Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

For the last few decades, evangelicals repeatedly have mobilized and demonstrated to oppose the operation of abortion clinics. Over the years, many have believed that being anti-abortion had become a litmus test for their support of politicians and policies, which vie for evangelical votes.

Last Thursday I joined 60 African Americans from around the country. We descended upon both the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) offices in Washington, DC. This group asked for Planned Parenthood to be defunded. We cited three reasons for the defunding:

1. numerous accusations of under-aged girls receiving unauthorized abortions,

2. alleged cover-ups of sexual abuse of minors, and

3. racial targeting of African Americans by PPFA.

As I approached the demonstration point last week, I couldn’t help remembering a continuing education class I had taken over a decade ago. A local director of a Planned Parenthood Center held back tears as she described the bombing of abortion clinics and her concern for people under her safety. I was deeply moved by this story and I was appalled by the fact that terrorists had committed violent acts against abortion clinic workers and physicians. This kind of terrorism should be legally prosecuted and never tolerated. Conversely, illegal or unethical practices by those who perform abortions should never be tolerated either.

I couldn’t help but think that the nation needs to find a way so that no one’s daughter has to consider having an abortion because of poverty, lack of adoption options, or other factors of this nature. Like many of my peers, I wish this battle would end. Yet, all sixty of last Thursday’s participants believe that it is especially important that African Americans stand up at this unique time in history. We cannot remain silent and ignore the increasing number of African-American children who are dying needlessly at the hands of Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

On Thursday, we also gathered to speak out against Planned Parenthood because of its blatant disregard for the law. Let me recap some of the legal accusations that have been levied against PPFA.

1. In Kansas the organization is under criminal investigation for falsifying documents and performing late term abortions. It faces 23 felony counts.

2. Planned Parenthood has also dealt in the realm of deception concerning the age of its customers. In Ohio, Planned Parenthood is being sued for failing to report the rape of a 16-year-old by her father. This is not the first time that center leaders have tried to bend the age-related reporting requirement.

3. Eleven months ago UCLA student Lila Rose appeared on the O’Reilly Factor stating the some Planned Parenthood centers attempt to hide child abuse or statutory rape by encouraging underage mothers to falsify their ages in order to receive an abortion.

4. Others believe that the organization has actually swindled the government out of money. In California, former Los Angeles city officials have accused the California Planned Parenthood organization of defrauding taxpayers of over 180 million dollars.

In addition to these legal accusations, there is a moral responsibility that African-American clergy feel about the loss of life of all children. Our community, which aborts babies at three times the percentage of our population, must be awakened to the fact that Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood’s founder, desired to exterminate blacks because she viewed them as an inferior race. One such statement said, "We do not want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” As a result the black community is disproportionately affected by the posture, placement, and philosophy of this organization.

To add insult to injury, Planned Parenthood receives $305 million a year of federal funding. We have discovered that PPFA also gives enormous sums to political campaigns to ensure that it continues to be favored by both parties. This year PPFA gave a combined amount of approximately $10 million to influence our federal government. By giving to both parties, this group maintains its slice of the funding pie.

In addition to federal funds, they receive over $356 million dollars per year in clinic income. PPFA also has over 900,000 active individual donors with Bill Gates heading the list of wealthy business supporters. In addition, the Rockefeller and Carnegie Foundations are among the large groups that fund their efforts. In light of these various sources of money, PPFA should have no problem surviving - if it cleans up its act.

What do we need to do follow up to last Thursday’s demonstration? First of all, we should challenge Congress to suspend funding for Planned Parenthood immediately. Second, we must ask both political parties to refuse or return Planned Parenthood campaign contributions. Third, we want all Americans to write their congressional and senatorial representatives with a special emphasis on getting the black community involved in the battle.

Someone, somewhere is counting

Another reason
There is another reason that the federal government should cease giving taxpayers' money to Planned Parenthood. The 10th amendment to the Constitution. This reason easily outranks the three given by Mr. Jackson.

It isn't "planned parenthood"...
That is a misnomer. There is no "planning" of parenthood and there never has been. I am in my 50's now, but as a married college student I went to the local clinic at age 20 for a pregnancy test. The test was positive...I was very happy, although wished it had happened after graduation. I was ushered into a room to discuss my "options." The only option discussed was abortion. I guess I was naive because I didn't get it right away. As soon as I realized they were outlining the procedure to kill my baby, told them I had no interest in destroying my baby. I was pushed out of that clinic so fast it made my head spin! They wanted no part of helping me to "plan my parenthood." They were only willing to help me destroy it. I do not want ANY of my tax dollars going to this fradulent, corrupt group. By the way, that baby was twins and they are 30 years old now...productive citizens and parents themselves. I thank God every day they aren't two of the 49M we will never have the privilege of knowing.

Great Info Geek...
Thanks for the data!

Lies...

You are a liar and your website is nothing more than a massive display of lies and ignorance.

Thanks Retired Geek!
And thanks to you, Bishop Jackson, and the other 59 African Americans who joined you to ask that Planned Parenthood be defunded.

Abortion is their agenda, period. IMHO, I believe PP actually hates women, and the babies they carry. They are not a pregnancy planning organization, unless by planning they mean that they are planning to take my tax dollars to fund their despicable practice of abortion.

Keep up the good work, Harry. You have lots of Americans, including this woman, who are praying for your success.

Black Leadership
Thank God for black leadership,(Oh yeah, DA,you ignorant liar, there is a God) that counters the self destruction rampant in the U.S. and in particular the black community.
What a contrast of true leadership when considering J. Wright and Obama with H. Jackson and L. Elder.

davpatt3
Oh yeah, DA,you ignorant liar, there is a God---

I didn't say there wasn't. I said that professorx's website is nothing but lies and misinformation. What you will not see is professor x engaging in any debate about his fraudulent site.

Personally, I see no reason to believe that there is a personal god. If there is a personal, it is definitely not a loving being. I don't blame you for trying to find solace in tales of eternal life. It does not correspond to reality, however.

In addtion to defunding it,
How about suing Planned Parenthood everytime someone is injured from one of their procedures?

DA
Like a typical left winger, you go off on a convenient rabbit trail (the blog that another reader posted) and thereby avoid having to deal with the substance of Mr. Jackson's article.

I find it interesting that you lambast that same reader as featuring only lies on their blog, but don't give any examples. Perhaps you are the one too cowardly to debate with someone on the merits of a given issue. But then, what would we expect of you? After all, you are a liberal, and liberals don't prefer to debate anything. They just start slinging mud and insults and hope that no one notices that they have no real rebuttal or intelligent counter argument.

As to whether God is personal and loving, please.... The entire creation testifies to His love and His caring attention to us as people who were made by Him in His image. And if that wasn't enough to convince you that He loves you and cares for you, He sent His only Son to die for you. That is the kind of amazing love that even an ungrateful person like yourself should be able to appreciate.

annfan
---Like a typical left winger, you go off on a convenient rabbit trail (the blog that another reader posted) and thereby avoid having to deal with the substance of Mr. Jackson's article.---

I am not a left winger…

Professorx avoided the article by going off on a tangient, I was merely responding…

Mr Jackson’s article is disingenuous and erroneous in several areas. He is avoiding responsibility for his community by biting the hand that feeds it, so to speak. Planned parenthood is an advocate for all women. It is also an organization that supports education, something that Mr Jackson seems adamantly against. Rather than discussing ways to reduce abortion, like self-responsibility and education, he’d rather attack an agency that tries to help women.

annfan
---I find it interesting that you lambast that same reader as featuring only lies on their blog, but don't give any examples---

I have done this multiple times on other threads but profx is a troll. He merely lists his website and moves on.

But, for the sake of argument, I'll provide you an example...

"The fact that the universe did have a beginning and will have a definite end means that the universe is NOT eternal."

This is an example of spin. This has nothing to do with evolution or biology and is wrong, anyway. The universe as we know it began, but the matter/energy that made up the universe existed prior to the universe in the form of a singularity. What existed prior to the singularity is currently unknown.

Subject: Suing PP -- SOMG
Seriously, SOMG, you are regurgitating some very sick propaganda. The injury rate from abortions--the death rate is 100% from every "successful" abortion.

How many women are scarred for l;ife; how many do not report the injuries suffered at the hands of abortionists, the shame the humiiliation.

If PP disappeared tomorrow maybe the African American community and others who use the abortuary would be motivated to embrace family values when young women face the natural consequences of their actions instyead of being trapped in a victim mentality with no sense of responsibility tied to their sexuality.

You cite poverty as a reason for aborting a child? Since when does being poor equal a death sentence? This is the richest country on earth. We can build this bridge.

annfan
---The entire creation testifies to His love and His caring attention to us as people who were made by Him in His image.---

Hmmm...

I'm guessing you never watched a child who had a rampant cancer spend the last days of their life vomiting and wasting away in pain before they died.

In their own words
"In my facilities, I always gave option counseling. Of course you make the abortion the most appealing. I told them about adoption and about foster care and about [when there was welfare] assistance. The typical way it would go is, "Well, you know you can place your baby out for adoption." But then, in the second breath you would say, "That's an option available to you, but you also have to realize that there's going to be a baby of yours out here somewhere in the world you will never see again. At least with abortion you know what's happening. You can go on with your life...The longer I was in it, the less I cared, so I really didn't really care what my conscience said. My conscience was totally numb anyway. But what it did do was public relations-wise. You were able, when a reporter or TV crew came, to pull out a packet of information for the patients to read and they received it. So what can anybody say? Publicly it looked good -- in reality it was another tool that was used to force a woman into abortion. It's typical -- I would give them an option and then shoot it down. The only option you didn't shoot down, obviously, was abortion."
--Former clinic owner Eric Harrah quoted by Dr. Jack Willke and Brad Mattes

tax money to aborted fetuses
hey. fair is fair . if the fetuus is a human being s you anti abortionists call him from the moment of conception, then its only fair that he get his share of the tax pie. i mean, im sure you either get your share or fight to get it, why not the fetus or the stem cell. as far as being ignorant of the true perpose of that share, most if naot all of us are ignorant for what our share of the federal tax dollar is supposed to be used for, we just get it and spend it, perhaps on dangerous things our choice . same with fetuses, what they choose or whatver it is they do, and they must do something because they are human, and a fundmatal qualoty of humans is the ability to choose is up to them/ you can an buy a gun with it and commit suicide
, you have that right. as for the fetus he too has his choise of weapons. if. on the other hand he is incapable of making a rational decision about what to spend it on, perhaps you shuld reconsider your beleif that he is human until he can. do that as well as a myriad of other things.

I hope the great ape
gets human rights status here. Then we can abort their babies. I hate great apes. They're inconvenient to me and ugly and it's too expensive to feed them. Maybe DA can lead this cause. He doesn't believe in the dignity of anything anyway. He hates everybody equally. Poor thing....

Does Planned Parenthood
use any of their substantial profit to provide parenting education, assist with necessities like clothing/diapers/formula, or post-abortion counseling? (This is what Pregnancy Support Centers do - without government support, and without charge to clients). If they do, I've never heard about it. If not, their purpose is clear. In her book, "Blood Money", Carol Everett, a former abortion-clinic owner, said that by infiltrating the schools with their agenda-driven sex-ed propaganda, their goal was for every teen-age girl to have three abortions. Her goal was to become a millionaire.

Planned Parenthood
We are giving millions to Planned Parenthood and they are donating to advocates of abortion??? Stop the funding now. My third pregnancy was not planned, and could not have come at a worse time, but abortion was never a consideration. Is not the expectant mother who aborts haunted by thoughts about what that child would be like, and how much love there would have been? The very worst is the late-term abortion. The procedure is horrible there is a life taken, but it is not murder????

Secondly, serious injuries from abortion
One commentor wrote, "Secondly, serious injuries from abortion are quite rare."

I beg to differ. EVERY abortion ends in
serious injury" to the fetus. Even when the baby is born alive, it is allowed to die without any medical attention.

As another commentor wrote, our tax dollars go to fund illegal immigrants with largesse that is not available to me (a disabled citizen who worked one, two, and sometimes three jobs simultaneously from the age of 16 to the age of 56).

I paid taxes all those years, yet the MAXIMUM I can get from disability is $881 per month after taxes.

I am forced to pay taxes to support the murder of innocent babies, funding for unwed mothers who choose to live with their paramours rather than marry (and have the checks cut off), and to support illegal immigrants to a lifestyle I'd like to have. the alternative is to allow the IRS to take everything I own and worked for 40 years before i became disabled.

We need reform in this country's tax laws and we need it NOW!

It is morally wrong to support killing babies, but the government will yank the money from me to fund it anyway!

Planned Barrenhood
has never denied, much less repudiated, the racist philosophy of its founder Margaret Sanger.

Why is that?

As for abortionists being competent and injuries being rare, no, they're not. The circuit abortionist who used to come to our town was run out when the ER docs, wearied of constantly having to repair the results of his "safe and legal abortions" went after his license. It wasn't long before the "clinic" shut down. That same "clinic" had female clients from all over the western half of my state as well as eastern Utah, which means a lot of hurting women, to say nothing of their dead children. This is good exactly how?

Interesting how the question of why being dismembered, chemically burned alive or having one's skull punctured and the brain sucked out is somehow preferable to living even a harsh life has never been answered.

Good quote
Mike,

Your quote from a former owner of an abortion clinic was the perfect response to SOMG's comment about having to mention the options. The law may require you to mention options, but really how do they make their money? The law require pharmaceutical companies to talk about side affects in their ads, but they really still want you to buy their products. Planned Parenthood's main business is abortion, so even in complying with the law they are going to try make sure they sell their product.

With the stroke of his pen
President Bush could, by Executive Order, eliminate all Federal funding now going to Planned Parenthood a.k.a. Planned Infanticide.

Sanger and racism
The statement that Margaret Sanger wished to eliminate the black race is a bald-faced LIE. The "We do not want word to get out..." quote is her stating that she and Planned Parenthood did not want anyone to get this MISTAKEN IMPRESSION. The organization seeks to help women of all races by empowering them to decide whether and when to have children. And because PP provides contraception, it is, as one poster pointed out, a leading PREVENTER of abortions.

Sanger: Advocate of Forced Sterilization
Life Magazine has ranked Sanger as one of the most important persons of this century. She is the founder of Planned Parenthood and an "outstanding" proponent of eugenics. In April of 1932 she advocated an option "to give certain dysgenic groups in our population their choice of segregation [concentration camps] or sterilization." ("A Plan For Peace," Birth Control Review; see 'appendix' for this full unabridged semie with bad genes. She and others pioneered forced sterilization in the 20th century.

***********
Margaret Sanger appointed Lothrop Stoddard as a board member of the Birth Control League, the forerunner of Planned Parenthood. And as we will see later, Stoddard was an avid supporter of eugenics, forced sterilization, and Germany's Adolph Hitler.

http://www.lifeadvocate.org/1_98/feature.htm

Senator Vitter
from Louisiana has sponsored a bill pertaining to this that should be supported. I think black people should care because babies are being treated as non-human simply because they are dependent. Anyone joining the cause should love and respect human life and dignity not just one color of it.

Proud Lib
Believe what you want but you are dead wrong. Take the time to really look up Sanger. She was no saint. Stop looking to leftist pro-death propaganda as your source for info. It sounds like your reciting a pamphlet you picked up in one of their offices.

Pupose of PP
"The organization seeks to help women of all races by empowering them to decide whether and when to have children."

If the purpose of "Planned Parenthood" is to empower women to decide whether and when to have children, why don't they concentrate on empowering them WHEN to make this decision? Is personal accountability a bygone idea? I believe that in some cases it is necessary but why the hell does it take some women more than 3 months to make this decision?

Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood should change its name. There is nothing planned about it and it's the furthest thing from parenthood you can get.

truetolife
---He doesn't believe in the dignity of anything anyway. He hates everybody equally---

Boy, you aren’t cutting to the chase. You began with an insult.

What is your definition of dignity?

Also, I don’t hate anybody.

Planned parenthood...
deals with a variety of topics ranging from birth control to relationships to adoption. Abortion is only a small part of what they do.

I have some questions for those who are anti-choice.

-what is your definition of a person?

-Is a person capable of living without being physically attached to and 100% dependent upon another person?

-Does a woman have the right to control her body and reproductive system? If not, then why is rape illegal?

-If there were a fire and there were 50 embryos in test tubes and one adult person and you could only save one, which would you save?

poor wording...
-Must a person be capable of living without being physically attached to and 100% dependent upon another person to be considered a person...

and if not; why can't I demand your kidney or lung or blood if I need them?

catechism
356 Of all visible creatures only man is "able to know and love his creator".219 He is "the only creature on earth that God has willed for its own sake",220 and he alone is called to share, by knowledge and love, in God's own life. It was for this end that he was created, and this is the fundamental reason for his dignity:

What made you establish man in so great a dignity? Certainly the incalculable love by which you have looked on your creature in yourself! You are taken with love for her; for by love indeed you created her, by love you have given her a being capable of tasting your eternal Good.221

357 Being in the image of God the human individual possesses the dignity of a person, who is not just something, but someone. He is capable of self-knowledge, of self-possession and of freely giving himself and entering into communion with other persons. And he is called by grace to a covenant with his Creator, to offer him a response of faith and love that no other creature can give in his stead.

358 God created everything for man,222 but man in turn was created to serve and love God and to offer all creation back to him:

What is it that is about to be created, that enjoys such honor? It is man that great and wonderful living creature, more precious in the eyes of God than all other creatures! For him the heavens and the earth, the sea and all the rest of creation exist. God attached so much importance to his salvation that he did not spare his own Son for the sake of man. Nor does he ever cease to work, trying every possible means, until he has raised man up to himself and made him sit at his right hand.223

Wow, ken. That is a well thought out concise response that shows intelligence and a strong basis for your opinions [sic].

DA
How do you define "anti-choice"?

Is "choice" the opposite of "life"?

Which dictionary are you using?

The baby owns the placenta, the umbilical cord, and the amniotic sac and fluid. He takes nourishment through the umbilical cord. He decides, somehow, when the time is right for birth and is the instigator of labor. After birth, the baby also attaches to the breast for nursing. Is that the same thing, as being attached while still in the womb, since it is the means of sustenance outside the womb for about a year?

DA
As for reprudctive choice, there are no restrictions. You ca have as many kids as you want.

The woman has the right to control her body. Short of having a knife to her throat or a gun to her head, she always has a choice. Or do you think women are too weak and/or stupid to control themselves, and should be, in order that *you* are not deprived?

The woman does not have the right to control anyone else's body. Do you seriously believe it is possible for any human being to have two brains, two hearts, two differing DNA codes, two blood types, etc.? No, and you know it.

DA #3
A person is a human being, a member of the human race, homo sapiens.

Babies in the womb can be operated on as much for their benefit as for their destruction. Why is the same baby regarded as a person, indeed, a patient, in the first instance but not in the second?

You say a preborn child isn't a person because he is unable to exercise the faculties of an adult? Guess what, DA, you are too when you're sound asleep or unconscious. For that matter, the law holds those under 18 to be minor CHILDREN, unable to enter into certain contracts, vote, drink, make medical decisions for themselves. Yet they are still "persons" and can ve removed from an unfit home.

If there were a fire I'd do my darndest to save everyone. Would you rescue a 90-yr old from a burning nursing home, or rescue the younger residents and leave her to her fate?

aliveinhim
How do you define "anti-choice"? ---

Anti-choice is removing the woman’s choice to control her reproductive system and body.

Is "choice" the opposite of "life"?---

No, you can be pro-life and pro-choice. This mindset stresses personal responsibility and education to limit the need for abortion. Also, pro-life would mean that you are anti-death penalty and anti-war.

---The baby owns the placenta, the umbilical cord, and the amniotic sac and fluid.---

The fetus shares half of the placenta. It is connected to the mother’s uterus. The fetus is 100% dependent upon the mother for nutrition, oxygen and waste disposal. The mother can live without the fetus but the fetus cannot live without the mother.

---He decides, somehow, when the time is right for birth and is the instigator of labor.---

Your language betrays your feelings towards women. Plus, you are wrong. Oxytocin and prostaglandin in the uterus are what initiates labor and these are produced by the mother.

---After birth, the baby also attaches to the breast for nursing. Is that the same thing, as being attached while still in the womb---

That is a ridiculous statement. There is no similarity between breast feeding and the womb. Once a full-term infant is delivered it is an independent entity, it is no longer physically dependent upon the body of a single person.

aliveinhim
---As for reprudctive choice, there are no restrictions. You ca have as many kids as you want.---

That is only one small part of choice. Other choices are when and where and with whom you are going to have children with. Another choice is whether you want to have children, at all.

--- You say a preborn child isn't a person because he is unable to exercise the faculties of an adult…---

Nope, I am saying that it is not a person because it is not fully formed to the point that it can exist as a self-sustaining entity without being physically connected to another being, as well as the fact that it does not have the capabilities of cognition.

AliveInHim
Your posts are like music put to pen! They are beautiful and uplifting. DA's posts are always downers. He's angry at himself and the world. There is no joy in anything about any of his posts. He is here to antagonize. I really believe that there are "homosexuals" and "atheists" that are "assigned" to certain posts. It has even been suggested in the past that they are paid for these postings. I don't know about that. At the very least, they are here because they violently hate the truth and as Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, "the more violently men hate truth, the more they think about it." DA obviously thinks a lot about truth and does his best to obfuscate it. He SO reminds me of another poster that I haven't seen for some time, Knight of BAAWA.....

Not at all. I am trying to share my knowledge and experience. It would appear that many people do not care about reality or facts.

Declaring Independence from ...
At the beginning of July, when we tend to read more about Independence Day, I read a health care newsletter wherein the editor shared the struggles of Great Britain's National Health Service, which celebrates (if you can call it that) its 60th Anniversary on 5 July. He opined: "This year it sounds like a lot of Brits are ready to sign a Declaration of Independence from the National Health Service. Let's see if they are up to the task."

This put me to thinking: In a sense, I declared independence from the American health insurance system when I joined a Health Care Sharing Ministry in Oct. 2004. No longer would I be tied to a job, wondering about losing my health insurance if I changed jobs. Instead, I have complete portability. No longer would I be tied to a PPO, HMO, or any other managed care system. Instead, I am free to choose whatever doctor or specialist I desire--and I shop before I purchase so that I get the best buy. No longer would I be compelled to pay increased premiums without a say. Instead, I get to vote on whether my monthly share should be increased. No longer would my conscience be heavy with the knowledge that my insurance premium might be going to pay for abortions or other morally repugnant procedures or medicines. Instead, I share bills with other Christians who value life from conception. No longer would I have to pay high premiums. Instead, I share one-fifth the cost on a monthly basis, thus freeing up more of my hard-earned money for other necessities and desires. Overall, my declaration has saved me at least $10,000 in three-and-a-half years.

And as a reward for my declaration, I can pray specifically for the health of other members in the ministry and send them notes of encouragement. When was the last time you heard of an insurance company sending you a get-well card telling you that they were praying for you?

Happy Independence Day!!
