Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

President Bush will leave office on Tuesday, and a majority of Americans aren't disappointed to see him go. The country is experiencing a painful recession, enduring an unpopular — albeit successful — war, and people are generally eager to allow a new team to assess and tackle the nation's mounting problems. President Bush also appears ready to relinquish the heavy burdens of the presidency and quietly enter private life back in Texas. Liberals have been literally counting down the days to January 20, 2009 since Bush's re-election victory, and grumbling from the Right has grown steadily louder as the Republican President failed to live up to conservative principles on a number of occasions. In short, precious few people will miss President Bush. But I will.

I had the extraordinary opportunity to serve as a White House intern during Bush's second term. During my short time there, I was struck by the profound decency of the President, as well as the professionalism, dedication, patriotism and sacrifice displayed by his staff. When I would pass through security each morning around 7:45, the President and his top advisers had already been on the job for hours. Every single day. Rain or shine. Although the administration had been battered and bruised from all sides, morale remained surprisingly high due, in large measure, to the President's determined optimism and work ethic. Every day he lived out a passion for protecting this country, and doing so honorably. This outlook commanded enormous respect and affection from his staff, the overwhelming majority of whom remain loyal to their boss, despite all the negative attention paid to a disgruntled few.

Perhaps the most frustrating element of Bush hatred is the widely held perception that he is an unintelligent, uncaring, intellectually incurious man. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Many people unfairly dismiss his degrees from both Yale and Harvard as the benefits of a famous last name. Even fewer people are aware of his voracious reading habits. And only a small handful of people have ever experienced President Bush unplugged, pouring out his heart in an off-the-record conversation without a microphone in sight. I had the honor of witnessing such an event.

In the fall of 2007, my office helped coordinate a bill-signing on the third floor of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, a stately edifice standing directly west of the White House itself. The invited guests included a small group of young business leaders from around the country. Right before President Bush made his entrance, a pack of reporters and photographers were herded into the back of the room, only to be hustled away shortly after the official event had concluded. Believing that the event was over, I made a move for a side exit to head back to my office. One of my superiors caught my eye as I approached the door, and mouthed the word "stay." Needless to say, I did.

Moments later, an aide requested that everyone put away any cameras or other potential recording devices because the President was about to entertain some off-the-record questions from the remaining guests. The next 40 minutes were breathtaking. In this relatively intimate setting, President Bush answered a wide range of questions — many of which were far from sycophantic — with a degree of confidence, ease, self-deprecation, and intensity that I had never seen from him. He spoke movingly about his relationship with his father. He joked cheekily about his own malapropisms and his critics. He lightly pounded his fist on the podium while mounting a stirring defense of the Iraq war. His deep understanding of a myriad of intricate issues was undeniable, and he utterly captivated the room.

This, sadly, was the President Bush that few Americans ever saw. As a Bush supporter who'd spent many personal conversations defending him, his brilliant Q&A performance was stunning even to me. I commented to a colleague that if only the whole country could see him in his element, his popularity ratings would spike considerably. Alas, it was too often the President's critics, and his mistakes — real or manufactured — that shaped his public image. The anti-Bush media, desperate to preemptively destroy his legacy, is already nattering about whether he could be the worst president ever. This is nonsense. President Bush is right to suggest that the distance of history will be his most impartial judge, free of the poisonous partisanship that characterizes much of our contemporary discourse. Still, some of his accomplishments are readily identifiable today.

Some of the Bush administration's best decisions and finest chapters came on the heels of failure. The attacks of 9/11 caught the government off-guard and revealed dangerous blind spots in our national security strategy. Bush acted decisively, and protecting the country became a daily obsession. Yes, he's been hammered relentlessly on his tactics, but they achieved results: Zero terrorist attacks inside the United States after that horrific fall morning. That's a feat that seemed nearly impossible in the aftermath of the attacks.

The war effort in Iraq was sliding into the abyss midway through Bush's second term, and the Defense Secretary seemed to have outlived his usefulness in the position. With deaths mounting and public opinion fading fast, the President pulled the trigger on an audacious plan to double-down in Iraq with a controversial troop surge. Even many Republicans cautioned against the move, in many cases for political reasons, yet Bush rebuffed their counsel. The new strategy, along with its new commander and fresh leadership at the Pentagon, has paid enormous dividends. The level of stability in Iraq as Bush leaves office is remarkable. So remarkable, in fact, that the anti-Bush media have virtually stopped covering it because it no longer serves its one-time purpose as prime Bush-bash material.

Poor personnel decisions like the Harriet Miers misadventure and Scott McClellan's atrocious tenure also led to vast improvements. The hapless McClellan was finally replaced by the late, great Tony Snow, followed by Dana Perino, which served as a crucial upgrade from a messaging standpoint. Alongside communications advisors Ed Gillespie and Kevin Sullivan, the last two Bush press secretaries restored competent, likeable, public relations to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The ill-advised Miers Supreme Court nomination galvanized conservatives against President Bush's choice, prompting him to right the ship by nominating an impeccable candidate, who will likely serve as justice for decades to come. Conservatives of all stripes — limited government advocates, national security hawks, and social traditionalists — will be thankful for at least this element of the Bush legacy, especially when the next president begins filling the federal bench with a roster of ACLU all-stars.

Beyond the political and policy legacy President Bush will leave behind, I am grateful that for the last eight years, the country has been led by a man with enormous respect for the office he's held, and who made it his primary mission to keep my friends and family safe from those who seek our destruction. He endured countless indignities — from mean-spirited critics to humiliating betrayal — with grace and class, and without resorting to vindictive or petty retaliation. And although quite a few of Bush's decisions have angered and disappointed me through the years, I never once doubted his motives or his character. For those reasons alone, I say: Thank you, President Bush.

Missing GWBush........
It is not a very "FEW" Americans who will miss him......but instead; nearly 50% of the nation. Every vote for McCain was a vote to retain the Bush policies. Most of us weren't for McCain but that is who we got stuck with. Romney was the better of the two choices and he had real financial expertise to offer us in this recession. I can't recall just how many votes McCain got but.......we were voting for BUSH. I don't know any Republican that doesn't agree with me on this. Linda

Thank you Mr. Benson
Everyone should also know that W did more to help Africa than any president has ever done. Look up Bob Geldof's article form Time magazine last year. NO ONE should criticize Bush without getting the (very quietly kept) facts about his aid (and that inclued AIDS) to Africa.

Thanks Mr. Benson
I too appreciate the President's efforts over the last 8 years. Both he and his wonderful wife served our beloved country well. I also know they must be greatly relieved that the torch is now passed. May God bless them and their family.

And God bless those who have served us in the military and those who continue to serve today. We are forever in your debt!

Hey Guy ;I'd like to Reply
I am not knocking that your opinion of Bush is not right about him being a nice man and all,but it is not how early you arrive at
work;it's what you get done while you are there, and answering questions about your dad, joking about your own malapropisms and your critics does not qualify you to run a country
and it is not Bush that has kept you and your family safe for the past 8 years;it is God that has kept us all safe all of our lives. When it comes down to the bare facts, none of us know what is going to happen from one day to the next(Ecclesiates:9th chapter verses 11 and 12)not to mention the next 4 years.May God Bless not only America but the entire world.

Barney, Washington State
Well, thats two of us. I will miss them both, and think they both did a excellent job. Time will absolve him of all this mess now. Now the Congress and the Senate, thats another story. What a bunch of do-nothing SLUGS.

fROM A DISTANCE I WATCHED
From a distance I watched as President Bush and Laura represented our nation with such class and grace. He put us first, scarificed popularity and didn't back down. History will prove he did the best he could during such unsettled times for the world and for our America. I wish them both inner peace, happiness, and good health. My belief in this man with a great heart, this wonderful couple is still strong as ever. A CLASS ACT HAS LEFT OUR WHITEHOUSE AND I'LL MISS THEM TERRIBLY!

Thanks President Bush
It wont matter, all the good things that are said here about President Bush and his wife Laura...We Americans have already fallen into the complacent trap that happens far to much in this country. When 9-11 happened to our great nation, we rose up and met the challenges ahead..."as one"...and who do people in this country think was leading us through the event that has forever changed this country? Nancy Pelosi? Barak Obama? We all know who it was and we should be forever greatful of his leadership...President Bush was the catalist that has kept this country safe since 9-11...Thank you former President Bush..Sure he made mistakes but name one President we have had that hasnt made them...Being an American, I wish B. Obama well, and hope he does a good job. But remember people "He puts on his pants just like the rest of us, he's just a man".

No limit 2 what a MAN can acomplish
if he doesn't mind who gets the credit!

Polls B damned the president can choose 2 do whats BEST instead of whats convenient. He could have leaned from the master (CLINTON) but he learned from his DAD & ronald reagan instead. Do what needs 2 B done, as LINCOLN did, as TRUMAN did. The US of A is worth it when U R blessed w/ the presidency. It isn't a gift, it's a honor if U do it right. KUDOS 43. THX

One "cultist" in the entire
state of Kansas, and he has to land here. You really are a scumbag, aren't cha'. The decent vs. the indecent. Fools like you, stay the hell away from our decent families. You have to live in Lawrence, cause that's the only place in the state that would put up with an indecent "cultist" like you!! Your a Hale-Bopper aren't cha', yeah sure ya' are. Glomned onto the "messiah" until your comet comes back, right, "bopper"!

Todays
"demonstration", that is the Inauguration, what these scumbags did to President Bush, chanting, taunting, him when he was at the dais was a new low even for them. President Bush has more class in his jock strap, than all these "cultists" have combined. Someday, someday, these fools will get their due, someday.

It is all out war, the decent vs. the indecent. The only solution, is to keep them the hell away from our decent families. Give them San Francisco and Manhattan, but keep them the hell away from us.

Thank yoiu President Bush
As has been said by others on this thread, you and Laura have been a pleasant and beneficial change in our country's leadership.

Your tax cuts in the early part of the administration did wonders for our economy
that few people realize.

Your work in Iraq has been great. Perhaps women there and other islamic areas can have a say in the powers that govern them.

What happened with the Mexican border? We know there are lots of trade offs in politics, things that can't be talked about. But most people expected the border to be firmed up forthwith. No amnesty for illegals. Too many illegals alegiance is in Mexico. What kind of U.S. citizen is that? Dims were flooding them in believing that 80% would vote Dim. Probably so. What were Republicans thinking???

All in all, you did a good job. As Goveernor of Texas, you pushed thru some legislation that clipped flight feathers on trial lawyers. Helped our state get out of the grasp of these greedy ##@%@@. It scared the trial lawyers so bad, they thought you would do it nationally, so they came up with a plan.

Teach rank and file Dems to learn to say "hate George Bush"! They did. Dems are good haters. They LOVE to hate. They screamed it every day from the housetops. Trial lawyers gave them more money than anyone else. So, we had eight yeats of pure, unadulterated, screaming hate. Trial lawyers say when you don't have the facts, pound the table,
their hate campaign was tatamount to pounding the table. (Could someone else's name stand eight years of hate?) Also, on the Bush second term, they fielded two stallwart trial lawyer types for Pres. and VP. John Kerry and John Edwards.

Why did the bias brigade at the New York Times and three major TV networks pick it up too?
They are so full of socialists and communists there are few in those places that can think of anything else.

Guy Benson's Thank You column is Great
Thank You Guy Benson for what should be said loud and clearly. So much stuff has been mostly unfairly blamed on POTUS #43. I hope that he is sent a copy of your column.
Thanks again.

Thank You President Bush
I agree with your article. I appreciate what President Bush did while he was in office, in spite of the Bush haters and crazy left wing media. I don't agree with all of his decisions either, but have we ever had a perfect president? I am much better off than I was eight years ago. The next four years are going to be dreadful. God help our country!

A Crying Shame
Late this afternoon I watched ex-president Bush make one of his best,if not THE best speech of his presidency,in my opinion. He had arrived in Midland,Tx.

What was surprising ( and maybe not surprising, come to think of it) that I checked to see if ANY other channel was carrying it. Sure enough,FOX was the only one,and they left a few minutes before it was finished.

Now,I know he is just an ex,but why not give him the respect as having his last speech televised? Most of the other channels were showing re-airs of earlier broadcasts.

Yet,we are told we should 'all come together' and welcome the new POTUS. Well, buckos, that goes both ways. Feelings cannot be forced and after all the vitriol we have read from the left...it may just take a while to 'come together'. Frankly,my dears,I don't give a darn.

................
Overall Bush did a good job. The spineless Republicans who controlled congress were the main problem.

Teflon Don
Oh right idiot. And polls show that only 5% of African Americans think they are better off than they were in 1968.

Nell
I think history will judge him as a man not up to the task after his two terms. No wonder this country has problems. There are so many brainless idiots like you running around. I think history will prove that your whole family was and still is completely brain damaged.

Thank You
George W. Bush was a fine president. I certainly didn't agree with all of his policies either, but he kept us safe for seven years. He was a man of principle. My favorite "Bushism" is "I didn't compromise my soul to be a popular guy". God bless him and our country!

Thank you President Bush
My warmest thanks go to you, President Bush and Mrs. Bush. Your exemplary behavior brought class and respectability back to the White House less anyone forgot about the sleezy Clinton years. What your despicable critics overlooked was that no one is breaking down the door to get into the White House. When I think about the enormous responsibility of the office of President of the United States of America, again I thank you for doing a fine job that few could handle as well. I do agree that history will reevaluate your effort and achievements and we, Americans will be pleased to have lived and known you as our President who kept us safe after 9/11/01. I pray that President Obama will do as well even though I have many doubts. The President of Death has aligned himself with the immoral majority that call evil good and good evil and therefore he has angered the real boss of this country, i.e. if indeed God is still on the throne after all of the requests that He be evicted. God help us and may God bless you with a peaceful life. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Amen
This was a great column in honor of President Bush. While I didn't agree with everything he did (he's not God, okay, people), we had a man that did his very best to keep this nation safe and healthy for the last eight years. God bless, you, sir!

Yes, thank President Bush, & Guy Benson
FINALLY a fitting tribute to the departing President Bush. After all the quasi-hit pieces coming from supposedly "conservative" columnists -- not to mention the expected hatchet jobs from leftists -- it's great to see someone give President Bush credit where it's due.

G-d's speed President Bush. You certainly deserve a good rest after eight years of bile and belligerence from the "old media" (aka "mainstream" media: Hah! They are anything but mainstream!).

Open invite
Open invitation to a great conservative blog website where honest debates on the issues is always welcomed. Stop by for a visit and sit a spell. It is my favorite conservative site and we are generally civil and respectfully to one another opinions and enjoy civil debates on all the current issues. The web address is http://noleftturnz.wordpress.com/

illegals
Illegals need to be stopped as well as muslims coming into this Country.
These rats want nothing more than to spread their "religion" of hate and take us over. All with the help of our cowards in the media.

These b@astards own businesses and funnel huge amounts of money out so they don't pay taxes.

The way to stop them is BOYCOTT any business owned by an arab or one that caters to illegals. And force all the rats to speak ENGLISH.

Resounding 90%??
I'd like to see a breakdown on those figures and the Name/Source of the poll.. I don't trust polls very much. I'm not a *pollster* but even I can take a set of questions and pretty much manipulate the desired result depending exactly on how I present or phrase the question..
I'm TOTALLY retired (from 2 different careers) and I think if U'r depending on choice of President, any President, to totally insure Ur security, U'r much smarter than I..CHEERS

Who will remember?

Who will remember the thousands whose lives were needlessly lost over the last eight years at the hands of illegal aliens?
Tina Davilos was a mother of five. She was stabbed to death in front of a Houston area convenience store last April as she fought off illegal alien Timoteo Rios who was trying to steal her vehicle which contained her four month old baby. She screamed, "My baby, my baby" as she fought with every last ounce of courage she had.
Here's the point, George W. Bush was President for eight years and could have secured our borders from day one. Yet they were left as virtual sieves while our troops kept their oath and hazarded every thing they held dear at his behest to make Iraq's borders unassailable. It isn't conjecture it's a fact.
At least Iraq's Nouri al Maliki feels safe enough to have Mahmoud Ahmadinejad down to Baghdad for a visit.
As a Former Marine Officer I weep for what my nation has lost in terms of blood treasure. I weep for our orphans, for our widows and widowers. I weep for the innocent such as nine year old Jordin Paulder whose precious life was ended on June 5, 2006, in a fahsion beyond horrible. It did not have to happen, nor should it.
You think you were kept safe, count your blessings.
At least W has had a gate installed in his new subdivision in Preston Hollow, at taxpayer expense.
Bravo Zulu George and Semper Fi

amen, guy
decency, patriotism, professionalism, honesty, intelligence and a sense of humor....you are correct, it is too bad more of the american public did not see this. altho, most do have their eyes and minds closed..case in point the election of barry. does anyone know the new email address for W? i would like to send him a thank you note.

stu
Great post. True, too. The left (Blue States)are always looking at the south as poor relatives. The ones you are ashamed of and you don't like very much.

They are in dire straits more so than the south. We are a different breed of cats. If the going gets too rough in Yankee-land...they will just 'trickle on down'.

DFW and Texas
Stu said
Isn't it interesting that the areas of the country hit hardest economically and the states that are in the most financial trouble are blue? Funny how places like Texas and Florida are not hit as hard(no state income tax) and that the DFW area is the best, or at least, one of the best areas economically.

I live in DFW and I'm very grateful to be here...I also welcome President Bush and Laura back to Texas and Dallas with open arms. There are times I wish Texas would be it's own country again and I would gladly let Bush or Perry be our leader.

I am avoiding TV today and pray that we survive the next 4 years!

George W. Bush
Thank you for your article. It confirms my opinion of the man. I didn't like some things he did and didn't do-he was not a real conservative. But he was and is a good man and did what he thought was in the best interest of the country. I resent and deplore the hatred that so many Democrats and liberals and especially the "mainstream media" (to me it is is not at all mainstream-if mainstream means reflecting the mainstream of the U.S. public in attitude and in composition) seemed to have for him. We have many who have a paranoid disorder about Bush and a delusional disorder about Obama-to the level of a mania.
Donald W. Bales

Bush Did Not "Keep Us Safe" From....
1) Recession
2) Illegal Alien Invasion
3) 10 Trillion Dollar Deficit
4) Record Gov't Spending
5) Campaign Finance Reform
6) Stock Market Collapse
7) Henry Paulson
8) AIG, Bear Stearns, Bank America, Citigroup, etc.
9) Chrysler and GM
10) Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, etc. His true legacy is handing the keys to the store to far leftists.

Thank You President Bush
Thank you Guy for a very nice piece. I too, am very thankful for President Bush and his commitment to our safety, his respect for the office and his professionalism and graciousness with members of Congress, even when it was not reciprocated, as well as with other world leaders and media personnel. It is no small wonder (to me) that when the Pope was here, he too, was impressed by the man George Bush is. I too am aware of his mistakes, but I have always felt that he had the best interests of the country in his heart and am proud that he did not make his decisions based on what was the easy or popular thing to do. I am thankful for his respect for the armed forces and his pride in being Commander in Chief. Most of all I am thankful that he did not waver in matters concerning our freedom and safety.

THANK YOU & PRESIDENT BUSH
I TOO WANT TO THANK PRESIDENT BUSH FOR BENG A WONDERFUL PRESIDENT WHO KEPT US ALL SAFE. I TOO, VIEW HIM AS A REALLY SINCERE, SMART, CARING, MORAL MAN WHO LEAD WITH GREAT CLASS.THANK YOU FOR YOUR COURAGE & CONVICTIONS, MY PRESIDENT. I HOPE HE KNOWS MANY OF US RESPECT, CARE DEEPLY FOR HIM & HIS FAMILY, WILL MISS HIM IMMENSELY. I FOR ONE, FEEL LIKE MY CLOSEST & MOST PROTECTIVE BEST FRIEND IS LEAVING ME. THANK YOU FROM THE HEART, PRESIDENT BUSH. GOD BLESS YOU & YOURS AS YOU ENJOY BEING A "CITIZEN." YOU WILL BE A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW.I WILL CONTINUE TO ALWAYS CONTINUE TO KEEP PRES. BUSH & HIS FAMILY IN MY PRAYERS.

THANK YOU TOO, FOR A GREAT ARTICLE, GUY BENSON- THAT ALLOWS US TO EXPRESS OUR THANKS.

KATHLEEN, N.Y.

Thank you
Thank you Mr. Benson and thank you President Bush. We did not always agree, but you had the class and integrity the White House sorely needed. You never bashed anyone who disagreed with you as the liberal media did. No one ever gave any other solutions to the problems we had, only bashing. Everyone blames Bush for the economy failing when the problem is world-wide, not only in the US.

Thank you President Bush for commuting the sentences for the Border Agents. I know because of the rules you could not pardon them, but at least they will be with their families again where they belong.

God Bless You.

Thank you President Bush
Thank you for this piece Guy Benson. How I would have loved to have been in that room with you and George Bush. I have been watching from the sidelines all these years and been truly taken by President's Bush dignity, courage and perseverence to his sense of responsibility for our nation and all peoples amidst the most disrespectful and cruel oppostion by our own citizenry. He did not waver or let polls decide his actions. I will truly miss him also.

Thank You President Bush
I am grateful for the excellent job President Bush has done for keeping our great nation safe since Sept. 11th.
It always bothered me that Bush didn't address the nation more often to defend himself and his policies. I think it would have helped and made a difference in how people feel about him. The media has been unfair to him in my opinion. I certainly don't agree with all his decisions but he really has worked hard day and night to protect our country. He deserves credit for that. I remember how I felt on Sept. 11th and I am forever grateful to President Bush for keeping us safe. Thank you President Bush!

The Late,Great,U.S,A.
I had hope this would not happen. That the naive, uneducated, apolitical first-time voters, and yes,George Soros and ACORN would bring us to the brink of disaster.

But,alas, here we are. About to put into the highest office in the land and perhaps the world,an unknown entity. We have yet to see that he is even a U.S..citizen.

To the millions who voted for a man only because of the color of his skin...shame on you. You have done the rest of us the greatest disservice. Just for an outward appearance, you have sacrificed freedom.

Many of you have no idea of what is in store for you. Many of you may not even care....now. Some of you may even wish for the Government Control in store when this cabal is entrenched with their leader.Barack Hussein Farrakhan Obama.

I also would like to say to these no-voters and Third Party voters whom many of us pleaded to vote against this man for the good of the country...you bear much blame for aiding and abetting the take-over of our society and the downfall of the country.

BLUE STATE BLUES
Isn't it interesting that the areas of the country hit hardest economically and the states that are in the most financial trouble are blue? Funny how places like Texas and Florida are not hit as hard(no state income tax) and that the DFW area is the best, or at least, one of the best areas economically.

Maybe one day, you people will actually figure out that the reason small business owners flee places like California and that Michigan is in a one state depression is that the far left wing politicians are ruining your states.

I think it's hilarious that people from the Boston metro area leave there to live in more tax friendly southern New Hampshire in order to escape the tyrannical taxes of Massachusetts. Then that population from there turns around and votes for Democrats, turning New Hampshire into blue. Voting for the very thing that you are trying to escape.

When are you going to figure out that the reason the cost of living in those places is so much more is because business owners pass on their tax burden in the form of higher prices that you and I consume. The rich never have to pay taxes, they just pass them along to you and I because they are the business owners.

Trickle down doesn't work? Try getting a job from a school teacher or fireman or a poor person. Doesn't work all that well does it?

Do you think that the reason jobs go overseas is because of high taxes or low taxes? We have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world.

This stuff is not rocket science, but your hatred for a single man has suddenly lowered your IQs!

Bill Clinton just happened to be in office when Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and all the rest hit upon the most revolutionary concept in history. Bart Simpson could have been president and he would have gotten credit for the .com boom.

Wake up people...

Thank You,Mr.President
I also want to thank you for many good things that happened on your watch. No other person could have done everything to please everyone and neither did you.

I hope you can relax for years with your family and not let the negative press spoil your retirement.I advise you not to watch the left-wing press who will never give you credit for anything positive.

I would like to commend you also for not repaying hate with hate. How you kept quiet in the face of all the vitriol and lies perpetrated by the left. Especially the left-wing press.

My Recollections of President Bush
I twice voted for President Bush, but since 1960 I have always voted Republican. For his stance on national defense, I support and herald President Bush. Also I applaud his selection of Justices Alito and Roberts.

But Bush is not a conservative. Instead of getting rid of the Dept. of Education, he expanded their power. He added Medicare Part D to the financially ailing Medicare Program hastening its bankruptcy. When he and the then ruling Republican Congress saw the "affordable housing" bubble taking shape, he punted. His massive federal budget deficit expanded our national debt at an astonishing pace. No conservatism there President Bush.

These are what I would have expected from a Democratic Administration, not a Republican one.

GW GETS AN "F"

.....In my opinion the Presidency of George Bush was a disappointment and a colossal failure ...

.....After giving a rousing speech on 9/11 he failed to bring the perpetrator to justice ...he invaded Iraq when it wasn't necessary, and after toppling Saddam he bogged us down on a nation builing mission ...while failing to protect our own Southern border ...

.....He stood the policies of Reagan on their head by increasing the size of government and excessive spending and incurred a massive debt for the next generations to pay off ...

.....He did nothing to advance the cause of Conservatism and gressed the skids for the Socialist wave that is about to overwhelm us ...

.....He can not get out of town fast enough to suit me ...he has damaged the Republican brand and betrayed the conservatives who supported him .....COLOSSUS

Thank you, Guy Benson
In my working-class area in the Northeast, I feel like I am the only person today who is sad to see President Bush (and First Lady Laura, whom I adore) leave the White House. So thank you for this tribute. It captures my own feelings about the man, and it assures me that I am not alone in how I feel. I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future. God knows he deserves it after the last eight years of abuse he has endured from the very people he worked so hard to protect.

Poor America
While I appreciate Bush's strengthening national security, I'm also bothered by the excessive spending, No Child Left Behind (we need to deregulate education), and politicizing Justice (of course, when libs do it, it's supposedly all for the best).

However, we're in for a rocky road. Hillary Clinton as Secstate is going to squander everything gained in India and Africa to hobnob with a European socialist elite, and the Senate's lack of interest in her potential conflicts of interest is utterly appalling. We will probably also see the Justice Department turned into an inquisition against pro-life and pro-heterosexual marriage people--and probably turned on conservative media as well. Things will get all the worse when a Leftist approach to the economic crisis fails.

President Busk
I also, want to thank you President Bush for the safety that you have given us since 9/11.

I realize that the meltdown that we are going thru was started way back before you or your Fathers time.

I sincerly pray that this new regime will not hurt us too much, although I have my doubts.

With Pelosie, reid, barny, noboma and the other dims at the helm, I'm afraid that we are going to run upon the rocks.

From the cradle to the grave? Dims, WAKE UP!!

History's judgement
After years of opposing most of Bush's policies, on the eve of the inauguration, I feel only pity for the poor man who has already been deemed irrelevant in the US and the world. I think history will eventually judge George W Bush as a man who was simply not up to the task during his two terms.

Whether or not I am better off...
is completely up to me. Whoever is in the White House has little bearing on whether or not I am a success. My success or failure is the result of my own hard work and perseverance.

Unfortunately, too many people literally or figuratively line up at the government trough and expect the "gubmint" to take care of them cradle to grave.

Whether or not we are better off is a testament to our own determination, not the occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

For one day...
can't you liberal trolls go celebrate the socialization of America and let those of us who appreciate President Bush's excellent service to this country have a moment to thank him? Go peddle your crap somewhere else for today.

Thank you, President Bush. You will be missed.

My thoughts in May 2007
First I would like to thank you Mr President Bush and your lovely wife Laura, my thoughts in 2007, and they have not changed.

This is one of the poems I have written for my grandsons book for him when he gets home next month after 6 years of helping to protect our country......

"All this bitter, selfless talk about the war that we are in, is really not helping our dedicated troops to win.....

The more we criticize this war, and the people troops want to save, makes terrorists think their right, and leads the innocent to their graves.....

We should really count our blessings, and everything thats dear, if we do not complete this job, we could be fighting here.....

Other countries would have joined us, if we only did unite, but why should the want to help us, if we are divided in this fight.....

I am sure the Iraq people, must really be confused, as half our country wants to help them, the rest are saying "we lose.....

I pray for all our troops and mission, until we have won, and also pray to shut the mouths of negativity until their job is done.....

My grandson will be on his third mission soon, with all my prayers and love, so before we speak against their job, I pray with all my heart, everyone will hold their tongue, before they even start"......

I would also remind all of us that in 2006 our Dow was 14000, a record high, then our Congress and Senate changed, and then our Dow has dwindled to around 8000, can we really blame President Bush or could it be that nobody trusted the new administration. Do not forget Businesses is what gives us our jobs, not Congress, not The Senate, but the people they want to over tax. I feel Our President and our Troops not only fought in Iraq, their biggest challenge was our self serving asngry Politicians.

God Bless our troops, theirs in charge, their families, our veterans, and God Bless our next President. I just wish that our Present President had the same support.

Thank You
Thank You Mr Guy Benson for your fine article
Thank You, President Bush

I say Thank You, President Bush and God bless.

President Bush
I also like President Bush and no matter what you hear from the media, he is a real leader. His biggest problem was that his opponents on the left can't come up with anything better so they applied the tools they always use which is teardown the person rather than come up with better leadership. The media loves it when that happens because it gives them something to try to sway the public. They didn't do this to sell readership or air time, they did it because they think that under a liberal congress and president that they will be able to assist the president in "ruling" the country. Its all about power and influence.

BUSH, 9/11 & THE HUDSON RIVER MIRACLE
find it highly significant that President Bush's splendid, moving and gracious Farewell Speech summing up his eight eventful years in office, with its focus on the war against terror and national security, was delivered just hours after the miraculous crash of Flight 1549-when an heroic commercial pilot who served in the military safely landed the damaged plane in the frigid cold of the Hudson River saving himself, his crew and a 155 passengers. I find it significant and relevant to the President and his stewardship for the following reasons:

1.One of the lucky passengers John S. Howell of Charlotte, North Carolina was brother to a firefighter who died on 9/11; and 2. the plane once evacuated drifted down river from Midtown Manhattan and came to rest by the USS Intrepid before it recommenced its journey south to Battery Park where amazingly it stopped by Ground Zero as if moved to that spot by God.

Fairwell President Bush: Reprise:my blog
Twas on a 7 November
That day I'll always remember, yes I will
Cause that was the day our democracy died
We never got a chance to cheer him
Never hear nothing but bad things about him
And now, why don't you listen to me while I tell you the truth.

"Dubya said he'd change the tone
Whenever he came into Washington
(But when he tried) All they left him was alone."
"Dubya said he'd change the tone
Whenever he came into Washington
(But when he tried) All they left him was alone."

Well, well

Hey Congress, is it true what they say,
That hanging chads held up the election for nearly two months?
And Congress, some bad talk going around town
Saying that Dubya stole the election in the Al Gore fight
And that ain't right.
Hey, talk about Dubya doing drugs and drive drinkin'
Congress said they'd cooperate and all the time winkin'
Dealing in lies, And blaming Mr. Bush for it all.

"Dubya said he'd change the tone
Whenever he came into Washington
(But when he tried) all they left him was alone."

"Dubya said he'd change the tone
Whenever he came into Washington
(But when he tried) all they left him was alone."

Tell me how old Bush won a second election?
Folks said he'd trample rights just to give us protection
But is anyone there going to tell us the truth?
And Congress? They say that Dubya never was much on thinking
Waste money and time; their approval is sinking.
But we're not depending on them to tell us the truth.

"Dubya said he'd change the tone (well, well, well)
Whenever he came into Washington
(But when he tried) all they left him was alone. Lone, lone, lone, lone alone"
"Dubya said he'd change the tone
Whenever he came into Washington
(But when he tried) all they left him was alone."

Thank you President Bush
I, for one, am better off than I was eight years ago. My Keough Plan and 401(k) flourished in those years before my retirement. Fearing the unknown if a liberal president would be elected, I chose to pay the taxes at the time of distribution. I think I probably did so just in time. I'm free and clear of all indebtedness and traveling the friendly skies without fear of terrorism. I thank you, President Bush, for a feeling of security. I only hope that this feeling doesn't quickly fade with a new administration.

Thank you President Bush.......
for your outstanding leadership, love of country, caring so deeply about us, and primarily for keeping us safe after the mess that the clinton administration left. Our household will truly miss you. Be safe, be happy and may peace be with you and Mrs. Bush. You are simply the best.

And Bush has the class not to
repeat that travesty that Clinton pulled on the day of Bush's inauguration. I will never forgive Slick Willy for staging that slimey farewell event simply to massage his grossly oversized ego. He pulled the military, his security, and media attention into his masquerade and reminded us what a low-class scuzball he was.

Guy, add my name to your list
The first time we are attacked again -- and I believe it will be soon -- a lot of people will begin to realize that this never happened for 7 1/2 years of the Bush Presidency. In retrospect, we will realize how very safe we were for a very long time. Bush answered the attack as a Commander-in-Chief should. I hesitate to think how our new leader will respond. I know only that talking won't work.

Teflon Don
How do you define "better off"?

Please Explain Something to Me
I don't have the animosity toward Bush that many have, but let's be honest, if a democratic president and a democratic hill for 6 of 8 years produced the same results, I am sure you all would have nothing positve to say about the administration and rightfully so. I honestly believe that George Bush is a great man, but so was Jimmy Carter. But lets face it, both were terrible presidents. As far as GWB's intellectual capacity, he once called himself a "C student." Combine that with his misuse of the English language in interviews and speeches, and one would assume that his Ivy League education was predicated on family influence and not academic ability. With that said, I will miss GWB. He was truly entertaining.

Rowly - make that a child on skates:)
Amazingly, nobody can tell you why Hussein will make a great president, although they can tell you, bush was a bad president. Logically, the 'hope' placed in Hussein should rest on a record or experience from his past not on the hatred of the current president. Unfortunately, Hussein lacks any record or experience for his voters to talk about, instead they demonize Bush, hoping that will make Hussein look relatively better as president. In about 8 years, the fools will be able to fathom what we know - Hussein was a child on skates and he left behind a whirl wind of destruction in the name of 'change' and 'hope'. Its laughable because the world according to Hussein is 'if Oprah's private investments in educating inner city youth do not succeed, then tax payers should invest in those same failed schools'. That is the logic that will guid this child on skates as the followers chant 'obama' and drink whatever they drink to arrive at the conclusion a foreign man without any executive experience who needed votes to stop being counted for him to win the 'nomination' will give this nation any kind of 'change'. SERIOUSLY!

angel/angel - about torture
The guys in Gitmo are lucky to be tortured by US marines/soldiers. In their country they would be beheaded in a crowd at best and ....guess what? those who were pardoned are no longer welcome home mmmmmmmm that should give you a different perspective. If these guys are so good, why are they not welcome back home. Furthermore, 60% of those released have been arrested again when caught in terror acts or training camp. Aren't you lucky to have Obama who will not only stop torturing them but release them to join americans in the USA. Maybe if you are very lucky, they will visit somebody in your family and neighborhood. Play the journalists beheading video - then contemplate what these guys deserve. Keep the change!

Taft - under Hussein (the other hussein)
More than 4 million Iraqi's lived in exile, most of them in England. I have friends there. In Iraq over 2 million were murdered and the graves we found represent a few of those. Around the world, dictators can only be overthrown with blood and war. The cost of not intervening like in Rwanda and South Africa means the bullies continue to bully the every day citizens. Don't worry, Obama will let Iran build it's nuclear capability and when we leave Iraq in 2011 (or sooner if Hussein our president wants to do so) then they too will return to their old days of 'exile' and 'murder' without any a witnesses. Get a reality check, the deaths caused by the war are fewer than those caused by Saddam's reign of terror (and those are the deaths we know about).

I Agree With Your, But....
Today the office requires someone who can communicate to the nation, not to 40 friendly people in a room. In 6 years George W. Bush did not explain why nation building in Iraq was important. He needed to sell that every day and NOT ONCE did he do it! As an ardent supporter, he let me down. He thumbed his nose at the nation and said, in effect, "I will take care of it". In that regard he was a fool and trivialized important work.

Thank You for 8 safe years....
Benson, I join you in saying, I will miss Bush. Even though I got signatures to stop the miers mess, and Dubai doozy choice - I still believe he got it right when it came to national security. Obama's decision to keep Gates and company has convinced me that I was right for voting for him.

May God reward him for his service to this great nation. I think after 12 years, many americans will get it. Until then, God Bless Bush and the United States of America.

Angel/

They seem to think that Jack Bauer reflects reality.

Honesty
Stability in Iraq?

‘ At least 4.2 million Iraqis were displaced. These included 2.2 million who were displaced within Iraq and some 2 million refugees, mostly in Syria (around 1.4 million) and Jordan (around half a million).

The ethnic cleansing of Bagdad

"MOSUL, Iraq — Iraqi Christians in the northern city of Mosul say this year has been the worst in living memory. After a wave of killings and attacks in October, more than 2,000 families fled to nearby villages."

Just a few days ago

Baghdad bombs kill eight, wound more than 30

In fact,
They will probably tell you that the reason we haven't had another attack on American soil is that we tortured a bunch of people, and kept children in prison.

It's good to be the torturer.

Taft
Now that you've brought up the subject of torture, you might want to keep reading. Righties love torture, they will start posting messages telling you as much.

Guy
"Yes, he's been hammered relentlessly on his tactics, but they achieved results: Zero terrorist attacks inside the United States after that horrific fall morning."

Funny, even now you can't bring you self to say Bush had people tortured, very often the wrong man, and very often resulting in harmful evidence. If Bush were proud of torturing people he should have said so. His wife, who always seemed to be above such things said..

"We don't torture, we don't believe in torture."

And, how could they, Bush professed to believe that Jesus was histories greatest philosopher, and to trash those ethics would make the a mockery of it all.

What a breath of fresh air
Thanks, Guy, for the article. We know President Bush is a good and honorable man, and we will surely miss him. I'm very sad that the Republican party has distanced itself from this good man.

Thanks again for saying what needs to be said about him.

President Bush, thank you and may God richly bless you. Many in America and many, many in the world love you.

The List
There seems to be a template of charges that are leveled against Bush, mostly fabricated by the media and regurgitated ad nauseam by their liberal cheerleaders. I suspect that the list will be a look back to the good old days before Obama's reaches midterm.

perhaps overdone
So Bush is an inspiring and artulate leader, but it only 9 years of his national presence before someone finally figured it out. Those perceptive Washington insiders eventually figure things out ... what would we do without them?

Wasteful Spending
$40 million for GW Bush's inaugural! The press had a cow and so did the other Democrats. Such a waste! But then it was after all,Bush, who could not do anything right.

Now 'The One' is spending $170 million and where is the outrage? What a waste. What bias. What stupidity. What should we expect?

Goodbye
Goodbye and good riddance.

Oh sure he was great
If, like the author you gloss over attacking Iraq pre-emptively on faulty intelligence.

Putting loyalty, or whatever, above responibility in his stubborn support of Rumsfeld.

Not finishing the job in Afghanistan.

Katrina.

Amnesty for illegals.

The greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Foreign policy that even his own intelligence agencies agree helped turn AQ from a small collection of inter-connected cells to a worldwide franchise.

Yeah, if you leave all of that out the equation as this author does, Bush did a great job.

The Liberals are Restless
George Bush will be forever pilloried by the media as an oaf, a bumpkin, a dunce and worse. As this article demonstrates, it was the George Bush the public never knew that kept this nation safe.

It is the epitome of irony that the public persona of Barack Obama that so enthralls so many is the antithesis of George Bush. It was the unknown Bush that held our nation's security as his top priority. It is the unknown Obama who will forsake that security for public adoration. Oh, the audacity.

Maximilian
You are correct. George Bush did stand by his principles and the nation did cower.

As failed policy after failed policy, the nation had no choice but to cower in the card board box they were left after Cheney/Bush destroyed any integrity the US had.

W, we salute you. You are the King!

I'll go on record here
Mark my word, no life-in-being will ever have a President whose integrity matches George W. Bush. Our great President stood by his principles while the nation cowered.

B.O., on the other hand, will more than likely, give up Alaska as a Sudetenland peace offering to Vladimir Ras-Putin.

Thank you, Mr. President
I did not agree with all of your decisions, I especially thought you gave in to the Democrats too often, but I believe you did the best you coul

I only wish you had pardoned Ramos and Compeon years ago instead of communting their sentences at the last minute.

People who critize their actions should have to work one night in that "strip of hell" we call "the border".

stu, Yes Right Wing Policies Are to Blam
You post, "What right wing policies did Bush propose that failed the country?"

How about trickle down economics? How about deregulation? How about censoring scientific documents to support his incorrect stance on global warming? How about environmental destruction in national parks?

You also posted, "The fact that every single person is paying either the same or lower taxes than they were 4 years ago?"

Lower taxes? LOWER TAXES!? What about the freakin' national debt the idiot is leaving behind! He had a surplus from Clinton. Lower taxes.......meanwhile every state has had to raise fee's and property taxes because W is a moron. Lower taxes...? Ok, dude.

We didn't get a tax break. We got a lie and huge deficits that Obama is going to have to somehow tackle. It's going to take at least eight years to clean up the Cheney/Bush disaster.

Rowly...A Child Took His Place?
Dude, you have got to be kidding me.

You just got raped, the police are asking you if you'd like to turn the person responsible for the raping, and you reply, "no I love him. He is a Man"

The "Man" left office? If leaving our country in shambles is the signfication of a "Man", and you call the person trying to clean up the disaster left behind as a child, I think you need to seek help.

If anything, George Bush is to be pitied. He probably genuinly believes he did a "great" job. He believes this because he is fed the same crap and lies that Limbaugh and Hannity twist, distort, yell, and fabricate to anyone simple enough to believe them. The information fed to the simpleton known as W was most definately censored by the grand master himself, Dick Cheney, the greatest criminal to ever step foot in American politics and the Constitution.

The Forgotten Man
George W.Bush will leave office tomorrow, with a whimper, not a roar. He will not pardon dozens of criminals for payoffs. Nor will he try to take items belonging to the White House when he leaves. He commuted the Border Guards sentences, though months too late.

It is true many will love to see the last of him, because they have fallen in love with another person and longs for a divorce.

George Bush disappointed many of us,but no one can truthfully say he is a bad person. He did not dishonor the White House. He was legally elected and did not buy the office.

Years from now we will look back on the spectacle that is occuring today and tommorrow and wonder what happened to reason. We will also know that a 'Man' left office and a child took his place.

We are on the brink of the end of civilization as we have known it. You asked for it. Now deal with it!

Are you kidding me!
Respect for the office?
Torture, warrant-less wiretapping, the politicization of the justice department, extraordinary rendition.
How about some respect for the Constitution of the United States!
Lets give him a chance to defend those decisions.
No One Is Above The Law!

Goodbye and good riddance
Bush was a disaster for our country.

No jobs
Over 2,500,000 fewer Americans are employed today (than in January 2008) due to Bush's mindless dedication to a failed economic policy.

If you think that Bush's economic policy had anything to do with that statement, then you are the mindless one. Maybe you may want to comment on Frank and Dodd's oversight of Fannie and Freddie? I thought not.

Right wing policies to blame?
What right wing policies did Bush propose that failed the country?

The fact that every single person is paying either the same or lower taxes than they were 4 years ago?

The fact that the rich pay a higher percentage of the tax burden now, even though he lowered their rate?(lowest rate lowered by 33%, from 15% to 10% the highest rate lowered by 16%, from 39.6% to 33%)

The fact that tax revenues to the treasury increased from 1.8 trillion to 2.2 trillion between 2004 and 2007.

Please lay it out for us.

He may have been guilty of not being tough enough preventing the Democratic congress from things like allowing people on welfare to declare their welfare checks as income in order to buy a house. But these are not right wing ideas that bankrupted the country. These are left wing ideas.

Thank you, Mr. President
Thank you for ignoring the useful idiots of the Media and governing with your head , not the morning's opinion poll. If Nancy Pelosi tries to put you or any of your administration on trial, I will exercise my rights as a free American to defend the accused against all enemies, foreign and domestic: the Democratic party being such an enemy. I was proud to call you my president- marxist morons like Pelosi and Reid can go to Moscow; I hear Putin is killing opponents-I'm sure Nancy and Harry will feel welcome and take notes.
Because those on the Left despise you, I applaud you and thank you.

Betsy
Can I suggest decaf? There are no messiahs in government, just individuals looking out for their own interests, just like you and me. You just have to pick the one individual who thinks most like you.

As to profits? You need to get over it. America runs on capitalism. Capitalism is the reason you STILL have the highest standard of living i nthe world. Who was it that once said, "I want to go to America to see where the poor people are fat"

Bleeding Hearts for Bush?
Seems the label most thrown at the liberals also suits those Republicans that now feel sorry for Mr. Bush. The man is a lunatic, and needs the assistance of a mental health professional. He is a liar of the worst order, and thousands of lives have been lost because of it. Are you of the right wing delusional as well as those on the left with their now enthusiasm for the "second coming" Obama as their rescue. Wake up, America. They all work for the bankers, and the bankers want globalism and profit, no matter how many American lives are sacrificed in the process.

Better Off TeflonDon?
Are we not better off that terrorists have not struck America in almost 8 years? You're kidding right!? The mere fact that you have time to complain about the president rather then worrying about when the next bomb will explode should be proof enough that the federal governement, under President Bush, has meet its PRIMARY obligation..... keeping us safe! Why not just say thank you and move on?

Stu
As neither left or right, I disagree. There are governmental functions provided within our Constitution that are clearly their job - so long as I am paying one dime in any manner whatsoever to that government. Providing for the common defense is actually #1, so will be glad Mr. "open borders" Bush will be gone, but don't hold out hope anything will change with equally "open borders" Obama. And I guess if you had been a victim of this negligence, you would feel quite differently. So you shoot the Mexican stealing your car or identity, and the ACLU and left wingers feel sorry for the abuser, rather than the victim. This country is off it's rocker right now on this situation. You are either an American or a globalists - and the globalists stride both sides of the aisle. McCain, Bush and Obama being merely three.

Thank you Bush for...
falling asleep at the switch in August of 2001 and not lifting one finger to the alarm bells that were ringing. Oh, by the way, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Protecting This Country?
Protecting this country? Mr. "open borders" via la Mexico Bush? You've got to be kidding. Seven years after 9/11 and he gives VISA waivers to citizens of 34 countries in a little publicized ceremony in the Rose Garden. If there is another 9/11 attack, and Obama doesn't cure that situation, then it is the Bush/Obama transition presidency that cause it. Or actually anytime in the future. It is the globalists that put commerce and foreign appeasement before national security that are to blame - on both sides of the aisle.

orrection to you and whose army--
The drug smuggler that was wounded was carrying a large drug supply and was later arrested for trying to bring more in. The two fine border agents were trying to do the best for us here in the states. And no, I am glad that you would not have to think about hiring me, you see, I am very secure financially.
Perhaps you would like to have the drug smuggler and his like go free. Maybe you should work for the barry O., the prune reid, and san fran nan and their like. Do you like what is happening on our borders? We know how it is since we live in one of those sanctuary cities that should not be such. This is whay we are Hunter and Tancredo supporters along with the patriot Minute Men and the border patrol.

Thank You Mr. President
My well being as a person does not ride on whether or not Bill Clinton, George Bush or Barack Obama is serving as President.

This is a huge difference between the left and the right. That is why millions more democrats than republicans go freeze their bums off to attend these inaugurations. We are hard wired completely different. We don't depend upon a complete stranger to make us physically, emotionally and financially secure. That is my job.

Thankfully, President Bush did a great job of keeing us safe, which is his primary responsibility.

The job of the president is not to make one whole!

I'm just happy that I wake up every morning between Mexico and Canada.

Thank You
Thank you, Mr. President!
Since 9/11 I (we) have not been attacked. My family have been safe, and I've been able to go about my business in safety. Thank You

he did not do the right thing
the right thing was to enforce the immigration laws to begin with, from day 1, saving the 2 agents the encounter with the illegal. then he refused to pardon them. bush is a coward that cooperated with the democrats in the destruction of our country. the damage under bush was less that what we would have experienced if a real democrat had won in 00 and 04, but for the liberals, bush was a pretty good imitation of the real thing. the country voted for better, and should have gotten better. bush betrayed our country.

Farewell Mr President
Thank you for your upstanding service to this Nation in troubled times. I have often been Inspired by your steadfast resolve to protect the people at any cost and endure the often unfair slams on your charature.
God Bless Laura and yourself and I hope you have a peaceful transition to a more quiet life and maybe sleep in once or twice.
Bar-b-que and have fun lord knows you've earned it.
Humbly,
Edna Eagle

I am also thankful
I agree with all of you who have said that Bush did some things that were disappointing, but truly, he was not nearly as bad as so many of his critics think!

To those who answer the question that they are not better off...what did they do to improve their lot? I know I worked hard to get more education, and I did what I had to do in order to make more money. I am much better off than I was eight years ago! To those who look to the government for help, well, they will always be disappointed. The government is not there to give us a good life--that is for us to work toward.

I had grown so weary of Clinton's response to terrorism that I wanted to scream. I was worried that Bush would stare into the camera, tell NY that he shared their pain, and we would track down the perps and bring them to justice. I was beyond thrilled when I realized we had a president who was going to actually do something meaningful to stop terrorists. He did what he could to keep us safe, and all of his critics can sit in comfort and gripe about all of the things he did wrongly.

I will miss the class that Bush brought to the presidency. I have little hope that Obama will do the same. He married a witch who hated the country and felt no pride in it until her husband got the nomination--that says it all. A choice of a life-mate who is chronically hateful is not a good sign for us.

Teflon Don
Anyone who pays attention to the polls in regard to the Presidency is an idiot. How many people taking those polls are as informed as the people here or on any of the blogs? How slanted do you think those questions really are? This Country may be in crisis, but it had zero to do with Bush's economic policies and everything to do with the abuse of the lenders, etc. And you think the COW sprinting and spending more of my money and knocking back National Security by "talking" to killers is going to make you better off? Do you?
Then not only are you an idiot, you are blind. Perhaps you better get your rose-colored glasses out and put them on, because reality will scare you for sure.

Bush not all bad
I, too, would like to say "thank-you" to President Bush. The fact is, President Bush understood that the most important job of any leader is to protect the people he serves. His tenacity and commitment to protect us deserves a collective "thank-you" from all of us, irregardless of political persuasion. The record speaks for itself, no terrorist attacks on our homeland since 9/11/01. In Bush, we also had a President who believed that we should all keep more of our money and that we, not the government, know how best to use it. Yes, Bush approved of and signed much legislation that contained billions in spending, but he wanted us to keep our hard-earned money. He understood that more of our freedom is given with each dollar we give to the government. In Bush, we had a man who values life from the moment of conception. He ended taxpayer-funded abortions overseas and signed the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act. We should all be grateful and thankful for these things. Life is most important and must be upheld and protected.
I will miss President Bush and I hope he, his wife, and the rest of his family will be blessed the rest of their lives.

You and whose army
I think you will have to change your name soon to You and NO army as that is where this country is headed under Obambi.

He has already in the works of dismantling everything Bush did after 9/11 to keep this country safe. But people like you can't even acknowledge that on his last full day in office.

We as a country will be attacked under Obambi, mark my words. I just hope its in a city near YOU.

You sir, are a gullible idiot, also known as a "useful idiot".

My the trolls are en masse today!

Bush
There is much I didn't like about the Bush presidency, but he was the still the best choice when you consider Gore, Kerry, McCain, Obama, Clinton, and Biden. I'm still stunned that the border guards weren't pardoned. President Bush inherited some very difficult times - had he vetoed spending bills and McCain-Feingold and other jokes that became bills, he would have been an excellent President, but Bush and McCain set us up for the next four years and that I don't appreciate.

SVARA et al
"MO the 2 fine border agents should never have served a day in prison and should have been hailed as doing an excellent job while on duty."

SVARA's definition of "excellent job":

Shooting an unarmed man in the back and then covering it up.

"However, like him or not, he kept this country SAFE for over 7 years after 9/11 happened."

Kathy's definition of "successful presidency":

Doing one's job ALMOST the entire time.

Remind me not to hire either of you for anything in the future.

thanks president bush!
we will miss you being in the white house!

Bush commuted sentences of ...
Ramos and Compean!

Thank you President Bush.

Thank God he did the right thing.

I can at least respect Bush for one thing he did as President.

Thank you Mr. President
I will miss Bush being in the White House. His election in 2000 was a breath of fresh air after the stench left behind by the Clinton's.

Laura Bush is a very classy and elegant woman whom I have always had the utmost respect for. She brought honor back into the White House.

Bush made his share of mistakes, as all presidents do (are you with me Teflon?). However, like him or not, he kept this country SAFE for over 7 years after 9/11 happened.

I say Thank You to a great American President, George W. Bush.

May God help us during the next adminitration. Somehow, I have the distinct feeling that America's safety net has just been pulled usunder :(

No --
To the post that said that bush had pardoned our two border agents- Correction- he only commuted their sentences under pressure from right and left wing groups. IMO the 2 fine border agents should never have served a day in prison and should have been hailed as doing an excellent job while on duty. And another thing, if the white house had secured our borders right after 9-11 we would not have been overwhelmed by all these criminal illegals.

Thank you
Thank you President and Mrs. Bush. You brought integrity and honor back into the White House following 8 years of the Clintons. Bill the womanizer and narcissist made the oval office into a cheap hotel room. Hillary's claim to fame was an unbending support of abortion, Travelgate, and the "Great Right Wing Conspiracy."

8 years after FDR

After 8 years of FDR americans were not better off. The depression continued. Soup kitchens were everywhere. Long lines to get work. Low pay for those that could find work. Food was scarce. War was looming in Europe. Healthcare and educational opportunities were at a premium.

Historians view F.D.R. as a top notch President because he kept us safe. The failure of his domestic programs to end the depression and put people back to work is not a factor.

Add my Thanks
I have email the POTUS and VPOTUS my thanks. I'll have to do it again as the latest news is Bush has pardoned Compean and Ramos. THANK YOU GEORGE BUSH. You'll be missed.

Right on!
Thank you Mr. Benson for this excellent appraisal of President Bush.

I am way better off now than I was under Slick Willy Clinton's reign of corruption.

The basic question of the Bush Legacy
is "are you better off than you were 8 years ago?" The answer according to all the polls is a resounding 90% "NO".

W may have been an honest man trying to do his best given some circumstances that were beyond his control (not all though). However you want to slice or spin it the bottom line is that if 90% do not think they are better off then W's legacy is a failure.
