching.

sean
You sound like a decent person. This isn't about partisanship. It is about fixing our problems. No one is lying to you or me. THe information is there for us all to see. You keep saying that taxing the top 2% of earners doesn't work. Well, not taxing them hasn't worked. That we know. The opposite is unknown. I'm game to try it, and I surely will be hurt by the new taxes. But I tell you...I have children who are facing an economy with 10% unemployment. My older child is due to graduate from grad school in June from a top tier university with top grades, great work experience, and he's likely to end up living at home again working retail (if he's lucky) until the job market gets better. If we start rebuilding the infrastructure, those folks have jobs, which creates service jobs, etc, generates taxes from all levels (not just income tax, sales, etc. taxes are important to communities too) and things will be funded again. My son researched his job and this one makes sense, once there is some kind of job stability.

The USA allows people to soar. It also has poor people who are poorer than in other countries. We need to perhaps consider avoiding all these extremes so the middle class here, as in the EU, can live stable, comfortable lives.

sean
its about time somebody encouraged class warfare. for the last 20 years only one side has been waging it. now we get some shots in lol.

roy
AIG would have been weeded out if the government would have left it alone.

The false charge that 'millions would be left without insurance' was a bunch of bull. I'm sure other companies would be happy to pick up those accounts.

Sean
we are not talking about Chris or Keith. They are not out there calling themselves the head of the GOP, are they? They are not the 'go to' guy, are they? They are commentators, pundits, talking heads. Rush cannot stand to be irrelevant, so he will insinuate himself into the fray. His philosophy is the old adage...I don't care what they say about me so long as they get the name right.

And now we have two people, Rahm Emanuel, and Barack Obama, who are willing to take on the titular head of the GOP. They will emasculate Steele so he turns on Rush too, as you can see is already happening. Rush helped defeat McCain by his conduct in 2008. Rush will soon be neutralized...I can guarantee you that sometime this year, the oxycontin, viagra, young girls in Dominican Republic rumors will somehow be vetted and brought to the front burner. Talk radio may die, but it will die because people will be so demoralized by their 'leaders', they will abandon it. Imagine a relatively moderate Republican who hears Rush say he wants Obama's plans to fail, which means the country will fail too. Laura Ingraham rants about single mommies, but she's one too, a rich one to be sure, but you can't rant about needing a mommy and a daddy and then not follow through. It is all good.

Blacks and Latinos not represented
in sufficient rations of those unemployed.

According to US Bureau of Labor Statistics;
In May 2007 when unemployment was 4.5%
Black - 8.5%
Latino - 5.8%

This while the population percentages are;
Black - 13.4%
Latino - 14.8%

This is an outrage - where's Jesse Jackson? We must correct this injustice immediately!

rush the king
ahhhhh steele has already backed down lol. he called rush to apologize lol. man these guys are total candy a**es. how you guys gonna win elections when the leader of the rnc has to call a disc jockey to apologize for offending him lol?

Chloe
Chloe, that doesn't even come close to accounting for the job loss. Shall we sing kumbaya on the steps of city hall? Obama is not acting like we are all in this together. He is encouraging class warfare.

See, Chloe, if we are to move past the partisan rancor both sides need to concede their part in it. So far, Republicans are "the party of no" because they disagree with what Obama has outlayed as his plan. One important element of this is who pays for it? I am middle class...answer...I do. Again, there is NO WAY this can be paid for by just taxing those who make more the 250k.

We are not all in this together because we are being lied to. Already the marriage tax break is being cut. That is only the first.

Obama is going for the "you will be assimilated" approach.

Tea Party
You have issues, dude.

As for Rush Limbaugh:

He is a liar, distorter, divisive, racist and he is destroying the Republican Party. People are fed up with him, Hannity and Coulter. They are such liars. Unaccountable cowards.

America has had enough.

So, the TH
dictators show up in the form of Summers and others who simply cannot allow any difference of thought here. Certainly no decent conversation. Michael Steele thinks Rush and this kind of anti-Obama talk, hoping Obama will fail, is "ugly" and "incendiary".

Watching the conservatives attack each other is so much fun. The beginning of the end.

And the 'end of talk radio'? Why would we want to stop the ugly and incendiary talk that is turning people off? Rush and Laura want you to think they are in trouble, but they just want to keep themselves relevant. Since they are fading fast (most people, folks, are not buying the Obama and Dems causing these problems routine. Nor are they buying the 'ok, Bush was a big spender, but he (and McCain) were not 'true conservatives'. Do you get it? GOP/RIP).

Chloe
I am not a big Rush fan either, but that doesn't mean he isn't right a lot of the time. I don't like his style, but his content is usually right.

You want to talk ugly, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews are ugly. If you don't agree with them or the democrats you are either retarded or a nazi.

tadpole
like those aig and bank executives that ran the companies into the ground then got raises and bonuses for it? yeah the free market sure weeded them out lol.

what Michael Steele thinks of Rush...
"Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh's whole thing is entertainment," Steele said. "Yes, it is incendiary. Yes, it is ugly."

roy
have you ever stopped to think that the top 5% today are not the same 5% that was there 5 years ago? or 10? or 20?

Sure, there's old money that remains, but why doesn't anybody talk about how the free market facilitates new 'members' to the top 5% while dropping those that have less success?

Oh yeah... now I remember - that doesn't win elections...

no one is getting anything 'for free'
If someone is out of work, how are they contributing to the economy? But if you give them a job to build a road, they will add to the economy. That's how trickle up
works.

We're all in this together. Stop worrying about who gets what 'for free' and keep your own path going.

tea party
you got representation. you don't like them vote em out. and i guess you liked those benedict arnold values huh?

Hey Tea, put the proof in the puddin'...
Before Rush eats it.

If he's so good -- then RUN 'IM in 2012.

We dare you.

Let's see what happens then.

j
and clinton had 22 million. just face it man dubya had a jobless recovery. his economic record is dismal to say the least. median family income dropped while the top 5 percent made out like bandits. this is the very definition of crony capitalism. well its all over now and not a moment too soon.

HEY TROLLS
I wanted O to fail ever since I first heard him and that was months before Rush was on Hannity.
I want him to take a nose dive right into that PigPoopPie he has foisted upon us. And I especially want him to fail because of his obssession with killing innocent, helpless babies by whatever torture method the butcher
chooses. And trust me, he will fail and I hope he sees his sins and repents, in just the few weeks he's been the pretender POTUS he's shaken his fist in God's face almost as many times as
Pharoah.
I heard all but the first 15 minutes of Rush becuase he was put on earlier than announced..
and I LOVED IT..I'd rather hear a down to earth
human being with a heart, than a cold hearted
stuttering zombie who doesn't have the talent people say he does..he reads someones script..that's no more talent than a drive by news anchor. RUSH showed talent when he went for 90 minutes speaking subtantively off the cuff. THAT m'dears is an orator..and he says it with a grin..not a psuedo serious frown.
Why else do the antifreedom traitors want to silence talk radio.

exrc
yeah but carter hardly inherited a good situation from ford. remember fords solution? wear win (whip inflation now) buttons lol.

Ya know
I've only scrolled thought about half of these posts, and I realized that each and every one of the trolls sang the same song, same verse, mocking tax cuts (I know talking points, not critical thinking skills needed).
We became an Independent nation because we demanded tax cuts..what do you morons think 'taxation without representation" meant.]
The Founders hated taxes as much as we do, and they didn't have half the corruption as we do and that's saying something considering that was a monarchy. I doubt even the Founders would have faced the monumental corruption, thievery, and viciousness that is the modern
Democrat Party. O has filled his whole administration with tax cheats, liar, thieves,
and baby killers..that is about the only transparent thing he's done..shown the world his
Al Capone values.
Peggy..Amen
Gerry, you aren't alone, there are more people than you know that are praying and interceding for this country, and it will build. I just rec'd information regarding a national prayer
day on Sept 11 this year. Cry Out America 2009 from Awakening America Alliance..I'm not sure of the web address. but it tells about how
thousands of Americans will join in prayer across the country at their county courthouses
not only to think about 9-11 but also to "cry out to God to send a Christ awakening in their
community and across the nation." Remember
"If My People will... 2 Chronicles 7:14.

scottk
I think your stats are incorrectly stated, plu s the type of jobs under carter were very low income. hardly something to tout.

http://www.house.gov/jec/growth/taxpol/taxpol.htm

Refers to the tax hikes during bush/clinton and the negative affect on job creation when compared to Reagan.

also:
-20 million new jobs were created during the Reagan presidency
(U.S. Statistical Abstract)

-Of these 20 million new jobs:
-The average hourly wage was $10/hr.
-46.1% were over $28,048/yr, and another 46.2% were from
$7,012-$28,048/yr, while only 6% were under $7,012/yr.

-During the Carter administration (1977-80), of the new jobs
created, 41,77% were under $7,012, 68.2% were in the $7,012-
$28,048/yr bracket, and 9.9% of the pre-existing jobs in the
$28,048 and up bracket were actually lost (Joint Economic
Committee, based on data from Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S.
Department of Labor)

-During Reagan’s presidency he decreased the tax rate of the
richest quintile from 70% in 1981 to 31% in 1988 (Joint
Economic Committee, 1990)

-In 1981, the beginning of Reagan’s presidency, the top 5% of
wage earners paid 35% of federal income taxes, while the bottom
50% paid 8%. By 1988, the end of Reagan’s presidency, the top
5% paid 46% of the federal taxes, while the bottom 50% paid 6%
(Joint Economic Committee, 1990)

-Inflation went down during Reagan’s time in office. In 1980 the
CPI (Consumer Price Index) was 13.5, and in 1984 it dropped to
4.3, and eventually to 4.1 by 1988. (Economic Report of the
President, January, 1993)

-Middle class families earning between $20,000-$50,000/year had
a 28% growth in net worth during Reagan’s time in office
(National Review, April 18, 1994)

Sean
Chloe the Clueless and Confused thinks if you turn the economy upside down it won't be trickle down economics.

Really, Sean, she lives in a very fragile and precarious mental state and cannot be held accountable for her hallucinations.

So,
21+% credit interst rates, 14% inflation, gas lines, a 444 day hostage crisis, a military which could not meet its commitmnents, being told this is as good as it gets, being told to wear a sweater in the house, and being taxed to death is better than GWB's condition?

harold, you rascal!
You will get an intelligent or original thought from Chloe the Clueless and Confused just after you hear about a scientific study showing an amoeba with a brain tumor.

Chloe
Honestly Chloe, I know you mean well and you probably have a great heart and it is in the right place, but how exactly would trickle up economics work?

Again, please explain how giving people things for free stimulates, motivates or in any other way moves the economy forward?

exrc
yeah i was there.

roy:
Are you even old enough to remember the Jimmy the Joke years?

scottk
yeah you mean like all those jobs that were created by the bush tax cuts. here's a stat for ya. there were 3 times as many jobs created during jimmy carters 4 years that in 8 years under dubya. so i think we can finally put away the canard that tax cuts create jobs. they don't. they never have. they never will. case closed.

When is the Fat Guy just a fat guy?
Today, actually.

Your Republican leadership continues to push Rush Fonda to the outer limits of meaningful political discourse because it recognizes the realpolitik irrelevancy of this blow-hard entertainer’s lust for headlines.

Maybe it’s time you realize your corpulent Christy is doing you no good. That you continue to worship him as Lord, when your real and duly-elected Republicans in Washington need you, is not only self-defeating but counter-productive to shortening your path to re-attaining the power you so desperately desire.

To be honest, it worries me not one iota if your dwindling numbers continue to scamper down Lemming Lane to the tune of this portly pied piper. As proven last November, your sycophantic heraldry of this bovine bubble-waist is merely the continuation of a destructive alliance with his failed ideologies -- those that got your Reddened as-es booted out onto Pennsylvania Avenue in the first place.

Tether you’re dingy to this garbage scow now, as it continues to become an ever-decreasing speck on the American horizon, and you merely become the cast of Lost. Realize, however, that Rush Fonda has already told you his reason for treason is that HE is far more important to the future of this country (and therefore the lives of your children) than a successful and democratically elected government and President of the United States and maybe – should you reject that absurdity entirely – there is hope for you yet.

Now is the perfect time to walk away from Jabba’s transparent play for the content of your wallet. If you don’t, however, just know this… For us, the priceless, beautiful and damn near poetic symmetry of your Rush worship is that the more money you send him the more taxes he sends directly into the pocket of your brand-spanking new American President Barrack Hussein Obama -- to spend as he sees fit.

Aahhhh, we love the smell of income in the morning. Smells like….Victory!

Chloe
Sorry to butt in...

You may be right about George Bush, whom I love and respect. He may have been in over his head as president. It pains me to say that.

Since 9/11 his only priority appears to have been defending this country. Unfortunately he failed to recognize that his political enemies were quite willing to damage this country in order to defeat him.

It may have been Republicans in charge, but it was Democratic policies that caused the bursting housing bubble. Rewarding those policies with free reign will be seen as a disastrous mistake.

Michael Steele
was a good choice for RNC chair. I especially like his dead on assessment of the blowhard known as el rushbo! Hey let him run for something other than just running his mouth!

Of substance, not style.

On economic solutions... Rush gets it.

Because for every dollar that the government has to "borrow"... that's one dollar LESS for the market place.

And make no mistake about it, Obama is borrowing us into a disaster... and in the near future.

So in short order...

...when you cut tax RATES, incentives go up.
... when incentives go up, businesses invest.
...when businesses invest, jobs are created.
...when jobs are created, money is earned.
...when money is earned, people spend and save.
...when people spend and save, more businesses thrive.
...when businesses thrive, the economy inproves.
...when the economy inproves, demand goes up.
...when demand goes up, more jobs are created.

Also when the economy inproves, the government receives more revenues... as more taxes are being collected.

But, if you raise tax rates on the "rich", you tax... JOBS!!! That's right, jobs.

And when you tax jobs... the exact reverse happens.

So every time you vote for ANYONE who engages in "class warfare"... you are simply cutting off your own nose to spite your own face. Not very smart.

A kind reminder to all moderate Democratic voters,

"NO-ONE will know who you voted for in the next election." Not one.

So re-think WHY you are pulling that lever, at least for yourself... and your family.

Then pass the word.

Harold
"But I do wonder what are your thoughts on when the economy will start to shows sign of recovery with unemployment numbers starting to decline and the stock market start to show some positive growth." If I knew that, I would move my money out of my savings and into some kind of securities. LOL.

To the others, we've done it the GOP way, tax cuts and spending like a sailor. This time, we'll trickle up, not trickle down, let's give it a little try, ok? When you hire someone to work to build new bridges (can't outsource those jobs, which is why the GOP types are unhappy, we actually have to employ Americans), they get paid. They go to McDonald's for lunch, Applebee's for dinner, which means those places hire servers who get paid. All go to the pharmacy and grocery stores, etc, etc, etc.

Let's see how cutting costs in med care help too. We spend a lot more right now for a lot less. Insurance company shareholders get theirs, maybe we consumers can get ours. Or are you all too worried that the family below the poverty line, gasp, maybe even headed by an illegal who has US citizen kids, will get 'something for nothing'.

zapdoodat
I try to go by little things like living through the Reagan years and seeing the improvement rather than listening to a man with a book to sell.

zapdoodat
Your arguments are literally BS. You flip things on there ear as if it is absolute fact. Yeah, right, Bubba was a military hawk.

I have read most of your posts all along on many topics...so we can assume republicans are responsible for EVERY wrong move in this country while democrats are the benevolent ones who are trying desperately to save us all.

You paint these broad pictures about how republicans are socialists, anti-military etc etc.

Right now, forget what republicans did before. This is all democrats right now. How is this not more socialistic that ANYTHING we have done in the past?

Patricia
thanks for proving my point. Poor GOP. the most talented candidate is disqualified by the base because they don't like his choice of religion. That's a smart group of people. LOL if it were not so SAD.

Sean
"Reagan cut taxes and government programs and it worked."

Not according to the man he appointed Chairman of the Federal Reserve. I urge you to get Alan Greenspan's book 'Age of Turbulence' from your local library.

On page 102, of the aforementioned book, we have the following tidbit of Greenspan's thoughts at the end of 1988.

"The economic indicators, meanwhile, were far from encouraging. Huge government deficits under Reagan had caused the national debt to the public to almost triple, from just under $700 billion at the start of his presidency to more than $2 trillion at the end of fiscal year 1988. The dollar was falling, and people were worried about America losing its competitive edge."

and from page 112, yet another tidbit from Greenspan's book gleaned from George Herbert Walker Bush's presidency.

"When George Bush won that fall, I hoped the Fed and his administration would get along. Everybody knew that whoever came in after Reagan would face huge economic challenges: not just an eventual downturn in the business cycle, but whopping deficits and the rapidly mounting national debt."

jackpine
you need to read it again. i was responding to someone else who said conservatives stayed home in the last election because mccain was a rino. what i said was that in the next election when you nominate palin, jindal or limbaugh the independents and moderate republicans either vote democratic or stay home. but the result will be the same. you lose.

chloe
you are absolutely right about the budget. The dems have identified many areas of necessary spending and taxing plans to rebuild america.

Anything that puts americans to work should be hailed as necessary to rebuild the economy. Thus we have the $800 billion stimulus bill and now the proposed supplemental spending of close to $500 billion more.

It seems that americans should be cheering these deficits rather than complaining about them. But it seems they are not enough to revitalize the economy.

But I do wonder what are your thoughts on when the economy will start to shows sign of recovery with unemployment numbers starting to decline and the stock market start to show some positive growth.

I fully support our president and his spending plans but I do wonder when we will see some positive saigns of recovery. I thought with your knowledge and experience you might hazard a guess as to when the country and the economy will start to show some positive signs

Chloe
health care? Have you even done the math? There is NO way Obama can PAY for what he is doing without taxing the entire middle class, not JUST those making 250k.

You are living in fantasy land, and so is he.

Chloe
I do blame Bush for some things, but many of them fall in line with liberal economic policies. He spent like a democrat.

But follow the logic here. If Bush spent us into trouble, is Obama trying to spend MORE to get us out of trouble?

In many ways, Reagan inherited a worse economy than did Obama. Unemployment was over 10%, inflation was at 13% and the top margin tax rate was 70%. Obama got it with about 7% unemployment and less than 1% inflation. Reagan cut taxes and government programs and it worked. The economy recovered. Obama is doing just the opposite.

Beowulfe is right on about giving people stuff NOT stimulating the economy.

RE: Chloe
You said... "Romney? Your party rejected Romney. The Christians feared him, and some people said he was too liberal."

You need to understand that no true Christian "fears" Romney. Christians have no reasn to "fear" Romney! Christians object to him calling himself a Christian. He is a Mormon, Mormons are not part of the Christian Church.

beowofe
any Republicans like to say that the Democrats cut defense spending in the first two years of 'Bubba' Clinton's presidency, just before Newt Gingrich became Speaker of the House.

If these odious and contemptible Republicans lie about things like the 'Clinton Administration Defense Cuts', then what will they not lie about?

beowolfe
so you live in a different country?

Obama depression? hardly. You folks are so scared that Obama is going to fundamentally change things, that health care for once will be available to all, not rationed by class, you send Rush out to rally the flagging troops. You lost the election big time, and the people who voted Dem this year at all levels do not buy the 'Bush isn't to blame' routine. Keep saying it...Goebbels would call that the big lie.

Could Bush veto or not?

WOW
It is amazing the way liberals view history.

beowolfe
"All the president can do is make recommendations, kiddo. As per the Constitution, it is congress that passes the budget."

Yes, and it was the Republican Congress.....

It was the Republican-controlled Congress of the 1990's, six of Bubba's eight years had a Republican Speaker of the House, the last six and most important, that ruthlessly cut our national security down to the bone.

Those Clinton administration defense cuts were actually Republican-controlled Congress defense cuts. These defense cuts put this nation in grave danger and led to 911. This country was unprepared because of Republican defense cuts.

If you want America put in danger, then vote Republican.

If these odious and evidently godless Republicans are willing to lie about our national security can they be trusted about telling the truth regarding anything?

Hey Roy
What color is the sky on your planet?

""so when you nominate a far right wing ideologue the moderate republicans and independents either vote democratic or stay home. ""

We nominated a Far Right wing Ideologue????
John McCain????

If John McCain is a far right wing Ideologue that would put Obama to the left of Fidel Castro!

Oh wait, we might have something here!

OMG, Liberals are So Damn FUNNY!!!!

America!
We need many more conservative speakers, like Rush Limbaugh, to wake people up.

We are being railroaded into socialism by Obama and the DNC. And I, for one, won't stand for it. American doesn't need to be changed! We need to get back to our love of God and freedom that made this country the greatest and most powerful nation earth has ever seen.

Be very afraid of anyone who wants to "change" this great nation. If this country turns socialist... you will lose your freedom.

Sean
The 'powers that be' are not going to let Obama have his way quickly or easily. This is a transformational fight to be sure. When FDR took office, our country was headed towards some form of fascism, either like Italy or Soviet Union. FDR's efforts, fought by the GOP then as well, kept our capitalist system in power, though with concessions to socialism (meaning state involvement with certain aspects of the economy). Obama will prevail--he has the numbers and an angry populace. And ultimately, our capitalist system will move closer to the European model--whether the GOP 'leaders' like it or not. We simply cannot have people without health insurance, for example. It costs prohibitively more to get medical care in the ER than it does on a regular office visit basis.

Romney? Your party rejected Romney. The Christians feared him, and some people said he was too liberal. He'd make a good Commerce Secty though.

Where is the Acorn provision in the stimulus bill? Line and page, please, in the bill, not in some blog.

"And it wasn't all republicans either. If Bush's economic policies were so bad, why did the real slide only begin about two years ago?"
Because that's when the loan mess hit the fan.

And Dems haven't denied responsibility. It is just that the GOP was on watch for the past 2 years and did nothing...stood by and did nothing. Not until TARP was put through, and then with many GOP saying no, by the President's guy, that Bush even started to get involved in the solution.

The buck stops in the Oval Office. This is Bush's recession, and Obama will have to deal with it, esp. since the GOP still has no ideas and just wants to sit on the sideline and catcall. That's fine. It will be the Dems and Obama on the line for the fix. I'm confident it will work. But Obama will step up.

That Sums up the Obama Plan

1. unnecessary growth in government,
2. disincentives for small businesses,
3. the ratcheting up of “class warfare” rhetoric.
___________________________________________

Hell...after that, there's nothing left to be said.

ROFL @ Chloe!
Yeah, because, that Constitution, that don't matter! Just because the United States Constitution SPECIFICALLY states that CONGRESS writes the laws, well, if we're looking to blame someone, and congress is infested with America-hating filth, well, for the first time in US history, congress DIDN'T write the laws!

Pre-2007, the economy was doing great. Look at the numbers yourself. An unprecedented 24 consecutive quarters of growth. Congress starts writing the laws, and within a year, we have the worst economy since the Great Depression!

I hope you are enjoying the Great Obama Depression! It's gonna be here for a while. Go ahead and repeat "Repuke conturd poopyheads are ghey!" all you want. The IRREFUTABLE fact of the matter is it's Democrats who are here screwing things up. Republicans don't even have filibuster power to stop the destruction the Democrats are dishing out!

Sean
"Do you understand the concept of a stimulus?"

According to Democrats, "stimulus" means giving more "free stuff" to stupid people. Something like 2/3rds of the "stimulus" plan are nothing but welfare payments of one sort or another. That is, 2/3rds of the "stimulus" bill involves taking money away from people who work and paying other people NOT to work.

Tell me, oh economic geniuses of the world, how, exactly, does paying people *NOT* to work "stimulate" the economy?

Perhaps it is because even the morons in congress that voted for this anti-constitutional filth KNOWS it won't stimulate buttkiss that they are ALREADY ramming through ANOTHER "stimulus" bill!

wrong again
Bush suggestions? He can sign it the budget or veto it. So, let's stop blaming the Dems and put the blame where it belongs...on the WH.

Chloe
Sarah Palin would not be a good nominee either. Where did you pull that from? Romney would have been better suited to get us out of this economy.

Do you understand the concept of a stimulus? It is a short term solution to get us out of a temporary situation. Obama pushed something through that has some spending that won't even start for several years and pushes the democrats agenda forward. How does Acorn 4.1 billion stimulate the economy?

And in spite of all your arguments Bush is not even remotely solely responsible for this mess. And it wasn't all republicans either. If Bush's economic policies were so bad, why did the real slide only begin about two years ago? He had six before that where the stock market was doing a whole lot better.

Bush has his share in the blame, but democrats are denying any culpability where John McCain introduced legislation to regulate Fannie and Freddie but was blocked by democrats. It was largely democrats that forced banks to lend to people that could not afford to pay loans back.

Just so I am clear. I am not absolving Republicans of there part in all this. I just think it is ludicrous that you just say "Bush gave Obama this economy". A lot of people, republican and democrat alike got us here. And Obama doesn't seem to be stabilizing much with his quickly passed "stimulous" bill.

Chloe

Have you read the legislation known as the CRA?
I am aware of what Bush did/said in 2002, and some of that I would not deem as wise either. But it all started with the CRA (ala Carter and then Clinton in the 90's). Do you deny these facts?! Are you aware of HUD's, and the Dept of Justice's role in any of this scenario? And what role did Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac have? Just curious...

What Bush did during his administration relative to the already-existing CRA is only a minor part of the story, and not the genesis of the problem. BTW, if you do some further reading/research, you will discover that it was primarily the Republicans in Congress who were warning of the impending mortage crisis before it became a reality.

In our discussions herein, let us attempt to be objective in our analyses of issues. Let's at least at a minimum level, attempt to discard the usual liberal/conservative "garb" in which we normally parade around. It makes for more intelligent and hopefully more objective, discussions!

Let me see, did Bush create or write some new legislation in 2002 that was different than that passed under Carter? Was it something that modified the original piece of legislation?

Are you idicting Rush's listeners as being gullible? You obviously think we're apparently gullible as well, correct? What "falsehoods" are "we" presenting to such a gullible audience?! Just curious...

To reiterate, have you read the CRA and/or any subsequent history thereof in Congress? Just courious...

And let's talk about tax increases!
Hey Chloe, someone over at the Wall Street Journal ran the numbers, and it turns out that Obama WILL break his promise to halve his deficit. That is unless he increases taxes on every household earning greater than $200,000 to **100%**!

Tell me, Chloe, what do you think will happen to all those earning over $200,000 if you Lord and Savior gets his wish and increases their taxes to 100%? Do you think they'll just sit there and take it, or do you think they'll move to, oh, how about freakin' CHINA where taxes are LOWER?

Of course, Obama can just rebuild the Berlin Wall right here in the United States and simply repeal the 13th amendment and enslave everyone with a job so he can afford to pay your welfare checks!

Chloe needs to read the Constitution
"who's budget was passed in 2007 and 2008?"

All the president can do is make recommendations, kiddo. As per the Constitution, it is congress that passes the budget. So, sorry, that is 100% on Democrat heads, kiddo!

Serious question for liberals:
I can't take credit for this one. It was David Limbaugh who first asked this:

Since you America-hating fascist liberals (but I repeat myself) continue to claim that Obama isn't a socialist, can you articulate exactly how he would be acting differently if he really were a socialist?

beowolfe
who's budget was passed in 2007 and 2008?

Who's war has run a $1 trillion deficit?

When did the recession start, and what did Bush do to stop it?

Who said, as a theatrical move during the 2008 election, that the fundamentals of the economy were sound?

So good that the Dems will pass this budget. Btw, the tax increases won't even start until 2011, and who knows if that will change by then. But keep ranting about tax increases that none of us will see until the Bush cuts end in 2011.

Sean and Gia
Gia first...so you're happy someone lost his job because your daughter couldn't defend her own political philosophy (or was it yours you forced her to defend....kids are supposed to be liberal at 18, btw).

And your argument, Sean, is that if Palin were the nominee, the troops that gave to Obama would have given to her? They gave to the leftist because McCain wasn't right enough? Really? You really think that there was that little a difference between McCain and Obama, and that the troops gave to the bigger leftist because they wanted a more conservative choice? Really?

Fearmongering? Have you seen the economy that Bush left us? Think of what Obama is doing like a surge on the economy. Maybe you can get on board that way. The spending is a stimulus. You don't stimulate by not spending money on things that need to be fixed like our infrastructure, health care, etc.

I've never called Bush a liar. I believe he believed what Cheney, et al, told him. They are the liars. He was simply not up to being president.

I suggest you go to source material instead of Rush and blogs. Go to http://www.recovery.gov and read things directly. You may be surprised.

So, just to set the record straight:
Since the Democrats took over the congressional purse strings in 2007:

- The Dow has lost 50% of its value.
- The United States has lost 3.6 million jobs.
- The United States GDP has shrunk in the past 3 consecutive quarters and 4 out of the last 5 quarters (after an unprecedented 24 consecutive quarters of growth).
- The federal deficit has increased by 1000%
- Foreclosers have reached record levels.
- Home values have declined nation-wide by about 28%.
- Bankruptcies hit record levels.

According to Obama's own most optimistic possible projections contained within the summary tables of his budget, assuming Obama lasts 8 years (God help us!), his SMALLEST budget (again, remember, we're talking about the most unrealistic, most rosy, if everything on Earth works exactly perfectly and if a butterfly bats a wrong wing then we're screwed, scenerio) will be over $100 billion LARGER than Bush's LARGEST deficit. His "perfect scenerio" calls for a staggering ***$7 TRILLIO*** in deficit spending over the next 10 years!

Or as the America-hating fascist Democrats like to put it: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Welcome to Obamanation!

I've never listened to Rush
but I hear his remarks from friends who think he is hysterically funny.

What is not so funny is a pres. himself attacking a radio personaltiy who is practicing free speech the pres. doesn't like. Bush was vilified, and never stood in a press conference and said Helen Thomas was threatening his admin., altho' doubtless she was.

All totalitarians stop a free press and lock up people who practice free speech. 1000s languish in jail in Cuba for merely trying to print neighborhood newsletters. Chavez now owns all the *news* in Venezuela. Hitler created an entire department of propaganda.

The Big O doesn't like the media except when it all loves him. He threw non-supporting press off his campaign. He bought his own cable station in PA for all O all the time.

His first visit to the WH press room was marred when someone tried to ask him a question and O responded with a big no-way. He didn't have his teleprompter with him.

Gov't control of economies and business has never worked anywhere, not the USSR, not Cuba, not China (where now the highest mortality comes from AIDS which the communist gov't didn't recognize as a disease until few years ago), or the collapsing ec.'s in S. Am.

Gov't's do not make wealth. They punish it. When Obamamaniacs are paying 15% mortgages and living with 10% inflation next year and the Big O is still trying to engineer bailouts, we'll see how much hope and change are left.

Gia
OUTSTANDING!

Chloe
Had the republicans actually put up a conservative more troops would have put money his way. McCain was a bad candidate because his policies are too similar to Obama's.

Obama to date

Campaigned on Bush using fearmongering to get us wrapped up in Iraq, but then proceeds to use fearmongering to push through a bill that will put our childrens, childrens, children in debt.

Campaigned on the fact that the republicans were irresponsible with spending, but then has spent 36 billion a day since being in office.

No lobbyists...you know...except these ones that I am going to give a pass.

You called Bush a liar based on the perception of one lie (to get us into Iraq). That lie is ridiculous at its face given that most democrats that accused him of lying said the same thing when was politically expedient for them to say it (Gore, Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton).

Obama has done nothing but lie since he was elected. Unfortunately since he is a media darling we don't get told he is lying relentlessly everyday as we were with Bush.

Bush, was not my pick for President, nor was McCain, but man...I would take either in favor of the snake oil salesman we have now.

Gia
Enlisted persons actually sent more money to Obama than they did to McCain. So, not all troops are conservative.

Gee gia !

Apparently, your Zany Obama from NY alter-ego got scrubbed.

Have fun !

Georgetwin
He resigned today!!!!

i posted this update in the couldter column on cal ripken.

Effective today , he is on administrative leave. MY husband and I agreed not to make it public/not to talk to the press.

He formally apologized and he resigned. MY husband and I are so happy. my daughter is upset with us. Shes really worried about repurcussions. We are working on her switching to another class.

Lightning
I suggest you read my posts and my citations. No, not MSNBC, but Bush's speech itself in June 2002. Not a word of criticism against the policy at all, in fact expanding it, esp. the Section 8 housing. So, before you (and Rush) keep presenting falsehoods to very gullible people, read what Bush's plan was, that it WAS HIS plan, not Carter's, not Clinton's, not Lincoln's, lol. His. He wanted the govt. to fund downpayments and mortgage payments, for goodness sake. If you don't like socialism, then you have only your own party to blame, particularly one George Walker Bush.

Bring back the draft
I think ther Rs in congress should write this bill. get BIGMOUTHED whiny libs sent to AFG and let them die for our country. 90% of the troops are conservatives.

If the draft was reinstated. all the dispicable coward yellow libs would move to canada and good riddance. draft 100k liberals right now.

to you deluded libs
sho think only the "Rich" will be taxed: WAKE UP
Bcause obastrd is going to screw you up the aRss too

Message to Chloe and oher libs...
I don't know where you get your info...possibly from MSNBC and the conservative-haters thereon??

If you did even the slightest research, you would discover where the lending practices to the "poor" originated...in the 70's under Carter's "rule"...it was called the CRA. Then under Clinton, it was injected with with more "juice" to make the practices more "mandatory", if you will. If you haven't already done so, do some research!

I listen to Rush on a regular basis, and I also "tune-in" to some of the other far more liberal "news" stations. I also visit some of the liberal web sites and read what they have to say about various matters/issues. So, I'm not getting just "one side" of the story. I'm not simply a "Johnny One-note". And, FYI, I don't always agree with everything Rush says! Most of the time however, he is "right-on" message! You might serve yourself well if you tuned into him on a regular basis.
If I may be so bold, liberals seem to hear only what they want to hear. This could of course be said of some conservatives, but not with the same frequency and percentages of most liberals.

Try "escaping" from what I would consider the "normal" MO of most liberals, that of clinging desperately to credos that generally for the most part do not, and will not, work! For a fresher approach try to divorce yourselves from the name-calling that permeates the ranks of most liberals, and their "progressivism" movement. You just might find life to be more enjoyable and rewarding. Try this today, GO OUT AND (YOU) MAKE IT A GOOD DAY!!! Abandon the "first grade" name-calling...

Gee Pseudo-Intellect LibBoy a !

Apparently,you know squat about Franklin.

You're wrong on both counts.

Do your homework,before you pretend you're a superior intellect,Fool !

Limbaugh A+ on substance?
Just sounded like typical right wing rhetoric to me. Who hasn't heard this stuff before? Rush is no different then Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Rev Wright or any of the left wing race bators. The only difference is Rush profits from white resentment instead of black victimhood. I think the GOP should make him the nominee in 2012.

From the leader you try to discredit
George W. Bush, June 18, 2002...

"Finally, we want to make sure the Section 8 homeownership program is fully implemented. This is a program that provides vouchers for first-time home buyers which they can use for down payments and/or mortgage payments. " Imagine, letting people who cannot afford a down payment get a loan by having the government make the downpayment or even mortgage payments themselves. What the heck was Bush thinking, eh? Yet it is Barney Frank's fault, even though he was in the minority until 1/07? LOL, GOP nutters.

"So this is an ambitious start here at the federal level. And, again, I repeat, you all need to help us every way you can. But the private sector needs to help, too. They need to help, too. Of course, it's in their interest. If you're a realtor, it's in your interest that somebody be interested in buying a home. If you're a homebuilder, it's in your interest that somebody be interested in buying a home."

Socialism?

"And so, therefore, I've called -- yesterday, I called upon the private sector to help us and help the home buyers. We need more capital in the private markets for first-time, low-income buyers. And I'm proud to report that Fannie Mae has heard the call and, as I understand, it's about $440 billion over a period of time. They've used their influence to create that much capital available for the type of home buyer we're talking about here. It's in their charter; it now needs to be implemented. Freddie Mac is interested in helping. I appreciate both of those agencies providing the underpinnings of good capital."

Bush's plan. It failed. Nutters on the right, nonsense.

Gia
Did you get the Liberal Teacher fired?

ok
So you lefties just keep on thinking you're pretty smart, smiling all the way into the poor house. Your limo driver -- BHO himself; and he'll have the biggest, dumbest grin of all, because this guy's got no clue whatsoever.

Sort of like the constituency who voted him in -- absolutely clueless.

Whine all you want about how the Republicans spent money these last 8 years (they did), but WAKE-UP! BHO has already proposed ramped-up spending that will increase at a rate NO ONE has ever seen. No one.

Yeah -- you lefties just keep the smug looks on your faces. I'm really going to laugh when you find out how badly BHO has sold you down the river. Pitiful.

so you conservatives form a 3rd party and then you and the gop get crushed. this isn't going to work out for you folks lol. its our turn and we intend to make the most of it. if you have to pay a little more in taxes well thats too bad. the wealthy made out pretty well under dubya. the party's over now. by the way rush isn't really interested in how well you do. its all about him. so you keep listening and we'll keep winning elections lol.

you really must stop smoking that cheap crack and start taking your meds EVERY day .

HOws that padded cell of yours? do they let you have any exercise in there.

as always a all you have are insults no substance. As for you Chloe you never cease to amaze. its incredible that either of you can accomplish upright ambulation.

I LOVE it!
The repubs & conservatives are in complete disarray now! RNC chairman Michael Steele is now taking pot shots at Rush Limbaugh! (I wonder why Steele detests Rush?)

This is what happens when there's a vacuum in conservative leadership and everyone is backbiting and in-fighting. Radio personality RUSH swoops in to fill the void.

"Unlike Rush Limbaugh, I want President Obama to succeed... We're all in this leaky boat together" -- Christopher Buckley, son of William F. Buckley, Jr.

Style means nothing! Truth is everything
Mr. Jackson, I hope that you do read these replys, there are many that express and show you how we really feel about the USA! How, much we do Love, this country and unlike those on the left who have nothing more than vile, and venom, moronic, stupid (not going to say ignorant, they don't know the meaning of it!)and most obviously when it comes to facts, clueless. There, words have no substance! Reading most of the replys responding to your column do. I hope you will take a step back and not grade Mr. Limbaugh, but realize what he stands for! that the GOP needs more of the same and that there are alot who think along the same line. Unlike those who claim to speak for the Republican Party. For all of you who do understand and who have spoken from there hearts....I hope and pray you will take up the fight againsit the Socialist movement brought on by the American Left and the Democratic Party. "There is no PC, no Touchy feelie, no more Mr.Nice Guy sydrome, No, reach across the isle..it's time for the gloves to come off...it is time to take the fight to them and there agenda." We, need to stand and Fight and be Proud of those who speak for U.S...Like Mr. Limbaugh. Tell, those RINO's to take there lies and go to the Socialist side of the isle..I for one also hope Obama fails and all those who follow him.

Chluless believes if she says something, then it is true. Have you read any of her idiotic rants about what GREAT shape California is in?

Harry Jackson
Is clearly baiased towards Obama (again the race card, black stick up for black)and is a t best a centrist democrat. he is socially conservative but he is a political centrist NOT a conservative. go read some of his other articlea and it will become clear to you as well.

BUT i see TH carreies a lot of CINOs out here, especially MEDVED the former movie critic, hes a joked

THe ticket I would like to see is LIMBAUGH/SAVAGE. I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE

What Reps. really did 1994-2006
Gave Clinton a SURPLUS NO OTHER DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATION HAS EVER HAD

Tried to impeach the liar for perjury, obstruction of justice, and lying to the Am. people, exactly the same impeachment points libs. thought were so relevant for Nixon

Produced Geor. W. Bush who entered pres. with dot-com crash in 99-2000 and 9/11 in 2001

Bush gave the nation less taxation, 15000 DOW, 0 interest, 0 inflation, lowest unemployment ever recorded (4.26), and the chance of a Muslin-Arab democracy in the center of the MidEast

Dems. gave us 60 years of debt, bankrupting financial law starting with Freddie in 1938, Fannie in 1968, and the CRAs in 1977 and 1992. YOU CANNOT FORCE BANKS TO MAKE BAD LOANS AND EXPECT THEM TO SUCCEED AS BUSINESSS.

In 2003 and 2005, Bush and McCain tried to get Fred/Fan restructured, and were fought by Frank, Rangel, Dodd, Schumer, Clinton, Kennedy, and Obama.

Now, the Dems. have passed more debt in a month than Bush had in 8 years. When inflation is 10% next year and you can't get a mortgage for 15% (a la Carter), we'll see how much hope and change is left.

Duh a !

What are you 85 ?

So,what Commission did Franklin serve on for Louis XVI ,know-it-all ?

What group did Franklin's son lead that alienated Franklin from him ?
Hmmmm ObamaBoy ?

Roy and Chloe
Roy: If you think higher taxes are the answer to our economic problems, then why don't you start by opening your checkbook and voluntarily send more of your money to DC? Be patriotic like Joe Biden!

Chloe: Rush's listeners understand what the libs refuse to - that the mortgage meltdown had its germination under Carter, was put on steroids under Clinton, was warned about by both Bush 43 and McCain in 2004-5 but ignored by Frank and Dodd as recently as summer 2008. Can you name another war that hasn't caused deficits - or do you deny that we're at war against radical Islamists?

Keep it up you two.

Rant?
I'm not ranting. Nice try to characterize my comments, but wrong.

The same people watch Rush, Hannity, etc. My father in law's tv is etched with the FoxNews logo, that's all he watches. Doesn't care to venture outside his echo chamber, wouldn't know how to turn on the computer if he tried. He listens religiously to all the righties. When my husband, his son, explained to him that the loans that have gone south were made long before the Dems took over in 2007, and showed him Bush's actual speech pushing mortgages for poor people, he seemed shocked, amazed that such information existed.

Watch Rahm and Obama let Rush turn slowly in the wind. 2010 and 2012 will be very grim for the GOP as Americans know who ran the country into the ground, and it wasn't Dems. Also, go back and read about FDR and how the GOP tried to do similar things to him, and what happened to the GOP then.

modern times
Now we know. Limbaugh has become our Tom Paine complete with Common Sense. Twice the Conservative movement gave the GOP a chance once in 1980 nd another in 1996. Both times the movement was betrayed by the GOP. CPAC should now move to become the nucleus of the Conservative Party. Sadly therein lies the only HOPE not just for cons but for the United States as well.

Duh a !

Franklin strongly believed in an interventionist God and that disqualifies him from being a deist. Franklin did not call himself a deist.

And Ya didn't call Franklin Fat,Obamaboy !

LOL
Substance? Rush?
the only substances that Rush knows is oxycontin and viagra.

Ok Chloe,

The only substance Obama knows is pot and blow. His words certainly have no substance.

Before you attack me.. think to yourself. Was the comment you made about Rush a fact or opinion?

In fairness, I can make the same comment about Obama and you should not disagree.

Chloe- some facts
Lets see, Air America- bankrupt, NY Times nearly bankrupt. HuffPo and Daily Kos traffic down 75%. MsNBC-Bottom of the ratings. NBC-Just above NBC. liberal newspapers failing one after another.

Rush-100 million dollar plus contract. Same with Hannity. Fox News demolishing everyone in the ratings.

No what was your silly point ? And who is the nutter?

Chloe's rant
For anyone new to this site, Chloe is a huge progressive(liberal, democrat). If she did vote for Bush at any time he ran for office...that just shows why conservatives did not get out and support McCain in 2008. Bush and McCain and most of the republican party had moved so far to the center or left that average american conservatives could not even stomach voting for so called conservative republicans.

The republican party started going to hell soon after 1994. Democrats were removed from a 40 year control of congress. That really pissed off the democrats and they started switching sides. Republicans got drunk with power and ego and started using "conservatism" as thier banner. True conservatives have seen what happened and as of 2006 thay made the republicans go sit in the corner for claiming to have conservative values.

Look at what has happened to the economy, the federal budget..etc in the last 2 years and the following years to come. America is watching and more people are getting informed. If the republican party ever wants the support of conservative americans, they are going to have to walk the walk and we plan to hold thier feet to the fire.

I did not vote for McCain or Obama in the last election. I do not vote for the lesser of two evils.

Do you GOP nutters get it?
Rush is your leader. He is leading you into the end of the modern GOP. Some smart leader (maybe Romney, not sure) will rise from the ashes, kind of like Reagan did after Goldwater allowed himself to be seen as an extremist. The GOP will have to jettison the true nutters in its midst--those who have no ideas like Hannity and Rush, who are simply charlatans who take advantage of citizens who either have no time, or maybe no inclination, to make money, and those whose ideas are totally outside the mainstream of America...i.e. how Jindal and Palin think about abortion and premarital sex. Think Romney in Massachusetts...not an ideologue, just a leader.

Rush is fast becoming Joe McCarthy. Hope his end is as sad as McCarthy's....maybe a viagra reaction, lol. If Rush is caught with an underage girl in the Dominican Rep., what will you all say...that the MSM framed him? That he is fallen and all he has to do is apologize?

You nutters think we fear Rush. Frankly, were I Rahm Emanuel and Obama, I would be so grateful that he is the only GOP leader who thinks he has any ideas. The rest of them act so defeated, because they are not as dumb and egomaniacal as Rushie pooh.

But people who are inspired by our messiah are motivated to make society better. Wed have been alerted by our savior that america is not the country is could and should be.

Ye, of too much faith. 2000years plus of recorded history and social justice has never been achieved. Nor will it ever be. If obama were that good then, Chicago would be the moderen day garden of eden.

Limbaugh Succeeds As MSM Goes Bankrupt !

While Limbaugh's 22 Million audience numbers are huge and his recently inked salary contract is worldclass ,The Failed Main Stream Media is going Bankrupt.

The Philadelphia Inquirer just announced it's moving into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, the Rocky Mountain News just shuttered it's doors and The New York Times had to be bailed out by Mexico's Carlos Slim.

Americans are voting with their wallets and The Liberal Main stream Media is being voted into Bankruptcy.

Rush Limbaugh
21st Century equivalent of Joe McCarthy. We all know what happened to that ranting maniac.

Even the GOP leaders are running from what he says...Eric Cantor wants a future...he knows that Rush's hope for Obama's (and the country's) failure will be the reason why 2010 and 2012 are going to be even worse for the GOP than 2006 and 2008. Do you realize that most Americans are not as stupid as Rush's listeners seem to be....that the mortgage crisis did not occur because of laws passed when the Dems got control in 2007, that the financial crisis worsened because the Iraq war has run on huge deficits, and because the GOP apparently agreed with McCain's mistaken belief that the fundamentals of the economy being sound.

GOP, party of complainers
Few Americans (beyond this site and those influenced by the talking heads who lose their jobs when you people finally realize they are lying to you) believe that the Dems and Obama are responsible for this mess. They don't think that the CEOS of GM, etc are Dems. They know that this is a GOP caused recession, heading towards depression. The American public gets it right, as it did in November when it dumped not just the GOP presidential candidate by almost 7 points, but through GOP reps and Senators out on their behinds. The budget will pass because the GOP LOST more than the presidency..it lost the hearts and minds of average Americans all over the country. The African American vote (which increased marginally for Obama over what the vote for Kerry or Gore was) did not put Obama over the top. It was the vote of people like me and my husband, who thought Bush was the real deal who would change things, and voted for him twice. It was the suburban vote outside of Philly and places that often went GOP. Spector will lose in PA because of Rush, and put another Dem in. PA is not a red state anymore. Why is that? Why did Indiana and Ohio and all those formerly red states go for Obama and other Dems? Because the GOP is the problem, not the solution.

And Reagan never said that government alone was the problem...he said something more far reaching, if you folks would ever take the time to read the entire speech instead of what the GOP talking heads tell you he said.

Were Reagan alive, he'd be on Obama's side, not Rush's. He clearly wouldn't ever say he hoped Obama failed.

"lol i may be wrong but who's in the white house? you guys have no one to blame but yourselves."

Who is yourselves? You don't seem to get it or maybe you are new to politics.

I'm not a Republican. I am a Conservative I do not put a political party before my principles. The GOP stopped being mostly Conservative quite a few years ago and has been bleeding support from Conservatives ever sense. You must be new to TH or you would have known this. The GOP won unexpectedly in landslide do to the support of Conservatives, they failed to govern as Conservatives in areas like spending. As they moved to govern as Dem-light their conservative support has waned thus leading to their constant decline. sense 2000.

You might support the Dem party no matter what. That would be understandable because principles don't seem to matter much to liberals.

If the Conservatives find someone to rally to, Obama will be a 1 term wonder no question. He maybe one anyway because he will be running on his economic record which will be terrible, especially after the inflation he is creating now kicks in.

More tea Parties
more Rush. We must have more truths not the lies being conveyed by the so called President.
Is this guy less than all there? what was it, the drugs? a problem growing up? what formed such deformed mind? I heard it at school many times. "The mark of a real psychopath is his ability to believe his own lies"
America take heart, conservatives teach your children. Let their minds not be poisoned by this Entitlement mind set. No one has ever owed me anything, I have always worked for a goal.

Might I remind Mr Jackson .
There is not one Centrist RePublican left in the North East in the House .....
Even Chris Shay's bite the dust after 20 years in Congress playing the half Liberal game .

Roy your stupidity is absurd
See Reply #44
A "far right wing idealogue was not nominated. McCain was a centrist almost leftist. Bush was also a centrist with some right wing beliefs (national defense) but many left wing philosophies (border control, no child left behind, the first bail out). Bush courted and bent over for the left and they still hated him. The reason the Republicans are losing is that they have become Democrat-lite and conservatives are staying home. The main stream media supports leftist agenda and it is harder for everyday people to get facts on why the economy is sucking and the corruption of the left. The global economy and unions are pushing jobs overseas. Your little card check bill will only seal the deal and push more jobs to un regulated countries where people work for a couple dollars a day. Your environmental policies will ensure that we remain dependent on other countries to generate our energy polluting at obscene levels because they are not regulated like we are.
You and your ilk will make us like the Soviet Union of the 70s and Cuba of today.

Reply #26 said "Following our messiah's vision america will become a country where social justice and over all fairness is the common denominator not the current situation where some have more than they need and most don't have as much as they need"

Who gets to decide how much someone needs. heck I don't need everything I have, but I have worked hard and earned everything I have. I should not have someone say, "OK, you have enough. The rest you have to give to us and we will give it to those who don't have 'enough'". Why the heck should I try to succeed if the fruits of my labors are stolen. I can (and do) donate to charities that I think help those that need help. I give to United Way, work on Habitat for Humanity houses and spend time helping churches. I think I am a much better arbitor of need than the Federal Government. I don't want to fund someone who would rather sit on their @ss and collect a check that reqires no work. I don't want to fund someone whose disability is a drug habit that they refuse to even try to beat. No one guarantees equal result; we just need to assure equal oppotunity. Your posting shows you break the communist manifesto. It is a poison that destroys from within. It does not work, has never worked and will never work. It is for lazy do nothings who want to be supported by a nanny their whole lives. GO live in Cuba or Venezuela and see how that works out for you.

Mr. Jackson
Reply # 8 is why I reject criticism of rush for the tongue-in-cheek off-beat comments about liberals. He's right. Why do we feel this ridiculous need to get people like the poster in reply # 8 to like us, or at the very least, not offend them? To h3ll with them! They are the most vicious collection of angst ridden people, and we are much better off with the eagle's talon-full of arrows than we are the olive branches in dealing with them.
To my fellow conservatives:
If you don't want to fight, stay home.

dr. what
lol i may be wrong but who's in the white house? you guys have no one to blame but yourselves. so when you nominate a far right wing ideologue the moderate republicans and independents either vote democratic or stay home. see its a win win situation for the democrats. thats why obama is pushing rush as the leader of the gop. he knows a shallow patsy when he sees one. so when palin or jindal gets stomped stop back by and i'll give you another lesson. i might have to charge you though. we are not communists after all.

Roy
"lol that poll didn't translate very well in the last couple of elections did it?"

Sorry roy, I over estimated you intellectual skills. I spoon feed it to you better this time.

You wrote earlier
"the only way you guys win a national election is for a centrist republican to be nominated."

Then I posted how the majority of people consider themselves conservative from 2002 till 2008.

Keeping up still?

GOP moves to far left loses support from the majority of people GOP LOSES BIG. The GOPs move left has been happening sense 2000.

GOP does not automatically = Conservative.

McCain was exactly what you said the GOP needed, A Moderate with a proven record of bipartisanship. He lost to an Ideologue with no record and definitely no record of bipartisanship.

In other words the opposite of what you proposed happened. So you are wrong.

Substance? Please

Rush was substance? Please. I sufferred through his entire speech, here's the substance:

Tax cuts and prayers for all problems
Stick to bronze age morality no matter what

The rest was the usual half-arguments, snarks, paranoia and feel-good platitudes we've come to expect from the GOP these days. The world is passing my former party by. I just wonder how many electoral arse whuppins its gonna take for you people to wise up and wake up to the fact that we have 21st century problems that require 21st century solutions, and the electorate (outside the sticks) won't support anything else. 20-year-old-mantras from Reagan dream land don't cut it.

dr what?
lol that poll didn't translate very well in the last couple of elections did it? you are going to have to live with the fact that you got obama for 8 years and then probably hilary for 8 more. so get used to it. hey why not jump on the bandwagon and come on in for the big win? whaddya say?

Lolo-DrWho
The best thing for America would be for Obama to get tongue cancer and have said organ removed. He is a Typical Liberal Girlyman of a Mama’s Boy Coward. He has NO CLUE of a Male Role Model, therefore he ping-pongs from Roosevelt to Lincoln to Reagan for inspiration. WHOEVER his inspiration du jour is, he spouts the same Crybaby Communist Crapola when he opens his pie hole. “WAAA! America is an unfair country! WAAA! Government is the only answer! WAAA! Spread the wealth!” Any the Dow continues to dive!

BTW, look at what these morons are planning under a foot of snow:

Rev Jackson
I think your comments might fare well for the intellectuals and the rinos in our party, but I would like to point out a few flaws in your editorial.
CBS Poles are always leaning left, so why use them.
Obama presented a speech, like an actor talking his lines in a movie. The speech was actually composed by a 26 year old baby faced Jon Favreau and read by Obama.
Rush Limbaugh didn't read from a pre-written speech, he didn't have to, which most of us non-intellectuals find refreshing and prefer over a "Great Orator".
You caught excerpts of Rush's speech from the "Drive By Media" You watched Obama's speech in total and no doubt on an MSM channel which praised the speech enormously.
Limbaugh, I believe is the clearest voice out there that defines what a "Conservative", is. (Pleases excuse the end of sentence preposition).
Take the time sir, listen to Rush for a couple of weeks. I must warn you though, He does a killer "Reverend Jackson" parody, but I can assure you that this intended for the other Reverend Jackson, and not you.

Otherwise, good article.

Roy
"you guys don't seem to get it. the gop has been split in two. the only way you guys win a national election is for a centrist republican to be nominated."

You mean like McCAin? Again wrong

From Battleground Polling.
"percentages of Americans in Battle Groung polling who call themselves "conservative" since June 2002: 59% (June 2002 poll), 59% (September 2003 poll), 61% (April 2004 poll), 59% (June 2004 poll), 60% (September 2004 poll), 61% (October 2005 poll), 59% (March 2006), 61% (October 2006), 59% (January 2007), 63% (July 2007), 58% (December 2007), 63% (May 2008), and now 60% (August 2008.)"

Biggest reason the GOP has been big losers is because the loss of so many Conservative voters. The GOP has become centrist in the last 8 years, this is what it has gotten them.

LMAO

Grading
Actually, I would give Bobby Jindal a C- on style and Limbaugh a B+. Limbaugh articulated conservative principals more clearly than most of our Republican leaders. He was engaging, funny, and irreverant. Not as slick as Obama but just about as effective. He explained his "want Obama to fail" comment very clearly, pitting this against our country succeeding. He talked about Obama's skill as a politician and his misguided use of this skill. Powerful stuff.

rahm emmanuel
great job by rahm yesterday building up rush while steele and cantor tore him down. the dems are playing this just right.

laughing
you guys don't seem to get it. the gop has been split in two. the only way you guys win a national election is for a centrist republican to be nominated. since the democrats have made rush the voice of the gop you will get a right winger who will lose. you see guys only 15 per cent of the electorate share your views. how are you going to win a national election with that?

BAC Lightning II @ 11:32

On the nail!

Actually I agree with you on this whole tax cut thing. Matter of fact I would go you one further, there should be no minimum amount before it is taxable income. One million dollars a year or one thousand dollars a year, makes no difference you pay taxes on it. Minimum wage to CEO, nobody makes too little to tax, everybody coughs it up.

You recieved "X" number of dollars in welfare benifits through unemployment, food stamps, etc., then you pay taxes on it. You made money from your stock porfolio, you pay taxes on it.

Each person in this country benifits from this country. As such no one should be exempt from paying their portion of all taxes, not just sales tax but income taxes also. If this tax is something we levy on the rich and middle class then the poor should be willing to help in the running of the country also.

If the times are that bad, the needs that great and we are truely all in this together, then then we should all, all, shoulder the burden. Either we do that or allow the people who do bear the weight make the decisions and those who share nothing in the cost must accept it.

Kathleen
"obamas statements have an expiration date on them." Can't remember who said it first but it describes obama statements perfectly.

Thank You
Rev. Jackson, you put it so well . "the war for the soul of our nation continues to rage". That 80% who liked the speech..are not paying attention. Can it be that many are deceived ? I have such a burden for our country and am praying for our leaders and for God to intervene.

One more thing!
Rush is AUTHENTIC! He doesn't have his "strings" being pulled by anybody else! He doesn't say one thing on a given day, and change what he says the next! He is not "self-contradictory"!

Obama has spoken about having more "transparency" in Washington...well, I have yet to witness that! The only thing transparent in Washington are Obama and the rest of the liberals! You can see "right through them"!

Rush does not change his message
Unlike Obama, Rush does not change his message to fit any particular group. Remember the Obama comments about clinging to guns and religion? He only makes comments like that in certain circles. Rush has principles that he adheres to each time he speaks. We need more people to act in this manner. I totally agree with Rush that the Republicans need to get back to conservative roots that have defined this party in the past when we were winning elections. We began losing when we left those principles at the door.
