Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

America stands at a crossroads in terms of thought and political ideology. This is the moment in which the conservative movement can win many converts from the black community. In order to accomplish this, conservatives must understand the real concerns of the average African American. Let me explain how I arrived at this conclusion.

Six months before the last presidential election I finished writing a book entitled High Impact African-American Churches with noted researcher Dr. George Barna. As we compiled our research, I met an enormous number of African-American pastors who thought like conservatives, not liberals. Unfortunately in most cases, their voting records did not line up with their values. This new breed of black leaders were out-of-the-box, entrepreneurial thinkers who were very serious about changing the face of their community in practical, tangible ways. Further, they were not locked into supporting the Democratic Party. These new black church leaders still preach the old-fashioned, cornbread-and-beans encouraging messages so famous in the black community, yet they do their research and their business planning with a laptop. This group was savvy enough to know that tax-and-spend policies directed at the poor have helped break down the black family structure.

Our research also told us that the white church in America is still grappling over the role of the Church in politics. Conversely, black church membership wants their religious leaders to speak out on social issues. As a result, the biblical views of the majority of blacks have been shaped by ministers such as Jackson, Sharpton, and others. To date, many outstanding black conservative voices have spoken from an academic, journalistic, or business sphere of influence. The conservative message needs to reach and transform black clergy who have a legitimate base of authority in the local community.

During the last election cycle, I began to talk in both secular and church circles about the “new black church” and the need to change its paradigms and make some major changes in how it affected its world. I often illustrated the black dependency upon the Democratic Party in terms of someone caught in an adulterous relationship. Although the democrats said that they loved us, really they were only in the relationship in order to get what they could from us.

I decided to make a difference by calling on black Christians to vote for George Bush because his morality, governing approach, and conservative values most aligned with theirs. The major roadblock black pastors faced in changing their voting patterns was the concern that the Republican Party could not be trusted to actually produce the compassionate conservatism that President Bush had articulated.

The large number of blacks who crossed the color line of the Democratic Party and voted for President Bush showed that dramatic changes were happening. . Many people believe that values-voters won the election for him. This trend can continue if conservative principles are presented in terms of clear economic and social values. I am specifically encouraging you to think about prioritizing policy changes in the following six areas:

1. Marriage Protection

2. Wealth Creation

3. Education Reform

4. African Relief

5. Prison Reform

6. Health Care

These six points are the basis of what I have dubbed The Black Contract With America on Moral Values. I’m seeking one million signatures before the next presidential election. The blacks and whites say that we can make a difference by bringing practical solutions to these challenging areas. The next few months my articles will zero in on each of these areas in depth. In addition, it will be important for you to know I’ve done two other things:

1. We’ve founded The High Impact Leadership Coalition which is attempting to facilitate minority leaders and church members stand for many national, conservative issues.

2. We’ve just begun a national radio program called The Truth in Black and White heard on approximately 500 radio stations.

Standing At The Crossroads
Luckily all black people aren't this hateful and can't be bought off for attention and money. You would have been the "House Negro" instead of the "Negro In The House". Shame on you for trying, like others, to make a name off people who actually go in the community and do some work, whether you agree with them or not. Instead being an original, you make money by using the lazy and coward,s way to get attention from people you know will use you to bring animosity and division to a community that's suffered enough.

THE BLACK VOTE
I AGREE 100%. GOD SHOOK MY VOTING WORLD WHEN IT WAS TIME TO VOTE FOR CLINTON THE 2ND TIME AROUND. HE ASKED ME WHY ARE YOU VOTING FOR CLINTON? I COULDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION. AGAIN GOD SAID IS IT BECAUSE SOMEONE TOLD YOU TO VOTE "DEMOCRATIC!" AGAIN, GOD ASKED DO YOU HAVE A MIND OF YOUR OWN?" HAVE YOU RESEARCHED CLINTON AND THE OTHER CANDIDATES? MY ANSWER WAS NO! GOD SAID WHY NOT?? THAT WAS THE DAWNING OF ME INVESTIGATING EVERY CANDIDATE I VOTE FOR! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEIR POSITION IS ON ISSUES LIKE MARRIAGE, ABORTION, CHILDREN, SCHOOLS ECT...IF THEIR OPINIONS DON'T LINE UP WITH WITH THE BIBLE. THEY DON'T GET MY VOTE! ITS TIME FOR MORAL CLEAN UP, TODAY IS THE TIME!!!!

"Crossroads" - has my vote.
I have signed "The Black Contract With America on Moral Values". Furthermore, I believe it is time for the majority of American people to speak out re: the various points listed. All 6 points are issues that if not addressed will not only affect us as Americans, but will have a global impact, as well. (Sidenote: Thanks for the welcome to townhall.com Cynewulf.)

article
great outlook and insight. thanks and God continue to bless your Work, Life , Family and the Ministry HE has committed to your hands

I await your next.........
I admire your uprightness; indeed, you are a thermostat, a regulatory instrument. From your article, you have chosen not to be a critic just for its sake, but you have gone a step further to highlight interesting suggestions, instead of criticizing and condemning the government like most articles we have been reading which are nothing but emission of venom and poisoning of young minds. You have started a campaign geared at changing how the majority of Americans will begin to view politics. I await your next article sir.

The New Black Church
Bishop:

I totally agree with your message that the Black Church needs to change its paradigms. Praise God for your willingness to allow Him to change your thinking from the idea that we have heard all our lives: "Democrats are for Blacks and Republicans are for the rich" and the courage to move forward and confront the status quo. I believe with all my heart that you have been called for such a time as this to trumpet God's message of righteous and justice to the Body of Christ and throughout our land. God Bless You and keep up the good work!

Black America Speaks
Mr. Jackson does a great job of expressing, with clarity, issues and concepts that the average citizen can understand and identify with; this is bound to motivate citizens of good will to give critical thought and focus upon resolutions -- whether by voting, speaking out, or corresponding with their elected officials. Congratulations for a thoughtful and methodical elucidation of issues that unquestionably need be addressed.

Crossroads
Bishop Jackson,

I agree with your points as important areas to focus for change in America.

What exactly, is the Government
to do, to fufill this contract?
It seems to me that it is up to the individuals to make the changes in their lives for the better.
Welfare reform was enacted-
The Democrats will NEVER let us have school vouchers, so education will stay the same or plummett even lower
Most African leaders are corrupt- should we just throw more money at them?
How is protecting marriage(70%illegitimacy) going to help black America?
Is the key to wooing Black voters adopting Democrat's failed policies, is that what he is saying here?

Pistol reply to DanD
How do we make Vouchers happen all across the U.S.A. to give the subjugated black children a chance to be finally free?? The current system has been designed to keep them dependent on Democrats instead of free to pursue their dreams.

We all know that the scientists have found "Eve" thru their DNA research. This proves ALL MEN AND WOMEN are decended from the same mother. There is no genetic (or logical) reason why black children can't participate in this wonderful county and it's ability to be whatever they wish (see Colin Powel, Condelesa Rice, Juan Williams and most of all my Hero, Bill Cosby.)

I think the Democrat approach is racist where I beleive they think blacks are inferior and have to be "cared for". How disgusting!!

I want to see the first approach (there are many, many, many other things that can be done) to be PARENT CHOICE of schooling for their children.

God bless you for what you do Pistol -- if my daughter could have had the opportunity to teach in a magnet school she would probably still be teaching.

Bishop Jackson
I would first like to thank Bishop Jackson for the courage to stand for what the Holy Spirit has revealed to him. I'm a young African Am female who for years was told by my family that you should always vote Democrate because "they" were for black people. By the grace of GOD, HE saved me and as HIS word says revealed to me the spirit of truth and delivered me from the spirit of error. I wrestled for a awhile the last election on who I should vote for and after asking the HOLY SPIRIT for guidance and wisdom He revealed to me what to do. I should vote for President Bush. For the first time in my life and the first in my family I voted for a republican. I realized that despite what I wanted, it was GODs Will to be done. I know understand that it is more important to lay my own feelings aside and trust that GOD is my help. I now believe that my role as a Christian is to stand up and support My fathers' agenda and not my own. I'm sorry this may seem off the issue but I strongly believe GOD is using you to help bring light to dark areas and where the enemy has sown deceit, anger, resentment and lies you are being used to bring healing, truth, understanding, wisdom, and integrity. Thank you again and May GOD continue to Bless HIS work

Flagwaver
I do believe that Mr Jackson made some good points and I will be looking forward to reading his viewpoint on the issues he listed. I do agree that the marriage issue should be at the top of the list. I read your blog on this editorial and agree with many of the points you make. I have read many of your postings in the past and you can usually hit the nail on the head so to speak.

With all due respect...
I visited your website and viewed the extended explanation of your six points.

With the exception of African relief, the other points can only be solved within the context of the family unit. No amount of government programs, policy changes, restructuring, encouragement or whatever is going to fix the moral bankruptcy that enables some Black men to abandon their families as spiritual leaders, protectors and providers.

I look forward to further explanation in future columns, but so far it seems you place too much emphasis on government to solve Blacks' problems.

Is DanD psychic
How did you know i support anything that adds choice to the current public school system. I'm a retired engineer in my second year as an assistant math teacher in a public charter school. I put my time and heart where i can make a difference. Not a big difference to everybody except me and a few kids and parents. The kids are great, the teachers are heroes and heroines, the system is broken. Choice and local control are the answer. Peanut Jimmy's idea for moving the Feds into schooling should be terminated immediately. Dade county(Miami) here in Florida spends over 40% of its budget just to get students to school. Rev. H. Jackson is on the right track to put education so important. It has been always been the road to a piece of the American pie and the ethnic groups that valued it the most succeeded the quickest. Since i work in a charter school that requires parent participation, the vast majority of the black kids i work with are immersed in positive regard for education, thank goodness. Its slow, but i think the word is getting out. I know it is a wrench for black folks to vote other than Democratic, but i think more of them are doing it than will admit it to friends or pollsters.

To all
i have just posted a column at my blog that concerns this article. feel free to come over and check it out.

B,
Welcome to Townhall. I hope you take a tour of the place and stick around a while. Check out some of the other columns. Check out some of the blogs (Flagwaver has a good one; you're more than welcome to stop by mine (just click on any underlined name, and it'll take you to their blog)). And keep voting for what's right. I have a feeling you'll be starting a new tradition.

And Flag is right:
Mr. Jackson doesn't choose the picture; Townhall does. As Flag noted, check out the other columns. You'll see other pics that don't quite add up.

I like the way
this guy thinks and writes. I'm definitely interested in see what else he has to say.

"Son of Africa"? As far as I can tell, he's only said this once. It's the poet in him.

"I fail to see how "protection" of marriage (protecting it from what?) helps black America."
Jay, if you can't see how "protection of marriage" helps black America, you're being willfully blind. I do wonder, though, if we can put the cat back in the bag (and not just for black America, but America in general).

I totally agree with Mr. Jackson.
As a young African-American woman, at the age of 18, I automatically registered as a Democratic voter. However, now that the Democratic Party has loss its sense of morality, I have been unable, in good conscious, to vote for this party. This was reflected in my vote during the last presidential election. Although it was traditionally difficult to vote otherwise, the bottom line is: I stand for morality and I voted accordingly. Deep down, I pray that the Democratic Party finds its way to truth and righteousness and not just "people-pleasing" of those that they perceive to be apart of the latest fad. But if they will not stand for what is right, then I will. Hence, my vote will continue to go elsewhere, despite tradition.

All Americans
Must we continue to distinguish between our various countries of origin? Do you think we can all just consider ourselves Americans for once? As long as we insist on dividing ourselves through hyphens, or other means, we are much easier to conquer.

I was disheartened to see this being continued in the latest illegal alien marches and the apparent alliance with the NAACP.

http://grassfire.org/42/video.asp?rid=11574802

Tell me people
What does the use of Jessie Jackson's picture on this article have to do with anything? Just because his picture is up does not mean that Mr. H.R. Jackson has anything to do with the other Rev. Jackson. Look at some of the pictures on other articles here at Townhall and you'll see lots of pictures of people whose ideas we don't agree with.

Another point is that just because this Rev. Jackson was at the State of the Black Union does not mean that he endorsed every idea that was discussed there. Frankly, I see his attendance as a positive thing, as he was a voice that needed to be heard in that forum. His was a conservative voice that was telling the attendees that it is well past time for Blacks to start taking sole responsibility for ourselves. That was his message, so what is wrong with taking it to the very people that need to hear it the most? As much as I enjoy Townhall, I know that there are not a whole slew of blacks reading this site. So what would be the point of Rev. Jackson only preaching his message here, to the choir so to speak, instead of to the people that need to hear the message?

As to baseballdr's fixation with Rev. Jackson saying that he is a son of Africa, what is your beef with that, exactly? I am a Black man and I know that I am a son of Africa as well! Mine is the first generation of my family that did not have to work as sharecroppers, and I am only four generations removed from slavery. My forefathers were reared in South Carolina which always had a great number of African slaves there, so I am not that far removed from Africa!

Black people have more of the African in our culture than we are sometimes aware of, from the foods we eat, to cherished family traditions, to the way we worship our God. All of that is informed by our African ancestry and heritage, and we should not be asked to deny it or put it out of sight so that you feel comfortable. It seems to me that Rev. Jackson is simply acknowledging his heritage and I cannot understand your aversion to it. Rev. Jackson can call himself African-American, a son of Africa, whatever he wants, but the bottom line is that he is atempting to deal with the problems that we have right here at home!

Finally, the reason that the protection of marriage is important is that it is synonymous with the protection of the family. One of the biggest problems that the black community faces is the breakdown of the family unit that started in the 1960s. Until then Black families were doing fairly well, the teen pregnancy rate wasn't astronomical, and there was more achievement in the Black community. With the coming of the welfare state, the Black family was destroyed by the influx of welfare funds that made it more profitable to have children out of wedlock than to have a stable home. And that has bred rampant poverty, skyrocketing crime rates, a staggering incarceration rate for Blacks, and terrible academic performace in the Black community. That is why the protection of the family and the strengthening of marriage is a bit more important than vouchers, okay!

Pistol writes
I agree!!! Vouchers are the ultimate first step in freeing the enslaved black community. Give those parent(s) that beleive in the American system the opportunity to select the best scj\hool to have their children educated so they can be succesful.

As Bill Cosby says, they have to be able to speak English, add and subtract, and read. Given the education system controlled by the Democrat Unions it will never happen. The system must be freed by competition to provide superior ecucation for those that care about their children!

Ask your Democrat congressman or Senator if he or she supports this dramatic change to free the enslaved blacks!

Alarms went off when I saw Rev Jesse pic
Why his picture on your site? Makes me nervous.

I tend to agree, BECAUSE of that pic, you are not truly what you SEEM to be.

You never distance yourself from him or his ilk.

I also would have put Education reform FIRST and ALSO second. Vouchers FIRST, more extensive education reforms second.

While I agree with some kind of African relief, does it even BELONG on this kind of list? It is NOT national policy. Maybe some kind of red herring...

Standing at the Crossroads...
Bishop Jackson, your article was well articulated and clear. I totally agree!!!

Gifted
Inequity is relative. Everyone of every background experiences bad luck, hostile cheap shot artists, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Most of us see folks born to rich parents, born with incredible talents, perhaps just drop dead good looking. There are many gifts and few indeed who have them all. It is so easy and human to envy, to focus on the negative instead of opportunity. Any able bodied person born in America who reaches adulthood in decent shape is amonst the lucky and blessed. To be there and whine puts a person in a group nobody likes or respects. I reserve my sympathies for the like of folks dealing with life in Nigeria or North Korea. If you find life oppressive where you are, my frank suggestion is to move to where you are more appreciated.

DanD writes
Well said DanD. Nontheless i have hopes for the Rev. Harry J and the agenda of men like Sowell and Connerly. As well as my respect and admiration. And best wishes of course.

Standing at the Crossroads
I can't wait to read more about the Black Contract with America on Moral Values. Do you think either party is really ready to embrace the truth about the societal inequities that have been perpetuated against our people?

It's you, at least from where I stand. Others' mileage may vary.

"The issue is that sex and self-centered animalistic behavior does not foster a strong society that we would generally care to join."

Well then, address the sex issue (or at least conception control). Marriage does not = sex necessarily. Mine was proof of that.

"For better or worse, children take considerable time and training and "investment" to raise to independent and responsible adults who are not antisocial."

Yes, I agree, but what about the ones that are already here? I still say education #1. We can legislate that. Marriage you can't. You can pass laws to _favor_ it, but that's about all.

I'll admit it's a chicken-and-egg argument.

Is it me?
Or does it seem that the right believes in trying to keep young black men from going down the path that leads to prison, and the left wants to make their stay in prison more pleasant?

Origin of conservatism…

“The conservative message needs to reach and transform black clergy who have a legitimate base of authority in the local community.” –Harry Jackson

Perhaps we have misunderstood you. Conservatism needs the foundation in truth provided to it by the Scriptures and in the history of freedom. Don’t trade the gospel for conservatism.

Conservative principles including the rule of law under the authority of Scripture, the sanctity of life, property and marriage, the freedom of religion and limited government of a self governing people flow from our Christian heritage.

The black church should not reject this heritage because of slavery. The ideals are in the Declaration, that all men are created equal before God, and that our rights derive from God. The purpose of our form of government is to insure those rights. The practice of slavery would have resolved without civil war.

Consider the life of Joseph. His statement as governor of Egypt after the death of his father to his brothers who had sold him into slavery is unsurpassed in the Scriptures to teach us of the goodness and sovereignty of God toward His people. “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” [Genesis 50:20] God taught Joseph in his sufferings what he could not otherwise learn. God overruled the circumstances that befell Joseph in order to bring good from evil.

How many black American slaves shared the same testimony? They were sold into a cruel slavery, but many escaped their native paganism and discovered the grace of God in the gospel message they heard in America.

The story of Joseph is really the story of every believer. We are all born a bond servant to our own sin. Conversion frees us from slavery so we can be a bond servant of Jesus Christ. He is able to renew our minds from our blindness and ignorance.

Preach the gospel. This is the primary function of the church. Grace is the only principle that will transform men into independent, responsible and self-supporting men who desire freedom above dependence. These are the men who will change the culture.

Protecting marraige.....
A full family unit with married mother and father is a self sustaining economic unit that does not need to be dependent upon the state(and therefore the taxpayers) for survival. A single mother and child(the default satatus of most black families and many families from other races) is MUCH more likely to be economically stagnant and dependent, with little to no upward mobility of a self sustaining nature.

protecting marriage...
Jay,

Protecting marriage means a lot more than prohibiting gay marriages. Sometimes it's called protecting the family or family values. The issue is that sex and self-centered animalistic behavior does not foster a strong society that we would generally care to join. For better or worse, children take considerable time and training and "investment" to raise to independent and responsible adults who are not antisocial. A nanny-state government that takes responsibility for children from cradle to grave and "dismisses" the biological parents from any responsibility is a recipe for cultural suicide. So is the notion that as an adult, you don't need to be responsible for yourself. Govt can just tax those who were responsible to pay for your hedonism and indiscretions. Somebody else will always be responsible for your misbehavior.

Marriage should looked at as a framework for raising a family in the best possible way for for improving yourself at the same time. Serious consideration of a spouse will allow you to include characteristics beyond sex-appeal (common interests, complementary strengths, etc.) to ensure that the 2 of you will have a rewarding life and family that will make you proud. In a religious context, marriage is a covenant before God, but for those who do not accept God, this is incomprehensible.

some observations...
Remember...

The first 3 topics sound interesting. The last 3 sound more provocative and I hope a good case is presented. For example, healthcare is not a right. Even 50 years ago, the healthcare available today could not even be imagined. The thing that scares me about govt run healthcare is that govt will work to ensure that the current level of healthcare is available to all rather than motivating anybody to improve healthcare. And govt licensing or certification is no guarantee of quality, either. If it were, we wouldn't have the malpractise problems today since virtually every malpractise suit involves a licensed physician or healthcare provider.

Discrimination and racism are not necessarily one and the same. See Walter Williams recent column, for instance.

Religion has only moral persuasion while government has the force of arms to compel its subjects to behave in a specific manner. The difference is particularly striking when you look at how each is funded.

Many educated people have difficulty looking ahead and seeing the inevitable and unintended consequences of government action or inaction. Even in hindsight, we can never know what would have happened if the government (any government) had operated differently. Religious leaders who rely on government action to compel certain behavior from its followers are just as blind when crystal ball gazing as anybody else. We need to reframe the conflict between conservatives and liberals into one between authoritarians and libertarians. Libertarians aren't always right, anymore than anybody else. However, the consequences of their behavior fall almost entirely on themselves. Libertarians are motivated to consider the longer term consequences in a way that pandering politicians never will. When authoritarians make a mistake, no matter how noble the underlying intentions, somebody (usually a lot of somebodies) end up paying. I'm not a member of the Libertarian party, and I'm not an anarchist. I do believe government has a role. I just believe the role is best served at the most local form of government possible. The beauty of our constitution, which is seldom told, is that it doesn't give the people rights, but that it restrains and constrains the government of overstepping its authority. It is ironic that most discussion of rights these days usually mean requiring some new government law or action that actually tramples on somebody's rights. John Stossel has written on that in this forum, but F. Hayek's writings are the Bible on this.

Chuck is such a trip. If he and his ilk would take the time to review, they would see that moderate President Bush has many critics from the conservative movement. However, the effect of the extreme liberal hate for Mr Bush has been to cause conservatives who otherwise have concerns and problems with the president to rally around him. Once again, the unintended consequences of liberal action may turn out to be counter-productive to their stated objectives. We can only hope!

The 6 points
I fail to see how "protection" of marriage (protecting it from what?) helps black America.
Somebody explain to me the logic behind putting that #1.

I'd say education reform is #1. With education, you can go anywhere, then wealth creation solves itself. With jobs and hope in the future, the prison problem solves itself, too. Health care I'd put at #2.

If a kid is born out of wedlock, protecting marriage won't help him one whit, because his parents never were married. Am I missing something plainly obvious?

David, the fatal flaw in your.....
...assertion that we should immediately begin treating whites and blacks exactly the same is that there would be an adjustment period that would leave blacks at a disadvantage for a generation or so, and that would afford the media too many opportunities to undermine and ultimately doom the process, at which point people would be left with the impression that it was a flawed approach to begin with, and the current welfare state solution would be embraced even more.

Sorry about the run-on sentence.......

All Cultures Are Not Created Equal
The black culture in America seems to be the only culture with spokespersons. Curiously these spokespersons are selected not by the blacks, but by Liberals and their media accomplices. These spokespersons mantra is of black victimization. They preach irresponsibility, that black’s actions have no consequences. Most current spokespersons are all called Reverends but have no congregation. They have created a culture that doesn’t work and through political correctness and racism have prevented corrections, even from within. People who want to help, like Bill Cosby, Thomas Sowell, and now Juan Williams are marginalized. These black spokespersons and their liberal media accomplices have hurt the black culture as much, if not more, than slaveholders in previous generations.
Blacks need to look toward better leaders. The black church, the center of black political activity, should provide these leaders. A culture that values marriage for raising children, education, responsibility and initiative for advancement, helping others by their own actions, and a civilization based on even application of just laws and opportunity, not quotas, should be appealing to all.
It was Abraham Lincoln, a strong abolitionist most of his adult life, that when elected precipitated the dissolution of the union. In the process of restoring the union he was able to free the slaves and lost his life as a result. Now that’s real sacrifice and commitment. Abraham Lincoln made the following statements that speak to what I believe is the Republican attitude: 1) You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. 2) You cannot help the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. 3) You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. 4) You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
The first three emphasize the importance of having a strong foundation of business and entrepreneurial risk to provide a basis for our prosperity. The last, and most important, shows that personal responsibility, not victimization is the answer to personal and ultimately community progress. If you look the Democratic Party philosophy of today you will note that they favor just the opposite of what Lincoln favored

Equality, religion, etc.
One of the things that I really enjoyed about this article is that someone somewhere has actually outlined a plan to do something and not sit around complaining. For that alone I have to admire this man.

I grew up in 1950's Mississippi. I saw first hand the discrimination that was present at that time. My sympathy lay with the black people but you could not express this as it would mean certain death. I returned to Mississippi a few years ago. The discrimination was gone, period. In its place were many angry black men and women. Fifty years later they had not really progressed. It was obvious that the attitude was due to their resentment of the white man and his holding them back. To a great extent I must agree, but not in the manner that you would think. These people should have progressed with the lifting of discrimination rules of the 50's. But instead they were replaced with the apoligist white who feels he is doing something by giving hand outs and treating people as if they can not care for themselves. Quotas, welfare in any form, bending the law and social norms to allow people by that will not act by the rules. These things have a telling affect on a society and we are seeing the dividend. The video of the Katrina affair was enough to sum up what has happened. My answer. Start immediately to treat blacks as any white. Same expectations, same preformance level, ect.

As to religion and conservatives. I am intensely conservative and feel that religion is another form of liberalism. By that I mean that religion uses government just as to socialist do. We are not free by any means to do as we desire and that is because of religion of the right and socialism of the left. Abortion is a good example. The religious among us are trying to outlaw it to the extent that it is their one over rideing issue. They will elect the sleazist of politician simply because of their stand on this one issue. The war on drugs and other idiot concerns are equal in this respect. We need a minimal government and people should be left to do as they please as long as it does not hurt others. Preachers can then do their jobs to establish a moral path and not have government dictate this. There is not enough room for me to elaborate on how this program and others are doing more harm than good.

And finally Chuck. Bush is a liberal. He attended a liberal school. His family is from Conn. not Texas. Other than the Iraq war, his agenda has been spend, spend, spend. His one tax cut was a joke and I am one of the people it should have benefited. Even the Iraq war is out of the Dem. play book, I supported it in the beginning but it has now taken a liberal slant and he needs to return to killing Arabs, as many as possible. Your understanding of politics and the world is summed up in your misunderstanding of Skull and Bones.

Chuck
Chuck is a trip.

This is very important article. The time has come that Dr. Harry Jackson, a true conservative voice has risen to speak to our nation. It is time for black america to wake up, listen with their heart and understand truth rather than rhetoric that our so called leaders Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakan have been feeding us.

Standing at the Crossroads
Bishop Jackson expresses a sentiment that a great many African Americans feel. I'm looking forward to his future commentaries and I will comment/respond as appropriate.

Chuck: I don't trust your group-think
Chuck:
Speaking as a Jesuit-educated Deist who none the less believes in the salient values associated w/ Judeo-Christian Philosophy, I don't trust self-righteous, poverty pimps (Jesse Jackson, etc.) that comprise the majority of minority clergy and their entitlement-minded hyphenated- American flocks. Not all black-Americans- just the 80% that vote in block IOT support the party that routinely engages in the racial spoilage game in perpetuity: Affirmative Action, quotas, welfare state, earned income tax credit, etc. I’m also speaking as a minimally franchised white male who none the less is part of the majority of the top 50% of income earners in this country that pay 96% of the income taxes- taxes that finance that welfare state that inordinately benefits the aforementioned hyphenated-American voting block. I don’t trust your group-think. Kindly remove yourself from the “Plantation” and start thinking as an individual instead of a member of a special interest group.

Chuck
What is this anti-Christian diatribe that you're on have to do with anything? So much of what you say is foolish, ignorant sophistry.

You assert that Christianity and conservatism are one in the same, but not so fast! The conservative movement does have a large Christian element, but it ode not have some religious test for membership. Anyone of any faith, or no faith at all, can find a home in the consevative movement. That is because conservatism is a set of political principles that appael to many; it is the liberals that have the abortion litmus test that has driven most true Christians out of liberal movement.

You also imply that conservatives treat GWB as a Christ figure when no one does that at all. Christians simply see someone that holds the same religious and moral values that they have and are attracted to that, much as the amoral or immoral left was attracted to the Clintons and Kennedys.

You assert that the Bush administration has told numerous lies and broken many laws. Well, where's the proof? And don't give me examples of flawed intel or 'laws' that have only been broken in the fevered minds of you liberals. I want you to back up your outrageous claims with real, hard, verifiable EVIDENCE! But I won't hold my breath waiting on you to do so.

As for your nonsense about the repentance of GWB, that is between that man and GOD. We believers cannot repent for anyone else, nor can we forgive their sins... that is what GOD is for.

And we do pray for our leaders in accordance with the Scriptures, whether we like them or not. We pray for their safety, for their well being, and that they will govern wisely and well. We prayed for Clinton, even though he was basically a reprobate, and we pray for our elected leaders now. Liberals seem to only pray and wish for calamity, and based on some plays, books, and films the death of our President and anyone else that disagrees wih their agenda. How do YOU reconcile that, Mr. Psuedo-Christian Chuck?

As for Skull and Bones, it is not a cult as it is nor religious in anture from what I have read of it. It does seem to fly in the face of Biblical teachings against secret societies...but that is an issue that GWB has to address himself. But, I am sure that YOU were calling on old Lurch F. Kerry to renounce Skull-and-Bones in the last Presidential election, weren't you?

And when did you hateful people on the left finally decide that it was time to move from the Hitler comparison to Antichrist? That's a new one...but just the logical progression for you liberal troll idiots to make.

It is always funny to see unbelievers like yourself try to use Scricture to condemn the believer. Do you not realize that all you are doing is proving to us all that you are foolish unbelievers with no knowledge of what Scripture either says or means.

You, sir, are now dismissed!

Chuck you didn't really address the....
....article. Fine collection of insults and rhetorically charged talking points though. I hope your rant gave you the emotional release you apparently needed so badly.

Jesus loves you, and blacks(and the American underclass in general) deserve better than the fatherless welfare culture the dems have been offering them so far.

Sorry Chuck
The Scribes and Pharisees were driven by the letter of the law and placed form superior to function. That is the essence of today's liberalism and the Democrat Party. Now that I have finished with that distraction...

Bishop Jackson,

Your article is timely and compelling. I would like to see some details to your six points of concern. Skip raised two great points. Wealth Creation is half of the equation, it must be coupled with Capital Formation to generate the benefits of free enterprise capitalism. Education reform is best accomplished at the local level. Parents have to think of schools as a key to their children's future, and not as a "free" baby sitting service. As for health care, yes it is expensive, but not as expensive as its absence. Again, it is a issue with numerous facets, and I look forward to seeing additional details of your proposals.

Have a wonderful day, and please follow-up soon.

Yours in Christ,

John.

Standing At the Crossroads---
Dear Harry R. Jackson, Jr,

Please see the comments by "Chuck" above. You, Bill Cosby, Juan Williams, and others who "get it" have a long, long way to go to overcome the propaganda that has inundated your people from the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Ted Kennedy, Richard Durbin, etc. over these many years.

Democratic mantra that believes in abortion (15,000,000 dead black babies), is against school choice (horrible inner city schools), is against Social Security reform (current system severely penalizes blacks), preaches "victimology" (blacks are not responsible), demands "the government" support black babies that are allowed to be born instead of their fathers, has literally destroyed the black community. Black population growth is severely below the level required to maintain your numbers. Your people are literally disappearing from the nation.

Until the black community "gets it" that the Democrats have subjugated them by buying their votes with "free" money, knowing full well their policies are destroying them, nothing will change.

Larger Than Life
Jackson...this column is going to be great! I will look it up each week. I am anxious to see what you will say on each of these six areas. More importantly, as a Christian, I want to know what I can do to make a difference, even with the pressing daily agenda that I have (like most other people I know).

Standing at the Cross Roads
Bishop Jackson !

While I agree with some of the more salient points of your article, and I see you as a great man of God, I don’t trust the Christian conservative movement or most Republicans and only 90% of Democrats. To me most conservatives are not really believers in Jesus or his word, when I listen to them they sound like a group of mostly white greedy neo-fascists racist looking for a moral bandwagon (the bible and Christianity), to jump on. The conservative movement has peaked the interest or should I say, are in bed with the power brokers in all forms of media with their multi-layered platforms and slick organization. If real conservative Christians will began to tell the truth about say for instance, George W. Bush and not declare that they can all see the nail holes in his hands. I will then maybe start to see the movement as having some form of creditability. Let me explain: The President and his administration has told numerous lies, broken several laws and committed crimes against humanity, and conservative pundits or anyone of Fox News, turn a blind eye and break out into uncontrollable cheerleading and shouts of praise, as if the president as see walking on water. If anyone dears to mentions any form of opposition or questions their anointed King George, they, the conservative media goes on their “well known” attack. While it’s the mission statement of conservative commentators to only focus on the Presidents more positive attributes like: anti abortion efforts and the ban on gay marriage, they overlook the other side of the story. So much for “Fair and Balanced” smells like “fraud and sham”.

I understand the word tells us to "Pray the King" or for “those who have rule over us”, I understand that all authority or leadership is appointed by the Father. But not all leadership is not righteous, remember Adolph Hitler was a leader. Therefore in that light shouldn't we be praying for the repentance of the president’s diabolical deeds or for the Father to have mercy on him for his sins and tremendous responsibility of his job, and not act like he can do no wrong. In closing, President George Bush is member of a Satanic Cult (skull & bones), and has never denounced it or his membership. Now if you want to pray, that’s something to pray about…

As the late great bible expositor Derek Prince once said, "I believe that the sprit of antichrist will come from a man who will have a ultra moral and conservative political back ground replacing Jesus for morals"

The Republican Party = Today’s Scribes and Pharisees

Dreaming
The Daddy Party isn't ever going to make significant in-roads on a population in which 80+% of children are raised by their Mommy alone.

bad family = bad community = bad politics

I can't wait.
I look forward to the in depth examination of a couple of the issues Reverend Jackson enumerated.

1. African relief:

I have no idea how many American dollars have been sent to various African nations to finance relief for starving citizens in those countries. I would guess billions. I will welcome a practical solution to the problem of corrupt leaders of African nations who steal most of the money that is intended for their people, and show absolutely no concern for those people.

2. Prison reform:

Again I await Reverend Jackson's solution regarding prison reform. I really can't imagine what that solution would entail. Having worked with criminal populations for over thirty years, and witnessing many innovative attempts to effect rehabilitation via the prison systems, I want to know what has not been tried.

I appreciated Bill Cosby's observations about black communities looking within to address black crime. So far he has not received much support from people like Jessie Jackson, whose picture in this article I find irritating.

One suggestion I have is that we all get away from any notion that racism is the reason for the dispropoertional number of young black men in prisons. Reverend, my advice to you is don't go there.

I like this article. I have one big picture problem; you state African American as a title for people, but then describe everything as Black and White Church. I strongly believe that everyone is an American and then you can say you are a Black or White American. I realize that there issues Black Americans have and need to pursue those to the fullest extent. This may be semantics but a very critical step is moving forward in our American society. I understand decades ago that even White Americans called each other German American or Irish American and that caused some differences in our society, but at some point in time that gave way to just being one and that was an American. We all have different family histories.

I also understand the GOP has had many chances to improve the lifes of Black Americans and did not grab a hold of those ideas and implement critical policy's. The GOP must state its message to Black Americans as well to all Americans and continue to deliver a consistent message based on principals.

I really like the fact that you have emperical research reflecting the Black American church and how to best influence the Black American vote. Well done! Knowledge is power.
